Abstract

In this study, we investigate the performance of the Metropolis-adjusted Langevin algorithm in a setting with constraints on the support of the target distribution. We provide a rigorous analysis of the resulting Markov chain, establishing its convergence and deriving an upper bound for its mixing time. Our results demonstrate that the Metropolis-adjusted Langevin algorithm is highly effective in handling this challenging situation: the mixing time bound we obtain is superior to the best known bounds for competing algorithms without an accept-reject step. Our numerical experiments support these theoretical findings, indicating that the Metropolis-adjusted Langevin algorithm shows promising performance when dealing with constraints on the support of the target distribution., Comment: We find some error in the proof of Theorem 2 and the associated result may not be correct

Abstract

Deep learning, particularly the generative model, has demonstrated tremendous potential to significantly speed up image reconstruction with reduced measurements recently. Rather than the existing generative models that often optimize the density priors, in this work, by taking advantage of the denoising score matching, homotopic gradients of generative density priors (HGGDP) are proposed for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reconstruction. More precisely, to tackle the low-dimensional manifold and low data density region issues in generative density prior, we estimate the target gradients in higher-dimensional space. We train a more powerful noise conditional score network by forming high-dimensional tensor as the network input at the training phase. More artificial noise is also injected in the embedding space. At the reconstruction stage, a homotopy method is employed to pursue the density prior, such as to boost the reconstruction performance. Experiment results imply the remarkable performance of HGGDP in terms of high reconstruction accuracy; only 10% of the k-space data can still generate images of high quality as effectively as standard MRI reconstruction with the fully sampled data.

9. Conformational dynamics of charged polymers interacting with charged nanoparticles

Abstract

The transition from globular to elongated states of biopolymers in shear flow occurs at a distinct critical shear rate, $\dot{\gamma }^{*}$. The magnitude of $\dot{\gamma }^{*}$ depends on the internal potential and the polymer length. For example, the critical shear is much larger for von Willebrand Factor (vWF) compared to DNA. Furthermore, it is shown through computational analysis of vWF (model-vWF) that $\dot{\gamma }^{*}\sim N^{1/3}$, where N is the number of dimeric units in the vWF. In this study, we show that in the presence of charged nanoparticles (CNP) and polymer, the critical shear rate scales differently depending on the polymer length and the charge-strength of the CNP. It is shown that CNP alter the conformational dynamics of polymers under shear flow when the polymer beads have an opposite charge. The introduction of CNP shifts the critical shear rate and alters the scaling. Furthermore, it is shown that the critical zeta potential of CNP, $\zeta^{*}$, scales linearly with shear rate, and scales cubically with ratio $\beta$ between final CNP-polymer composite size and original polymer size, that is $\zeta^{*}\sim \dot{\gamma }\beta ^{-3}$.

Abstract

A hybrid computational method coupling the lattice-Boltzmann (LB) method and a Langevin-dynamics (LD) method is developed to simulate nanoscale particle and polymer (NPP) suspensions in the presence of both thermal fluctuation and long-range many-body hydrodynamic interactions (HI). Brownian motion of the NPP is explicitly captured by a stochastic forcing term in the LD method. The LD method is two-way coupled to the non-fluctuating LB fluid through a discrete LB forcing source distribution to capture the long-range HI. To ensure intrinsically linear scalability with respect to the number of particles, an Eulerian-host algorithm for short-distance particle neighbor search and interaction is developed and embedded to LB-LD framework. The validity and accuracy of the LB-LD approach are demonstrated through several sample problems. The simulation results show good agreements with theory and experiment. Abstract

The biotransport of the intravascular nanoparticle (NP) is influenced by both the complex cellular flow environment and the NP characteristics. Being able to computationally simulate such intricate transport phenomenon with high efficiency is of far-reaching significance to the development of nanotherapeutics, yet challenging due to large length-scale discrepancies between NP and red blood cell (RBC) as well as the complexity of NP dynamics. Recently, a lattice-Boltzmann (LB) based multiscale simulation method has been developed to capture both NP scale and cellular level transport phenomenon at high computational efficiency. The basic components of this method include the LB treatment for the fluid phase, a spectrin-link method for RBCs, and a Langevin dynamics (LD) approach to capturing the motion of the suspended NPs. Comprehensive two-way coupling schemes are established to capture accurate interactions between each component. The accuracy and robustness of the LB-LD coupling method are demonstrated through the relaxation of a single NP with initial momentum and self-diffusion of NPs. This approach is then applied to study the migration of NPs in a capillary vessel under physiological conditions. It is shown that Brownian motion is most significant for the NP distribution in capillary vessels. For 1~100 nm particles, the Brownian diffusion is the dominant radial diffusive mechanism compared to the RBC-enhanced diffusion. Abstract

