Cardiac tumors are rare and myxomas are the most prevalent among them. Although it presents benign histology, they may be the cause of severe consequences due to intracardiac location. Nonspecific manifestations may hinder the diagnosis, which can lead to complications, such as changes in cardiac dynamics, thromboembolic events and death. This paper presents a case report of a patient in the emergency department of a high complexity hospital in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, with a clinical history of angina and 7 previous Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), besides aphasia, right hemiparesis, dysarthria, and mouth deviation. Submitted to transesophageal echocardiography, she was diagnosed with left atrial myxoma. For the treatment of myxoma, a surgical approach was used to resect the myxoma in the left atrium. The standard surgical approach was through a median sternotomy. Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with aortic and bicaval cannulation and moderate hypothermia was used. Myocardial protection was achieved by cold antegrade blood cardioplegia. The patient had notable characteristics for the diagnosis, especially the previous occurrence of seven episodes of TIA. The importance of correct clinical investigation (anamnesis, general and specific physical examination and imaging tests) is notable and a fundamental tool for the diagnosis and early treatment of neoplasia, providing good clinical outcomes.

SLEEP quality ,BODY composition ,NURSING ,SLEEP disorders ,BODY mass index - Abstract
Recent studies have shown that nursing professionals have affected sleep quality, yet no relation between sleep quality and body composition has been established. The present study investigated the relation between body composition and sleep quality in nursing professionals. It was a transversal, quantitative, descriptive, and analytical study. Nursing workers from HC-UFU were randomly selected to participate in this study. Interviews were done with validated questionnaire to evaluate sleep quality of the professionals, and a bioimpedance exam was done with a tetrapolar device. Two hundred forty-three professionals of the nursing team participated in the survey, mostly females (n=205; 84.4%), nursing technicians (53.1%). Average abdominal circumference was 91.97±13.83 cm, body fat was 31.66-8.24% or 24.07-11.50 kg. The body mass index (BMI) was 27.09-4.63. Most participants evaluated sleep quality as bad (n=99; 40.7%) and "Sleep Latency" between 31 and 60 minutes (n=74; 30.5%) in the dominion "Subjective Sleep Quality". Correlations were observed between: percentage of body water X Sleep Duration Dominion (r=-0.135; p<0.05); water resistance in the body X Dominion Sleep Efficacy (r=0.149; p<0.05); percentage of body fat X "Disfunction During the Day" (r=0.233; p<0.01); fat mass (kg) and fat percentages X "Sleep disturbance"(r=0.148; r=0.177; r=0.182; p<0.01) respectively; BMI X "Sleep Disturbance", (r=0.146; p<0.05) as well as percentage of lean mass and body water X "Sleep Disturbance" (r=-0.244; r=0.247; p<0.01). This is the first study comparing sleep quality with body composition data in a nursing team. It became clear that more studies should be done to obtain greater knowledge about the health profile of nursing teams and, therefore, establish better plans and solutions for the group studied. Introduction: Despite the technological innovations in cardiology, heart failure (HF) is still synonymous with high morbidity and mortality. Few studies address the clinical and socioeconomic characteristics as outcome and tool for management of this disease, nor of all etiologies together. Objective: To describe clinical and socioeconomic variables of patients with heart failure of different etiologies and functional classes. Methods: Cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study, approved by the local ethics committee. Initially, the authors performed the validation of face and content of the clinical and socioeconomic questionnaire. Subsequently, a sample of 91 individuals who were undergoing treatment in a public hospital, the questionnaire through the interview technique, individually, in offices provided by the service. A review of the records occurred after the interview, to increase the reliability of responses. Results: Males (50.5%) predominated in the sample, with the majority being married (52.7%), retired (83.51%), with schooling between 0-4 years and having higher income than four minimum wages (57.1%). The functional class I (35.2%) of ischemic etiology (46.2%) prevailed in the sample, as well as systemic hypertension (88.5%) as primary associated comorbidity, and angioplasty (30.8%) as most prevalent surgical procedure. The pharmacological profile demonstrated that antithrombotics (60.4%), beta blockers (58.2%), angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (56%) and statin (47.3%) were prescribed for most of the individuals. Conclusions: Socioeconomic and clinical profile should be tools for health management of patients with heart failure, regardless of etiology or functional class, although these variables have peculiarities.

