Background: Liposuction has emerged as one of the most common cosmetic procedures globally, increasing by more than two-fold since 1997. While different liposuction techniques exist, each with distinct advantages and potential sequelae, a comprehensive comparative analysis of complication rates across various techniques in purely aesthetic cases remains unexplored. We aimed to (1) systematically review the literature on complications of distinctliposuction techniques, and (2) compare complication rates between different techniques. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were searched for studies reporting on complications of isolated cosmetic liposuction techniques in specific anatomical regions. Complication rates were pooled, and heterogeneity was assessed using the I² statistic. Publication bias was evaluated using the Luis Furuya-Kanamori index and Doi plot. Results: Twenty-three studies were included. Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) demonstrated the lowest overall complication rates for hemorrhage, infection, seroma formation, thermal injury, and cutaneous necrosis (all 0.13%). Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) exhibited the highest rates for hemorrhage (0.72%), infection (1.34%), and cutaneous necrosis (0.72%). Radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) showed the highest rates for seroma formation (3.93%) and thermal injuries/blistering (1.64%). Suction-assisted liposuction (SAL) presented the highest rate of cutaneous irregularities (3.36%). Heterogeneity varied widely across complication types and techniques, with I² values ranging from 0 to 91.4%. Conclusions: This study provides the first comprehensive comparison of complication rates across different liposuction techniques in aesthetic cases. LAL demonstrated superior safety profiles, while PAL and RAL showed higher rates for specific complications. These findings can inform surgical decision-making and patient counseling. Cryotherapy, the use of cold temperatures for therapeutic purposes, has long been utilized across medical disciplines for pain management, reducing inflammation, and enhancing recovery. This narrative review aims to evaluate its role within plastic surgery, particularly its effectiveness and safety in improving patient outcomes. Cryotherapy's mechanisms, such as vasoconstriction and inflammation modulation, offer potential advantages in postoperative care, wound healing, and non-invasive aesthetic treatments. Literature reveals its efficacy in managing postoperative pain and reducing swelling, making it particularly beneficial in procedures like rhinoplasty and keloid treatment. Intralesional cryotherapy particularly, shows promise in reducing keloid scar volumes after a single session, offering improved patient satisfaction. Despite these promising applications, cryotherapy remains underutilized within plastic surgery, and research into its broader implementation is limited. Further studies are needed to explore its long-term effects, specific applications in reconstructive surgeries, and to address the challenges of variability in outcomes across different skin types. As non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures gain popularity, cryotherapy may play an increasingly central role in both reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery, offering a low-risk, high-reward option for enhancing patient care. This review identifies gaps in current knowledge and suggests areas for future investigation, positioning cryotherapy as a promising adjunctive therapy within the evolving field of plastic surgery. Among the bacteria most isolated concerning this matter are non-tuberculous Mycobacteria. These patients were diagnosed with Mycobacterium abscessus infections subsequent to undergoing enzyme application procedures. Background: The growing popularity of aesthetic procedures on the face raises the question of their safety. The forehead region is crucial aesthetically, but due to its abundant vascularization, it is also one of the most dangerous areas for dermatologic procedures, especially in the glabella area. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the arterial vascularization of the forehead to identify potential high-risk zones for aesthetic dermatology procedures. Methods: A database search (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase) was conducted, and the titles and abstracts of all identified studies were screened, followed by full-text evaluation. Results: We identified 714 articles during the database search, and 25 articles were included in the review. The included studies used cadaveric dissection and computed tomography applied to cadavers as well as Doppler ultrasonography on volunteers to evaluate the forehead arteries (supratrochlear (STrA), supraorbital (SOA), central (CA), paracentral artery (PCA), and frontal branch of superficial temporal artery(FBSTA)). A total of 1714 cases involving the forehead arteries were analyzed. The included arteries were observed over a relatively large area, and their locations varied. The CA and PCA in cadaver studies were observed in an area of 0.2 to 10.8 mm and 0.8 to 16.2 mm, respectively, on the entire path from the glabellar point to the frontal prominence point. The distances from the midline in cadaveric studies at various measurement points ranged from 0.6 to 28.0 mm for the superficial branch of the STrA and 13.6 to 40.7 mm for the deep branch of STrA. In case of SOA, the distance from the midline ranged from 23 to 32 mm. Measurements from the midline in Doppler studies ranged from 0 to 23 mm for STrA and from 10 to 50 mm for the SOA. In studies using computed