The Southern North Sea Basin area, stretching from the UK to the Netherlands, has a rich hydrocarbon exploration and production history. The past, present and expected future hydrocarbon and geothermal exploration trends in this area are discussed for eight key lithostratigraphic intervals, ranging from the Lower Carboniferous to Cenozoic. In the period between 2007 and 2017, a total of 95 new hydrocarbon fields were discovered, particularly in Upper Carboniferous, Rotliegend and Triassic reservoirs. Nineteen geothermal systems were discovered in the Netherlands onshore, mainly targeting aquifers in the Rotliegend and Upper Jurassic/Lower Cretaceous formations. Although the Southern North Sea Basin area is mature in terms of hydrocarbon exploration, it is shown that with existing and new geological insights, additional energy resources are still being proven in new plays such as the basal Upper Rotliegend (Ruby discovery) for natural gas and a new Chalk play for oil. It is predicted that hydrocarbon exploration in the Southern North Sea Basin area will probably experience a slight growth in the coming decade before slowing down, as the energy transition further matures. Geothermal exploration is expected to continue growing in the Netherlands onshore as well as gain more momentum in the UK.

Werkstuk over de Zeeuwse maritieme onafhankelijkheidsstrijd in de begin periode van de Republiek. Het werkstuk geeft een historisch context van het particularisme in het zeewezen en beschrijft in detail de climax van de Hollandse-Zeeuwse strijd tussen 1588 en 1597. De negatieve connotatie die aan het Zeeuwse particularisme is gehangen wordt hierbij in twijfel getrokken.

The aim of this project is to gain better constraints on the relative timing of uplift of the British Isles and Pyrenean shortening phase and to better understand the role of each in the Late Paleogene deformation on the Cleaver Bank High (CBH) and the southern North Sea in general. An exhaustive characterization of the stratigraphy and morphology of Late Paleogene deposits on the Cleaver Bank High area was carried out to make a differentiation between pre-, syn- and post-tectonic sedimentation. The analysis of seismic reflections geometry and seismic facies of regional 2D seismic lines of public access, along with well data, has allowed to identify and map a surface defining the onset of folding and estimate an age to it of Mid-Eocene, hence finding the probable time of salt tectonics initiation. Observations and evidence for gravity gliding as the driving force were used to conclude on the reigning type of deformation. The onset of folding was later used to guide a horizon flattening analysis to inquire for the first time in the southern North Sea into the plausible relationship of the southern British Isles uplift -and consequent basement tilt change- with the observed gravity gliding in the CBH area. The results showed a correspondence between the amount of exhumation of the southern British Isles with the stretching of Neogene deposits to the southwest and the basement dip change in some of the analyzed seismic lines. Given the close genetic relationship between the exhumation episodes and the tectonic phases from the Alpine collision, it is inferred that by the time the ‘onset of folding’ succession started to deposit the Laramide tectonic phase would have already acted and provided part of the total uplift, while the Pyrenean phase would have had a greater impact in providing the remaining amount of uplift necessary to finally reverse the basement dip from southwest to northeast and allow for imminent gravity gliding -and consequent folding- since Mid-Late Pa

Veel leiders van de Cercle Social zijn toen toegetreden tot de Jakobijnenclub in Parijs en afgevaardigden geworden in de Legislative. Het enige dat van de Cercle Social bleef bestaan was een drukkerij, die voor eigen doeleinden werd ingezet. In de Legislative en in de Jakobijnenclub is toenadering ontstaan tussen voormalige leden van de Cercle Social en een groep politici uit de Gironde. Het is niet duidelijk waarom dit precies is gebeurd. Deze associatie bleef bestaan tot de val van de Girondijnen op 2 juni 1973. Deze toenadering tussen de leden van de Cercle Social en de groep politici uit de Gironde is het onderwerp van dit onderzoek. Het bleek een duurzaam verbond, waardoor deze hele groep in de Conventie en in de geschiedschrijving te boek kwam te staan als de Girondijnen.

This bachelor thesis deals with the late 18th century writings by Helen Maria Williams on the French Revolution. Having experienced its many episodes firsthand, Williams gained both fame and notoriety in Great Britain because of her support for the revolution. Her first work, Letters Written in France (1790), described the revolution in sympathetic, even euforic, terms and was received well. However, with the dramatic increase of violence, the revolution lost supporters abroad, especially in Williams' native country. Although she emphatically opposed the Jacobin regime, Williams came under intense scrutiny, resulting to her becoming an intellectual exile. In this thesis the focus lies on her first work on the early revolution and later works on the Jacobin Terror, as well as on her reception in Great Britain.

In deze scriptie zal ik onderzoeken of de stedelijke revoluties in 1793 te karakteriseren zijn als één federalistische opstand. Ik zal dit doen door te onderzoeken of er een patroon gevonden kan worden in verschillende stedelijke opstanden of dat er sprake is geweest van meerdere opstanden die vanuit uiteenlopende motieven zijn ontstaan en zodoende niet een algemene beweging hebben gevormd. Van groot belang voor dit onderzoek zal de definitie van federalisme zijn. Om een volledig beeld van de Franse Revolutie te krijgen, is het noodzakelijk om ook het verzet binnen de revolutie te bestuderen. Met het onderzoek naar de stedelijke opstanden is het mogelijk om de revolutie sinds het afschaffen van de monarchie op 10 augustus 1792 beter te begrijpen. In de ontstane politieke crisis hadden de geradicaliseerde Montagnards een grote impact op de staat. De stedelijke elite kwam hiertegen in opstand aangezien de nationale politiek een enorme invloed uitoefende op de lokale besturen. De stedelijke opstanden waren een uniek conflict tussen lokale en de nationale politiek.

Onderzoek naar de militaire problemen tijdens het Directoire. De belangrijkste problemen worden geanalyseerd, deze hadden voornamelijk betrekking op het rekruteren van soldaten. Tijdens de oorlog werden het aantal Franse soldaten steeds minder. In dit onderzoek worden verschillende oorzaken voor deze daling gepresenteerd.
