Abstract The development of dietary fibers as safe and effective food additives or nutrients for preventing and alleviating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is increasingly important. β‐glucans, renowned prebiotics, have shown promise in alleviating IBD symptoms by modulating gut flora diversity and repairing the intestinal barrier. Auricularia auricula‐judae, an edible fungus, contains a β‐glucan with a triple‐helical structure polysaccharide from black fungus Auricularia auricula‐judae (BFP), which exhibits unique sol–gel properties. This study revealed that BFP forms weak gels or sols at increasing concentrations, enhancing swallow ability and extending intestinal transit time, beneficial for patients with dysphagia requiring targeted intestinal administration. The impact of BFP on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)‐induced ulcerative colitis was examined, showing that BFP sols maintain intestinal barrier integrity by up‐regulating MUC2, ZO‐1, Occludin, and Claudin expressions and reducing inflammatory factors. Furthermore, BFP sols augmented probiotics abundance, decreased harmful bacteria, and restored Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes balance. These findings suggest BFP sols’ potential as functional food or alternative IBD treatment.

Abstract Dielectric energy storage capacitors with excellent high temperature resistance are essential in fields such as aerospace and pulse power. However, common high‐temperature resistant polymers such as polyimide (PI) and polyether sulfone have low energy storage densities and energy efficiencies at high temperature, which are greatly limited in practical applications. The polymer nanocomposites prepared by doping modification can regulate the charge injection and transport process, and improve the high‐temperature energy storage performance. However, the quantitative relationship between charge injection and charge trapping and the energy storage performance of linear polymer nanocomposites still needs further study. An energy storage and release model considering the charge trapping effects is constructed by the authors. We simulate the high‐temperature energy storage properties of polyimide nanocomposite dielectrics (PI PNCs) with different charge injection barriers and trap parameters at 150°C. A triangular voltage is applied to the electrodes at both sides of the PI PNCs, the electric displacement‐electric field loop is simulated, and the discharged energy densities and energy efficiencies are calculated. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental results. Increasing the charge injection barrier, deep trap energy and deep trap density can effectively reduce the charge injection and the carrier mobility, thereby improving the discharged energy densities and energy efficiencies of dielectric capacitors. In the case of low charge injection barrier (1.3 eV), with the increase of deep trap energy (0.7–1.5 eV) and deep trap density (1 × 1021–1 × 1025 m−3), the discharged energy density changes from 0.20 to 1.44 Jcm−3, the energy efficiency changes from 9.0% to 99.9%, and the high‐temperature energy storage performance improves significantly. This research provides theoretical and model support for the improvement of the high‐temperature energy storage performance of nanocomposites.

Sophora alopecuroides has important uses in medicine, wind breaking, and sand fixation. The CHY-zinc-finger and RING-finger (CHYR) proteins are crucial for plant growth, development, and environmental adaptation; however, genetic data regarding the CHYR family remain scarce. We aimed to investigate the CHYR gene family in S. alopecuroides and its response to abiotic stress, and identified 18 new SaCHYR genes from S. alopecuroides whole-genome data, categorized into 3 subclasses through a phylogenetic analysis. Gene structure, protein domains, and conserved motifs analyses revealed an exon–intron structure and conserved domain similarities. A chromosome localization analysis showed distribution across 12 chromosomes. A promoter analysis revealed abiotic stress-, light-, and hormone-responsive elements. An RNA-sequencing expression pattern analysis revealed positive responses of SaCHYR genes to salt, alkali, and drought stress. SaCHYR4 overexpression considerably enhanced alkali and drought tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana. These findings shed light on SaCHYR’s function and the resistance mechanisms of S. alopecuroides, presenting new genetic resources for crop resistance breeding.

