Cybersecurity groups navigate complex, challenging environments in their mission to protect their organizations. They experience uncertainty from adaptive threats from external attackers and unpredictable stakeholders. Under such volatility, business groups operate best when they are psychologically empowered. Recognizing the potential for empowerment to reduce organizational risk, we sought to learn how cybersecurity groups come to be (dis)empowered and how this (dis)empowerment is sustained. Instead of the conventional view of the empowerment process as designed, we advance an emergent view of the empowerment process. We abductively surface this process from our case analyses of 15 U.S.organizations. We offer three insights: First, organizations with empowered cybersecurity groups enjoy an enhanced level of protection from breaches. Second, we highlight generative rules through which groups become empowered—via their bridging initiatives that co-opt stakeholders into security behaviors and stakeholder responsiveness to bridging, rather than unilaterally applied buffering initiatives. Third, we highlight reinforcing rules through which empowered states persist—via the group’s ability to safeguard organizational information assets, thereby ensuring cybersecurity group viability, continued bridging, and motivated stakeholder responsiveness. For practitioners, our study underscores the interdependence between cybersecurity groups and their stakeholders in securing an organization and posits processes for empowering cybersecurity groups. Background/Objectives: Current guidelines recommend intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) followed by mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) caused by large vessel occlusion (LVO). This combined approach, known as bridging therapy (BT), is believed to increase the likelihood of a favorable functional outcome when administered within 4.5 h of symptom onset. However, the benefits of BT over direct mechanical thrombectomy (d-MT) remain debated. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of AIS-LVO patients undergoing MT within 6 h of symptom onset, with and without prior IVT. Methods: Within the prospective Transzlációs Idegtudományi Nemzeti Laboratórium (TINL) STROKE-registry, AIS-LVO patients admitted to the Department of Neurology, University of Pécs between February 2023 and June 2024 were investigated. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients reaching functional independence at 90 days, defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0–2. Secondary endpoints included clinical improvement at 72 h (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale [NIHSS] score of ≤1 or a change from baseline [ΔNIHSS] of ≥4) and successful recanalization (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction [mTICI] score ≥ 2). Safety outcomes were evaluated based on thrombus migration and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Results were compared using linear and logistic regression analyses adjusted for baseline variables. Results: Of 82 patients, 51 (62.2%) received BT, while 31 (37.8%) underwent d-MT. The BT group showed a significantly higher rate of functional independence (45.7% vs. 17.2%, p = 0.014) and a lower 90-day mortality rate (13.7% vs. 35.5%, p = 0.029). Multivariate analysis revealed that IVT was independently associated with favorable functional outcomes (p = 0.011) and reduced mortality (p = 0.021). No significant differences were observed in terms of clinical improvement at 72 h, successful recanalization, thrombus migration, or hemorrhagic transformation between the groups. Conclusions: This study supports current guidelines recommending BT for thrombectomy-eligible AIS-LVO patients, offering new insights into the ongoing clinical debate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditional energetic materials have limited space for energy enhancement and are unable to meet the future development needs of high-energy insensitive materials. This article designs 15 energetic compounds using benzene, imidazole, and triazole as skeleton, and direct connected, –N=N–, –NH–, –O–, –CH=CH– as bridging structural units. The density, enthalpy of formation, and detonation characteristics of these compounds were systematically studied using density functional theory. Predicting the sensitivity of compounds through analysis of electrostatic potential. The results indicate that the linking skeleton can effectively improve the detonation performance and density of energetic materials. Among them, using azo (–N=N–) and oxygen (–O–) as bridging units can not only increase the energy density of the compound, but also have lower sensitivity. Synthesise, the linking strategy can compensate for the shortcomings of traditional energetic materials and provide a theoretical basis for the design of high-energy and low sensitivity compounds. Density functional theory was used to calculate 15 bridging energetic compounds, and the influence of different bridging groups on bridging compounds was explored. Bridging groups that can effectively balance energy and sensitivity were discovered, providing theoretical guidance for the design and application of high-energy insensitive energetic materials in the future. A transgenic protein is frequently expressed as different homologous variants in genetically modified crops due to differential processing of targeting peptides or optimization of activity and specificity. The aim of this study was to develop a science-based approach for risk assessment of homologous protein variants using dicamba mono-oxygenase (DMO) as a case study. In this study, DMO expressed in the next-generation dicamba-tolerant maize, sugar beet and soybean crops exhibited up to 27 amino acid sequence differences in the N-terminus. Structure modeling using AlphaFold, ESMFold and OpenFold demonstrates that these small N-terminal extensions lack an ordered secondary structure and do not disrupt the DMO functional structure. Three DMO variants were demonstrated to have equivalent immunoreactivity and functional activity ranging from 214 to 331 nmol/min/mg. Repeated toxicity studies using each DMO variant found no test substance-related adverse effects. These results support that homologous protein variants, which have demonstrated physicochemical and functional equivalence, can leverage existing safety data from one variant without requiring additional de novo safety assessments. In particle-filled polymer composites with selective distributions of fillers in one phase, much attention has been focused on the "volume exclusion effect" in reducing the percolation threshold of filler, while the role of dispersed polymer phase acting as bridges of fillers in the particle network has largely been ignored. Herein, we studied industrially important ternary composites, polypropylene (PP)/ethylene-octene copolymer (a polyolefin elastomer, POE)/talc systems, and adopted rheology to reveal the bridging behavior of POE droplets in the network of talc particles. It is found that talc fillers concentrate in the PP phase using the "blend first" protocol, while more talc particles are located at the interface of PP and POE phases using the "filler first" protocol. Changing the POE viscosity and talc size can affect the migration of talc from the POE phase to the PP phase in the "filler first" protocol. The linear rheology behavior indicates that besides the "volume exclusion effect", the talc-POE hybrid network can further contribute to the reinforcement effect. Meanwhile, the POE droplet bridging structure