RENTAL housing , *PROPERTY rights , *OCCUPANCY rates , *SHARING economy , *PUBLIC housing - Abstract
This paper sheds new light on informal-formal renting through the integration of paying rent to families within a 'modes' of renting typology framework. While private rental housing has long comprised a mix of informal and formal practices dualistic conceptions of informality and formality are being challenged as housing research explores emergent family and sharing economies alongside financialized and rentier economies. Well-used concepts of property rights and tenure or de jure occupancy are expanded to incorporate more nuanced measures of de facto occupancy, particularly relating to the family economy in which we argue represents a form of diffuse informality not well captured in national data collections based on tenure alone. Applying this conceptualisation within an Australian survey of more than 2,870 individual renters within the informal-formal market, we find that informal renting within families is pervasive. Our findings are suggestive of structural changes where a sizable cohort of discouraged and tactical renters are locked out of or bypassing mainstream rental markets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This qualitative case study examines the decision-making process of a family that experienced a natural disaster in Palu. The participants of the study were Mr. FP, the head of the family, and his wife, Mrs. VP. Primary data was collected through in-depth interviews with FP and VP conducted by relatives who witnessed the family's gradual recovery. Additionally, supporting data was gathered through data mining, including pre -and post-disaster photographs. The family, like many others, faced an unpredictable and devastating event that not only resulted in the loss of their main source of livelihood but also inflicted deep trauma. The study aimed to delve into this family's experiences when confronted with an unexpected disaster, exploring the impact they faced, the recovery process they undertook, and the factors influencing their decision-making, with particular emphasis on the head of the family. The head of the family played a vital role in family dynamics, making their decision-making process of great importance. The primary objective of this research was to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of family members, particularly the head of the family, as they navigate the challenges of post-disaster recovery, specifically focusing on decision-making in economics and finances. By comprehending their experiences and decisions, the study sought to shed light on how families can rebuild their lives, particularly in terms of achieving economic and financial stability. Narrative analysis was employed in this study, as it allowed for an exploration of the experiences and decision-making of natural disaster survivors in a subjective and unrestrictive manner. This analysis enabled the capturing of the narratives shared by Mr. FP and Mrs. VP, the main informants, and facilitated the interpretation of supporting documents. Consequently, the collected data yielded rich and in-depth insights, further strengthening the findings of this research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MARRIAGE ,FAMILIES ,HOUSEKEEPING ,HOUSEHOLDS - Abstract
Dowry is considered one of the requirements for marriage. It is a form of commitment and appreciation from the husband in building a household, which means that a larger dowry payment signifies the seriousness of the husband in building a household and honouring the wife. However, marriages with very little and often very trivial items given in dowry are also observed. These unions have been criticised as demeaning for the dignity of women, with some people even challenging their legal validity. This article analyses the changing meaning of dowry from the early period of Islam to the modern era based on the perspective of family economics. It uncovers that the concept of dowry has constantly evolved from the period of jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic Arabia before the advent of Islam in 609 CE) to contemporary times. The interpretation of dowry became more rigid and inflexible during the classical age of fiqh (jurisprudence). However, classical interpretation still carries the message that dowry must be beneficial to the wife in the way to create a marital tie based on mutual respect and equality. Additionally, dowry in the modern context is also considered one of the wasilah (means) to realise the maqasid (objectives) of marriage, namely sakinah (tranquillity). It is, therefore, necessary to consider these values when determining the type and amount of dowry and for better understanding of its appropriate function as a wasilah mawashid al-nikah (means of realising benefits of marriage). This research endeavors to examine the contribution of homemakers in enhancing their family's financial status by utilizing oil palm sticks. Currently, at PT Buana Wiralestari Naga Mas Div 2/3, the sticks from oil palm fronds are treated as waste, thus tarnishing the cleanliness of the oil palm plantation. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, data collection involves structured interviews with predetermined questions, direct observation of the phenomenon in the field, and documentation. The findings reveal that oil palm plantations serve as the primary source of employment and income for residents of Pt. Wira Lestari Mas division 2/3. However, the replanting process affects income, prompting many homemakers to seek additional earnings by selling sticks or converting palm frond waste into economically valuable products like broomsticks. This initiative not only yields economic benefits but also contributes to social welfare by offering useful products and enhancing environmental cleanliness. Nevertheless, fluctuating stick prices and obstacles such as the rainy season, festive occasions, and inadequate support from local authorities and PT regulations impede homemakers' endeavors in stick utilization. This underscores the significant role of homemakers in household and local economic advancement, emphasizing the importance of price stability and support from the government and community for sustained economic well-being. The purpose of this study was to analyze midwifery practice in the Mazahua and Otomi (MO) indigenous community and its relationship with the persistence of the native language and the use of medicinal plants. A semi-structured survey with qualitative and quantitative information was designed and validated. Data were collected from the students enrolled in the Intercultural Health Degree at the Intercultural University of the State of Mexico, their parents, their grandparents, and people from their community of the MO ethnic group. The variables mother tongue and births attended by midwives among both MO and non-indigenous people were correlated with three generations (grandparents, parents, and grandchildren). In the MO indigenous group, births attended by midwives and mother tongue concerning the three generations were lost in proportions of 25.5% and 17.05%, respectively. There are 23% more midwife-attended births in the MO community than among non-ethnic people. The medicinal plants most used by the MO indigenous group are "too" (Montanoa tomentosa Cerv.) and "lengua de vaca" (Rumex crispus L.). As regards family economy, 79.3% of the adults surveyed consider that there is a saving of between 25% and 75% with midwifery practice in the MO community. There is a generational correspondence between the loss of native language and midwifery practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When interested in historical wages, historians have typically paid much attention to the rate at which individuals were paid (either by the piece or by the day). They have devoted less consideration to how much these individuals worked over the course of the year and the degree to which their earnings varied. This thesis uses the highly detailed records of work and earning from three collieries between 1852 and 1856 (two in the north-east of England and one in south Wales) to quantitatively examine these factors. By reconstructing the employment histories of men and boys working in these mines, the thesis is able to investigate how earnings varied over the course of the year, as well as between individuals. It demonstrates that earnings were varied and unstable, which ultimately resulted in workers adopting income smoothing techniques (such as the use of credit or income sharing). The thesis also considers the driving factors behind this instability by analysing the influence of work availability and productivity on the earnings of those employed. Finally, the thesis reallocates attention from the consideration of adult male workers alone, to the family as an economic unit. It demonstrates how children interacted with the family income pool, and the consequences of this from an economic perspective. The thesis therefore demonstrates the importance of a holistic and multifaceted approach to investigating employment in order to understand historical work and earnings.

