Central bank digital currency (CBDC) projects have advanced the furthest in small or developing economies. In contrast, central banks in wealthy countries where technologies that fuelled this trend developed are holding back on such plans. What explains this divergence? I argue that CBDCs are attractive to states which see them as useful to increase and reinforce sovereignty over economic territory. They have thus been adopted in states with high currency substitution, large informal economies, or limited reach of the banking system. For similar reasons, wealthier states see less need for CBDCs. This article reads Xiaolu Guo's Once Upon a Time in the East: A Story of Growing Up (2017) as a counter-stereotyping memoir set against Jung Chang's Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China (1991) through the authors' divergent narrative stances in self-creation. Although both memoirs belong to the literary genre of autobiography and narrate lives in the past, Guo, by comparing herself to the heroic Monkey King, exhibits a distinct perspective that characterizes her immigrant experience as a nomad's feminist journey into art. Guo's self-creation as a nomadic artist deterritorializes the affiliation of diasporic Chinese writing with misery literature, labelled "ethnic", and reveals the complexity of contemporary Chinese culture. Thus, this counter-stereotyping memoir represents how an Anglophone Chinese writer of the post-Chang generation tends to negotiate her ethnic status and demonstrates the multiplicity of being Chinese. The concept of assemblage, drawing on the posthuman theorisations of Deleuze and Guattari, delineates a dynamic and new materialist approach to an event. In this approach, desires, material agency and (de)(re)territorialisation emerge as key concepts, and open ways to understand the school classroom in early childhood as a territory where lines of flight challenge the boundaries of normative education. This paper focuses on a classroom assemblage and aims to cartography the material relations between human and non-human bodies, where (de)(re)territorialisation forces are constant. We draw on diffractive ethnography in order to think-with-theory, making use of a vignette and a diagram containing its material relations. Our analysis highlights the agentic relations of matter in the assemblage, the role of desire as a dynamic force and the ever-changing flow of (de)(re)territorialisations that emerge in it. This study shows the complexity of material experience in early childhood, where desire and deterritorialisation frame creative and unexpected processes that defy the idea of education and classroom activities as linear processes controlled by adults. On the contrary, the cartography depicted in this research supports an idea of education as a space for the emergence of creative lines of flight, material relations and non-linear meaning-making. AbstractThe article makes an exploration of three motifs in the context of Lebanese-French Arab migrant writer Amin Maalouf’s fictional text Ports of Call (2001) by applying the theoretical framework of deterritorialization and reterritorialization as presented by the French theorists Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari and expanded by the Indian-American theorist Arjun Appadurai. As suggested by the four key words of the writer’s introduction–namely ‘Lebanese’, ‘French’, ‘Arab’ and ‘migrant’–the three motifs being de-composed into their basic components are identity, especially the migrant identity, the Levant as a symbol of the migrant’s lost home and deterritorialization/reterritorialization in the context of globalization. Migrants are deterritorialized and departure from long-established origins causes a disruption in the conventional notions of ‘home’ and ‘identity’ turning them into something fluid rather than fixed. This leads to a revision of the postcolonial postulation which makes migrancy a locus for the reworking of nation’s primacy as a referent in the construction of identity. The intricate nature of relation between political and personal experiences highlights the tangling of ideological stances on nation and nationalism in the cultural production taking place at the site of migration.

Through a close examination of various platforms and content offered by the top three Chinese streaming services, iQiyi, Tencent Video and YouKu, this study provides an overview of these services’ international operation and starts mapping out the global presence of Chinese pop culture content.

The article explores how the epic work Ædnan (2018) by Linnea Axelsson makes use of the epic genre. By simultaneously employing and recontextualizing epic conventions, Ædnan brings about a decolonization of the epic tradition in which inherited structures of this tradition are re-examined and where possibilities still available in the epic genre are highlighted. The article especially dwells on questions of orality, sound, and embodied language. It points to epic traditions associated with Johann Gottfried Herder, which are re-evaluated within a deterritorialized understanding of the epic, inspired by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.