Introduction: Intensive Care Units (ICU) are places for the recovery of critically ill patients. However, high rates of infection are still prevalent in this area. Objective: To find in the literature studies characterizing the profile of health care associated infections (HAIs) in adult ICUs of university hospitals. Methodology: integrative literature review using the descriptors “university hospital/hospitais universitários”, “critical care unit/unidade de terapia intensiva”, and “nosocomial infections/infecção hospitalar” linked by the Boolean operator “AND” in the PUBMED database (US National Library of Medicine), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature) in the Virtual Health Library Research Portal, and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Articles published between 2010 and 2015, available in full, in Portuguese, Spanish, and English were considered. Results: We found 397 articles, but after filters only four articles were included in this integrative review, 2 from the PUBMED database, 1 in LILACS, and 1 in SCIELO, performed in Cuba, Brazil, Colombia, and China. Most (n=3) of these were published in 2011. The proposed methodologies were prospective studies, quantitative, descriptive, and observational. Most studies (75%) were conducted by doctors, one of them a specialist epidemiologist. Conclusions: The main HAIs found in ICUs were ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP), followed by Bloodstream infection (BSI), and urinary tract infection (UTI). Knowing this profile can colaborate with staff and supervisory bodies training, reducing morbidity and mortality.

- Abstract
Screening is used by the emergency services to identify the most urgent or potentially more serious cases, ensuring that they receive preferential treatment relative to less urgent cases. This study describes the experience of a nursing academic during a voluntary placement at a public hospital in Minas Gerais. After prior contact with the nurse in charge, permission was obtained to undertake a supervised internship lasting 45 days in the risk assessment section. During this period, the academic conducted an updated bibliographic review on this topic and on the perception of the duties of the nursing professional. During the placement, it was recognized that there was a clear need for the nurse to possess scientific and technical expertise in order to obtain a correct classification, using both the Canadian and Manchester protocols. The astuteness of the professional in producing a case history concerning the pathology is crucial for the correct processing of the patient, based on identifying the complexity of the problem and prioritization of attendance. The results of the work showed that the extension activity provided a valuable educational experience. The importance of risk classification was demonstrated, together with the dynamics of the operational circumstances, the facilitating factors, and the challenges that remained to be overcome. This confirmed the importance and benefits of the nursing academic acquiring new knowledge and experiences, complementing his range of teaching and learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The importance of correct clinical investigation (anamnesis, general and specific physical examination and imaging tests) is notable and a fundamental tool for the diagnosis and early treatment of neoplasia, providing good clinical outcomes., Competing Interests: None., (AJCD Copyright © 2021.)

- Abstract
Background: Infections are surgical severe adverse events that pose risks to patient safety in health services, in addition to increasing costs and morbidity and mortality., Aim: This study aims to describe the infectious profile of patients undergoing cardiac surgery and associate comorbidities and lifestyle habits with surgical wound infection., Design: Observational and retrospective study., Methods: The study included 453 patients undergoing cardiac surgery in a public teaching hospital from January 2014 to January 2019. Data were collected from the clinical records through an instrument composed of variables clinical characteristics, comorbidities, life habits, infection rates, infectious agents, clinical management and surgical wound features. Simple frequency, measures of central tendency and variability, Chi-Square test and logistic regression were used for data analysis., Results: There was a predominance of hypertensive patients (367; 81%), smokers (107; 23.6%), alcoholics (76; 16.8%). Surgical wound infection affected 86 (19%) patients. Besides, most patients were under antibiotic therapy (310; 68.4%). Klebsiella pneumoniae; Staphylococcus epidermides and Staphylococcus aureus were the most frequent pathogens. Diabetes Mellitus, nephropathy and age were statistically significant (P<0.05) for higher risk of surgical wound infection., Conclusion: Chronic diseases and lifestyle habits were related to postoperative infection. More research is needed, focusing on risk factors for the development of surgical wound infection., Competing Interests: None., (AJCD Copyright © 2021.)
