Objective: To analyze the prevalence of anti-HCV positivity and associated factors in inmates of prison units in the State of Piauí, Brazil. Methods: Epidemiological, cross-sectional study carried out with 2,131 inmates in twelve prison units in Piauí. Hypothesis tests were applied in inferential statistics, using logistic regression. The significance level used was 5%. Results: The prevalence of anti-HCV positivity was 0.3% (95%CI = 0.1-0.6). In the bivariate analysis, an association was observed between hepatitis C and the variables: skin color, age, years of education, use of illicit drugs, blood transfusor before 1993, use of glass syringe, same-sex sexual intercourse, selection of the trusted partner, use of alcoholic beverages before intercourse, vaginal sex and information on the forms of transmission of hepatitis C. In the multivariate model, only the variable blood transfusion before 1993 remained associated. Conclusion: The inmates showed risk behaviors related to hepatitis C infection, however the study identified a lower prevalence than the estimate found in the general and world population. It is relevant to invest in health education actions in the prison environment and to strengthen health surveillance actions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Publisher Copyright: © The Author(s) 2022. This study aimed at analyzing the psychosocial repercussions of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic on the health of men living in Brazil. For this, we carried out a socio-historical and qualitative study, with the participation of 200 men who answered an online questionnaire. The data collected were processed in the NVIVO12® software, structured by the Collective Subject Discourse method, and analyzed from the epidemic disease theoretical framework proposed by Charles Rosenberg. Our results showed that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic brought about repercussions of different dimensions that compromised the health of men living in Brazil. The repercussions evidenced were behavioral changes and emergence of new habits due to the pandemic; uncomfortable family situations; impaired affective and sexual relationships; harms in marital relationships; and insecurity and psychological distress. It is important to implement strategies that maximize men’s health literacy, promoting better communication in terms of health, and search for help and suitable information about health/mental health. publishersversion published

- Abstract
In vitro germplasm conservation allows to extend the interval between subcultures without compromising the viability and genetic integrity of the plant, ensuring a backup of genotypes with high phytosanitary quality. Thus, this study aimed to verify the effect of four concentrations of Paclobutrazol® in inducing minimum growth in five Manihot esculenta accessions from the in vitro Active Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Cassava and Fruits. An experiment was installed using the Murashige and Skoog medium without addition and added with four concentrations of Paclobutrazol® (0.10, 0.20, 0.30, and 0.40 mg L
-1 ), in five in vitro accessions of M. esculenta: BRS Jari (BGM 2041), Cigana (BGM 0264), BRS Poti Branca (BGM 2017), TME 14, and BRS Novo Horizonte. The statistical design was completely randomized in a 5 x 5 factorial scheme, with 15 repetitions. After 120 days of cultivation, the following variables were evaluated: plant height (cm), number of green leaves, number of senescent leaves, number of mini-cuttings, number of shoots, and fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots (mg). Paclobutrazol® caused a reduction in plant height and gain in root mass for all accessions, in addition to preserving the number of green leaves and decreasing leaf senescence for most genotypes. There was a strong dependence of the genotype in relation to the concentration of Paclobutrazol®. The concentration of 0.20 mg L-1 showed potential in the in vitro conservation of M. esculenta genotypes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

GERMPLASM , *GERMPLASM conservation , *LEMON , *WOODY plants , *FACTORIAL experiment designs , *PLANT drying - Abstract
The establishment of minimum growth conditions is essential for in vitro germplasm conservation. Changes to the basic medium and carbon source concentrations are important factors for reducing plant growth in vitro. This study adjusted a protocol for the in vitro conservation of 'Florida Rough' lemon plants. Microcuttings (approximately 1 cm) from plants that were previously cultivated in vitro were inoculated into test tubes with 10 mL of woody plant medium (WPM) at different concentrations (1/1, 1/2 and 1/4) and supplemented with 0, 12.5, 25 and 50 g.L-1 of sucrose, solidified with 7 g.L-1 agar and adjusted to pH 5.8. The experiment was completely randomized in a 3 x 4 factorial design with 15 replications and was maintained under controlled conditions for 360 days. After this period the plant height in cm (PH), the plant dry mass in g (PDM) and the 21 numbers of green leaves (NGL), senescent leaves (NSL) and microcuttings (NM) were evaluated. The variables that best explained the observed behavior of the 'Florida Rough' lemon plants were NGL and PH, with values of 61.63 and 35.08%, respectively. The original