Aim. The aim of the paper is to analyse the extent to which libraries in the Republic of Croatia implement the concept of green libraries and to examine the level of awareness related to green libraries. In addition, the aim is to show examples of good practise, services and activities of libraries in relation to sustainability, to raise awareness among librarians themselves of the problems of environmental protection and to organise programmes and activities in their libraries accordingly. Methodology. The survey was conducted using online questionnaires from March to May 2024 with a sample of 161 respondents. The questionnaire was created in Google Forms and distributed to the e-mail addresses of librarians throughout the Republic of Croatia. The collected data was processed using the SPSS IBM statistical package. The results. The analysis of the questionnaire showed that most respondents were familiar with the concept of a green library. A statistically significant difference was found in the variables of involvement in green library projects and programmes in relation to gender and involvement in sustainability projects in relation to work experience. In addition, there is also a correlation between the promotion of electronic circulation of documents, the use of the cloud to achieve significant energy savings, the use of digital tools for remote working, the use of remote learning platforms and staff interest in green library services. Originality/value. The paper makes a theoretical contribution to the literature on green libraries by highlighting the key sustainable development goals and the role of libraries and librarians in achieving them. The practical contribution is reflected in the examples presented of libraries that are already implementing green activities in their operations through various trainings, projects, activities, programmes and events. Finally, suggestions are made for a more active involvement of librarians in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Libraries in the Republic of Croatia were included in the research in order to obtain representative data that allows for a full interpretation of the topic and concrete and valid conclusions. - Abstract
Objective. Adequate bowel preparation is essential for diagnostic, screening, surveillance, and therapeutic colonoscopy. 3D virtual reality (3D-VR) has the characteristics of depth, interactivity and visuality and is widely used in medicine, so it can be used for patient education and training. The aim of our study is to determine the impact of using 3D virtual reality video for patients education on bowel preparation before colonoscopy. Materials and methods. A prospective, blind, randomized clinical trial was launched at the Republican Vilnius University Hospital (RVUL) on 07.03.2021, which included 50 outpatients who had indications for colonoscopy until 28.02.2022. Patients were randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. The first group was given the bowel preparation information in the standard form used by RVUL – in writing, and the second – in a 3D virtual reality video. The content of the information provided to both groups was the same. The quality of bowel preparation was assessed based on the Boston and Ottawa bowel preparation scales. Results. Of the 50 outpatients who participated in the study, 26 were assigned to the control group, 24 to the study group. The patients of both groups were identical in terms of sex, age, body mass index, comorbidities. The mean (SD) BBPS score was statistically significantly lower in the control group compared to the 3D-VR video group (5.96(±1) vs. 7.58(±1.47); p < 0.001). The mean (SD) scores of OBPS were higher in the control group (6.58(±2.44) than in the study group 1.83(±2.32); p < 0.001). The rate of adequate bowel preparation in the 3DVR video group was higher than in the control group (18(69.23%) vs. 23(95.83%); the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.024)). The rate of terminal ileum intubation in the control group was 50% compared to 83.33% in the 3D-VR video group (p = 0.02).The mean (SD) colonoscopy time was statistically significantly shorter in the 3D-VR video group 23.04(±3.66) minutes and 16.5(±4.28) minutes, p = <0.001. Conclusions. Patients who were informed by 3D-VR method before colonoscopy had statistically significantly better bowel preparation, as well as reduced procedure time and possibly increased detection rates of polyps and adenomas. Introduction: Making good teams are the base of management in general. A multidisciplinary medical team (MDT) is a group of health and care staff who are members of different professions and organizations (e.g. GPs, social workers, nurses), that work together to make decisions regarding the treatment of individual patients and service users. MDTs are engaged in both health and care settings. Methods: In this paper, the authors present information and views from valid professional-scientific sources (papers, books, brochures) about the basic principles and development of teams for medical healthcare that contribute to the development of the implementation of new concepts in health management (MH) for and against teamwork in this areas. Topic: A successful team relies on a well-composed human resource. Each of the member of team added their knowledge and skills to the prescribing process, so that decisions about the best therapy option, for