Objective: To analize the contribution of women to the family's economy through their experiences and agricultural sales strategies at Pedernal, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Methodology: Qualitative research of ethnographic nature was carried out by applying semistructured interviews to women and participant observation. Results: Family agriculture in Pedernal provides food for self-consumption and monetary income through the sale of surplus mainly obtained from backyards managed by women. They sell different products at a regional scale of which we highlight avocado fruits and pigs (piglets); for both products they have got contrasting and complementary sales strategies inside and outside the locality, addressed to obtain the highest possible profit and to minimize the risk of loss. However, prices neither meet production costs nor consider women's care work. Limitations: The exploratory and qualitative nature of this research does not allow to deepen aspects such as the quantification of investments, returns, and the value of care work. Conclusions: The sale of women's agricultural and livestock production generates an additional income to meet daily subsistence needs, and contributes to diversity of regional creole varieties. As an emerging science, family economy describes the family based on market exchanges. Its new explanation has caused the family to be governed by a rational order that destroys the individual and family relations. The criteria developed to measure the family economy are rooted in human capital and focus only on the material aspects of the family, while the family as a natural and fitrah-based institution is of a completely different nature from economic enterprises. Therefore, it is necessary to design scales based on Islamic principles and for the comprehensive growth of the family. The purpose of this study is to construct and validate a family economic questionnaire based on the theory of "Gradational family economics”. This theory provides a real and rational explanation of different families’ behavior in matters dealing, somehow, with a kind of economic motivation. It has presented its findings according to which families are fuzzily ranked, based on their degree of growth, into ten categories: enemy, irrational, natural, exploitative, collaborative, cooperative, fair, benevolent, sacrificing, and transcendent. This research has used the directed qualitative content analysis method to extract the family economy evaluation indicators, and conducted a survey on 387 households in Tehran. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis have shown that the data fit well with the factor structure and theoretical basis of the research, and the Cronbach’s alpha, structural reliability, discriminant validity and convergent validity criteria were confirmed as well. Thus, this questionnaire has the desired validity and reliability

