Search

The Electron-Ion Collider, a next generation electron-hadron and electron-nuclei scattering facility, will be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The wealth of new data will shape research in hadron physics, from nonperturbative QCD techniques to perturbative QCD improvements and global QCD analyses, for the decades to come. With the present proposal, Latin America based physicists, whose expertise lies on the theory and phenomenology side, make the case for the past and future efforts of a growing community, working hand-in-hand towards developing theoretical tools and predictions to analyze, interpret and optimize the results that will be obtained at the EIC, unveiling the role of the glue that binds us all. This effort is along the lines of various initiatives taken in the U.S., and supported by colleagues worldwide, such as the ones by the EIC User Group which were highlighted during the Snowmass Process and the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5)., Comment: White Paper contribution to the Latin American Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructure (III LASF4RI

A conformal invariant QED-inspired model is solved for a general covariant linear gauge using the Dyson-Schwinger equations for the propagators assuming a pure vector like interaction. The leading corrections to the asymptotic solutions and the exponents, that characterize the corrections to each of the two fermion propagator functions, are computed as a function of the coupling and gauge fixing parameter $\xi$. For the scalar component of the fermion propagator our findings generalizes for linear covariant gauges previous results found in the literature and reproduce the outcome of the perturbative analysis of quenched QED in the Landau gauge. Our solution for the exponent associated with vector component of the fermion propagator is new and, in the weak coupling regime, agrees with the estimation based on the perturbative analysis of quenched QED. Of the two critical exponents describing the conformal limit of the vector interaction, one of them is, in QED, associated with the regime where chiral symmetry is broken dynamically, which demands one mass scale, namely the Miransky scaling. A second mass scale has to be introduced at larger coupling constants and is associated with a change on the nature of the fermion wave function. This provides one example, that it is possible to find two interwoven cycles in Quantum Field Theory, albeit in a truncated framework, as it is known in the quantum few-body problem in the limit of a zero-range interaction.

This work investigates static and dynamical quark star properties within a $D_3-D_7$ holographic model. We solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations for the quark matter equation of state obtained from the brane configuration. We determine the mass-radius diagram for a range of model parameters and compare with recent NICER observational data for the pulsars PSR J$0030+0451$ and PSR J$0740+6620$. Motivated by the GW170817 event detected by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration, we also calculate the tidal deformability parameter obtained for each component of the binary star system. We show that quark stars composed of flavor-independent quark matter derived from the $D_3-D_7$ holographic model are not able to satisfy simultaneously the LIGO-Virgo and NICER astrophysical bounds.

We study the properties of the charged kaon in symmetric nuclear matter using a Bethe-Salpeter amplitude to model the quark-anti-quark bound state, which is well constrained by previous studies of its vacuum properties. The electromagnetic form factor, charge radius, decay constant and the light-front valence component probability are investigated in symmetric nuclear matter. In order to describe the constituent up and anti-strange quarks in nuclear matter, we adopt the ``quark-meson coupling (QMC) model", which has been widely applied to various hadronic and nuclear phenomena in the nuclear medium., Comment: 11 pages, 16 figures, revtex4 style. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1404.5873

This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. The Bethe-Salpeter equation for a pseudoscalar bound-system, with i) a ladder kernel with massive gluons, ii) dynamically-dressed quark mass function and iii) an extended quark-gluon vertex, is solved in Minkowski space by using the Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The quark dressing is implemented through a phenomenological ansatz, which was tuned by lattice QCD calculations of the quark running mass. The latter were also used for assigning the range of the gluon mass and the parameter featuring the extended color density. This framework allows to investigate the gluon dynamics that manifest itself in the quark dressing, quark-gluon vertex and the binding, directly in the physical space. We present the first results for low-density pseudoscalar systems in order to elucidate the onset of the interplay between the above mentioned gluonic phenomena, and we discuss both static and dynamical quantities, like valence longitudinal and transverse distributions.

The homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) of a (1/2)$^+$ bound system, that has both fermionic and bosonic degrees of freedom, that we call a {\em mock nucleon}, is studied in Minkowski space, in order to analyse the chiral limit in covariant gauges. After adopting an interaction kernel built with a one-particle exchange, the $\chi$-BSE is numerically solved by means of the Nakanishi integral representation and light-front projection. Noteworthy, the chiral limit induces a scale-invariance of the model and consequently generates a wealth of striking features: i) it reduces the number of non trivial Nakanishi weight functions to only one; ii) the form of the surviving weight function has a factorized dependence on the two relevant variables, compact and non-compact one; iii) the coupling constant becomes an explicit function of the real exponent governing the power-law fall-off of the non trivial Nakanishi weight function. The thorough investigation at large transverse-momentum of light-front Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, obtained with massive constituents, provides a confirmation of the expected universal power-law fall-off, with exponents predicted by our non-perturbative framework. Finally, one can shed light on the exponents that govern the approach to the upper extremum of the longitudinal-momentum fraction distribution function of the {\em mock nucleon}, when the coupling constant varies.

Strange axial-vector kaons, $K_1$, and $f_1$ meson resonances are investigated in the 4-flavor AdS/QCD model. Their underlying differential configurational entropy is computed and the mass spectra of higher-excited resonances, in both these mesonic families, are achieved and discussed. This technique merges the 4-flavor AdS/QCD and experimental data regarding the mass spectrum of $K_1$ and $f_1$ meson resonances that have been already detected and reported in the Particle Data Group, also bringing forth a route to explore physical features of the next generation of resonances in the $K_1$ and $f_1$ meson families., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

The unpolarized twist-2 (leading) and twist-3 (subleading), T-even, transverse-momentum dependent quark distributions in the pion are evaluated for the first time by using the actual solution of a dynamical equation in Minkowski space. The adopted theoretical framework is based on the homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter integral equation with an interaction kernel given by a one-gluon exchange, featuring an extended quark-gluon vertex. The masses of quark and gluon as well as the interaction-vertex scale have been chosen in a range suggested by lattice-QCD calculations, and calibrated to reproduce both pion mass and decay constant. The sum rules to be fulfilled by the transverse-momentum dependent distributions are carefully investigated, particularly the leading-twist one, that has to match the collinear parton distribution function, and hence can be scrutinized in terms of existing data as well as theoretical predictions. Noteworthy, the joint use of the Fock expansion of the pion state facilitates a more in-depth analysis of the content of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, allowing for the first time to determine the gluon contribution to the quark average longitudinal fraction, that results to be $\sim 6\%$. The current analysis highlights the role of the gluon exchanges through quantitative analysis of collinear and transverse-momentum distributions, showing, e.g. for both leading and subleading-twists, an early departure from the widely adopted exponential fall-off, for $|k_\perp|^2 > m^2$, with the quark mass $\sim \Lambda_{QCD}$., Comment: 36 pages and 17 figures. The pion structure in Minkowski space is explored using the Nakanishi integral representation. A general framework is developed for the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude based on the Kallen-Lehmann representation of the dressed quarks with an ansatz for the pseudo-scalar $\pi-q\bar q$ vertex fulfilling the axial Ward-Takahashi identity. The Nakanishi weight functions are derived for the scalar amplitudes associated with the decomposition of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in different operator bases in the Dirac spinor space in terms of the involved spectral densities. The approach is applied to an analytical model of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, which is combined with Landau gauge lattice QCD results for the quark running mass at space-like momentum. From the Nakanishi integral representation several pion observables were calculated, such as the decay constant, the spin decomposition of the valence probabilities, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions from the valence component of the light-front wave function.

The parton distribution of the pion is obtained for the first time from the solution of a dynamical equation in Minkowski space. The adopted equation is the homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter one with a ladder kernel, described in terms of i) constituent quarks and gluons degrees of freedom, and ii) an extended quark-gluon vertex. The masses of quark and gluon as well as the interaction-vertex scale have been chosen in a range suggested by lattice QCD calculations, and calibrated to reproduce both pion mass and decay constant. Beside the full parton distribution, we have also calculated the contribution from the light-front valence wave function, corresponding to the lowest Fock component in the expansion of the pion state. After applying an evolution with an effective charge and a LO splitting function, a detailed and inspiring comparison with both the extracted experimental data ( with and without resummation effects) and other recent calculations obtained in different frameworks is presented. Interestingly, in a wide region of longitudinal-momentum fraction, the parton distribution function receives sizable contributions from the higher Fock-components of the pion state at the initial scale, while approaching the tail the light-front valence component dominates, as expected. Moreover, an exponent $\sim$ 3 is found suitable for describing the tail at the scale 5.2 GeV., Comment: 7 pages and 3 figures. To be published in PRD/letter

