The main objective of the present study was to examine the relationship between Instagram addiction and objectified body awareness. The sample involved 248 Mexican participants, 68% women and 100% claimed to be users of the Instagram social network. Age ranged from 18 to 24 years, averaging 21 years. The methodology was quantitative and correlational, and contributors agreed to participate voluntarily. The participants showed a slightly above-average addiction to Instagram that correlated positively with factor 1 of the Self Objectification Scale, Self-vigilance, and negatively with factor 2 (Body shame). The present study showed that physical appearance is not significantly related to the use of Instagram and that, on the contrary, less body shame is associated with using this social network. Within the scope of this study, results suggest that using Instagram may bring advantages but also disadvantages, as social media can facilitate social support and the strengthening of self-concept. However, it is also possible for it to lead to self-exploitation. Therefore it is essential to make society aware of this app's moderate and safe use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introducción: Los problemas de salud mental que presentan las personas cuyos hijos ya no viven con ellas merecen mayor atención. El estudio de la autopercepción del envejecimiento y sus factores influyentes en esta población puede ayudar a la prevención de percepciones negativas del envejecimiento. Objetivo: Analizar las situaciones y factores influyentes en la autopercepción del envejecimiento de los adultos mayores cuyos hijos ya no viven con ellos, específicamente, el rol mediador de las actividades de la vida diaria y la soledad. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal en 2 comunidades de la ciudad de Binzhou, provincia de Shandong, China. Se estudiaron 613 adultos mayores cuyos hijos ya no vivían con ellos, aplicando un cuestionario de información general, el Cuestionario Breve de Percepción del Envejecimiento (B-APQ), la Escala de Actividades de la Vida Diaria (ADL) y la Escala de Soledad de la Universidad de California (ULS-6). Se utilizaron modelos de ecuaciones estructurales para analizar las relaciones entre las variables. Resultados: El análisis de los factores influyentes en el envejecimiento autopercibido muestra que el estado civil, las visitas de los hijos y la soledad afectan de manera indirecta la autopercepción del envejecimiento. Asimismo, las enfermedades crónicas y la capacidad para realizar las actividades de la vida diaria afectan de manera indirecta la autopercepción del envejecimiento. Discusión: La capacidad para realizar actividades de la vida diaria, las enfermedades crónicas, salir, la soledad, el estado de salud autoreportado, el estado civil y las visitas de los hijos son algunos factores que influyen en la autopercepción del envejecimiento en esta población. Conclusión: La autopercepción del envejecimiento de las personas cuyos hijos ya no viven con ellas es relativamente negativa y hay muchos factores influyentes. Es importante mejorar el manejo que se le da a la salud de esta población, aumentando las actividades al aire libre y el cuidado de sus familiares e implementando intervenciones integrales para ayudarlos en el tratamiento del envejecimiento.

To date, most studies that explore the differences in motivation between content and language‐integrated learning (CLIL) and non‐CLIL learners have been mainly quantitative or have not controlled for differences in socio‐economic status (SES). While many researchers agree that CLIL learners tend to have greater motivation than non‐CLIL learners, there has been little explanation of the reasons behind this difference, perhaps partly because the field lacks studies from the perspective of CLIL students themselves. Based on the L2 motivational self‐system and the construct of self‐concept, this study employed a mixed‐methods approach to explore CLIL and non‐CLIL learners' current and future self‐visions. Fifteen‐year‐old learners in the Madrid region (n = 348) completed a questionnaire that considered their SES levels as well as experiences related to the scales of English self‐concept, academic self‐concept, and teacher expectations. The same learners were then invited to take part in focus groups in which researchers delved into the reasoning behind their motivation. Despite no significant difference in SES levels between CLIL and non‐CLIL learner groups, CLIL participants are found to display a slightly more positive self‐concept and more robust ideal L2 self‐visions, which may explain the perceived greater motivation among CLIL learners to study (in) English. Furthermore, the L2 ought‐to self is found to be a secondary, yet potentially positive force toward higher motivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La violencia en las parejas es un suceso que está en continuo estudio, con un impacto devastador en la salud física y emocional de quienes la sufren, así como en su autoconcepto y autoestima. Este artículo explora la relación entre la violencia en las parejas y el autoconcepto, analizando cómo la victimización puede incidir en la percepción que los seres humanos tienen de sí mismas y en su capacidad para establecer relaciones saludables. El objetivo general fue predecir la viabilidad de exponer altas estimaciones en los factores de violencia física, sexual, relacional y coercitiva dependiendo de los elementos de autoconcepto. La muestra se conformó por 996 estudiantes universitarios de la Universidad de Alicante, provenientes de siete facultades, con edades que se ubican alrededor de los 18 y los 52 años. La técnica estadística utilizada fue la regresión logística, siguiendo el procedimiento de pasos hacia delante basado en el estadístico de Wald. Los instrumentos seleccionados para la recogida de datos fueron el cuestionario CEPIU, que evalúa la violencia de género en las relaciones afectivo-heterosexuales, y el cuestionario SQII abreviado, un instrumento de autoinforme que examina el autoconcepto en jóvenes adolescentes. Como conclusión, se encontró que los elementos de autoconcepto crean esquemas predictivos de manera individual con cada uno de los factores y también para la estimación total del CEPIU.