This study aims to describe and analyze the Dairy Farmer Development Program through empowerment and analyze the factors that encourage and hinder the Dairy Farmer Development Program through empowerment in Slamparejo Village, Jabung District, Malang Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach. In the process of data analysis techniques used in this study is an analysis that uses an interactive model consisting of reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This economic improvement is driven by the many benefits that come from being a member of a dairy farmer group under the guidance of the "Waskita Dharma" Education and Social Foundation, Among these are getting a "maintenance" of 1 lactating or production dairy cow with a minimum of 10 to 15 liters of milk per day, a savings and loan program, a livestock health program and the purchase of concentrate feed with a milk deposit discount system. Enthusiastic community participation can be seen from the activity meetings held at the "Waskita Dharma" Social Education Foundation. Viewed from the aspect of independence, it can be seen that the community takes action, confidence, and creativity so that they are able to overcome the problems they face related to dairy farming and an increase in family income. The driving factors for the creation of a dairy farming development program in community empowerment are influenced by concern and cooperation, creativity, satisfaction, change of consciousness and belief. This can be seen from the Foundation's concern in meeting the needs of dairy farmers and the synergistic collaboration between the Foundation and dairy farmers, the creativity of dairy farmers in raising dairy cattle, cattle farmers are satisfied because the results have increased, thus changing awareness of patterns thought the cattle farmer and had high self-confidence. The inhibiting factors of the dairy farming development program in community empowerment are influenced by low concern and cooperation from cattle breeders, lack of creativity, low satisfaction, no change in awareness for the better and low self-confidence. Gender discrimination continues to exist in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, with women often placed in the role of mother and housekeeper. In areas such as Bobung Village, where they form an integral part of the local industry, women transcend these roles to contribute to the economy. This research aimed to examine women's roles in adding to the artistic value of wooden crafts, their impact on increasing family income, and local community members’ views towards these female roles. The research was socio-anthropological, with data obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and content analyses of documents and records. Data were analyzed using an interactive model including data collection, reduction of presentation, and verification. The findings showed that (1) women play a significant role in improving the artistic value of wooden crafts through their batik painting and writing techniques. They make these crafts appear more exotic, and help to preserve traditional batik motifs. (2) With the addition of these women’s motifs to wooden crafts, they add to their family income while still performing their domestic duties, such as caring for their children and cooking. Their wages are based on a daily system, collective system, or combination of both. (3) Batik-making on wooden crafts has feminine characteristics; it is soft and light, as opposed to woodworking’s masculine characteristics of hard, physical work. Women’s batik-making is consequently complementary to the work performed by men. According to the local people, there is no gender bias related to the job differentiation between men and women.

- Abstract
Objective - Women with careers nowadays play an important role in their household income to support breadwinner husbands in easing the financial burden of families. To achieve the role, women are empowered to be independent and not too dependent on others by handing over the duty to generate a family income solely to their husbands. With low physical, financial, and human capital, and limited social and economic networks in Pulau Tuba, Langkawi, when the socio-economy activities of its majority Muslim population depend on agriculture, aquaculture, and tourism, the activities should be expanded to potential activities to increase family income since the island is well known with its natural resources. Women on the island also identify less participate in increasing the family income. Thus, this study aims to identify the potential activities for family income upgrading and determine factors for women's empowerment to support family income and the success of the activities. Methodology - To achieve the objective the study adopts quantitative research where the data were collected through a survey to randomly selected 150 respondents out of 4350 Pulau Tuba total population. The questionnaires are distributed to respondents through face to face by the representatives of the research team in November 2020. The collected data has been analyzed by descriptive, correlation, and regression analysis using Statistical Package for The Social Science (SPPS) tool version 21. Findings - The finding shows that women in Pulau Tuba are more inclined to increase their daily and family income in marketing, sales, livestock, and fisheries. Moving on, the environmental factor is the most effective because of its higher correlation value than the family factor and environmental factors that contribute significantly to improving family income in Pulau Tuba. Therefore, it is suggested to put effort to enhance awareness among women through appropriate workshops on marketing with large-scale participation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the goals of a country is to prosper its people including people with disabilities. The welfare of persons with disabilities can be achieved through increased independence, the educational process, and patterns of care for people with disabilities. The education process and the burden of care to realize the independence of persons with disabilities are influenced by the level of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, and community environment. This study aims to 1) analyze the level of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, and community environment towards the burden of childcare; 2) analyze the level of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, community environment, and the burden of child care for children's education; and 3) analyze the level of disability, family economics, family environment, school environment, community environment, the burden of care, and education of children towards the independence of persons with disabilities; 4) analyze whether the burden of care mediates the effect of variable levels of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, community environment on the education of children with disabilities; and 5) analyze whether the education of children with disabilities mediates the effects of variable levels of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, community environment on the independence of persons with disabilities in the Province of Bali. This study was designed using quantitative methods with 177 respondents with disabilities taken by probability sampling with proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. The analytical model used is Partial Least Square (PLS) with Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that: 1) variables of the level of disability, family economy, family environment, and school environment directly had a positive and significant effect on the burden of caregiving and only the community environment had a direct but not significant effect on the burden of care; 2) variables of the level of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, and community environment directly have a positive and significant effect on the education of children with disabilities and the independence of persons with disabilities; 3) the burden of care mediates the influence of the level of disability, family economy, family environment, and school environment significantly on the education of children with disabilities. While the influence of the community environment on the education of children with disabilities through the burden of caregiving as a mediating variable has no significant effect; 4) education of children with disabilities mediates the influence of the level of disability, family economy, family environment, school environment, and community environment significantly on the independence of persons with disabilities in the province of Bali. Based on the results of this study, it is hoped that the government, NGOs and social organizations to encourage increased access and quality of education for children with disabilities, skills training and empowerment of persons with disabilities to foster independence and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities.