Deleuze and Guattari's becoming is a dynamic alliance with beings. It is not a monad but creative involution. The incorporeal becoming deterritorialises the beings and roams nomadically between them. It has no subject or object, nor does it have centre or periphery; it is a becoming-in-itself. This article analyses the differences between Nietzsche's becoming and that of Deleuze and Guattari. It also summarises the three attributes of a becoming, which is solipsistic, revolutionary and always in-between. Julian Barnes's novel Love, etc exclusively utilises monologues as the narrative device which, along with its minimal personae, penetrating conflict and unsettling ending, prompts a becoming-Greek tragedy similar to Antigone. In this article, I argue that the greenwood in the early ballad A Lytell Gest of Robyn Hode constructs a unique subjectivity that can inform contemporary forms of resistance. In contrast to the greenwood, the "civilized," urban spaces found in the text are populated by corrupt individuals serving corrupt institutions. Robin Hood's actions in both smooth and striated spaces serve as the spatial foundations for an ethics of socio-political action. Emphasizing the concepts of solidarity or felaushyp, I show how Robin Hood embodies a form of ethics derived from the category of the "outlaw" and serve the wider community. In the end, this article utilizes the late medieval text of A Lytell Gest of Robyn Hode to explore the spatial and ethical construction of resistance to oppressive and striated authority. This article categorizes the resistance strategies used by traditional fishers on the coast of Paraná, Brazil, against local authorities that seek to deterritorialize their territories. Documentary sources and interviews with informants were used as part of this research. The local traditional fishing sector is not immune to external pressure. The resistance strategies of this group can be classified into eight categories. We find that the local traditional fishers already lost much of their territory during the last few decades, and the pressures they face continue to increase. However, the rise in resistance actions throughout the twenty-first century allowed this group to engage with new perspectives concerning their struggle for territory. This article explores the conceptualization of the body among former Congolese soldiers living as refugees in Johannesburg. The article draws on extensive fieldwork in Johannesburg, South Africa and employs the concept of deterritorialization and reterritorialization to explain the bodies of those who have decided to join the Congolese Army. The article reveals the complex ways in which the army manipulates soldiers' bodies to generate diverse lines of connection, coalition, and removal (or disconnection). We support that the soldiers' bodies are not necessarily owned by the country, but that soldiers' bodies become owned by military institutions, who employ nationalist rhetoric to justify their existence and actions. The act of joining the army could be considered a way of cutting ties with civilian life and joining a new world in which the individual is socialized into military culture. Through initiation, the soldier's body is reterritorialized; it becomes a national asset. While this study focuses on former Congolese soldiers, it has broader relevance, giving insight into how soldiers perceive their body shifting from individual possession to be reterritorialized as the body of the nation. In this article, I will try to elucidate the relevance of Deleuze and Guattari's approaches in the philosophy of education, along the lines of the Deleuzean pedagogy of 'do with me' and the absence of pre-established rules for learning or methodological anarchism. To do so, I will consider three important milestones in Deleuze and Guattari's thought: (i) antihumanism as the matrix of a pedagogy of generosity, (ii) the primacy of functioning over meaning as a vindication of practical learning versus rote learning, (iii) the concepts of 'deterritorialisation-reterritorialisation' as the unlearning required by all true learning. The Deleuze/Guattari text Anti-Oedipus burst onto the intellectual scene in 1972 as a radical new means to reconceptualise capitalism and its effects. At the heart of Anti-Oedipus and its analysis of capitalism is the concept of deterritorialization, and how it evacuates identities, culture, values, and, indeed, coherent thought itself, and it makes them susceptible to the equations and dynamics of capital flows. Anti-Oedipus presents the mechanisms with respect to how deterritorialization interacts with and to an extent liberates desire as 'desiring-machines'. This philosophy of education paper applies the workings of deterritorialization and desire from Anti-Oedipus to the dynamics of contemporary climate change education and the Anthropocene. As such, it posits this dynamic as being critical to present day approaches to the philosophy of education that wish to engage with capitalism and its effects, and at the same time positively enter the climate change debate. This paper suggests that understanding the matrix of deterritorialization, desire, climate change and learning, is perhaps the most important work that can be performed in the philosophy of education today and with respect to the future. Souvenir production and consumption play an important role in tourism destination development. Because constructs most commonly examined until now (e.g., authenticity, production methods, and souvenir typologies) have failed to explain several paradoxes, this study examines souvenirs from a different conceptual angle: product???place relationships based on the framework of territorialization, deterritorialization, and reterritorialization. Based upon this theoretical framework, a new typology of souvenirs was generated– localized souvenirs , generic souvenirs , and customized souvenirs –which indicate changes in souvenirs within the broader context of time and space. Also, by examining souvenirs across the spatial and temporal domains, the uneven development of souvenirs at different stages is also revealed. These may deepen and reframe our understanding of souvenirs, production methods, and authenticity, which researchers have taken for granted in previous studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nurses working in correctional and forensic mental health settings face unique challenges in the provision of care to patients within custodial settings. The subjectivities of both patients and nurses are subject to the power relations, discourses and abjection encountered within these practice milieus. Using a poststructuralist approach using the work of Foucault, Kristeva, and Deleuze and Guattari, this paper explores how both patient and nurse subjectivities are produced within the carceral logic of this apparatus of capture. Recognizing that subjectivities are fluid and dynamic, and capable of change, Deleuze and Guattari's concept of deterritorialization will illustrate opportunities for resistance, where nurses can begin to practice outside the dominant carceral logic (and restrictions) of the system. Diasporic, foreign and immigrant, the Jew may epitomize the condition of the stateless, deterritorialized, uninterruptedly in mutation individual. The theme appears in the works of two twentieth-century fictionists, Franz Kafka’s Amerika, or The Man who Disappeared, and Elisa Lispector’s No Exílio, both from a European reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian empire, one of them residing in Prague, from where he rarely left, the other, settled in Brazil, where the author produced her literary work.

