In this paper, the inhibitory effect of various nanomaterials on the growth of Aspergillus niger was studied. Among them, copper nanorods had the most obvious inhibitory effect on the growth of Aspergillus niger. The phase of copper nanorods was modified by chitosan, and its inhibitory effect on the expansion of Aspergillus niger was measured. 1. Preparation of copper nanorods and chitosan@copper nanorods: Copper nanorods with a diameter of about 300–350 nm and a length of about 100–800 nm were prepared by the liquid-phase reduction method. The chitosan solution was prepared by using the characteristics of chitosan dissolved in dilute acid to prepare chitosan@copper nanorods and modify the phase of copper nanorods. 2. Determination of the inhibitory effect of various copper nanomaterials on the growth of Aspergillus niger, including Cuprous Oxide nanoparticles, copper nanorods, nano copper oxide, and copper hydroxide, which have certain inhibitory effects on the growth of Aspergillus niger. The overuse of copper-based fertilizers and pesticides over the last few decades has resulted in detrimental risks to our environment. Nano-enabled agrichemicals with a high effective utilization ratio have shown great potential for maintaining or minimizing environmental issues in agriculture. Copper-based nanomaterials (Cu-based NMs) serve as a promising alternative to fungicides. Three types of Cu-based NMs with different morphologies were analyzed for their different antifungal effects on Alternaria alternata in this current study. Compared to commercial copper hydroxide water power (Cu(OH)2 WP), all tested Cu-based NMs, including cuprous oxide nanoparticles (Cu2O NPs), copper nanorods (Cu NRs) and copper nanowires (Cu NWs), especially Cu2O NPs and Cu NWs, showed higher antifungal activity against Alternaria alternata. Its EC50 were 104.24 and 89.40 mg L−1, respectively, achieving comparable activity using a dose approximately 1.6 and 1.9-fold lower. Cu-based NMs could introduce the downregulation of melanin production and soluble protein content. In contrast to trends in antifungal activity, Cu2O NPs showed the strongest power in regulating melanin production and protein content and similarly exhibited the highest acute toxicity to adult zebrafish compared to other Cu-based NMs. These results demonstrate that Cu-based NMs could offer great potential in plant disease management strategies. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation system has attracted intensive attention owing to its great potential in harnessing renewable solar energy to purify water. To further enhance the solar-driven interfacial evaporation system performance, solar absorber structure with high light-thermal energy conversion efficiency is especially critical. In this work, polyvinyl pyrrolidone/poly(vinylidene fluoride co hexa fluoropropylene)/CuO-nanorods (PVP/PVDF-HFP/CuO-nanorods) membrane was prepared sequentially by electrospinning, heating and hydrothermal processes. The flexible electrospun membrane was used as the photothermal layer in the solar-driven interfacial evaporation system. The evenly distributed CuO nanorods function as solar energy absorbers. The polystyrene foam was used as an insulating layer, and filter paper was inserted in the middle of the polystyrene foam to transport water to the photothermal layer. The designed evaporator was used for the solar evaporation using pure water. As a result, the evaporation rate was 1.11 kg/m2h and the light-thermal energy conversion rate was 75.36%. Herein, we show that copper nanostructures, if made anisotropic, can exhibit strong surface plasmon resonance comparable to that of gold and silver counterparts in the near‐infrared spectrum. Further, we demonstrate that a robust confined seeded growth strategy allows the production of high‐quality samples with excellent control over their size, morphology, and plasmon resonance frequency. As an example, copper nanorods (CuNRs) are successfully grown in a limited space of preformed rod‐shaped polymer nanocapsules, thereby avoiding the complex nucleation kinetics involved in the conventional synthesis. The method is unique in that it enables the flexible control and fine‐tuning of the aspect ratio and the plasmonic resonance. We also show the high efficiency and stability of the as‐synthesized CuNRs in photothermal conversion and demonstrate their incorporation into nanocomposite polymer films that can be used as active components for constructing light‐responsive actuators and microrobots. The structural and surface properties of manganese and copper–manganese oxides were investigated. The oxides were prepared by the redox-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy studies evidenced transformation of cryptomelane-type nanoparticles with 1-D channel structure into the large MnO crystallites with regular rippled-like surface patterns under reduction conditions. The development of Cu/CuO nanorods from strongly dispersed species was evidenced. Coper-modified manganese oxides showed good catalytic