tomography, STrA was observed at a distance of 11 to 21 mm and the SOA at a distance of 21 to 32 mm, both lateral to the midline. Conclusions: Medical professionals should be aware of zones where frontal arteries are more likely to be encountered. The glabella region appears to be one of the most dangerous areas for dermatologic procedures. It is believed that the supratrochlear, supraorbital, and the paracentral arteries may cause ophthalmic complications due to occlusion of the ophthalmic artery, while this risk for the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery seems to be low but cannot be completely excluded. Exactly 1096 (13%) of the students underwent a cosmetic procedure. The most reported procedures were laser hair removal (9.1%), filler (5.3%), skin boosters (2.8%), and Botulinum toxin A injections (Botox) (2.6%). Facial anatomy is highly individual in each patient. Anthropometric measurements can be a useful tool to objectively analyze individual facial anatomy to allow for better comparability before and after treatments to ultimately improve standardization of facial procedures, both nonsurgical and surgical. The aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive overview over clinically relevant and feasible facial anthropometric measurements and principles for aesthetic medicine. A literature review was conducted to describe the most important and clinically relevant anthropometric measurements and principles for both the entire face and for three aesthetically relevant facial regions: the periorbital region, the nose, and the perioral region. A multitude of different anthropometric measurements and principles have been described in the literature for both the overall facial appearance and specific facial regions. Certain generally accepted anthropometric principles and proportions need to be respected to achieve aesthetic and harmonious results. For the overall facial appearance, a focus on symmetry, certain proportions, facial angles, and indices has been described. Principles and measurements were also described for the periorbital region, the nose, and the perioral region. Although attractiveness and aesthetic perception are subjective, objective evaluation of facial surface anatomy via anthropometric measurements can improve pre- and postinterventional analysis of the face and help the treating physician to individualize treatments, both nonsurgical and surgical. Introduction and purpose The field of aesthetic medicine has experienced rapid advancement in recent years. It serves primarily aesthetic purposes while also supporting various medical treatments. The range of available aesthetic medicine procedures continues to expand, with numerous studies confirming their therapeutic efficacy in treating certain diseases or conditions. Conversely, a substantial list of contraindications exists, particularly in autoimmune diseases, necessitating caution and precluding the performance of certain aesthetic treatments. Autoimmune diseases entail the body's immune system attacking its tissues, a process whose complete development and maintenance in specific diseases remains incompletely understood. Injection treatments like hyaluronic acid and mesotherapy have demonstrated considerable promise in aiding individuals with autoimmune connective tissue diseases to lead everyday lives. This study discusses to what extent selective aesthetic medical procedures could be safely performed in patients with the most common autoimmune diseases. Material and methods A literature review was conducted through an extensive bibliographic search, primarily focusing on original research articles from reputable databases such as PubMed, BioMed Central, Polish Medical Platform, and Google Scholar. The search was specifically targeted towards articles discussing particular autoimmune diseases and specific aesthetic procedures. Conclusion Established relationships between autoimmune diseases and specific aesthetic medicine treatments have been identified, highlighting their ineffectiveness or inadvisability. In such instances, the physician's extensive knowledge and the necessity for a comprehensive, individually tailored assessment before the procedure often dictate a patient's exclusion from specific therapies.

Introduction: Surgical and non-surgical facial procedures have gained immense popularity thanks to their aesthetic benefits. Understanding the vascularization of the face and assessing potential risks is crucial to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the utility of thermal scanning and Doppler ultrasonography in evaluating the vascular risk for facial procedures. Material and Methods: A cohort of 60 patients were included in this prospective study. Preoperative thermal scanning and Doppler ultrasonography were performed in order to visualize the facial vasculature and identify potential areas of risk. Results: For 30 patients, we performed preprocedural Doppler ultrasound imaging and thermal scanning at the injection site. Only 6.66% of them suffered vascular complications, whilst 23.33% among those who didn’t undergo ultrasound and thermoscanning suffered vascular injuries. The combined use of these tools proved to be valuable in assessing the vascular risk for facial procedures. The findings emphasize the importance of preoperative assessment to identify patients at risk for vascular complications. Conclusions: Thermal scanning and Doppler ultrasonography offer a comprehensive approach to assessing the vascular risk for facial procedures. By ensuring the identification of abnormal vascular patterns and altered blood flow dynamics, these techniques enhance patient safety and procedure planning.