In contemporary audiovisual production (mainly the Apple TV series See), the theme of the loss of sight due to (environmental) catastrophe becomes a symptom for the analysis of the disintegration and revival of a world that has deterritorialized due to the exploitative demands of postmodern capitalism, thus de facto marking the end of the so-called Anthropocene era. If Western philosophy traditionally defines man as an animal possessing reason and at the same time an animal in which the different senses are in balance, the loss of sight and the respective post-apocalyptic environment in which survivors exist without the possibility of seeing, on the one hand, outlines a process that could seemingly be considered degenerative or decadent: without sight, man is not man and approaches the animal. On the other hand, however, the loss of this sense also articulates the hints of the renewal of a world that will be a posthuman world, in which the new norm and normative of life becomes life without sight as a new form of social, economic, habitual arrangement, in which sight is understood as something regressive, as something responsible for the almost complete destruction of humanity. This in itself brings about a transformation of the relationship between human and non-human actors, transformations in the flows of belief and desire, and ways of articulating life, which, following Deleuze, is actualized from virtual modulations and temporal variants of events. My perspective is therefore based on the philosophy of G. Deleuze and vitalism in general, and I intend to read the figure of the loss of sight as a kind of counter-actualization of the event: as an effort to negate the effects of catastrophe and at the same time to establish a new (life) form.

This article proposes a comparative reading between the novel O marinheiro (1983), by Abreu, and Pessoa's dramatic poem (1915). "Sailor" refers to movement, however, in both narratives the movement occurs in the internal plane, in the invisible that becomes visible through the subjectivity placed in exile. While two different traditions, modernism in Portugal and Brazilian postmodernity, distance themselves by time and by their extensive political and cultural transformations, they also approach by the intensity and delicacy in portraying, in a dreamlike environment, the anxieties and yearnings of the human being before the existence and the unknown. Observing the implications of the hierarchy of literature, and the relation between the discourse of the colonized and the colonizer, through the ideas defended by Silviano Santiago, we can perceive the feeling of inferiority before the metropolis and the denial of the possibility of originality of the discourse of the colonized, which does not happen in Abreu's work.

