Recent studies have increasingly focused on mindfulness as it relates to interpersonal processes. In particular, cross‐sectional research has shown that parents' dispositional mindfulness is associated with increased mindful parenting and coparenting, as well as improved coparenting relationship quality. The current study replicates and extends such work, representing the first longitudinal investigation of mindful coparenting. A sample of 449 parents (60% mothers) of children between the ages of 3 and 17 years were recruited online through Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk) as part of a larger study on the assessment of parenting. Parents reported on their dispositional mindfulness, mindful coparenting, and coparenting relationship quality at three time points across an 8‐month period. Results from a cross‐lagged panel model using maximum likelihood estimation suggested that higher levels of parental mindfulness at baseline were related with higher levels of mindful coparenting at 4 months, which, in turn, were related to higher quality coparenting relationship at 8 months. Support for this model was found for both mothers and fathers and across all examined child age groups (i.e., early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence), highlighting the robust nature of these effects. Overall, findings suggest that increasing mindfulness at an individual level can promote meaningful change within a family system, specifically through improvements in coparenting and parent–child interactions. This paper discusses the inclusion of ideas from mindfulness, embodiment, and associated brain research in poststructural family therapies. Connecting research and practice across diverse fields is presented as enriching therapeutic work, increasing clinical effectiveness, and broadening options for families seeking our assistance. Ways of incorporating mindfulness and embodiment are described and offer distinctively novel practices not typically used in traditional forms of poststructural therapies. These innovative practices are illustrated by clinical work with a mother and her five‐year‐ daughter who survived a dangerous health crisis and an extremely painful hospitalization. Therapeutic work with this family exemplifies how traumatic experiences are not always accessible through linguistic means alone. Working with interpersonal mind–body practices can uniquely contribute to relaxing the sympathetic nervous system and activating the social engagement branch of the parasympathetic nervous system. The inclusion of such practices can provide valuable opportunities to facilitate the emergence of preferred experiences of self for all family members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MINDFULNESS , *SYSTEMATIC reviews , *COUPLES therapy - Abstract
Over the past decades, mindfulness‐based interventions have been shown to improve individual health and well‐being in clinical and nonclinical settings. More recently, secular contemplative trainings were adapted to the couple context as research showed satisfying couple relationships to be one of the strongest predictors of physical and mental health. Mindfulness‐based interventions hence seem to be a promising treatment in couple counseling and therapy in both clinical and nonclinical settings. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to provide an overview of the emerging literature in the field of mindfulness‐based interventions for couples and other dyads. Overall, sixteen studies met the inclusion criteria. To summarize the heterogeneous quantitative literature regarding individual outcomes, mindfulness interventions for couples seem to increase mindfulness, self‐compassion, well‐being, and quality of life. Additionally, we found initial evidence of beneficial effects on relieving psychopathological symptoms and psychobiological stress measures. Measures of relationship quality were the predominant dyadic outcome. Based on these studies, we cautiously conclude that mindfulness trainings can enhance relationship quality. Practitioners should be aware that mindfulness‐based interventions for couples can potentially improve the perceived relationship quality between partners and the individual burden. Future studies should expand the field, particularly with regard to other contemplative practices for couples such as compassion interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma symptoms have been linked with intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration and victimization among men, yet the field lacks depth in several key areas hampering progress toward violence intervention. Specifically, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) dominates the field's scope of trauma symptoms under study, limiting understanding of other manifestations of trauma especially among men. Furthermore, most research focuses exclusively on men's physical IPV perpetration and rarely focuses on other types of IPV, severity of violence, or men's victimization. Also, few studies examine potential protective factors grounded in the ACE framework, such as mindfulness, among clinical populations. Finally, most research has not focused on men of color, despite some racial/ethnic minority groups disproportionate rates of IPV exposure. Therefore, the relationships between IPV frequency and severity (psychological, physical, injury) and ACEs, PTSD, trauma symptomology (separate from PTSD), and mindfulness self‐efficacy were examined in a sample of 