In the present work, we describe a model for the pion based on an analytic expression for the Bethe-Salpeter (BSA) amplitude, combined with some ingredients from Lattice QCD calculations. The running quark mass function $M (p^2)$, used here, reproduces well the results of Lattice QCD calculations. The analytical form of the running quark mass function contains a single time-like pole, which implies in time-like poles of the dressed quark propagator. Such a form allows to build the weight functions, $G_i(\gamma,z)$, for the Nakanishi integral representation of each scalar function, $\chi_{i}(k,p)$, appearing in the decomposition of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in terms of Dirac operators, Such scalar amplitudes can also be used to obtain the pion valence light-front wave function., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures (eps). We calculate crustal properties of neutron stars, namely, mass ($M_{\rm crust}$), radius ($R_{\rm crust}$) and fraction of moment of inertia ($\Delta I/I$) from parametrizations of hadronic relativistic mean-field (RMF) model consistent with symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter constraints, as well as some stellar boundaries. We verify which one are also in agreement with restrictions of $\Delta I/I \geqslant 1.4\%$ and $\Delta I/I \geqslant 7\%$ related to the glitching mechanism observed in pulsars, such as the Vela one. The latter constraint explains the glitches phenomenon when entrainment effects are taken into account. Our findings indicate that these parametrizations pass in the glitching limit for a neutron star mass range of $M\leqslant 1.82M_\odot$ ($\Delta I/I \geqslant 1.4\%$), and $M\leqslant 1.16M_\odot$ ($\Delta I/I \geqslant 7\%$). We also investigate the influence of nuclear matter bulk parameters on crustal properties and find that symmetry energy is the quantity that produces the higher variations on $M_{\rm crust}$, $R_{\rm crust}$, and~$\Delta I/I$. Based on the results, we construct a particular RMF parametrization able to satisfy $\Delta I/I \geqslant 7\%$ even at $M=1.4M_\odot$, the mass value used to fit data from the softer component of the Vela pulsar X-ray spectrum. The model also presents compatibility with observational data from PSR J1614-2230, PSR J0348+0432, and MSP J0740+6620 pulsars, as well as, with data from the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) mission., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, published in European Physical Journal A Topical Issue 'CompOSE: a repository for Neutron Star Equations of State and Transport Properties'

A dynamical model is applied to the study of the pion valence light-front wave function, obtained from the actual solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space, resorting to the Nakanishi integral representation. The kernel is simplified to a ladder approximation containing constituent quarks, an effective massive gluon exchange, and the scale of the extended quark-gluon interaction vertex. These three input parameters carry the infrared scale {\Lambda}QCD and are fine-tuned to reproduce the pion weak decay constant, within a range suggested by lattice calculations. Besides f{\pi}, we present and discuss other interesting quantities on the null-plane, like: (i) the valence probability, (ii) the dynamical functions depending upon the longitudinal or the transverse components of the light-front (LF) momentum, represented by LF-momentum distributions and distribution amplitudes, and (iii) the probability densities both in the LF-momentum space and the 3D space given by the Cartesian product of the covariant Ioffe-time and transverse coordinates, in order to perform an analysis of the dynamical features in a complementary way. The proposed analysis of the Minkowskian dynamics inside the pion, though carried out at the initial stage, qualifies the Nakanishi integral representation as an appealing effective tool, with still unexplored potentialities to be exploited for addressing correlations between dynamics and observable properties., Comment: 25 pages and 8 figures, mistypings fixed. In this work we investigate neutron stars (NS) in $f(\mathcal{R,T})$ gravity for the case $R+2\lambda\mathcal{T}$, $\mathcal{R}$ is the Ricci scalar and $\mathcal{T}$ the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. The hydrostatic equilibrium equations are solved considering realistic equations of state (EsoS). The NS masses and radii obtained are subject to a joint constrain from massive pulsars and the event GW170817. The parameter $\lambda$ needs to be negative as in previous NS studies, however we found a minimum value for it. The value should be $|\lambda|\lesssim0.02$ and the reason for so small value in comparison with previous ones obtained with simpler EsoS is due to the existence of the NS crust. The pressure in theory of gravity depends on the inverse of the sound velocity $v_s$. Since, $v_s$ is low in the crust, $|\lambda|$ need to be very small. We found that the increment in the star mass is less than $1\%$, much smaller than previous ones obtained not considering the realistic stellar structure, and the star radius cannot become larger, its changes compared to GR is less than $3.6\%$ in all cases. The finding that using several relativistic and non-relativistic models the variation on the NS mass and radius are almost the same for all the EsoS, manifests that our results are insensitive to the high density part of the EsoS. It confirms that stellar mass and radii changes depend only on crust, where the EoS is essentially the same for all the models. The NS crust effect implying very small values of $|\lambda|$ does not depend on the theory's function chosen, since for any other one the hydrostatic equilibrium equation would always have the dependence $1/v_s$. Finally, we highlight that our results indicate that conclusions obtained from NS studies done in modified theories of gravity without using realistic EsoS that describe correctly the NS interior can be unreliable., Comment: Few typos corrected and new references added. In the present work, we adopt a nonlinear scalar field theory coupled to the gravity sector to model galactic dark matter. We found analytical solutions for the scalar field coupled to gravity in the Newtonian limit, assuming an isotropic spacetime and a field potential, with a position dependent form of the superpotential, which entails the nonlinear dynamics of the model with self-interactions. The model introduces a position dependent enhancement of the self-interaction of the scalar fields towards the galaxy center, and while going towards the galaxy border the interaction tends to vanish building a non self-interacting DM scenario. The developed approach is able to provide a reasonable analytical description of the rotation curves in both dwarf and low surface brightness late-type galaxies, with parameters associated with the dynamics of the scalar field.

