Klimatförändringar orsakade av människan medför en betydande konsekvens. I Sverige har handlingsplaner och lagkrav införts för att uppnå ett hållbart samhälle. En av branscherna med stor klimatpåverkan i form av växthusgasutsläpp är bygg- och fastighetssektorn. En konkret åtgärd som införts för att främja en hållbar utveckling inom samhällsbyggnadssektorn är lagkravet om klimatdeklaration av byggnader. I denna rapport studeras tre metoder vilka kan användas för att beräkna och redovisa klimatpåverkan från en nyproducerad byggnad. De tre metoderna är klimatdeklaration enligt Boverket, Lokal färdplan Malmö 2030 och Sweden Green Building Councils certifieringssystem NollCO2. I denna rapport görs en jämförelse, utifrån ett livscykelperspektiv, mellan Boverkets klimatdeklaration, LFM30 och NollCO2. Syftet med jämförelsen av metoderna är att underlätta valet av metod inför arbetet med klimatredovisning. Mer specifikt avser jämförelsen metodernas utformning, innehåll, likheter, skillnader samt behandling och tillämpning av klimatkompensation. Informationen om respektive metod inhämtas via en litteraturstudie där den tillgängliga informationen främst inhämtats från respektive aktörs publicerade material. Baserat på denna information utförs därefter jämförelsen. Jämförelsen genomförs med avgränsningar i form av fokusområdena omfattning av metoden, byggnadstyper, byggdelar, klimatdata, beräkning, gränsvärden och klimatkompensation. De tre metoderna utgår från standarderna EN 15978 och EN 15804, vilka redogör för tillvägagångsätt vad gäller tillämpning av livscykelperspektiv på klimatberäkningar och redovisning av klimatpåverkan. Det kan konstateras att metoderna är framtagna av tre aktörer vars verksamhet är olika utformade och i grunden har skilda funktion, varför metodernas utformning och innehåll till viss del skiljer sig åt. Trots detta finns gemensamma faktorer, framför allt tack vare det gemensamma målet om att minska klimatpåverkan från samhällsbyggnadssektorn i Sverig, Climate change caused by humans entails significant consequences. In Sweden plans of actions and new laws has been introduced to achieve a sustainable society. One of the industries with a major climate impact in the form of greenhouse gas emissions is the construction sector. A tangible action made to promote sustainable development within the construction sector is the legal requirement for a climate declaration of new buildings. This report examines three methods that can be used to declare and calculate the climate impact from new constructions. The three methos are, climate declaration according to Boverket, Lokal färdplan Malmö 2030 and Sweden Green Building Council’s certification system NollCO2. The report is structured as a comparison between the structure and content of the methods, as well as similarities and differences. Furthermore, the comparison is carried out, followed by analysis and discussion, with delimitation around the focus areas scope, building types, building components, climate data, calculations, limit values and climate compensation. The methods are based on standards EN 15978 and EN 15804, which describes procedures regarding the application of life cycle perspectives to climate calculations and reporting of climate impact. It can be stated that the methods are developed by three different organizations whose operations are differently structured and have different functions, which is why the content and structure differ to some extent. Despite this, there are common factors, primarily thanks to the common goal of reducing the climate impact from the construction sector.

Scholars and civil society organizations have over the last decade referred to large-scale carbon sequestration TPPs as "carbon colonialism" (Carmody and Taylor, 2016) as well as a "development by dispossession" dressed in new clothing behind words such as climate change mitigation and development (Kröger, 2012). Concerns have been raised that the trade-offs from the implementation of industrial tree plantations (ITPs) may result in conflicting effects on countries' overall development (The Oakland Institute, 2019; Osborne, 2015; Nel & Hill, 2013). Moreover, NGO's and think tanks, such as FIAN (2012) and the Oakland Institute (2017, 2019), have released reports in which such tree planting projects are accused of displacing people and violating human rights (FIAN, 2012; The Oakland Institute, 2017, 2019; Carmody & Taylor, 2016). This thesis explores the impacts of carbon forestry projects, emphasizing the impacts of ITPs on local livelihoods and their subsequent effects on development. Three dimensions have been chosen to limit the scope of this thesis: (1) food security; (2) access to land; and (3) employment & income. The thesis is conducted using a qualitative desk study and secondary analysis of two multiple case studies of Uganda and Mozambique. The findings presented suggest carbon forestry projects may negatively affect all three dimensions, ultimately affecting communities' sustainable development. The author recommends further research to evaluate the complex effects of carbon forestry projects.