67 predominantly low‐income men of color in a batterer intervention program. More than half of the sample (51.5%) reported exposure to four or more ACEs, and 31.1% met the clinical cutoff for a probable PTSD diagnosis. Higher ACE scores predicted increased rates for nearly all types of self‐reported IPV perpetration and victimization. PTSD symptoms and complex trauma symptom severity together explained between 13% and 40% of IPV outcomes, and each was uniquely associated with certain types of self‐reported IPV victimization and perpetration frequency and severity. Mindfulness self‐efficacy was associated with decreased self‐report psychological IPV perpetration and victimization frequency and severity. Clinical implications relevant to marginalized men are reviewed, including screening, training, and potential therapeutic interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Caregivers play a crucial role in the socialization of youth emotion understanding, competence, and regulation, which are implicated in youth social and emotional health; however, there is less understanding of parental psychosocial or cognitive factors, like mindful parenting, that may be associated with the use of particular emotion socialization (ES) strategies. This study tests a model of the cross‐sectional and short‐term longitudinal associations between mindful parenting and supportive and nonsupportive ES strategies in a community sample of parents (N = 246; 63.8% mothers) of youth ranging from ages 3–12. Caregivers reported on mindful parenting and ES strategies at two time points 4 months apart. The structural equation model indicated that higher levels of mindful parenting are positively related to supportive ES responses and negatively related to nonsupportive ES responses both concurrently and over time. The longitudinal association between mindful parenting and nonsupportive, but not supportive, ES was marginally larger for fathers as compared to mothers. Given the documented impact of ES strategies on youth emotional and behavioral outcomes and interventions emerging to educate parents about how to provide a healthy emotional atmosphere, incorporating a focus on mindful parenting strategies may provide one pathway to increase supportive responses and decrease nonsupportive ones. Individual and group‐based psychotherapeutic interventions increasingly incorporate mindfulness‐based principles and practices. These practices include a versatile set of skills such as labeling and attending to present‐moment experiences, acting with awareness, and avoiding automatic reactivity. A primary motivation for integrating mindfulness into these therapies is compelling evidence that it enhances emotion regulation. Research also demonstrates that family relationships have a profound influence on emotion regulation capacities, which are central to family functioning and prosocial behavior more broadly. Despite this evidence, no framework exists to describe how mindfulness might integrate into family therapy. This paper describes the benefits of mindfulness‐based interventions, highlighting how and why informal mindfulness practices might enhance emotion regulation when integrated with family therapy. We provide a clinical framework for integrating mindfulness into family therapy, particularly as it applies to families with adolescents. A brief case example details sample methods showing how incorporating mindfulness practices into family therapy may enhance treatment outcomes. A range of assessment modalities from biological to behavioral demonstrates the breadth with which the benefits of a family‐based mindfulness intervention might be evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EXERCISE therapy , *WAR victims , *PSYCHOSOCIAL factors , *SENSES , *ATTENTION , *SOMATIC sensation , *PSYCHOLOGY - Abstract
This article discusses possible positive and negative effects of directing attentional focus on somatic sensations in the sport and exercise therapy programme Movi Kune with survivors of war and torture, aiming to contribute to a better understanding of possible psychosocial processes that can be facilitated in sport and exercise. Qualitative analysis of data, from participant observation and interviews with the participants of the programme, revealed that, depending on the activities carried out and the direction of the attentional focus, different processes and effects took place. Directing attentional focus on bodily sensations appeared related to bodily awareness and to processes related to mindfulness. However, participants were also exposed to negative sensations (e.g. pain), which produced avoidance behaviours on their part, to protect the 'traumatised body'. These results have practical implications for working with sport and exercise from a psychosocial perspective with refugees of war and people with mental disorders (e.g, PTSD, depression, anxiety). - Abstract
