Motivation in general, and social motivation in particular are important for interpersonal functioning in individuals with schizophrenia. Still, their roles after accounting for social cognition, are not well understood. The sample consisted of 147 patients with schizophrenia. General motivation was measured using the Behavioral inhibition/activation scale (BIS/BAS). Social motivation was measured by Passive social withdrawal and Active social avoidance items from PANSS. Interpersonal functioning was evaluated with Birchwoods Social Functioning Scale (SFS). We used Exploratory Graph Analysis for network estimation and community detection. Active social avoidance, passive social withdrawal, and social withdrawal/engagement (from SFS) were the most important nodes. In addition, three distinct communities were identified: Social cognition, Social motivation, and Interpersonal functioning. Notably, the BIS and BAS measures of general motivation were not part of any community. BAS showed stronger links to functioning than BIS. Passive social withdrawal was more strongly linked to interpersonal functioning than social cognitive abilities. Results suggest that social motivation, especially social approach, is more closely related to interpersonal functioning in schizophrenia than general motivation. In contrast, we found that general motivation was largely unrelated to social motivation. This pattern highlights the importance of type of motivation for understanding variability in interpersonal difficulties in schizophrenia.

This study aimed to determine the efficacy of the World Food Program to the pupils' performance of Binidayan Elementary School. This study utilized the descriptive qualitative, in which there were thirty (30) randomly selected Grades IV to VI pupils in Binidayan Elementary School, Binidayan District, Lanao del Sur II, ARMM. Findings revealed that the World Food Program has an effect on the increased of the academic performance, the behavior, the attendance, the nutritional status, and the enrollment of the respondent. There was no significant relationship between the status of World Food Program implementation to the academic performance, behavior, attendance, nutritional status (BMI) and enrollment of the respondent. One of the primary goals of World Food Programs was to provide meals or snacks to reduce short-term hunger in the classroom so that the students can concentrate and learned better, and to attract children to school and have them attend class regularly. Athletes use either an eight-step or a seven-step strategy to reach the first hurdle in the 110 m hurdles event. This study investigates the effect of step strategy on the hurdle clearance technique and spatio-temporal parameters of the four steps prior to hurdle clearance. Two-dimensional video data were collected in the sagittal plane from 12 male sprinters, grouped as seven-step (n = 6) or eight-step (n = 6) strategists. The take-off distance was 0.20 m further from the hurdle and the touchdown was 0.42 m closer to the hurdle for seven-step athletes. Additionally, seven-step athletes reduced the length of the final step before hurdle take-off by 0.14 m compared with the previous step, whereas the eight-step athletes extended their final step by 0.17 m. There was negligible difference between the mean horizontal velocities of the two groups throughout the hurdle clearance (0.02 m/s) or the approach time to the first hurdle from the block clearance (0.01 s). This presents an important first insight into the effect of the step strategy on the first hurdle kinematics. Our findings identify the take-off and touchdown distance parameters of the hurdle clearance technique, and approach step characteristics for a successful seven- or eight-step approach strategy to be employed. Classic motivational conflicts theory (Lewin, 1931) distinguishes between approach–approach, and avoidance–avoidance conflicts. Previous research has focused solely on testing the theory's prediction that avoidance–avoidance conflicts are more difficult to resolve than approach–approach ones, using outcome measures (decision time and self-reports). The theory, however, specifies a force-fields mechanism to account for this difference in conflict resolution difficulty, whereby avoidance–avoidance conflicts (compared to approach–approach ones) elicit more (a) oscillations and (b) return to the middle point between options. However, this force-fields mechanism has never been empirically tested, arguably due to a lack of the tools to do so. In five studies (N = 534 U.K. residents), we use mouse-tracking measures to provide insight into the force-fields mechanism. We show that the force-fields' mechanistic properties—oscillations and returns to the middle point—distinguish the two types of conflict and uniquely account for conflict resolution difficulty beyond standard conflict-strength measures. Moreover, we test a novel, theory-driven prediction and robustly show a differential pattern of increased oscillations as a function of the decision-maker's proximity to the decision options. Purpose: Septic arthritis of the hip in children and adolescents is a common condition requiring timely diagnosis and intervention. Surgical irrigation and debridement is typically performed through the anterior approach because of concerns about injury to the medial femoral circumflex artery leading to avascular necrosis. While there are multiple studies investigating the sequelae of anterior and medial approaches for reduction of developmental dislocation of the hip, none have compared these approaches for the pediatric septic hip. We hypothesize that there will be no significant difference in the rate of avascular necrosis when comparing the medial and anterior approaches to the septic hip in pediatric patients. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of pediatric septic hips treated with irrigation and debridement through either a medial or anterior approach at a single institution over an 18-year period of time. The primary outcome measure was the development of avascular necrosis. Results: Thirteen of 164 patients (7.9%) developed avascular necrosis. Avascular necrosis was noted in 9 of 101 patients who had anterior approach and 4 of 63 patients who underwent medial approach (p = 0.76). The average age for patients developing avascular necrosis was 10.0 years old versus 6.8 years old in patients who did not develop avascular necrosis (p = 0.01). The average follow-up was 3.3 years in patients with avascular necrosis versus 1.5 years for patients who did not develop avascular necrosis (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Medial approach to the pediatric septic hip does not increase the rate of avascular necrosis compared to the anterior approach. Aims: Steroid injections are used for subacromial pain syndrome and can be administered via the anterolateral or posterior approach to the subacromial space. It is not currently known which approach is superior in terms of improving clinical symptoms and function. This is the protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the clinical effectiveness of a steroid injection given via the anterolateral or the posterior approach to the subacromial space. Methods: The Subacromial Approach Injection Trial (SAInT) study is a single-centre, parallel, two-arm RCT. Participants will be allocated on a 1:1 basis to a subacromial steroid injection via either the anterolateral or the posterior approach to the subacromial space. Participants in both trial arms will then receive physiotherapy as standard of care for subacromial pain syndrome. The primary analysis will compare the change in Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) at three months after injection. Secondary outcomes include the change in OSS at six and 12 months, as well as the Pain Numeric Rating Scale (0 = no pain, 10 = worst pain), Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH), and 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) (RAND) at three months, six months, and one year after injection. Assessment of pain experienced during the injection will also be determined. A minimum of 86 patients will be recruited to obtain an 80% power to detect a minimally important difference of six points on the OSS change between the groups at three months after injection. Conclusion: The results of this trial will demonstrate if there is a difference in shoulder pain and function after a subacromial space steroid injection between the anterolateral versus posterior approach in patients with subacromial pain syndrome. Abstract Background This study aims to investigate international measures for pandemic control in the workplace based on guidelines from international organizations to learn from their experiences. Methods We conducted a qualitative study using content analysis. The search method involved reviewing published guidelines on preventing and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in workplaces. After the screening process, ten guidelines were included in the content analysis. During the analysis, 200 meaning codes, 49 subcategories, and eleven categories were identified. Trustworthiness criteria were utilized to ensure the accuracy and strength of the findings. Results Eleven categories of international content during the COVID-19 pandemic were legal requirements and duties of employees and employers, structural and program changes, risk assessment, risk communication, information and training, internal and external consultation and cooperation, provision of facilities and tools for workplace hygiene, special conditions, special groups, closing and reopening workplaces, reducing contact and exposure and mental health. Conclusions Protecting employees during a pandemic requires a multifaceted approach and strong advocacy. The operational plan for pandemic control should be developed based on the level of risk, with support tailored to employees’ conditions and needs. Cooperation among international organizations is essential to develop a standardized plan and issue comprehensive guidelines in response to health emergencies with a global perspective and local implementation, drawing from the lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Self-knowledge and its functionality has always been the focus of the scholars of humanities, especially in the field of philosophy. The objective of this paper is to study Imam Khomeini's approach to the subject of self-knowledge and its functions. Grounded theory has been applied in this qualitative study. The statistical population included all sources such as books, lectures, texts and letters of Imam Khomeini. The statistical sample included a total of 62 texts collected through purposeful method from different sources produced by Imam Khomeini related to self-knowledge. From source 48 onwards, the content within the text was repetitive and the data reached theoretical saturation. The data were analyzed through textual analysis within the framework of a conceptual model including the Causal conditions (causes and opportunities); Pivotal factors; Strategies; Underlying factors; Interference factors, facilitators (backers) and inhibitors (barriers), and ultimately consequences (results of self-knowledge). The findings show that a lifestyle consistent with true knowledge of the message of revelation and the program of primordial nature, turn of attention from acquired knowledge to intuitive knowledge and self-purification lead to self-knowledge. As a result of establishing a connection between knowledge of the self and the knowledge of the Lord, the potential talents inherent in human primordial nature are actualized. Hence, the rational soul will be attained and all the powers of the soul, including imagination, anger and lust, will surrender to the sane reason and the prophets’ messages and will turn to merciful armies, and eventually, the position of vicegerency of Allah and eternal happiness (felicity) will be achieved.

The study investigates the connectedness between commodities and ESG stocks of India using the extended joint connectedness approach. The study found a time-varying relationship between commodities and ESG stocks. It also discovered that there is a low spillover between the two. However, the total connectedness increased during the Russia-Ukraine war but remained low. The study found that crude oil and natural gas act as net transmitters, while ESG stocks and gold act as net receivers. ESG stocks are negatively connected with gold and have a low degree of positive correlation with crude oil and natural gas. Therefore, portfolio diversification opportunities exist between commodities and ESG stocks. The study exhibits that investors may derive significant benefits by adjusting their portfolios based on the optimum weights provided by the portfolio construction technique. The study provides valuable insights for portfolio managers, investors, and policymakers.

The Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach is an approach developed by the Freudenthal Institute, Utrecht University in the Netherlands. This research focuses on the learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SDN 11 Pontianak Kota which aims to answer three questions: (1) Student learning outcomes using the RME approach, (2) Student learning outcomes without using the RME approach, and (3) The average difference in student learning outcomes. The research method used quantitative research of quasi-experimental type with Nonequivalent control group design and data collection techniques through measurement techniques with instruments in the form of essay questions. The results of the research findings (1) Student learning outcomes using the RME approach were obtained at the pre-test value with an average of 11.76 and at the post-test value with an average of 73.80, (2) Student learning outcomes without using the RME approach were obtained at the pre-test value with an average of 14.12 and at the post-test value with an average of 50.40, and (3) Based on calculations using the N-Gain formula, the average learning outcomes were 70.87 and 42.39. So it is concluded that the class using the Realistic Mathematics Eduation (RME) approach is better than the class without the Realistic Mathematics Eduation (RME) approach.

Trigonal meningiomas are rare intraventricular tumours that present a surgical challenge. There is no consensus on the optimal surgical approach to these lesions, though the transtemporal and transparietal approaches are most frequently employed. We aimed to examine the approach-related morbidity and surgical nuances in treating trigonal meningiomas. This retrospective review assimilated data from 64 trigonal meningiomas operated over 15 years. Details of clinicoradiological presentation, surgical approach and intraoperative impression, pathology and incidence of various postoperative deficits were recorded. In our study, Trigonal meningiomas most frequently presented with headache and visual deterioration. The median volume of tumours was 63.6cc. Thirty-one meningiomas each (48.4%) were WHO Grade 1 and WHO Grade 2, while 2 were WHO Grade 3. The most frequent approach employed was transtemporal (38 patients, 59.4%), followed by transparietal (22 patients, 34.4%). After surgery features of raised ICP and altered mental status resolved in all patients, while contralateral limb weakness resolved in 80%, aphasia in 60%, seizures in 70%, and vision loss in 46.2%. Eighteen patients (28.13%) developed transient postoperative neurological deficits, with one patient (1.5%) developing permanent morbidity. Surgery for IVMs results in rapid improvement of neurological status, though visual outcomes are poorer in patients with low vision prior to surgery, longer duration of complaints and optic atrophy. The new postoperative deficits in some patients tend to improve on follow up. Transtemporal and transparietal approaches may be employed, based on multiple factors like tumour extension, loculation of temporal horn, size of lesion with no significant difference in their safety profile. Exposure treatment involves systematic confrontation with fear-inducing stimuli, effectively reducing fear and anxiety. However, a significant number of clients still experience a return of fear (ROF) after treatment. This study investigates whether incorporating an approach component during fear extinction, a laboratory exposure analog, could mitigate this return of fear. Furthermore, we explored the underlying mechanisms by drawing on predictions from the inhibitory learning theory and the reflective-impulsive model of behavior. In a within-subjects design, we compared instructed active approach of a stimulus during extinction to more passive non-avoidance. Contrary to expectations, our findings revealed that performing approach behavior during extinction did not reduce ROF when compared to non-avoidance. Furthermore, valence and action tendencies, which were potential mechanisms based on the reflective-impulsive model of behavior, remained unaltered. Still, a noteworthy discovery emerged in the form of increased threat expectancies for the approached stimulus during extinction, suggesting a heightened level of expectancy violation, as predicted on the basis of the inhibitory learning theory. These findings offer valuable insights into the intricate relationship between approach behavior, ROF, and underlying mechanisms, highlighting the need for further research to assess the potential benefits of emphasizing approach in exposure treatment. Background: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) are benign bone tumors that can be locally aggressive, leading to joint destruction or pathologic fractures. In rare cases, they can progress to lung metastasis and death. The management modalities of GCTs include medical treatment, curettage, cryotherapy, and resection and reconstruction, including arthroplasty. Objective: The current case report aimed to discuss alternative treatment options to the reported case of GCT. Case report: The reported case showed a healthy 25-years-old man with left hip joint pain progressing over six months. The pain was resistant to lifestyle modifications and medications. Investigations resulted in the diagnosis of a GCT in the left femur head. The management included a preoperative course of denosumab, surgical dislocation of the left hip, lesion curettage, irrigation, and bone graft and cementation. Our plan was a good alternative because it is a low-cost surgery that resulted in regaining the same previous level of activities without limitations. The plan showed excellent outcomes, but more cases and long-term follow-up are needed in further studies. The aim of the case report was to discuss alternative treatment options for the reported case of GCT. Conclusion: A criterion standard treatment option for GCT in the femur is lacking. In the current case, a GCT of the femoral head was treated with an initial course of denosumab for six months, followed by curettage, bone grafting and