The power of Bayesian multilevel modeling and contrast analysis for food research is illustrated by meta-analysis of weight–diameter relations of apples (first level) at the factors cultivar, orchard site, year of harvest and tree (second level). Contrast analysis compares the effect of factors. Multilevel modeling connects levels, prevents over- and underfitting and accounts for dependencies in measurements/observations. A nonlinear power–law relation of weight-diameter is derived with parameters for spherical approximation and density. Literature data were analyzed in three ways: i) completely pooled (ignoring variation between groups), ii) per factor (no-pooling, ignoring similarities between groups) and iii) partially pooled (acknowledging variation and similarities, i.e. multilevel modelling). The power–law relation was obeyed at tree, orchard, harvest year and cultivar level. Very small differences were found per tree, orchard site and year of harvest, but differences between cultivars were more substantial. Parameter estimates from multilevel modeling differed between complete pooling and no-pooling. Spherical approximation of apples appeared reasonable, whereas apple densities differ considerably per cultivar. Bayesian analysis appears very suitable for model building, validation, predictive capacity and visualisation of parameter uncertainties. The approach can be applied in a much wider context and more complicated relations than considered here for apple characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The a priori procedure was designed as a pre-data procedure whereby researchers could find the sample sizes necessary to ensure that sample statistics to be obtained are within particular distances of corresponding population parameters with known probabilities. Researchers specify desired precisions (distances of sample statistics from corresponding population parameters) and desired confidences (probabilities of being within desired distances), and this procedure provides necessary sample sizes to meet precision and confidence specifications. Although the a priori procedure has been devised for a variety of experimental paradigms, these have all been simple. The present article constitutes its extension to analysis of variance models. A fortunate side effect of the equations to be proposed is an improvement in efficiency even for a paradigm that fits a previously published article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Loneliness-perceived social isolation-is defined as a discrepancy between existing social relationships and desired quality of relationships. Whereas most research has focused on existing relationships, we consider the standards against which people compare them. Participants who made downward social or temporal comparisons that depicted their contact with others as better (compared to other people's contact or compared to the past) reported less loneliness than participants who made upward comparisons that depicted their contact with others as worse (Study 1-3). Extending these causal results, in a survey of British adults, upward social comparisons predicted current loneliness, even when controlling for loneliness at a previous point in time (Study 4). Finally, content analyses of interviews with American adults who lived alone showed that social and temporal comparisons about contact with others were both prevalent and linked to expressed loneliness (Study 5). These findings contribute to understanding the social cognition of loneliness, extend the effects of comparisons about social connection to the important public health problem of loneliness, and provide a novel tool for acutely manipulating loneliness.

