We present a lattice QCD calculation of the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon using $N_f=2+1+1$ flavors of staggered quarks with masses tuned to their physical values. Our final result, in the continuum limit, reads $a_{\mu}^{\mathrm{hlbl}} = 125.5(11.6)_{\mathrm{stat}}(0.4)_{\mathrm{syst}} \times 10^{-11}$ where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. Light, strange and charm-quark contributions are considered. In addition to the connected and leading disconnected contributions, we also include an estimate of the sub-leading disconnected diagrams. Hadronic contributions dominate the uncertainty of the Standard Model prediction for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In this work, we present results on the hadronic light-by-light contribution obtained from the evaluation of the hadronic four-point function of electromagnetic currents using the position-space formalism developed by the Mainz group. Following previous works on that topic, we consider Euclidean hadronic matrix elements in position space of two spatially separated local currents on the lattice, in order to extract the $x$ dependence of parton distribution functions (PDFs). The corresponding approach is often referred to by the term lattice cross section. In this work we will consider valence quark PDFs of an unpolarized proton. We adapt the previously established formalism to our choice of operators. The calculation of the two-current matrix elements requires the evaluation of four-point functions. The corresponding calculation is carried out on a $n_f = 2+1$ gauge ensemble with lattice spacing $a = 0.0856~\mathrm{fm}$ and pseudoscalar masses $m_\pi = 355~\mathrm{MeV}$ and $m_K = 441~\mathrm{MeV}$. The four-point functions have been evaluated in a previous project. The lattice data is converted to the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme at a scale $\mu=2~\mathrm{GeV}$ and improved with respect to lattice artifacts. Privacy engineering is gaining momentum in industry and academia alike. So far, manifold low-level primitives and higher-level methods and strategies have successfully been established. Still, fostering adoption in real-world information systems calls for additional aspects to be consciously considered in research and practice.

We study double parton distributions with flavor interference in the nucleon and compare them with previous results for the flavor diagonal case. We investigate both unpolarized and polarized partons. We compare our lattice results with those obtained from the simple description of the proton in terms of an SU(6) symmetric three-quark wave function and find that this description fails for both flavor and polarization dependence. We also derive and test a factorization ansatz for the unpolarized flavor interference distribution in terms of single-parton distributions and find that this ansatz fails to a large extent., Comment: 26 pages, 13 figures

The presence of quarks with different tastes complicates the analysis of the position-space correlation function. We present a suitable adaption of the "Mainz method". As a first numerical test, we reproduce the well-known lepton-loop contribution. Results at a single lattice spacing for the light quark contribution, using two volumes, are then discussed. Our study of the long distance behavior and finite-volume effects is supplemented by considering the contribution of the light pseudoscalar-pole. The shallow donor in zinc oxide (ZnO) is a promising semiconductor spin qubit with optical access. Single indium donors are isolated in a commercial ZnO substrate using plasma focused ion beam (PFIB) milling. Quantum emitters are identified optically by spatial and frequency filtering. The indium donor assignment is based on the optical bound exciton transition energy and magnetic dependence. The single donor emission is intensity and frequency stable with a transition linewidth less than twice the lifetime limit. The isolation of optically stable single donors post-FIB fabrication is promising for optical device integration required for scalable quantum technologies based on single donors in direct band gap semiconductors., Comment: E. Neutral shallow donors in zinc oxide (ZnO) are spin qubits with optical access via the donor-bound exciton. This spin-photon interface enables applications in quantum networking, memories and transduction. Essential optical parameters which impact the spin-photon interface include radiative lifetime, optical inhomogeneous and homogeneous linewidth and optical depth. We study the donor-bound exciton optical linewidth properties of Al, Ga, and In donors in single-crystal ZnO. The ensemble photoluminescence linewidth ranges from 4-11 GHz, less than two orders of magnitude larger than the expected lifetime-limited linewidth. The ensemble linewidth remains narrow in absorption through samples with an estimated optical depth up to several hundred. The primary thermal relaxation mechanism is identified and found to have a negligible contribution to the total linewidth at 2 K. We find that inhomogeneous broadening due to the disordered isotopic environment in natural ZnO is significant, contributing 2 GHz. Two-laser spectral hole burning measurements, indicate the dominant mechanism, however, is homogeneous. Despite this broadening, the high homogeneity, large optical depth and potential for isotope purification indicate that the optical properties of the ZnO donor-bound exciton are promising for a wide range of quantum technologies and motivate a need to improve the isotope and chemical purity of ZnO for quantum technologies., Comment: V. Shallow neutral donors (D$^{0}$) in ZnO have emerged as a promising candidate for solid-state spin qubits. Here, we report on the formation of D$^{0}$ in ZnO via implantation of In and subsequent annealing. The implanted In donors exhibit optical and spin properties on par with $\textit{in situ}$ doped donors. The inhomogeneous linewidth of the donor-bound exciton transition is less than 10 GHz, comparable to the optical linewidth of $\textit{in situ}$ In. Longitudinal spin relaxation times ($T_1$) exceed reported values for $\textit{in situ}$ Ga donors, indicating that residual In implantation damage does not degrade $T_1$. Two laser Raman spectroscopy on the donor spin reveals the hyperfine interaction of the donor electron with the spin-9/2 In nuclei. This work is an important step toward the deterministic formation of In donor qubits in ZnO with optical access to a long-lived nuclear spin memory.