cementing packing. The outcome showed that this alternative modality yielded functionally and radiologically acceptable results. In addition, the treatment plan was simple and cost-effective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Creating an optimal environment that addresses the users' psychological and behavioral needs requires a deep understanding of mental processes. Advances in neuroscience and applying its technical methods, such as neuroimaging, have provided the possibility to make an objective exploration of how architecture affects users' brain reactions. This study aims to objectify the effects of spatial characteristics of architectural settings on the brain's responses and the users' approach-avoidance behavior. Therefore, to determine the regional activation of the nervous system responsible for emotions and approach-avoidance behavior, participants' brains were scanned with functional magnetic resonance imaging while looking at photographs of architectural spaces. Results showed that the pleasant and unpleasant spaces activate the brain structures involved in positive and negative emotions. Additionally, pleasant and unpleasant spaces were more likely to elicit inter and exit decisions and activate the brain's regions engaged in approach and avoidance decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Does the biography of a philosopher have any relevance to assessing their philosophy? After considering and rejecting three distinct treatments of this question, a different answer is articulated here. Distinguishing between the content and approach of a philosophical text, this article argues that biography is relevant to assessing the approach of the text in three ways: in its socio‐historical context, its philosophical context, and its personal context in the life of the philosopher. An INCOSE‐wide initiative has exposed at least 600 heuristics. Previous work indicates that rationalizing and simplifying this set to make it useful and memorable is difficult, if not intractable. Difficulty Assessment Tools (DATs) have been used for years to characterize the difficulty of a problem and provide tailored advice. This paper explores using a DAT to characterize the problem, and using the outputs to provide heuristic and other forms of advice. To test this approach, 50 heuristics and 10 principles were scored and embedded into an online DAT. An experiment was conducted to determine whether the DAT discussion, recommended approach, and heuristic/principles advice were useful. All teams considered the discussion very useful. As might be expected, the results indicated that the heuristic usefulness was a function of the teams' experience and familiarity with the task. The tool prioritization of suitable heuristics met developers' expectations, but was undetected by the users. This maybe because the heuristics were a hand‐picked set of 50 Heuristics from a set of 600+, meaning all were highly useful. Further work is proposed to check this assessment. Background: Falcotentorial meningiomas (FM) are surgical challenges for protecting sinus, and the technique notes on the management of superior sagittal or transverse sinus are required for good results. Methods: We improved the technique notes on the management of superior sagittal or transverse sinus in three FMpatients with signs of increased intracranial pressure or chronic headache. Results: All patients underwent surgeries in the prone position, and occipital/sup-occipital/sub-occipital craniotomy was performed. In one patient, the skull was removed traditionally with exposure of the confluence of sinuses, superior sagittal, and transverse sinus, while the longitudinal skull bridge was left to suspend the dura for protecting the superior sagittal sinus in one patient, and the transverse skull bridge was left to suspend the dura for protecting the transverse sinus in one patient. The dura was opened infratentorially or supratentorially to spare the sinus and then the "skull bridge" was suspended. The tumor was then removed completely without brain swelling or significant venous bleeding. Complete tumor resection was confirmed by early postoperative imaging, and all patients recovered well without postoperative morbidity. Conclusion: The authors recommend the "skull bridge" to suspend the dura for optimal control of the venous sinuses during FM surgery (less venous bleeding). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Brain cavernomas or cavernous angiomas are a rare vascular malformation in the general population, even more so in pediatric patients. Their incidence in this group is less than 5% of all vascular malformations. They are typically found in the cerebral hemispheres in cortico-subcortical locations and, more rarely, in the brainstem. Objective: To describe the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of a case involving a pediatric patient with a giant cavernoma in the brainstem at J.P. Garrahan Hospital. Materials and methods: The clinical history of the case was retrieved from the database of J.P. Garrahan Pediatric Hospital. Additionally, a literature search was conducted in high-impact factor journals using the PubMed database. Conclusion: Both the authors of this study and experts consulted through the literature agree that, given the eloquence of the affected area and its challenging accessibility, close monitoring and an expectant approach are advisable for such patients. Nevertheless, when the onset of the case warrants it, surgical intervention is deemed necessary in emergency situations and following the acute phase for complete resolution of the pathology. Evaluation competency frameworks across the globe regard evaluation approaches as important to know and use in practice. Prior classifications have been developed to aid in understanding important differences among varying approaches. Nevertheless, there is an opportunity for a new classification of evaluation approaches, in particular one that is practitioner-oriented, intended to guide decision-making in practice, and inclusive of all scholarship. The evaluation