example choice of antibiotics and dosages were made based on more evidence from the medical literature than if they were made by just one person. Clinical pharmacologists will certainly be necessary participants in such teams, be - cause their knowledge of pharmacokinetics, side effects and efficacy of the selected drug is required. For successful personnel management in a team that is able to handle all the challenges and obstacles that multidisciplinary teamwork brings, appropriate education and professional skills of the main manager are required. An example of MDT in a modern therapeutic approach is the collaboration between hospital pharmacology and hospital transfusion. Teamwork has its advantages and disadvantages that a good leader can use or overcome. Conclusion: Multidisciplinary health teams often have the problem of immeasurable in - vestments in order to achieve satisfactory therapeutic results. The formation of multidisciplinary teams in healthcare is a mandatory type of work in a successful healthcare institution. In addition to continuous medical education, it is desirable to introduce education for work in all positions in the health team. The most important goal of MDT is the well-being of the patient, which requires high ethical and professional qualities of the staff. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tikslas. Diagnostinei, atrankinei, stebėjimo ir terapinei (gydomajai) kolonoskopijai atlikti būtina tinkamai paruošti žarnyną. 3D virtualiajai realybei (3D-VR) būdingas gilumas, sąveika ir vaizdingumas, ji plačiai naudojama medicinoje, todėl gali būti taikoma pacientams informuoti ir mokyti. Straipsnyje aptariamo tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti 3D virtualiosios realybės vaizdo naudojimo edukacijai įtaką pacientų žarnynui paruošti prieš atliekant kolonoskopiją. Medžiaga ir metodai. Respublikinėje Vilniaus universitetinėje ligoninėje (RVUL) 2021-03-07 pradėtas perspektyvusis, aklasis, atsitiktinių imčių klinikinis tyrimas. Iki 2022-02-28 į šį tyrimą įtraukta 50 ambulatorinių pacientų, kuriems indikuota atlikti kolonoskopiją. Pacientai atsitiktiniu būdu suskirstyti į kontrolinę ir tiriamąją grupes. Pirmajai grupei informacija apie žarnyno paruošimą suteikta RVUL naudojama standartine forma – raštu, antrajai grupei – 3D virtualiosios realybės vaizdo įrašu. Abiem grupėms teikiamos informacijos turinys buvo vienodas. Žarnyno paruošimo kokybė vertinta remiantis Bostono ir Otavos žarnyno paruošimo skalėmis. Rezultatai. Iš ٥٠ tyrime dalyvavusių ambulatorinių pacientų 26 priskirti kontrolinei, 24 – tiriamajai grupei. Abi grupės buvo tapačios pagal lyties, amžiaus, kūno masės indekso, gretutinių susirgimų rodiklius. Vidutinis (SD) BŽPS balas buvo statistiškai reikšmingai mažesnis kontrolinėje grupėje, palyginti su 3D-VR vaizdo įrašą stebėjusių tiriamųjų grupe (plg.: 5,96(±1) ir 7,58(±1,47); p

- Abstract
Interest in Health Literacy has surged dramatically, evolving from limited publications during the 1990s to a proliferation of research papers in recent years. A significant milestone in understanding Health Literacy was the 2012 HLS-EU survey conducted by Sorensen and colleagues across 8 EU member states, revealing that a substantial 47% of Europeans possess a low level of Health Literacy. In 2016, Miller et al. demonstrated that Health Literacy and patient adherence can be enhanced by up to 22% through improved information, effective communication, and structured education. As a response to this pressing issue, national policies and programs have been drafted to engage various stakeholders – organizations, professionals, policymakers, communities, individuals, and families – in a collaborative effort to enhance health literacy. At Sandoz we decided to start with the basics: to ensure that our patients receive understandable information from a credible source. This is how the idea of Health Dictionaries was born. The Dictionaries have been developed in collaboration with local medical experts for diseases with the highest morbidity and mortality rates. To date, we have printed and digital versions of dictionaries for all the most common diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, various cancers as well as rare diseases where Health Literacy can have a huge impact on patients and treatment outcomes. At Sandoz, we believe that Health Literacy is a lifelong learning project and an extremely important and current topic that requires a lot of dedicated work at all levels. The Health Dictionaries are just the beginning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of this review article is to determine whether the quality of doctorpatient communication and the patient’s health literacy have a significant difference in the health outcomes of patient treatment. There is a clear assumption in the literature that low health literacy and inadequate communication between patients and health professionals leads to inappropriate use of health care, with subsequent worse disease outcomes. Most of the studies reviewed showed a correlation between effective physician-patient communication and improved patient health outcomes Therefore, physicians have a duty to inform patients about how to achieve health and well-being, and patients have the potential to influence the patient-physician relationship to their mutual benefit with the goal of improving health care outcomes. - Abstract
The Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee (CroMSIC) is an association dedicated to improving education and collaboration across the Republic of Croatia. The organization’s activities are carried out through student volunteering. It implements a range of projects focused on prevention and education, including initiatives in public health, human rights, sexual and reproductive health, as well as medical education. Additionally, we conduct student exchange programs that enable students to travel and participate in professional and scientific exchanges worldwide, contributing to the recognition of Croatia and its university on a global scale. CroMSIC, as an association, provides a unique international experience and an opportunity for personal and professional development. Through various projects and initiatives, CroMSIC demonstrates its humanitarian side by assisting children and families in need, while some projects facilitate healthcare in often neglected rural areas. Their dedicated officials also work to raise awareness about various healthcare aspects, including specific topics like cancer prevention and genetics, in collaboration with local communities and experts. CroMSIC drives positive change through cooperation with schools, children’s homes, and local communities. Through its projects, the association aims to enhance the quality of medical education and raise awareness about key public health issues. Our past successes include educating thousands of students and engaging hundreds of student volunteers in projects. The aim of this article is to present the association CroMSIC as well as its goals – to contribute to better health and education in the Republic of Croatia, and to shape future generations of medical experts who will bring positive changes in society. - Abstract
HeMED is the acronym for “Croatian electronic medical education” (cro. Hrvatska elektronička medicinska edukacija), which represents the contemporary tehnological solution in the Croatian language for medical profesionals and patients provided on web pages and mobile applications. Inspired by Željko Ivančević, MD, the project was sucessfuly launched and finished with help of the CMC (Croatian medical chamber) and If! (Inovativna framaceutska inicijativa). The aims of HeMED are to encourage citizens’ health literacy, provide students with contemporary literature in the Croatian language, and support doctors in their daily work. On the pages of hemed.hr important international textbooks and an always up-to-date drug database are translated for medical professionals and the public. The editions available for searching and reading are: MSD Handbook for Patients (2019), MSD Handbook for Professionals (2018), MSD Handbook of Disease Symptoms (2010), Pharmacogenetics in Clinical Practice (2021), Harrison: Principles of Internal Medicine of Medicine (pocket manual) (2019) and Harrison: Principles of Internal Medicine (textbook) (2013). All the mentioned editions are connected to the drug database, which is regularly updated. When reading the text, each drug that is listed can be opened directly in the drug database, also by viewing the drug you can see all texts that have that drug in it. Hemed.hr is used daily by 6,000 users with a growing tendency. In the future, we plan to update all translations with the latest editions and include other important editions on hemed.hr. In conclusion, HeMED is the result of the volunteer work of about 400 medical doctors of all specialties and all age groups who diligently translated about 20,000 pages of medical literature to help their colleagues and patients. - Abstract
“The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease”, the famous writer and philosopher Voltaire once said. In order to heal patients, the key is to educate future medical doctors who will be capable of integrating different aspects of medicine and education. Accordingly, the main vision of the Faculty of Medicine Rijeka is internationalization as one of the most powerful ways to create a world without borders, a world where medicine knows no frontiers. With its scientific, professional, and general intellectual capacity, based on tradition and continuous development, the Faculty of Medicine Rijeka is an important factor on the biomedical map worldwide. We widely open new doors of cooperation and partnership with the international academic community by promoting the input and output of scientific and educational mobility and rapid flow of information, education, and ideas. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and encourage future physicians to create a better and healthier world focused on humanity and altruism. Internationalization is a bridge that connects people to the world of science and education. Since the academic year 2017/2018, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Rijeka introduced the University integrated undergraduate and graduate study program of Medicine in English. Today we count more than 250 students from different parts of the world, including many European countries, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Africa, Brazil, the Middle East, and many others, who study together and grow as a unique part of the educational process, constantly expanding our horizons and international visibility. SMART devices , *ATRIAL fibrillation , *EDUCATIONAL attainment , *HIGHER education , *ARRHYTHMIA - Abstract
