Fish domestication progresses through five levels: from the initial acclimatization to captivity (Level 1), to the life cycle completion in captivity (Level 4), and even to the implementation of selective breeding programs (Level 5). Domestication leads to phenotypic changes over generations, sometimes from the very first generation. Behavioral traits are among the first to change. However, in fish, potential behavioral changes during early domestication have been little studied. Therefore, we studied potential behavioral changes among early and advanced levels of domestication in a model species, the zebrafish (Danio rerio), using a mirror test experiment, commonly used to assess traits involved in activity, aggressiveness, and stress in this species. We compared these traits between wild zebrafish in captivity (F0; Level 1), the first generation of their captive-born offspring (F1; Level 4), and three laboratory strains (AB, TU, and WIK; Level 5). Each fish was individually filmed and tracked using an automated procedure for 5 min. Nine behavioral traits and one activity-related trait were characterized for each individual based on the movements and positioning of the fish. We applied a principal component analysis (PCA) and tested the significance of potential differences between groups using an analysis of similarities (ANOSIM). We applied an indicator value analysis (IndVal) to determine which traits were most expressed by each group. We detected differences between groups and across domestication levels. More specifically, we highlighted differentiations between different levels of domestication (e.g. between F1, AB, TU, and WIK) as early as the beginning of the domestication process (i.e. F0 vs. F1), but also within the same level of domestication (i.e. AB vs. TU). Based on PCA and IndVal, (i) F0 and F1 tended to show stronger expression of stress-related traits than the other groups, (ii) F0 was more active than others, and (iii) TU was more aggressive than AB. Our results confirmed that domestication can change fish behavior, even in the first generation born in captivity, although these modifications remain limited. In contrast, we did not observe any general trends correlated with domestication levels, given that AB and TU diverged in their aggressiveness levels, and WIK differed only from F1. This result needs to be generalized to other species but also considered for domestication for aquaculture. If future studies confirm that the changes observed at the beginning of the domestication process remain limited and that there is no consistent evolutionary trend across generations in fish, this would highlight the crucial importance of selecting the right species from the outset of domestication. It would also emphasize the need to design selective breeding programs that shape fish stocks with the most desirable characteristics. Potato production in Mexico is affected by Rhizoctonia solani, causing severe yield losses. The most important criterion for distinguishing R. solani isolates is differentiation by anastomosis groups (AGs). However, the limitations of traditional AG differentiation have prompted the use of DNA sequence analysis as a valuable tool for distinguishing AGs. This study aimed to determine the diversity of anastomosis groups and the aggressiveness of R. solani isolates collected from commercial potato fields in northern Sinaloa, Mexico. A total of 118 R. solani isolates were obtained from symptomatic sprouts and tubers collected from 32 commercial fields distributed in the municipalities of Ahome, Guasave and El Fuerte in northern Sinaloa, Mexico. Fifty-two representative isolates were selected for anastomosis group determination and pathogenicity tests. Phylogenetic analysis with rpb2 gene sequences clearly distinguished 30 isolates belonging to AG-3 PT and 22 isolates to AG-4 HGI. The aggressiveness of these R. solani isolates was evaluated using mini-tubers of potato cv. Fianna, and colonized rice grains were used as inoculum source. The disease severity caused by R. solani on potato plants was evaluated 40 days after emergence. Aggressiveness was estimated as the percentage of necrotic area on underground stems. The results revealed that all R. solani isolates were pathogenic and differences were observed in aggressiveness among the isolates. Of the total of 52 isolates evaluated, 7% were highly aggressive; 61% had intermediate aggressiveness; and 32% exhibited low aggressiveness. These findings regarding the diversity of anastomosis groups and the aggressiveness of R. solani isolates in northern Sinaloa are fundamental for subsequent epidemiology and fungicide resistance studies. Our study explores the role of cancer-derived extracellular exosomes (EXs), particularly focusing on collagen alpha-3 (VI; COL6A3), in facilitating tumor dissemination and metastasis in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). We found that COL6A3 is expressed in aggressive ES2 derivatives, SKOV3 overexpressing COL6A3 (SKOV3/COL6A3), and mesenchymal-type ovarian carcinoma stromal progenitor cells (MSC-OCSPCs), as well as their EXs, but not in less aggressive SKOV3 cells or ES2 cells with COL6A3 knockdown (ES2/shCOL6A3). High COL6A3 expression correlates with worse overall survival among EOC patients, as evidenced by TCGA and GEO data analysis. In vitro experiments showed that EXs from MSC-OCSPCs or SKOV3/COL6A3 cells significantly enhance invasion ability in ES2 or SKOV3/COL6A3 cells, respectively (both, p <0.001). In contrast, ES2 cells with ES2/shCOL6A3 EXs exhibited reduced invasion ability (p < 0.001). In vivo, the average disseminated tumor numbers in the peritoneal cavity were significantly greater in mice receiving intraperitoneally injected SKOV3/COL6A3 cells than in SKOV3 cells (p < 0.001). Furthermore, mice intravenously (IV) injected with SKOV3/COL6A3 cells and SKOV3/COL6A3-EXs showed increased lung colonization compared to mice injected with SKOV3 cells and PBS (p = 0.007) or SKOV3/COL6A3 cells and PBS (p = 0.039). The potential of subdominant ants of the Formica fusca group and their role in forests are still underestimated. Since ant behaviour is dependent on colony size, studying the functional organisation of nest complexes (NC) is most promising for a more accurate assessment of species capabilities. The study focused on the main ecological and ethological issues of the life activity of Formica lemani Bondroit within large NC (>150 nests) and beyond. After preliminary mapping of the F. lemani NC (main nests, trails, foraging trees), off-nest activity, aggressiveness, and trophobiotic relationships with aphids in and outside the NC territory were studied. Within the NC, the dynamic density, the intensity of movement on trails, and aggressiveness of F. lemani were significantly higher than beyond; the range of symbiont aphids was twice as small, with aphids on birches playing a key role in carbohydrate nutrition of F. lemani. The latter ensures accelerated restoration of trophobiotic interactions in spring and stability of the food supply until autumn. Combined with the lack of pressure from F. rufa group ants, this allowed F. lemani to maintain high population