Background: Appraisals are central to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Yet, few studies have examined how culture influences the associations between different types of trauma-related appraisals and PTSD symptoms.Objective: This study investigated cultural influences on appraisals of control and their associations with PTSD symptoms.Method: European Australian (n = 140, Mage = 35.80, SD = 12.44; 21 men, 97 women, 20 gender diverse/prefer not to report) and Chinese Australian (n = 129, Mage = 30.16, SD = 8.93, 21 men, 97 women, 20 gender diverse/prefer not to report) trauma survivors completed measures of appraisals, cultural values, and PTSD symptoms.Results: Findings showed that the Chinese Australian group was associated with greater Chinese cultural beliefs about adversity (i.e. emphasizing the value of adversity and people’s ability to overcome adversity) and fewer fatalism appraisals (i.e. appraising one's destiny as externally determined), which in turn were atemporally associated with fewer PTSD symptoms; these atemporal indirect associations were moderated by self-construal and holistic thinking. The Chinese Australian group also reported fewer secondary control appraisals (i.e. attempts to change aspects of the self and accept current circumstances), which were atemporally associated with greater PTSD symptoms. In contrast, the European Australian group was associated with fewer primary control appraisals (i.e. perceived ability to personally change or control a situation), which were atemporally associated with greater PTSD symptoms.Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of considering the influence of culture on appraisals in PTSD. However, it must be noted that causal relationships cannot be inferred from cross-sectional mediation analyses and thus, future longitudinal research is needed.

The objective of this research was to establish the relationship between selfconcept, academic performance and gender among undergraduate students at a public university in the city of Pasto, Colombia. It was approached from an integrative perspective, with dominant status and sequential order: quantitative→ qualitative. A total of 684 students from first to tenth semester of 11 faculties participated. The AF5 Self-Concept test, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were used. The most significant findings show a correlation between academic self-concept and performance. Likewise, a correlation was found between emotional self-concept and performance in women. In the qualitative phase, categories such as stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination associated mainly with women and sexual diversities emerged, along with protective factors and coping styles in mental health. It is concluded that prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination shape self-concept, but protective factors and coping styles allow overcoming these challenges and achieving academic success. 20. Bonding Profile of Coffee Harvesters in the Municipality of Circasia (Quindío).

Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the bonding profile of a sample of coffee harvesters in the municipality of Circasia, Quindío. Methodology: The design was based on a quantitative approach, descriptive in nature, and exploratory in scope. Fifty coffee harvesters were interviewed through non-probabilistic purposive sampling. The information was collected using The Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, Social Well-Being Scale, Rootedness to Place Scale, and Perceived Social Support Scale. Results: It was found that harvesters show low percentiles in social contribution and cultural rootedness. Likewise, some associations between variables were found, among which the association between the perception of familial relationships and social acceptance (X² = 10.409; P = 0.03), and also between relationships with coworkers and cultural rootedness (X² = 12.041; P = 0.00). The study variables were correlated; most correlations are reported between the dimensions of perceived social support and self-concept. Conclusions: It is concluded that the Bonding profile corresponding to the indicated sample is constituted on the basis of the perception of social and familial support, and that these are related to the capacity for rootedness and self-concept. La violencia en el contexto universitario es una grave preocupación en la enseñanza superior, debido al creciente número de episodios violentos entre los jóvenes. La modalidad deportiva practicada junto con factores psicosociales como el autoconcepto o la inteligencia emocional contrarrestan de forma eficaz estas conductas disruptivas. El objetivo de este estudio fue comprobar la relación entre el tipo de deporte practicado, el autoconcepto y la inteligencia emocional con la violencia en estudiantes universitarios. El estudio se realizó con una muestra de 1,057 estudiantes universitarios españoles en la que el 43.8 % (n = 463) eran mujeres y el 56.2 % (n = 594) eran hombres. Se utilizó el test TMMS-24 para medir la inteligencia emocional y la escala AF-5 para medir el autoconcepto. Se observó cómo los que no practican deporte presentan tasas más elevadas de violencia directa e indirecta. Asimismo, los jóvenes que practican deportes de contacto son los que presentan mayores tasas de violencia directa. Es necesario promover la práctica de actividad física relacionada con el desarrollo de la inteligencia emocional para reducir los comportamientos violentos.

