Abstract

This investigation focused on the antecedents and impacts on volunteer pro-environmental behavior, and explored the effects of meaningfulness through pride and environmental passion according to the cognitive appraisal theory of emotions. A mixed method research design was used, consisting of interviews, observations, and surveys with volunteers. The research was conducted at Danxia Mountain in Guangdong Province, China, a protected area, UNESCO World Heritage List site, and Geopark. Based on a survey of 302 volunteers, a sequential mediating model was tested through bootstrapping. It was found that perceived volunteering meaningfulness improved sustainable pro-environmental behavior, and pride and environmental passion played sequential mediating roles between meaningfulness and pro-environmental behavior. Compared with pride, environmental passion was the more significant and proximal antecedent of pro-environmental behavior. In addition, awe of the place strengthened the effects of pride and environmental passion on pro-environmental behavior. Abstract

Neural signal recording is attracting more and more attention, as it provides an necessary approach to read brain activities, understand the brain operation and restore the lost motor function of the body. One of the most important modules in the neural recording system is the sensor interface IC, which captures, amplifies, filters, and digitizes the weak neural signal. In order to preserve free movement of the subject under testing and minimize the risk of infection, the sensor interface IC is usually implanted under the skin or skull with wireless transmission. The nature of the neural signal and its recording scenarios impose rigid design specifications to the sensor interface IC, such as low noise, low power, low cut-off frequency and minimum chip size. Many designs have been reported recently to tackle these challenges in neural recording system. In this paper, design techniques for neural recording sensor interface IC will be introduced, including the design of system architecture and neural amplifier. Methods to realize low power, low noise and low cut-off frequency are investigated. In addition, the methods to achieve system power and area optimization are also discussed. Accepted version

Abstract

This paper presents a neural recording analog front-end IC intended for simultaneous neural recording with action potential (AP) detection for data compression in wireless multichannel neural implants. The proposed neural recording front-end IC detects the neural spikes and sends only the preserved AP information for wireless transmission in order to reduce the overall power consumption of the neural implant. The IC consists of a low-noise neural amplifier, an AP detection circuit and an analog buffer with digital delay. The neural amplifier makes use of a current-reuse technique to maximize the transconductance efficiency for attaining a good noise efficiency factor. The AP detection circuit uses an adaptive threshold voltage to generate an enable signal for the subsequent functional blocks. The analog buffer with digital delay is employed using a finite impulse response (FIR) filter which preserves the AP waveform before the enable signal as well as provides low-pass filtering. The neural recording front-end IC has been designed using standard CMOS 0.18-µm technology occupying a core area of 220 µm by 820 µm.