Result: The review delves into the realm of reducing submental fat, presenting a comprehensive analysis of various lipolytic agents used in plastic surgery and dermatology. The introduction establishes the context by defining the key indicators of a youthful neck and emphasizing the significant influence of fat in the aging process, particularly in the submental area. The usage of aminophylline involves subcutaneous injections, facilitating fat breakdown by increasing cyclic adenosine monophosphate and inhibiting adenosine receptors. Hypotonic pharmacologic lipo‐dissolution induces fat dissolution via injected compounds under pressure, while lipolytic lymphatic drainage employs hyaluronidase to reduce tissue viscosity, aiding fat circulation. Glycerophosphorylcholine containing choline alfoscerate claims to activate fat metabolism, whereas the utilization of phosphatidylcholine combined with deoxycholate lacks cosmetic approval due to safety concerns. Deoxycholic acid has FDA approval for submental fat reduction, yet its mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Understanding the complex anatomy and mechanisms of lipolytic agents is essential for safe and effective submental fat reduction, despite evolving practices and off‐label utilization. The field of cosmetic dermatology has been transformed by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, which have improved the precision and efficacy of cosmetic procedures and opened up new possibilities for personalized skincare. AI algorithms can accurately analyze and diagnose skin conditions, leading to objective diagnoses and customized treatment plans. AI also allows for the prediction of treatment outcomes and virtual consultations, enhancing patient-doctor confidence and convenience. However, it is important to address ethical concerns, such as privacy protection and the fair distribution of AI technology. Ultrasonography is a well-tolerated procedure that aids in the targeted esthetic therapies of special cutaneous regions, as well as in the prevention (vascular mapping, identification of previous filler, and others) and management of potential complications (vascular occlusion, external vascular compression, product misplacement or migration, inflammatory reactions, and others). It has lately been promoted as the first-line imaging tool to address injectables. In this article, we aim to review the evolving role of ultrasonography in cosmetic filler procedures, from the fundamental ultrasound characterization of cosmetic fillers to the ultrasound-enhanced detection and management of cosmetic filler complications, including ultrasound's role in hyaluronidase-guided injections for cosmetic filler dissolution. Furthermore, the paper explores the integral role played by ultrasound in enhancing the precision, efficacy, and safety of additional minimally invasive aesthetic techniques such as mesotherapy, radiofrequency, cryolipolysis, and polydioxanone procedures. Currently, iatrogenic allogenosis is a condition recognized throughout the world, especially in Latin America, where the absence of control in the administration of unregulated substances for aesthetic purposes is evident, which has become an emerging problem due to the magnitude of complications, since some products, such as mineral oils, hydrocarbons, industrial silicone, generate serious consequences, both local and systemic, in the body. Many countries have not yet regulated the prohibition of this practice, although every day there are more campaigns to prevent it. However, at the same time the incidence of the disease increases worldwide due to the increase in these aesthetic procedures. In this regard, in Cuba, the growing number of people affected by this cause shows vulnerability in compliance with what has been established to date, that is why it is necessary to establish a legal framework of strict compliance that regulates the injection of modeling substances for aesthetic purposes. Botulinum toxin is a protein deriving from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum and it is widely used for the treatment of a variety of muscle hyperactivity syndromes and for cosmetic indications. Having a long-lasting effect, Botulinum toxin type A (BTA) is one of the most botulin toxin products used. Even if BTA has shown benefits in reducing the vertical lines between the eyebrows, Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) have been experienced as well, of which the most common ones are headache and drooping eyelids. In addition, since other local and systemic risks have been identified, a non-interventional post-authorization safety study (PASS) has been started. The aim of the present study was to report cases of skin toxicity associated with this drug, considering Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) existing on the Eudravigilance website. Among 1464 ICSRs sent to the EV database, 718 ICSRs, including 5154 PTs, reported BTA as a suspected drug associated with cutaneous toxicity. The majority of patients experiencing BTA-induced skin toxicity were female (92.1%) belonging mostly to the age group of 18–64 years. The most serious criteria, when reported, were "Other Medically Important Condition" and "Caused/prolonged hospitalization", although the outcome was mainly reported as "Unknown". The most reported PTs, related to skin disorders, were: "Erythema", "Rash", "Pruritus", "Urticaria", "Swelling face", "Brow ptosis", "Eyelid ptosis", "Injection site pain", and "Angioedema". Considering that in most ICSRs, ADRs related to skin disorders were symptoms of hypersensitivity reactions which in some conditions could be life-threatening, further studies are required to better define the safety profile of BTA used for aesthetic procedures. Botulinum toxin use has become the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure among individuals of all age groups, encompassing both women and men. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) provide the highest level of evidence and quality reporting of their abstracts plays a significant role for health professionals, influencing their decision-making in patient management. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the reporting quality of published RCT abstracts for botulinum toxin aesthetic use in the head area. The CONSORT-A checklist with 17 items was used to assess the quality of reporting. All available RCT abstracts (N = 191) found by searching the Medline database that were published up until June 2023 were included in this study. The average reporting rate was 52.9%. General items were inadequately reported (30.9%), with few abstracts describing the trial design. The methods section was better reported (62.0%), with interventions, objectives, and outcomes properly reported in over 97.5% abstracts. The results section (56.9%) demonstrated good reporting of randomized participant numbers but limited reporting of primary outcomes and harms. None of the abstracts reported funding sources or randomization information. To enhance the transparency and reliability of RCT results, abstracts should adhere more rigorously to the CONSORT-A guidelines. Lip augmentation procedures have become gradually more popular and common due to cultural tendencies and an increasing association of the appearance of the lips with both beauty and youth. Different dermal fillers have been proposed for lip augmentation—such as collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, hyaluronic acid, and polylactic acid—which are used as temporary fillers. The present case report describes the histopathologic and clinical management of one case of HA filler migrating into the intraoral cheek, which caused discomfort by intraoral swelling. There is also a review of the relevant literature. A female patient, V.A., 34 years old, smoker, no allergies to drug and food substances, came to our attention. The patient was referred to the Department of Innovative Technology in Medicine and Dentistry of the University “G. D’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara in Italy by her dentist for the removal of a mass present in the right cheek. The clinical examination of the patient revealed a single mobile mass mimicking a soft tissue tumor in the right anterior cheek. The mass was palpable and approximately 2 cm long and was causing pain and swelling. The mucosa appeared healthy without ulcers. The filler, which had migrated into the cheek, was removed by reaching it with a scalped blade. The material was stored immediately in 10% buffered formalin and processed for histological analysis. The literature search was carried out in accordance with the criteria of the PICO guidelines. Observed histologically, the filler was surrounded by fibroblasts and a few inflammatory cells and giant cells without granuloma formation. The clinical diagnosis was swelling and discomfort caused by chewing trauma, while the histological examination excluded discomfort due to a foreign body reaction caused by the HA used for a lip augmentation procedure. In conclusion, the high-pressure and high-volume filler injections probably caused a detachment of the tissues, with the orbicularis oris muscle concurrently acting as a pump and moving the HA implant, causing migration to the area with low-density tissue such as the cheek.

BACKGROUND: In parallel with the increase in requests for filler injections, reported complications (immediate or delayed and transient or permanent) increased too. CASE REPORT: In the presented case report, a patient reported a delayed complication of filler injection. The complaints of the patient and the objective evaluation revealed the presence of multiple lip nodules, that were painful both spontaneously and at the touch, after 10 years from a lip filler injection. The surgical excision of the neoformations permitted the complete healing of the lesions. The histological analysis showed a not specific pattern, showing a material encapsulated by a tissue reaction, confirming that the possible cause of the multiple injuries could be attributable to the injection received years earlier. CONCLUSIONS: The professional who intends to perform filler injections needs a complete training process, both from a theoretical and practical point of view. However, additional research is required to examine the impact of the pandemic on patients’ overall stress levels and whether this reported stress is associated with an interest in facial aesthetic procedures. We aimed to describe perceived stress and to identify factors associated with increased stress among patients seeking aesthetic treatments during the pandemic.Patients and Methods: Patients coming to a Singapore-based clinic and who completed a questionnaire over a one-month period were included. Stress was evaluated using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS); additional questions sought to understand factors associated with perceived stress and future interest in aesthetic procedures.Results: Two hundred and thirteen respondents participated in the study. Separation from family and inability to travel for leisure were major stressors in 54% and 55%; getting COVID-19 was less frequently a stressor (11%). Patients reported greater concern with appearance (increased worry in 32%, comparison to others in 41%). Ninety-one percent of patients continued aesthetic procedures despite the pandemic and 75% reported interest in proceeding with treatments not previously tried before. PSS scores were higher than published norms. Factors associated with increased scores included residency status, job insecurity and markers of increased concern about appearance. Finally, higher stress scores were observed in patients with greater likelihood of receiving future aesthetic treatments, although this was not statistically significant after applying the Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons.Conclusion: Significantly higher stress scores were seen in patients seeking