Klimatförändringarna är idag ett av mänsklighetens största hot och om inte världens växthusgasutsläpp minskar drastiskt under de kommande åren kan detta medföra svåra konsekvenser både lokalt och globalt. I linje med detta har globala och nationella mål satts för att främja klimatneutrala samhällen och branscher. Byggsektorn står för en stor del av klimatpåverkan, varför det är viktigt att se över utsläpp från denna sektor. Under de senaste åren har flertalet definitioner för klimatneutralitet i byggsektorn presenterats där samtliga är överens om att detta är en viktig strategi för att minska påverkan från vår byggda miljö. Dock tycks en stor osäkerhet råda kring vad som ska inkluderas i en sådan definition. Detta projekt ämnade därför till att undersöka olika definitioner av klimatneutralitet inom byggsektorn med fokus på ‘klimatneutrala byggnader’. Sju olika verktyg inkluderas i denna analys, vilka utgör en blandning av regionala, nationella och internationella initiativ men med den gemensamma nämnaren att alla utvecklat en egen definition av en ‘klimatneutral byggnad’. En litteraturgenomgång ämnade att sätta projektet i en tydlig kontext vilket sedan följdes av en dokumentanalys av verktygen och en intervjustudie med verktygsutvecklare vilka har insyn i de olika definitionernas utformning. Resultatet visade att det råder delade meningar gällande val av systemgränser och tillvägagångssätt för att uppnå klimatneutralitet. Samtliga var överens om att förnyelsebar energiproduktion och elektrifiering kommer vara avgörande för att uppnå detta men däremot uppmärksammades olika klimatåtgärder för att balansera klimatpåverkan. Dessa inkluderade framförallt följande: produktion (och export) av förnyelsebar energi, köpt klimatkompensation och lagringsvärde av biogent kol i trämaterial. Dessutom presenterades energieffektivisering i befintligt bestånd, tekniska lösningar för att långsiktigt lagra, Climate change is one of today’s biggest threats for humanity and if the global greenhouse gas emissions do not drastically decrease during the near future, this could have severe consequences for the world. In line with these challenges, global and national goals have been developed which aim to foster climate-neutral societies and industries. Since the climate effect from the building industry has shown to be major, it is important to consider emissions from this sector. During the recent years, several definitions of climate-neutrality in the built environment have been presented, which is a strategy considered to be important in order to reduce the climate impact from this field. Therefore, this project aimed to investigate different definitions of climate-neutrality in the building industry with the focus ‘climate-neutral buildings’. Seven tools were included, with a mix of regional, national and international focus, which all have presented a unique definition of a climate-neutral building. To settle the project in a clear context, a literature review became the first step. Thereafter, a document analysis was conducted as well as an interview study with tool developers with good insight into the framing of the different tools that were investigated. The result showed that the definitions differ in terms of defined system boundaries and actions chosen to achieve climate-neutrality. All of the investigated tools promoted that renewable energy and electrification lay the foundation for the climate-neutral building definition. However, the climate actions presented for compensating and balancing the emissions differed. The presented actions included, above all: production (and export) of renewable energy, carbon offsets, and storage capacity of biocarbon in wood material. På grund av klimatförändringar och global uppvärmning skapas effekter vilka påverkar både människa och miljö negativt. Att minska mängden genererade växthusutsläpp är en grundläggande åtgärd för att hantera miljöeffekterna. Samtidigt har konsumtionen av utrikes flygresor från Sverige fördubblats sedan 1990-talet vilket är en stor faktor för utsläpp av växthusgaser vilka bidrar till problematiken. Därmed används klimatkompensation som åtgärd för att ersätta de miljövärden som förlorats på grund av flygens utsläpp. Syftet med studien är undersöka de diskurser som finns kring flygets klimatkompensation. Materialet som analyseras består av dagspress insamlat från svenska nationella dagsmedier och analyseras med hjälp av metoden diskursanalys. Studien har resulterat i tre olika diskurser kring klimatkompensation. Inom de olika diskurserna används begreppet klimatkompensation varierande beroende på sammanhang. Resultatet visar att klimatkompensation används för att lindra människors oro för klimatförändringar och även för att en klimatbelastande verksamhet ska framställas som mer hållbar. Klimatkompensation