densities, and significantly increased its competitiveness, and role in plant protection against phytophages. Background: Introducing new liver transplantation (LT) practices, like unconventional donor use, incurs higher costs, making evaluation of their prognostic justification crucial. This study reexamines the spread pattern of new LT practices and its prognosis across the United States. Methods: The study investigated the spread pattern of new practices using the UNOS database (2014–2023). Practices included LT for hepatitis B/C (HBV/HCV) nonviremic recipients with viremic donors, LT for COVID‐19‐positive recipients, and LT using onsite machine perfusion (OMP). One year post‐LT patient and graft survival were also evaluated. Results: LTs using HBV/HCV donors were common in the East, while LTs for COVID‐19 recipients and those using OMP started predominantly in California, Arizona, Texas, and the Northeast. K‐means cluster analysis identified three adoption groups: facilities with rapid, slow, and minimal adoption rates. Rapid adoption occurred mainly in high‐volume centers, followed by a gradual increase in middle‐volume centers, with little increase in low‐volume centers. The current spread patterns did not significantly affect patient survival. Specifically, for LTs with HCV donors or COVID‐19 recipients, patient and graft survivals in the rapid‐increasing group was comparable to others. In LTs involving OMP, the rapid‐ or slow‐increasing groups tended to have better patient survival (p = 0.05) and significantly improved graft survival rates (p = 0.02). Facilities adopting new practices often overlap across different practices. Discussion: Our analysis revealed three distinct adoption groups across all practices, correlating the adoption aggressiveness with LT volume in centers. Aggressive adoption of new practices did not compromise patient and graft survivals, supporting the current strategy. Background: Ki-67 immunostaining is commonly used in neuroendocrine tumors to estimate the proliferative index and for grading. This study investigates its association with the invasiveness of follicular-derived thyroid carcinomas (TCs). Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with TC at three McGill University teaching hospitals between January 2018 and November 2023 was conducted. The inclusion criteria included patients with malignant thyroid tumors and accessible Ki-67 LI data from final pathology specimens. The data collected included patient demographics, Ki-67 LI values, and different invasiveness attributes, such as molecular mutations, the histological subtype, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), extrathyroidal extension (ETE), and positive lymph nodes (LNs). Results: In total, 212 patients met the inclusion criteria, of which 80.7% were females and 19.3% were males. The Ki-67 LI ranged from 1% to 30%, with the majority of the cases within the range of 1–15%. A significant association was observed between higher Ki-67 LI and high-risk histological subtypes of thyroid carcinoma (p < 0.001). Similarly, Ki-67 LI was significantly associated with LVI and positive LN metastasis (p < 0.001 and p = 0.036, respectively). However, no significant association was found between the Ki-67 LI and gene mutations or ETE (p = 0.133 and p = 0.190, respectively). Using percentiles to establish a cutoff, patients with a Ki-67 LI higher than 6.7 showed a higher likelihood of being associated with invasive features. Conclusion: Elevated Ki-67 LI can serve as an indicator of aggressiveness in follicular-derived TC, especially when associated with distinct histological subtypes, LVI and positive LNs. Due to the high reproductive investment, females are the decisive sex when making decisions about whether or not to reproduce. Generally, female scorpions display aggressive sexual behavior in response to male reproductive advances when they are not receptive. However, female receptivity can vary over time, depending on environmental factors favorable to reproduction Thus, the current study aimed to examine the correlation between the number of reproductive attempts by male Tityus pusillus scorpion and mating success over time, considering the female's behavioral response. Behavioral analyses were monthly conducted on 150 T. pusillus field-caught pairs over a five-month period. Our results indicate that despite females reacting aggressively to male advances, the persistence of the male has a positive effect in courtship probability. Furthermore, we observed variations in female behavior throughout the studied period, suggesting that female receptivity might be linked to the reproductive season. Root rot caused by Fusarium spp. is a significant issue in the chickpea-growing regions of Montana. The specific Fusarium species responsible for the disease and their prevalence remain uncertain. A survey was conducted in 2020 and 2021 to identify Montana's Fusarium species associated with chickpea. Four hundred and twenty-six Fusarium isolates were recovered from symptomatic chickpea roots across ten counties in the state. Isolates were identified by comparing translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF1-α) sequences in the FUSARIUM-ID database. Among the recovered isolates, Fusarium oxysporum was the most prevalent species (33%), followed by F. acuminatum (21%), F. avenaceum (15%), F. redolens (14%), F. culmorum (6%), F. sporotrichioides (6%), Neocosmospora solani (6%), F. equiseti (2%), F. torulosum (0.9%), F. gamsii (0.8%), F. proliferatum (0.2%), F. pseudograminearum (0.2%), and F. brachygibbosum (0.1%). The aggressiveness of a subset of 51 isolates representing various Fusarium spp. was tested on chickpea cv. 'CDC Frontier'. A non-parametric variance analysis conducted on disease severity ranks indicated that F. avenaceum isolates were highly aggressive. This study reports for the first time that F. gamsii, F. proliferatum and F. brachygibbosum are causal agents of root rot in chickpea in the United States. This knowledge is invaluable for making informed decisions regarding crop rotation, disease management, and developing resistant chickpea varieties against economically significant Fusarium pathogens. Context Telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter (TERT- p) mutations, which upregulate TERT expression, are strongly associated with tumor aggressiveness and worse prognosis in papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). TERT expression is also observed in a proportion of PTCs without TERT -p mutations, but such tumors show less aggressiveness and better prognosis than TERT- p mutation–positive tumors. Objective TERT has multiple splicing variants whose relationships with the TERT- p status and clinicopathological characteristics remain poorly understood. We examined the relationship between the TERT -p mutational status, the TERT splicing pattern, and clinicopathological features. Methods We investigated the expression of 2 major variants, α deletion (dA) and β deletion (dB), in a series of 207 PTCs operated on between November 2001 and March 2020 in Nagasaki University Hospital and Kuma Hospital. Results The TERT -p mutations were found in 