garden presented in this article begins to map approaches against eight dimensions of practice and situates them in their philosophical orientations and methodological dispositions. This allows for approach comparison, a more nuanced understanding of where they overlap and differ, and how and where they can be intentionally combined. The goal is to offer a visual classification that addresses prior criticisms, that is of use to a wide range of audiences, and that helps evaluation practitioners be able to more easily integrate evaluation approaches in practice. Social behaviors are guided in part by motivational and emotional responses to affective facial expressions. In daily life, facial expressions communicate varying degrees social reward signals (happiness), social threat signals (anger), or social reward-threat conflict signals (co-occurring happiness and anger). Thus, motivational and emotional responses must be sensitive to variations in social signal intensity to effectively guide social behavior. We recently developed a novel social approach-avoidance paradigm (SAAP), which uses morphed facial expressions to assess sensitivity to linear increases in social reward and/or social threat intensity. Prior to large-scale studies validating the test quality of the SAAP, however, it is necessary to first establish the psychometric properties and generalizability of these sensitivity metrics. In Study 1, we independently replicated SAAP task effects and demonstrated that motivational and emotional sensitivity measures exhibit strong psychometric properties and robust individual variability. In Study 2, we demonstrated that more complex social judgements (e.g., trustworthiness) are also sensitive to linear increases in social signal intensity, which differs across judgements. Although future research in larger samples will be needed to establish the test quality of the SAAP, these preliminary findings suggest that the SAAP exhibits adequate psychometric properties to justify this type of large-scale individual differences research. A novel methodology has been established which allows to recycle steel slag as a suitable flux for submerged arc welding. The flux produced using waste slag as a raw material has been applied to deposit beads on plates. The bead geometry is dependent on welding parameters; hence optimization of parameters is essential. In this cut throat competition, researchers are striving to minimize the cost of experimentation using various experimental and optimization techniques to reduce number of experiments for save time, money, and resources. In this article various techniques have been explored for better optimized results. The welding parameters have been optimized to obtain desired bead geometry using various optimization techniques such as genetic and teaching–learning-based optimization algorithm, and desirability. It was observed that the genetic algorithm technique provides better results having a minimum error of penetration, bead width, and reinforcement (i.e. 1.12%, 1.83%, and 2.46%, respectively), as compared with other techniques applied. It is further observed that flux manufactured from waste slag is capable to produce desired bead profile which is similar with that of the fresh flux. Recycled slag is capable to produce optimum bead geometry having maximum penetration of 11.52 mm, bead width 20.73 mm, and reinforcement 3.24 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The assessment of the linkage between quality and several SDGs is crucial due to the significant impact quality has on multiple dimensions. This study employs a comprehensive methodology to elucidate the various dimensions of quality. Additionally, it examines the relationship between quality and multiple SDGs, a topic that has not been previously investigated. Design/Methodology/Approach: The question arises here that how maintaining quality leads to sustainability; well this question is answered in this study through a content analysis of previous studies and showing the importance of theme quality in various aspects of sustainability like TBL, sustainable development goals (SDGs), etc. Findings: Quality has proven to be an admirable approach towards sustainability. The risen need for sustainability has brought many perspectives of the world. It can be environmental, social and economic and further these aspects have their own areas for improvement. The complexity of the structure of sustainability requires a basic common area to be focused on, and in this study, quality has proven to be one. Implications: Through the SDGs it can be derived that each goal had an area where quality needed to be worked on. The several zones of quality are interlinked. Quality of life will automatically improve the education, health water and sanitation services. Therefore, the focus should be laid on attaining sustainability through quality. Quality is achieving excellence in something or a substance that satisfies the requirements needed from it or the resources are utilised effectively and efficiently. Originality/Value: This study uses a holistic approach in which dimensions of quality have been explained and further the linkage of quality with different SDGs was assessed which has not yet been explored earlier. Objectives: Misplacement of the CI electrode array is one of the rarest complications of cochlear implant surgery. This condition can be noticed intraoperatively and diagnosed radiologically in the early postoperative period. To present a novel and minimally invasive revision approach for a misplaced cochlear implant (CI) electrode array. Case: In this case report, the authors present a previously undescribed alternative minimally invasive revision cochlear implantation approach for a patient with a misplaced CI electrode array in the right ear who underwent bilateral simultaneous cochlear implantation one and a half years ago at another center. Conclusion: To correct CI electrode array misplacement, the endoscopic transcanal approach is a safe and effective alternative to the conventional approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inhibition (a temperamental profile characterized by elevated levels of avoidance behaviors) is associated with increased likelihood for developing anxiety and depression, whereas exuberance (a temperamental profile characterized by elevated levels of approach behaviors) is associated with increased likelihood for developing externalizing conditions (e.g., attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and conduct disorder). However, not all children who exhibit high levels of approach or avoidance behaviors develop emotional or behavioral problems. In this preregistered study, we assessed context‐dependent profiles of approach and avoidance behaviors in 3‐year‐old children (N = 366). Using latent profile analysis, four groups were identified: nonsocial approachers, social approachers, social avoiders, and nonsocial avoiders. Analyses revealed that there were minimal differences in internalizing and externalizing symptoms across the four context‐dependent groups. However, exploratory analyses assessed whether high levels of approach or avoidance combined across contexts, similar to findings reported in prior work, were related to psychopathology. Children identified as high in avoidance behavior at 3 years of age were more likely to show internalizing symptoms at 3 years of age but not at 5 years of age. Children high in approach were more likely to meet criteria for anxiety and externalizing disorders by age 5 years. These findings further our understanding of individual differences in how young children adjust their behavior based on contextual cues and may inform methods for identifying children at increased likelihood for the development of emotional and behavioral problems. Research Highlights: Context‐dependent approach and avoidance profiles were identified in 3‐year‐old children using a person‐centered approach.Children who were high in approach behavior, regardless of context, at age three had a higher likelihood for developing an anxiety or externalizing disorder by age five.These findings may help identify children at increased risk of developing emotional and behavioral problems. Peacekeeping is a central element of Russian foreign policy. The country has been deploying peacekeeping troops under highly controversial circumstances for more than three decades. A major power and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Russia obviously plays an important role in defining the standards by which peacekeeping is and may be done. When Russian troops invaded Ukraine in an unprovoked aggression on 24 February 2022, Russian politicians initially referred to them as 'peacekeeping troops'. This led UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to declare his concern about 'the perversion of the concept of peacekeeping'. This article offers a discussion of the Russian approach to peacekeeping as this has been and is being expressed in both recent conceptual thinking and implementation. Relying on a large pool of Russian policy documents and scholarly works, the article finds that Russia is likely to execute more operations with a lowered threshold for intervention and under conditions of greater flexibility. It is a more pragmatic approach. Operations will increasingly be designed comprehensively across the physical, cyber and cognitive domains and will include the use of private military companies. Assuming that the deformation of the threads of the screw, nut and locknut are caused mainly by the contact flexibility of their working surface, the load distribution along the threads of the screw is studied. It is found that if the locknut is tightened with a force equal to half the tightening force of the nut, then the loads on the first turns of the nut and locknut will become the same, amounting to approximately half the load on the most loaded turn of the screw tightened without a locknut. The research looks at how the COVID-19 pandemic affected vulnerability and economic strength in 150 countries between 2020 and 2021. By using the Panel Smooth Transition Regression model, it discovered a complex connection between different factors. The pandemic made countries more vulnerable and weakened their economic resilience. This highlights the need for nations to boost their strength by taking steps such as broadening their economies, investing in healthcare, creating support programs, maintaining trade, and building stronger economic defenses against both pandemicrelated vulnerabilities and natural disasters. Ultimately, the article stresses the importance of countries reinforcing their resilience through strong policies and actions that cover different aspects of their economies and healthcare systems, addressing the challenges brought on by the pandemic and potential future crises. Chronic diarrhea in children is challenging both with regards to etiological diagnosis and for management. Etiology and pathophysiological mechanisms vary widely from neonates to adolescents. Congenital or genetic causes are more frequent in neonates, while infections, allergy and immune-mediated mechanisms are more frequent in childhood. A thorough history and proper physical examination are required to decide for further diagnostic evaluation. The approach to a child with chronic diarrhea should be age specific and based predominantly on the pathophysiological mechanism involved. The nature of the stool like watery, bloody or fatty (steatorrhea) can suggest the probable etiology and organ system involved. After routine tests, evaluation with specific serological tests, imaging, endoscopy (gastroscopy/colonoscopy), histopathology of intestinal mucosa, breath tests or radionuclide imaging may be required to make a definitive diagnosis. Genetic evaluation is important in congenital diarrheas, monogenic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and immunodeficiency disorders. Management is aimed at stabilization, nutritional support and etiology specific treatment. Specific therapy can be as simple as exclusion of specific nutrient or as complicated as small bowel transplant. Evaluation and