aesthetic treatments. We identified factors associated with increased stress with a suggested association between increased likelihood of proceeding with any aesthetic procedure and higher levels of stress. • Effective multidrug regimen treats MABC infections after aesthetic procedures. • Adjust parenteral course based on severity for successful MABC infection outcomes. • Susceptibility-guided therapy is crucial in managing MABC infection challenges. Aesthetic procedure-associated infections caused by Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABC) have been an emerging concern. However, limited evidence is available on this topic, and there are no standard treatments. The selection of antimicrobial regimens for the effective treatment of MABC infections poses a significant challenge. In this case series, we present three patients in China who developed MABC infections following various aesthetic procedures. Two patients presented with localized skin and soft tissue infections, whereas one patient developed a disseminated infection. Treatment involved a combination of intravenous amikacin and cefoxitin for more than two weeks, followed by an oral regimen comprising clarithromycin, linezolid, and moxifloxacin based on drug susceptibility testing results. Despite the treatment's efficacy, the patients experienced adverse reactions to the antibiotics, including gastrointestinal symptoms, anaemia, and hearing loss. All patients achieved successful outcomes with shorter treatment courses and no relapse during the 3-year follow-up period. This case series emphasizes the importance of employing appropriate combination antibiotic therapies based on drug susceptibility testing results for aesthetic procedure-associated infection caused by MABC when specific subspecies are unidentified. The combination of intravenous aminoglycosides and cefoxitin, followed by oral sequential therapy, with the course of treatment specifically tailored to the severity of the infection, provides a valuable treatment reference for patients with MABC infections in China. Aesthetic and cosmetic medical practices have attracted considerable consumer attention globally. However, possible complications vary and range from mild, self-resolving ecchymoses or edema to more persistent complications. The aim of this review is to identify the nutritional deficits or excesses associated with the major complications of reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, and mini-invasive aesthetic procedures. An additional goal is to provide a bundle of actions for professionals working in the industry in order to reduce the risks of aesthetic procedures and improve the clinical outcomes. Granulomas, hypertrophic scars and keloids, seromas, infections and xerosis, hyperpigmentation, petechiae, livedo reticularis, slower wound healing, and other poor outcomes are frequently associated with nutritional deficiencies. Nutritional status can markedly affect wound healing and tissue repair following surgical interventions, as well as the outcomes of aesthetic and cosmetic medical practices. Introduction The study was carried out to quantify the changes induced by the pandemic in plastic surgery practice and training and to study the impact of the webinars on plastic surgery education from a residents’ perspective. Methods In this multicentric study, the number and type of surgeries, cause of injuries, and their regional variation during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period (February–September 2020) were compared with pre–COVID-19 time. An online survey on the impact of webinars was conducted for plastic surgery trainees across the country. Results There was a significant reduction in total number of surgeries (p = 0.003). The procedures for hand (p = 0.156), faciomaxillary injuries (p = 0.25), and replantations (p = 0.46) were comparable; there was a significant reduction in combined orthopedic-plastic-surgical procedures (p = 0.009) during the pandemic. There was a significant reduction in road accidents (p = 0.007) and suicidal injuries (p = 0.002) and increase in assault (p = 0.03) and domestic accidents (p = 0.01) during the COVID-19 period. A usefulness score of >8 was given for the webinars by 68.7% residents. There was no significant difference in perception of utility when correlated with the academic program at their institutes (p = 0.109); 92% opined webinars should continue in post-COVID times. Conclusion There was a drastic reduction in number of elective and emergency procedures during the COVID-19 time, negatively affecting resident training program. Majority of residents felt that webinars could prove a useful adjunct to training in formal training program in post-COVID-19 scenario.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has generated favorable results in treating a diversity of wounds, inflammation, and infection.Case Presentations: Three cases with complications arising from aesthetic procedures were described in this report. The patients were all female, with ages ranging from the late-twenties to mid-fifties. Two patients experienced complications from filler injections, one of which progressed to a parotid gland infection due to a placental extract filler while the other was caused by a hyaluronic acid filler. The third patient had notable excoriations and inflammation on both cheeks following a thread lift procedure. Alongside antibiotics and other symptomatic therapies, the patients received multiple, 90-minute HBOT sessions at 2.4 ATA over the course of one to two weeks. The wounds were frequently monitored to evaluate the healing progress.Discussion: Complications from facial rejuvenation procedures can be disastrous. They expose the patient to the risk of developing vascular occlusions and skin infections that require prompt and effective treatment. Multiple treatment options (eg, frequently massaging the affected area, warm compresses, aspirin, and antibiotics) have been used to treat these complications. HBOT serves a valuable purpose in restoring adequate tissue perfusion in cases of filler-induced vascular occlusion and infection. Moreover, HBOT assists in restoring tissue injury and reducing inflammation following thread lift procedures.Conclusion: HBOT has proven helpful as a treatment adjunct toward counteracting the effects of minimally invasive aesthetic procedures in several cosmetic-related cases.Keywords: hyperbaric oxygen therapy, filler injection, thread lift, complications, aesthetic procedures

