TRAVEL writing , *ARTISTIC influence , *OTHER (Philosophy) , *TRAVEL literature , *COINCIDENCE , *NINETEENTH century - Abstract
This study traces changes in 19th-century Czech retellings of Robinson Crusoe, from the Czech translations of German adaptations by Joachim Heinrich Campe, Gustav Adolf Gräbner, and Karl Rudolf Oskar Höcker, to the original Czech retellings by Pavel Josef Šulc, František Doucha, Jan V. Novák, Antonín Mojžíš, and others. This tradition is analysed in connection to changes in contemporary travel literature, with special attention to certain mutual coincidences: for example, the fact that travel literature, from early on, was influenced by such literary topoi as the shipwreck, life on a deserted island, encounter with the other, duels with pirates, etc. These topoi provided the frameworks and methods for writing travel literature; conversely, the stories of real journeys influenced the writing of novels. This mutual coincidence is not unique to Czech literary culture, as the author illustrates through the example of 18th-century adaptations of Robinson Crusoe in the British context. Specific to the 19th-century Czech tradition is a tendency to present the story as a ‘scientific type’ of travelogue, where the narrator serves as a kind of note-taking apparatus, providing expert explanatory notes, and in which the fictional story is set in a specific context (geographical, historical, cultural, or botanical-zoological) in its contemporary world. VOYAGES & travels , *PRINCESSES , *INSPIRATION , *PRINCES , *CORONATIONS - Abstract
The present study focuses on travels of Johann Adolf II of Schwarzenberg. His two English journeys are investigated only briefly and viewed from a different angle than in other studies. The prominent part of the treatise concerns the Italian journey of 1836 and observes particularly the prince's interests related to economic inspiration, as well as personal and organizational aspects of travel. During the Italian journey, the company of travellers faced difficulties such as the crossing of the Alps or illnesses. The aim of the travel was to see big part of Italy from Milan to Venice and Rome, as well as other cities as far as Naples. The atmosphere of the journey resembled a family holiday, because the travelling company included even Princess Eleonore and their two small children. The study also focuses on other Johann Adolf 's journeys, for instance the "gentleman" journey to France or the diplomatic journey to Berlin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Počátkem 19. století ovládlo lineární pojetí času celou společnost. Vydatným pomocníkem byly ekonomické a sociální změny, mj. Na konci století se objevuje ambivalentně přijímaný i ženský sport., The linear understanding of time took hold of the entire society at the beginning of the 19th century. The economic situation as well as the spread of literacy play a large role in this trend. By dividing life into public and private spheres, the time of men and women was also separated. Men took hold of their free time much sooner: they of course had to rest up after work. Even women, however, were allowed free time for meaningful and useful activities. Charity was most respected and with some limitations, these activities also included reading and writing, with both be ing viewed as an escape from reality. Female travel was enjoying more and more popularity – why it was a significant source of educational and national awakening. Women’s sports also appeared at the end of the century.

The main goal of this dissertation is to compare the influence of international politic relations on foreign sports relations and to examine the conditions of national volleyball teams' trips abroad during the period of the so-called state socialism. During this period, the world was divided due to the Cold War and Czechoslovakia came under the Soviet influence. The period of unification of physical education and legislation that influenced the functioning of sports and physical education units, including organized volleyball, is an important milestone of the work. The focus is on the activities of the CSTV, the instructions and recommendations it issued and which athletes had to follow when travelling abroad. At the same time, it is necessary to highlight the activities of the International Volleyball Federation, which was founded by the Czechoslovak Volleyball and Basketball Association. The key point is its expansion and influence on the development of global volleyball rules, which were partly formed by its members, who significantly changed the style of the game. The question is therefore whether the travel opportunities of our athletes abroad for international, friendly or exhibition matches, or even for key events such as the World Championships, European Championships or Olympic Games, have...