Cognitive-behavioral therapy focused on insomnia (CBT-I) is useful to improve sleep and other manifestations of fibromyalgia (FM). It has also been suggested that mindfulness-based therapy (MBT) may help alleviate insomnia, but it is unknown whether its clinical benefits are higher than CBT-I on FM. This review analyzes the value of the MBT to address sleep, pain, depression and impairment in FM and its differential efficacy regarding CBT-I. The MEDLINE, PsyARTICLES, SCOPUS and Cochrane Library databases for the period 2000-2015 were examined, and randomized controlled trials that implemented CBT-I or MBT in patients with FM were selected, and 11 studies were identified. CBT-I achieved higher changes than MBT in sleep but lower changes in pain, and both therapies achieved significant improvements in depression and impairment, although favorable magnitude to CBT-I. The possibility of extending the clinical benefits that enable CBT-I on the FM incorporating the principles of mindfulness is suggested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Introduction: Pain is a complex symptom with many causes leading to disability, deterioration in quality of life, and high expenditure for the health system. Mindfulness strategies are a therapeutic alternative for pain. Objective: To review the evidence on the use of mindfulness for the management of pain. Methods: A literature search and selection was carried out in Cochrane, Embase, SciELO, Pubmed, Ebsco, Lilacs, BMJ, Scopus and ScienceDirect databases, limited to English and Spanish languages, published between 2010 and 2020. Results: We included 55 papers and determined that the evidence in acute pain is non-conclusive, although some studies find positive results. There is a significant positive effect on pain in centrally sensitized diseases. In chronic oncological pain there is no evidence on pain reduction, but there is evidence of a positive impact on quality of life. In children and teenagers, lack of maturity of the central nervous system seems like the cause of the lack of effect of these interventions. Conclusions: Mindfulness-based interventions are safe and have a beneficial effect on chronic non-oncological pain in adults. They can play an adjunctive role in usual treatment. Research is required in acute pain and pain in children and adolescents.

- Abstract
The aim of the present study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire in Mexico (FFMQ-M) solving previous methodological limitations. A transversal study was carried out with 1210 Mexican students and a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis was performed in Mplus 7.0. A confirmatory factor analysis in the calibration sample (n1= 620) indicated as best model a total of 19 items structured into four first order factors (Nonreacting against internal experiences, Nonjudging internal experiences, Acting with awareness, Describing own experiences), without Observing dimension, loading in a second order factor (mindfulness). This model also exhibited good model fit in a second confirmatory factor analysis in the validation sample (n2= 590). The invariance test indicated the existence of strict invariance. Finally, the concurrent validity between the indicators of mindfulness and the self-reported measures of life quality, life satisfaction, positive and depressive affect and the perception academic stressors was analyzed. These results provide information about the components of mindfulness and their relationship with health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) programme is a structured, multimodal and unespecific instructive or psychoeducative intervention. It has been designed to improve the participants' mindfulness focused on the present time. Its effectiveness has been proved in chronic pain (including fibromyalgia), recurrent depression or with residual symptoms, stress in general and in diverse anxiety disorders, as well as in certain medical conditions such as cancer, resistant epilepsy, psoriasis and HIV, among others. The evidential body that has been accumulated to date is highly promising strongly indicative of the benefits of MBSR in the short and medium term. However, more appropriate studies are needed in order to confirm the benefits of MBSR in the long term. Powerful studies with good methodological quality are also needed in order to confirm the efficacy and effctiveness of MBSR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study is to analyze the effects of a mindfulness training psycho-educative program on self-efficacy in the academic performance and relaxation states in a sample of High School students. A randomized controlled trial with pretest-posttest measurements was used with an experimental group and a control group (waiting list). The Cartagena Questionnaire (Cartagena, 2008) and the SRSI Questionnaire (Smith, 2005a) were employed. The statistical analyses carried out on the studied variables showed significant improvements in favor of the experimental group compared with the control group on the levels of self-efficacy in academic performance, as well as on the states of basic relaxation, mindfulness and positive energy. The program also produced a significant reduction in the experimental group compared with the control group in the dimension of perceived stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mindfulness construct, defined as "paying attention on purpose, in the present moment and nonjudgementally to the present experience" (Kabat-Zinn, 1982) and considered part of the third generation techniques in cognitive-behavioural therapies, is being applied in several fields with benefits in important variables such as stress or anxiety levels, pain or life quality. It's been recently used for the first time in sports psychology to increase the performance levels of athletes with very well defined programs (Birrer, 2012). The aim of this article is to analyze the mindfulness-based interventions and see the potential benefits and advantages that mindfulness could bring in the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries.