can facilitate the rebuilding of the hybrid network after large amplitude oscillatory shear, in contrast to the un-recoverable structures in the PP/talc binary composites. The correlation between rheology and selective distribution of fillers in ternary composites may provide practical guidance for processing and designing advanced polymer composites with controlled selective location of fillers. Purpose: The aim of this systematic review is to review the functional, clinical and radiological outcomes of patients undergoing large to massive rotator cuff repair with long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) autograft, as well as compare these to standard arthroscopic cuff repair. Methods: A review of the online Medline database was conducted on 20 October 2022 according to PRISMA guidelines and registered prospectively on the PROSPERO database. Clinical studies assessing patients with large to massive rotator cuff tears undergoing LHBT autograft repair were included. All studies reported on functional outcomes, range of movement (ROM) and radiological re-tear rates. The Methodological Index for Non-Randomised Studies (MINORS) tool was used to appraise all studies. Results: The search strategy identified ten studies for inclusion including a total of 594 patients. Five studies were comparable (346 patients), assessing LHBT autograft repair against arthroscopic rotator cuff repair without autograft. A variety of techniques of LHBT autograft were used across all studies, including bridging and augmentation styles. Radiographic comparison showed lower re-tear rates in the LHBT autograft group with two studies demonstrating statistically significant results. Pain scores, functional outcomes and ROM were significantly improved post-operatively in all studies for LHBT autograft patients, with no significant difference when compared to standard arthroscopic repair. Conclusion: LHBT autograft looks to significantly improve functional scoring and range of motion in patients with large to massive rotator cuff tears. When compared to standard arthroscopic cuff repair, LHBT autograft appears to significantly reduce the re-tear rate. Further randomised studies are needed to assess the efficacy of this technique. The study intends to explore and substantiate the effectiveness of social capital in the development of different tribes in Kerala, specifically examining inter-tribal disparities. Primary data were gathered from the Kasaragod district in Kerala, encompassing 240 sample households representing the prominent tribes of the region, namely Mavilan, Marati and Malavettuvan. An index has been developed to evaluate the comparative level of social capital possessed by each tribe under investigation by incorporating its various dimensions. The results highlight that the overall effectiveness of social capital in the development of scheduled tribes in Kerala is marginal. However, there are statistically significant differences in the achievement of development outcomes between tribes with high social capital and those with low social capital. Tribes with a higher social capital index excel in bonding, bridging and linking dimensions. Dry technical textiles tend to bridge when draping in concave areas or complex geometries such as internal corners. The extent of bridging is based on the spring-back of the textile. In this study, the value for the spring-back for dry technical textiles is defined and a method to quantify the spring-back value is proposed. An automated continuous draping process is presented based on manual lay-up and draping process of dry non-crimp fabrics (NCF) which is used in the production of rotor blade shells for wind turbine blades. This process provides the basis for the study of spring-back behaviors. Within this process, a triaxial NCF sample is manually laid-up on an L-shaped mold and then automatically draped onto the edge using a draping tool. A laser scanner records the draping result and bridging of the NCF sample. Test series show the influence of the process parameters such as drape speed and drape force on the spring-back behavior. Simple Summary: Liver transplantation is one of the most effective treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma, but only when specific transplantation criteria are met. Local therapies may be used to prevent the tumor from exceeding the transplantation criteria (i.e., so-called bridging therapy). However, the impact of bridging therapy on transplantation outcomes and its predictive value are still not known. We performed a systematic review on both radiological and histopathological responses as prognostic indicators of transplantation outcomes. Five studies were included. The overall risk of bias was serious across the studies. If the tumor showed a good radiological response to bridging therapy, there was a greater chance of better transplantation outcomes. Complete tumor necrosis was not associated with better transplantation outcomes. Future predictive models should include radiological, pathological, histological, cellular, and molecular tumor features. Liver transplantation (LT) is one of the most effective treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in cirrhotic livers. Neoadjuvant bridging treatment in patients qualifying and listed for LT is advised but is still debatable owing to the low level of evidence. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review to assess the prognostic value of bridging therapy, in terms of radiological and histopathological examination outcomes, for survival after LT. The systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The MEDLINE and Web of Science databases were searched. In total, five studies were included. An evaluation with the ROBINS-I resulted in studies classified as the following: moderate risk of bias (n = 1) and serious risk of bias (n = 4). The results of the analysis indicated that favorable LT outcomes were most common with complete response or partial radiological response. Poor radiological response or progressive disease during bridging treatment was generally associated with worse overall LT survival. There were not enough data to support the use of this approach to achieve a complete pathologic response. Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is a method for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with satisfactory outcomes. One of the novel methods for predicting LT outcomes is the Metroticket 2.0 model. The disease in patients initially within the Milan criteria (MC) may progress while on a transplantation waitlist; thus, various transplantation bridging therapy (BT) methods are proposed for patients to stay within the MC and optimize the LT outcome. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent LT for HCC at an oncological and transplantation center in northern Poland. Patients who underwent (n = 10) or did not undergo (n = 11) BT were included. The primary endpoints of the study were mortality among the patients, HCC recurrence, and Metroticket 2.0 scores based on LT qualification results and explant pathology outcomes. The median follow-up length was 44.03 months. Results: Patients who underwent BT had significantly lower Metroticket 2.0 scores and greater AFP concentrations at baseline. At LT, there was no significant difference in Metroticket 2.0 scores or AFP concentrations between the groups. Explant Metroticket 2.0 scores were significantly lower in patients who received BT. A complete pathologic response was achieved in 30.0% of patients who underwent BT. The recurrence-free survival rates were 100% and 90.91% in patients who underwent and did not undergo BT, respectively. Overall survival was 80.0% and 81.81% in patients who underwent and did not undergo BT, respectively. Conclusions: BT should be considered only as a means of remaining within the LT criteria. Introduction: Short educational programs prior to metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) provide information to prepare patients adequately for surgery and subsequent changes. Our knowledge of the beneficial effects of these programs on stabilizing and improving mental health of patients with obesity awaiting surgery is incomplete. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of a group-based educational program before MBS on three key factors: (i) patients' mental health, (ii) the program's perceived helpfulness from the patients' perspective, and (iii) the effectiveness of delivering the program online via videoconferencing. Methods: Validated questionnaires for anxiety, depression, stress, and quality of life before and after the program were assessed. Additionally, participants' perspectives of benefits were assessed. Two subgroups, one participating in face-to-face classes, the other participating online via videoconferencing, were compared. Results: Three hundred five patients with obesity waiting for MBS participated in the program. The dropout rate was 3%. On mean average, symptoms of anxiety (−1.1 units [SD 4.6], p < 0.001), depression (−0.9 units [SD 4.6], p < 0.001), and stress (−4.6 units [SD 15.6], p < 0.001) improved, while physical quality of life (+1.7 units [SD 9.7], p = 0.016) and body weight (−0.3 kg [SD 8.7], p = 0.57) remained stable. Patients perceived the program as very beneficial. The results were similar between delivery methods (face-to-face vs. videoconferencing). Conclusion: The educational program proved to be effective in bridging the gap in preoperative preparation while also stabilizing participants' mental health. In addition, participants perceived the program as supportive. Online participation via video conferencing can be offered as an equivalent option to face-to-face classes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To use a finite element method to construct a patch-bridge repair model for massive rotator cuff tears (MRCTs) and investigate the effects of different suture methods and knot numbers on postoperative biomechanics. Methods: A finite element model based on intact glenohumeral joint data was used for a biomechanical study. A full-thickness defect and retraction model of the supraspinatus tendon simulated MRCTs. Patch, suture, and anchor models were constructed, and the Marlow method was used to assign the material properties. Three suturing models were established: 1-knot simple, 1-knot mattress, and 2-knot mattress. The ultimate failure load, failure mode, stress distribution of each structure, and other biomechanical results of the different models were calculated and compared. Results: The ultimate failure load of the 1-knot mattress suture (71.3 N) was 5.6 % greater than that of the 1-knot simple suture (67.5 N), while that (81.5 N) of the 2-knot mattress was 14.3 % greater than that of the 1-knot mattress. The stress distribution on the patch and supraspinatus tendon was concentrated on suture perforation. Failure of the bridging reconstruction mainly occurred at the suture perforation of the patch, and the damage forms included cutting-through and isthmus pull-out. Conclusion: A finite element model for the patch-bridging reconstruction of MRCTs was established, and patch-bridging restored the mechanical integrity of the rotator cuff. The 2-knot mattress suture was optimal for patch-bridging reconstruction of MRCTs.

Graphite (C) and diamond (D) are like the ugly duckling and the white swan. d -enhanced liquid metal (LM) thermal conductivity (K) demands a high filling quantity, whereas C-enhanced LM K performs poorly. How to effectively utilize them is the key point of this work. By bridging D particles with flake C, a LM composite with excellent K was acquired, and its actual measured thermal management effect was remarkable. [Display omitted] The liquid metal (LM) composite is regarded as having potential and wide-ranging applications in electronic thermal management. Enhancing the thermal conductivity of LM is a crucial matter. Herein, a novel LM composite of eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn)/diamond/graphite was developed. A highest thermal conductivity of 133 ± 3 W m−1 K−1 was achieved, 411 % higher than that of the matrix. The bonding mechanism reveals that the interfacial adsorption energy (Δ E) of graphite and EGaIn can be effectively decreased by the functional groups of graphite (by −108 % for –OH and −125 % for −C O) and the oxide of EGaIn (by −64 %). Furthermore, the Δ E of diamond and EGaIn can be significantly reduced through the oxidation of EGaIn (by −83 %) and the H-terminal of diamond (by −187 %). The thermal conductance mechanism suggests that a 3 vol% graphite content in the EGaIn/40 vol% diamond/graphite composite can form an excellent thermal conductance bridge among diamond particles. However, the thermal conductivity of the composite significantly decreased when too much graphite was added due to the tendency of the graphite to coat the diamond particles. There was no significant change in the melting point of EGaIn after being mixed with diamond and graphite. The EGaIn/diamond/graphite composite also demonstrated excellent thermal management performance in LED lamps and CPU heat dissipation as a thermal interface material, particularly in high-power electronic devices. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers among men in India. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has recently become a promising treatment modality for HCC before liver transplantation. Objectives: In this retrospective study, we aimed primarily to determine the clinical details of patients with HCC and response of SBRT in treating such patients with a secondary objective of assessing the impact of SBRT on patient survival. Materials and Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted from January 2016 to January 2019 at the Department of Radiotherapy at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. Six MV photons were used in conjunction with volumetric modulated arc treatment to deliver SBRT. Tumor response was evaluated as per the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) criteria. For both overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), Kaplan–Meier curves were created. Results: We included 21 patients with HCC who received SBRT treatment. The median age of our patients was 63 (45–74) years. The radiation dose ranged from 36–50 Gy in 3–5 fractions. Of the 21 patients, 5 (23.8%) had a complete response, whereas 9 (42.9%) showed a partial response. After 2 years, the local control rate was 66.7%. The overall survival was 28 months (interquartile range, IQR, 22–37), and the median progression-free survival was 20 months (IQR, 16–27). The overall survival rate at 2 years was 59%. There was no treatment-related mortality observed and no patient required an urgent transplant for acute decompensation. Conclusion: SBRT was well tolerated by our patients. With advancements in external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) techniques, it is possible to practice higher dose fractionation regimens due to more precise targeting and sparing of normal liver tissue. Considering the long waiting period for liver transplantation, liver SBRT can prove to be a successful bridging tool.

