The aim of this research was to assess the yield and postharvest characteristics of 'BRS Sol do Cerrado' sour passion fruits based on irrigation with varying levels of saline water and potassium fertilization. The study was conducted under field conditions at an experimental farm in São Domingos, Paraíba, Brazil. A randomized block design was implemented in a 5 × 4 factorial arrangement, with five levels of electrical conductivity of water (ECw): 0.3, 1.1, 1.9, 2.7, and 3.5 dS m−1, and four potassium doses (KD): 60, 80,100, and 120% of the recommended amount, with 3 replications. The potassium dose equivalent to 120% of the recommended dose in combination with low-salinity water resulted in the highest fresh mass accumulation in the sour passion fruit. Water electrical conductivity up to 2.7 dS m−1, along with the lowest recommended KD, led to increased levels of soluble solids and ascorbic acid in the sour passion fruit. Irrigation with water of 3.5 dS m−1 and using 80 to 100% of the recommended KD enhanced the total sugar content in the sour passion fruit. On the other hand, irrigation with water of 3.5 dS m−1 combined with 60% of the recommended KD resulted in a higher pulp yield in the 'BRS Sol do Cerrado' sour passion fruit 160 days post-transplantation. Adjustments in potassium fertilization management at different irrigation water salinity levels played a crucial role in maintaining both the production and quality of the sour passion fruit. West Indian cherry stands out in the Brazilian fruit scenario due to the nutritional quality of its fruits, making it a promising crop in the generation of employment and income. However, the occurrence of water sources with high concentrations of salts is a limiting factor for the expansion of crop area. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the production and post-harvest quality of West Indian cherry cv. BRS 366 Jaburu under prolonged saline stress and potassium-phosphorus fertilization combinations in the second year of cultivation. The experiment was carried out in 250 L lysimeters in a greenhouse in the municipality of Campina Grande-PB, Brazil. Treatments were distributed in randomized blocks in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with five levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water - ECw (0.6, 1.4, 2.2, 3.0, and 3.8 dS m-1) and four combinations of potassium- phosphorus fertilization (100/100, 85/85, 60/60, and 45/45% of K2O/P2O5 recommendation for the second year of cultivation) with three replicates. Irrigation water salinity of up to 3.8 dS m-1 does not compromise the post-harvest quality of West Indian cherry. The increase in water salinity reduces mean fruit weight and water consumption of plants, while waters with electrical conductivities of 3.0 and 2.0 dS m-1 promote the maximum values of total soluble solids and ascorbic acid in the fruits, respectively. The supply of 45/45% K2O/P2O5 of the fertilization recommendation provides the higher content of ascorbic acid in West Indian cherry fruits and, when associated with ECw of 1.4 dS m-1, promotes the higher production of the crop. The use of saline water sources for irrigation in semi-arid regions is a challenge for horticultural production since plants are sensitive to salt stress conditions, thus requiring techniques that allow plant acclimation, including nitrogen fertilization. From this perspective, this study aimed to evaluate the chloroplast pigments, water relationships, and growth of bell pepper plants irrigated with saline water and subjected to nitrogen fertilization. The experiment was conducted under field conditions at the Federal University of Campina Grande, Pombal - PB, where a randomized block design was adopted with a 5 x 5 factorial arrangement corresponding to five electrical conductivity levels of irrigation water (0.3, 1, 1.7, 2.4, and 3.1 dS m-1) and five nitrogen levels (50, 75, 100,125, and 150% of the dosage recommended for the crop), with three replications. The 125 and 150% N levels provided the highest relative water contents in bell pepper plants irrigated with electrical conductivity levels of up to 1.7 dS m-1. The contents of chlorophyll a, b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids, and stem diameter of bell pepper plants decreased when fertilized with 150% N and irrigated with the electrical conductivity of 3.1 dS m-1. The use of substances that can mitigate the harmful effects of salt stress is a promising alternative for the use of saline water, especially in semi-arid regions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in mitigating salt stress in the mini watermelon grown in a hydroponic system. The study was carried out in a greenhouse, in an area belonging to the Federal University of Campina Grande, Pombal, Paraíba. The experimental design was completely randomised using a split-plot factorial scheme wit h four levels of electrical conductivity for the nutrient solution--ECns (2.1, 3.1, 4.1, and 5.1 dS m-1) considered the plots, and four concentrations of hydrogen peroxide--H2O2 (0, 20, 40, and 60 μM) the subplots, with five replications. The foliar application of hydrogen peroxide in concentrations of between 17 and 20 µM mitigated the effects of salt stress on stomatal conductance, the rate of CO2 assimilation, carboxylation efficiency, and carotenoid content in the mini watermelon up to an ECns of 5.1 dS m-1. Foliar application of hydrogen peroxide in concentrations greater than 20 µM intensified the effects of salt stress on gas exchange and the synthesis of photosynthetic pigments in the mini watermelon. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological indices, growth, and seedling quality of the sour passion fruit cv. BRS SC1 as a function of irrigation with water of different cationic natures and exogenous application of salicylic acid. The experiment was conducted under plant nursery conditions at the CCTA/UFCG, Campus Pombal-PB, using a randomized block design set up in a 6 × 4 factorial arrangement referring to six cationic compositions of irrigation water (S1 - control, S2 - Na+, S3 - Ca2+, S4 - Na+ + Ca2+, S5 - Mg2+, and S6 - Na+ + Ca2+ + Mg2+) and four concentrations of salicylic acid - SA (0, 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mM), with three replications and two plants per plot. In the control treatment (S1), the plants were irrigated with the electrical conductivity level of 0.3 dS m-1, whereas the other treatments (S2, S3, S4, S5, and S6) used water with 4.0 dS m-1 obtained based on different cations, all in the form of chloride. The exogenous application of salicylic acid increased the content of chlorophyll b in the sour passion fruit seedlings. Salt stress negatively affected seedling growth. Seedling quality was affected by the electrical conductivity of irrigation water regardless of the cationic nature. Although showing reductions, the seedlings produced under high salinity showed a satisfactory Dickson quality index. The genotype cv. BRS SC1 is considered tolerant to salinity when irrigated with water salinized by Na+, Ca2+, Na+ + Ca2+, and Na+ + Ca2+ + Mg2+, and moderately tolerant when irrigated with water salinized by Mg2+. In the semi-arid region, the quality of water for irrigation stands out as a limiting factor for the expansion of agriculture. Thus, it is extremely important to search for alternatives that minimize the effects of salt stress on plants. Foliar application of salicylic acid stands out among these strategies. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the gas exchange, photosynthetic pigments, and growth of guava as a function of irrigation water salinity and exogenous application of salicylic acid in the post-grafting stage. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions, in a randomized block experimental design, in a 2 × 4 facto rial scheme, corresponding to two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.6 and 3.2 dS m-1) and four concentrations of salicylic acid (0; 1.2; 2.4 and 3.6 mM), with three replicates. Irrigation with water of 3.2 dS m-1 caused reductions in transpiration, CO2 assimilation rate, instantaneous water use efficiency and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency of guava, at 150 days after transplanting. Water with electrical conductivity of 3.2 dS m-1 reduced the growth in stem diameter and the absolute and relative growth rates, as well as the relative water content, and chlorophyll a and b contents of guava plants. Saline water is an alternative to the low availability of high-quality water in semi-arid regions. However, although these water sources negatively affect most crops, their use allied to management practices aiming to mitigate the effects of salts has been increasingly studied, including nitrogen fertilization. From this perspective, this study aimed to evaluate the growth and physicochemical characterization of cherry tomato plants irrigated with saline water and nitrogen fertilization. The experiment was conducted under field conditions at the Center of Sciences and Agrifood Technology of the Federal University of Campina Grande in Pombal - PB, using a randomized block design arranged as a 5 × 5 factorial referring to five electrical conductivity levels of irrigation water - ECw (0.3, 1.3, 2.3, 3.3, and 4.3 dS m-1) and five nitrogen doses - ND (50, 75, 100, 125, and 150% of the N recommendation), with three replications. Salt stress reduces plant growth and production. However, adequate fertilization can minimize the effects of salinity. From this perspective, this study aimed to assess the production and post-harvest quality of custard apple irrigated with saline water and fertilized with combinations of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the second year of cultivation. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design and arranged as a 2 × 8 factorial with three replications, using containers adapted as drainage lysimeters in a protected environment in the municipality of Campina Grande, PB. The factors consisted of two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water - ECw (0.8 and 3.0 dS m-1) and eight combinations of N-P-K fertilization: 100-100-100; 100-100-125; 100-125-100; 100-125-125; 125-100-100; 125-100-125; 125-125-100; and 125-125-125% of the recommended (100%) level (100-80-40 g of N-P2O5-K2O per plant per year). Irrigation with the water salinity level of 3.0 dS m-1 reduced custard apple production in the second year. However, fertilization with the 125-100-125% N-P-K combination increased the mean fruit weight, total soluble solids, and ascorbic acid content. High irrigation water salinity negatively affected the number of segments, number of fruits, number of seeds per plant, mean fruit weight, fruit diameter, and fruit height. The 125-100-40 g N-P-K combination provided the highest values of mean fruit weight, total soluble solids, ascorbic acid content, and maturity index regardless of the salinity level. This study aimed to evaluate the gas exchanges and growth of the purple passion fruit cultivar 'BRS Rubi do Cerrado' as a function of the salinity levels of the irrigation water and nitrogen fertilization. The research was conducted in pots adapted as drainage lysimeters, placed within a plant nursery, using a Regolithic Neosol of sandy texture, in the municipality of Pombal-PB, Brazil. A randomized block design was used, testing five levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.3, 1.1, 1.9, 2.7, and 3.5 dS m-1) associated with four doses of nitrogen (50, 75, 100, and 125% of the recommendation). The irrigation water salinity above 0.3 dS m-1 compromised the leaf area and the relative water content of the purple passion fruit 'BRS Rubi do Cerrado'. High doses of nitrogen enhance the deleterious effects of irrigation water salinity on stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal CO2 concentration, CO2 assimilation rate, number of leaves, stem diameter, and height of purple passion fruit plants. When waters with salinity levels of up to 1.3 dS m-1 are used, the dose of 125 mg of N kg-1 of soil is recommendation for providing increases in the CO2 assimilation rate of the purple passion fruit 'BRS Rubi do Cerrado' at 70 days after sowing (DAS). Arid and semiarid regions are vulnerable to water deficits and salinity. Citrus plants are sensitive to saline stress and require the use of tolerant scion-rootstock combinations. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate and classify citrus scion-rootstock combinations with respect to their tolerance to salinity during seedling formation in a protected environment. An experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with a 5 x 12 x 2 factorial scheme corresponding to five levels of water salinity (0.8, 1.6, 2.4, 3.2, and 4.0 dS m-1) applied in 12 citrus rootstocks grafted with two scion varieties: 'Tahiti' acid lime and 'Star Ruby' grapefruit. The scion-rootstock combinations were evaluated for accumulated dry matter and survival index at 330 days after sowing the rootstocks. Salinity exerted different effects on the dry matter formation of scion-rootstock combinations. 'Star Ruby' was less sensitive to salinity, particularly when the rootstocks were the hybrids from 'Sunki of Florida' mandarin (TSKFL) with 'Troyer' citrange (CTTR) -- 013 (TSKFL x CTTR -- 013), common 'Sunki' mandarin (TSKC) with 'Argentina' citrange (CTARG) -- 019 (TSKC x CTARG -- 019), TSKC with 'Swingle' citrumelo (CTSW) -- 031 (TSKC x CTSW -- 031), and the trifoliate hybrid (HTR) - 069, as well as the varieties Volkamer lemon and Santa Cruz Rangpur lime. This study aimed to evaluate the photosynthetic pigments and growth of the West Indian cherry cv. BRS 366 Jaburu in the post-grafting phase as a function of the salinity levels of the irrigation water and nitrogen fertilization under greenhouse conditions, in the municipality of Campina Grande-PB. The study was performed in randomized blocks, consisting of two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water - ECw (0.8 and 4.5 dS m-1) and four nitrogen doses (70, 85, 100, and 115% of the recommended dose for the crop), with three replications. The synthesis of chlorophyll a and carotenoids in the West Indian cherry plants was inhibited with ECw of 4.5 dS m-1. Nitrogen fertilization in the estimated doses of 92 and 80% of N reduced the effects of salt stress on the contents of chlorophyll a and b in West Indian cherry plants, at 630 days after transplanting. The increment in nitrogen fertilization increases quadratically the absolute and relative growth rate of the diameter in the rootstock of the West Indian cherry plants under irrigation with saline waters. This research aimed to evaluate the physiological indices and the accumulation of phytomass in clones of precocious dwarf cashew under salt stress during rootstock formation. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse in the municipality of Pombal-PB. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, and the treatments were organized in a 5 x 3 factorial arrangement, constituting the levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water - ECw (0.4 -Control; 1.2; 2.0; 2.8, and 3.6 dS m-1) and the clones of precocious dwarf cashew (Faga 11, Embrapa 51, CCP 76), with three replications and two plants per plot. Water salinity higher than 0.4 dS m-1 resulted in a decrease of the relative growth in plant height, leaf area, and phytomass accumulation in the cashew plant. The cashew clones are sensitive to water salinity from 0.4 dS m-1. Among the physiological indicators, the leaf area ratio, the sclerophylly index, and the root/shoot ratio of the precocious dwarf cashew are highlighted as salt stress indicators.