33 cases, and among 174 mutation-negative cases, 24 showed TERT expression. All cases were classified into 3 groups: the TERT -p mutation–negative/expression–negative group (mut−/exp−), the TERT -p mutation–negative/expression–positive group (mut−/exp+), and the TERT -p mutation–positive group (mut+/exp+). The +A+B/dB ratio in mut+/exp+ was significantly higher than that in mut−/exp+ PTCs. Analysis with clinicopathological data revealed that +A+B expression was associated with higher PTC aggressiveness, whereas dB expression counteracted this effect. Functional in vitro study demonstrated that dB strongly inhibited cell growth, migration, and clonogenicity, suggesting its tumor-suppressive role. Conclusion These results provide evidence that the TERT -p mutations alter the expression of different TERT splice variants, which, in turn, associates with different tumor aggressiveness. It remains unclear if pre‐diagnostic factors influence the developmental pathways of colorectal cancer (CRC) that could enhance tumor aggressiveness. This study used prospective data from 205,489 cancer‐free US health professionals to investigate the associations of 31 known or putative risk factors with the risk of aggressive CRC. Tumor aggressiveness was characterized by three endpoints: aggressive CRC (cancer that causes death within 5 years of diagnosis), fatal CRC, and tumor stage at diagnosis. The data augmentation method was used to assess the difference in the associations between risk factors and endpoints. We documented 3201 CRC cases, of which 899 were aggressive. The protective associations of undergoing lower endoscopy (hazard ratios [HR] 0.43, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.37, 0.49 for aggressive versus HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.56, 0.67 for non‐aggressive) and regular use of aspirin (HR 0.70, 95% CI 0.61, 0.81 versus HR 0.84, 95% CI 0.77, 0.92) were stronger for aggressive than non‐aggressive CRC (pHeterogeneity <0.05). Lower intake of whole grains or cereal fiber and greater dietary inflammatory potential were associated with a higher risk of aggressive but not non‐aggressive CRC. The remaining risk factors showed comparable associations with aggressive CRC and non‐aggressive CRC. Aggressive cases were more likely to have KRAS‐mutated tumors but less likely to have distal or MSI‐high tumors (p <.007). Similar results were observed for fatal CRC and advanced tumor stages at diagnosis. These findings provide initial evidence for the role of pre‐diagnostic risk factors in the pathogenesis of aggressive CRC and suggest research priorities for preventive interventions. Abstract Background Circulating total insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is an established risk factor for prostate cancer. However, only a small proportion of circulating IGF-I is free or readily dissociable from IGF-binding proteins (its bioavailable form), and few studies have investigated the association of circulating free IGF-I with prostate cancer risk. Methods We analyzed data from 767 prostate cancer cases and 767 matched controls nested within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort, with an average of 14-years (interquartile range = 2.9) follow-up. Matching variables were study center, length of follow-up, age, and time of day and fasting duration at blood collection. Circulating free IGF-I concentration was measured in serum samples collected at recruitment visit (mean age 55 years old; standard deviation = 7.1) using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Conditional logistic regressions were performed to examine the associations of free IGF-I with risk of prostate cancer overall and subdivided by time to diagnosis (≤ 14 and > 14 years), and tumor characteristics. Results Circulating free IGF-I concentrations (in fourths and as a continuous variable) were not associated with prostate cancer risk overall (odds ratio [OR] = 1.00 per 0.1 nmol/L increment, 95% CI: 0.99, 1.02) or by time to diagnosis, or with prostate cancer subtypes, including tumor stage and histological grade. Conclusions Estimated circulating free IGF-I was not associated with prostate cancer risk. Further research may consider other assay methods that estimate bioavailable IGF-I to provide more insight into the well-substantiated association between circulating total IGF-I and subsequent prostate cancer risk.

The prevalence of aggressive behavior in traffic represents a pressing issue in contemporary society. In recent times, there has been a notable surge in aggressive conduct among drivers, ranging from excessive honking to involvement in road accidents. The statistical data regarding accident rates in Romania and the Republic of Moldova underscore the necessity of investigating the underlying causes of this behavioral deviation among drivers and devising strategies for revention or intervention to mitigate this maladaptive behavior. This article presents the findings of an experimental study examining two variables that may influence the occurrence and expression of aggressive behavior among drivers in traffic: religious affiliation and level of driver education. The experimental hypothesis tested is as follows: We posit that statistically significant differences exist in the level of aggressive behavior exhibited in traffic—such as aggressive driving, dangerous driving, and risky driving—depending on the drivers’ level of education and their religious affiliation.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) stands as the second most prevalent skin cancer in dogs, primarily attributed to UV radiation exposure. Affected areas typically include regions with sparse hair and pale or depigmented skin. The significance of spontaneous canine cutaneous SCC as a model for its human counterpart is underscored by its resemblance. This study assesses the expression of key markers—Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), Cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2), and Ki-67—in canine cutaneous SCC. Our objective is to investigate the association between their expression levels and classical clinicopathological parameters, unraveling the intricate relationships among these molecular markers. In our retrospective analysis of 37 cases, EGFR overexpression manifested in 43.2% of cases, while Cox-2 exhibited overexpression in 97.3%. The EGFR, Cox-2 overexpression, and Ki-67 proliferation indices, estimated through immunohistochemistry, displayed a significant association with the histological grade, but only EGFR labeling is associated with the presence of lymphovascular emboli. The Ki-67 labeling index expression exhibited an association with EGFR and Cox-2. These findings propose that EGFR, Cox-2, and Ki-67 hold promise as valuable markers in canine SCC. EGFR, Cox-2, and Ki-67 may serve as indicators of disease progression, offering insights into the malignancy of a lesion. The implications extend to the potential therapeutic targeting of EGFR and Cox-2 in managing canine SCC. Further exploration of these insights is warranted due to their translational relevance and the development of targeted interventions in the context of canine SCC.