An understanding of joint and muscle forces is essential for prescribing appropriate exercises for patients with musculoskeletal disorders. This study aimed to determine the joint and muscle forces during exercises in the sitting or supine posture. Ten healthy males (age: 25.4 ± 2.6 years) performed three standing exercises (gait, squat, and forward lunge) and three exercises in sitting or supine postures (knee extension while sitting, straight leg raise, and bridging). The joint and muscle forces of the lumbar spine and lower extremities were estimated using the musculoskeletal model simulation based on the motion capture data. In the analysis of the exercises in the sitting or supine postures, the external forces acting from the chair or floor on the body were estimated using the optimization algorithm. The hip and tibiofemoral joint force, as well as muscle force such as VL, GMAX, and GAS, exhibited significantly greater magnitudes during standing exercises. However, the L4-L5 joint force during bridging was equivalent to those during gait and squat. Bridging generated significantly larger muscle force in ES and MF than those during gait. Exercises performed in the sitting or supine postures induced a larger load on L4-L5 and hip joint and trunk extensor muscle forces than exercises in the standing posture. While the joint and muscle forces were generally larger during standing rather than sitting or supine exercises, certain notable exceptions were observed, such as bridging exercise. In this study, we present a successful application of the Computational Fluid Dynamics–Discrete Element Method (CFD–DEM) for simulating the complex phenomenon of multi-particle arch formation within high-concentration packed-bed environments. We investigate the roles of physical forces in this phenomenon, shedding light on aspects that are challenging to explore through experimentation. Our research is motivated by the desire to comprehend the conditions and parameters influencing the formation, stability, disruption, and reformation of multi-particle sand arches within filter openings. This arching phenomenon serves as an efficient particle retention mechanism, particularly in heavy oil production wells. We delve into factors like particle size, shape, and particle size distribution that may impact multi-particle arch performance. Additionally, we explore the physics behind multi-particle arching by examining the effects of various physical forces on arch performance. Utilizing a Computational Fluid Dynamics–Discrete Element Model, we investigate the multi-particle arching phenomenon under steady-state flow conditions in packed-bed environments. Our approach employs the unresolved coupling method in STAR-CCM+ (Siemens PLM). We test various filter slot geometries, including straight slots, keystone slots, wire-wrapped screens (WWS), and seamed slots, all under laminar flow conditions. Our findings highlight the significance of gravity, inter-particle forces, and interactions between the filter wall and the particles in multi-particle arch formation at both the slot opening and microscale levels. We confirm that a multi-particle arch can be formed within a specific slot width. Interestingly, while maintaining a constant slot width, we observe that the slot length has an insignificant effect on multi-particle arch formation and stability. In summary, our CFD–DEM model successfully simulates and predicts multi-particle arch formation, stabilization, breakage, and reformation, allowing for comprehensive testing of the effects of various parameters. Abdominal wall scar endometriosis (AWE) is a rare endometriosis that usually occurs after gynecological or obstetric surgery and for which surgical resection is the standard treatment. For large tissue defects after resection, abdominal wall reconstruction is needed. Here, we describe a mesh bridging technique using biological and polypropylene meshes for abdominal wall reconstruction. A 34‐year‐old woman visited the center with complaints of low abdominal wall pain during menstruation for more than 5 years. Her surgical history included undergoing a cesarean section delivery twice. A mass measuring 6 cm × 5 cm × 3 cm was found above the symphysis pubis in the lower part of the abdominal incision. Endometriosis lesion was considered based on abdominal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging findings. After a multidisciplinary discussion that included surgical experts and gynecologists, the decision was made to perform abdominal endometrial focus excision plus abdominal wall reconstruction. Two kinds of mesh were skillfully used in the operation of this patient. Biological mesh was used close to the peritoneal side and covered with polypropylene mesh to reduce the stimulation by the polypropylene mesh of the peritoneum, enhance the strength of the biological mesh, and reduce the incidence of abdominal wall hernia. Our case demonstrates that accurate diagnosis of AWE followed by complete resection and reconstruction of the abdominal wall using a combination of biological and polypropylene mesh bridging can achieve good therapeutic results and patient satisfaction. Three structurally diverse 5‐phenyltetrazolato (Tz) Ti, Zr, and Ta complexes, namely, (C2H8N)[Ti2(C7H5N4)5(C2H6N)4]·1.45C6H6 or (Me2NH2)[Ti2(NMe2)4(2,3‐μ‐Tz)3(2‐η1‐Tz)2]·1.45C6H6, (1·1.45C6H6), [Zr2(C7H5N4)6(C2H6N)2(C2H7N)2]·1.12C6H6·0.382CH2Cl2 or [Zr2(Me2NH)2(NMe2)2(2,3‐μ‐Tz)3(2‐η1‐Tz)2(1,2‐η2‐Tz)]·1.12C6H6·0.38CH2Cl2 (2·1.12C6H6·0.38CH2Cl2), and (C2H8N)2[Ta2(C7H5N4)8(C2H6N)2O]·0.25C7H8 or (Me2NH2)2[Ta2(NMe2)2(2,3‐μ‐Tz)2(2‐η1‐Tz)6O]·0.25C7H8 (3·0.25C7H8), where TzH is 5‐phenyl‐1H‐tetrazole, have been synthesized and structurally characterized. All three complexes are dinuclear; the Ti center in 1 is six‐coordinate, whereas the Zr and Ta atoms in 2 and 3 are seven‐coordinate. The coordination environments of the Ti centers in 1 are similar, and so are the ligations of the Ta centers in 3. In contrast, the two Zr centers in 2 bear a different number of ligands, one of which is a bidentate η2‐5‐phenyltetrazolato ligand that has not been observed previously for d‐block elements. The dimethylamido ligand, present in the starting materials, remained unchanged, or was converted to dimethylamine and dimethylammonium during the synthesis. Avacopan 30 mg twice daily (BID) is approved for the treatment of severe active antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody–associated vasculitis (granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyangiitis). Food effect on avacopan pharmacokinetics (PKs) and PK bridging in Japanese participants were examined through 2 phase 1 studies involving healthy adult participants. In Study 1, an open‐label, crossover trial, participants received oral administration of a single 30‐mg dose of avacopan under fasted and fed conditions. Study 2 was a randomized, single‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial in Caucasian and Japanese participants: Part A investigated single doses of 10 and 30 mg of avacopan under fasted and fed conditions and Part B investigated 30 and 50 mg BID avacopan. The PKs of single‐dose administrations of 10 and 30 mg in Japanese participants was compared with that in Caucasian participants under fasted conditions. Food substantially increased plasma avacopan area under the plasma concentration‐time curve from time 0 to time infinity (AUC0‐inf) by 1.72‐fold, supporting the recommendation of taking avacopan with food. Maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) remained relatively unchanged. The median time to reach Cmax (tmax) was delayed by 3 hours. No significant food effect was observed on the active metabolite CCX168‐M1 (M1) AUC. Background: This review article discussed the use of bridging therapy with low‐molecular‐weight heparin (LMWH) in patients who undergo noncardiac surgery (NCS) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Hypotheses: Patients who undergo PCI are at an increased risk of thrombotic events due to their underlying cardiovascular disease. However, many of these patients may require NCS at some point in their lives, which poses a significant challenge for clinicians as they balance the risk of thrombotic events against the risk of bleeding associated with antithrombotic therapy. Results: This review evaluates the current evidence on the use of bridging therapy with LMWH in patients undergoing NCS after PCI, focusing on outcomes related to the efficacy and safety of antithrombotic therapy. The article also discusses the limitations of the current evidence and highlights areas where further research is needed to optimize the management of antithrombotic therapy in this patient population. Conclusion: The goal of this review was to provide clinicians with a comprehensive summary of the available evidence to guide clinical decision‐making and improve patient outcomes. Surface modification of polymeric materials to control their interaction with proteins has been studied extensively, leading to widespread bio‐applications. However, the development of nonbiological, smart polymer surfaces, mimicking the recognition ability of biomolecules, remains a challenge. The present study presents a thioether‐bridging surface modification of polymeric microspheres as a new approach for mimicking protein A affinity for immunoglobulin G (IgG). The bridge‐modified surface is created through an epoxide linking reaction of porous polymeric microspheres with potassium thioacetate in a 2:1 molar ratio, acting as a protein A ligand, which is essential for industrial IgG purification. This surface exhibits buffer responsiveness and selective high‐affinity binding to the IgG Fc region. Remarkably, a comparison among the binding behaviors of a series of thioether‐modified microspheres indicates that bridging structures composed of β,β′‐dihydroxysulfide play a predominant role in IgG recognition. This straightforward approach can lead to the development of economical and practical nonbiological alternatives to protein A‐conjugated materials, providing solutions for various applications such as biosensors and site‐specific reagents utilizing the affinity of the IgG Fc region. In bacteria, faithful DNA segregation of chromosomes and plasmids is mainly mediated by ParABS systems. These systems, consisting of a ParA ATPase, a DNA binding ParB CTPase, and centromere sites parS, orchestrate the separation of newly replicated DNA copies and their intracellular positioning. Accurate segregation relies on the assembly of a high‐molecular‐weight complex, comprising a few hundreds of ParB dimers nucleated from parS sites. This complex assembles in a multi‐step process and exhibits dynamic liquid‐droplet properties. Despite various proposed models, the complete mechanism for partition complex assembly remains elusive. This study investigates the impact of DNA supercoiling on ParB DNA binding profiles in vivo, using the ParABS system of the plasmid F. We found that variations in DNA supercoiling does not significantly affect any steps in the assembly of the partition complex. Furthermore, physical modeling, leveraging ChIP‐seq data from linear plasmids F, suggests that ParB sliding is restricted to approximately 2 Kbp from parS, highlighting the necessity for additional mechanisms beyond ParB sliding over DNA for concentrating ParB into condensates nucleated at parS. Finally, explicit simulations of a polymer coated with bound ParB suggest a dominant role for ParB‐ParB interactions in DNA compaction within ParB condensates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dry technical textiles tend to bridge when draping in concave areas or complex geometries such as internal corners. The extent of bridging is based on the spring-back of the textile. In this study, the value for the spring-back for dry technical textiles is defined and a method to quantify the spring-back value is proposed. An automated continuous draping process is presented based on manual lay-up and draping process of dry non-crimp fabrics (NCF) which is used in the production of rotor blade shells for wind turbine blades. This process provides the basis for the study of spring-back behaviors. Within this process, a triaxial NCF sample is manually laid-up on an L-shaped mold and then automatically draped onto the edge using a draping tool. A laser scanner records the draping result and bridging of the NCF sample. Test series show the influence of the process parameters such as drape speed and drape force on the spring-back behavior. For the draping process under consideration, quadratic dependencies of these factors on the spring-back could be determined.