COMPUTER software - Abstract
Mediation analysis is widely used to test and inform theory and debate about the mechanism(s) by which causal effects operate, quantitatively operationalized as an indirect effect in a mediation model. Most effects operate through multiple mechanisms simultaneously, and a mediation model is likely to be more realistic when it is specified to capture multiple mechanisms at the same time with the inclusion of more than one mediator in the model. This also allows an investigator to compare indirect effects to each other. After an overview of the mechanics of mediation analysis, we advocate formally comparing indirect effects in models that include more than one mediator, focusing on the important distinction between questions and claims about value (i.e., are two indirect effects the same number?) versus magnitude (i.e., are two indirect effects equidistant from zero or the same in strength?). After discussing the shortcomings of the conventional method for comparing two indirect effects in a multiple mediator model—which only answers a question about magnitude in some circumstances—we introduce several methods that, unlike the conventional approach, always answer questions about difference in magnitude. We illustrate the use of these methods and provide code that implements them in popular software. We end by summarizing simulation findings and recommending which method(s) to prefer when comparing like- and opposite-signed indirect effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article represents a revised chapter of my book György Ligeti's Creation in the Stylistic Context of the 20st Century, published in 1999. It shows the divergent and contrasting aspects of the composer's pieces, their synaesthesis and their preference for allusions and illusions. Ligeti's whole work is a large spectrum built with associable musical structures that are also found with other composers or even in extramusical artistic productions. But despite this, it remains original and innovative, not belonging to any stylistic orientation of 20th century music. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cornel Țăranu became history. Among the works he has left us are four piano miniatures composed in the 1960s. We have set out to analyse two of them, Contrast I-II, looking at the musical contrasts that are at the basis of the genesis of these two works. We are referring to the rhythmic, dynamic, tempo, register, texture and organization contrasts of the sound material. The results show that the two works can stand alongside any other piano composition of the universal creation of the second half of the 20th century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The following is a brief comparative / contrasting discourse of "situation types" in English clauses and their Polish renditions in "The Hobbit or There and Back Again" by J. R. R. Tolkien. The article highlights certain types of situations in English predicates which are intertextually related to their Polish counterparts expressed through contrastive lexical means. The description seeks to sensitize Polish users of English to the impact of the aspectuality of English clauses on the construal of the situations presented in the dynamics of discourse, which is 'limited' to the grammatical means available within the Polish language. GENE expression , *GENES - Abstract
We are interested in detecting a departure from the baseline in a longitudinal analysis in the context of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). In particular, we are given gene expression reads at two time points for a fixed number of genes and individuals. The individuals can be subdivided into two groups, denoted as groups A and B. Using the two time points, we compute a contrast of gene expression reads per individual and gene. The age of each individual is known and it is used to compute, for each gene separately, a linear regression of the gene expression contrasts on the individual's age. Looking at the intercept of the linear regression to detect a departure from the baseline, we aim to reliably single out those genes for which there is a difference in the intercept among those individuals in group A and not in group B. In this work, we develop testing methodology for this setting based on two hypothesis tests—one under the null and one under an appropriately formulated alternative. We demonstrate the validity of our approach using a dataset created by bootstrapping from a real data application in the context of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Preoperative clinical MRI protocols for gliomas, brain tumors with dismal outcomes due to their infiltrative properties, still rely on conventional structural MRI, which does not deliver information on tumor genotype and is limited in the delineation of diffuse gliomas. The GliMR COST action wants to raise awareness about the state of the art of advanced MRI techniques in gliomas and their possible clinical translation. This review describes current methods, limits, and applications of advanced MRI for the preoperative assessment of glioma, summarizing the level of clinical validation of different techniques. In this second part, we review magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST), susceptibility‐weighted imaging (SWI), MRI‐PET, MR elastography (MRE), and MR‐based radiomics applications. The first part of this review addresses dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) and dynamic contrast‐enhanced (DCE) MRI, arterial spin labeling (ASL), diffusion‐weighted MRI, vessel imaging, and magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF). Guido Melchior's important and rich book (Melchior Knowing and Checking. An Epistemological Investigation2019) draws our attention to the much neglected topic of checking. There are many new leads to follow. Here, I will pick a few that seem to me to allow the most room for discussion and disagreement: the alleged modal profile of checking (Sect. 1), the contrastive aspects of checking (Sect. 2), and the relation of checking to closure (Sect. 3). I will end with two smaller points worth bringing up here (Sect. 4). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article explores sensations' role in cognition through analyzing expressions in natural language in search of a sensory schema. I argue that if it exists, the schema originates from the universal need to differentiate between patterns by increasing contrasts, which is linguistically manifested in the practice of grading adjectives and adverbs in the context of antonyms. - Abstract
This project focused on exploring the different ways contrasts can be created in music, both in composition and improvisation. Two elements were explored specifically: transitions and “structural units”, a compositional method by Cecil Taylor where short musical fragments, or units, are used as a basis for improvisation. Three compositions were written, rehearsed, and performed with a quartet on a degree concert program at KMH. Different contrasting elements were used in the compositions, as well as different types of transitions, and structural units were used in two ways. The project was an important milestone in the author’s artistic development, and he succeeded in his goal of using contrasts to make music that was exciting to him., Setlist:Units 2 - composed by Hannes ArasonVesturheiði - composed by Hannes ArasonMusica Ricercata VII / Bls. 127 - composed by Hannes ArasonMusicians: Hannes Arason - trumpet, flügelhorn, piccolo trumpetOskar Nöbbelin - pianoAmanda Karström - upright bassFilip Öhman - drumsAudio mixed and mastered by Jóhann Vignir VilbergssonVideo recording by Hannes ArasonOther:Units 1 - composed by Hannes Arason, performed by Hannes Arason and Fredrik Ljungkvist, recorded 07.12.23 by Fredrik Ljungkvist at KMH

omissive causation ,mental models ,reasoning ,contrasts - Abstract
Omissions figure prominently in causal reasoning fromdiagnosis to ascriptions of negligence. One philosophicalproposal posits that omissions are accompanied by acontrasting alternative that describes a case of orthodox (non-omissive) causation (Schaffer, 2005; Bernstein, 2014). Apsychological hypothesis can be drawn from this contrastview of omissions: by default, humans should interpretomissive causations as representing at least two possibilities,i.e., a possibility representing the omission and a possibilityrepresenting a contrast. The theory of mental models supposesthat reasoners construct only one possibility (the omission) bydefault, and that they consider separate alternativepossibilities in sequential order. Two experiments test thecontrast hypothesis against the model theory, and findevidence in favor of the model-theoretic account.