management require expertise and thus patients need to be referred in a timely fashion. This will minimise morbidity including nutritional consequences and improve outcome. Background and Aims: One of the greatest public health problems of the 21st century is undernutrition in children under the age of 5 years (CAUFY). Globally, over 232 million CUAFY are undernourished and approximately 45% of mortality in this population are undernutrition‐induced. This paper reviewed and critically explained the factors perpetuating undernutrition in CUAFY in the global space. It further explained the multi‐level determinants that influence health inequalities and consequently exacerbate undernutrition amongst CUAFY globally. It also went further to explain the intervention models and approaches that can be used to tackle undernutrition in CUAFY. Methods/Literature Search Strategy: Demiris et al.'s approach to narrative review was utilized for this paper. Relevant articles on child nutrition were retrieved from multiple credible databases and websites of foremost health organizations. Using an iterative process, multiple combinations of search terms were done by stringing relevant key terms and their synonyms with Boolean Operators. This process was constantly refined to align search results with the study aim. Database search produced relevant and resourceful publications which were utilized to develop this review. Results: The global burden of undernutrition remains high, especially in Oceania with the highest prevalence of stunting and wasting (41.4% and 12.5%), with Africa and Asia following closely. Malnutrition eradication is a global health issue of high priority as demonstrated by the "Goal 2" of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the United Nations (UN) Decade of Action on Nutrition 2016–2025. The review identified no significant positive outcome from previous interventions due to the endemic health inequalities. Determinants of the multi‐level health inequalities associated with undernutrition in CUAFY, and probable solutions are explained with theoretical models of health inequalities. A diagonal intervention approach was proposed as a viable solution to ending undernutrition in CUAFY. Conclusion: The application of relevant theoretical models and context‐specific intervention approaches can be utilized by stakeholders to close the existing inequality gaps, thereby reducing undernutrition amongst CUAFY globally. Motivation to work for potential rewards is critically dependent on dopamine (DA) in the nucleus accumbens (NAc). DA release from NAc axons can be controlled by at least two distinct mechanisms: (1) action potentials propagating from DA cell bodies in the ventral tegmental area (VTA), and (2) activation of β2* nicotinic receptors by local cholinergic interneurons (CINs). How CIN activity contributes to NAc DA dynamics in behaving animals is not well understood. We monitored DA release in the NAc Core of awake, unrestrained rats using the DA sensor RdLight1, while simultaneously monitoring or manipulating CIN activity at the same location. CIN stimulation rapidly evoked DA release, and in contrast to slice preparations, this DA release showed no indication of short-term depression or receptor desensitization. The sound of unexpected food delivery evoked a brief joint increase in CIN population activity and DA release, with a second joint increase as rats approached the food. In an operant task, we observed fast ramps in CIN activity during approach behaviors, either to start the trial or to collect rewards. These CIN ramps co-occurred with DA release ramps, without corresponding changes in the firing of lateral VTA DA neurons. Finally, we examined the effects of blocking CIN influence over DA release through local NAc infusion of DHβE, a selective antagonist of β2* nicotinic receptors. DHβE dose-dependently interfered with motivated approach decisions, mimicking the effects of a DA antagonist. Our results support a key influence of CINs over motivated behavior via the local regulation of DA release.

PURPOSE: The approach to the treatment of enchondromas of the hand is varied, and there is no clear consensus on graft source, fixation, or need for intraoperative adjuvant therapy. We reviewed a cohort of patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting with cancellous allograft chips without internal fixation or adjuvant therapy and reported on postoperative range of motion (ROM) and recurrence rates. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent surgical treatment for hand enchondroma over a 23-year period. We collected information on demographics and presenting enchondroma characteristics, including Takigawa classification and presence of pathologic fracture or associated syndromes. Patients were treated with open biopsy with curettage and grafting with cancellous allograft chips. Postoperative ROM, complications, and recurrences were recorded. RESULTS: Our series included 111 enchondromas in 104 patients. Seventeen of 104 patients (16%) had a diagnosis of Ollier disease. Average length of follow-up was 3.1 years. Eighty-one percent of patients achieved full ROM. Treatment of patients who presented with preoperative pathologic fracture resulted in a greater frequency of reduced postoperative ROM at 28% (9/32) compared to 15% (11/72) of those patients who did not present with preoperative pathologic fracture. Local recurrence developed in 5 of 50 (10%) patients with a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. Local recurrence occurred at higher-than-average rates in patients with giant form Takigawa classification (43%, 3/7) and Ollier disease (23%, 3/13). CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of enchondromas with biopsy, curettage, and allograft results in full ROM in 81% of patients. Patients with preoperative pathologic fracture should be advised of a greater risk of postoperative extension deficit. Recurrence remains rare and is associated with syndromic presentation and giant form lesions. TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic IV.

Extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA), a pervasive yet enigmatic component of the eukaryotic genome, exists autonomously from its chromosomal counterparts. Ubiquitous in eukaryotes, eccDNA plays a critical role in the orchestration of cellular processes and the etiology of diseases, particularly cancers. However, the full scope of its influence on health and disease remains elusive, presenting a rich vein of research yet to be mined. Unraveling the complexities of eccDNA necessitates a distillation of methodologies — from biogenesis to functional analysis — a landscape we overview in this study with precision and clarity. Here, we systematically outline cutting-edge methodologies from high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics to experimental validations, showcasing the intricate world of eccDNAs. We combed through a treasure trove of auxiliary research resources and analytical tools. Moreover, we chart a course for future inquiry, illuminating the horizon with potential groundbreaking strategies for designing eccDNA research projects and pioneering new methodological frontiers.

Background: The Garden of Evaluation Approaches (Montrosse-Moorhead, et al., 2024a) maps evaluation approaches against eight dimensions of practice and situates them in their philosophical orientations and methodological dispositions. Purpose: The Garden’s guiding question is: How do evaluation approaches compare in terms of dimensions that facilitate use and application? Primary intended users are evaluation practitioners, and secondary intended users include ecosystem actors (e.g., clients, program participants, funders), educators, researchers, and theoreticians. Setting: Not applicable. Intervention: Not applicable. Research Design: Exploratory sequential mixed methods. Data Collection and Analysis: Data collection and analysis included locating and reading primary sources for each evaluation approach. One team member thematically coded each source for evidence of an approach’s stance on the eight dimensions of practice, its’ philosophical orientation and methodological disposition, and steps for implementing the approach in practice. This qualitative evidence was used to generate ordinal ratings for the eight dimensions using a rating scale developed by the team, and to classify the approaches' philosophical orientation and methodological disposition. Drafts of handouts summarizing qualitative and quantitative data were reviewed by the two other team members, with dialogue and deliberation among all members used to come to consensus. Findings: The first iteration of the Garden includes seven approaches: fourth generation evaluation, made in Africa, nation-to-nation evaluation, practical participatory evaluation, sistematización de experiencias, theory-driven evaluation, and transformative participatory evaluation. Each approach is represented as a flower within the Garden, with each petal corresponding to the approaches’ stance on one of the eight dimensions of practice. The colors of the flowers represent the underlying philosophical foundation of the approach. The pattern within the central disc of each flower represents the methodological disposition encouraged by the approach. Summaries of the empirical mixed-method analysis are made transparent in supporting handouts. Future work will grow flowers for additional approaches and continue to map out the Garden.

This article explores the significance of listening as a critical skill in foreign language teaching (FLT). While mastery of all four language skills--listening, speaking, reading, and writing--is essential for language competence, listening holds a foundational role, especially in the context of early language acquisition. The article emphasizes that effective listening is key to developing other language skills and successful communication. Challenges in teaching and learning listening are discussed, including issues such as insufficient vocabulary, lack of concentration, and the difficulty of understanding unfamiliar accents. The article also offers practical strategies for improving listening skills, such as selecting appropriate audio materials, engaging with English films and podcasts, and focusing on correct pronunciation. The conclusion reinforces the idea that listening is a skill that can be cultivated and is essential for meaningful communication, both in language learning and in broader social contexts. The article advocates for the prioritization of listening in FLT and encourages teachers to find suitable approaches to enhance students' listening abilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main idea of this research was inspired from a desire to clarify some of artist Wassily Kandinsky's Starting points and artistic premises in abstraction and to benefit from them as an entrance for teaching the principles of abstract painting and enriching the art work painting for the art student. The aim of the research is to study the premises of Wassily Kandinsky, both the artistic and intellectual premises, as an entrance for art teaching for students of the fourth year, Department of Art Education, Faculty of Specific Education, Menoufia University in 2020/2021, and also, it aims at enriching the art of abstraction for students of the fourth year, Department of Art Education, Faculty of Specific Education, Menoufia University in 2020/2021 through studying these premises. The researcher studied 4 axises in the theoretical point of view art of 1st axis is about abstraction and its types 2nd axis: is the theory of abstraction art in Kandinsky school.3rd axis: Kandinsky general art premises.4th axis: the way of Kandinsky in abstracting the curves from Greet Baloka dances. The continuous growth of urban populations and the complexities of their current management in Africa have driven local governments to explore new technologies to optimize their urban and territorial performance. These governments and related stakeholders’ resort to the term “smart city” to orient the current urban planning policies and practices to be more efficient and adequate. Nevertheless, the issue that remains is how to contextualize this global term that has not yet been fully adopted by African cities that have claimed to be “Smart”. This contextualization becomes more complex in this critical context, where the city has not yet reached an ideal performance. Therefore, to reach this prospective African smart city, a critical review of how it would be both human-centered and techno-centered is imperative. This paper would review accordingly the above argument and set key performance indicator-based methodology on how to evaluate the smartness of a city in the African context.
