- Abstract
After finalization of process flow for the capacity expansion of an Integrated Steel Plant, considering the overall design requirements and inter-relationship amongst new and existing facilities, overall layout is developed on available space. Optimization of layout is proposed considering sizes, locational relationship of new units with existing operating units, required limiting conditions, transportation logistics and other auxiliary facilities. Prime objective of layout optimization should be proper utilization of available space which has been identified for expansion. Optimized layout can be developed through 3D integrated approach, which considers a common digital model of the entire plant. It can be achieved by merging the engineering output from various vendors, merging the model of existing plants obtained from works, surveys, and vendors so as to create a seamless layout. The final layout shall be best possible and can be executed in time bound manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POLYCHLORINATED dibenzodioxins ,POLYCHLORINATED dibenzofurans ,SOLUTION (Chemistry) ,ELECTROLYSIS ,ORGANOHALOGEN compounds - Abstract
Studies on the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) during the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution (brine) using graphite or titanium electrodes were carried out at a laboratory scale. High concentrations of PCDFs but no PCDDs were formed in tests using graphite electrodes. With titanium electrodes, PCDFs were only formed when tar pitch was added and mainly originated from the dibenzofuran present in the tar. For the first time, a detailed assessment of the formation of mono- to octachlorinated PCDD/PCDF from tar pitch was investigated. The assessment included of the chlorination steps proved that PCDFs were formed by successive lateral chlorinated from dibenzofuran to MonoCDFs, DiCDFs, and TriCDFs to form the typical known “chlorine pattern” of TetraCDF to OctaCDF with a dominance of 1,2,7,8- and 2,3,7,8-TetraCDFs, 1,2,3,7,8-PentaCDF, and 1,2,3,4,7,8-HexaCDF as marker congeners. The final homologue distributions depended on reaction time and reaction temperature. In addition, electrolysis with non-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofuran, and biphenyl was carried out. As a result, PCDDs, PCDFs, and PCB were formed at comparable yields. Congener patterns in soil samples from a PCDD/F-contaminated site where chlor-alkali electrolysis had been operated for decades in Japan had identical isomer distribution demonstrating the source and contamination potential and risk of these processes. Therefore, sites where in the past 120 years chlor-alkali electrolysis has been operated or where residues from chlor-alkali production or other chlorine using industries have been disposed should be assessed for their pollution level and exposure relevance. The assessment of total organohalogen content revealed that PCDF is only a small fraction of organohalogens in the contaminated soils. For an appropriate risk assessment, also other chlorinated aromatic compounds such as PCBs or PCNs need to be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study expands the existing literature on impact of environmental amenities and disamenities on the value of single family housing by temporally and spatially examining changes in the effect of nature and industry. The study area is bounded by a forest, a portion of which has been designated as a nature preserve and another portion which had various oil wells and was transformed into a nature preserve in 1994. Using market price data from sales transactions collected over a period of twenty-eight years, this study examines the changes in the impact of nature preserve and industrial site in the City of Whittier, CA before and after the conversion. A series of spatial hedonic models is examined in a longitudinal analyses to compare the effects of transformation and examine the recovery process over time across space. The results reveal that it took 10–12 years for the oil well site to recover its positive association to nearby single-family homes as a natural amenity. There was an initial increase of positive association between the site and the sales price of single-family houses upon the conversion. In contrast, positive association between the nature preserve and nearby properties had constantly decreased since the conversion. Ten years after the conversion, the positive impact of the former oil well sites surpassed the positive impact of the neighboring never-developed nature preserve. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Brown fields are fields with significant development history. They may be modeled using deterministic or probabilistic reservoir forecasting workflows. History matching is used to calibrate the reservoir flow model in the deterministic workflow, and to limit the number of acceptable models in the probabilistic workflow. Our task is to find the set of reservoir parameters that minimizes the difference between model performance and historical performance of the field. Two workflows for modeling brown fields are discussed here: deterministic reservoir forecasting, and probabilistic reservoir forecasting. A workflow for green fields is presented in the companion paper (). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

This master thesis studies how Furesø Municipality translates the Smart City concept into tangible action in relation to the development of a new district, Sydlejren, on the now disused Værløse airfield. Furesø Municipality itself describes the new district as a Smart Suburb, which must be technologically advanced, at the forefront of sustainable development while being an attractive residential area. A factual framework has been created by collecting empirical data through interviews and conferences while a literature review of the Smart City concept is the more theoretical basis. The review unfolds the concept and introduces a broad Smart City definition and a theoretical framework. Subsequently the Smart Suburb is analyzed through empirical data in the shape of interviews and written sources. Based on the analyzes of the Smart City concept and the Smart Suburb initiative, possible development perspectives is explored from a Transition Management perspective in a Socio-technical frame. The study concludes that the Smart Suburb in Furesø is no different from the Smart City concept at the conceptual level, but there are some variables which has and may influence the choice of solutions - including physical conditions, strengths within the municipality and the vision of the Smart Suburb itself. The unique opportunity to build up the city from brown field and combine it with the strengths which the municipality holds is not present in the vision or the solutions chosen so far. It is therefore recommended to reformulate the vision based on a Transition Arena perspective and take into account the strengths, policies and initiatives which are already present in the area, and at a national level. This reformulation will result in working with developing unique niche technology which will enhance the municipality's image and position at the same time.Denmark is in need of a coordinated effort to ensure that the development of Smart City solutions happens for the common good. Denmark can obtain a unique position as a testing ground for large international companies that can benefit from the resourceful citizens and strong municipalities. To get started in this development and attracting investors, it will be vital to find new business models that can create value from the data that becomes available while development occurs between numerous stakeholders.

Lately, we often hear popular term - sustainability. Sustainability is defined as development that meets our needs today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs of tomorrow. In Lithuania sustainable development is taking its first steps. By observing this situation I chose my research objects - sustainable urbanism, „brown field” sites and the development of sustainable models in modern cities. „Brown field“ - is an abandoned or even contaminated urban area. Sustainable Development supporters promotes the conversion and revitalization of such areas. In other words, they propose to develop and expand in the city limits and not outside them. Research work complements practice project. So main goal of the research work is to find the optimal conditions, methods and models for sustainable neighborhood development in Lithuania. Project provides an overview of sustainability supported urban theories and movements also successful sustainable design examples. After analysis of the considered theories and practical examples the final conclusions, guidelines, methods and tools for sustainable neighborhood development are presented.

- Abstract
V části ekonomického zhodnocení návrhu na využití areálu, připojíme vlastní návrh na využití komplexu, spolu s cenovými ukazateli finančních nákladů potřebných pro revitalizaci., The term brownfields is an international expression that does not need a Czech equivalent. There is no unified definition of this term, but most commonly it is known objects with depressing elements. It is an object inside an urbanized area or in the open countryside that have lost their original function and its surroundings economic and physical burden. In my work, I will first devote a theoretical basis and detailed characteristics of brownfields. I also deal with the history and current state of the area of the former slaughterhouse and the next chapter is devoted to the analysis of the questionnaire survey between respondents in Ostrava. In the economic evaluation of the proposal for the use of the area, connect its own proposal to use the complex, along with price indicators of financial expenses necessary for revitalization., Ve zpracování, Import 05/08/2014