The main objective of this review was to investigate whether educational attainment has an impact on the occurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) as well as the implementation of smart technology to detect this condition. Data on the relationship between education level and the occurrence of AF were collected, as well as data on smart devices for detecting AF. A lower level of education has been linked to an increased risk of AF. With this in mind, it is easy to explain the clear correlation between education level and AF, as well as the adoption of smart device detection and how it may improve illness prognosis. People with a higher level of education understand and embrace the notion of employing smart devices to detect and prevent AF; they also have decreased AF prevalence compared with those with a lower level of education. INFORMATION technology , *COVID-19 pandemic , *INFORMATION & communication technologies , *COMMUNICATIVE competence , *VIRTUAL reality , *OLDER people , *SOCIAL networks - Abstract
Goal. The aim of this paper is to determine the attitudes and opinions of the members of the Pensioners' Club of the city of Osijek after the education was carried out with the aim of training them in information and communication skills. Methodology. The paper presents the results of the research conducted through interviews and focus groups among retirees, the members of the Osijek Retirees' Club. The research examined the attitudes and opinions of 10 pensioners on the topic of education in terms of information and communication technologies during March 2022 using the interview method. After the interviews, the attitudes and opinions of the retirees related to the use of technology were examined in a focus group (1) in which 9 retirees participated (some of whom attended the education, some of whom did not). Finally, a focus group (2) in which 4 retirees participated examined their attitudes and opinions about virtual reality. The respondents wore VR glasses and observed the history of Osijek in the period from 1920 to 2020 by decades. More specifically, they observed how objects, houses, newspapers, furniture and similar things covered in the mentioned period looked. The paper presents the attitudes and opinions of the participants of the workshops, and is a continuation of the previous research, conducted before this training (Jakopec, Selthofer and Hocenski, 2022). Results. The results of the conducted interviews and focus groups indicate that the majority of retirees share the desire for learning and acquiring additional IT knowledge. They own at least one device (mostly a desktop computer or a smartphone) through which they visit social networks, search for necessary information and read the daily news. The respondents who participated in the research believe that they need more similar workshops in order to establish and expand their existing knowledge. After the workshops, the pensioners stated that they are fully aware of the advantages that IT knowledge brings them, and they relate this knowledge to the use of technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, when physically going to certain places (for example, to the doctor) was not possible. The results of the second focus group in which 3D reality was observed using VR glasses have shown that the respondents were not previously familiar with the concepts of virtual reality. According to the participants, the workshop lasted too short, they felt disoriented, and the glasses did not impress them too much. They also pointed out that they wore them for too short a time to highlight something as an advantage, they did not remember much of the presented content, but they found it interesting. Most of them stated that they would like to repeat the experience, but with better instructions and extended time of wearing glasses. Limitations. The research sample is limited to a specific subgroup of the retired members of the Club, and is therefore not representative of the entire population of retired people in the city of Osijek and in the Republic of Croatia. Value. The results of the research indicate the attitudes and opinions of people of the third age towards education in the field of information and communication technologies and virtual reality. The results of the research contribute to the implementation of the "Active pension" project. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Gestational diabetes is diabetes diagnosed in the second or third trimester of pregnancy that is not overt diabetes and is a growing public health problem. About 21.1 million women (16.7%) have some form of hyperglycemia during pregnancy, of which 80.3% include gestational diabetes, 10.6% previously known type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and 9.1% diabetes type 1 and type 2 diagnosed during pregnancy. Medical nutritional therapy, together with physical activity and regular or frequent glycemia self-checks, is the basis of treatment of gestational diabetes with the aim of preventing complications for both mother and child. Research shows that plant-based diet can contribute to both prevention and treatment of gestational diabetes, through the effect of reducing gastric emptying, improving insulin sensitivity and increasing insulin secretion. Since pregnant women with gestational diabetes have elevated indicators of oxidative stress and inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6 and CRP), the pronounced benefits of this type of diet are richness of antioxidants and immunomodulatory effects. High content of dietary fiber, low glycemic index and high proportion of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to saturated ones are additional benefits of this diet. The Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and olive oil, is a dietary pattern that includes all of the above, and the key to its effectiveness is the synergy, the joint interaction between several different components. - Abstract