Hydraulic oil leaks during mechanical maintenance, resulting in flushing wastewater contaminated with dispersed nano-oil droplets. In this study, 75 mg L−1 of polysilicate aluminum ferric (PSAF) was stirred at 350 rpm and the optimal chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal was 71%. The increase of PSAF led to more hydrolysis of Fe, and 1,175 cm−1 hydroxyl bridged with negative oil droplets. At the same molar concentration, PSAF hydrolyzes cationic metals more rapidly than polymeric aluminum chloride (PAC). PSAF forms flocs of smaller complex structures with greater bridging. The Al–O and Si–O peaks occurred at 611 and 1,138 cm−1, indicating the formation of Si–O–Fe and Si–O–Al bonds on the flocs surface. Higher stirring speeds did not change the free energy of the flocs surface γTot, mainly because the decrease in the van der Waals force (γLW) offset the increase of Lewis acid–base force (γAB). Preserving the non-polar surface, in summary, owing to its bridging abilities and affinity for non-polar surfaces, PSAF demonstrates superior efficiency over PAC in capturing and removing oil droplets. DNA in bacterial chromosomes is organized into higher‐order structures by DNA‐binding proteins called nucleoid‐associated proteins (NAPs) or bacterial chromatin proteins (BCPs). BCPs often bind to or near DNA loci transcribed by RNA polymerase (RNAP) and can either increase or decrease gene expression. To understand the mechanisms by which BCPs alter transcription, one must consider both steric effects and the topological forces that arise when DNA deviates from its fully relaxed double‐helical structure. Transcribing RNAP creates DNA negative (−) supercoils upstream and positive (+) supercoils downstream whenever RNAP and DNA are unable to rotate freely. This (−) and (+) supercoiling generates topological forces that resist forward translocation of DNA through RNAP unless the supercoiling is constrained by BCPs or relieved by topoisomerases. BCPs also may enhance topological stress and overall can either inhibit or aid transcription. Simple Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. However, HCC can be effectively treated in selected cases, with liver transplantation representing one of the limited options for potential cure. Unfortunately, many patients are ineligible for liver transplantation either due to an advanced tumor at initial diagnosis or due to disease progression while awaiting liver transplantation. Our review discusses the role of systemic therapies as a bridging treatment to liver transplantation, thereby enabling more HCC patients to undergo potentially curative liver transplantation. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths. Classically, liver transplantation (LT) can be curative for HCC tumors within the Milan criteria. Bridging strategies to reduce the dropouts from LT waiting lists and/or to downstage patients who are beyond the Milan criteria are widely utilized. We conducted a literature-based review to evaluate the role of systemic therapies as a bridging treatment to liver transplantation (LT) in HCC patients. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) can be used as a systemic bridging therapy to LT in patients with contraindications for locoregional liver-directed therapies. Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment can be utilized either as a monotherapy or as a combination therapy with bevacizumab or TKIs prior to LT. Acute rejection after liver transplantation is a concern in the context of ICI treatment. Thus, a safe ICI washout period before LT and cautious post-LT immunosuppression strategies are required to reduce post-LT rejections and to optimize clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, prospective clinical trials are needed to establish definitive conclusions about the utility of systemic therapy as a bridging modality prior to LT in HCC patients. There is a dearth of experiments on the synthesis of binuclear bridging complexes in current experimental textbooks, and limited knowledge exists regarding secondary amine synthesis and Cu(II) oxidation. In this study, drawing from the foundational reactions in organic chemistry theory, two routes were devised to synthesize the target secondary amine ligand. Route 1 is predicated on nucleophilic substitution reactions, while Route 2 involves nucleophilic addition condensation and reduction. Leveraging the principles of coordination chemistry and the conjugated drive effect in organic chemistry, Cu(II), with its weak oxidizing properties, oxidized secondary amines into conjugated aromatic imines (Schiff base) structures. Concurrently, the coordination of Schiff base and the bridging coordination of chloride ions were harnessed to form stable chlorine-bridged binuclear Cu(I) complexes. To suit the experimental teaching conditions in tertiary institutions, a straightforward operational set-up was designed to visually illustrate the identification of copper ion valence states in Cu(I) complexes. The experimental principles herein encompass not only fundamental chemical reaction knowledge but also embody the latest scientific research findings. With mild reaction conditions, intuitive experimental observations, good reproducibility, and high yields, this experiment effectively enhances students' comprehensive experimental operation skills and cultivates their abilities in organic synthesis and coordination chemistry. Background: Incorporating chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy into relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (rr LBCL) treatment algorithms has yielded remarkable response rates and durable remissions, yet a substantial portion of patients experience progression or relapse. Variations in outcomes across treatment centers may be attributed to different bridging strategies and remission statuses preceding CAR-T cell therapy. Patients: Twenty-nine consecutive adult patients receiving tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel) for rr LBCL from December 2019 to February 2023 at Jena University Hospital were analyzed. Results: The median age was 63, with a median of 3 prior treatments. Twenty patients (69%) were refractory to any systemic therapy before CAR-T cell treatment. Following leukapheresis, 25 patients (86%) received bridging therapy with the majority undergoing chemotherapy (52%) or combined modality therapy (32%). Radiotherapy (RT) was part of the bridging strategy in 44%, with moderately hypofractionated involved site RT (30.0 Gy/2.5 Gy) being