Background: At present, the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis has not been fully elucidated, and the diagnosis and treatment face great challenges. Cuproptosis is a novel cell death pattern that might be involved in the development of atherosclerosis. However, no research has reported the correlation between cuproptosis and atherosclerosis. Methods: The differential cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) between atherosclerosis group and control group (A-CRGs) were discovered via differential expression analysis. The correlation analysis, PPI network analysis, GO, KEGG and GSEA analysis were performed to investigate the function of A-CRGs. The differences of biological function between atherosclerosis group and control group were investigated via immune infiltration analysis and GSVA. The LASSO regression, nomogram and machine learning models were constructed to predict atherosclerosis risk. The atherosclerosis molecular subtypes clusters were discovered via unsupervised cluster analysis. Subsequently, we used the above research methods to analyze the differential CRGs between clusters (M-CRGs) and evaluate the molecular subtypes identification performance of M-CRGs. Finally, we verified the diagnostic value for atherosclerosis and role in cuproptosis of these CRGs through the validation set and in vitro experiments. Results: Five A-CRGs were identified and they were mainly related to the biological function of copper ion metabolism and immune inflammatory response. The diagnostic models and nomogram of atherosclerosis based on 5 A-CRGs indicated that these genes had well diagnostic value. A total of two molecular subtypes clusters were obtained in the atherosclerosis group. There were many differences in biological functions between these two molecular subtypes clusters, such as mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization and primary immunodeficiency. In addition, 3 M-CRGs were identified in the 2 clusters. Machine learning models and nomogram constructed based on M-CRGs showed that these genes had well molecular subtypes identification efficacy. In the end, the results of in vitro experiment and validation set confirmed the diagnostic value for atherosclerosis and role in cuproptosis of these genes. Conclusion: The cuproptosis may be a potential pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and CRGs may be promising markers for the diagnosis and molecular subtypes identification of atherosclerosis.

With their advantages of abundant raw material reserves, safety, and low toxicity and cost, sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have gained increasing attention in recent years. Thanks to a high theoretical specific capacity (124 mAh g−1), a high operating voltage (about 3.2 V), and a very stable three-dimensional layered structure, sodium ferric fluorophosphate (Na2FePO4F, NFPF) has emerged as a strong candidate to be used as a cathode material for SIBs. However, applications are currently limited due to the low electronic conductivity and slow ion diffusion rate of NFPF, which result in a low actual specific capacity and a high rate performance. In this study, the authors used a high-temperature solid-phase technique to produce Na2−xLixFePO4F/C (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) and evaluated the impact on electrode performance of materials with different Na+ and Li+ contents (values of x). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were also used to analyze the material’s crystal structure and nanostructure. The results show that the material had the best room-temperature performance when x = 0.5. At a charge–discharge rate of 0.1 C, the first discharge-specific capacity of the resulting Na1.5Li0.5FePO4F/C cathode material was 122.9 mAh g−1 (the theoretical capacity was 124 mAh g−1), and after 100 cycles, it remained at 118 mAh g−1, representing a capacity retention rate of 96.2% and a Coulomb efficiency of 98%. The findings of this study demonstrate that combining lithium and sodium ions improves the electrochemical performance of electrode materials.

BackgroundThe pathogenesis of myocardial infarction complicating depression is still not fully understood. Bioinformatics is an effective method to study the shared pathogenesis of multiple diseases and has important application value in myocardial infarction complicating depression.MethodsThe differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between control group and myocardial infarction group (M-DEGs), control group and depression group (D-DEGs) were identified in the training set. M-DEGs and D-DEGs were intersected to obtain DEGs shared by the two diseases (S-DEGs). The GO, KEGG, GSEA and correlation analysis were conducted to analyze the function of DEGs. The biological function differences of myocardial infarction and depression were analyzed by GSVA and immune cell infiltration analysis. Four machine learning methods, nomogram, ROC analysis, calibration curve and decision curve were conducted to identify hub S-DEGs and predict depression risk. The unsupervised cluster analysis was constructed to identify myocardial infarction molecular subtype clusters based on hub S-DEGs. Finally, the value of these genes was verified in the validation set, and blood samples were collected for RT-qPCR experiments to further verify the changes in expression levels of these genes in myocardial infarction and depression.ResultsA total of 803 M-DEGs, 214 D-DEGs, 13 S-DEGs and 6 hub S-DEGs (CD24, CSTA, EXTL3, RPS7, SLC25A5 and ZMAT3) were obtained in the training set and they were all involved in immune inflammatory response. The GSVA and immune cell infiltration analysis results also suggested that immune inflammation may be the shared pathogenesis of myocardial infarction and depression. The diagnostic models based on 6 hub S-DEGs found that these genes showed satisfactory combined diagnostic performance for depression. Then, two molecular subtypes clusters of myocardial infarction were identified, many differences in immune inflammation related-biological functions were found between them, and the hub S-DEGs had satisfactory molecular subtypes identification performance. Finally, the analysis results of the validation set further confirmed the value of these hub genes, and the RT-qPCR results of blood samples further confirmed the expression levels of these hub genes in myocardial infarction and depression.ConclusionImmune inflammation may be the shared pathogenesis of myocardial infarction and depression. Meanwhile, hub S-DEGs may be potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and molecular subtype identification of myocardial infarction and depression.

