Purpose: Since the foot is vital for maintaining stability and posture, knowing the difference between dominant and non-dominant knees can help reduce the risk of knee injury. Basketball players with dynamic knee valgus (DKV) following fatigue application were the subjects of the current study, which compared the angle and pattern of knee valgus in dominant and non-dominant feet. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, our selection process involved choosing 27 basketball players with a knee dynamic valgus pattern (mean age=20.77±3.06 years, mean height=188±9 centimeters, and mean weight=79.68±18.35 kilograms) in a non-random, targeted manner. To assess the knee valgus angle in the frontal plane, we performed imaging using a digital camera positioned at 366 centimeters and a height of 105 centimeters relative to the subject. Furthermore, the subjects performed three countermovement jumps. Data were analyzed using “KINOVEA” software, version 0.9.5. In this study, players engaged in a 40-minute basketball game, conducted under regulations and including all scheduled rest periods. Results: No significant difference was observed between the pre-test and post-test in the dominant foot initial contact valgus variable (P=0.900), non-dominant foot initial contact valgus variable (P=0.134), dominant foot maximum flexion valgus variable (P=0.237), and non-dominant foot maximum flexion valgus variable (P=0.188), according to the results of the paired t-test for within-group comparison of the study’s mean variables. Furthermore, no statistically significant difference was observed in the first contact valgus between the dominant and non-dominant foot prior to the test (P=0.485) or between the two groups after the test (P=0.066). However, a significant difference was found in the maximum flexion valgus between the dominant and non-dominant foot before the test (P=0.012) and after the test (P=0.018), indicating that the dominant foot had a greater valgus angle than the non-dominant foot in both instances. Conclusion: The current study’s results indicate that functional exhaustion, as employed in this investigation, does not raise the knee valgus angle; however, among basketball players, the dominant foot’s valgus angle was larger than the non-dominant foot. Therefore, the basketball players’ dominant foot is probably more vulnerable to non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

Purpose: One of the most significant contributors to lower extremity degeneration alterations and its effects on balance and sports performance is dynamic knee valgus (DKV) as a faulty movement pattern. Different exercise interventions have been conducted to improve DKV. Extensive research and meta-objective analysis were conducted to assess how exercise interventions affected people with lower extremity functional indicators of DKV. Methods: The electronic databases Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), PubMed, Google Scholar, and Iranian databases SID and Magiran were systematically searched from inception to September 2021. Only full-text articles published in English/Persian peer-reviewed journals that met this study criterion were tracked. Two researchers evaluated the methodological quality of research findings separately, employing the Downs and Black Checklist. After collecting significant data from eligible studies, the results were integrated by applying a random-effects meta-analysis approach. A randomized crossover trial was designed to investigate the influence of muscle activation and strength on functional stability/control of the knee joint, to determine whether bilateral imbalances still occur six months after successful anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), and to analyze whether the use of orthotic devices changes the activity onset of these muscles. Furthermore, conclusions on the feedforward and feedback mechanisms are highlighted. Therefore, twenty-eight patients will take part in a modified Back in Action (BIA) test battery at an average of six months after a primary unilateral ACLR, which used an autologous ipsilateral semitendinosus tendon graft. This includes double-leg and single-leg stability tests, double-leg and single-leg countermovement jumps, double-leg and single-leg drop jumps, a speedy jump test, and a quick feet test. During the tests, gluteus medius and semitendinosus muscle activity are analyzed using surface electromyography (sEMG). Motion analysis is conducted using Microsoft Azure DK and 3D force plates. The tests are performed while wearing knee rigid orthosis, soft brace, and with no aid, in random order. Background and Objectives: Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is one of the faulty lower limb movements that cause increased patellofemoral joint stress and patellofemoral pain (PFP) occurrence. This systematic review investigates the effect of active and passive proximal interventions on DKV in patients with PFP. Methods: An online search was conducted in Cochrane Library, PubMed, Springer, Science Direct, and Scopus databases. The search was limited to the period of 2000 to 2022. The included articles were screened in three stages according to the eligibility criteria. The quality of articles was assessed based on the Downs and Black checklist and was then classified into three categories as follows in terms of quality: High, medium, and low. Results: Overall, 8 articles were included in this systematic review. Four articles were related to hip strengthening exercises, 2 articles to strengthening exercises combined with movement retraining, and 2 articles to brace and strap. In strengthening exercises, 2 articles did not demonstrate a significant effect in reducing DKV. In contrast, 2 articles reported a reduction in DKV after hip strengthening exercises. Two articles of strength training combined with movement retraining reported reductions in DKV. In the passive intervention, only 1 article reported a reduction in DKV. Conclusion: Both active and passive proximal interventions have the potential to modify DKV and can be used in the prevention and treatment of PFP protocols; however, active interventions stimulate proprioception and facilitate muscle recruitment.
