ABSTRACT Objective Methods Results Conclusions In screening for small‐for‐gestational age (SGA) using third‐trimester antenatal ultrasound, there are concerns about the low detection rates and potential for harm caused by both false‐negative and false‐positive screening results. Using a selective third‐trimester ultrasound screening program, this study aimed to investigate the incidence of adverse perinatal outcomes among cases with (i) false‐negative compared with true‐positive SGA diagnosis and (ii) false‐positive compared with true‐negative SGA diagnosis.This prospective cohort study was nested within the UK‐based DESiGN trial, a prospective multicenter cohort study of singleton pregnancies without antenatally detected fetal anomalies, born at > 24 + 0 to < 43 + 0 weeks' gestation. We included women recruited to the baseline period, or control arm, of the trial who were not exposed to the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) intervention and whose birth outcomes were known. Stillbirth and major neonatal morbidity were the two primary outcomes. Minor neonatal morbidity was considered a secondary outcome. Suspected SGA was defined as an estimated fetal weight (EFW) < 10th percentile, based on the Hadlock formula and fetal growth charts. Similarly, SGA at birth was defined as birth weight (BW) < 10th percentile, based on UK population references. Maternal and pregnancy characteristics and perinatal outcomes were reported according to whether SGA was suspected antenatally or not. Unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression models were used to quantify the differences in adverse perinatal outcomes between the screening results (false negative vs true positive and false positive vs true negative).In total, 165 321 pregnancies were included in the analysis. Fetuses with a false‐negative SGA screening result, compared to those with a true‐positive result, were at a significantly higher risk of stillbirth (adjusted OR (aOR), 1.18 (95% CI, 1.07–1.31)), but at lower risk of major (aOR, 0.87 (95% CI, 0.83–0.91)) and minor (aOR, 0.56, (95% CI, 0.54–0.59)) neonatal morbidity. Compared with a true‐negative screening result, a false‐positive result was associated with a lower BW percentile (median, 18.1 (interquartile range (IQR), 13.3–26.9)) vs 49.9 (IQR, 30.3–71.7)). A false‐positive result was also associated with a significantly increased risk of stillbirth (aOR, 2.24 (95% CI, 1.88–2.68)) and minor neonatal morbidity (aOR, 1.60 (95% CI, 1.51–1.71)), but not major neonatal morbidity (aOR, 1.04 (95% CI, 0.98–1.09)).In selective third‐trimester ultrasound screening for SGA, both false‐negative and false‐positive results were associated with a significantly higher risk of stillbirth, when compared with true‐positive and true‐negative results, respectively. Improved SGA detection is needed to address false‐negative results. It should be acknowledged that cases with a false‐positive SGA screening result also constitute a high‐risk population of small fetuses that warrant surveillance and timely birth. © 2024 The Author(s). Diprosopus is one of the rarest types of conjoined twins, caused by incomplete zygote separation in early pregnancy. It defines a condition with duplication of facial structures, monocephalic and 1 trunk. Early detection is difficult, but fetal MRI plays an important role in strengthening antenatal diagnosis of conjoined twin pregnancies and other major congenital abnormalities, complementing antenatal ultrasonography. A 28-year-old patient (G2P1A0) was referred from the regional general hospital for suspected malformations, including Dandy-Walker syndrome and a small mandible Antenatal 3-D ultrasound at 35 weeks revealed a single baby with macrosomia, hypoplasia of the vermis, and cleft lip with malformation of facial structures. A 3 Tesla MRI (Signa, GE Healthcare) revealed various developmental brain anomalies, including duplication of the frontotemporal lobes, corpus callosum agenesis, and small posterior fossa. The identification of 4 orbital structures raised suspicions of face duplication. This patient underwent a caesarean section and delivered a diprosopus twin baby. MRI emerged as an indispensable adjunct, complementing ultrasound in detecting congenital malformations. The success of this approach emphasizes collaborative efforts between clinicians and radiologists for accurate identification and management of complex fetal anomalies.

Background The umbilical cord forms the connection between the fetus and the placenta at the feto-maternal interface and normally comprises two umbilical arteries and one umbilical vein. In some cases, only a single umbilical artery (SUA) is present. This study was conducted to evaluate associations between SUA and other congenital malformations discovered in perinatal autopsies and to ascertain the existence of preferential associations between SUA and certain anomalies. Methods We evaluated records of all fetuses sent for autopsy to the Department of Pathology during the 10-year period from 2013 through 2022 (n = 1,277). The data were obtained from the hospital’s pathology laboratory records. The congenital anomalies were grouped by organ or system for analysis and included cardiovascular, urinary tract, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, musculoskeletal, and lung anomalies. Results A SUA was present in 8.61% of the autopsies. The gestational age of the affected fetuses ranged between 13 to 40 weeks. An SUA presented as an isolated single anomaly in 44 cases (3.4%). Of the 110 SUA cases, 60% had other congenital anomalies. There was a significant association between birth defects and SUAs (p < .001). Strong associations between SUA and urinary tract, lung, and musculoskeletal anomalies were observed. Conclusions A SUA is usually seen in association with other congenital malformations rather than as an isolated defect. Therefore, examination for associated anomalies when an SUA is detected either antenatally or postnatally is imperative. The findings of this study should be helpful in counseling expectant mothers and their families in cases of SUA.

Conjoined twins occur in an estimated one in every 200,000 live births. The etiology remains largely speculative, with genetic and environmental factors being considered. The thoraco-omphalopagus type accounts for approximately 40% of cases, making it a focal point for clinical and radiological research. Radiological imaging plays a pivotal role in delineating anatomical details, offering insights into the feasibility of surgical interventions and informing parental counselling regarding prognosis and management options. We present a case of thoracoomphalogus conjoined twins diagnosed during the third trimester of pregnancy in a 19-year-old woman. The detailed radiological assessment using ultra-sound and MRI provided crucial information on organ sharing and vascular anatomy, which is critical for management strategies. This case underscores the critical role of prenatal imaging in detecting complex congenital anomalies, facilitating informed decision-making by healthcare providers and families.

