6. Influence of heat treatments on the tensile properties and thermal expansion behavior of Fe-Ni wire

Abstract

Although Fe-Ni wires have numerous potential applications, the effect of heat treatments on the microstructures and properties of Fe-Ni wires is currently unclear. In this study, different high-temperature annealing and low-temperature aging treatments (i.e., ① annealing at 950℃ for 3 h+quenching, ② annealing at 950℃ for 3 h+quenching+aging at 500℃ for 2 h, and ③ aging at 500℃ for 2 h) were applied to cold-drawn Fe-36.24% Ni alloy wires to comparatively investigate their influences on the microstructural evolution, tensile strength, and thermal expansion coefficient, with the aid of microstructural characterization methods, such as X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, as well as property measurements, such as room-temperature tensile testing and thermal expansion coefficient. The experimental results clearly show that the as-drawn Fe-Ni wire, although having a high tensile strength, exhibits an unfavorable high thermal expansion coefficient. The Fe-Ni wires annealed at 950℃ (wires subjected to ① and ②) have a relatively low thermal expansion coefficient but exhibit insufficient strength. In comparison, the wire aged at 500℃ (wire subjected to ③) shows a high strength (1189 MPa) and a low thermal expansion coefficient (0.2×10-6℃-1) at the same time. The relative strengthening mechanisms and factors affecting the thermal expansion coefficient are discussed and analyzed in terms of the microstructures. Grain boundary strengthening and dislocation hardening are observed to be the dominant strengthening mechanisms of the Fe-Ni wires, and the solute atom-dislocation interaction is mainly responsible for the evolution of the thermal expansion coefficient. The present work clearly demonstrates that suitable heat treatments are important for the optimization of the strength/thermal expansion coefficient of Fe-Ni alloy wires, which will be helpful for material design and technology tailoring of Fe-Ni wires to develop a new alloy with enhanced performance.

Abstract

Two new diterpenoids, penicichrysogene A (1) and penicichrysogene B (2), were isolated from the solid substrate fermentation cultures of Penicillium chrysogenum MT-12, an endophytic fungus isolated from the medicinal plant of Huperzia serrata. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic and spectrometric data (1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, and HRESIMS). The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were assigned on the basis of experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. Compound 1 exhibited inhibitory activity on ATP release of thrombin-activated platelets with IC50 = 42.7 ± 3.5 μM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The feature description of image and the index mechanism of the feature are the keys to realize the content-based image retrieval, aiming at the problem of massive image data and “dimension curse”, this paper proposes the BOF-based image retrieval improved algorithm, and combines with VLAD and soft assignment it generates the soft assignment local aggregation descriptor (SA-VLAD) which has a better ability to resist the dimension reduction and a higher recognition rate. When the index mechanism IVFADC is at query time, to ensure the recall ratio and precision rate of the result, the candidates inverted index chain are increased, which leads to the problems of distance calculation and the query time’s increasing. For this point, in the index phase, the scattered distribution is carried out aiming at the database vector, which reduces the burden of distance calculation, and improves the quality of the query results at the same time. The experimental results show that the algorithm in this paper obtains a good effect in the content-based massive image database retrieval.

Abstract

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have been successful in discovering SNP trait associations for many quantitative traits and common diseases. Typically, the effect sizes of SNP alleles are very small and this requires large genome-wide association meta-analyses (GWAMAs) to maximize statistical power. A trend towards ever-larger GWAMA is likely to continue, yet dealing with summary statistics from hundreds of cohorts increases logistical and quality control problems, including unknown sample overlap, and these can lead to both false positive and false negative findings. In this study, we propose four metrics and visualization tools for GWAMA, using summary statistics from cohort-level GWASs. We propose methods to examine the concordance between demographic information, and summary statistics and methods to investigate sample overlap. (I) We use the population genetics Fst statistic to verify the genetic origin of each cohort and their geographic location, and demonstrate using GWAMA data from the GIANT Consortium that geographic locations of cohorts can be recovered and outlier cohorts can be detected. (II) We conduct principal component analysis based on reported allele frequencies, and are able to recover the ancestral information for each cohort. (III) We propose a new statistic that uses the reported allelic effect sizes and their standard errors to identify significant sample overlap or heterogeneity between pairs of cohorts. (IV) To quantify unknown sample overlap across all pairs of cohorts, we propose a method that uses randomly generated genetic predictors that does not require the sharing of individual-level genotype data and does not breach individual privacy.

Abstract

Lead-free piezoelectric xLiNbO3–(1-x)(K0.52Na0.58)NbO3 (LKNN) (x=0, 0.04, 0.06, and 0.08) thin films on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si(100) substrates were prepared by a sol-gel method. The effects of the Li substitution content on the crystal structure, microstructure, and electrical properties of LKNN films were investigated. The Li substitution leads to a remarkable improvement in the piezoelectric properties of the films. The LKNN film with an optimized Li substitution of x=0.06 showed a high local effective piezoelectric coefficient d33* of 192 pm/V, which is comparable to the piezoelectric performance of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 films. An enhanced ferroelectricity was also obtained in the x=0.06 LKNN film, with a remnant polarization of 9.7 μC/cm2 and a coercive field of 36.5 kV/cm. Abstract

Tetragonal Nb-doped Pb(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 (PNZT) films with a lead oxide seeding layer were deposited on the Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si(100) substrates by sol-gel processing. The as-grown PNZT films with thicknesses ranging from about 0.08 to 0.78 μm show highly a-axis preferential orientation, and their ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties improved with increasing film thickness. Due to the combined effects of Nb doping and a-axis texturing as well as reduced substrate constraint, a high d33 constant up to 196 pm/V was obtained for PNZT film at 0.78 μm in addition to a large remnant polarization of 69 μC/cm2. This well a-axis-oriented PNZT films on platinized Si with a high piezoresponse are suitable for the fabrication of microelectromechanical devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

44. Dimeric furanocoumarins from the roots of Angelica dahurica

Abstract

Three new dimeric furanocoumarins, dahuribiethrins H–J (1–3), and a new ester coumarin, dahurinol A (4), were isolated from the roots of Angelica dahurica. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic data including UV, IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR. Compounds 2 and 3 exhibited inhibition of nitric oxide production in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells with IC50 values of 8.7 ± 0.6 and 27.3 ± 0.9 μM, respectively.
