- Abstract
Objectives: To know the self-perceived health, lifestyle, functional capacity and relationship between them, in a group of older adults from a rural primary healthcare center. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study. The participants filled out a questionnaire made up of sociodemographic, clinical, socio-family support data, linked to COVID-19 and 5 scales: MEDAS-1, RAPA, Barthel, SARC-F and SF-36. The variables were analyzed through hypothesis contrasts and Pearson's coefficient, considering statistical significance with p<0.05. Results: The sample consisted of 142 older adults, with an average age of 75.85 years. Most of them were married, had primary education, were not caregivers, did not have toxic habits, were polymedicated, took psychotropic drugs, and were not afraid of COVID-19. The sample had a normal weight overall, 48.6% demonstrated high adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MD), 35.9% were moderately active, 54.9% indicated independence for basic activities of daily living (BADL), and 75.4% showed low risk of sarcopenia. The sample's perception of health was lower in most of the SF-36 subscales analyzed than that of the reference population, being lower in women and with increasing age. Older adults with low adherence to MD, sedentary, dependent, and with sarcopenia showed a lower perception of health. Participants with low adherence to the MD were more sedentary and those who were more dependent had a higher risk of sarcopenia. Conclusions: an inadequate lifestyle and functional limitation significantly reduce the self-perception of health, requiring intervention to correct them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article aims to describe the design and validation process of food guideline messages written in the braille reading and writing system for people with visual impairment. The process involved the following stages: i) design and elaboration of the material containing the food guideline messages, as well as its adaptation to the format; ii) technical validation with representatives of the National Council for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (CONADIS); and iii) operational validation through focus groups with children, adolescents and adults with visual disabilities who can read braille. The participants agreed on the legibility, clarity and comprehension of the messages and approved the format of the material. Finally, it should be noted that the participation of key informants and people with visual impairment in all stages was important for the development of an informative material with healthy eating messages in braille. Introduction: This article is an important contribution to the application of Callista Roy's Adaptation Model to groups. Objective: To promote adaptive behaviors through primary health care strategies for a group of chronically ill older adults living in a municipality in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. Materials and methods: A qualitative participatory action research approach was used. A nurse used participant observation and characterized the community; besides, with exploratory questions, the nurse enabled them to identify their problems and suggest strategies for improvement, including for their own health. Subsequently, the nursing care process was applied. Results: Group behavior was assessed through the following modes of adaptation: physiologic adaptation, selfconcept or group identity, role-function adaptation or unit of social functioning and social integrity, and interdependence adaptation or social context in which the group functions. Discussion: Applying Roy's model in practice makes it possible to identify negative situations in groups, promote innovative coping processes, and control environmental stimuli in a community. Assessment skills must be sharp, as they are key to applying Roy's model to community practice. Conclusions: The stimuli that trigger the main adaptation problems were identified, and a nursing care plan was implemented developing adaptation strategies, such as home visits, intergenerational meetings, community participation with support groups created by the municipality, and health education, to promote group adaptation. Objective: To determine some life style and eating habits in a group of university students. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional-descriptive study was carried out, with a field design. The entire population of young people aspiring to enter the Central University of Venezuela through the Samuel Robinson Program was evaluated, corresponding to the cohorts - IX, X, XI, XIII, XIV, XV-, during the years 2007-2014 (265 individuals in total). To collect the data, the structured interview technique was applied as an instrument based on a pre-designed guide of open and closed questions. Results: This sample was characterized by having lifestyle habits with little physical activity (63.8%) and consumption of alcoholic beverages (80.8%) in both genders, a high consumption of soft drinks (>80%) and food fast (>90%). The students ate three meals a day and snacks in both the morning and afternoon (>70%). The university dining room was the space where the majority went to eat lunch, between 56% of women and 70% of men. Conclusions: The students of the Samuel Robinson Program (UCV), between 2007 and 2014, presented unhealthy eating and living habits, so healthy lifestyles must be strengthened and improved for the good performance of the university student, to reduce academic dropout, correct study habits and improve eating habits. Objective: To determine the psychometric properties of the Scale of Healthy Lifestyles for University Students (EEVSEU) for male and female university students in Mexico. Materials and methods: Validity evidence regarding the structure and measurement invariance of the EEVSEU was evaluated by confirmatory factor analysis. Initially, two models were evaluated: the original model (8 dimensions) and the model obtained in Mexican women (4 dimensions). The magnitude of the factorial loads of each item (=0.50) and the reliability of the scores and the construct of the models were determined through the alpha and omega coefficients. Finally, the association between healthy lifestyles and psychological well-being and self-regulation of eating habits was analysed. Results: After the initial analyses, a new model was constructed with 7 dimensions of the EEVSEU (exercise, regular behaviour, nutritional behaviour, health responsibility, social support, stress management and appreciation for life) (M3). It evidenced adequate factorial parameters (adjustment indices and factorial loads), was invariant between men and women and significantly associated with the self-regulation of eating habits and psychological well-being. Conclusions: The EEVSEU has adequate psychometric properties for its application in studies involving male and female university students in Mexico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRANSITION to adulthood , *SEDENTARY behavior , *LITERATURE reviews , *COLLEGE environment , *PHYSICAL activity - Abstract
This article examines the impact of healthy lifestyle habits in the university environment on community health and well-being during the transition from adolescence to early adulthood. Through a comprehensive literature review from 2017, which included 34 articles, four main themes were identified: physical activity, diet, sedentary behavior, and technological recreation. Although most studies adopted a descriptive, cross-sectional, and qualitative approach, they highlighted internal and external factors influencing the promotion of healthy habits. However, despite acknowledging the need to mitigate risks associated with unhealthy practices, the emphasis is placed on the importance of integrating health promotion into university culture, institutional policies, and curricula.