Abstract Purpose The Gleason score (GS) and positive needles are crucial aggressive indicators of prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics models in predicting GS and positive needles of systematic biopsy in PCa. Material and Methods A total of 218 patients with pathologically proven PCa were retrospectively recruited from 2 centers. Small-field-of-view high-resolution T2-weighted imaging and post-contrast delayed sequences were selected to extract radiomics features. Then, analysis of variance and recursive feature elimination were applied to remove redundant features. Radiomics models for predicting GS and positive needles were constructed based on MRI and various classifiers, including support vector machine, linear discriminant analysis, logistic regression (LR), and LR using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. The models were evaluated with the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver-operating characteristic. Results The 11 features were chosen as the primary feature subset for the GS prediction, whereas the 5 features were chosen for positive needle prediction. LR was chosen as classifier to construct the radiomics models. For GS prediction, the AUC of the radiomics models was 0.811, 0.814, and 0.717 in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. For positive needle prediction, the AUC was 0.806, 0.811, and 0.791 in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. Conclusions MRI radiomics models are suitable for predicting GS and positive needles of systematic biopsy in PCa. The models can be used to identify aggressive PCa using a noninvasive, repeatable, and accurate diagnostic method.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the trends of aggressive care at the end-of-life (EoL) for patients with advanced cancer in Korea and to identify factors affecting such care analyzing nationwide data between 2012 to 2018. Methods: This was a population-based, retrospective nationwide study. We used administrative data from the National Health Insurance Service and the Korea Central Cancer Registry to analyze 125,350 patients aged 20 years and above who died within one year of a stage IV cancer diagnosis between 2012 and 2018. Results: The overall aggressiveness of EoL care decreased between 2012 and 2018. In patients' last month of life, chemotherapy use (37.1% to 32.3%; p < 0.05), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (13.2% to 10.4%; p < 0.05), and intensive care unit admission (15.2% to 11.1%; p < 0.05) decreased during the study period, although no significant trend was noted in the number of emergency room visits. A steep increase was seen in inpatient hospice use in the last month of life (8.6% to 26.6%; p < 0.05), while downward trends were observed for hospice admission within three days prior to death (13.9% to 11%; p < 0.05). Patients were more likely to receive aggressive EoL care if they were younger, women, had treatment in tertiary hospitals, or had hematologic malignancies. In the subgroup analysis, the overall trend of aggressive EoL care decreased for all five major cancer types. Complex cannibalism (CxC) is an emerging new seeming entity in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) embody as a prime metabolic event in determining the aggressive potential. Owing to paucity in literature regarding it, the aim of the present study to deciphering the occurrence of CxC in OSCC. Further, the expression of cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68) was studied in tumor cells and correlated with CxC to ascertain the biological behaviour of OSCC. 30 Hematoxylin and Eosin stained sections of various grades of OSCC were scanned for CxC and correlated with clinicopathological parameters. Immunohistochemical analysis using CD68 was performed. While observing CxC in OSCC, statistically significant in age (p-0.048) and histological grades (p-0.004). CD68 expression in tumor cells was statistically significant in histopathological grades (p < 0.001) whereas on correlating with CxC (p − 0.171) was non-significant. The analogous rise in CxC and CD68 with increasing histopathological grades could aid in recognising CxC as a precise histopathological parameter to assess the aggressive biological potential in OSCC. Seventy-eight Rhizoctonia isolates were obtained from brassicas in five Brazilian states between 2015 and 2017. The isolates were identified by phylogenetic analysis of the rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and tested for pathogenicity and aggressiveness. Sixty-eight isolates were identified as R. solani and 10 isolates as binucleate Rhizoctonia. The most prevalent anastomosis group (AG) was AG-4 HG-I (83.3% of isolates), followed by AG-A (7.7%), AG-1 IB (2.6%), AG-G (2.6%), AG-R (2.6%) and AG-2-2 IIIB (1.3%). AG-4 HG-I isolates were widely distributed and recovered from all Brazilian states sampled, including 12 brassicas-growing fields. All isolates were pathogenic to broccoli, cauliflower and kale, causing necrotic lesions on subterraneous stems. There was no significant difference in aggressiveness among the different AGs in broccoli, but AG-1 IB isolates were more aggressive to cauliflower and AG-4 HG-I isolates were more aggressive to kale. This study is the first report of AG-4 HG-I, AG-2-2 IIIB, AG-A, AG-G and AG-R infecting brassica plants in Brazil. Anthracnose, caused by several Colletotrichum species, is a major restricting factor for guava production, but no comprehensive study of the causal agent has been conducted from the plant host centre of diversity. This work characterizes isolates from guava, mainly from the fruit, but also leaves and flowers, representing most Brazilian physiographies according to the partial sequences of the rDNA‐ITS, ApMAT, TUB2, HIS3 and GAPDH gene regions. In addition, the pathogenicity and aggressiveness to fruits of two widely planted guava varieties (SLG and RM) are described. Guava‐derived Colletotrichum isolates were found in five complexes: gloeosporioides, acutatum, boninense, gigasporum and orchidearum. The gloeosporioides complex was the most prevalent (81%), followed by the acutatum complex (14%). A total of 16 Colletotrichum species were naturally associated with guava anthracnose: C. aeschynomenes, C. asianum, C. chrysophilum, C. fructicola, C. gigasporum, C. gloeosporioides, C. karsti, C. melonis, C. musae, C. nymphaeae, C. paranaense, C. siamense, C. sojae, C. syzygicola, C. theobromicola and C. tropicale. Apart from C. nymphaeae and C. gloeosporioides, all the remaining 14 taxa are reported for the first time in P. guajava. The most aggressive species belonged to the C. gloeosporioides complex. C. siamense was the most prevalent, especially in warmer regions, followed by C. chrysophilum, mostly in temperate environments. The most aggressive species were C. siamense, C. chrysophilum, C. fructicola and C. tropicale. Fruits of the variety SLG were consistently more resistant to anthracnose than the fruits of RM. Simple Summary: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare cancer that occurs in children and adolescents. The presence of metastasis is associated with poor outcomes and highlights the need for new non-invasive therapies. Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that have an important impact on disease biology by altering the behavior of recipient cells. RMS-derived exosomes are enriched in miRNAs which can regulate tumorigenesis and metastasis. This study newly identifies miR-1246 as a key miRNA enriched in the cargo of exosomes derived from RMS cells. MiR-1246 has the potential to be delivered to recipient fibroblasts, effectively altering their phenotype and contributing to their aggressiveness. In a pioneer clinical study, miR-1246 in the serum exosomes of RMS patients was found to be enriched. Our results pave the way for the use of exosomal miR-1246 as a key mediator of cell aggressiveness in RMS, thus representing an attractive future therapeutic target. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a pediatric cancer associated with aggressiveness and a tendency to develop metastases. Fusion-negative rhabdomyosarcoma (FN-RMS) is the most commonly occurring subtype of RMS, where metastatic disease can hinder treatment success and decrease survival rates. RMS-derived exosomes were previously demonstrated to be enriched with miRNAs, including miR-1246, possibly contributing to disease aggressiveness. We aimed to decipher the functional impact of exosomal miR-1246 on recipient cells and its role in promoting aggressiveness. Treatment of normal fibroblasts with FN-RMS-derived exosomes resulted in a significant uptake of miR-1246 paired with an increase in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. In turn, delivery of miR-1246-mimic lipoplexes promoted fibroblast proliferation, migration, and invasion in a similar manner. Conversely, when silencing miR-1246 in FN-RMS cells, the resulting derived exosomes demonstrated reversed effects on recipient cells' phenotype. Delivery of exosomal miR-1246 targets GSK3β and promotes β-catenin nuclear accumulation, suggesting a deregulation of the Wnt pathway, known to be important in tumor progression. Finally, a pilot clinical study highlighted, for the first time, the presence of high exosomal miR-1246 levels in RMS patients' sera. Altogether, our results demonstrate that exosomal miR-1246 has the potential to alter the tumor microenvironment of FN-RMS cells, suggesting its potential role in promoting oncogenesis. The causative agent of sooty bark disease, Cryptostroma corticale, has, for some years, caused increased damage to maples (Acer spp.) in Germany and throughout Europe. It has been stated that this pathogen can occur latently in Acer. In this study, the composition of endophytic fungi of woody stem tissues of sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) saplings were analysed in order to investigate whether C. corticale is present in young, visually healthy maple trees from natural regeneration. The most abundant taxa of the 30 isolated endophytes were Diaporthe cf. rudis and Petrakia irregularis. An association of five fungal species (Biscogniauxia mediterranea, Coniochaeta velutina, Gibellulopsis catenata, Neocucurbitaria quercina, Tangerinosporium thalitricola) with A. pseudoplatanus was reported for the first time. Cryptostroma corticale was not present in the juvenile sycamore stems. Furthermore, its pathogenicity was studied in comparison to other pathogens associated with A. pseudoplatanus, namely Diplodia mutila, Dothiorella sp., Nectria cinnabarina, Neonectria coccinea, Neonectria punicea and Stegonsporium pyriforme. The longest necroses were induced by C. corticale followed by N. coccinea. In a trial with a C. corticale spore suspension sprayed directly on stem bark, the fungus could be re-isolated from woody tissue, however necroses were evoked only when the bark was wounded prior to infection. The results from the experiments presented here function as additional evidence for the ability of C. corticale to establish endophytically within the host and, in particular, for the ability of the fungus to establish a successful infection/entrance through intact bark. Purpose: The Gleason score (GS) and positive needles are crucial aggressive indicators of prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics models in predicting GS and positive needles of systematic biopsy in PCa. Material and Methods: A total of 218 patients with pathologically proven PCa were retrospectively recruited from 2 centers. Small-field-of-view high-resolution T2-weighted imaging and post-contrast delayed sequences were selected to extract radiomics features. Then, analysis of variance and recursive feature elimination were applied to remove redundant features. Radiomics models for predicting GS and positive needles were constructed based on MRI and various classifiers, including support vector machine, linear discriminant analysis, logistic regression (LR), and LR using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. The models were evaluated with the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver-operating characteristic. Results: The 11 features were chosen as the primary feature subset for the GS prediction, whereas the 5 features were chosen for positive needle prediction. LR was chosen as classifier to construct the radiomics models. For GS prediction, the AUC of the radiomics models was 0.811, 0.814, and 0.717 in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. For positive needle prediction, the AUC was 0.806, 0.811, and 0.791 in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. Introduction: Aphanomyces euteiches Drechsler is an oomycete pathogen that affects legume crops, causing root rot, a severe disease of peas (Pisum sativum L.) worldwide. While significant research progress has been made in breeding pearesistant varieties, there is still a need for a deeper understanding of the diversity of pathogen populations present in breeding nurseries located in various legume-growing regions around the world. Methods: We analysed the diversity of 51 pea-infecting isolates of A. euteiches, which were recovered from four American (Athena, OR; Le Sueur, MN; Mount Vernon, WA; Pullman, WA) and three French (Riec-sur-Belon, Templeux-le-Gue'rard, Dijon) resistance screening nurseries. Our study focused on evaluating their aggressiveness on two sets of differential hosts, comprising six pea lines and five Medicago truncatula accessions. Results: The isolates clustered into three groups based on their aggressiveness on the whole pea set, confirming the presence of pathotypes I and III. Pathotype I was exclusive to French isolates and American isolates from Athena and Pullman, while all isolates from Le Sueur belonged to pathotype III. Isolates from both pathotypes were found in Mount Vernon. The M. truncatula set clustered the isolates into three groups based on their aggressiveness on different genotypes within the set, revealing the presence of five pathotypes. All the isolates from the French nurseries shared the same Fr pathotype, showing higher aggressiveness on one particular genotype. In contrast, nearly all-American isolates were assigned to four other pathotypes (Us1, Us2, Us3, Us4), differing in their higher aggressiveness on two to five genotypes. Most of American isolates exhibited higher aggressiveness than French isolates within the M. truncatula set, but showed lower aggressiveness than French isolates within the P. sativum set. Discussion: These results provide valuable insights into A. euteiches pathotypes, against which the QTL and sources of resistance identified in these nurseries displayed effectiveness. The hostility is defined as an emotional state that ranges in intensity from mild irritation to rage or anger, while video game dependence is a non-chemical addiction that derives in a potentially addictive behavior. The principal objective of this study was to analyze the correlation between the variables hostility and videogame dependence in adolescents. The design of this study was quantitative non-experimental, whit a descriptive-correlational approach. The sample included 90 young people between 12 and 16 years of age belonging to a private educational unit in the city of Ambato. To measure the study variables, were applied the Buss-Durke Hostility Aggressiveness Inventory adapted by Carlos Reyes Romero in 1987 and the Video Game Dependence Test adapted by Salas, Merino, Choliz and Marco in 201. The results revealed that there is a slight positive relationship between the hostility and video game dependence, whit a higher prevalence of hostility at a high level and moderate level of video game dependence. Objective: The association between Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC) and coexistent Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (HT) was controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the presence of HT exerts any influence on the aggressiveness of PTC, and to establish a nomogram for predicting the possibility of aggressiveness in PTC. Methods: 373 consecutive PTC patients with/without coexistent HT from January 2017 to December 2020 were retrospective reviewed. Patients’ clinicopathologic and sonographic characteristics were collected for univariate and multivariate analyses. A nomogram was established based on the risk factors for aggressiveness in PTC. Results: Male (p = 0.001), tumor size >1.0 cm (p = 0.046) and lymph node metastasis (p = 0.018) were negatively associated with PTC coexisted with HT, while it was significantly positively associated with the frequence of multifocality (p = 0.010). Univariate and multivariate analyses suggested that age ≥55 years (p = 0.000), male (p = 0.027), HT (p = 0.017), tumor size >1.0 cm (p = 0.015), multifocality (p = 0.041), distance to capsular ≤0 cm (p = 0.050) and blood flow (Grade I: p = 0.044) were independent risk factors for predicting the aggressiveness in PTC. A nomogram according to these predictors was further developed and validated. The receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC = 0.734 and 0.809 for training and validation cohorts, respectively) and decision curve analyses indicated that the nomogram model was clinically useful. The calibration curve revealed that the nomogram exhibited an excellent consistency. Conclusions: In this study, the coexistent HT might play a protective role in preventing the proliferation of PTC. Dispensable aggressive treatment may be reduced in PTC by pre-operative identification of sonographic and clinical characteristics and incorporating with the predicted nomogram model.

