To describe the risk factors for the development of mental disorders in low-income postpartum women. This is descriptive research with a quantitative approach carried out after approval by the ethics committee. The target population of this study were women who were experiencing the puerperium. The collection took place through a contact to sign the Free Informed Consent Term, explain the purpose of the study and provide clarifications about the research. The participants of this study are women in a vulnerable situation, aged between 18 and 39 years old, who declare themselves to be black/brown, as well as have a low level of education, have low income, depending mostly on financial aid from the government. Therefore, it was possible to describe the risk factors in the puerperium that can make women susceptible to the development of mental disorders, which interfere in the quality of life of the puerperal woman, her baby and family members.