applied most frequently (64%). Post-CAR-T infusion, the objective response rate at 30 days was 83%, with 55% achieving complete response. Twelve-month progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were 60% and 74%, respectively, with a median follow up of 11.1 months for PFS and 17.9 months for OS. Factors significantly associated with PFS were chemotherapy sensitivity pre-leukapheresis and response to bridging. Conclusion: The study underscores the importance of minimal tumor burden at CAR-T initiation, emphasizing the need for suitable bridging regimens. The global energy crisis has spurred a shift from conventional to clean and sustainable energy sources. Biomass derived from microalgae is emerging as an alternative energy source with diverse applications. Despite the numerous advantages of microalgae, large-scale biomass harvesting is not economical and convenient. Self-flocculation is considered an effective phenomenon facilitated by extracting the flocculating substances from microalgae that assist aggregation of algal cells into flocs. A novel cellulose-based bioflocculant has been synthesized from sewage water grown Chlorella sorokiniana and Scenedesmus abundans for harvesting application. The produced bioflocculant amounted to 38.5% and 19.38% of the dry weight of S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively. Analysis via FTIR, XRD, and FESEM-EDX revealed the presence of cellulose hydroxyapatite (HA) in algae-derived cellulose. Harvesting efficiencies of 95.3% and 89.16% were attained for S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively, at a dosage of 0.5 g/L. Furthermore, the bioflocculant was recovered, enabling its reuse with recovery efficiencies of 52% and 10% for S. abundans and C. sorokiniana, respectively. This study examines the use of braille contractions in a corpus of spelling tests from braille-reading children in grades 1-4, with particular attention to braille contractions that create mismatches with morphological structure. Braille is a tactile writing system that enables people who are blind or visually impaired to read and write. In English and many other languages, reading and writing braille is not simply a matter of transliterating between print letters and their braille equivalents; Unified English Braille (the official braille system used in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and several other English-speaking countries) contains 180 contractions—one or more braille cells that represent whole words or strings of letters. In some words, the prescriptive rules for correct braille usage cause contractions to bridge morphological boundaries and to obscure the spellings of stems and affixes. We demonstrate that, when the prescriptive rules for correct braille usage flout morphological structure, young braille spellers generally follow the morphology rather than the orthographic rules. This work establishes that morphology matters for young braille learners. We discuss the potential impact of our findings on braille research, development, and pedagogy, and we suggest ways in which our findings contribute to understanding the nature of orthographic morphemes and the place of braille in the reading sciences. This article examines the bridging role non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can play between a divided public administration in a conflict-ridden country. Based on interviews with various stakeholders in Yemen, we argue that NGO might need to mediate between conflicting authorities to effectively carry out their activities. By doing so, they serve as a bridge that could help maintain relations between the two fragmented administrations and possibly facilitate the process of post-conflict state building. While not all NGOs are capable or required to fulfill this role, we identify four enabling factors: (1) the readiness of stakeholders to engage; (2) public support for the NGO; and (3) NGOs' adequate capacity; and (4) the donor's support. Under the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy, biomass has attracted much attention due to its characteristics of regeneration, low pollution and zero carbon emissions. The imperfects of biomass, such as the loose structure and low energy density, can be effectively solved by briquetting, and the resulted fuel pellets can be used as a substitute for fossil fuels, which is of great significance for the construction of new energy system. In the paper, the influencing factors of the hot briquetting process of biomass were summarized, and the evolution behavior and binding mechanism of biomass particles during the hot briquetting process were analyzed and discussed. Biomass briquetting process mainly includes cold briquetting and hot briquetting. Compared with cold briquetting process of biomass, hot briquetting with lower energy consumption can produce the biomass fuel pellets with higher quality. The moisture content (4%−15%) of the raw biomass has greater influence, the briquetting temperature (70−150 ℃) has relatively smaller effect on the density of the fuel pellets, and the briquetting pressure (60−130 MPa) and the particle size ( < 2.5 mm) of the raw material show the different impact on the density of the fuel pellets from different biomass. During the hot process, cellulose mainly plays the role of supporting skeleton, hemicellulose and lignin play the role of binder. In the microcosmic process of hot briquetting process, the inertia movement and subsequent viscoelastic-plastic deformation of the biomass particles occur and the mechanical interlock is formed between the particles. The brittle particles are broken and the natural viscous components are released, and thus, the bridge linkage between the particles is formed under the integrated effects of moisture, temperature and pressure. Mechanical interlocking and bridging reduce the distance between biomass molecules and promote the generation of intermolecular forces. Based on the above-mentioned mechanism of the hot briquetting of biomass, the quality of the resulted fuel pellets can be improved by biomass component adjustment, biomass blending or hydrothermal pretreatment. In the future, the molecular dynamics simulation method will be used to investigate the biomass briquetting process to obtain the molecular bonding mechanism of biomass components, which is conducive to further exploring the hot briquetting mechanism of biomass, and provide important guiding significance for the preparation of fuel pellets and molding materials from biomass.