Large-scale production, rapid consumption, insufficient recovery and management, and slow degradation lead to a large accumulation of plastic waste and microplastics. Microplastics are characterized as stable, small, and having a large specific surface area and strong hydrophobicity. They are carriers of many hydrophobic organic pollutants, heavy metals, pathogenic bacteria and drug resistance genes. Worldwide, microplastic pollution in soils has attracted much attention. The progress and perspectives in the separation and detection of soil microplastics deserve a comprehensive review and discussion. Here, the sources and distributions of microplastics in soil from the use of agricultural plastic film, sludge recycling, long-term application of organic fertilizer, surface runoff, and sewage irrigation are summarized. Physical separation methods such as density separation, electrostatic separation, oil extraction and pressurized liquid extraction, and chemical extraction methods such as acid digestion, alkaline digestion, hydrogen peroxide and Fenton reagent oxidation, and enzymatic hydrolysis for soil microplastics are reviewed. Futhermore, the detection technologies of soil microplastics through microscopy, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance are reviewed. Finally, the perspectives are put forward from understanding the impacts of microplastics on soil functions and health, developing source control and environmental remediation technology, investigating low-cost and rapid separation and extraction methods that preserve the characteristics of microplastics, strengthen the degree of automation to avoid artificial operation error, and establish the standard methods for isolating, extracting, identifying, and quantifying microplastics in soils. This review serves as a technical reference for rapid identification of soil microplastics and builds the foundation for scientific assessment of the ecological and human environmental risks of soil microplastics.

Red palm oil (RPO), which is rich in micronutrients, especially carotenoids, is different from its deodorized counterpart, palm oil. It is considered as one of the most promising food ingredients, owing to its unique compositions and nutritional values, while its usage could be further developed by improving its thermal behaviors. In this article, two typical commercial RPOs, HRPO (H. red palm oil) and NRPO (N. red palm oil), were evaluated by analyzing their fatty acids, triacylglycerols, micronutrients, oxidative stability index (OSI), and solid fat contents (SFCs). Micronutrients, mainly carotenes, tocopherols, polyphenols, and squalene, significantly increased the oxidative stability indices (OSIs) of the RPOs (from 10.02 to 12.06 h), while the OSIs of their micronutrient-free counterparts were only 1.12 to 1.82 h. HRPO exhibited a lower SFC than those of NRPO. RPOs softened at around 10 °C and completely melted near 20 °C. Although the softening problem may limit the usages of RPOs, that problem could be solved by incorporating RPOs with mango kernel fat (MKF). The binary blends containing 40% RPOs and 60% MKF exhibited desirable compatibilities, making that blend suitable for the manufacture of aerated emulsions with improved whipping performance and foam stabilities. The results provide a new application of RPOs and MKF in the manufacture of aerated emulsions with improved nutritional values and desired whipping capabilities.

The rational design of the heterogeneous interfaces enables precise adjustment of the electronic structure and optimization of the kinetics for electron/ion migration in energy storage materials. In this work, the built-in electric field is introduced to the iron-based anode material (Fe2O3@TiO2) through the well-designed heterostructure. This model serves as an ideal platform for comprehending the atomic-level optimization of electron transfer in advanced lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). As a result, the core-shell Fe2O3@TiO2 delivers a remarkable discharge capacity of 1342 mAh g−1 and an extraordinary capacity retention of 82.7% at 0.1 A g−1 after 300 cycles. Fe2O3@TiO2 shows an excellent rate performance from 0.1 A g−1 to 4.0 A g−1. Further, the discharge capacity of Fe2O3@TiO2 reached 736 mAh g−1 at 1.0 A g−1 after 2000 cycles, and the corresponding capacity retention is 83.62%. The heterostructure forms a conventional p-n junction, successfully constructing the built-in electric field and lithium-ion reservoir. The kinetic analysis demonstrates that Fe2O3@TiO2 displays high pseudocapacitance behavior (77.8%) and fast lithium-ion reaction kinetics. The capability of heterointerface engineering to optimize electrochemical reaction kinetics offers novel insights for constructing high-performance iron-based anodes for LIBs.

The palladium-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling of α, β-unsaturated acid derivatives offers a diversity-oriented synthetic strategy for cross-conjugated enynones. However, the susceptibility of the unsaturated C-C bonds adjacent to the carbonyl group toward Pd catalysts makes the direct conversion of α, β-unsaturated derivatives as acyl electrophiles to cross-conjugated ketones rare. This work presents a highly selective C-O activation approach to prepare cross-conjugated enynones using α, β-unsaturated triazine esters as acyl electrophiles. Under base and phosphine ligand-free conditions, NHC-Pd(II)-Allyl precatalyst alone catalyzed the cross-coupling of α, β-unsaturated triazine esters with terminal alkynes efficiently, yielding 31 cross-conjugated enynones with diverse functional groups. This method demonstrates the potential of triazine-mediated C-O activation for preparing highly functionalized ketones.