används även som styrmedel för att hantera den mängd utsläpp som överskrider den bestämda mängd utsläpp som får genereras av flygverksamheter. Inom diskurserna riktas även kritik mot verktygets trovärdighet, transparens och socioekonomiska effekter., Due climate change and global warming, effects are created which create negative impacts at humans as well the environment. Reducing the amount of generated greenhouse gas emissions is a fundamental measure for managing environmental impacts. At the same time, consumption of foreign air travel from Sweden has increased and doubled since the 1990s, which is a major factor contributing to the problem. Thus, climate compensation is used as a tool to replace the environmental values lost due to emissions created by aviation. The purpose of the study is to investigate the existing discourses around aviation climate compensation. The analyzed material consists of daily press collected from Swedish national medias and analyzed using the method of discourse analysis. The study resulted in three different discourses on climate compensation. In the different discourses, the concept of climate compensation varies depending on the context. The result shows that climate compensation is used to alleviate people's concerns about climate change and also to depict a climate-impacting business as sustainable. Climate compensation is also used in case of managing the amount of emissions exceeding the maximum allowed amount of emissions generated by aviation operations. In the discourses, criticism is also directed at the tool's credibility, transparency and socio-economic impacts.

Miljöproblemen har länge varit ett aktuellt och omtalat diskussionsämne som man aktivt jobbat för att begränsa och minska människans negativa klimatpåverkan med målsättningar samt nya lagar och krav. Byggsektorn står idag för en betydande del av Sveriges koldioxidutsläpp och för att ha möjlighet att uppnå de mål som finns i Parisavtalet krävs åtgärder i byggbranschen. Klimatneutralitet är ett relativt nytt begrepp i branschen som är högaktuellt i samband med miljöfrågorna. Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka hur man kan bygga mer klimatneutralt vid nybyggnation. Detta har undersökts genom en fallstudie som beräknat ett projekts klimatpåverkan med hjälp av Byggsektorns Miljöberäkningsverktyg, BM 1.0. Fallstudien har avgränsats till att enbart undersöka nybyggnationens material, produktion och energianvändning i driftfasen. Materialen som arbetet har fokuserat på har de material i projektet som har haft störst koldioxidutsläpp vilket har varit betong och armering. För att få en bredare uppfattning om klimatneutralitet utöver fallstudien har experter inom ämnet intervjuats. Studien och arbetet visade att klimatneutralitet fortfarande är i startfasen och att klimatneutralitet går att uppnå till viss del men än är det inte möjligt för byggsektorn i helhet men det finns stor potential för utveckling. Fallstudien visar att enkla åtgärder för att uppnå klimatneutralitet till viss del finns i dagsläget men tillhör inte standarden hos företag i branschen., The environmental problems have for a long time been a current and highly spoken topic of discussion which one has actively worked to limit and reduce the human's negative climate impact with agreements, laws and requirements. Today the constructions sector stands for a significant part of Sweden's carbon dioxide emissions and to be able to achieve the goals in the Paris Agreement, measures in the construction industry are required. Climate neutrality is a relatively new concept in the industry that is highly topical in relation to environmental issues. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how it’s possible to build more climate neutral for new constructions. This has been researched through a case study which has calculated a project's climate impact with the help of Byggsektorns Miljöberäkningsberktyg, BM 1.0. The case study has been delimited to only examine a new construction’s material, production and usage of energy during the operating phase. The material that the thesis has focused on is the project's material which has had the highest carbon dioxide emissions, which has been concrete and armouring. To get a broader view of climate neutrality beyond the case study has experts within the subject been interviewed. The case and thesis showed that climate neutrality is still in the early stages and that to some degree it is possible to achieve climate neutrality but to its entirety for the construction sector is not possible, however there is great potential for development. The case study shows that there are simple actions that can partially achieve climate neutrality in today's current situation however doesn’t belong to the standard within the companies in the industry.