Abstract There is extensive choice in R to support meta‐analyses. Two packages in this ecosystem include meta and metafor and provide an excellent opportunity to apply a structured checklist previously developed for contrasts between R packages relevant to challenges in ecology and evolution. Meta is a direct, intuitive choice for rapid implementation of general meta‐analytical statistics. Metafor is a comprehensive package best suited for relatively more complex models. Both packages provide estimates of heterogeneity, excellent visualization tools, and functions to explore publication bias. The package metafor has a steeper learning curve but greater rewards. Reference to the learning curve and capacities of the statistical software Stata provided a benchmark outside the R ecosystem and confirmed the consistency in statistics. The usefulness of meta‐analyses is not just in the synthesis of the research but in the process of doing the scientific synthesis. Reporting of contrasts and checks for robust statistics is an important contribution to more transparent and reproducible scientific syntheses.

This article explores the transition from work to higher education and how vocational teacher students talk about the transition from occupational work to vocational teacher education. Previous research has identified students’ experiences of coherence in higher education as a challenge, and in this article the aspect of coherence that explores the contrasts and conflicts between vocational teacher students’ past experiences as occupational workers and experiences in vocational teacher education (biographic coherence) is explored. It is a qualitative study with participant observations and focus group interviews with Norwegian vocational teacher students at their second year of a bachelor’s degree programme to become vocational teachers. The analysis shows that students use metaphors and contrasts when they talk about the transition from occupational work to higher education. The metaphors and contrasts elicit an emotional aspect of the transition from work to education, and how students use their previous experiences from occupational work to give meaning to experiences in education.

Abstract Background RNAseq is nowadays the method of choice for transcriptome analysis. In the last decades, a high number of statistical methods, and associated bioinformatics tools, for RNAseq analysis were developed. More recently, statistical studies realised neutral comparison studies using benchmark datasets, shedding light on the most appropriate approaches for RNAseq data analysis. Results DiCoExpress is a script-based tool implemented in R that includes methods chosen based on their performance in neutral comparisons studies. DiCoExpress uses pre-existing R packages including FactoMineR, edgeR and coseq, to perform quality control, differential, and co-expression analysis of RNAseq data. Users can perform the full analysis, providing a mapped read expression data file and a file containing the information on the experimental design. Following the quality control step, the user can move on to the differential expression analysis performed using generalized linear models thanks to the automated contrast writing function. A co-expression analysis is implemented using the coseq package. Lists of differentially expressed genes and identified co-expression clusters are automatically analyzed for enrichment of annotations provided by the user. We used DiCoExpress to analyze a publicly available RNAseq dataset on the transcriptional response of Brassica napus L. to silicon treatment in plant roots and mature leaves. This dataset, including two biological factors and three replicates for each condition, allowed us to demonstrate in a tutorial all the features of DiCoExpress. Conclusions DiCoExpress is an R script-based tool allowing users to perform a full RNAseq analysis from quality controls to co-expression analysis through differential analysis based on contrasts inside generalized linear models. DiCoExpress focuses on the statistical modelling of gene expression according to the experimental design and facilitates the data analysis leading the biological interpretation of the results.

- Abstract
Objective: Patients with Alzheimer disease dementia (ADD) often show impaired orientation and navigation. Signage offers an opportunity to compensate for these deficits, communicate information efficiently and facilitate wayfinding. Certain properties of signs such as colors and contrasts may beneficially affect the uptake and processing of information particularly in ADD patients. Methods: Thirty-six healthy older adults and 30 ADD patients performed a computerized color perception task that required discriminating different color combinations. The effects of different contrast features on performance accuracy and speed in the 2 experimental groups were examined by nonparametric mixed analysis of variances. Results: Analyses revealed a significant effect of contrast polarity on reaction times, significant effects of group on reaction times and errors as well as a marginally significant interaction of group×color on errors. All participants benefitted from positive contrast polarity (ie, dark target on lighter background) as indicated by increased performance speed. Furthermore, ADD patients reacted slower and less accurate than healthy controls, but showed higher accuracy at black-white and red-yellow than at blue-green color combinations. Conclusions: Our findings suggest the implementation of signs with positive contrast polarity to ensure faster reactions. In addition, certain color combinations may enhance accuracy, particularly in patients with ADD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