BackgroundFull-percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (F-PELD) is a popular operation for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Some studies have reported that F-PELD in day surgery mode produced favorable outcomes for LDH. At the same time, minimally invasive spinal surgery following enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) presents a rising trend in recent years, but few studies reported whether F-PELD will produce better outcomes in the day surgery (DS) mode combined with ERAS.ObjectiveTo analyze whether F-PELD in day surgery mode following ERAS can produce better clinical outcomes than in traditional surgery mode.MethodsThe patients who underwent F-PELD between January 2019 and October 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients who met the inclusive criteria were followed up. The patients were divided into day surgery (DS) group (n = 152) that combined with ERAS and traditional surgery (TS) group (n = 123) without ERAS. The length of hospital stays (LOS), visual analogue scale (VAS), and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) of two groups were compared before surgery, immediately after surgery, one month after surgery, and one year after surgery.ResultsA total of 298 patients who underwent F-PELD were reviewed. 290 patients were included in the study and followed up, and 275 patients who had completed the follow-up were available for analysis. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of age, gender, preoperative VAS, and ODI. Purpose: Percutaneous full-endoscopic anterior cervical discectomy (PEACD) and posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) as alternatives to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) are extensively used in the treatment of patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. The possibility of avoiding the risk of accelerated degeneration of the adjacent segments caused by fusion is claimed to be the theoretical advantage of these approaches; however, there is a paucity of supportive evidence from biomechanical data. Therefore, this study investigated and compared the effects of PCF, PEACD, and ACDF on the adjacent segments and operative segments of the cervical spine from a biomechanical standpoint. Method: A normal and intact three-dimensional finite element digital model of C4–C7 was constructed and validated, and the finite element models of PEACD, PCF, and ACDF were obtained by modifying the C4–C7 model. All models were exposed to identical conditions of load during flexion, extension, axial rotation, and lateral bending. We calculated the range of motion (ROM), intervertebral disc pressure (IDP), and facet joint contact force (FJCF) of the operative segment and the adjacent segment in different motion conditions. Result: The conventional ACDF had a remarkable influence on the ROM and IDP of the operative segment and the adjacent segments. In the PEACD model, the change of ROM was not noticeable; the IDP of the operative segment was significantly smaller, whereas the change of IDP of the adjacent segment was insignificant. In the PCF model, the ROM and IDP of all segments remained unaffected.During extension, the facet joint contact force changed significantly after ACDF, and it changed slightly after PECAD and PCF. Conclusion: By comparatively analyzing the biomechanical changes of the cervical spine after PCF, PEACD, and ACDF using the finite element method, we suggested that PCF and PEACD were more suitable for surgical intervention of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy than ACDF from a biomechanical point of view and PCF may outperform PEACD.

The development of direct current high-voltage power cables requires insulating materials having excellent electrically insulation properties. Experiments show that appropriate nanodoping can improve the breakdown strength of polyethylene (PE) nanocomposites. Research indicates that traps, free volumes, and molecular displacement are key factors affecting the breakdown strength. This study comprehensively considered the space charge transport, electron energy gain, and molecular chain long-distance movement during the electrical breakdown process. In addition, we established three simulation models focusing on the electric field distortion due to space charges captured by traps, the energy gain of mobile electrons in free volumes, the free volume expansion caused by long-distance movement of molecular chains under the Coulomb force, and the energy gained by the electrons moving in the enlarged free volumes. The three simulation models considered the electrical breakdown modulated by space charges, with a maximum electric field criterion and a maximum electron energy criterion, and the electrical breakdown modulated by the molecular displacement (EBMD), with a maximum electron energy criterion. These three models were utilized to simulate the breakdown strength dependent on the nanofiller content of PE nanocomposites. The simulation results of the EBMD model coincided best with the experimental results. It was revealed that the breakdown electric field of PE nanodielectrics is improved synergistically by both the strong trapping effect of traps and the strong binding effect of molecular chains in the interfacial regions.