An increasing proportion of congenital choledochal malformation (CCM) are being detected on antenatal ultrasound. However, the actual timing of its surgical correction remains controversial with some series showing an excess of complications the earlier the operation. The aim of this study was to characterize the pathophysiological aspects of this cohort from the perspective of age at surgery in order to inform a more rational basis for clinical decision-making. We analysed a prospective database of CCM acquired over a 26-year period (Jan. 1997 to Dec. 2022) for patient demography; details of pre- and post-natal imaging; age at surgical intervention; operative complications (Clavien-Dindo classification) and outcome. Data are quoted as median (IQR). All comparisons are non-parametric. A P value of 0.05 was accepted as significant. There were 58 (72% female) children with an antenatally-detected CCM from a total of 265 (21.8%) in the series. These were classified as Type 1C (n = 47; 81%), type 4C (n = 3; 5%) and Type 5 (n = 8; 14%). There were no Type 1F lesions in this cohort. Median age at surgery was 113 (IQR 57–198) days. Postnatal cyst (US) size varied from 12 to 130 mm but there was little evidence of a relationship between this and post-natal liver biochemistry (e.g. bilirubin r S = 0.01, P = 0.44; AST r S = 0.14, P = 0.19). Choledochal pressure measurements (n = 46) showed resting pressures of 12 (9–21) mmHg with no significant correlation with age (P = 0.4) or aspartate aminotransferase (P = 0.2) or γ-glutamyl transferase (P = 0.06). The cohort was divided into 2 groups (Early and Late) based on the median age at surgery (all open) (113 days). Biliary obstruction was more common in the Early group (10 vs. 2; P = 0.01). Two perforations occurred, both in the Early group. With a deliberate policy of regular ultrasound-based follow-up we have seen no anastomotic complications (leak, stenosis, persistent intrahepatic biliary dilatation or stones) or post-operative cholangitis in any child [median follow-up 3.42 (1.30–8.05) years]. This is one of the largest series documenting the outcomes of antenatally-detected CCMs, certainly in Europe and North America. Such lesions are invariably cystic in nature, and either Types 1C, 4C or 5. Background: Lack of data on the burden and scope of congenital disorders (CDs) in South Africa undermines resource allocation and limits the ability to detect signals from potentially teratogenic pregnancy exposures. Methods: We used routine electronic data in the Western Cape Pregnancy Exposure Registry (PER) to determine the overall and individual prevalence of CD identified on neonatal surface examination at birth in the Western Cape, South Africa, 2016–2022. CD was confirmed by record review. The contribution of late (≤24 months) and antenatal diagnoses was assessed. We compared demographic and obstetric characteristics between women with/without pregnancies affected by CD. Results: Women with a viable pregnancy (>22 weeks gestation; birth weight ≥ 500 g) (n = 32,494) were included. Of 1106 potential CD identified, 56.1% were confirmed on folder review. When internal and minor CD were excluded the prevalence of major CD identified on surface examination at birth was 7.2/1000 births. When missed/late diagnoses on examination (16.8%) and ultrasound (6.8%) were included, the prevalence was 9.2/1000 births: 8.9/1000 livebirths and 21.5/1000 stillbirths. The PER did not detect 21.5% of major CD visible at birth. Older maternal age and diabetes mellitus were associated with an increased prevalence of CD. Women living with/without HIV (or the timing of antiretroviral therapy, before/after conception), hypertension or obesity did not significantly affect prevalence of CD. Conclusions: A surveillance system based on routine data successfully determined the prevalence of major CD identified on surface examination at birth at rates slightly higher than in equivalent studies. Background: The objective of our study to analyze the data of the prenatal diagnosis of congenital malformations at the maternity and reproductive health hospital "Les Orangers" in Rabat and to identify the main anomalies detected, their percentage and their short-term outcome.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted at the maternity and reproductive health hospital "Les Orangers" in Rabat, Morocco. The data was collected and reported on pre-established sheets and on the register of malformations of the hospital.Results: A total of 245 cases of congenital malformations comprising 470 types of congenital malformations were recorded out of a total of 43,923 births over a period of five and a half years, giving a prevalence of 5.58 per thousand.Prenatal diagnosis was made in a third of cases (33%), essentially during the 2nd-3rd trimester of pregnancy. The anomalies revealed by this antenatal diagnosis were dominated by urinary malformations in 70% and central nervous system anomalies in 67%, followed by other types of congenital anomalies in less than 40% of cases, while genetic problems were detected in 2.5%; this rate is underestimated since chromosomal abnormalities sometimes appear as syndromes, so that in some diseases, genetic changes are not separated from other abnormalities, and since more than half (50.7%) of cases presenting polymalformative syndromes not survived 77% of cases i.e. (48.5% of deaths and 28.5% of FDIU) and an etiological study was not carried out.Conclusion: Antenatal ultrasound allows early detection and monitoring of the evolution of congenital malformations, and thus the possibility of ensuring early and adequate management of these anomalies from birth. In our context, it is necessary to develop a prenatal screening program for congenital anomalies and a network of reference centers for the management of these anomalies in order to improve their prognosis.

Background: Neonatal oral cavity masses present complex diagnostic and management challenges, often involving respiratory distress. We present a case of a 1-day-old male neonate with an oral cavity mass and respiratory distress, whose antenatal scan revealed polyhydramnios and a nasopalatine cyst. Case Report: Clinical examination revealed a 5 * 5 cm cystic swelling arising from the right hard palate. CT scans confirmed an intraoral cystic lesion with a complete cleft palate and excluded oropharyngeal/neck extension. Aspiration of cystic fluid facilitated surgical excision, leading to a histopathological diagnosis of mature cystic teratoma. Primary closure of the soft palate defect was performed. Histopathological examination revealed it to be mature cystic teratoma. Conclusion: This case underscores the intricate interplay between antenatal imaging, clinical assessment, and surgical intervention in managing neonatal oral cavity masses. The successful excision and histopathological confirmation of a mature cystic teratoma highlights the significance of accurate diagnosis and timely intervention. Background: Wilms’ tumor is the most common renal malignancy in children, with a peak incidence between 1 and 4 years of age. The prevalence of antenatal renal tumors is scarce, around 7 in 100,000 live births. We report a case of an antenatally diagnosed Wilms tumor. Case Presentation: A 2-month-old infant presented with a right renal lump since birth. The antenatal USG done at 35 weeks of gestation, showed an ill-defined heteroechoic area of size 57.3X29.9 mm at the upper pole of the right kidney, with few cystic areas with increased echogenicity. A right nephroureterectomy was done. It was WT1 and Vimentin positive and focally positive for Cyclin D1, whereas negative for Desmin, SMA, and PAX8, thus confirming the histopathological diagnosis of Wilms’ tumor. Conclusion: Antenatal Wilms’ tumor is rarely detected. A high degree of suspicion and active investigations should be conducted in antenatal and immediate neonatal periods for prompt decision-making and better outcomes.

