Abstract

Kaposi disease (KD) is an angiogenetic tumor process, characterized by its various clinical aspects. Its pathogenesis is multifactorial and it was attributed to HHV-8 infection. We report an original case of disseminated KD revealed by solitary lesion of external ear in a patient treated by corticosteroids for bullous pemphigoid.

Abstract

Inflammatory pseudotumors are reactive and rare lesions of unknown origin. They are locally aggressive, but they generally do not extend beyond the affected organ, with a favorable prognosis after radical surgical resection. Symptoms and radiologic features are often nonspecific, and pathological examination plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of inflammatory pseudotumors along with immunohistochemical staining to rule out differential diagnosis, especially myofibroblastic inflammatory tumor. Molecular biology can play a decisive role when these latter cannot establish a definitive diagnosis. Herein, we present a case study that describes a 65-year-old woman presenting a mesocolic mass. The patient underwent a surgical excision, which included a wedge gastric resection, transverse colectomy, and colocolic side-to-side stapled anastomosis. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed an inflammatory pseudotumor. Surgery remains the main treatment and depends on the location of the tumor. No recurrences are noted; however, a standardized follow-up protocol for inflammatory pseudotumors has yet to be established. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Pancreatic primary squamous cell carcinoma (PPSCC) is very uncommon. The major diagnostic method is histology, and it requires the exclusion of a metastasis from a different primary location (lung, esophagus...). Herein, we describe two cases of a PPSCC (one in the head and the other one in the tail and the body of the pancreas) with a brief review of literature. 12. A pediatric case of resistant lichen planus pigmentosus treated with colchicine

Abstract

This is a case report of a 8-year-old child with lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP), a rare subtype of pediatric lichen planus, successfully treated with colchicine after failure of other therapeutic options. Colchicine was introduced at a dose of 0.5mg/day for 1 year with sun protection, resulting in cessation of the eruption's extension and decrease in hyperpigmentation. No adverse effects were observed. This case highlights the potential of colchicine as a treatment option for pediatric patients with LPP, although further studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are needed to establish its safety and effectiveness.

Pilomatrixomais a cutaneous tumor, originating from the hair matrix, mostly affecting pediatric population. We report a particularly uncommon location of pilomatrixoma: the scrotal skin. A 50-year-old man, without history, has developed a hydrocele . Most often, its preoperative diagnosis is not possible, because of its clinical polymorphism. The precise diagnosis is histological, by the revealing of mummified cells. Abstract

Epidemiologic data support an association between diet and mutations in the Kirsten-ras (KRAS) gene involved in colorectal cancer (CRC) development. This study aimed to explore the associations between fat intake and KRAS mutations in codons 12 and 13 in cases of CRC in the Moroccan population. A multicenter case-series study nested in a large-scale Moroccan CRC case-control study was conducted. Among all CRC cases recruited, 151 specimens were available for the DNA mutation analysis. Logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (Cis) for KRAS mutation status according to the fat intake variables. A KRAS mutation was detected in the CRC tumor of 34.4% of the patients among whom 65.4% had a single mutation at codon 12 and 34.6% had a single mutation at codon 13. Compared to low levels of consumption, a positive association was observed between high polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) consumption (>16.9 g/day) and prevalence of KRAS mutations (OR = 2.15, 95% CI = 1.01–4.59). No statistically significant associations were observed for total fat, monounsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty acids and KRAS mutations. The results of this study suggest that PUFA may be relevant in the etiology of CRC, possibly through the generation of G > A transitions at the KRAS oncogene. Further studies are needed to verify and explain this finding.

Abstract

Mycosis fungoides is the most common variant of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Large cell transformation in mycosis fungoides is the histopathological transformation of neoplastic small lymphocytes to a clonally identical large cell phenotype. It is associated with a poor prognosis, although some patients have indolent disease. Clinically, it is manifested by ulcerated, tumoral lesions that may affect the entire body. The location in the external auditory canal has never been described before. Herein, we report the first case of transformed mycosis fungoides located in the external auditory canal. Abstract

A thirty-year-old patient presented with an erythematous papule on the left nostril evolving for ten months. A clinical examination revealed an infiltrated, erythematous, well-limited plaque with a raised border, covered with multiple open and closed comedones. On dermoscopy, there was an erythematous background with some fine telangiectasias and horny plugs at the follicular orifices. A skin biopsy was performed, revealing orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis sinking into the follicular orifices dilated by sebum clumps with basal vacuolation associated with a subepidermal and periadnexal/perivascular lymphocyte band infiltrate. Direct immunofluorescence staining for immunoglobulin M was positive. The diagnosis of lupus comedones was retained, and the patient was put on topical tacrolimus 0.1% twice a day. A systemic damage assessment was negative. Our case highlighted, the importance of recognizing this rare variant of cutaneous lupus, confused with acne vulgaris, hence the delayed diagnosis, which may also be an early sign of a concomitant systemic involvement.