Introduction: The school population represents a fundamental group for health promotion actions, given that the foundations of healthy behaviors in adult life are established in children and adolescents, who can be greatly influenced by the school. Objective: To describe the health-related behavioral factors of schoolchildren between 13 and 17 years of age in secondary and middle school in Colombia. Methods: A national cross-sectional study was conducted (i.e., School Health Survey -ENSE-) that recorded information on dietary practices, physical activity, alcohol and drug consumption, injuries and bullying, and oral, visual and hearing health. Sampling was probabilistic, cluster and multistage. Results: Schoolchildren have low consumption of fruits, vegetables (13.1%) and dairy (76.5 %), high consumption of ultra-processed foods (82.4 %), sugary drinks (74.0 %) and fast foods (14.8 %), frequent addition of salt at the table (43.3 %), low compliance with physical activity recommendations (15.0 %) and high sedentary lifestyle (46.3 %), frequent consumption of alcohol (44.7 %) and psychoactive substances (14.7 %), in addition to prevalent situations of bullying (15.4 %), rejection (8.2 %) and verbal aggression (42.7 %).Conclusions: The ENSE shows critical inequalities by gender, ethnicity and social class, throughout the country. The indicators observed in schoolchildren are precursors of various chronic and degenerative diseases and mental illness, which requires the urgent attention of the different social actors in the country [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Food and physical activity are part of the habits and behaviors that allow to achieve well-being and improve health. These habits are influenced by personal, environmental and social factors. Objective: To identify the diet and physical activity in students of face-to-face modality of a public University of Cartagena. Method: the 1,292 students were selected by stratified probabilistic sampling, using the virtual "Survey of Health Risk Factors Related to Lifestyle" of the Colombian National Institute of Health. Results: The results indicate that the female sex predominated in the population, affiliated to the subsidized regime in socioeconomic stratum 1 and 2; enrolled in the nursing, engineering, human sciences and economic sciences mainly. As for food, it was found that the majority ate whole fruits and vegetables, but the consumption of fried foods, packaged/candy foods, sugary drinks, and the addition of salt to already served meals is high. Conclusions: The students have poor healthy diets and do physical activity a few days a week. It is necessary to promote institutional strategies to strengthen healthy habits by creating spaces that promote and maximize the health of the student population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk factors information is scarce regarding youth and adults of Latin-American ethnics. Objective: the primary aim was to describe the lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk factors for arterial hypertension (HTN) and diabetes in ethnic Latin-American groups (Mapuche and Aymara) and other non-ethnics > 15 years of age in the Chilean population. A secondary aim was to determine the association between physical activity 'intensity' with HTN and diabetes markers. Material and methods: a representative sample from the National Chilean Health Survey 2016-2017, included Mapuche (EG-Map; women n = 166, men n = 300; total n = 466), Aymara (EG-Aym; women n = 96, men n = 55; total n = 151), and a non-ethnic population group (No-EG; women n = 2057, men n = 3445; total n = 5502). The main outcomes were; systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting plasma glucose (GL), and secondary outcomes were other anthropometric, lipid profile, and lifestyle parameters. Results: GL was significantly associated with nutrition (0.9 %, p < 0.0001), tobacco and alcohol habits (0.6 %, p < 0.0001). SBP was significantly associated with nutrition (whole-grains 0.04, p = 0.001; water consumption 0.07, p < 0.0001), sleep hygiene (week 0.04, p = 0.030; on weekends -0.04, p = 0.026), and alcohol consumption (-0.06, p < 0.0001). Conclusion: in conclusion, lifestyle differences among Mapuche and Aymara ethnic groups in comparison with non-ethnic Chilean peers > 15 years are significantly associated with blood pressure and glycemia.