This research article explores the themes of diasporic identity and the unfixed self in Olga Tokarczuk's novels Flights and The Books of Jacob. Drawing upon concepts of liminality, hybridity, and deterritorialization, the article examines how Tokarczuk's characters navigate the complexities of displacement, cultural negotiation, and the ever-shifting nature of selfhood. Through close textual analysis, the article argues that Tokarczuk's characters embody the fluidity and dynamism of diasporic identities, constantly challenging fixed notions of belonging and embracing a sense of selfhood that is unmoored from singular locations or narratives. Too often, regional, rural and remote cities and towns are configured in deficit to the metropolis. As local newspapers have closed, how are local stories gathered, understood, published and disseminated? The objective of this article probes how women leaders in the media industries deploy their lived experiences to re/shape, reimagine and sustain regional, rural and remote life through digitizing community leadership. We explore how technology provides new opportunities to share stories of women’s strength and capacity to build new pathways between information and citizens. Using original interviews, we investigate how women in these locations use the internet and digitization to share stories of their communities and culture to metropolitan environments in the absence of truly local news outlets, bypassing traditional news media and taking control of how their stories are told. This approach to the research demonstrates that alternative modes of ‘writing back’ are emerging. Certainly, analogue injustices overlay digital inequalities. However, the opportunities and potential for resistance and interventions are revealed and disseminated the courage, direction and gumption of women summoning a different mode of media leadership that is critiques and transforms traditional models of ownership, production, and consumption. The implications of this paper are important, as we offer a fresh model to think about regional media and regional media leadership. Yet the value of this research transcends media, summoning a model of social, cultural, and economic transformation, through digitization, disintermediation and deterritorialization.

This article analyzes how Severo Sarduy uses toponyms, demonyms, and foreign loanwords in the novel Maitreya (1978). The narrator approaches these words from a deterritorialized perspective, rethinking geography as a science (toponyms), identity as a concept rooted in a homeland (demonyms), and the purity of language as a closed system (foreign loanwords). The analysis hypothesizes that the use of these words as visual-poetic flashes builds a rich idiolect without consideration for their referential function.

The article explores how the concept of deterritorialization developed by authors Giles Delleuze and Félix Guattari can be applied to the analysis of contemporary African American poets Patricia Smith and Jamaal May. Topics discussed include the concept of deterritorialization and its relevance for literary analysis, an overview of poems by Smith and May, and the use of symbols by Smith and May in their practices of deterritorialization.

As with the emergence of traditional and industrial technologies in the past, people's ideas about many things, including lifestyles, production and productivity processes, work and labor systems, industrial and professional services, social relations and education, etc., have changed. Concepts have also undergone semantic and conceptual transformations. For example, the emergence of concepts such as cyber democracy, technological revolution, media literacy, digital enlightenment, digital identity, and... are also among the changes and transformations that have occurred under the influence of the emergence of new technologies. In this article, we will mention the consequences of the evolution of new technologies in the field of education and especially the turns that occur in education and training due to technological advances. Various alternative forms of communication have emerged, such as community radio, radio podcasts, publications in networks, and press releases. These tools have served communities of eastern and southwestern Antioquia and the organizations COA and MOVETE, to sustain their causes over time, make the communicative task massive, and extend an invitation to more people to take action in favor of the defense of the territory. This has the advantage that popular communication strategies allow many stakeholders to become not only consumers and receivers of the information that other people produce, but also creators and transmitters of their own information, which emerges from the dynamics of their daily lives, by helping to reduce the communication gap between mass media and the excluded communities. M. John Harrison is often considered one of the most commercially underestimated writers of science fiction and fantasy in the UK since the mid-1960s. This article aims to focus on Harrison's under-recognized contributions to science fiction while focusing on his later work--the KEFAHUCHI TRACT trilogy (2002-2012). Drawing upon Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, I will argue that Harrison's trilogy provides a line of flight escaping the binary dichotomies between self and other, one and multiple, and subject and object, guiding us toward our eventual deterritorialization and liberating us from the competitive nature of capitalist realism. This process is certainly not just a celebration of deterritorialization for its own sake, but rather a refusal to allow the complexity of reality to be reduced to a mere reflection of the economic norms of capitalist realism. In this paper the characterization of the work of art as a map of intensity, as proposed by Gilles Deleuze in his essay What the children say (gathered in Critique et clinique), will be analyzed. Art's cartographic aspect is linked to the concept of deterritorialization and the Body without Organs that the philosopher, along with Félix Guattarí, develops in Thousand Plateaus. Thus, the art-cartography represents the becoming-world of the subject that transits the Body-without-organs and the intensive differences that populate the desert of multiplicity. Each way travelled is descripted by an artistic map where the haecceities and the thresholds of flows that pierce through the disorganized bodies are portrayed. The map of intensity would be the cartographic representation of the haul travelled by a subject immersed in a hodologic space, being every line of the map a journey within an intensive space. This article addresses the case of Afro-descendants in the Rio Santiago Cayapas Commune, Ecuador. Chapter I contextualizes Esmeraldas within the Chocó Biogeographic region. Chapter II analyzes the history from African slaves to the resistance stronghold. Chapter III explores how the resource-rich Rio Santiago Cayapas Commune faces state-driven displacement, logging industry, oil palm agriculture, and mining, prioritizing resource exploitation, impacting local communities. This study follows the origins of and search for "Clock Man", from a nineteenth century Yorkshire folktale to a 2012 forum post about a lost 1976 Czechoslovakian stop motion film, and evaluates its merits as a piece of contemporary world literature. The internet has significantly altered how people communicate and share stories, allowing a range of texts to be instantly created, disseminated and discussed around the world. As the classification and study of 'world literature' are affected by changing standards of communication and literary merit, these new media communications can provide contemporary insight into how literature may be found in virtual public spaces. This paper blends theories of literariness, reception and new media with Deleuze and Guattari's theory of deterritorialization to track the changes in the "Clock Man" story and observe broader trends of contemporary world literature in digital storytelling spaces. Beginning with the 1846 Mexican-American War and expanding to the post-9/11 era, the U.S.-Mexico border has become the embodiment of crises, conflicts, and reconciliation. The border crossing has occupied the headlines with strict border control policies and high death tolls along the border. A Pulitzer Prize finalist for the nonfiction category in 2005, Luis A. Urrea’s The Devil’s Highway (2004) gives voice to marginalized Mexican border crossers in his personal-political border writing. This article poses a major question about Mexicans crossing the border: why do they embark on a fatal journey across the border? As a response, the article explores the historical, cultural, economic, and political repercussions of Mexican border crossing through The Devil’s Highway. Mexicans’ sense of displacement and search for a place in American society and economy relate their border crossing to the concepts of deterritorialization and reterritorialization, keyed by Deleuze and Guattari. In addition to Arjun Appadurai’s intersectional global dynamics and John Tomlinson’s overwhelming mass media and communication networks, Mexican migrants’ broadened entrapment in a cycle of global deterritorialization and reterritorialization is noted. With the failure of border militarism and prevalent xenophobic responses, Urrea’s political narrative calls for collaboration between the United States and Mexico on diplomatic, legal, and humanitarian terms. Therefore, the analysis of Urrea’s pro-life narrative and his call for border policy reform provide a new dimension to the politics of border control, border and immigration studies, and human rights struggle along the border. As an interdisciplinary border narrative, The Devil’s Highway highlights the predominance of Mexican history, geopolitical and regional dynamics, and globalization in the experience of undocumented Mexican migrants.

ABSTRACTThis paper demonstrates that two novels of European and African origins, Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway (1925) and Emezi’s Freshwater (2018) share a common discursive formative. Nomadism, it is argued, constitutes the consciousness behind the textual formation of the two stories, and this consciousness informs the trajectory of border crossing observable in the two novels in terms of narration, characterization and incidents. The subjects in the stories mostly refuse fixed and normative identity, and are physically and mentally in motion. They traverse limits and lack sense of proportion. The narration apparently lacks cohesive elements as the stories, from varying narrative views, move from one point to another without transitional cues. Grounded in Postmodernism, particularly the concepts of deterritorialization and nomadism, this study shows that the two novels, though variant in many ways, are similar in terms of their figuring the nonrecognition and crossing of narrative, sexual, physical, mental and symbolic borders. This reestablishes and consolidates the novels’ relation to the post/modernist sensibility.