Background. Invasive aesthetic medicine is associated with various rehabilitation manifestations: hematomas, edema, pain after the procedure. Hematomas are an unpleasant, but often inevitable for the patient. In this case, hematomas appear when a vessel is directly injured by a needle during the procedure, which is always associated with skin trauma and an increased risk of infection. Aim. Application of an effective treatment regimen without pronounced side effects for minimizing rehabilitation phenomena after aesthetic procedures. Materials and methods. The study involved 50 patients, 25 of whom received anti hematoma therapy with external and systemic forms of Arnica montana (Boiron) before and after the procedure. 25 remaining (control group) did not receive therapy before the procedure, as well as during rehabilitation after the procedure. The analysis of the course of the rehabilitation period was assessed using a questionnaire, which contained questions on assessing the degree of intensity of such adverse events after the procedure as pain, edema, hyperemia, the size of hematomas according to a scale from 0 to 5, where 0 no manifestations, 5 significantly pronounced manifestations. Results. An analysis of many clinical cases shows the effectiveness of antihematoma therapy with Arnica montana preparations in various forms [Arnica montana C9 (Boiron) and Arnigel] before and after procedure, manifested in a faster resolution of hematomas, a decrease in edema, a decrease in pain after the procedure, as well as an overall reduction in the rehabilitation period by at least 23 days compared with the course of rehabilitation without the appointment of anti-hematoma therapy. Conclusion. Based on the above data, confirmed by numerous studies, we can conclude about the effectiveness of prescribing Arnica drugs [Arnica montana C9 (Boiron) and Arnigel] before and after invasive aesthetic procedures.

Botulinum toxin use has become the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure among individuals of all age groups, encompassing both women and men. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) provide the highest level of evidence and quality reporting of their abstracts plays a significant role for health professionals, influencing their decision-making in patient management. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the reporting quality of published RCT abstracts for botulinum toxin aesthetic use in the head area. The CONSORT-A checklist with 17 items was used to assess the quality of reporting. All available RCT abstracts (N = 191) found by searching the Medline database that were published up until June 2023 were included in this study. The average reporting rate was 52.9%. General items were inadequately reported (30.9%), with few abstracts describing the trial design. The methods section was better reported (62.0%), with interventions, objectives, and outcomes properly reported in over 97.5% abstracts. The results section (56.9%) demonstrated good reporting of randomized participant numbers but limited reporting of primary outcomes and harms. None of the abstracts reported funding sources or randomization information. To enhance the transparency and reliability of RCT results, abstracts should adhere more rigorously to the CONSORT-A guidelines. The rapid developments in aesthetic medicine and the exaggerated results promised on the social media platform drive people to spend considerable budgets on such procedures to look more beautiful. Individuals often work extra jobs, take out bank loans, or borrow from friends to be able to pay for the prices that exceed what they can afford. This study is a survey designed to feel the pulse of the community on the economic aspect of aesthetic procedures. The study was carried out during March 30 to April 30, 2019, in the province of Bursa. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with participants selected based on the socioeconomic status and age according to the data of the Turkish Researchers' Association and the Turkish Statistical Institute. The distribution by age statistical data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute for the province of Bursa was taken as the base in the selection of the participants. The survey was conducted with women as they undergo more aesthetic procedures and drive the cosmetic industry. Five hundred women, half of whom had undergone aesthetic intervention, were asked 15 questions to understand their viewpoint on the economic aspect of aesthetic procedures. The questions asked to all participants, i.e., those who had and had not undergone aesthetic intervention, were structured as easy-to-understand phrases without specifically guiding the participants and with clear response options such as “yes,” “no,” and “I have no idea.” The participants could also elaborate on their response using free text. The results were shown in percentile. Intra-analysis and cross-analysis were performed to interpret the results. The results of our study suggest that people tend to push the limits of their budget for aesthetic procedures. More importantly, however, the study showed that aesthetic procedures are often performed at incompetent centers. Most of those who have undergone a procedure in such places are of high education and economic levels, i.e., of high socioeconomic status (A and B) with undergraduate or postgraduate degree, which depicts a hard-to-understand and a troubling picture.