This study aims to explore experiences of healthcare professionals, including midwives, obstetricians, and assistant nurses, after a perinatal death. A qualitative study design was used, and 20 participants were interviewed. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Three categories emerged from the data: (i) external responses, (ii) internal responses, and (iii) personal responses. Generally, there was a “culture of blame” in response to the perinatal death among the professionals. The lack of opportunity to deal with perinatal death and having an inappropriate way to handle feelings and experiences are the important findings of this study. If not well supported, the concerned healthcare professionals may face serious health challenges in the long term. Hence, supportive interventions need to be designed and evaluated to provide adequate support to the concerned professionals.

Background: RNAseq is nowadays the method of choice for transcriptome analysis. In the last decades, a high number of statistical methods, and associated bioinformatics tools, for RNAseq analysis were developed. More recently, statistical studies realised neutral comparison studies using benchmark datasets, shedding light on the most appropriate approaches for RNAseq data analysis. Results: DiCoExpress is a script-based tool implemented in R that includes methods chosen based on their performance in neutral comparisons studies. Conclusions: DiCoExpress is an R script-based tool allowing users to perform a full RNAseq analysis from quality controls to co-expression analysis through differential analysis based on contrasts inside generalized linear models. DiCoExpress focuses on the statistical modelling of gene expression according to the experimental design and facilitates the data analysis leading the biological interpretation of the results. TEXTURES , *FOOD texture , *FOOD preferences - Abstract
Texture has long been considered an important attribute for food acceptance. However, which specific textural characteristics contribute to overall acceptance of a food is not well understood. It has been suggested that texture contrasts and combinations are a universal feature in giving foods a desirable texture, yet this notion is largely based upon anecdotal data. This study uses multiple survey research methods to assess the importance of texture contrast and combinations across cultures (Poland, U.S.A., and Singapore). Participants (N = 288) completed a survey that included overt measures of food texture contrast importance as well as free response questions regarding texture. The overall importance of texture for food liking was not different across the populations. However, the participants from Singapore and Poland gave more importance to a desirable food having multiple textures than the U.S.A. cohort. When looking at free responses, participants were twice as likely to mention combinations (multiple textures) with a texture contrast when describing foods they liked, in comparison to foods they disliked. This was observed across all three cultures. However, the type and quantity of texture terms used within combinations were different among cultures. For instance, Singaporeans enjoyed more texturally diverse food combinations than the other two cultures. These findings highlight the importance of texture contrasts and combinations in three distinct cultures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Purpose: A scene consisting of a white stimulus on a black background incorporates strong luminance contrast. When both stimulus and background receive different colors, luminance contrast decreases but color contrast increases. Here, we sought to charac-terize the pattern of stimulus salience across varying trade-offs of color and luminance contrasts by using the pupil light response. Methods: Three experiments were conducted with 17, 16, and 17 healthy adults. For all experiments, a flickering stimulus (2 Hz; alternating color to black) was presented super-imposed on a background with a complementary color to the stimulus (i.e., opponency colors in human color perception: blue and yellow for Experiment 1, red and green for Experiment 2, and equiluminant red and green for Experiment 3). Background luminance varied between 0% and 45% to trade off luminance and color contrast with the stimulus. By comparing the locus of the optimal trade-off between color and luminance across different color axes, we explored the generality of the trade-off. Results: The strongest pupil responses were found when a substantial amount of color contrast was present (at the expense of luminance contrast). Pupil response ampli-tudes increased by 15% to 30% after the addition of color contrast. An optimal pupillary responsiveness was reached at a background luminance setting of 20% to 35% color contrast across several color axes. Conclusions: These findings suggest that a substantial component of pupil light responses incorporates color processing. More sensitive pupil responses and more salient stimulus designs can be achieved by adding subtle levels of color contrast between stimulus and background. Translational Relevance: More robust pupil responses will enhance tests of the visual field with pupil perimetry.