We apply the Induced Matter Model to a five-dimensional metric. For the case with null cosmological constant, we obtain a solution able to describe the radiation-dominated era of the universe. The positive $\Lambda$ case yields a bounce cosmological model. In the negative five-dimensional cosmological constant case, the scale factor is obtained as $a(t)\sim\sqrt[]{\sinh t}$, which is able to describe not only the late-time cosmic acceleration but also the non-accelerated stages of the cosmic expansion in a continuous form. This solution together with the extra-dimensional scale factor solution yields the material content of the model to be remarkably related through an equation of state analogous to the renowned MIT bag model equation of state for quark matter $p=(\rho-4B)/3$. In our case, $\rho=\rho_m+B$, with $\rho_m$ being the energy density of relativistic and non-relativistic matter and $B=\ \Lambda\ /16\pi$ represents the bag energy constant, which plays the role of the dark energy in the four-dimensional universe, with $\Lambda$ being the cosmological constant of the AdS$_5$ space-time. Our model satisfactorily fits the observational data for the low redshift sample of the experimental measurement of the Hubble parameter, which resulted in $H_0=72.2^{+5.3}_{-5.5}$km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$., Comment: 14 pages, 11 figures

The independence between few-body scales beyond the van der Waals universality is demonstrated for the extreme mass-imbalanced case of a specific many-boson system. This finding generalizes the scaling properties of universal tetramers to a broader class of heterogeneous few-boson systems. We assume two heavy atoms interacting with $(N-2)-$lighter ones at the unitary limit, using a particular case where no interactions are active between identical particles, by investigating the interwoven spectra of this many-body system for an arbitrary number of light bosons. A large mass-ratio between the particles allows us to treat this $N-$body system analytically, by solving an effective inverse-squared long-range interaction which is stablished for the two heavy bosons. For a cluster with $N-2$ light bosons ($N\ge 4$), we discuss the implications of the corresponding long-range potentials associated with different subsystem thresholds, implying in independent interwoven limit cycles for the correlation between the energies of excited $N-$body system. Our study with extreme mass-imbalanced few-boson bound states provides a fundamental understanding of the scaling behavior of their interwoven spectra. The novel insights enlarge the well-known Efimov physics paradigm and show the existence of different limit cycles, which could be probed by new experiments.