Background Cosmetic procedures have become increasingly popular worldwide; however, male participation remains relatively low, especially in conservative societies like Saudi Arabia. This study explores the awareness, attitudes, and experiences of men concerning aesthetic procedures in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on sociodemographic factors and sources of information. This study aimed to assess male awareness, attitudes, and experiences with aesthetic procedures in Saudi Arabia and identify factors influencing their engagement with these interventions. Methodology A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 818 male participants from various regions in Saudi Arabia. Data on sociodemographic profiles, awareness levels, and attitudes toward cosmetic procedures were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression models were used for data analysis performed using SPSS version 26 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results The study found that 504 (61.6%) participants had never undergone a cosmetic procedure. The most common reasons for not undergoing such procedures included the social image of men (198, 39.2%), cost (145, 28.7%), and no health issues requiring aesthetic intervention (66, 13.1%). Awareness of cosmetic procedures was relatively low, with 223 (27.3%) participants rating their awareness as "low" and 101 (12.3%) as "very low." Social media (333, 40.7%), physicians (211, 25.8%), and television (144, 17.6%) were the primary sources of information. Significant factors influencing attitudes included age, education level, employment status, and marital status, all of which had a significant p-value below 0.05. Conclusions Awareness and acceptance of cosmetic procedures among Saudi males are increasing, influenced by various cultural, societal, and personal factors. This study highlights the need for targeted campaigns and education to promote understanding and acceptance. Background: Cosmetic dermatological procedures are increasingly popular worldwide, reflecting changing societal norms and technological advancements. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and patterns of cosmetic procedures in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, and to explore related demographic, psychological, and attitudinal factors., Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 439 participants from Jazan. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, psychological and dermatological conditions, experiences with cosmetic procedures, and attitudes towards them. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis., Results: Among the participants, 103 (23.5%) reported having undergone cosmetic dermatological procedures. The majority of these individuals were aged 18-30 years (394, 89.7%) and had attained a diploma or bachelor's degree (237, 54.0%). Satisfaction with procedures varied, with 12 (2.7%) dissatisfied and 52 (11.8%) satisfied. Future intentions to undergo cosmetic procedures were expressed by 62 (14.1%) of participants. Attitudes towards cosmetic procedures included concerns about unrealistic beauty standards (221, 50.5%) and perceptions of affluence (256, 58.3%)., Conclusions: The study reveals a notable prevalence of cosmetic procedures in Jazan, with younger and more educated individuals showing higher engagement. While satisfaction levels are generally positive, diverse attitudes reflect ongoing debates about beauty standards and societal impacts. The rapid growth of non-surgical aesthetics has led to a scarcity of regulation that raises concerns for serious consequences to public health. Services are advertised primarily through websites which are not necessarily centrally monitored or maintained to a set gold standard. We quantitatively assess the quality of online information regarding non-surgical procedures in order to promote patient safety and informed decision making. Google and Bing, search engines that represent 95.27of global searches, were queried with the expanded search terms "facial filler" and "Botox". The top 100 results were sampled and two validated tools were used to assess the quality of healthcare information retrieved; the DISCERN instrument and the JAMA benchmark criteria. Once duplicates were removed, a total of 77 unique websites were retrieved by the search. The majority of websites were published by private marketing firms. The median score for website quality across all included websites was 'fair' (42) when assessed according to the DISCERN instrument, and 'poor' (1) when assessed against the JAMA criteria. Private websites had the lowest quality of information online and institutional websites had the highest. Non-surgical aesthetics are becoming increasingly popular with patients and clinicians due to their convenience, scope of treatment, and novel and strategic marketing. Online information available to patients, however, is often of poor quality, dominated by private clinics and commercial entities, and thus presents a significant risk of misinforming patients desiring to undertake these procedures. The field of aesthetic medicine is a trend in modern medicine and nowadays patients not only want to be healthy, they also want to enjoy life, be fit and minimize the effects of physiological aging. Societal acceptance of aesthetic procedures is increasing and desire to improve the external appearance may be related to the extensive media coverage which basically increases the considered benefits. Young patients should understand that results of surgical aesthetical procedures may lead to permanent change. A complete assessment of reason why the young patient wishes to have the procedure, and what difference the patient thinks it will make to his/her life, should be undertaken. Poor psychological outcomes are possible and unrealistic expectations may should warn the doctor against procedure until the patient is emotionally mature and may need a psychological referral in order to maintain the psychosocial health and improve the quality of life. The questions asked to all participants, i.e., those who had and had not undergone aesthetic intervention, were structured as easy-to-understand phrases without specifically guiding the participants and with clear response options such as "yes," "no," and "I have no idea." The participants could also elaborate on their response using free text. The results were shown in percentile. Intra-analysis and cross-analysis were performed to interpret the results. The results of our study suggest that people tend to push the limits of their budget for aesthetic procedures. More importantly, however, the study showed that aesthetic procedures are often performed at incompetent centers. Most of those who have undergone a procedure in such places are of high education and economic levels, i.e., of high socioeconomic status (A and B) with undergraduate or postgraduate degree, which depicts a hard-to-understand and a troubling picture. Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have been increasingly identified as causative of numerous cosmetic procedure related infections worldwide. This manuscript reports clinical aspects and antimicrobial resistance profiles of NTM infections associated with aesthetic procedures diagnosed in a private infectious disease clinic in the Brazilian Amazon. Four patients developed skin and soft tissue infections between August 2015 and August 2019. Clinical, microbiological, and epidemiological data were collected. M. conceptionense, M. abscessus and M. fortuitum were isolated. The histopathology showed dermal granulomatous inflammation. All patients were treated with a combination of antimycobacterial regimens, mainly with moxifloxacin and clarithromycin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Until vaccination for the SARS‐CoV‐2 becomes a reality, it appears that the infection is here to stay. With many countries lifting lockdown restrictions, aesthetic clinics have started reopening with strict standard operating procedures in place. It is pertinent that the physician today understands the infection, disinfection measures, and personal protective equipment to reduce chances of viral transmission and provide safe clinical settings for oneself, the staff and the patients. An online meeting of eight experts in the field of aesthetic dermatology was convened, which particularly focussed on PPE in detail, risk categorization of aesthetic procedures, preprocedure recommendations, and generalized and specialized SOP's for aesthetic procedures. These recommendations were aimed to bridge the gap between published guidelines and clinical practice and are by no means fully conclusive, but signify learnings over the past few months in an active clinical aesthetic practice. The importance placed on physical attractiveness, combined with the pervasiveness of idealised bodies and appearances in Western societies, may result in dissatisfaction with appearance. Subsequently, individuals may explore methods and ways to alter their appearance in line with societal beauty ideals. An increasingly popular method of body modification is via aesthetic procedures. Moebius syndrome is a congenital neurological disorder that impacts facial expression, communication and appearance. In this article, the authors will discuss the psychological and social impacts of living with this rare form of facial palsy. Existing research suggests that patients may face challenges in developing psychological wellbeing, positive body image and in communicating effectively with others. Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions associated with many adverse health and quality of life outcomes. Yet, eating disorders are frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated and numerous barriers to their diagnosis and treatment have identified. Surprisingly, although negative body image is a well-established risk factor for eating disorder onset and is common across eating disorder profiles, limited research has explored eating disorders in aesthetic procedure settings. While more research is required, it is possible that people with undiagnosed and/or untreated eating disorders may present for aesthetic procedures. In light of this, as well as the severity of eating disorders, it is advised that aesthetic practitioners possess a comprehensive understanding of eating disorders. Furthermore, gaining a deeper understanding of eating disorders can improve ethical practice; it is recommended that aesthetic practitioners explore and establish screening guidelines and referral processes for patients with suspected eating disorders. Objective: This study aimed to characterize the adipocytolytic procedures and correlate the phases of the inflammatory process with the results obtained from such procedures, in order to clarify the role of inflammation triggered by the adipocytolytic procedures and its relation with the lipolytic process, with a focus on body shaping. Methods: This work is an integrative literature review that presents a total of 72 articles published between 1998 and 2015, derived from the PubMed database, in order to establish a relationship between clinical and basic science research, assuming an important role in medical practice based on evidence. Results: The results show that the adipocytolytic procedures are characterized by triggering inflammation arising from the disruption of adipocytes by interfering with the lipolytic signaling pathways in both acute and chronic phases of inflammation through the direct action of proinflammatory cytokines or catecholamines. Therefore, inflammation plays an important role in modulating the lipolytic process, influencing body shaping. Conclusion: The inflammatory process assists the adipolytic process in all stages of inflammation, contributing to the reduction of body contouring. Objective: Dermal fillers are an important tool in the field of aesthetic dermatology. Fillers are relatively noninvasive and easy to use but are not free of secondary complications. The main complications are vascular and are due to either the compression of an artery or the direct introduction of the product into the arterial lumen. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the vascular territories of the face to avoid many possible complications when using facial fillings. Anatomical localization of the main arterial supply to the face has been described to assess the risk of vascular injury.Methods: The authors dissected 17 hemifaces of embalmed adult cadavers that had previously been injected, through the common carotid artery, with latex containing a red dye.Results: A topographic distribution was generated by facial regions following a clinical approach from where the facial fillings were placed and related to the pathways of the arteries. Following these criteria, we established 8 topographic regions (I-VIII) that indicate the main vascular problems of each of these regions. Detailed anatomical localizations of the main arteries in these topographic regions of the face and their relationships are described.Conclusions: The highest index of vascular lesions and especially visual alterations occurred for fillings of the upper third of the face. To prevent and avoid this type of lesion, it is advisable to avoid, as much as possible, treatments with filling materials in the upper third of the face, mainly including the glabellar and nasal region (III) and supraorbital region (VIII).