Ichthyosis, derived from the Greek word "ichthys" meaning fish, encompasses various skin disorders characterized by dry, scaly, and thickened skin, often inherited through autosomal or X-linked modes. This case report discusses a rare and severe form known as Harlequin ichthyosis, presenting a second gravida woman with consanguinity history who delivered a male baby with characteristic features including porcelain-like skin, ectropion, eclabion, and flexion deformities. Despite supportive measures, the baby died shortly after birth. Harlequin ichthyosis, with an incidence of 1 in 300,000 births, arises from mutations in the ABCA12 gene, affecting lipid exocytosis and desquamation. Antenatal diagnosis is feasible through ultrasound findings and genetic testing, with a grim prognosis and limited survival beyond infancy. This report underscores the challenges in managing such conditions and highlights the importance of ongoing research for better understanding and management.

Materials and methods. In total, 618 birth histories in singleton normal pregnancies complicated by FGR in the city of Zaporizhzhia were analyzed. Of these, in 546 cases of FGR, women gave birth to live infants (group I), and in 72 such cases, pregnancies ended up in a stillbirth (group II). The mean age of pregnant women in the studied groups was 28.7 ± 3.1 and 31.7 ± 3.1 years and it was significantly greater in group II (p < 0.0001). In all the cases, the gestational age was ≥22 weeks, and the fetal weight was less than the 10th percentile for the relevant gestational age according to the current Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 1718 dated 02.10.2023. Introduction Neonates with lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) experience high morbidity and mortality associated with the development of chronic kidney disease. The prenatal detection rate for LUTO is less than 50%, with late or missed diagnosis leading to delayed management and long-term sequelae in the remainder. We aimed to explore the trends in prenatal detection and management at a high-risk fetal center and determine if similar trends of postnatal presentations were noted for the same period. Methods Prenatal and postnatal LUTO databases from a tertiary fetal center and its associated pediatric center between 2009 and 2021 were reviewed, capturing maternal age, gestational age (GA) at diagnosis, and rates of termination of pregnancy (TOP). Time series analysis using autocorrelation was performed to investigate time trend changes for prenatally suspected and postnatally confirmed LUTO cases. Results A total of 161 fetuses with prenatally suspected LUTO were identified, including 78 terminations. No significant time trend was found when evaluating the correlation between time periods, prenatal suspicion, and postnatal confirmation of LUTO cases (Durbin–Watson [DW] = 1.99, p = 0.3641 and DW = 2.86, p = 0.9113, respectively). GA at referral was 20.0 weeks (interquartile range [IQR] 12, 35) and 22.0 weeks (IQR 13, 37) for TOP and continued pregnancies (p < 0.0001). GA at initial ultrasound was earlier in terminated fetuses compared to continued (20.0 [IQR 12, 35] weeks vs. 22.5 [IQR 13, 39] weeks, p < 0.0001). While prenatal LUTO suspicion remained consistently higher than postnatal presentations, the rates of postnatal presentations and terminations remained stable during the study years (p = 0.7913 and 0.2338), as were GA at TOP and maternal age at diagnosis (p = 0.1710 and 0.1921). Conclusion This study demonstrated that more severe cases of LUTO are referred earlier and are more likely to undergo TOP. No significant trend was detected between time and prenatally suspected or postnatally confirmed LUTO, highlighting the need for further studies to better delineate factors that can increase prenatal detection. Absent pulmonary valve syndrome (APVS) is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by rudimentary PV tissue with variable degrees of PV stenosis and regurgitant pulmonary blood flow. In most cases, it is associated with tetralogy of Fallot. In a minority of APVS cases, with an unknown frequency, intact ventricular septum (IVS), patent ductus arteriosus, and possible tricuspid atresia are present. This condition is known as non-Fallot type APVS. We describe a case of an antenatal diagnosis of APVS with IVS, a large patent ductus arteriosus, and ascending aorta dilatation. The mother was referred to our center at 32 weeks of gestation due to cardiomegaly on sonography. Fetal echocardiography revealed cardiomegaly, right atrial and ventricular enlargement, aneurysmal dilatation of the main pulmonary artery, and mild dilatation of the pulmonary artery branches. Also observed were IVS, rudimentary PV tissue with severe to-and-fro turbulence across the PV, a widely open ductus arteriosus, ascending aorta dilatation, and levorotation of the heart. After childbirth, our diagnosis was confirmed by echocardiography and surgery. The baby experienced severe respiratory distress. At 15 days of life, surgical intervention in the form of pulmonary artery arterioplasty was performed, resulting in good outcomes. Growth restriction in newborns was determined according to the criteria of the Consensus Definition (2018) including birth weight the <3rd percentile, or a combination of three of the following criteria: birth weight the <10th percentile; head circumference the <10th percentile; prenatal diagnosis of FGR; prenatal risk factors associated with FGR. A stillbirth was defined as death of a fetus after 22 weeks of gestation without any signs of life. Exclusion criteria from the study were: multiple pregnancy, the presence of a chromosomal abnormality in a fetus, an undetermined gestational age in the 1st trimester. Results. A significant proportion of fetuses with FGR signs has been revealed in group II, which was 17 times more than that in group I. The study data have demonstrated a rather low level of prenatal FGR identification in both groups (35.6 %), while in group II, the diagnosis of FGR was made before delivery only in every fifth case (p < 0.05). Data analysis has shown a higher percentage of preterm births among pregnant women in group II (p < 0.0001) with the maximum number of births in this group at 28- and 36-weeks' gestation. The average weight percentile was significantly higher in group II, namely 4.12 compared to 3.77 (p < 0.0001), however, the number of fetuses with a weight the <1st percentile occurred significantly more often in group I (p < 0.05). The frequency of fetal distress in group I was greater among fetuses with the birth weight 10th percentile than among those with fetal weight less than the 3rd percentile. Conclusions. The conducted study results have shown a large percentage of FGR fetuses in the structure of stillbirths with no downward trend. A low level of FGR prenatal identification has been found in both groups (35.6 %), while in the group of stillbirths, the indicator was significantly lower and amounted to 22.22 %. The presence of FGR has resulted in a significant increase in the relative risk of stillbirth - 28.4, 95 % CI [21.2; 38.3]. Besides, the additional risk was increased (11.0, 95 % CI [8.7; 13.8]) if FGR was not diagnosed during pregnancy. At the same time, the