The aim of this paper is to establish which parenting style is associated with optimum outcomes among adolescents of Spanish families considering adolescents with low vs. high self-efficacy. Although classical studies identify the authoritative parenting style (based on warmth and strictness) as the best parental strategy, emerging research seriously questions the benefits of parental strictness. Additionally, the impact of parenting on the adolescent’s psychosocial competence has been studied for years, but less is known about whether it might vary depending on individual characteristics of the adolescent (e.g., self-efficacy). Participants were 1029 Spanish adolescents, 453 males (44%), aged 12-17 years. Families were classified in one of the parenting styles groups (authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, or neglectful), and adolescents were grouped by low vs. high self-efficacy. Adolescent psychosocial competence was examined through emotional and academic self-concept, psychological maladjustment (hostility/aggression, negative self-esteem, emotional responsivity, instability, and negative view of the world), and academic performance (grade point average and number of failing grades). Main and interaction effects of parenting style and adolescent self-efficacy were tested. Main effect results indicated that adolescents with low self-efficacy were always associated with the worst psychosocial competence. Consistently, the main effect findings indicated that adolescents from indulgent and authoritative families were associated with better results than those from neglectful and authoritarian families. However, the indulgent parenting style yielded the best results. The impact of parenting might not be the same for adolescents in all cultural contexts. Contrary to findings from classical studies, parental strictness seems to be unnecessary or even detrimental for adolescents with low and high self-efficacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Los objetivos centrales de la indagatoria fueron analizar la asociación entre el estrés académico y el autoconcepto, comparar dichos fenómenos psicológicos entre géneros e identificar el poder predictivo de los factores del autoconcepto en los índices de estrés académico en estudiantes universitarios. Los resultados confirmaron una asociación negativa entre las variables abordadas y diferencias hombres y mujeres. Adicionalmente, se realizaron dos análisis de regresión lineal múltiple para cado uno de los géneros. En mujeres, los factores emocional, académico-laboral, social, familiar y físico del autoconcepto aportaron a la explicación del estrés académico; en el de los hombres, solo se integraron las dimensiones emocional y académico-laboral. Se concluye que el autoconcepto aporta a la predicción del comportamiento del estrés académico en estudiantes de educación superior. Por tales razones, resulta conveniente suscitar en las instituciones universitarias, actividades tendientes a la mejora de la percepción de sí mismos por parte de los jóvenes.

Esta investigación consiste en una búsqueda sistemática de información relacionada con el Desarrollo Emocional de los alumnos con sintomatología del Trastorno de Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH), el cual está caracterizado por un patrón persistente de inatención y/o hiperactividad-impulsividad que dificulta el desarrollo y el funcionamiento normal de la persona. El método que se ha llevado a cabo para esta investigación está basado en la búsqueda sistemática en diferentes plataformas empleando diversas palabras clave hasta aproximarnos a la información más relevante en relación a nuestro objetivo principal. Se obtuvo un total de 26 artículos y los resultados de todos ellos se encuentran reflejados en la “Tabla 1”, en el que se especifican aspectos como las conclusiones de los estudios, herramientas de evaluación utilizadas y objetivo del estudio. La discusión que se ha establecido tras la investigación indica que los alumnos con TDAH tienden a tener un desarrollo emocional pobre, problemas de autoestima y autoconcepto, una personalidad más extrovertida e impulsiva y menor empatía. Las conclusiones sugieren que se encuentra muy poca información al respecto y sería conveniente estudiar más sobre el tema para extraer información con base verídica y poder compararla con otros estudios.