In our time we are well aware of the anthropogenic induced effects of climate change. We as consumers have a choice every time we eat a meal. Is it locally produced and organic or was it flown in from the other side of the world? Food industries are well aware that being ”green” is something that more and more consumers are striving for. If a company offers a climate friendly product to a reasonable price, chances are that people will buy it. This essay uses a case study approach to understand a dairy company’s marketing as climate neutral and its use of climate compensation. With a critical discourse analysis, the aim is to find certain themes used in a specific Swedish context, where a dairy company will benefit of marketing their products as climate neutral. The result was that the company used specific words such as farmer, our responsibility and ecological to justify the dairy industry. The company connected its sustainability work to broader discourses of climate change and claiming that natures’ resilience will benefit from cow’s pastures. At a structural level, climate compensation fits in a market-based logic as well as values of “Swedishness”. This supported the company’s claim that their ecological products are climate neutral even though they are not. The real environmental effect is not accounted for.

Global warming is becoming an increasing issue on the agenda for the world’s policy makers. One way of solving the issues is to reduce the emissions; another is to compensate for them through equally climate positive projects, such as planting trees to sequester carbon. We want to know more about the level of sustainability of climate compensation through tree planting. We perform a cost- benefit analysis to put monetary values on two different aspects of the compensation; the social and the economical. Three different scenarios of land use for climate compensation on 10 hectares in South West Uganda are considered in the analysis. The first scenario is baseline, where the land is left as today, the second scenario is monoculture forestry, where trees are planted on the land, and the third is agroforestry where the planted trees are intercropped with maize. We evaluate the costs and benefits connected to each scenario, and our results show the highest Net Present Value is reached for monoculture forestry. However, the results are not robust, since they are very dependent on what price of carbon equivalents that is used, and what rate of discount. Our sensitivity analysis shows that agroforestry may be equally favourable, depending on what perspective is applied.

I detta examensarbete undersöks hur en svensk kommun kan arbeta med klimatväxling för att minska dess ekologiska fotavtryck och negativa effekt på miljön. Miljöfrågor är något som varje kommun brottas med dagligen för att föra arbetet kring hållbar utveckling framåt. Två forskningsfrågor formulerades som skulle ta reda på vilka faktorer som anställda i en svensk kommun upplever ökar miljömedvetenheten och användningen av elcykeln som arbetsfordon. Tre olika hemtjänstenheter i Borås kommun har undersökts utifrån en kvalitativ ansats ihop med en litteraturstudie. Genom att fokusera på en infrastruktur som främjar elcykelanvändandet, erbjuda utbildningar kring elcykelanvändandet samt arbeta med kampanjer som ökar tillgängligheten på elcyklar kan kommuner skapa en kulturförändring vid val av fordon. Miljöutbildningar, miljöledningssystem och elcyklar ses som fungerande sätt att klimatväxla på, med olika preferenser från person till person beroende på tidigare kunskap och erfarenheter. De tre klimatväxlingsåtgärderna upplevs på olika sätt bidra till att personer agerar på ett mer hållbart sätt. Exempelvis genom bättre resurshantering, eco-driving och via byte av fordon släpps mindre CO2 ut per resa., This thesis examines how a Swedish municipality can work with climate change to reduce its ecological footprint and negative effects on the environment. Environmental issues are something that every municipality encounters daily to forward the work on sustainable development. Two research questions were formulated that would determine the factors that employees in a Swedish municipality experience increases environmental awareness and usage of electrical bikes as work vehicles. Three different home care service units in Borås municipality has been examined based on a qualitative approach together with a literature study. By focusing on an infrastructure that encourage e-bike usage, provide education on ebikes and creating campaigns that increases the availability of e-bikes, municipalities can create a cultural change in the selection of vehicles. Environmental education, environmental management systems and e-bikes are working ways of climate compensation, with different preferences from person to person, depending on previous knowledge and experience. The three types of climate compensation alternatives are perceived as different ways to help people act more sustainable. For example, through better resource management, education in eco-driving and lesser CO2-emissions per trip by changing vehicle.