Abstract In Brazil, reflective practice groups and groups for the liability of men who commit violence against women represent a public policy with good results in reducing violence between intimate partners. This study aimed to assess the contributions of a reflective practice group on feelings such as empathy, aggressiveness and anger in men who commit violent crimes against women. Using the Empathy Scale - ACME, the Aggression Tendency Assessment Scale - EATA, the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory 2 - STAXI 2 and a sociodemographic questionnaire, a quantitative study was carried out with 80 men divided into a reflective practice group and a control group. It was found that the members of the reflective group showed a decrease in mean aggressiveness and an increase in mean empathy compared with the control group. It is suggested that empathy, aggressiveness and anger be integrated into interventions using active methodologies.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the second most common type of cancer of the urinary system. Approximately 75% of the cases are non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), which has a high recurrence and progression rate. Current diagnosis and surveillance methods present challenges, including risks to the patients. For this reason, urinary biomarkers have been proposed as alternatives to the methods. The goal of this mini-review is to describe urinary mRNA-based biomarkers available in current literature for NMIBC tumors, using the PubMed database. The search included the following keywords: “biomarkers” AND “bladder cancer” AND “urine” and “RNA” and “non-muscle”. The search yielded 11 original researchers utilizing mRNA-based urinary biomarkers. Although there is a wide variety of biomarkers described, the cohorts of the studies were not exclusively NMIBC, which is the subtype of BC that would mostly benefit from the introduction of a good follow-up biomarker, highlighting the need for randomized interventional trials for NMIBC.

Proper parenting shapes healthy gadget use habits in early childhood, while uncontrolled parenting increases the risk of adverse impacts. This study aims to identify the relationship between parenting style and gadget usage in early childhood at the Insan Robbani Sibuhuan Integrated Islamic Kindergarten. The cross-sectional method with a quantitative approach and correlation research, along with the use of questionnaires, was chosen because it allows researchers to efficiently collect and analyze data on the relationship between gadget use and the level of aggressiveness in early childhood at a single point in time in a structured and objective manner. There were 63 children and parents as samples in this study. The quota sampling technique based on non-probability sampling is a sampling technique applied by researchers. In addition, questionnaires were also used to obtain data for this study. A reliability and validity test is applied as a research instrument test. The results indicate that parenting styles and gadget usage significantly influence the aggression levels of 68% of early childhood children at Insan Robbani Sibuhuan Integrated Islamic Kindergarten, with the remainder attributed to other factors.

The losses associated with the bacterial diseases of citrus leaves and fruits have been reported throughout all of Pakistan's citrus-growing regions and a lot of work was done on the morphological characterization of pre and post-harvest pathogens. However, this issue has not been addressed in Khanpur, which is a major citrus-producing city in Pakistan and can help in the economic growth of the country. The citrus fruits in the area under study exhibit disease symptoms during pre and post-harvesting, but the actual disease agents have not yet been identified. The retrospective object of the current research is to study the pathogenic variation along with the investigation of bacterial disease incidence i.e. citrus canker, bacterial spots, & HLB in citrus fruit. During a survey conducted in November 2019 and 2020, bacterial isolates from symptomatic citrus fruits were obtained from randomly chosen orchards in Khanpur.The disease assessment was estimated by determining prevalence, severity, and disease incidence (DI). The bacterial isolates were identified morphologically and further through 16S rRNA gene amplification. The identified species were Pseudomonas syringae, Pseudomonas viridiflava, Serratia marcescens, Xanthomonas axonopodis pv citri, and Candidatus liberibacter. In the pathogenicity test, the Xanthomonas strains responsible for the canker disease caused the most severe disease symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first report on pathogens of citrus fruits in Khanpur. Given the significant contribution of citrus fruits to household income and foreign exchange in Pakistan, this study illustrates the molecular-based association of bacterial pathogens of citrus and the toxic behavior of pathogens which helps to provide recommendations on genetic testing and to develop management programs for disease management. The molecular identification of citrus pathogens will empower the citrus growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to make informed decisions that will protect citrus crops, reduce economic losses, and promote sustainable agriculture. The aim of the present study is to explore the relationships between cognitive-behavioral patterns of perfectionism in the context of competitive sport and both prosociality and aggressiveness in a sample of adolescents competing in federated sports. A cross-sectional and non-randomized study was designed using a selective methodology on a sample of adolescents (N = 234) competing in federated sports. Scales to assess aggressiveness, perfectionism, prosocial behavior, and competitiveness were administrated. The results show that as age increases, prosocial behaviors increase and aggressive behaviors and competitiveness decrease, while there was no one significant perfectionist tendency. Competitiveness showed a direct relationship with aggressive (positive) and prosocial behaviors (negative). Self-oriented perfectionistic behavior showed a direct and significant relationship with prosocial behaviors, but no significant relationship with aggressive responses. As P-SP and P-OD tendencies increased, significantly smaller links were shown with prosocial behaviors, but greater links were shown with aggressive behaviors. A path (mediation) model showed a positive and predictive relationship with aggressive behaviors and a negative relationship with prosocial altruistic behaviors. The negative influence of criticism from significant figures in their environment and unrealistic expectations about their performance are relevant to difficulties in self-regulating social relationships in adolescents. Hence, it is a challenge to promote prosocial resources (as a protective value for aggressive behaviors) in the face of the early angst of young athletes, who put their maturity to the test under conditions of high pressure and demands. The present study continues to reinforce the line drawn on perfectionism and prosocial development in young people in sports contexts where young people, measured early on according to their performance, can accentuate and deepen competitive tendencies that alter their adaptive and self-regulatory capacities, as well as their psychosocial projection.