El objetivo del artículo consistió en analizar la relación existente entre el estado de peso y la calidad de la dieta con el autoconcepto en escolares de primaria. Para ello, se llevó a cabo un estudio empírico descriptivo transversal sobre una muestra de 246 escolares (10-12 años). Se utilizaron dos cuestionarios: escala de Autoconcepto de Piers-Harris y el cuestionario KIDMED. Por su parte, el estado nutricional se valoró mediante el Índice de Masa Corporal (kg/m2) ajustado por sexo y edad. La prueba de regresión lineal mostró una asociación entre puntuaciones superiores en el autoconcepto y una mayor calidad de la dieta ajustada y, sin ajustar al sexo, edad o sobrecarga ponderal. En conclusión, un mayor autoconcepto en escolares de primaria parece estar relacionado con una mayor calidad de la dieta.

El propósito de este artículo de investigación es el de proporcionar evidencia sobre si el entrenamiento de determinadas habilidades socioemocionales mediante los juegos serios de mesa tiene efectos positivos sobre la motivación de los estudiantes para terminar con éxito su formación universitaria. En la actualidad, los estudiantes reciben una formación universitaria en contenidos y destrezas que, en ocasiones, se aleja de lo demandado por las organizaciones. Esta disincronía produce un efecto de desmotivación en los discentes. En la era de la Inteligencia Artificial, las competencias laborales blandas, o soft skills, serán las nuevas habilidades duras que los individuos deberán tener adquiridas para su completar su formación y poder integrarse en el mercado laboral de manera eficaz. Por tanto, parece necesario e imprescindible entrenar la capacidad de los estudiantes para realizar una determinada actividad, pero también lo es para que posean competencias transversales, denominadas soft skills. Según han verificado algunas investigaciones, la mejora en la competencia de las habilidades blandas tiene efectos directos y positivos sobre la motivación, entendida ésta como emprendimiento personal, de los estudiantes. Con este objetivo, se ha realizado una investigación con los estudiantes de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos para evaluar los niveles de estas habilidades, su posterior entrenamiento a través de los serious games de mesa, y su reevaluación para valorar el efecto y mejora en su motivación y estrategias de aprendizaje. Dado que algunas habilidades blandas son transferibles, enseñables y no asumibles por IA, se ha realizado un muestro polietápico sobre un grupo de estudiantes de Marketing constituyendo una muestra representativa de 71 individuos. Cada individuo ha respondido a unos cuestionarios validados por la comunidad científica en el área de la Psicología antes y después del entrenamiento sobre su motivación y estrategias de aprendizaje, junto con otros cuestionarios, también validados, para medir los niveles de habilidades blandas socioemocionales como, empatía, autoconcepto, y compasión. Los resultados indican que algunos de los niveles de estas habilidades, junto con la motivación son diferentes según el género de los individuos; además, los factores determinantes de las habilidades sobre la motivación de los estudiantes previo al entrenamiento son diferentes a los factores significativos posteriores al entrenamiento, estando éstos últimos más intrínsecamente relacionados con la autoconciencia, actitud y conocimiento de sí mismo del individuo y su entorno.