This article examines the aesthetic motivation behind the inception of tourism in the mountains. Aesthetic motives played a key role in the development of tourism in the Alps, which in the eighteenth century became a new, ideal type of landscape and a popular destination for artists and scientists, and later for tourists too. What form did this phenomenon take in a different geographical and cultural context? What were its dynamics and specific features? The article traces these motives by analysing texts on the Giant Mountains (Riesengebirge, Krkonoše, Karkonosze), which became a favourite destination for tourists from the German states and the Austrian Empire. At the time these mountains were compared with the Alps, and this article aims to analyse the parallels and differences between the aesthetic appreciation of the Alps and of the Giant Mountains. Together with scientific interest, aesthetic concerns also played an important role in the inception of tourism here. We can see a reflection of contemporary theories of the Sublime and the Picturesque, as well as the ascent of romanticism. The article works with sources from the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, supplementing them with a summary of subsequent developments in the twentieth century.

Recent estimates suggest that there are currently around 4.8 million people who consider themselves to be digital nomads. They are widely depicted in the media, most often as young professionals who successfully combine work, leisure and travel into one holistic lifestyle. Despite this significant presence in today's popular culture, from a research point of view, digital nomadism is almost unexplored phenomenon. Therefore, the aim of this work is the analysis and interpretation of the phenomenon of digital nomadism, not only through my own ethnographic research and reflection, but also in terms of current theoretical concepts in anthropology of tourism and mobility. The research itself focuses mainly on selected aspects often associated with digital nomadism in the mainstream media, and how informants reflect them. I deal with aspects such as the blurred boundaries between work and leisure, mobility slowdown, the origin of co-working spaces, the concept of freedom and, last but not least, the social changes that have led to the global expansion of this phenomenon. This thesis deals with the topic of development and promotion of tourism in the region of Sušice in years 1918 - 1938. It expands the field of research of the author´s bachelor thesis Activities of the Club of Czech Tourist in years 1890 - 1914. Firstly, three big building projects of the Club are observed: construction of Klostermann´s chalet in Modrava and chalet in Prášily, as well as the re-erection of Svatobor´s view tower. The following part focuses on the development of the possibilities of transport in the region: trains, regular and occasional tourist buses and cars. Marked tourist paths for walking are also considered. Later it´s examined whether the centre of the region - the town Sušice - conforms to the typical depiction of a summer resort. Main steps making the locality more attractive for tourists are explored. The changes in numbers of visitors in Sušice from the second half of 1920s are outlined. In the next part the author analyses the vacationers from the summer 1930 in social and vocational terms. The last part compares guidebooks and other promotional materials and based on them enquires, whether the presentation of town Sušice in the interwar period diverges from the end of the 19th century. The topic of nationalism is omnipresent in the whole thesis.

- Abstract
V této době putovala na Skandinávský poloostrov více než desítka diplomatických zástupců rakouských Habsburků, kteří byli doprovázeni často početným služebnictvem, šlechtickými společníky, duchovenstvem, jakož i členy rodiny. Následující text tedy studuje spíše konkrétní taktiky vybraných aktérů raně novověké diplomacie než naplněné cíle v podobě podepsaných smluv a dohodnutých aliancí. Praxe ovlivňující jednání členů císařské ambasády v zahraničí se tak měnila v průběhu času a zkušenosti několika generací se často diametrálně lišily., This work is a contribution to the understanding of early modern diplomacy. In particular, it focuses on the issue of relations between the Habsburg monarchy and Sweden in the 17th and 18th centuries. At that time, more than a dozen diplomatic representatives of the Austrian Habsburgs, who were often accompanied by numerous servants, noble associates, clergy, as well as members of the family, travelled to the Scandinavian Peninsula. They all created a clearly structured body of the foreign embassy, which was influenced by the rules governing early-modern international relations. In many ways, the Kingdom of Sweden was specific to these Central Europeans. Traditionally, it belonged to the enemy in the weapon, antagonism also stemmed from religious differences and a certain mental otherness. Equally characteristic, therefore, must have been the individual approaches that diplomats and the associated staff had chosen for their benefit. The following text, therefore, studies the specific tactics of selected participants of early modern diplomacy, rather than the goals achieved in the form of signed treaties and agreed alliances. Practice that influences the behaviour of members of the imperial embassy abroad has changed over time, and the experience of several generations has often varied widely., Fakulta filozofická, Obhajoby se zúčastnil PhDr.