Information about double parton distributions (DPDs) can be obtained by calculating four-point functions on the lattice. We continue our study on the first DPD Mellin moment of the unpolarized proton by considering interference effects w.r.t. the quark flavor. In our simulation we employ an $n_f = 2 + 1$ ensemble with inverse coupling $\beta = 3.4$, and pseudoscalar masses of $m_\pi = 355~\mathrm{MeV}$ and $m_K = 441~\mathrm{MeV}$. The results are converted to the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$-scheme at the scale $\mu = 2~\mathrm{GeV}$. The size frequency distribution of exoplanet radii between 1 and 4$R_{\oplus}$ is bimodal with peaks at $\sim$1.4 $R_{\oplus}$ and $\sim$2.4 $R_{\oplus}$, and a valley at $\sim$1.8$R_{\oplus}$. This radius valley separates two classes of planets -- usually referred to as "super-Earths" and "mini-Neptunes" -- and its origin remains debated. One model proposes that super-Earths are the outcome of photo-evaporation or core-powered mass-loss stripping the primordial atmospheres of the mini-Neptunes. A contrasting model interprets the radius valley as a dichotomy in the bulk compositions, where super-Earths are rocky planets and mini-Neptunes are water-ice rich worlds. In this work, we test whether the migration model is consistent with the radius valley and how it distinguishes these views. In the migration model, planets migrate towards the disk inner edge forming a chain of planets locked in resonant configurations. After the gas disk dispersal, orbital instabilities "break the chains" and promote late collisions. This model broadly matches the period-ratio and planet-multiplicity distributions of Kepler planets, and accounts for resonant chains such as TRAPPIST-1, Kepler-223, and TOI-178. Here, by combining the outcome of planet formation simulations with compositional mass-radius relationships, and assuming complete loss of primordial H-rich atmospheres in late giant-impacts, we show that the migration model accounts for the exoplanet radius valley and the intra-system uniformity ("peas-in-a-pod") of Kepler planets. Our results suggest that planets with sizes of $\sim$1.4 $R_{\oplus}$ are mostly rocky, whereas those with sizes of $\sim$2.4 $R_{\oplus}$ are mostly water-ice rich worlds. We present an experimental and theoretical study of the longitudinal electron spin relaxation ($T_1$) of shallow donors in the direct band-gap semiconductor ZnO. $T_1$ is measured via resonant excitation of the Ga donor-bound exciton. $T_1$ exhibits an inverse-power dependence on magnetic field $T_1\propto B^{-n}$, with $4\leq n\leq 5$, over a field range of 1.75 T to 7 T. We derive an analytic expression for the donor spin-relaxation rate due to spin-orbit (admixture mechanism) and electron-phonon (piezoelectric) coupling for the wurtzite crystal symmetry. Excellent quantitative agreement is found between experiment and theory suggesting the admixture spin-orbit mechanism is the dominant contribution to $T_1$ in the measured magnetic field range. Temperature and excitation-energy dependent measurements indicate a donor density dependent interaction may contribute to small deviations between experiment and theory. The longest $T_1$ measured is 480 ms at 1.75 T with increasing $T_1$ at smaller fields theoretically expected. Shallow donors in ZnO are promising candidates for photon-mediated quantum technologies. Utilizing the indium donor, we show that favorable donor-bound exciton optical and electron spin properties are retained in isolated ZnO nanowires. The inhomogeneous optical linewidth of single nanowires (60 GHz) is within a factor of 2 of bulk single-crystalline ZnO. Spin initialization via optical pumping is demonstrated and coherent population trapping is observed. The two-photon absorption width approaches the theoretical limit expected due to the hyperfine interaction between the indium nuclear spin and the donor-bound electron.

We provide a first study of Mellin moments of double parton distributions (DPDs) in the nucleon on the lattice, where we consider several combinations of quark flavors and polarizations. These are accessible through two-current correlations, which can be obtained by evaluating four-point functions. In this context we consider all possible Wick contractions, where for almost all of them sufficiently clear signals are obtained. This work presents improvements in monocular hand shape estimation by building on top of recent advances in unsupervised learning. We extend momentum contrastive learning and contribute a structured collection of hand images, well suited for visual representation learning, which we call HanCo. We find that the representation learned by established contrastive learning methods can be improved significantly by exploiting advanced background removal techniques and multi-view information. These allow us to generate more diverse instance pairs than those obtained by augmentations commonly used in exemplar based approaches. Our method leads to a more suitable representation for the hand shape estimation task and shows a 4.7% reduction in mesh error and a 3.6% improvement in F-score compared to an ImageNet pretrained baseline. We make our benchmark dataset publicly available, to encourage further research into this direction.

