Abstract

The states of the qubit, the basic unit of quantum information, are 2 × 2 positive semi-definite Hermitian matrices with trace 1. We contribute to the program to axiomatize quantum mechanics by characterizing these states in terms of an entropic uncertainty principle formulated on an eight-point phase space. We do this by employing Rényi entropy (a generalization of Shannon entropy) suitably defined for the signed phase-space probability distributions that arise in representing quantum states.

10. Abstract 12687: Interatrial Conduction Changes Following Radiofrequency Pulmonary Vein Isolation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (paf)

Abstract

Aims:Abnormal intra-atrial conduction (IAC) plays a key role in the induction and maintenance of atrial arrhythmias. Wide atrial circumferential ablation (WACA) to isolate Pulmonary Veins (PVI), a common procedure to treat PAF, could damage IAC and facilitate the emergence of future arrhythmias.Methods:27 unmedicated patients (pts) (age 65 ? 10 years, 26 males) with PAF underwent radiofrequency wide atrial circumferential ablation (WACA) to isolate the Pulmonary Veins (PVI). 3D Left Atrium (LA) mapping was performed using Penta-ray catheter (Carto, Biosense Webster) before and after ablation. LA breakthroughs (bk) were localized by the superimposition of the clock face on RPVs (Fig. 1) using 5 ms interval isochronal windows. A second bk was deemed present if it occurred within 20 ms from first. Major post ablation shift in LA bk was defined as a quadrant change on the clock face.Results:Pre-procedure LA bk was anterior in 21, inferior in 6 and dual (anterior and posterior) in 2 pts. Post-ablation bk shifted from initial anterior bk to posterior in 2, and inferior in 7. In 2 pts bks shifted from inferior to anterior. The distance between the ablation line (al) and initial LA bk was closer in the group with major post ablation shifts (4.3 ? 5.4 mm) when compared with unchanged bk (12.1 ? 5.9 mm p<0.02). Overall LA conduction changed as shown in Tab 1.Conclusion:IAC pathways were damaged in a large percentage of pts following WACA and the magnitude of these changes is related to the proximity of ablation line to the initial LA bk.