concentration of the WPM with the addition of 25 g. L-1 of sucrose yielded the best 'Florida Rough' lemon plant growth reduction in vitro while maintaining the physiologically health of the plants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In vitro oxidation is a problem for some herbaceous and woody species and can cause darkening of tissues and consequently death of explants and plants Therefore, this study aimed to assess the effect of activated charcoal on in vitro yam cultivation, aiming at reducing or eliminating explant oxidation and optimizing the growth of the genotypes Dioscorea alata var. purpurea (Roxb.) A. Pouchet and Dioscorea rotundata Poir. Nodal segments of approximately 1 cm, extracted from plants previously grown in vitro, were introduced into test tubes containing 10 mL of 2GGC culture medium, plus 30 g L-1 sucrose, solidified with 2.2 g L-1 Phytagel® and pH adjusted to 5.8 before autoclaving, containing activated charcoal doses of 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 g L-1. Plants were maintained for 90 days in a growth room, with temperature of 27 ± 1°C, photon flux density of 30 µmol m-2 s-1 and photoperiod of 16 hours, after which their development variables were evaluated. Activated charcoal, at the concentration of 4 g L-1 considerably promoted the best development of plants, and the species D. alata var. purpurea showed higher means for all variables studied. - Abstract
Abscisic acid (ABA) is associated with bud dormancy, leaf abscission, and germplasm growth inhibition in in vitro conservation. We evaluated the effects of ABA in four wild Manihot accessions and one cassava accession (M. esculenta Crantz) to refine in vitro conservation methods for these species. The experiment was performed at the Laboratory for Tissue Culture from Embrapa, Cruz das Almas, Bahia State, Brazil. The statistical design was completely random in a 5 × 5 factorial scheme [(5 ABA dosages (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 mg L-1) and 5 Manihot species (M. pseudoglaziovii, M. tristis, M. flabellifolia, M. chlorosticta, and M. esculenta)], with 15 replicates. Mini-cuttings of 1 cm were used, each inoculated in 10 mL of modified Murashige and Skoog medium, solidified with Phytagel® (2.4 g L-1) containing the respective ABA dosages. Tubes containing these mini-cuttings were placed in a germplasm conservation room with an irradiance of 30 µmol m-2 s-1, temperature of 22 ± 1°C, and photoperiod of 12 hours. Plant height (cm), the number of living and senescent leaves, shoots, and mini-cuttings (1 cm), and fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots (mg) were evaluated after 150 days. Growth reduction was prominent in M. pseudoglaziovii, M. tristis, and M. flabellifolia during the in vitro conservation period. In the present study, the addition of ABA did not promote the expected reduction in plant growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The water crisis in Piaui is one of the factors that most punish the region, affecting several spheres, such as social and economic. Most of the state reservoirs are shallow and in summer times they become water critical, exposing the inhabitants to critical subsistence situations. Hydrogeological studies, however, reveal that Piauí is located on the basin of the largest underground water power in the northeast. This paper aims to analyze the relations that are established in society about the issues of environmental properties related to water resources and their preservation to understand the phenomenon of regional water crisis, for such. The study revealed that climate factors have less influence than political and socio-environmental factors, the population is in need of information regardless of their social status and access to education, while the government in its various spheres is little or not mobilized. Thus, it is expected that with the present work, the scientific, social and political community will awaken to articulate and introduce new habits and practices of resource consumption and their preservation, providing access to the basics of a decent life. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the growing environment on the in vitro conservation of citrus genotypes obtained from the Active Citrus Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Cassava and Fruit. The study used multivariate statistic tools in order to improve the efficiency in the analysis of the results. Approximately 1-cm of length microcuttings from plantlets derived from ten genotypes previously cultured in vitro were inoculated in test tubes containing 20 mL of WPM culture medium supplemented with 25 g L-1 sucrose, solidified with 7 g L-1 agar and adjusted to a pH of 5.8, and maintained under three environmental conditions for 180 days. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a split-plot in the space, with 15 replications. The results indicate that the principal component analysis is an effective tool in studying the behavior of different genotypes conserved under different in vitro growing conditions. The growing conditions of 22?1?C, a light intensity of 10 ?mol m-2.s-1 and a 12 hours photoperiod was the most adequate for reducing the growth of in vitro conserved plants, increasing the subculture time interval while keeping the plants healthy.