ABSTRACTBackground: Combatants who are exposed to events that transgress deeply held moral beliefs might face lasting psychopathological outcomes, referred to as Moral Injury (MI). However, knowledge about pre-deployment factors that might moderate the negative consequences of MI is sparse. In this prospective study, we examined pre-enlistment characteristics and pre-deployment personality factors as possible moderators in the link between exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) and psychiatric symptomatology among Israeli active-duty combatants.Methods: A sample of 335 active-duty Israeli combatants participated in a 2.5-year prospective study with three waves of measurements (T1: 12 months before enlistment, T2: Six months following enlistment – pre-deployment, and T3: 18 months following enlistment – post-deployment). Participants’ characteristics were assessed via semi-structured interviews (T1) and validated self-report measures of personality factors: emotional regulation, impulsivity, and aggression (T2) and combat exposure, PMIEs, psychiatric symptomology and posttraumatic symptoms (T3) between 2019 and 2021.Results: Pre-enlistment psychiatric difficulties and negative life events contributed to higher exposure to PMIEs post-deployment. Higher levels of pre-deployment aggression and lower levels of emotional regulation and impulsivity moderated the association between betrayal, PMIEs and psychiatric symptomology post-deployment, above and beyond pre-enlistment psychiatric difficulties and life events.Conclusions: Our results highlight that pre-deployment emotional regulation, impulsivity and aggressiveness levels should be assessed, screened, and identified among combatants, as they all facilitate psychiatric symptomology (and PTSS) after combatants are exposed to PMIEs of betrayal. Such pre-assessment will enable the identification of at-risk combatants and might provide them with tailor-made preparation regarding moral and ethical situations that should be investigated in future research.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, after 3 months from the installation of the state of emergency on the territory of Romania, data were collected from 677 students and master's students, to explore the problematic alcohol consumption (AC). Methods: The evaluation was done with: Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales, Strategic Coping Approach Scale and The Freiburg Personality Inventory. The statistical methods used were linear regression with bootstrap procedure, Spearman's rank correlation, and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: More than half were affected by depression or anxiety of moderate to extremely severe intensity. The prevalence of problematic alcohol consumption was low: (Hazardous and Extremely Hazardous (2.3) and Medium Risk (10.2). Early onset increases the subsequent risk of problematic AC, compared to women, men recorded a higher AC (p <.01). Anxiety, antisocial action, personality traits Aggressiveness and Somatic complaints had the effect of increasing the alcohol consumption score (p <.01). Significant but weak positive correlations between AC on one hand, and depression, anxiety, stress and antisocial action on the other hand were found (p <.01). Conclusions: Probably the prevalence of AC was low as a result of the fact that most respondents were studying in the field of health promotion and as a result of the closure of entertainment venues. This study advocates for the education of youngsters to clearly express their opinions without violating the boundaries of others' feelings (assertive action) and to act prudently in dangerous or uncertain situations (cautious action) since these coping mechanisms were not associated with problematic alcohol consumption. The promotion of positive, achievement-oriented, life attitudes is equally important, as these characteristics of the Life Satisfaction personality dimensions were also found as non-determinants of alcohol-induced problems. The association of problematic AC with antisocial actions as a coping mechanism and high scores on Aggressiveness calls for interventions to educate the younger generation how to acquire and adopt healthy mechanisms to control tensions without resorting to alcohol consumption, more so as the two variables reinforce each other. The endothelin-1 (ET1) peptide has a pathological role in the activation of proliferation, survival and invasiveness pathways in different cancers. ET1's effects rely on its activation by the endothelin-converting enzyme-1 (ECE1), which is expressed as four isoforms, differing only in their cytoplasmic N-terminuses. We already demonstrated in colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, and preliminarily lung cancer, that the isoform ECE1c heightens aggressiveness by promoting cancer stem cell traits. This is achieved through a non-canonical ET1-independent mechanism of enhancement of ECE1c's stability upon CK2-dependent phosphorylation at S18 and S20. Here, a K6 residue is presumably responsible for ECE1c ubiquitination as its mutation to R impairs proteasomal degradation. However, how phosphorylation enhances ECE1c's stability and how this translates into aggressiveness are still open questions. In this brief report, by swapping residues to either phospho-mimetic or phospho-resistant amino acids, we propose that the N-terminus may also be phosphorylated at Y5 and/or T9 by an unknown kinase(s). In addition, N-terminus phosphorylation may lead to a blockage of K6 ubiquitination, increasing ECE1c's stability and presumably activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Thus, a novel CK2/ECE1c partnership may be emerging to promote aggressiveness and thus become a biomarker of poor prognosis and a potential therapeutic target for several cancers. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to extend Bippus and Young's (2005) study and examine the effectiveness of the "I-you," "I," "You," "We," "But" and Question-based "Why" statements from Winer's (2021) verbal coding program of conflict management using Bandura's (1977) social learning theory (SLT). Design/methodology/approach: Mixed methods were used using 175 university students from Texas and New York. A cross-sectional convenience sampling approach was conducted. Survey data was collected using Qualtrics. Findings: Descriptive results demonstrated that the "We" statement was the most passive, the "I-you" statement was the most assertive and the "But," "I," "You" and Question statements were perceived to be aggressive. In addition, assertive "I-You" statements were perceived to be more effective in resolving the conflict and maintaining a relationship, whereas aggressive statements were less likely to resolve the conflict and maintain the relationship. Qualitative themes also support the "I-You" statement as the most assertive, while the "But," "You" and "I" statements were found to be the most aggressive statements. Practical implications: Implications and applications are discussed to stimulate future research among researchers and practitioners when addressing conflict. Being aware of the verbal statements that de-escalate conflict may be helpful in solving conflict in interpersonal, family and professional relationships. Future trainings can adopt effective verbal statements to resolve conflict