Singing in the classroom is important for children's development and for this to happen teachers must be competent in this activity. This transversal study analyses the use of the singing voice, vocal and emotional self-concept in relation to the context and vocal health of future early childhood education teachers (0-6 years) at three universities. For this purpose, a questionnaire was administered to 240 students (22-45 years; 200 females; 40 males). The results show that only about 30% of the students believe they have a beautiful voice, find it easy to sing in the written pitch and sing in tune and effortlessly. However, those who have a family context where singing is present, not only does their self-concept improve, but also understand that for a teacher it is necessary to sing and sing well, because, among other things, they will be a vocal role model for their students. Although the students perceive themselves to be in good vocal health, this is not what they observe in their internship tutors-mentors, who often use recorded music and present voice alterations. It is concluded that the Early Childhood Education degrees fail to provide enough resources to their students to improve their vocal competence and self-concept. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Self-concept corresponds to different perceptions about oneself and in adolescence is fundamental for the achievement of identity. This self-perception can be related to different factors; to parenting through parental socialization styles and socioeconomic levels of family belonging. The purpose of the study was to relate self-concept in five dimensions (academic, social, emotional, family, and physical) with parental socialization styles (authoritarian, democratic, negligent and indulgent) according to socioeconomic level. Method: A non-experimental design of comparative/correlational cross-sectional scope was used with an intentional non-probabilistic sample, involving 867 adolescents between 11 and 18 years old (M = 14.11 and SD = 1.80), of which 444 (51 %) were men from nine educational centers of different cities in Chile, who answered the questionnaire of Autoconcepto AF5 and the Scale of Parental Socialization in Adolescence (ESPA29), in addition to sociodemographic questions. Results: The family dimension of the self-concept presented the highest score, followed by the social, physical, academic and emotional. Males have higher scores in self-concept with the exception of the academic dimension. Differences were found in the five dimensions of self-concept according to parental socialization styles (authoritarian, democratic, negligent, and indulgent) and socioeconomic groups of belonging (low, medium low, medium, and medium high). The labor market increasingly demands transversal skills, which is why they generate great interest in the field of Vocational Training (VT). In this research, a preliminary study was carried out on resilience and its relationship with other psychosocial (teacher support, perceived social support and self-concept), academic (academic performance) and sociodemographic (gender) variables. The sample was made up of 82 students (61 young men and 21 young women) of intermediate VT, aged between 16 and 23 years (M = 18.06; SD = 1.57). The results showed positive relationships between resilience and the rest of the variables, except academic performance and gender. Teacher support correlated positively with academic self-concept and academic performance. In addition, all the psychosocial variables analyzed turned out to be predictors of resilience, jointly explaining 68.8% of the total variance. Teacher support, specifically, explained 16.4% of the variance. The impact that VT teachers have on students' resilience and academic results should be considered, offering them resources to promote the students' transversal and academic skills. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar las relaciones entre el autoconcepto físico y factores académicos en una muestra de 1650 estudiantes pertenecientes a la provincia de Granada. El diseño fue descriptivo-exploratorio, de corte transversal y ex post-facto, llevándose a cabo unas pruebas descriptivas básicas, la prueba ANOVA de un factor, la prueba de Bonferroni para relaciones inter-grupos, y correlaciones bivariadas de Pearson. Para la medición de las variables, se utilizó el cuestionario CAF, para el autoconcepto físico, y un cuestionario (Ad hoc) para variables de corte sociodemográficas y académicas, como la edad, el sexo y la práctica de actividad física extraescolar, así como la nota media académica. Los resultados reflejaron que existe relación significativa entre la mayoría de las dimensiones del autoconcepto físico y el sexo, siendo más elevado en los chicos que las chicas; que aquellos adolescentes que sí realizan actividad física extraescolar respecto a los que no, tienen mejor autoconcepto físico; y por último que no hay diferencias significativas entre la percepción física y el rendimiento académico. De este modo, se sugiere la contribución de los contextos educativos como uno de los ejes fundamentales para el correcto desarrollo del adolescente. Se considera necesaria la implicación docente en la Educación Secundaria para favorecer un buen autoconcepto físico, donde se promueva la salud física, mental y académica usando como herramienta la práctica de actividad física.