The challenge to obtain from the Euclidean Bethe--Salpeter amplitude the amplitude in Minkowski is solved by resorting to un-Wick rotating the Euclidean homogeneous integral equation. The results obtained with this new practical method for the amputated Bethe--Salpeter amplitude for a two-boson bound state reveals a rich analytic structure of this amplitude, which can be traced back to the Minkowski space Bethe--Salpeter equation using the Nakanishi integral representation. The method can be extended to small rotation angles bringing the Euclidean solution closer to the Minkowski one and could allow in principle the extraction of the longitudinal parton density functions and momentum distribution amplitude, for example.

The Dyson-Schwinger quark equation is solved for the quark-gluon vertex using the most recent lattice data available in the Landau gauge for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators, the full set of longitudinal tensor structures in the Ball-Chiu vertex, taking into account a recently derived normalisation for a quark-ghost kernel form factors and the gluon contribution for the tree level quark-gluon vertex identified on a recent study of the lattice soft gluon limit. A solution for the inverse problem is computed after the Tikhonov linear regularisation of the integral equation, that implies solving a modified Dyson-Schwinger equation. We get longitudinal form factors that are strongly enhanced at the infrared region, deviate significantly from the tree level results for quark and gluon momentum below 2 GeV and at higher momentum approach their perturbative values. The computed quark-gluon vertex favours kinematical configurations where the quark momentum $p$ and the gluon momentum $q$ are small and parallel. Further, the quark-gluon vertex is dominated by the form factors associated to the tree level vertex $\gamma_\mu$ and to the operator $2 \, p_\mu + q_\mu$. The soft gluon limit of the longitudinal part of the quark-gluon vertex is studied by resorting to non-perturbative approaches to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Based on a Slavnov-Taylor identity (STI), the longitudinal form factors is expressed in terms of the quark-ghost kernel, the quark self energy and the quark wave function. An exact relation between the non-vanishing longitudinal form factors is derived for the soft gluon limit and explored to understand the behaviour of the vertex. Within a Ball-Chiu vertex, the form factor $\lambda_1$ was analysed using recent lattice simulations for full QCD for the soft gluon limit. The lattice data shows that the gluon propagator resumes the momentum dependence of such component of the vertex. This connection is understood via a fully dressed one-loop Bethe-Salpeter equation. The behaviour of the remaining longitudinal form factors $\lambda_2(p^2)$ and $\lambda_3(p^2)$ is investigated combining both the information of lattice simulations and the derived relations based on the STI., Comment: Accepted for publication on EPJC

In this work, we report on the possibility of occurrence of oscillon configurations in the fourth state of matter. Oscillons are extremely long-lived, time-periodic, spatially-localised scalar field structures. Starting from a scalar field theory in 1+1 space-time dimensions, we find out that small-amplitude oscillons can be obtained in the framework of a $\phi^6$ self-interacting potential. A connection between our results and ideal MHD theory is established. Perspectives for a development of the present work are pointed out.

The excitations referred to as oscillons are long-lived time-dependent field configurations which emerge dynamically from non-linear field theories. Such long-lived solutions are of interest in applications that include systems of Condensed Matter Physics, the Standard Model of Particle Physics, Lorentz-symmetry violating scenarios and Cosmology. In this work, we show how oscillons may be accommodated in a supersymmetric scenario. We adopt as our framework simple ($\mathcal{N}=1$) supersymmetry in $D=1+1$ dimensions. We focus on the bosonic sector with oscillon configurations and their (classical) effects on the corresponding fermionic modes, (supersymmetric) partners of the oscillons. The particular model we adopt to pursue our investigation displays cubic self-interactions in the scalar sector.

Wormholes are a solution for General Relativity field equations which characterize a passage or a tunnel that connects two different regions of space-time and is filled by some sort of exotic matter, that does not satisfy the energy conditions. On the other hand, it is known that in extended theories of gravity, the extra degrees of freedom once provided may allow the energy conditions to be obeyed and, consequently, the matter content of the wormhole to be non-exotic. In this work, we obtain, as a novelty in the literature, solutions for charged wormholes in the $f(R,T)$ extended theory of gravity. We show that the presence of charge in these objects may be a possibility to respect some stability conditions for their metric. Also, remarkably, the energy conditions are respected in the present approach.