In recent years, cerium dioxide (CeO2) has attracted considerable attention owing to its remarkable performance in various applications, including photocatalysis, fuel cells, and catalysis. This study explores the effect of nickel (Ni) doping on the structural, thermal, and chemical properties of CeO2 nanorods, particularly focusing on oxygen vacancy-related phenomena. Utilizing X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), alterations in crystal structure and peak shifts were observed, indicating successful Ni doping and the formation of Ni2O3 at higher doping levels, likely due to non-equilibrium reactions. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed changes in oxygen release mechanisms, with increasing Ni doping resulting in the release of lattice oxygen at lower temperatures. Raman spectroscopy corroborated these findings by identifying characteristic peaks associated with oxygen vacancies, facilitating the assessment of Ni doping levels. Ni-doped CeO2 can catalyze the ultrasonic degradation of methylene blue, which has good application prospects for catalytic ultrasonic degradation of organic pollutants. Overall, this study underscores the substantial impact of Ni doping on CeO2 nanorods, shedding light on tailored catalytic applications through the modulation of oxygen vacancies while preserving the nanorod morphology. Abstract

The degradations of electrical parameters for depletion mode GaN devices in the cascode configuration under repetitive hard-switching stress are investigated in detail. With the help of TCAD simulations and comprehensive experimental analysis, two different mechanisms behind the degradations are demonstrated. Under a relatively low Vds hard-switching condition, hot electron injection is proved to be the only influence factor, which results in the increase of Rdson under low gate bias voltage. Furthermore, under the low Vds switching condition, influence of different stages on the degradation trend of the device is verified. It is found that the turn-on procedure has a greater degradation risk due to higher energy consumption. However, when Vds is high during hard-switching, the surface trapping effect is triggered due to high electric field at the end of gate field plate, and finally results in the device degradation trend. It results in the increase of the Rdson under high gate bias condition. Therefore, considering the stability and safety of power systems which adopt cascode devices as switches, shorter turn-on time or a soft-switching operation condition should be considered in the design.

Abstract

In this letter, comprehensive static and dynamic electrical parameter degradations of p-GaN gate high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) under repetitive short-circuit (SC) stresses are presented. Meanwhile, the mechanisms behind those degradations are first distinguished. The results indicate that both the gate region and the access region are damaged by the SC stresses, dominating the shifts of electrical parameters. Moreover, a method by modeling the output capacitance is proposed to characterize damages in access region. Finally, the switching characteristics after the stresses are investigated, it is found that the switching speed benefits from the increase in the gate leakage current. Considering the aging of p-GaN HEMT under long-term operation conditions, all the damages brought by repetitive SC stresses should be eliminated to prevent the failure of p-GaN gate and the increase in conduction loss.

Abstract

The lightning surge robustness of a light-emitting diode (LED) driver based on a flyback converter has been experimentally investigated. It is demonstrated that the surge failure in the driver results from the burnout of the super-junction vertical double-diffused MOS (SJ-VDMOS). The high residual surge voltage causes the SJ-VDMOS to go into breakdown, resulting in a large number of impact ionizations. It is also shown that the impact ionization centers in the device are enlarged and shifted toward the bottom of trench gate with the increased surge stress. As a result, the generated holes preferentially flow along the p-body region near trench gate, finally triggering the parasitic BJTs and destroying the device. Next, a low-cost protection scheme that includes both a first-stage discharge network and a novel SJ-VDMOS with higher surge robustness is proposed to improve the lightning surge capability of the LED driver, increasing the robustness by more than a factor of 10.

35. New Failure Mechanism Induced by Current Limit for Superjunction MOSFET Under Single-Pulse UIS Stress

Abstract

New failure mechanism induced by current limits has been investigated for the superjunction MOSFET (SJ-MOSFET) under single-pulse unclamped inductive switching (UIS) test stress. It is found that the local charge imbalance ( ${Q}_{{n}} > {Q}_{{p}}$ ) at the chip corner produces a hotspot during the UIS test. The failure of the device induced by the hotspot depends on the magnitude of the avalanche current. For a low avalanche current, the avalanche current is redistributed from the local charge imbalance region to the charge balance region due to the lattice temperature increasing, resulting in the local heating toward the full-scale heating. However, for a high avalanche current, the negative differential resistance (NDR) effect plays a dominant role in the local charge imbalance region, decreasing the dynamic breakdown voltage (BV) sharply. Therefore, the hotspot is locked at the charge imbalance region; then, the device is destroyed in a short time. Finally, an SJ-MOSFET with more p-type charges at the chip corner is produced to improve the avalanche capability relating to the current limit, also verifying the mechanism analysis.

36. Exosomes with overexpressed miR 147a suppress angiogenesis and infammatory injury in an experimental model of atopic dermatitis.