Salt stress seriously restricts crop yield and quality, leading to an urgent need to understand its effects on plants and the mechanism of plant responses. Although phytohormones are crucial for plant responses to salt stress, the role of phytohormone signal transduction in the salt stress responses of stress-resistant species such as Sophora alopecuroides has not been reported. Herein, we combined transcriptome and metabolome analyses to evaluate expression changes of key genes and metabolites associated with plant hormone signal transduction in S. alopecuroides roots under salt stress for 0 h to 72 h. Auxin, cytokinin, brassinosteroid, and gibberellin signals were predominantly involved in regulating S. alopecuroides growth and recovery under salt stress. Ethylene and jasmonic acid signals may negatively regulate the response of S. alopecuroides to salt stress. Abscisic acid and salicylic acid are significantly upregulated under salt stress, and their signals may positively regulate the plant response to salt stress. Additionally, salicylic acid (SA) might regulate the balance between plant growth and resistance by preventing reduction in growth-promoting hormones and maintaining high levels of abscisic acid (ABA). This study provides insight into the mechanism of salt stress response in S. alopecuroides and the corresponding role of plant hormones, which is beneficial for crop resistance breeding.

In the quest for efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts for Sonogashira coupling reactions, a PEG-OMe (Methoxy Polyene Glycol) - mediated method was developed to immobilize Pd/Cu bimetallic nanoparticles on activated carbon (AC). Catalytic experiments showed that Pd/Cu@AC prepared in a PEG-OMe 500 had the highest activity. The morphology and composition of the catalyst were determined, and the identified crystallized and heterometallic nanoparticles of Pd/Cu were essential for an efficient catalytic cycle. The Pd/Cu@AC catalyst was successfully used in Sonogashira reactions (21 examples) including with aryl bromides as the coupling partner in EtOH at 80−100 °C. The catalyst was recycled at least nine times.

The pharmaceutical clay montmorillonite (MMT) is, for the first time, explored as a carbon monoxide-releasing material (CORMat). MMT consists of silicate double layered structure; its exfoliation feature intercalate the CORM-2 [RuCl(μ-Cl)(CO)3]2 inside the layers to suppress the toxicity of organometallic segment. The infrared spectroscopy (IR) confirmed the existence of ruthenium coordinated carbonyl ligand in MMT layers. The energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis showed that ruthenium element in this material was about 5%. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images showed that the layer-structure of MMT has been maintained after loading the ruthenium carbonyl segment. Moreover, the layers have been stretched out, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Thermogravimetric (TG) curves with huge weight loss around 100−200 °C were attributed to the CO hot-release of ruthenium carbonyl as well as the loss of the adsorbed solvent molecules and the water molecules between the layers. The CO-liberating properties have been assessed through myoglobin assay. The horse myoglobin test showed that the material could be hydrolyzed to slowly release carbon monoxide in physiological environments. The half-life of CO release was much longer than that of CORM-3, and it has an excellent environmental tolerance and slow release effect.

The CO-releasing materials (CORMats) are used as substances for producing CO molecules for therapeutic purposes. Carbon monoxide (CO) imparts toxic effects to biological organisms at higher concentration. If this characteristic is utilized in a controlled manner, it can act as a cell-signaling agent for important pathological and pharmacokinetic functions; hence offering many new applications and treatments. Recently, research on therapeutic applications using the CO treatment has gained much attention due to its nontoxic nature, and its injection into the human body using several conjugate systems. Mainly, there are two types of CO insertion techniques into the human body, i.e., direct and indirect CO insertion. Indirect CO insertion offers an advantage of avoiding toxicity as compared to direct CO insertion. For the indirect CO inhalation method, developers are facing certain problems, such as its inability to achieve the specific cellular targets and how to control the dosage of CO. To address these issues, researchers have adopted alternative strategies regarded as CO-releasing molecules (CORMs). CO is covalently attached with metal carbonyl complexes (MCCs), which generate various CORMs such as CORM-1, CORM-2, CORM-3, ALF492, CORM-A1 and ALF186. When these molecules are inserted into the human body, CO is released from these compounds at a controlled rate under certain conditions or/and triggers. Such reactions are helpful in achieving cellular level targets with a controlled release of the CO amount. However on the other hand, CORMs also produce a metal residue (termed as i-CORMs) upon degradation that can initiate harmful toxic activity inside the body. To improve the performance of the CO precursor with the restricted development of i-CORMs, several new CORMats have been developed such as micellization, peptide, vitamins, MOFs, polymerization, nanoparticles, protein, metallodendrimer, nanosheet and nanodiamond, etc. In this review article, we shall describe modern ways of CO administration; focusing primarily on exclusive features of CORM’s tissue accumulations and their toxicities. This report also elaborates on the kinetic profile of the CO gas. The comprehension of developmental phases of CORMats shall be useful for exploring the ideal CO therapeutic drugs in the future of medical sciences.