odds ratio was 32.1, 95 % CI [23.3; 44.1]. We analyzed the risk factors and outcomes of antenatally diagnosed congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) from a tertiary-care children’s hospital following in-utero transfer. A total of 41 antenatally detected cases of CDH were included; 30 were live-born and 11 were still-born. The primary outcome was postnatal survival. The secondary outcome was the probable factor affecting survival. No medical termination of the pregnancy was done. The mean gestational age at diagnosis was 23 weeks. The diagnostic accuracy of antenatal ultrasonography was 40/41 (97.5%). Lung-to-head ratio (LHR) was 1 in 10 cases (survived 8), and LHR was not recorded in 11 cases (survived 4). Overall survival was 14/41 (34.1%). Survival in fetuses with polyhydramnios was 0% (n=3; survived 0), associated anomalies were 33.3% (n=3; survived 1), and liver herniation was 22.2% (n=9; survived 2). Postnatally, significant risk factors included a low Apgar score, the need for ventilation, and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) management. Survival in live-born cases was 14/30 (46.6%) and in operated cases was 14/19 (73.6%). We concluded that antenatal ultrasound had a high accuracy rate for detecting CDH. Antenatal risk factors affecting outcomes were low LHR, maternal polyhydramnios, liver herniation, and associated malformations. Postnatal risk factors included a low Apgar score, NICU admission, and a need for ventilation. The overall survival rate, as well as the survival rates for live-borns and those undergoing surgery, were 34.1%, 46.6%, and 73.6%, respectively. This data will guide clinicians in counseling the families of antenatally diagnosed CDH.

Background: Sirenomelia is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by the fusion of two lower limbs, resulting in the mermaid’s tail appearance. Sirenomelia is a very rare syndrome and can be fatal to the infant. This syndrome might be sporadic or have a genetic basis. The etiology of sirenomelia is unknown but said to be multifactorial. Some maternal factors associated with sirenomelia include diabetes melitus, maternal age under 20 years and monozygote twinning.Case report: This report presented four cases of sirenomelia that occurred during 2006-2019 at Fatemieh Hospital, a tertiary maternal-neonatal center, Hamadan, Iran. All of the pregnancies were complicated by oligohydramnios. None of the mothers were younger than 20 years, and none had diabetes mellitus. Moreover, their drug history during pregnancy was negative. All newborns had low Apgar scores and died a few minutes after birth, indicating their poor outcomes. None of the cases were diagnosed prenatally, and all newborns were firstborn infants.Conclusion: Sirenimelia is a rare lethal condition, which requires prenatal diagnosis for abortion planning.

Choroid plexus cysts (CPCs) are incidental findings on ultrasound examination of the fetal brain. It is not known if isolated CPCs are associated with any adverse health or neurodevelopmental outcomes during the life course. This systematic review aimed to collate and synthesize the evidence on whether or not isolated choroid plexus cysts are associated with an increased risk of adverse health or developmental outcomes during childhood and adolescence. A search strategy was developed specifically for this study and applied to four electronic databases Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Studies were assessed and selected for inclusion if there was a measurement of CPC (including single or multiple; unilateral or bilateral; isolated or presenting alongside other markers) during the antenatal or early neonatal period (<7 days) with follow-up of children and adolescents for health and developmental outcomes measured at any time from age 1 month onwards. Study quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. Due to heterogeneity in the types of outcome measures included and the timing of measurement of outcomes across the studies, it was not possible to pool data across studies and a narrative description of findings was presented. Eight studies (three cohorts and five case series) met the inclusion criteria. Different methods were used for outcome assessment, such as in-person assessment, parent questionnaires, medical records, and telephone interviews with parents. Six studies measured outcomes only once during the specified duration of follow-up; two studies carried out paediatric reviews of the children several times during follow-up. There were no differences in developmental outcomes or physical health between babies with CPCs reported in the three cohort studies, and no abnormalities were detected in the children that were followed up in four of the five case series studies. Most of the included studies were graded as low quality due to the small sample size, high risk of selection bias, unclear definitions of CPC or lack of a comparison group. The studies conducted to date do not provide evidence of adverse physical health outcomes or neurodevelopmental delays in babies with CPCs. However, most of these studies were small and included a narrow range of outcomes. Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare hereditary autosomal disease that is included in the heterogeneous group of genodermatosis. It is characterized by skin and mucous membranes fragility and denudation, and it can be associated with pyloric atresia. Prognosis is often poor, and death can occur in neonatal period due to severe sepsis. We present a case of fetal junctional epidermolysis bullosa in a consanguineous couple, highly suggested by previous obstetric history and several antenatal ultrasound signs, such as polyhydramnios, gastric enlargment, the "snowflake sign", abnormal external ears, signs of skin desquamation, lower limbs anomalies and chorioamniotic membrane separation. We describe a marked perioral hipoecogenicity as a novel sign of skin-mucous denudation, which could be helpful for future diagnosis. A review of literature, focused specifically on the antenatal sonography role, is also reported. Background: Congenital anomalies affect approximately 1 in 33 infants leading to 6.6% of deaths in infants and causing significant morbidity in children. There is a need for a study aimed to investigate the diagnosis, prognostication, follow-up and outcomes of antenatally diagnosed surgical anomalies. Aim & Objectives: To identify cases of antenatally detected congenital anomalies within the purview of a surgical perspective, serially monitor them and assess their outcomes over the given period of study. Methods: A total of 60 patients were selected from those pregnant mothers who were referred for antenatal counseling after the fetus was diagnosed to have congenital anomalies during routine gestational scanning in the tertiary care hospital, Ramaiah Medical College and Memorial Hospital over a period of July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2017. All relevant data of the patients was entered into a Proforma and all the quantitative variables were analyzed and presented using descriptive statistics such as mean, mode, median, and standard deviation. All the qualitative variables were presented using frequency and percentage. The association between the various abnormalities and the outcomes was tested using Chi Square Test. Results 41.9% of mothers less than 25 years of age showed fetuses with renal involvement, 29% involved multiple systems, 25.8% involved GIT and 3.2% involved the respiratory system. In mothers older than 25 years of age, 41.4% involved the renal system, 24.1% involved the GIT, 27.6% multiple systems and 6.9% involved the respiratory system. The highest incidence in this study was found to be of renal system involvement. 