MANUFACTURING processes , *PIANO - Abstract
Due to the title we may expect a programmatic piece which tries to describe in a musical way the action of the polarization. However, the function of the title is only to bring a key concept meant to explain the musical phaenomenon present in the work. This phaenomenon of the three parts structure -- which can be interpreted as three separate processes, but also as one single process with ongoing causality -- demonstrates various interactions between the musical materials. The first part illustrates a two notes based unit (a trill) -- which will be the central axis in this part -- from which two different contrasting materials evolve in a continuous confrontation. The second one will give rise to the main material of the second part. This material will appear in different aspects in a conflict between the two extreme poles of the registry. The third part realizes a synthesis of the materials used so far. From a different perspective, the piece is a compositional study which attempts to answer some questions such as: what can the material of a musical process be?; how can these materials be developed?; how can such a musical discourse be created given the fact that it is involved in an ongoing process of transformation but it remains organic and coherent? or what kind of contrasts can be used and by what procedures? The musical discourse is based on a free atonal language with various types of symmetry in vertical and horizontal structures. The piece was awarded the first prize at the "Liviu Comes" National Composition Competition, Cluj-Napoca, 2011 edition. Its world premiere2 was on April 17th, 2011, performed by Dóra Munkácsi at the "Gheorghe Dima" National Music Academy, Cluj-Napoca. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Results of ecological studies that involve the use of multivariate analysis of variance techniques for testing various hypotheses, interesting from the point of view of comparing the linear functions of parameters, were considered. For testing the most interesting hypotheses on a variety of interaction effects and on contrasts of class means, the application of a multivariate test statistic is recommended. Canonical variate analysis is used for graphical presentation of the results of multidimensional experiments. In this paper it is shown how a generalized form of canonical variate analysis can be useful to reveal which parametric functions of a multivariate analysis of variance model are responsible for rejecting the linear hypothesis. As an example, an analysis was made of an ecological study of trace element accumulation in plants of Italian ryegrass as a method of biomonitoring of air pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Associations between root distribution and bean growth habit may contribute to the selection of genotypes adapted to restrictive environments. The present work aimed to relate and compare root distribution with the growth habit in beans. 10 bean genotypes of different growth habits (I, II and III) were evaluated for root distribution in two agricultural years (2014/15 and 2015/16). The genotypes responded similarly for the trait root distribution throughout the agricultural years, without any simple effect of the genotype x year interaction. The factors genotype and years were significant for the trait. The genotypes of a determinate habit showed significant differences compared to other genotypes (II and III), which were ascribed to their poor performance in the average of years. They include the Carioca Precoce, which showed a behavior similar to the other habits. It could be considered a “plastic” genotype under restrictive conditions. The contrasts revealed significant differences between the growth habits II vs I (2.87) and III vs I (3.64) for root distribution. The differences were also significant for grain yield. Thus, genotypes of indeterminate growth habit show greater root distribution than those of a determinate habit, regardless of the agricultural years. Therefore, they are promising for use in blocks of crosses, when the purpose is the selection of cultivars adapted to low input environments.

Short Story ,Contrasts ,Female Protagonist ,Hybris - Abstract
The article is based on the notion of contrast and its role in creating a detailed and nuanced narration with psychologically complex heroes. Contrasts in question include those between poverty and richness, dreams and reality and being and pretending to be. The reflexion is enriched with a theatrical twist by questions concerning the role (or even hypothetical presence) of hybris in the process of creating an intricate composition and the possibility of a tragedy-like reading and interpretation of the short story.

The aim of this article is to take a closer look at the nature of popular fiction and its inherent usage of contrasting elements. We would like to examine two Alexander Dumas’ novels, The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte-Cristo in order to try to explain the aforementioned tendency as well as give examples illustrating it. In the first part of the text, we concentrate on premises of the genre in general. Having established those principles, we go on to analyse The Three Musketeers in the context of its contrasting features. We can divide this novel into three basic sets of oppositions: that between the cardinal and the queen, that between titular characters, accompanied by d’Artagnan, and finally that between main female characters, Constance and Milady. After the analysis of the first of the novels, we then proceed to study The Count of Monte-Cristo. We draw attention to its most distinctive contrasts which include, amongst others, the opposition between the protagonist’s two incarnations: Edmond Dantès and the count of Monte-Cristo. All in all, both novels represent well the tendency to use contrasts as a means of characterization. The popular fiction’ structure which presupposes that the good must be victorious and the bad punished fits well with the utilisation of oppositions.