We analise braneworld scenarios via a configurational entropy (CE) formalism. Braneworld scenarios have drawn attention mainly due to the fact that they can explain the hierarchy problem and unify the fundamental forces through a symmetry breaking procedure. Those scenarios localize matter in a $(3+1)$ hypersurface, the brane, which is inserted in a higher dimensional space, the bulk. Novel analytical braneworld models, {in which the warp factor depends} on a free parameter $n$, were recently released in the literature. In this article we will provide a way to constrain this parameter through the relation between information and dynamics of a system described by the CE. We demonstrate that in some cases the CE is an important tool in order to provide the most probable physical system among all the possibilities. In addition, we show that the highest CE is correlated to a tachyonic sector of the configuration, where the solutions for the corresponding model are dynamically unstable.

The Bethe-Salpeter equation for two-body bound system with spin $1/2$ constituent is addressed directly in the Minkowski space. In order to accomplish this aim we use the Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and exploit the formal tool represented by the exact projection onto the null-plane. This formal step allows one i) to deal with end-point singularities one meets and ii) to find stable results, up to strongly relativistic regimes, that settles in strongly bound systems. We apply this technique to obtain the numerical dependence of the binding energies upon the coupling constants and the light-front amplitudes for a fermion-fermion $0^+$ state with interaction kernels, in ladder approximation, corresponding to scalar-, pseudoscalar- and vector boson exchanges, respectively. After completing the numerical survey of the previous cases, we extend our approach to a quark-antiquark system in $0^-$ state, taking both constituent-fermion and exchanged boson masses, from lattice calculations. The Wick-Cutkosky model is investigated using the framework of the Nakanishi Perturbative Integral Representation projected in the Light-Front hyperplane for an s-wave amplitude. We developed a new technique based on sucessive integration by parts of the Nakanishi Representation which enabled us to transform one of the integrations into a sum. With a set of boundary conditions it was possible to guess the format of the solution, which was in fact a distribution. The eigenequations obtained were the same as the originals of Cutkosky \cite{CutPR54}. Finally, a numerical check confirmed that the final equation reproduce the same eigenvalues as the initial Bethe-Salpeter equation.

The full spectrum of two-dimensional fermion states in a scalar soliton trap with a Lorentz breaking background is investigated in the context of the novel 2D materials, where the Lorentz symmetry should not be strictly valid. The field theoretical model with Lorentz breaking terms represents Dirac electrons in one valley and in a scalar field background. The Lorentz violation comes from the difference between the Dirac electron and scalar mode velocities, which should be expected when modelling the electronic and lattice excitations in 2D materials. We extend the analytical methods developed in the context of 1+1 field theories to explore the effect of the Lorentz symmetry breaking in the charge carrier density of 2D materials in the presence of a domain wall with a kink profile. The width and the depth of the trapping potential from the kink is controlled by the Lorentz violating term, which is reflected analytically in the band structure and properties of the trapped states. Our findings enlarge previous studies of the edge states obtained with domain wall and in strained graphene nanoribbon in a chiral gauge theory.

The Dirac equation in curved space is used to study the optical transmittance of deformed graphene along a given direction. Our theoretical analysis of the available experimental data for the light transmittance suggests that the periodic ripple associated with the out-of-plane deformation observed in unstrained graphene explains the observations. Furthermore, the experimental uniaxial strained graphene for light transmittance show two features, namely the modification of the $\cos^2\theta$ law and the decrease of the amplitude of the oscillations with the polarization angle $\theta$, which can be well accommodated within the theoretical analysis used here and provide further evidence of the validity of using QFT in curved space to understand two dimensional materials.

Actual solutions of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for a two-fermion bound system are becoming available directly in Minkowski space, by virtue of a novel technique, based on the so-called Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and improved by expressing the relevant momenta through light-front components, i.e. $k^\pm=k^0 \pm k^3$. We solve a crucial problem that widens the applicability of the method to real situations by providing an analytically exact treatment of the singularities plaguing the two-fermion problem in Minkowski space, irrespective of the complexity of the irreducible Bethe-Salpeter kernel. This paves the way for feasible numerical investigations of relativistic composite systems, with any spin degrees of freedom. We present a thorough comparison with existing numerical results, evaluated in both Minkowski and Euclidean space, fully corroborating our analytical treatment, as well as fresh light-front amplitudes illustrating the potentiality of non perturbative calculations performed directly in Minkowski space., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Configurational entropy has been revealed as a reliable method for constraining some parameters of a given model [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{92} (2015) 126005, Eur. Phys. J. C \textbf{76} (2016) 100]. In this letter we calculate the configurational entropy in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld models. Our results restrict the range of acceptability of the Gauss-Bonnet scalar values. In this way, the information theoretical measure in Gauss-Bonnet scenarios opens a new window to probe situations where the additional parameters, responsible for the Gauss-Bonnet sector, are arbitrary. We also show that such an approach is very important in applications that include p and Dp-branes and various superstring-motivated theories.