60.9% of renal anomalies, 21.7% of GIT anomalies, and 8.7% of multiple system and respiratory system anomalies did not require surgical intervention. 35.3% of multiple system anomalies, 29% of renal anomalies, 32.3% of GIT anomalies, and 3.2% of respiratory anomalies required surgical intervention. The study showed that multiple system anomalies were more likely to require surgical intervention. The percentage of need for intervention was least in renal anomalies. Conclusion: Pediatric Surgeons have a very important role in discouraging terminations for correctable anomalies. The time of presentation of various anomalies had no bearing on any particular system involvement. To evaluate the timing of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) administration in relation to the delivery timing based on indications and risk factors for preterm delivery. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to understand what factors predict the optimal timing of ACS administration (ACS administration within seven days). We reviewed consecutive charts of adult pregnant women receiving ACS from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2019. We excluded pregnancies under 23 weeks, incomplete and duplicate records, and patients delivered outside our health system. The timing of ACS administration was categorized as optimal or suboptimal. These groups were analyzed regarding demographics, indications for ACS administration, risk factors for preterm delivery, and signs and symptoms of preterm labor. We identified 25,776 deliveries. ACS were administered to 531 pregnancies, of which 478 met the inclusion criteria. Of the 478 pregnancies included in the study, 266 (55.6 %) were delivered in the optimal timeframe. There was a higher proportion of patients receiving ACS for the indication of threatened preterm labor in the suboptimal group as compared to the optimal group (85.4 % vs. 63.5 %, p<0.001). In addition, patients who delivered in the suboptimal timeframe had a higher proportion of short cervix (33 % vs. 6.4 %, p<0.001) and positive fetal fibronectin (19.8 % vs. 1.1 %, p<0.001) compared to those who delivered in the optimal timeframe. More emphasis should be placed on the judicious use of ACS. Emphasis should be placed on clinical assessment rather than relying solely on imaging and laboratory tests. Background: Parents of babies diagnosed with life limiting conditions in the perinatal period face numerous challenges. Considerations include the remainder of the pregnancy, delivery of the baby and decisions around care in the neonatal period. Aim: To increase understanding of how parents experience the diagnosis of a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, during pregnancy and following the birth of their baby, by answering the question: 'what is known about the perinatal experiences of parents of babies with a life-limiting or life-threatening diagnosis?' Design: A meta-ethnography was conducted to synthesise findings from existing qualitative evidence. Data sources: British Nursing Database, CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO and Embase databases were searched in January 2023. Findings: Relationships between parents and their families and friends, and with professionals influence the needs and experiences of parents, which oscillate between positive and negative experiences, throughout parents' perinatal palliative care journey. Parents highlighted the need for control and a sense of normality relating to their parenting experience. Validation was central to the experience of parents at all stages of parenthood. Relationships between the parent and the baby were unwavering, underpinned with unconditional love. Conclusion: Professionals, family members and friendship groups influence the experience, validating parents and their baby's identity and supporting parents in having a sense of control and normality by demonstrating empathy, and providing time and clear communication. Objective: To develop and evaluate a training program for diagnosing placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorder in obstetrics/gynecology and radiology residents. Methods: This single‐center prospective study was based on 177 ultrasound images of pathologically confirmed PAS extracted from 534 cases of placenta previa suspicious for PAS. First‐ to third‐year residents were evaluated before training to assess experience and ability to diagnose PAS. They attended a principal lecture followed by weekly self‐study exercises over 5 weeks. Post‐course tests evaluated the efficacy of the training program for improving diagnosis of PAS after the program. Results: Twenty‐three (38.3%) obstetrics/gynecology and 37 (61.7%) radiology residents were trained. Before the training program, 98.3% reported minimal experience and 100% low confidence to correctly diagnose PAS. During the program, the overall accuracy of all participants in diagnosing PAS increased from 71.3% before to 95.2% after training (P < 0.001). Regression analyses showed that ability to diagnose PAS increased 2.52‐fold (P < 0.001) following the program. The retention of knowledge at 1, 3, and 6 months posttest was 84.7%, 87.5%, and 87.7%, respectively. Conclusion: An antenatal diagnosis of PAS training program can be effective as a residency training program, considering the globally rising cesarean delivery rates. Natural disasters jeopardize routine life, including health care system. This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the difficulties faced by flood-affected pregnant women in refugee camps of the Hyderabad region of Pakistan. This study was conducted from October 2022 to September 2023. A field survey was done as part of quantitative research to find women affected by catastrophe who were residing in shelter camps. The primary data collection took place close to Jamshoro, Kotri and Hyderabad City in the regions where temporary flood-relief shelters were constructed and flood affected pregnant ladies referred to tertiary care (Countess Lady Duffirin Fund) Hospital with reproductive health issues e.g. high risk pregnancies for antenatal care, correction of anemia, control of blood pressure and diabetes, normal vaginal deliveries and emergency or elective caesarean sections. Eight hundred thirty-two patients were recruited, including 69.2% aged 15 – 25 years old, 44.2% with 2nd trimester of gestational age. All patients complained about unavailability of transportation, complained about the provision of medicine (62%), antenatal care (3.8%) disposable waste (3.8%), clean water supply (3.8%) and provision of food (19.2%). Women in relief camps face multifactorial problems which adversely affect their health including reproductive health.

