Substitution of oxygen by fluorine in the borate group offers a materials platform from which intriguing structure and functionality may arise. Herein, we report a new fluorooxoborate, BaB2O3F2, synthesized by introducing the F atoms into the BaO–B2O3 system. BaB2O3F2 exhibits a unique oxyfluoride layer 2∞ [B2O3F]− and a deep‐ultraviolet cutoff edge below 180 nm. The effect of the introduction of F atoms on the structure and optical property of the borate group has been investigated; this should be useful to further expand borate chemistry and materials. There is a need for highly efficient photocatalysts, particularly for water purification. In this study, we fabricated a mesoporous TiO2 thin film on a boron-doped diamond (BDD) layer by a surfactant-assisted sol-gel method, in which self-assembled amphiphilic surfactant micelles were used as an organic template. Scanning electron microscopy revealed uniform mesopores, approximately 20 nm in diameter, that were hexagonally packed in the TiO2 thin film. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy clarified that the framework crystallized in the anatase phase. Current⁻voltage (I⁻V) measurements showed rectification features at the TiO2/BDD heterojunction, confirming that a p⁻n hetero-interface formed. The as-synthesized mesoporous TiO2/BDD worked well as a photocatalyst, even with a small volume of TiO2 (15 mm × 15 mm × c.a. 1.5 µm in thickness). The use of deep UV light (λ = 222 nm) as a light source was necessary to enhance photocatalytic activity, due to photo-excitation occurring in both BDD and TiO2.

Organometal halide perovskites have been considered as promising candidates for high‐performance low‐cost photodetectors. Nonetheless, as perovskite photodetectors are usually built on glass or polymer substrates, their UV‐C (200–280 nm) photodetection ability is quite limited due to the high absorption of glass or polymer substrates. Here, a uniform UV photodetector array which integrates perovskite photodiodes with inorganic CsPbBr3 quantum dot (QD) fluorophor is reported. CsPbBr3 quantum dot fluorophor not only acts as an efficient down‐conversion layer to convert UV light into 510 nm light, but also functions as a protective layer to prevent degradation of hybrid organic–inorganic perovskite by UV light. Compared to direct UV‐C (279 nm) detection with perovskite photodiode, the QD integrated photodetector shows a higher responsibility and detectivity to UV‐C, with values enhanced by 1 order in magnitude. This work provides a low‐cost and effective approach for all perovskite‐based UV‐C photodetectors and imagers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