Ovakav pristup edukaciji je ilustrovan prikazom procesa i rezultata rada na predmetu StudioM01U„Ekološki urbani dizajn“ Univerziteta u Beogradu-Arhitektonskog fakulteta, Enhancing the sustainability and resilience of cities requires a shift in the approach to planning and designing urban spaces. An ecological perspective is essential in achieving this, yet it is often narrowly applied, focusing solely on "greening" objects and spaces. This fails to fully harness the potential of the relationship between urban design and ecology, which is crucial for addressing specific development challenges and the unique characteristics of each urban context. This lecture addresses the knowledge and skills required to effectively apply an ecological approach to urban design. It aims to introduce and discuss the basic concepts of ecological urbanism, as well as different approaches and thematic areas for integrating ecological considerations into the design of urban space. This broad understanding is essential for informed and effective action. On this basis, the ecological approach to architectural and planning education is established, which not only cultivates technical expertise but also helps students develop their ecological thinking and literacy. The working process and outcomes of the Studio M01U „Ecological Urban Design“ course at the UB Faculty of Architecture illustrate this educational approach

In Croatia, malaria was eradicated in 1964 and has since been imported, ten cases a year in average, mostly by Croatian migrant workers, seafarers in particular. About 80 % of registered cases were infected in Africa and the main reason for infection was negligence in the use of chemoprophylaxis. The aim of the study was to establish the incidence of malaria among Croatian seafarers from 2004 to 2014, how many of them took chemoprophylaxis properly, and whether malaria was acknowledged as occupational disease. To get our answers we analysed epidemiological surveys of the Croatian Institute of Public Health completed by patients and reviewed epidemiological bulletins and the national Register of Occupational Diseases. Over the investigated period, a total of 102 people fell ill with malaria, of whom 25 were seafarers. Seventeen did not take chemoprophylaxis at all and eight took them without following instructions. In addition, none of them had malaria recognised as occupational disease under Croatian law, nor is there any information that they exercised their rights in any other way. All this clearly points out that seafarers and their employers need to be informed much better about the benefits of preventive measures and their labour rights.

COMMUNITY health workers , *MEDICAL personnel , *PERSONAL protective equipment , *MEDICAL education , *COVID-19 , *PANDEMICS - Abstract
The danger of the COVID-19 infectious disease epidemic was declared by the Ministry of Health in March 2020 for the entire territory of Croatia. Working in healthcare during the pandemic has put healthcare workers at increased stress and risk of infection. Healthcare workers must use additional personal protective equipment (PPE) during a pandemic to protect themselves from infection. The aim of the research was to find out the attitudes of health care workers in primary health care about the need for additional education on the proper use of personal protective equipment. The survey was conducted from October 2020 to January 2021. Responses were collected through an online questionnaire. Notice of the study was sent to healthcare professionals by e-mail through healthcare professional societies. The questionnaire was completed by 184 health professionals. The largest group of subjects were physicians (N = 146; 79.3%). Additional jobs due to COVID-19 disease were performed by 110 (59.8%) respondents. Additional tasks included work on triage, on-call duty at COVID dispensaries, swabbing, examination of patients with a positive SARS-CoV-2 test, telephone on-call and patient information, and taking an epidemiological history as well as imposing self-isolation measures. Only 71 respondents (38.6%) had education on personal protective equipment during training for their current occupation, of which 27 answered that this acquired knowledge was enough for them to work safely during the epidemic. The majority of respondents (90%) believe that they need additional education on personal protective equipment. Based on the results, it can be concluded that education is needed both during regular education and through continuous medical education through professional societies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Uvod: Najadekvatnija, ekonomski najopravdanija, a po mnogim autorima i prva metoda izbora u rehabilitaciji govora totalno laringektomisanih pacijenata jeste korišćenje ezofagusnog glasa i govora. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