This thesis deals with the postwar travelers between Czechoslovakia and Great Britain in 1945 - 1948 and it is thematiclly divided into three chapters. The first part focuses on the impacts of the war on European countries and mainly on Czechoslovakia, Breat Britain and Germany. It mainly emphasizes the state of transport infrastructure, which has played a key role in bringing people back home. An important part of these returns was also the sophisticated plan that the Czechoslovak government in exile created. The second part examines the development of Czechoslovak - British relations as well as the work of diplomatic and cultural institutions which played a key role in providing foreign internships and foreign study programs. Through study programs, many students and researchers could visit Great Britain. The work of Czechoslovak exiles and their influence on the British public is also taken into account in this work. The final part examines the travel conditions in post - war Europe. It tries to examine these travel conditions from historical sources and mainly the written and audiovisual memories of the witnesses. The emphasis here is on the description of repatriation from the United Kingdom and on the restoration of civilian transport routes, which have recovered quite quickly after 1945.

The work primarily focuses on the reflection of the daily life of Emperor Leopold I's wife during her travel. Together with the baroque performance practice, long-distance journeys represent the integral part of travels of King Philip IV´s younger daughter. Tato diplomová práce pojednává o kavalírské cestě Ludvíka Josefa z Kounic v letech 1740-1744. O této osobě toho moc nevíme a ani příslušná literatura ke kavalírským cestám moc nenabízí. To vše v porovnání se zahraniční cestou mladého Ludvíka Josefa, který byl na zahraniční peregrinaci vyslán otcem Maxmiliánem Oldřichem z Kounic., This master thesis deals with grand tour of Ludwig Josef von Kaunitz in 1740-1744. There is not much known about this person, not even literary sources provide much information. More famous person, who experienced his grand tour ten years earlier, is the count Wenzel Anton von Kaunitz and Rietberg. Due to proper education, Wenzel Anton was able to reach a successful career. The main focus of this thesis is placed on grand tours in eighteen-forties and its development, Leipzig University and "rationalized" kind of grand tours. These findings are presented in comparison to foreign travels of young Ludwig Josef, who was sent abroad by his father Maxmilian Ulrich von Kaunitz., Fakulta filozofická, Dokončená práce s úspěšnou obhajobou

The objective of this Master's thesis is to reflect personal memories of the folklore group members on ethnographic Chod festivals, which circle around the period from the fifties till the present day. As well as putting the emphasis on comparison between the memories made before and after 1989, I also focus on the component spheres of interpretation, such as topics about traveling of the Chod folklore groups before the year of 1989 or about music careers of each of the narrators. Furthermore, I observe the changes in political situations and its potential influence on Chod Festivals and its organization and the relationship of local folk groups. The primary sources of this thesis consist of interviews conducted by oral history method with former and current members of local folk groups. The text also derives from archived materials, period press and memoir literature. During the reflection on ethnographic festival the text observes not only historical and political aspect, but the musical and social aspect as well. The biggest contribution of the thesis is therefore the presentation of the topic from different points of view. The Master's thesis focuses on the phenomenon of travel from the perspective of Czechoslovak citizens who travelled to destinations offered by travel agencies, trade unions or their employers from the 1970s to 17th November 1989. The time span is defined by the memory of the living narrators, who can refer to their travel in adulthood. The economic and social situation is addressed in the first part of the thesis, followed by issues related to tourism. The main part consists of interpretation of biographical narratives focused on the phenomenon of travel. Synthesis of biographical exploration and acquired data can result in a personal as well as historic view of the travel phenomenon within the defined time span. Findings about travelling and travel industry are summarized at the end of this master's thesis with regard to the present. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