Background: Patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) require systemic anticoagulation. The use of enoxaparin for bridging to warfarin remains understudied in this population. Methods: This single‐center retrospective study was performed to characterize enoxaparin use and associated thrombotic and bleeding outcomes in adult outpatients with LVADs from January 2018 to July 2021. Results: Fifty‐four enoxaparin bridging events were evaluated in 49 patients. Most patients with HeartMate II (HM2) and HeartWare (HVAD) devices received enoxaparin dosed 1 mg/kg every 12 h. In patients with HeartMate 3 (HM3) devices, an equal number of patients received 0.5 mg/kg every 12 h and 1 mg/kg every 12 h, with a smaller subset receiving intermediate doses. The median duration of bridging was 6 days (4–8 [IQR]). One major bleeding event required discontinuation of enoxaparin and hospitalization in a patient with an HM3 device. Thrombotic events occurred in four patients with two incidents of pump thrombosis requiring pump exchange and two ischemic strokes. All thrombotic events occurred in patients with HVAD or HM2 devices. Conclusion: These results suggest that enoxaparin bridging in LVAD patients was well‐tolerated with low bleeding and thrombotic rates, particularly with the HM3 device. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay invites my colleagues in business schools to do their research differently by working with and for community/grassroots organisations. Based on my fieldwork experience at a free food store problematising food surplus and food waste in Aotearoa New Zealand, I offer 'activist performativity' as a scholarship modality that builds on critical praxis aligning activism, research and teaching for a socially just and sustainable society. I present my attempt to become an-Other critical scholar bridging multiple domains as a case of activist performativity with the hope of collectively transforming the alienating research practices at business schools as critical scholars. The study focused on isolating bioflocculant-producing microorganisms from poultry slaughterhouse wastewater (PSW). Microorganisms (n = 20) were isolated, and the D2 isolate, identified as Bacillus megaterium using 16S rDNA and RpoD (sigma 70), had maximum flocculation activity. Furthermore, characteristics of the bioflocculant produced by B. megaterium were determined, and the optimum storage conditions, including the flocculation mechanism, were identified. The bioflocculant was composed mainly of polysaccharides and proteins and was better stored frozen in a crude form. Furthermore, the flocculation efficacy was assessed using response surface methodology at pH 4 (min) and 9 (max), bioflocculant dosage of 1% (min) and 3% (max, v/v), indicating pH 6.5 and dosage of 2% (v/v) as optimum flocculation conditions for floc formation under ambient temperature. These results were further confirmed with microscopy assessments with zeta potential measurements confirming that the bioflocculant was ionic, albeit charge neutralization was not the primary mechanism for floc agglomeration. Hydrogen bonding was predominant, indicative of a neutralization-bridging mechanism, an assertion also based on the functional groups prevalent in the isolate-B. megaterium. Our point of departure is László Kálmán's system of radical anti-mainstream argumentations about such central but dubious, or at least debated, constituents and concepts of dynamic semantics as discourse representation, information state, compositionality between semantics and syntax, bridging, deferred information, and ambiguity/vagueness. We strive for pointing out that Kálmán's observations and stances concerning these fundamental, ultimate problems of pragmasemantics are worth relying upon the formal theory that is to realize the desirable purpose of creating a version of formal pragmasemantics simultaneously capable of meeting the criteria and requirements appearing in different non-logics-based/informal areas of the description of human communication and – what is behind it – thinking. Large and massive rotator cuff tears and tears after failed surgical repair are a challenging clinical problem with different treatment options. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the midterm outcomes after rotator cuff repair (RCR) with autologous hamstring tendon graft bridging (tissue-enhanced autologous rotator cuff repair [TEAR] patch) with the hypothesis that outcomes would be reasonable and complication rates would be low. This is a retrospective case series study of patients who underwent open RCR using a TEAR patch from June 2015 to March 2019. The exclusion criteria included evidence of cuff tear arthropathy, advanced fatty infiltration, moderate-to-severe arthropathy, and workers compensation board or litigation involved. Clinical outcome measures were Constant score; Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score; Simple Shoulder Test; Subjective Shoulder Value; range of motion (ROM); and manual muscle test for forward elevation, abduction, external and internal rotation, patient satisfaction, and willingness to perform the operation again. Radiographic outcome measures were magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and radiographs: graft integrity and acromiohumeral distance (AHD). A total of 44 patients were followed (89%) for ≥2 years (45 shoulders, mean age 60.3 years [48-76 years], mean follow-up 4.3 years [2-6 years]). All clinical outcome measures (Constant score, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score, Simple Shoulder Test, Subjective Shoulder Value, ROM, and manual muscle test) demonstrated significant improvement except active external and internal rotation. At 2 years of follow-up, the mean patient satisfaction was high (12.2 of 15 points), and 33 of 38 patients (73.3%) would perform the operation again. A perfect graft integration was observed in 30 (66.7%), a small gap in 7 (15.6%), a retear in 3 (7%), and a complete failure of the tendon patch in 5 (11%) patients. Graft integrity was strongly correlated with the postoperative AHD (r = 0.599, P =.001) and the gain in AHD (r = 0.599, P =.001) but not with ROM or patient-reported outcome measures or patient satisfaction. Four patients required revision surgeries (3 due to deep infection and 1 for poor function and pain). Midterm clinical and radiographic outcomes after RCR with graft bridging using a TEAR patch were reasonable. The procedure resulted in improved shoulder function and a high level of patient satisfaction. The revision rate is acceptable in view of the specific patient group and treatment alternatives. The described technique of the TEAR patch can be a valuable alternative to existing methods and a new autograft source for rotator cuff surgeries that need bridging of a tendon defect. INTRODUCTION: Social connectedness is associated with slower cognitive decline among older adults. Recent research suggests that distinct aspects of social networks may have differential effects on cognitive resilience, but few studies analyze brain structure. METHODS: This study includes 117 cognitively impaired and 59 unimpaired older adults. The effects of social network characteristics (bridging/bonding) on brain regions of interests were analyzed using linear regressions and voxel‐wise multiple linear regressions of gray matter density. RESULTS: Increased social bridging was associated with greater bilateral amygdala volume and insular thickness, and left frontal lobe thickness, putamen, and thalamic volumes. Increased social bonding was associated with greater bilateral medial orbitofrontal and caudal anterior cingulate thickness, as well as right frontal lobe thickness, putamen, and amygdala volumes. DISCUSSION: The associations between social connectedness and brain structure vary depending on the types of social enrichment accessible through social networks, suggesting that psychosocial interventions could mitigate neurodegeneration.
