A dissimilaridade genética estimada por meio de marcadores moleculares, quando acompanhada de informações fenotípicas, é importante para a seleção de genótipos para o melhoramento e o mapeamento genético. Desta forma, os objetivos deste estudo foram: i) estimar a dissimilaridade genética entre 30 linhagens de milho contrastantes para a tolerância ao encharcamento; ii) selecionar genitores para mapeamento e melhoramento genético; iii) comparar diferentes métodos de visualização gráfica das distâncias. Foram utilizados 21 iniciadores de RAPD. A dissimilaridade genética foi estimada por meio do complemento do coeficiente de similaridade de Dice, posteriormente foi construído um dendrograma pelo método de agrupamento da distância média e calculado o coeficiente de correlação cofenética entre a matriz de dissimilaridade e o dendrograma gerado. O complemento da matriz de similaridade foi submetido também à análise de componentes principais e de escala multidimensional. Para ambas as análises, foi testada a eficiência das projeções, por meio da correlação entre as distâncias originais e as representadas nos gráficos. As técnicas de agrupamento não revelaram um bom ajuste entre as distâncias apresentadas graficamente e a matriz original de distâncias, com correlações de 0,70, 0,53 e 0,75 para o dendrograma, componentes principais e análise de escala multidimensional, respectivamente. Dentre as técnicas de agrupamento empregadas, a que atendeu de forma mais precisa aos objetivos do trabalho foi a análise multidimensional, uma vez que esta, além de apresentar a maior correlação com a matriz original de distâncias, preservou as distâncias entre todos os pares de genótipos. Além disso, esta técnica é a mais indicada quando o objetivo do trabalho é a definição de cruzamentos, pois ela permite uma observação mais fácil das distâncias entre todos os pares de genótipos.

A baixa taxa de regeneração in vitro de alguns cultivares de arroz da subespécie indica limita a utilização de técnicas de cultura de anteras como ferramenta para o desenvolvimento de novos cultivares. A identificação de regiões genômicas associadas à formação de calos e regeneração de plantas, a partir do cultivo de anteras, poderá permitir a transferência do caráter por seleção assistida. Duas populações de retrocruzamento foram utilizadas para o mapeamento genético e estudo destes caracteres, sendo Taipei 309// BRS 7 "Taim"/Taipei 309 (53 genótipos) e BRS 7 "Taim"// BRS 7 "Taim"/Taipei 309 (74 genótipos). Duzentas anteras imaturas de cada genótipo utilizado no estudo foram inoculadas em meio NL líquido e, após 40 dias, os calos formados foram transferidos para o meio MS sólido para regeneração de plantas. Todas as plantas doadoras de anteras foram usadas na extração de DNA genômico e sete primers RAPD foram utilizados na geração de marcadores para a construção dos mapas de ligação dos retrocruzamentos estudados. A taxa de formação de calos variou de 2,27 a 3,36% e a taxa de regeneração de plantas 1,38 a 1,82%, não se diferenciando significativamente. Seis grupos de ligação foram obtidos, três em cada população. Um QTL com LOD 3,10 foi detectado para o caráter formação de calos na população Taipei 309 // BRS 7 "Taim" / Taipei 309. Nenhum QTL foi detectado para a característica regeneração de plantas.

In order to evaluate the validity of self-reported weight for use in obesity prevalence surveys, self-reported weight was compared to measured weight for 659 adults living in the Porto Alegre county, RS Brazil in 1986-87, both weights being obtained by a technician in the individual's home on the same visit. The mean difference between self-reported and measured weight was small (-0.06 +/- 3.16 kg; mean +/- standard deviation), and the correlation between reported and measured weight was high (r=0.97). Sixty-two percent of participants reported their weight with an error of < 2 kg, 87% with an error of < 4 kg, and 95% with an error of < 6 kg. Underweight individuals overestimated their weight, while obese individuals underestimated theirs (p 30) by reported weight was 10%, by measured weight 11%. Thus, the validity of reported weight is acceptable for surveys of the prevalence of ponderosity in similar settings.

Bovine genital campylobacteriosis (BGC) and bovine trichomonosis (BT) are sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) that affect bovine breeding herds, decreasing their reproductive efficiency. The objective of this work was to estimate the prevalence of these diseases and their temporal-spatial distribution in the province of Formosa, Argentina. The cross-sectional study conducted between 2018 and 2021 included a total of 15,571 bulls, inter-herd prevalence being 29.62% and 17.23% for BGC and BT, respectively. The prevalence of positive animals was 2.05% for BGC and 0.43% for BT. The temporal-spatial analysis of BGC showed two distinct spatial groupings, one group had a low risk of contracting the disease (RR = 0.13; p < 0.001; 2018-2021) while the other group had a high risk (RR = 2.84; p < 0.001; 2020-2021). BT had a high-risk group for the disease (RR = 35.24; p < 0.001; 2019). This study shows that STDs are endemic in the region, providing updated and valuable information as a tool for the health management of these diseases., (Copyright © 2023. There is an unprecedented opportunity to move advanced practice nurses (APNs) into primary care settings at a steady rate over the next 5 to 8 years. In addition, the opportunity for nurse-owned or nurse-led practices has never been greater. However, many APNs currently work in a structured environment where the employer focuses on the business aspects of the practice and the APN focuses primarily on clinical care. Often APNs are unaware of the entrepreneurial contribution they make to the practice. A Needs Assessment Survey was developed to better understand business and practice management knowledge and skills of APNs in New Jersey. The survey included 14 categories for competency development. Twelve of the 14 categories showed that APNs were at a novice or an advanced beginner level. APNs need to demonstrate their value and take a lead to help solve primary care access issues. This can only be accomplished if APNs are willing to seize the opportunity and overcome barriers and knowledge gaps through both formal and informal education to step out of their traditional positions into more independent roles.

Ongoing challenges caused by increased complexity of care, changing patient demographics, and shifting health care delivery systems are necessitating a transformation of advanced practice. The practice doctorate has the potential to prepare graduates to meet these challenges now and in the future. This article conceptualizes the practice doctorate curriculum for nurse practitioners (NPs), with particular focus on how it will prepare NPs as expert clinicians with enhanced leadership and research skills. Nurse practitioner doctoral education and practice is articulated and differentiated from current NP education and practice, with distinguishing features clearly identified. A compelling argument is made for how this educational preparation will facilitate NPs in meeting future societal needs. The purpose of this article is to provide guidance for all advanced practice educational programs considering adoption of a practice doctorate, and to contribute to the advancement of thinking about the practice doctorate for clinicians as well as educators.

An exploratory study of premenstrual symptomatology, coping strategies, personal and family impact, and alterations in family functioning attributed to premenstrual symptoms was conducted. A sample of 83 women and 32 men completed a questionnaire before an evening lecture on premenstrual syndrome. Women reported a total of 74 different recurrent premenstrual symptoms, with the most frequently reported category being the "tension states." Men used multiple coping techniques to deal with their spouse's symptoms with offering support and expressing anger as the most frequently reported. Recurrent negative family impact themes emerged from the content analysis: increased conflict, decreased family cohesion, and disrupted communication among family members. Nursing implications are discussed.
