Abstract

In mobile Ad Hoc network, nodes move freely, this can lead to frequent changes of network topology. Routing protocol algorithm is the strategy to establish communication links for network nodes, and its performance influences the availability of Ad Hoc network directly. By using wireless channel to transmit data in Ad Hoc network, the invaded malicious nodes will cause various attacks, aim to steal the transmission data or destroy the network. Based on the traditional proactive routing protocol for Ad Hoc network, an improved safe routing strategy SDSDV is put forward to resist attacks against routing protocols. The safe proactive routing protocol includes route request and route response two stages. When the network initialization is complete, after successful identity authentication by each other, secure communication paths are established between nodes and the encrypted data will be transmission through the path. The protocol integrates distributed authentication, encryption algorithm, hash check, and other security policy together. SDSDV protocol reduces the risk of malicious manipulation of routing information and ensures the safe and reliable routing between the source and destination nodes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract Certificate authorities (CAs) are the main components of PKI that enable us for providing basic security services in wired networks and Internet. But, we cannot use centralized CAs, in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). So, many efforts have been made to adapt CA to the special characteristics of MANETs and new concepts such as distributed CAs (DCAs) have been proposed that distribute the functionality of CA between MANET nodes. In this article, we study various proposed DCA schemes for MANET and then classify these schemes according to their internal structures and techniques. Finally, we propose the characteristics of an ideal DCA system that can be used to verify the completeness of any DCA scheme. This classification and taxonomy identify the weakness and constraints of each scheme, and are very important for designing more secure, scalable, and high performance DCA systems for MANETs and other networks.

6. Multiple-key cryptography-based distributed certificate authority in mobile ad-hoc networks

Abstract

Most prevalent Distributed Certificate Authority (DCA) schemes in the MANET are based upon threshold cryptography, which is invulnerable to mobile adversaries and tolerable to missing or faulty DCA server nodes, and thus becomes the "de facto" standard for the security framework in the MANET. However, this scheme cannot defeat Sybil attacks, in which a malicious node impersonates many identities. To solve the problem, a multiple-key cryptography-based DCA scheme, namely the MC-DCA scheme, is proposed in the paper. It is invulnerable to Sybil attacks, and achieves lower communication overhead and moderate latency compared with the threshold-based scheme, which is supported by the simulation results. © 2005 IEEE.