ObjectiveCholedochal cysts are increasingly being diagnosed antenatally. The appropriate time of surgical treatment has the greatest impact on the prognosis of choledochal cyst treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of prenatally diagnosed choledochal cysts in infants according to the surgical treatment timing.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed the medical records of infants who underwent surgery for choledochal cysts with antenatal diagnoses. We investigated each patient's demographic information, type of choledochal cyst, serum liver enzyme levels, and surgical outcomes according to the surgical intervention timing.ResultsBetween May 2006 and December 2020, 93 infants underwent surgery to treat choledochal cysts; among them, 68 had antenatally suspected choledochal cysts. Of the 68 patients, 21 developed symptoms directly after birth. While 38 patients remained asymptomatic, 9 developed symptoms before operation. To compare surgical outcomes, asymptomatic patients were divided into early (13 cases) and late (25 cases) operation groups based on an age benchmark of 30 days. Context: Klippel--Trenaunay--Weber syndrome (KTWS) is a rare disease characterized by a triad of venous malformations, vascular skin nevus and asymmetric hypertrophy of bone and soft tissue. The spectrum of disease in utero varies from asymptomatic nevus flammeus to life threatening complications like Kasabach--Merritt phenomena. Aim: The aim of this study was to review our experience of antenatal diagnosis of KTWS and it's postnatal management. Settings and Design: This was a retrospective observational study of all pregnant women who were antenatally diagnosed with KTWS and postnatally confirmed at a tertiary care center in north India between 2012 and 2021. Subjects and Methods: The electronic medical records were reviewed and data were collected regarding demographic information, obstetric history, clinical presentation, sonographic findings, mode of delivery, fetal outcome, and follow-up. Results: During the study period, four fetuses were diagnosed with KTWS on sonography. Three women were multigravida whereas one was a primigravida. Two women opted for medical termination of pregnancy and one each had liveborn child and an intra-uterine fetal death. KTWS was confirmed in all cases. The liveborn child underwent treatment for the vascular malformation and is alive at 4 years of age. Conclusions: This study attempts to add onto the available literature regarding the spectrum of prenatal presentations of KTWS. Background: This prospective observational study delves into the intricate realm of Doppler indices in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) fetuses, aiming to illuminate their clinical relevance and predictive potential. Fetal growth restriction, a critical concern in maternalfetal medicine, is explored through the lens of Doppler ultrasound, which enables assessment of uteroplacental and fetoplacental blood flow dynamics. Antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) improves maternal and neonatal outcomes by allowing for multidisciplinary planning and preparedness. Ultrasound is the primary imaging tool. Simplification and standardization of placental evaluation and reporting terminology allows improved communication and understanding between teams. Prior to 10 weeks of gestation, gestational sac position and least myometrial thickness surrounding the gestational sac help PAS diagnosis very early in pregnancy. Late first-, second-, and third-trimester evaluation includes comprehensive evaluation of the placenta, transabdominal and transvaginal with partially full maternal urinary bladder, and by color Doppler. Subsequently, the sonologist should indicate whether the evaluation was optimal or suboptimal; the level of suspicion as low, moderate, or high; and the extent as focal, global, or extending beyond the uterus. Other complementary imaging modalities such as 3D-power Doppler ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and vascular topography mapping strive to improve antenatal placental evaluation but remain investigational at present. Background: Sirenomelia is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by the fusion of two lower limbs, resulting in the mermaid’s tail appearance. Sirenomelia is a very rare syndrome and can be fatal to the infant. This syndrome might be sporadic or have a genetic basis. The etiology of sirenomelia is unknown but said to be multifactorial. Some maternal factors associated with sirenomelia include diabetes melitus, maternal age under 20 years and monozygote twinning. Case report: This report presented four cases of sirenomelia that occurred during 2006-2019 at Fatemieh Hospital, a tertiary maternal-neonatal center, Hamadan, Iran. All of the pregnancies were complicated by oligohydramnios. None of the mothers were younger than 20 years, and none had diabetes mellitus. Moreover, their drug history during pregnancy was negative. Vascular rings, including right aortic arch with aberrant left subclavian artery (RAA-ALSCA), double aortic arch (DAA) and pulmonary artery sling (PAS), are congenital anomalies that may cause airway and oesophageal compression. As prenatal detection has improved, literature comparing clinical outcomes of antenatally versus postnatally diagnosed cases continues to emerge. The aim is to define a statewide tertiary paediatric institution's clinical profile and outcomes of prenatal versus postnatally diagnosed isolated vascular rings. A retrospective single-centre review of isolated RAA-ALSCA, DAA and PAS between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 2020 was conducted. Clinical characteristics, surgical and follow-up information were collected. Antenatal and postnatally diagnosed groups were compared. Out of 123 cases diagnosed with isolated vascular rings, 98 (79.7%) cases had RAA-ALSCA, 21 (17.1%) with DAA, 4 (3.3%) with PAS. The antenatal detection rate was 73.6% in the past decade; 20.3% had a genetic disorder, of which 48% had 22q11.21 microdeletion. Of prenatally diagnosed cases, 31.3% developed symptoms, commonly stridor and dysphagia, at a median age of 2.0 months (IQR 0.0–3.0), compared to a median age of diagnosis for the postnatal cohort of 9 months (IQR 1.0–40.7). Postnatally diagnosed cases were more likely to present with symptoms, primarily respiratory distress, than prenatally diagnosed cases (p=0.006). Fifty-nine (59) cases (50% antenatally diagnosed) required vascular ring division; 6.8% had residual symptoms following surgery. Antenatal diagnosis has improved and leads to better parental awareness and more timely, appropriate intervention. Postnatally diagnosed patients were older, more likely to be symptomatic, underwent more investigations and were commenced on more medications for symptom management prior to diagnosis. Background The Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH) recommends double screening (DS) for syphilis and HIV during the first and third trimesters of antenatal care (ANC) to mitigate vertical transmission. We surveyed DS outcomes and their associated factors in a priority Brazilian municipality with >100 000 inhabitants who face challenges for both health problems. Methods A total of 399 women were followed up throughout pregnancy using medical records. Spatial and multinomial logistic analyses were performed. Results There was an incidence rate of 24.8%, 59.4% and 15.8% for 'full DS', 'partial DS' and 'without DS', respectively. Younger women and those with a history of both prematurity and multiparity were less likely to be in the 'full DS' category. There was an overlap of high-density clusters of 'full DS' and 'ANC in better quality basic health units', adherent to both the Family Health Strategy and the National Program for Access and Quality Improvement in Primary Care. Conclusions The poor DS outcomes presented in 75% of the cases were mostly linked to delays in starting ANC appointments or their discontinuity. Thus, the MoH recommendations, accompanied by ongoing training, technical assistance and the periodic evaluation of their implementation, need to effectively reach providers and promote counseling and awareness about the importance