Sin embargo, la falta de muestra dio lugar a resultados estadísticamente no significativos., The objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of an online program of a Compassion and Mindfulness-Based Intervention (MBI) among health personnel. The MBI is assessesthe levels of burnout and wellness of aclinical randomized essayusing elective sampling. Thirty-two health professionals (facultative, nurses and physiotherapists) that worked during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreakwere included. The sample was randomized in three groups: a virtual synchronous intervention based on Mindfulness, an asynchronous group with the same content and a third group with relaxation techniques. The Mindfulness Intervention consisted inconscious breathing, self-compassion, knowledge of feelings and emotions exercises, among others. The programme was eight weeks long with frequent reminders and stimulating messages sent before practices. The levels of mindfulness and burnout before and after the intervention were measured by implementing two questionnaires; The “FFMQ-E” (Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire” and the “MBI-HSS” (Maslach Burnout Inventory of Human Social Services) before and after the intervention. The results on burnout indicated tha the level of emotional exhaustion decreased whilstpersonal fulfilment increased. The levels of mindfulness measured by FFMQ-E were globally modified from 122.5 to 128.7on the global sample. As a conclusion, the programme showed a decrease in emotional exhaustion and an increase on the levelsof mindfulness on the synchronic group, which can produce a positive impact on the level ofburnout in this particular collective. Nevertheless, the low sample size was insufficient to make the results statistically significant.

- Abstract
Trait mindfulness has received considerable attention in recent years because several studies indicate that the training in mindfulness reduces the symptoms of several psychological problems such as depression. Recently, the training in mindfulness has been extended to samples of adolescents. Therefore, the measurement of trait mindfulness in adolescents has become relevant. In this study the psychometric properties of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale- Adolescents (MAAS-A) are evaluated in Spanish adolescents. For this purpose, 1215 adolescents (597 girls and 618 boys) aged between 14 and 18 years old participated in this study. The adolescents completed the MAAS-A and measures of depression, antisocial behavior, anger, drug abuse and lack of self-control. The results confirm the one-factor structure of the MAAS-A. The trait of mindfulness is negatively correlated with symptoms of depression, antisocial behavior, anger, drug abuse and lack of self-control. Furthermore, the adolescents who display severe depressed mood score significantly lower on mindfulness than the adolescents without symptoms or with mild and moderate depressive mood.

- Abstract

The multidimensional model of pain emphasizes the influence of emotional and cognitive components in the subjective experience of pain. From this perspective, the successful management of pain seems to require psychological treatment. The present study examined the differential effects of a brief psychological intervention program based on mindfulness and values in the diverse dimensions of chronic pain associated with rheumatic disease. Ten participants were assessed with the McGuill's Pain Questionnaire and a Scale of Worry and Self-efficacy. The results indicate that the intervention program improved the management of pain at post-intervention assessment, showing specific reductions in the following dimensions: evaluative component of pain, perception of actual pain intensity and worry about illness and pain. In addition, a reduction in amount of painful points was found at 8-months follow-up. Despite its methodological limitations, our results suggest that a brief mindfulness and values-based intervention can be useful in the management of pain in patients with chronic rheumatic conditions. In recent decades, a new set of models within the cognitive-behavioral approach have emerged: Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy. The emergence of these new models has been accompanied by intense debates about the role of cognition and the incorporation of mindfulness skills. The objective of this paper is, first, to describe the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and secondly, to present the results obtained in the research and reflect on the consequences thereof, highlighting strengths and limitations of this new treatment model. The purpose of this experimental study, using pretest-postest-follow-up measurements, with one experimental group and one control group, was to verify whether a mindfulness programme produces a reduction in levels of emotional tiredness and burnout, and improves the levels of academic engagement in a group of university psychology students. In the experimental group we can observe a significant decrease in emotional tiredness and burnout and a significant increase in academic engagement. Follow-up measures showed that these results were maintained for six months after the termination of the intervention in the experimental group. The importance and usefulness of mindfulness techniques in the educative system is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A range of assessment modalities from biological to behavioral demonstrates the breadth with which the benefits of a family‐based mindfulness intervention might be evaluated., https://youtu.be/KqViIJ47FTo