Many current investigations have analysed adolescents’ risky ICT behaviours (such as excessive or addictive use), but few have explored the characteristics of low-risk behaviour in this regard. This study aimed to explore the psychosocial profile of a sample of 593 Spanish adolescents aged 13 to 18 who have been categorized as low-risk ICT users. To this end, the low-risk ICT use group was calculated using the “multitasking while doing homework index” and a set of items on risky ICT behaviour. Chi-squared and t-tests were performed and a forward stepwise binary logistic regression was carried out to determine the explanatory variables for low-risk ICT use. The results showed that some 7.1% were classified as low-risk ICT users, with a higher percentage of girls. These users’ profile was characterised by: lower digital self-efficacy with social networking applications; less generalized ICT use and a less dependent attitude; less extroversion and more agreeableness and conscientiousness; higher academic self-concept; having rules for ICT use at home; and less insecure and anxious attachment to parental figures. The variables that predicted the likelihood of low-risk ICT behaviour were: high academic self-concept; low perceived separation anxiety from loved ones; and high agreeableness scores. Self-concept is a psychological construct of great interest to psychology, demonstrated by the theoretical approach and the development of different forms for its measurement. In the present study, an initial conceptual path was made on the self-concept to show the agreement on its multidimensional character and the interaction spheres of the people in which it is evidenced. Similarly, a systematic review of psychometric studies that have reported the validity and reliability of different ways of measuring self-concept was made. A total of 44 investigations were found between 2010 and 2020 that met the defined inclusion criteria. The results of the analysis reveal the tendency to use internal consistency coefficients for reliability evidence, especially Cronbach's alpha; likewise, the frequent use of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis for validity evidence. We highlight the demonstration of reliability and validity in different parts of the world and the languages of instruments, such as the Self-Concept Form 5 and the Self-Description Questionnaire. In the first, with few exceptions, the structure of five factors is corroborated in different contexts and languages; In the case of the second instrument, most studies vary in the number of factors extracted. Usually, the consistency values were greater than 0.7 in the different instruments; likewise, structure validity prevails. Again, attention is drawn to the little psychometric evidence in the measurement of self-concept in Colombia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objectives of the study were to identify physical self-concept profiles and examine their role in the intention to be physically active and emotional regulation. A sample of 606 physical activity practitioners (Mage= 34.19, SD= 13.05), completed a series of self-report measures that evaluated physical selfconcept, the intention to be physically active, and emotional regulation. Cluster analyzes revealed three profiles of physical self-concept. Profile b with relatively high physical self-concept experienced significant differences in intention to be physically active, self-blame, and positive reappraisal. Profile a with low physical self-concept showed significant differences in acceptance, rumination, and catastrophizing. Profile c with a very low physical self-concept revealed significant differences in blaming others. In conclusion, profile b with relatively high physical self-concept and with optimal scores in condition, attractiveness and strength is associated with a higher intention to be physically active and the use of functional emotional regulation strategies. Motivation is one of the most studied elements in sport psychology due to its great potential to explain the attitude towards sport practice. Therefore, the present systematic review aims to analyse the effects of sport-oriented motivation on physical activity, anxiety and self-concept. The Web of Science and SCOPUS databases were used to select articles published between 2012 and 2022. The criteria established by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement were followed for the elaboration of the systematic review, with the final analysis sample comprising a total of 19 articles. Finally, the analysis of the data reveals that developing sport motivation from extrinsic or intrinsic values can help to decrease or increase anxiety levels. In addition, intrinsic motivation is beneficial for channelling disruptive states, while extrinsic motivation helps to increase anxiety levels when the proposed objectives are not achieved. The self-concept is conceived as the idea that a person has built of himself, product of the self-observation of his own capacities and limitations. The aim of this paper is to describe the self-concept in a sample of patients with bipolar disorder. Cross-sectional study, with descriptive characteristics. Intentional sampling, 36 people were evaluated through the AF5 questionnaire. When performing a comparison of means between groups, no statistically significant differences were found for any of the dimensions. Women scored below the scale in the emotional and family dimensions and men scored below in the social and family dimension. It is important that future studies establish relationships with other variables that can mediate the emotional response in the presence of a diagnosis of mental illness, such as resilience, in the same way other clinical samples and from different age ranges should be included, the importance of knowing The functioning of the variable studied in different population groups and clinical conditions lies in the possibility of generating intervention strategies that can affect the prognosis of the disease itself. Adolescent-to-parent violence (APV) is still the most understudied type of domestic violence, although reports filed by victimized parents and youths serving judicial measures for this reason are increasing. The aim of this study is to assess the differential profile of boys and girls who have and have not reported APV in a community sample, following studies showing differences between both genders in initiating and maintaining offending behavior. To this end, each gender was assessed separately in relation to both variables already investigated by research on APV and variables that are relevant for other forms of violence. The sample was composed by 341 high-school students of both genders, aged between 14 to 20 years. They answered a questionnaire including scales on exposure to violence, parent-child relationships, self-concept, psychopathic traits, narcissism, and sexism. They were also asked about drug use, academic performance, family structure, and mental health diagnosis. Data analyses showed that variables that differentiate between youths who reported APV and those who did not were different for boys and girls. Results are discussed suggesting that incorporating a perspective based on gender, that considers differential experiences and psychosocial factors that lead boys and girls to APV, should contribute to designing more conclusive research and more effective interventions.