of DS for pregnant women. Teratomas are defined by the presence of cell types from different germ layers, they typically involve the gonads or the sacrococcygeal region and are rarely retroperitoneal. Prenatally detected adrenal teratomas are extremely uncommon. Aim of this paper is to share our experience with an adrenal antenatal mass initially diagnosed as a left adrenal neuroblastoma that turned out to be a mature teratoma after microscopical examination. We present the case of a male fetus with antenatal diagnosis of a left adrenal cystic image at the 22nd week of amenorrhea. The fetal magnetic resonance imaging showed a non-calcified cystic mass of the left adrenal gland, compatible with a neuroblastoma. At birth an ultrasound confirmed the presence of an anechogenic lesion of the left adrenal gland. The infant was closely monitored during his first year and in the absence of significant regression of the adrenal mass, it was decided to perform a laparoscopic left adrenalectomy. Unexpectedly, the final pathological diagnosis was mature cystic adrenal teratoma. In conclusion, an adrenal mass diagnosed antenatally is generally a hemorrhage or a neuroblastoma. Adrenal teratomas are very rare and those diagnosed antenatally even more. At present, we have no clinical, biological, or radiological evidence to suspect them before surgical removal. Justification: The diagnosis of Down syndrome (DS) is easily made clinically but the management is multi-disciplinary and life-long. There is no standard protocol available for its management in India. Process: A committee was formed under the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) chapter of Neuro developmental pediatrics consisting of 20 experts working in the related field. The various aspects of the condition were discussed and allotted to the concerned experts related for preparing the guidelines. The material received was collated to form a set of guidelines, which were reviewed by the committee, and a consensus statement made. The guidelines were then approved by the chapter, and by the IAP. Objectives: To define the condition and to look into the various aspects of antenatal and postnatal diagnosis. To explain briefly about the involvement of the various systems that are involved and formulate recommendations for management. To recommend early and sustained interventional therapies to enable children with DS lead an independent life. Recommendations: The stress on bio-psycho-social strategy for the management of children with DS is reiterated, and the need for a medical, social and rights model is recommended after each section. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is associated with pulmonary hypoplasia and respiratory morbidity. To assess whether respiratory morbidity during the first 2 years of life in infants with left-sided CDH is associated with fetal lung volume (FLV) evaluated by the observed-to-expected FLV ratio (o/e FLV) on antenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In this retrospective study, o/e FLV measures were collected. Respiratory morbidity in the first 2 years of life was studied according to two endpoints: treatment with inhaled corticosteroids for >3 consecutive months and hospitalization for any acute respiratory disease. The primary outcome was a favorable progression defined by the absence of either endpoint. Forty-seven patients were included. The median o/e FLV was 39% (interquartile range, 33–49). Sixteen (34%) infants were treated with inhaled corticosteroids and 13 (28%) were hospitalized. The most efficient threshold for a favorable outcome was an o/e FLV ≥ 44% with a sensitivity of 57%, specificity of 79%, negative predictive value of 56%, and positive predictive value of 80%. An o/e FLV ≥ 44% was associated with a favorable outcome in 80% of cases. These data suggest that lung volume measurement on fetal MRI may help to identify children at lower respiratory risk and improve information during pregnancy, patient characterization, decisions about treatment strategy and research, and personalized follow-up. Objective Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) covers a wide spectrum of placental adherence/invasion with varied clinical significance. Histopathologic examination is considered the confirmatory gold standard, but is only obtained sometime after definitive treatment. The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) has published a new clinical classification that can be assigned at delivery, and we aimed to investigate the association between this new FIGO classification and histopathology and also to assess its correlation with maternal outcomes. Study Design We studied a retrospective cohort of 185 patients with histopathologically proven PAS managed at our referral center between September 2012 and January 2019. Two experienced surgeons retrospectively reviewed charts and assigned the FIGO grading based on findings reported at delivery. A third experienced reviewer adjudicated to determine the classification used for final analysis. Categorical outcomes were compared with the use of chi-squared and the Fisher exact test, as appropriate. A multivariate model was designed to adjust outcomes in different FIGO groups for the involvement of a formal multidisciplinary management team. Results Among 185 patients, there were 41 (22%) placenta accreta, 44 (24%) placenta increta, and 100 (54%) placenta percreta on histopathology. The inter-rater reliability was found to be substantial with Kappa = 0.661 (p < 0.001), and 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.449–0.872. There was a significant association between all histopathology groupings and the FIGO clinical classification (p < 0.001). However, we found no association between FIGO classifications and maternal complications. Conclusion The new FIGO clinical classification is strongly associated with histopathologic findings. A better understanding of the depth and extent of invasion as afforded by the clinical classification system will help standardize reporting and future research. The progress in fetal cardiology allows for the early diagnosis of congenital heart defects, but there is still a lack of data on the psychological situation of parents expecting a child with a congenital heart defect. In this cross-sectional study, 77 parents (45 women and 32 men) expecting a child with a heart defect were interviewed with different questionnaires. The standardized Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire was used to assess the psychological state of the parents. Various statistical procedures were performed to determine the prevalence, risk factors, and predictors of anxiety and depression. The prevalence for prenatal anxiety was 11.8% and for depressed mood 6.6%, whereas the postnatal prevalence was 25% for anxiety and 16.7% for depressed mood. The mother is influential in protecting against depression as a contact person (p = 0.035). Women were more affected by anxiety and depression than men (p = 0.036). A significant and positive correlation was observed between anxiety and depression before birth (ρ = 0.649, p < 0.001) and after birth (ρ = 0.808, p < 0.001). The level of education correlated negatively with depression (p = 0.016) and anxiety (p = 0.017) before birth. Significantly higher anxiety and depression scores were not observed among health and social workers (p = 0.084), first-time mothers (p = 0.190), and parents whose pregnancies were due to medical assistance (p = 0.051). Close collaboration between maternal-fetal care units, pediatric cardiologists and psychiatric/psychosomatic disciplines is a possible strategy to reduce stress in parents. Therefore, an expert team of professionals, educating with understandable terms and sufficient knowledge about fetal heart disease in parenting counseling, is required. Unilateral multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) is congenital anomaly which can be detected by ultrasound during antenatal period. The reported rate of MCDK ranges between 1 in 2,200 to 1 in 4,300 live births. This study was aimed to assess the determinants associated with the MCDK with follow-up until teens to evaluate the evolution of the disorder. This was an observational longitudinal study, involution degrees were observed following the baseline measurement of the size of the MCDK as documented on postnatal ultrasound, and long-term complications and renal function were also recorded. A total of 350 patients were identified, while 90 patients fulfilled the criteria of the study and completed the study duration of 10 years. Out of which 19 (21.1%) patients reported involution of MCDK size during follow-up as complete and partial, 7 (7.7%) within first year of age, 5 (5.5%) during first 2 years and 7 (7.7%) within 4 years of age. Large-sized MCDK at the time of diagnosis is less likely to involute through the first decade of life. However, conventional treatment is rational with the absence of complications.