when experiencing anger issues. Future research can continue to investigate verbal communication statements using SLT to help practitioners and managers address conflict in interpersonal relationships. We examine the effect of social influence on individuals' likelihood of using an IRS pre-populated tax return system and the effects of social influence and filing method on individual taxpayer compliance. Our experiment manipulates social influence about the IRS pre-populated return system and the IRS itself (unfavorable or favorable) as well as filing method (IRS pre-populated return or IRS blank tax software) for a simulated tax return. Consistent with social influence theory, results indicate public opinion influences individuals' likelihood of using an IRS pre-populated tax return system. Additionally, consistent with omission bias theory and prior research, individuals who use the IRS pre-populated return system are less compliant. Finally, favorable social influence mitigates the noncompliant behavior exhibited during the use of pre-populated returns when public opinion about both the pre-populated system and the IRS is favorable. Dry rot of potato tubers is a harmful disease caused by species of the Fusarium genus. Studies on the composition and features of Fusarium spp. that cause the disease in Russia are limited. Thirty-one Fusarium strains belonging to the F. sambucinum species complex (FSAMSC) and F. solani species complex (FSSC) were accurately identified using multilocus phylogenetic analysis of the tef and rpb2 loci, and their physiological characteristics were studied in detail. As a result, 21 strains of F. sambucinum s. str. and 1 strain of F. venenatum within the FSAMSC were identified. Among the analyzed strains within the FSSC, one strain of F. mori, four strains of F. noneumartii, and two strains of both F. stercicola and F. vanettenii species were identified. This is the first record of F. mori on potato as a novel host plant, and the first detection of F. noneumartii and F. stercicola species in Russia. The clear optimal temperature for the growth of the strains belonging to FSAMSC was noted to be 25 °C, with a growth rate of 11.6–15.0 mm/day, whereas, for the strains belonging to FSSC, the optimal temperature range was between 25 and 30 °C, with a growth rate of 5.5–14.1 mm/day. The distinctive ability of F. sambucinum strains to grow at 5 °C has been demonstrated. All analyzed Fusarium strains were pathogenic to potato cv. Gala and caused extensive damage of the tuber tissue at an incubation temperature of 23 °C for one month. Among the fungi belonging to the FSAMSC, the F. sambucinum strains were more aggressive and caused 23.9 ± 2.2 mm of necrosis in the tubers on average compared to the F. venenatum strain—17.7 ± 1.2 mm. Among the fungi belonging to the FSSC, the F. noneumartii strains were the most aggressive and caused 32.2 ± 0.8 mm of necrosis on average. The aggressiveness of the F. mori, F. stercicola, and especially the F. vanettenii strains was significantly lower: the average sizes of damage were 17.5 ± 0.5 mm, 17.2 ± 0.2 mm, and 12.5 ± 1.7 mm, respectively. At an incubation temperature of 5 °C, only the F. sambucinum strains caused tuber necroses in the range of 6.7 ± 0.5–15.9 ± 0.8 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Most animal behaviors show large within- and among-individual variation, and this includes competitive male behaviors. With male fighting for example, aggressiveness often correlates with dominance, and contest duration varies with age. However, few studies have directly quantified how mean aggressiveness and contest duration, the variation among individuals in both traits, and the relationship among them, vary with age. Here we address these gaps and examine the effect of male age and genotype on two key aspects of male fighting behavior - aggressiveness (here measured as latency to fight) and contest duration - and the relationship between them. We do this using isogenic lines of the broad-horned flour beetle Gnatocerus cornutus. We observed fighting behavior of paired males of similar body size and age. Using uni- and multivariate mixed models, we show that although there was a significant difference between younger and older males in contest duration, mean aggressiveness was not affected by male age. However, the variation in aggression and fight duration varied with age, being greater in younger and older males respectively. Additionally, although there was a positive correlation between aggressiveness and contest duration in younger males, this relationship was not found in older males. Finally, the only significant genetic effect was for aggression in younger males. Background: Alternaria leaf spot caused by Alternaria alternata is one of the most important and destructive disease of soybean causing severe yield loss in all soybean growing areas of southern and eastern part of Rajasthan. Successful management of Alternaria leaf spot is mainly dependent on accurate and efficient detection of pathogen, amount of genetic and pathogenic variability present in pathogen population. The main reason for frequent "breakdown" of effective resistance is the variability that exists in the pathogen population, which necessitates a continual replacement of cultivars due to disease susceptibility. Methods: The twelve fungal isolates randomly were collected from six districts of major soybean growing part of Rajasthan i.e., Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Kota, Baran and Jhalawar. The culture was purified single spore techniques. These were then further compared among each other for any variations in cultural characters, colour of colonies, Growth rate, conidial morphology and pathogenic variability. Result: Twelve different isolates of A. alternata were obtained in pure culture and characterized for cultural, morphological variation and aggressiveness of this fungus varied in their cultural characters, colour of colonies, growth rate of isolates, conidial morphology and isolates also exhibited variations in incubation period, latent period, number and size of lesions were produced. This study aims to enhance the understanding of the association between the phenotypic and endophenotypic characteristics of impulsive-aggressive disorders, through the study of plasma oxytocin (OXT) and oxytocin receptor (OXTR) levels in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and patients with eating disorders (ED), as well as to examine the relationship of OXT system with aggressive behavior in these disorders. 68 patients with BPD, 67 patients with ED and 57 healthy control subjects were examined for plasma oxytocin levels and protein expression of OXTR in blood mononuclear cells. Aggressive behavior was assessed using the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-2). Other self and hetero-aggressive behaviors were also evaluated through interviews. BPD and ED patients exhibited significantly lower plasma oxytocin levels than control subjects. Furthermore, BPD patients demonstrated significantly reduced expression of OXTR compared to controls. Plasma oxytocin levels negatively correlated with verbal aggression, while OXTR expression was inversely associated with the STAXI trait subscale. The findings validate the existence of oxytocin system dysfunction in impulsive-aggressive disorders.