We investigate the dynamics of a quantum system coupled linearly to Gaussian white noise using functional methods. By performing the integration over the noisy field in the evolution operator, we get an equivalent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, which evolves the quantum state with a dissipative dynamics. We also show that if the integration over the noisy field is done for the time evolution of the density matrix, a gain contribution from the fluctuations, can be accessed in addition to the loss one from the non-hermitian Hamiltonian dynamics. We illustrate our study by computing analytically the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, which we found to be the complex frequency harmonic oscillator, with a known evolution operator. It leads to space and time localisation, a common feature of noisy quantum systems in general applications.

In this paper, we propose a method to describe the many-body problem of electrons in honeycomb materials via the introduction of random fields which are coupled to the electrons and have a Gaussian distribution. From a one-body approach to the problem, after integrating exactly the contribution of the random fields, one builds a non-hermitian and dissipative effective Hamiltonian with two-body interactions. Our approach introduces besides the usual average over the electron field a second average over the random fields. The interplay of two averages enables the definition of various types of Green's functions which allow the investigation of fluctuation-dissipation characteristics of the interactions that are a manifestation of the many-body problem. In the current work we study only the dissipative term, through the perturbative analysis of the dynamics associated the effective Hamiltonian generated by two different kinds of couplings. For the cases analysed, the eigenstates of the effective Hamiltonian are complex and, therefore, some of the states have a finite life time. Moreover, we also investigate, in the mean field approximation, the most general parity conserving coupling to the random fields and compute the width of charge carriers $\Gamma$ as a function of the Fermi energy $E_F$. The theoretical prediction for $\Gamma (E_F)$ is compared to the available experimental data for graphene. The good agreement between $\Gamma_{theo}$ and $\Gamma_{exp}$ suggests that description of the many-body problem associated to the electrons in honeycomb materials can indeed be done via the introduction of random fields.

The computation of the optical conductivity of strained and deformed graphene is discussed within the framework of quantum field theory in curved spaces. The analytical solutions of the Dirac equation in an arbitrary static background geometry for one dimensional periodic deformations are computed, together with the corresponding Dirac propagator. Analytical expressions are given for the optical conductivity of strained and deformed graphene associated with both intra and interbrand transitions. The special case of small deformations is discussed and the result compared to the prediction of the tight-binding model.

We propose a mirror model for ordinary and dark matter that assumes a new SU(3) gauge group of transformations, as a natural extension of the Standard Model (SM). A close study of big bang nucleosynthesis, baryon asymmetries, cosmic microwave background bounds, galaxy dynamics, together with the Standard Model assumptions, help us to set a limit on the mass and width of the new gauge boson. The cross section for the elastic scattering of a dark proton by an ordinary proton is estimated and compare to the WIMP--nucleon experimental upper bounds. It is observed that all experimental bounds for the various cross sections can be accommodated consistently within the gauge model. We also suggest a way for direct detection of the new gauge boson via one example of a SM forbidden process: $e^+ + p \rightarrow \mu^+ + X$, where $X = \Lambda$ or $\Lambda_c$., Comment: 11 pages, four figures, This paper supercedes arXiv:1108.2723

The final state interaction contribution to $D^+$ decays is computed for the $K^-\pi^+\pi^+$ channel within a light-front relativistic three-body model for the final state interaction. The rescattering process between the kaon and two pions in the decay channel is considered. The off-shell decay amplitude is a solution of a four-dimensional Bethe-Salpeter equation, which is decomposed in a Faddeev form. The projection onto the light-front of the coupled set of integral equations is performed via a quasi-potential approach. The S-wave $K\pi$ interaction is introduced in the resonant isospin $1/2$ and the non-resonant isospin $3/2$ channels. The numerical solution of the light-front tridimensional inhomogeneous integral equations for the Faddeev components of the decay amplitude is performed perturbatively. The loop-expansion converges fast, and the three-loop contribution can be neglected in respect to the two-loop results for the practical application. The dependence on the model parameters in respect to the input amplitude at the partonic level is exploited and the phase found in the experimental analysis, is fitted with an appropriate choice of the real weights of the isospin components of the partonic amplitude. The data suggests a small mixture of total isospin $5/2$ to the dominant $3/2$ one. The modulus of the unsymmetrized decay amplitude, which presents a deep valley and a following increase for $K\pi$ masses above $1.5$ GeV, is fairly reproduced. This suggests the assignment of the quantum numbers $0^+$ to the isospin 1/2 $K^*(1630)$ resonance.