Abstract

Atopic dermatitis is defined as an intensely systemic inflammation among skin diseases. Exosomes derived from adipose-derived stem cells may be a novel cell-free therapeutic strategy for atopic dermatitis treatment. This study aims to elucidate the possible underlying mechanism of adipose-derived stem cells-exosomes harboring microRNA-147a in atopic dermatitis pathogenesis. BALB/c mice treated with Dermatophagoides farinae extract/2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene were defined as a mouse model of atopic dermatitis, either with inflamed HaCaT cells and HUVECs exposed with TNF-α/IFN-γ stimulation were applied for a cell model of atopic dermatitis. The concentrations of IL-1β and TNF-α in the supernatants were examined by ELISA. Cell viability and migration were assessed by MTT and Transwell assay. The apoptosis was examined using flow cytometry and TUNEL staining. The tube formation assay was employed to analyzed angiogenesis. The molecular regulations among miR-147a, MEF2A, TSLP and VEGFA were confirmed using luciferase reporter assay, either with ChIP. microRNA-147a was markedly downregulated in the serum and skin samples of atopic dermatitis mice, of which overexpression remarkably promoted HaCaT cell proliferation, meanwhile inhibiting inflammatory response and cell apoptosis. microRNA-147a in adipose-derived stem cells was subsequently overexpressed, and exosomes (Exos-miR-147a mimics) were collected. Functionally, exos-microRNA-147a mimics attenuated TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced HaCaT cell inflammatory response and apoptosis, and suppressed HUVECs angiogenesis. Encouraging, molecular interaction experiments revealed that exosomal microRNA-147a suppressed TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced HUVECs angiogenesis by targeting VEGFA, and exosomal microRNA-147a repressed HaCaT cells inflammatory injury through the MEF2A-TSLP axis. Mechanistically, exosomal microRNA-147a repressed pathological angiogenesis and inflammatory injury during atopic dermatitis progression by targeting VEGFA and MEF2A-TSLP axis. microRNA-147a-overexpressing adipose-derived stem cells-derived exosomes suppressed pathological angiogenesis and inflammatory injury in atopic dermatitis by targeting VEGFA and MEF2A-TSLP axis. Abstract

An anomalous breakdown voltage (BV) walk-in phenomenon of the trench-gate p-type vertical double-diffused metal–oxide–semiconductor (VDMOS) after single avalanche stress has been experimentally investigated. It is found that the BV of the VDMOS is decreased after the single avalanche stress, while other electrical parameters remain unchanged. T-CAD simulations and emission microscope (EMMI) analysis have been carried out. As a result, the shift of the breakdown point of the VDMOS, which results in the hot hole injection and trapping at the termination region, should be responsible for the BV degradation. A novel device structure with different trench depths in the termination region for the trench-gate p-type VDMOS is proposed to suppress the BV walk-in phenomenon.

49. Efficient activation of peroxymonosulfate by 3D hollow petal‐like spherical NiCo2O4 nanomaterials for the decomposition of phenol solution: performance and mechanism.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Phenolic pollutant contamination is a serious problem. The advanced oxidation process based on sulfate radicals (SR‐AOPs) is an efficient technology for the degradation of phenolic contaminants in the aquatic environment. Bimetallic nanomaterials have attracted much attention because of their excellent catalytic performance in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Herein, 3D mesoporous NiCo2O4 hollow petal spheres with a specific surface area of 252.35 m2 g−1 were successfully prepared. RESULTS: In the NiCo2O4/PMS system, phenol (50 mg L−1) was absolutely removed within 25 min with a degradation rate constant (k) of 0.19651 min−1, which is 6.2 times higher than that of the Co3O4/PMS system. The excellent catalytic activity of NiCo2O4 is attributed to the larger amount of redox cycles of Co3+/Co2+ and Ni3+/Ni2+ as well as its large specific surface area and multi‐step pore channel structure. Moreover, the related influencing factors were systematically researched in the NiCo2O4/PMS system, including reaction temperature, solution pH, initial concentration, catalyst and PMS dose, as well as matrix species (HCO3−, Cl−, NO3−, and humic acid). The recycling tests revealed the outstanding chemical stability of NiCo2O4. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and quenching experiments verify that sulfate radical (SO4• −) acts as the leading role for phenol decomposition. The possible degradation path was proposed based on the several major degradation intermediates that were detected by Gas Chromatography‐Mass Spectrometer (GC–MS). CONCLUSION: This research provides a facile and mild method for the fabrication of promising 3D heterogeneous catalysts for PMS activation and provides a green and promising technology for effective contaminant control in modern wastewater remediation. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI). CeO2-based nanomaterials have received tremendous attention due to their variety of applications. This paper is focused on the recent advances in facet-controlled CeO2-based nanomaterials by the hydrothermal method. CeO2-based nanomaterials with controllable size and exposed facets can be prepared by adjusting the reaction parameters. Moreover, doping and loading metals can improve the oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of CeO2 and its catalytic activity. Various research studies on catalytic applications such as CO oxidation, water–gas shift reaction (WGSR), decomposition of hydrocarbons, and photocatalytic reaction have been carried out to exhibit the high potential of facet-controlled CeO2 nanomaterials.