The objective was to determine the predominant genetic inheritance in the trait root distribution in common bean and define the selection strategy. An experiment involving 40 genetic constitutions (segregating and fixed populations), was developed during the agricultural years 2014/15 and 2015/16. The experiment was arranged in a Federer's augmented block design with 3 replicates. The root distribution was evaluated by Bohm method. Estimates of mean contrasts between the F4 progenies and their parents did not reveal any significant differences in any comparison. The generations F5 and F6 presented the same behavior. The distribution of the component of the additive genetic variance was similarly conducted for the segregating generations. Thus, since the predominant inheritance of the root distribution is additive, the selection of this trait is recommended to be performed at the end of the breeding program. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Temporal check-all-that-apply (TCATA) extends classical check-all-that-apply (CATA) by adding a temporal dimension to the evaluation. From a data analysis point of view, TCATA data are similar to Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) data but differ in that more than one attribute can be selected at any time point. Procedures for analyzing TCATA data can hence be generalized from methods for CATA as well as for TDS. TCATA data can be organized in a matrix format with 0s and 1s similar to what has been described before for TDS, but with the relaxation that the column sums can exceed 1. Consequently, the same randomization tests as suggested for TDS are suitable for TCATA data. For TDS data, ad-hoc chance and significance limits are frequently used, a practice that we review critically. We also show that these do not generalize easily to TCATA data. Instead, we suggest comparing individual products to aggregate data across all other products in the test, with that aggregation being assumed to provide an estimate of what is to be expected in the respective product category. This approach does not rely on the number of attributes considered and is also recommended for TDS data. We further suggest a new way to visualize the respective results. The results are compared to the naïve approach of applying standard CATA analyses to the data by time point. Results are reasonably close to warrant very similar interpretation, such that applying CATA analyses by time point to TCATA data seems a potential ad-hoc alternative in practice for preliminary data evaluation. Additionally, panel agreement for TCATA data is obtained over time using Gwet’s AC1 coefficient and its 95% confidence bands, along with raw agreement and mean citation rate. Results provide insight into the level of panel agreement across the various time segments. We exemplify the suggested methods by means of data from a study on Syrah wine finish. The aim of this paper is to determine whether and to what extent Woodward’s interventionist theory of causation is
variable relative . In an influential review, Strevens has accused Woodward’s account of a damaging form of variable relativity, according to which obviously false causal claims can be made true by choosing a depleted variable set. Following McCain, I show that Strevens’ objection doesn’t succeed. However, Woodward also wants to avoid another kind of variable relativity, according to which it can be true thatX is a cause ofY in one set of background conditions, but false in another. I show that Woodward’s account is problematically overpermissive, unless there are restrictions on the values that certain variables can take. I formulate a modified account that makes these restrictions explicit, then use it to argue that Woodward’s attempt to avoid relativity to background conditions is misguided. On the best interpretation of the interventionist theory, causal claims are assessed relative to a particular kind of variable set. Thus, I conclude that the theory should be understood as variable relative, in a specific, unproblematic sense. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
Data användes sedan för att påvisa hur mycket luminansnivåer interiört i bilar kan differera innan skillnad upplevs., Interior design in cars today is a factor that consumers value highly. To stand out in the market, it is required that all parts are experienced as high quality. This entails that there are increasing demands on interior components in the car. The study is in collaboration with Volvo Car Group and specifically their Perceived Quality department as it is this department that focuses on perceived quality and works to ensure that Volvo Car Group´s cars are perceived as high quality. An important part of the interior design is lumination. This study aims to answer how large differences there can be at luminance levels before the human eye notices a difference. The methods used are observations and experiments. Observers were shown four different luminated points where their task was to explain when they experienced difference and how they experienced the differences. Measurement data were collected with a luminance camera which was then analyzed. Data collected were reported and analyzed. Data were then used to show how much luminance levels interior in cars can differ before a difference is experienced.

In this paper we contrast different aspects of non-profit organizations’ performance from the perspective of their funding sources. Based on previous empirical results indicating that sources of funding influence fundraising performance, we extend the existing research to the analysis of overall non-profit organizational performance. We use the social constructivist approach to non-profit performance to discuss contrasts between privately and publicly funded humanitarian organizations in Croatia. Some differences in growth- and development-oriented measures of nonprofit performance for these groups are identified and discussed in the context of future regional research.