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of systemic immune‐inflammation index (SII) and other inflammatory parameters in the diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) and its histological subtypes. Methods: This retrospective case–control study included patients who underwent surgery for placenta previa (PP). Case group (patients with PAS) included pregnant women diagnosed with histologically confirmed PAS, whereas control group (patients with PP) included pregnant women who underwent cesarean section with a PP diagnosis, required no additional intervention during the operation. Both groups were compared with respect to their demographic data, clinical characteristics, SII, and other laboratory parameters. Cut‐off values that can predict PAS were calculated. The PAS group was separated into subgroups based on histology findings, and inflammatory parameters were compared between subgroups. Results: In this study, data of 273 patients were analyzed. Of these, 68 (24.9%) were included in the PAS group and 205 (75.1%) patients were included in the PP group. Significant differences were observed in SII, platelet distribution width, mean platelet volume, neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, and platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (p = 0.000, p = 0.006, p = 0.002, p = 0.000, and p = 0.000, respectively). The best SII cut‐off value was 985.02109/L (57.4% sensitivity and 72.2% specificity). There was no significant association between the histologic subtypes of PAS and inflammatory parameters. Conclusion: SII can be used to predict PAS in pregnant women with PP. The relationship between the histologic subtypes of PAS and inflammatory parameters should be investigated in more comprehensive studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Arteriovenous malformation of umbilical cord is an extremely rare congenital malformation. Causes of this condition are unknown. AVM of umbilical cord can cause significant complications in the developing fetus. Methods: We report our management of the case with accurate ultrasound study that could improve and facilitate the approach to this pathology due to the lack of literature and with an overview of the available literature. Results: There are only two cases of umbilical AVM diagnosed in the prenatal period with associated pathology. The mainstay of prenatal detection is the accurate study of umbilical cord also even if it is not requested from the actual guide lines in a way to improve the perinatal morbidity and mortality. Background: Gastroschisis often has a fatal outcome in developing countries. Its outcome is taken as an indicator of the level of healthcare in a particular healthcare facility. The aim was to study the outcome of the management of gastroschisis and to identify the main challenges of its treatment in a country with limited resources. Methods: This is a prospective and descriptive study conducted over a period of 4 years (2016-2020). It included all the neonates admitted to the two referral hospitals of our country with the diagnosis of gastroschisis. Each of the university hospitals had a neonatology unit. Parenteral nutrition and assisted ventilation were not available. Results: Twenty patients were admitted to our hospitals with an annual frequency of five cases. The sex ratio (M:F) was 1.5. Only one of the 20 mothers (5%) of the patients had an antenatal diagnosis and was the only one born in a university hospital. The remaining (19-95%) were referred to a university hospital after their birth. None of the 20 patients had received parenteral nutrition. Surgically, seven babies (35%) had benefited from the placement of a silo with progressive reduction of the bowels. The mortality of gastroschisis was 100% and the average life span of the patients was 4.5 days [1-20 days]. Conclusion: It is important to act appropriately on the whole chain of management of gastroschisis from antenatal diagnosis to treatment so that this pathology is no longer fatal for newborns in countries with limited resources.

Rare cardiac malpositions are faced with diagnostic challenges and may not follow set rules. The presence of more than one pathology simultaneously makes diagnosis challenging. Prenatal trisomy 21 (T21) screening commonly involves testing a maternal blood sample for fetal DNA aneuploidy. It is reliable but poses a cost barrier to universal screening. We hypothesized maternal plasma RNA screening might provide similar reliability but at a lower cost. Discovery experiments used plasma cell-free RNA from 20 women 11–13 weeks tested by RNA and miRNA microarrays followed by qRT-PCR. Thirty-six mRNAs and 18 small RNAs of the discovery cDNA were identified by qPCR as potential markers of embryonic T21. The second objective was validation of the RNA predictors in 998 independent pregnancies at 11–13 weeks including 50 T21. Initial analyses identified 9–15 differentially expressed RNA with modest predictive power (AUC < 0.70). The 54 RNAs were then subjected to machine learning. Eleven algorithms were trained on one partition and tested on an independent partition. The three best algorithms were identified by Kappa score and the effects of training/testing partition size and dataset class imbalance on prediction were evaluated. Six to ten RNAs predicted T21 with AUCs up to 1.00. The findings suggest that maternal plasma collected at 11–13 weeks, tested by qRT-PCR, and classified by machine learning, may accurately predict T21 for a lower cost than plasma DNA, thus opening the door to universal screening. Background: Although the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) is routinely recommended during pregnancy, the number of people who have the test is decreasing. Failure to perform the OGTT poses a risk for both mother and baby health. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the education given on the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test in the first antenatal follow-up of pregnant women on having the test. Methodology: In this study, 385 pregnant women (192 in the control group and 193 in the education group) were included. The present study was designed as a quasi-experimental study. The education group was provided with comprehensive education on the oral glucose tolerance test by the researcher after the questionnaire and then an education brochure on the oral glucose tolerance test. The pregnant women in both groups were contacted by phone between the 30th and 37th weeks of pregnancy and were asked whether they had the test or not. In data analysis, descriptive statistics, Chi-square independence test and Binary regression analysis were conducted. Results: Before the education, most pregnant women in both groups would not have OGTT in their current pregnancy (p>0.05). In the second interview after the education, 79.3% of the participants in the education group had oral glucose tolerance test, whereas only 38.5% of the participants in the control group had oral glucose tolerance test (p<0.05). The binary regression analysis results showed that the rate of having oral glucose tolerance test was higher in those with high school and university education (p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicated that the education provided using written, verbal, and visual methods based on scientific evidence in the first antenatal follow-ups increased the rate of having oral glucose tolerance test during pregnancy.