performance in methanol steam reforming reaction for hydrogen production. Low selectivity to CO was observed in the wide range of temperatures. The lead-free nanocomposite generator device for high-output energy harvesting using piezoelectric alkaline niobate-based particles (KNLN) and copper (Cu) nanorods filler is reported. To produce the piezoelectric nanocomposite (p-NC), lead-free KNLN particles synthesized using a solid-state method and the Cu nanorods are distributed in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. The lead-free flexible nanocomposite generator (NCG) made by a simple spin-casting method successfully converts mechanical energy to electricity up to 12 V and 1.2 μA. These are higher than previously reported outputs from other lead-free and composite-based nanogenerators. The harvested energy is utilized to directly turn on white light emitting diodes (LEDs) without external circuits and to operate a complex circuital liquid crystal display (LCD). A large-area NCG device (30 cm × 30 cm) is also fabricated using the bar-coating method to obtain maximum output up to 140 V and 8 μA (≈0.5 mW). This NCG technology has substantial advantages as a simple, cost-effective, scalable, and high-throughput approach for practical flexible electronics, bio-eco-compatible self-powered systems, and body sensor networks (BSN). Cotton pulp black liquor (CPBL) is a highly concentrated organic wastewater with complex composition, and its direct discharge is extremely harmful to the environment. As an important industrial raw material, hydrogen (H 2) has a wide range of applications in many fields such as energy and chemicals. In the study, the composite catalyst N-CDs/Cu NRs was prepared in two steps: firstly, coal-based nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) were prepared by the ammonia hydrothermal cutting method using Xinjiang Wucaiwan coal as the carbon source; secondly, N-CDs were loaded onto the surface of copper nanorods (Cu NRs; prepared by a liquid-phase reduction) by a hydrothermal method. While characterizing the structure of the material, the performance of photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) degradation of CPBL and H 2 production using N-CDs/Cu NRs was investigated: this PEC double reaction takes place in an H-type photoreactor, where the anode degrades CPBL and the cathode produces H 2. The chemical oxygen demand removal rate (RT CODCr) of CPBL reached 94.33% and the yield of H 2 reached 272.0 mmol in 60 min of reaction. Abstract: This study elucidates the process of synthesis of copper (Cu) nanorods using almond skin extract as stabilizing cum capping agent. These nanorods were (about 200nm long and 40nm wide) characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further, cytotoxicity potential of these nanorods was evaluated in A549 cells (Human lung carcinoma cell line) via cell viability assay and extracellular lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release. Also, reduced glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxidation (LPO), cellular oxidative stress (Rhodamine 123 florescence) and apoptosis (Annexin V FITC/Propidium iodide staining) were also investigated in control and treated cells. Results indicated that Cu nanorods induced apoptotic death of cancer cells by induction of oxidative stress, depletion of cellular antioxidants and mitochondrial dysfunction. This study reports a novel process of synthesis of almond skin extract capped Cu nanorods and its potential as an anticancer agent against A549 lung carcinoma cells. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Copper nanorods have been synthesized in mesoporous SBA-15 by a low-temperature metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) employing copper (II) acetylacetonate, Cu(acac)2, and hydrogen as a precursor and reactant gas, respectively. The hydrogen plays an important role in chemical reduction of oganometallic precursor which enhances mass transfer in the interior of the SBA-15 porous substrate. Such copper nanostructures are of great potentials in the semiconductor due to their unusual optical, magnetic and electronic properties. In addition, it has been found that chemically modifying the substrate surface by carbon deposition is crucial to such synthesis of copper nanostructures in the interior of the SBA-15, which is able to change the surface properties of SBA-15 from hydrophilic to hydrophobic to promote the adsorption of organic cupric precursor. It has also been found that the copper nanoparticles deposited on the external surface are almost eliminated and the copper nanorods are more distinct while the product was treated with ammonia. This approach could be achieved under a mild condition: a low temperature (400°C) and vacuum (2 kPa) which is extremely milder than the conventional method. It actually sounds as a foundation which is the first time to synthesize a copper nanorod at a mild condition of a low reaction temperature and pressure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