We evaluate nucleon four-point functions in the framework of lattice QCD in order to extract the first Mellin moment of double parton distributions (DPDs) in the unpolarized proton. In this first study, we employ an nf = 2 + 1 ensemble with pseudoscalar masses of mpi = 355 MeV and mK = 441 MeV. The results are converted to the scale mu = 2 GeV. Our calculation includes all Wick contractions, and for almost all of them a good statistical signal is obtained. We analyze the dependence of the DPD Mellin moments on the quark flavor and the quark polarization. We present lattice results for the non-perturbative Collins-Soper (CS) kernel, which describes the energy-dependence of transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions (TMDs). The CS kernel is extracted from the ratios of first Mellin moments of quasi-TMDs evaluated at different nucleon momenta.The analysis is done with dynamical $N_f=2+1$ clover fermions for the CLS ensemble H101 ($a=0.0854\,\mathrm{fm}$, $m_{\pi}=m_K=422\,\mathrm{MeV}$). The computed CS kernel is in good agreement with experimental extractions and previous lattice studies.

We perform a lattice study of double parton distributions in the pion, using the relationship between their Mellin moments and pion matrix elements of two local currents. A good statistical signal is obtained for almost all relevant Wick contractions. We investigate correlations in the spatial distribution of two partons in the pion, as well as correlations involving the parton polarisation. The patterns we observe depend significantly on the quark mass. We calculate correlation functions of two local operators within the nucleon carrying momentum. We resolve their dependence on the spatial distance of the currents. This is carried out for all Wick contractions, taking into account several operator insertion types. The resulting four-point functions can be related to parton distribution functions as well as to Mellin moments of double parton distributions. For the latter, we analyze their quark spin and flavor dependency. Estimating 3D hand pose from single RGB images is a highly ambiguous problem that relies on an unbiased training dataset. In this paper, we analyze cross-dataset generalization when training on existing datasets. We find that approaches perform well on the datasets they are trained on, but do not generalize to other datasets or in-the-wild scenarios. As a consequence, we introduce the first large-scale, multi-view hand dataset that is accompanied by both 3D hand pose and shape annotations. For annotating this real-world dataset, we propose an iterative, semi-automated `human-in-the-loop' approach, which includes hand fitting optimization to infer both the 3D pose and shape for each sample. We show that methods trained on our dataset consistently perform well when tested on other datasets. Moreover, the dataset allows us to train a network that predicts the full articulated hand shape from a single RGB image. We perform a systematic study of the correlation functions of two quark currents in a pion using lattice QCD. We obtain good signals for all but one of the relevant Wick contractions of quark fields. We investigate the quark mass dependence of our results and test the importance of correlations between the quark and the antiquark in the pion. We propose an approach to estimate 3D human pose in real world units from a single RGBD image and show that it exceeds performance of monocular 3D pose estimation approaches from color as well as pose estimation exclusively from depth. Our approach builds on robust human keypoint detectors for color images and incorporates depth for lifting into 3D. We combine the system with our learning from demonstration framework to instruct a service robot without the need of markers. Experiments in real world settings demonstrate that our approach enables a PR2 robot to imitate manipulation actions observed from a human teacher., Comment: Accepted to ICRA 2018. Low-cost consumer depth cameras and deep learning have enabled reasonable 3D hand pose estimation from single depth images. In this paper, we present an approach that estimates 3D hand pose from regular RGB images. This task has far more ambiguities due to the missing depth information. To this end, we propose a deep network that learns a network-implicit 3D articulation prior. Together with detected keypoints in the images, this network yields good estimates of the 3D pose. We introduce a large scale 3D hand pose dataset based on synthetic hand models for training the involved networks. Experiments on a variety of test sets, including one on sign language recognition, demonstrate the feasibility of 3D hand pose estimation on single color images., Comment: Accepted to ICCV 2017. The effects of double hard interactions are no longer negligible at energy scales reached at the LHC. Double parton scattering (DPS) processes are often described by taking the product of two single parton scattering processes assuming that interference effects are very small. We calculate four point functions (4pt-functions), which appear in the the DPS cross section, employing lattice techniques. We consider a pion at rest and test the validity of the afore-mentioned factorization assumption by convoluting two pion form factors and comparing the result to the 4pt data. For our calculations we use a $N_f = 2$ gauge ensemble on a $40^3 \times 64$ lattice, with lattice spacing $a = 0.071$ fm and pion mass $m_{\pi} = 288.8$ MeV., Comment: To be published in PoS(LATTICE2016)152

A variety of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies has been presented during the past years. However, investigation of frameworks for classification and assessment of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies has lacked behind. The lack of precise classification and categorization approaches poses an obstacle not only to systematic requirements analysis for Transparency-Enhancing Technologies but also to investigation and analysis of their capabilities and their suitability to contribute to privacy protection. This paper addresses this research gap.