The final state interaction (FSI) contribution to charged $D$ decay into $K\pi\pi$ is computed within a light-front framework, considering $S$-wave $K\pi$ interactions in $1/2$ and $3/2$ isospin states. The convergence of the rescattering series is checked computing terms up to the third perturbative order. The role of the resonances above $K^*_0(1430)$, and the contribution of the $K\pi$ $3/2$ isospin channel to charged three-body $D$ decays, are studied against the available phase-shift analysis., Comment: 6 pages and 3 figures. We compute the optical conductivity for an out-of-plane deformation in graphene using an approach based on solutions of the Dirac equation in curved space. Different examples of periodic deformations along one direction translates into an enhancement of the optical conductivity peaks in the region of the far and mid infrared frequencies for periodicities $\sim100\,$nm. The width and position of the peaks can be changed by dialling the parameters of the deformation profiles. The enhancement of the optical conductivity is due to intraband transitions and the translational invariance breaking in the geometrically deformed background. Furthemore, we derive an analytical solution of the Dirac equation in a curved space for a general deformation along one spatial direction. For this class of geometries, it is shown that curvature induces an extra phase in the electron wave function, which can also be explored to produce interference devices of the Aharonov-Bohm type.

We show that final state interactions are important in shaping Dalitz plots for the decay $D^+ \rar K^- \p^+ \p^+$. The theoretical treatment of this reaction requires a blend of several weak and hadronic processes and hence it is necessarily involved. In this talk we present results from a calculation which is still in progress, but has already unveiled the role of important dynamical mechanisms. We do not consider explicit quark degrees of freedom and our study is performed within an effective hadronic framework. In spite of the relatively wide window of energies available in the Dalitz plot for the $D^+$ decay, we depart from $SU(3)\times SU(3)$ chiral perturbation theory and extend its range by means of unitarization. The honeycomb carbon structure of graphene and nanotubes has a dynamics which can give rise to a spectrum. This can be excited via the interaction with an external electromagnetic field. In this work, non-linear waves on graphene and nanotubes associated with the carbon structure are investigated using a gauge model. Typical energies are estimated and there scaling with the nanoribbon width investigated. Furthermore, the soliton-photon interaction depends on the incident photon polarization. In particular, we find that the nanoribbon is transparent when the polarization is along the largest length. Relying on the scaling with the width, we suggest a way to experimentally identify the soliton waves in nanoribbons.

We develop a model for visible matter-dark matter interaction based on the exchange of a massive gray boson called herein the Mulato. Our model hinges on the assumption that all known particles in the visible matter have their counterparts in the dark matter. We postulate six families of particles five of which are dark. This leads to the unavoidable postulation of six parallel worlds, the visible one and five invisible worlds. A close study of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), baryon asymmetries, cosmic microwave background (CMB) bounds, galaxy dynamics, together with the Standard Model assumptions, help us to set a limit on the mass and width of the new gauge boson. Modification of the statistics underlying the kinetic energy distribution of particles during the BBN is also discussed. In the present work, we investigate how structural defects in graphene can change its transport properties. In particular, we show that breaking of the sublattice symmetry in a graphene monolayer overcomes the Klein effect, leading to confined states of massless Dirac fermions. Experimentally, this corresponds to chemical bonding of foreign atoms to carbon atoms, which attach themselves to preferential positions on one of the two sublattices. In addition, we consider the scattering off a tensor barrier, which describes the rotation of the honeycomb cells of a given region around an axis perpendicular to the graphene layer. We demonstrate that in this case the intervalley mixing between the Dirac points emerges, and that Klein tunneling occurs., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures
