Prior to this study, no species of Pseudophanias Raffray had been reported from Nanling, a vast biodiversity conservation area that spans five provinces in southern China. In this paper, three new species of the genus are described: Pseudophanias furcilobus sp. nov. (Guizhou, Guangxi), P. leigong sp. nov. (Guizhou), and P. mulun sp. nov. (Guangxi), suggesting that additional study on the diversity of this group in the area is required. The ant-loving beetle genus Songius Yin & Li, 2010 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae: Batrisini) is rarely collected due to a cryptic myrmecophilous lifestyle, and its diversity remains insufficiently explored. Here we describe two new sympatrically distributed species from Mount Fanjing, Guizhou Province, Southwest China. Songius brevisetus sp. nov. is characterized by the relatively parallel-sided body with a densely setose integument, and different forms of the spines/projections of the legs and the aedeagus. Songius hubenqii sp. nov. differs in the shiny, almost asetose body segments and antennomeres 1-6, the mesofemora lacking tubercles and bearing long bristles on the ventral margins, and a different form of the aedeagus. A re-examination of the types and additional material supported the conclusion that S. hlavaci Zhao, Yin & Li, 2010 is a widely distributed species in eastern, central and southwestern China, leading to the placement of S. pseudohlavaci Yin & Li 2015, syn. nov. from Hunan as its junior synonym; and the species is newly recorded from Fujian and Chongqing. Physomerinus jiulongensis sp. nov. is described from a series of overwintering individuals collected in decomposing wood at Jiulong National Wetland Park, East China. The new species is characterized and separated from related congeners by the unique form of the sexually dimorphic maxillary palpi, greatly swollen male metafemora, as well as by the shape of the genitalia of both sexes. A highly distinctive genus of pselaphine tribe Batrisini, Feabatrus gen. nov., is described based on Leonardo Fea's historical collection housed in the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale "G. Doria" di Genova, Italy. The genus includes two new species from Myanmar, F. myanmarensis sp. nov. and F. leonardoi sp. nov. Feabatrus gen. nov. is characterized and can be separated from related genera by large-sized body with long, suberect setae on the dorsal surface and antennae, pronotum with large marginal, discal and antebasal spines, elytra with a smooth disc and shallow discal striae, inner two basal foveae close, and lacking subhumeral fovea, distinct constriction between the elytra and the abdomen, and the female possessing an asymmetric genital complex as well as a fl at, sub-trapezoidal tergite 5 (VIII) that has a small nodule in the middle of the posterior margin. The genus Pseudophanias Raffray includes 19 species distributed in the Oriental Region. Here, the first species from continental China, P. tianmuensis Yin & Zhao sp. nov., is described and illustrated from West Tianmu Mountain. This species can be readily separated from all congeners by the coarse vestiture, along with its male features. The genus Trisiniotus Jeannel of the pselaphine tribe Batrisini comprises two species distributed in North India and southern Myanmar. Here, a third species, T. taoismus Feng & Yin sp. nov., is described from Mao-shan, Jiangsu Province, East China. The diversity of the Pselaphodes complex of genera (Pselaphinae: Tyrini) is insufficiently documented in Southeast Asia. The monospecific clavigerite genus Archiclaviger Heller, 1936 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), previously only known from Java, is reported to occur in China. A new species, A. gaofani sp. nov., was collected in nests of Nylanderia Emery, 1906 ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Jiangsu Province, and is described here. The new species can be separated from A. overbecki Heller, 1936 by different proportions of the antennomeres, and much sparser setae at the apex of the elytra and base of the abdomen. Three cavernicolous species of the ant-loving beetle subfamily Pselaphinae are described based on the material collected in the dark zone of limestone caves in southwestern China. Batraxis liyunchuni sp. nov. and Nipponobythus alienoceps sp. nov. from Guizhou are the fi rst and third cave-dwelling species of the ir respective genus, but they do not exhibit particular troglomorphy compared to epigean congeners. Zopherobatrus lusciosus sp. nov. from Chongqing, showing typical morphological adaptation to hypogeal lifestyle, is the second known representative of this obligate cavernicolous genus. A new fossil genus and species of the subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), †Cretobrachygluta laurasiensis gen. et sp. nov., is described based on an exquisitely preserved specimen in mid-Cretaceous amber from northern Myanmar. The new genus possesses a series of characters diagnostic of the extant Brachyglutini: Brachyglutina (supertribe Goniaceritae), but it also exhibits several plesiomorphic traits that suggest a basal position within the tribe. The discovery of the first and oldest brachyglutine beetle in Burmese amber considerably improves our understanding of the early morphological evolution of Pselaphinae during the Mesozoic Era. A new species of Arthromelodes Jeannel, A. choui sp. n., is described from northern Taitung, Taiwan, representing the first record of the genus in China. A new genus and species of the subfamily Pselaphinae, Lisubatrus dongzhiweii gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Gaoligong Mountains, southwestern China. Lisubatrus is assigned to the tribe Batrisini, subtribe Batrisina, and placed in a group of genera related to Dendrolasiophilus Nomura, 2010. Members of this group share the characteristic cephalic setose tufts, and have the aedeagus with a large basal capsule, and a well-developed dorsal lobe. The monotypic genus Buobellenden Yin & Nomura, 2009 is placed as a junior synonym of Bellenden Chandler, 2001. This act results in Bellenden jingyuanensis (Yin & Nomura), comb. n. (from Buobellenden). A new species, Bellenden siguniang Yin & Jang, sp. n., collected from the alpine area in Sichuan, SW China, is described, illustrated, and distinguished from all congeners. The genus Acetalius Sharp currently contains two species from Japan. In this paper, a third species, A. grandis Yin & Li, sp. n., is described from eastern China. A new distinctive species of the rare Oriental goniacerine genus Awas Löbl, A. gigas sp. n., is described and illustrated, based on three males and fourteen females taken at the Daoyao Shan Natural Reserve in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi. Continuing surveys on the pselaphine fauna in China have revealed four undescribed species of the genus Batrisodes: Batrisodes angustelytratus sp. n. (with Pachycondyla ant) and B. longwangshanus sp. n. from Zhejiang, B. bamian sp. n. (with Pseudolasius ant) from Hunan, and B. songxiaobini sp. n. (with Formica ant) from Yunnan. The genus Batrisodellus is placed as a junior synonym of Batrisodes, syn. n.; this taxonomic act results in eight new combinations: Batrisodes cerberus, B. coprea, B. cristatus, B. fengtingae, B. laticollis, B. longulus, B. palpalis, and B. punctipennis. The Tribasodites bedosae Yin & Li, 2011 species-group is designated to accommodate the cavernicolous species placed in the genus Tribasodites Jeannel, 1960. This group includes three previously described species from the Chinese province of Guangxi, Tribasodites bedosae Yin & Li, 2011, T. deharvengi Yin & Li, 2011, and T. tiani Yin & Li, 2011, and ten new species discovered in China and Thailand: T. hubeiensis sp. nov. from Hubei, central China, T. abnormalis sp. nov., T. cehengensis sp. nov., T. liboensis sp. nov., T. setosiventris sp. nov., and T. xingyiensis sp. nov. from Guizhou, southwestern China, T. bama sp. nov., T. kawadai sp. nov., T. uenoi sp. nov. from Guangxi, southwestern China, and T. thailandicus sp. nov. from Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The new species are described, and the male habitus and important diagnostic features are illustrated. A new clavigerine pselaphine, Diartiger zhejiangensis Yin & Li, sp. n., from the Fengyangshan - Baishanzu Nature Reserve, southern Zhejiang, is described, illustrated, and compared with congeners. Tangius indicus sp. n. (Batrisitae: Batrisini) is described and illustrated from the Indian States of Meghalaya (Khasi Hills, type locality) and West Bengal (Darjeeling). Specimens of the new species are similar to those of the recently described T. glabellus Yin & Li from Tibet, Southwest China, and can be separated only by minor differences of the male features. A new genus and species, Pengzhongiella daicongchaoi, of the subtribe Batrisina (Batrisitae: Batrisini) is described from the Gaoligong Mountains, Yunnan, Southwest China. Adults were collected in a colony of Odontomachus monticola, and presented reduction of certain external characters and elongate appendages relating to myrmecophily. Description and illustrations of the habitus and major diagnostic features of the new taxon are provided; a brief discussion of its taxonomic placement is included. New data on the Pselaphodes complex of genera (Pselaphitae: Tyrini) from China is presented. The generic limits of Labomimus Sharp and Pselaphodes Westwood are discussed and expanded. This paper is the first of a series that deals with Dr. Michael Schülke's collection of Pselaphinae from China. The tyrine genera Labomimus Sharp, Linan Hlavác and Pselaphodes Westwood are chosen for the first part. The genus Sinotrisus Yin & Li, comprising four species, is redefined and revised. Members of Sinotrisus are often found with ants of the subfamily Formicinae, or in humid forest habitats. A total of three Chinese species of the genus Intestinarius Kurbatov, 2007 are recognized, among which, two new species are described: I. guangdongensis sp. n. from Guangdong and I. longiceps sp. n. from Guizhou. The Oriental pselaphine genus Horniella Raffray, 1905 currently contains 29 species. In this paper, six new species are described: H. nantouensis Zhang, Hu & Yin, sp. nov. and H. taiwanensis Zhang, Hu & Yin, sp. nov. from Taiwan, China; H. bifurca Zhang & Yin, sp. nov. and H. haucki Zhang & Yin, sp. nov. from Thailand; H. khasiensis Zhang & Yin, sp. nov. from northern India; and H. sabahensis Zhang & Yin, sp. nov. from eastern Malaysia. The genus Pseudophanias Raffray, 1890 is discovered in Japan and Taiwan Island for the first time, with three new species: P. yaimensis Inoue, Nomura & Yin, sp. nov., P. nakanoi Inoue, Nomura & Yin, sp. nov., and P. excavatus Inoue, Nomura & Yin, sp. nov. It is the fifth tmesiphorine genus known from Japan and the first from Taiwan. A new Chinese species of the genus Linan Hlaváč, 2003, L. qiniangmontis sp. nov., is described based on two male and three female specimens from sifted leaf litter samples at Qiniang Mountain, Shenzhen City, Guangdong. Eleven new species of the ant-loving beetle genus Pselaphodes Westwood, 1870 (Pselaphinae: Tyrini) are described from China: P. aduncus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. anjiensis sp. nov. (Zhejiang), P. antennarius sp. nov. (Guizhou), P. baoxingensis sp. nov. (Sichuan), P. daweishanus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. elongatus sp. nov. (Yunnan), P. maolanensis sp. nov. (Guizhou), P. paraculeus sp. nov. (Guangxi, Guizhou), P. posticus sp. nov. (Jiangxi), P. prominulus sp. nov. (Jiangxi, Guangxi), and P. songxiaobini sp. nov. (Xizang). Pselaphodes spinosus Champion, 1925, originally known from northern India, is newly recorded from China (Xizang). Male habitus and major diagnostic characters of all treated species are illustrated.