Public waste-management systems in Latin American cities are defective. However, waste-pickers take advantage of this situation and create small family-based waste-processing units. However, little is known about how these families constantly meet their needs, manage suffering or even overcome poverty. How do they get to survive in such a context? This paper presents the classic grounded theory of resourcing from close relationships, based on a secondary analysis of data produced during 2009-2011 by a grass-roots NGO. The core category of managing support systems explains how a family constantly approaches or wards off towards an ideal work system through anchoring motivations and system adjusting. The resulting actual system, however, creates pains. They have to be resolved through tolerating dependency and negotiating against deviance, which is what finally allows the family to adapt or thrive to changing economic environments.

- Abstract
Objective: To analize the contribution of women to the family’s economy through their experiences and agricultural sales strategies at Pedernal, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Methodology: Qualitative research of ethnographic nature was carried out by applying semi-structured interviews to women and participant observation. However, prices neither meet production costs nor consider women’s care work. Limitations: The exploratory and qualitative nature of this research does not allow to deepen aspects such as the quantification of investments, returns, and the value of care work. Conclusions: The sale of women's agricultural and livestock production generates an additional income to meet daily subsistence needs, and contributes to diversity of regional creole varieties., Objetivo: analizar la contribución de las mujeres a la economía familiar a través de sus experiencias y estrategias de venta agropecuaria en Pedernal, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

Research on joint decision-making processes in households is particularly relevant for marketing, especially for understanding who decides what to buy in purchasing decisions and how decision processes evolve. However, the investigation of such complex processes requires adequate research methods to account for the dynamics in close relationships. We provide a critical overview of past research in the arena of economic decision-making among couples, concentrating on methodological issues. After describing different types of decisions we proceed by describing findings on interaction dynamics, including the nature and occurrence of conflicts. In reviewing relationship structures we focus on the dimensions of harmony and power. The descriptive process model utilized includes the partners’ use of influence tactics, as well as the emergence of utility debts at the end of a decision-making process. Reviewing the adequacy of various research methods, observational and survey techniques are discussed as conventional psychological research methods. The Vienna Partner Diary is introduced as novel method and suggested as being useful for collecting data on the complex interaction processes in the everyday life of couples.

- Abstract
The objective of this article is the diagnosis in the energetic-economic plane of the insertion of the photovoltaic cells in houses of moderately high income. The use of voltaic cells in this sector of society is due to the high consumption of electrical energy largely due to the high temperatures. In this sense, users frequently suffer reclassification of energy consumption rates (Residential Rate 850 kWh / month, 1C to Residential Rate of high consumption greater than 850 kWh / month, DAC) by the Federal Electricity Commission, paying more for the service. Thus, the study of the diagnosis focuses on the measurement of the performance of solar panels and the breakdown of the phenomenon of energy savings by time cycles, where the human factor (subjective: fuzzy) affects the performance, consumption and production of clean technology. This article explores the family organization of work in small-scale dairy farms in Mexico. By drawing attention to the division of labour by sex, the paper explores how gender norms and tradition interplay with economic interests of profitability in defining who is able and accountable to perform each task. The article builds on ethnographic research in family dairy farms in Los Altos de Jalisco (Jalisco Highlands), Mexico. Based on qualitative data collected by in-depth interviews, focus groups and observation, the analysis focused on the division of labour by sex and age in the dairy, the fields, and the house. Findings suggest that family well-being emerges as a significant criterion in the allocation of tasks. The production of goods and services and the production of life convey in a unified process that overlap functions of the farm, containing productive activities, and the house, as the realm of the reproduction of life. Welfare emerges as a legitimate element for the analysis of the family economy, downplaying profit maximization and self-interest as the sole elements in decision making.

Mangroves are ecosystems in coastal areas that have important ecological and economic benefits derived from leaves, seeds and fruit. One of the coastal areas that contains mangrove forests is Bajo Village, Tilamuta District, Bualemo Regency, Gorontalo Province which is included in the Tomini Bay marine area which is the heart of the socio-economic life of the local community. Not many coastal communities know that mangroves contain nutrients including carbohydrates, proteins, and antioxidants that are important for humans, which are sourced from fruit and mangrove propagules and can be developed into raw materials for several foods that contain nutrients for human health. The specific target to be achieved is to provide knowledge/technology about diversification of non-rice food ingredients to coastal communities, especially those in the coastal area of Bajo Village, Tilamuta District, Bualemo Regency, Gorontalo Province in order to produce various products as an effort to improve the family economy. The methods to be used are group discussion, lecture, participatory, and exercise methods. If this group of women fishermen is skilled at processing mangrove fruit and marketing it, it is expected to increase the independence, quality of life, and family income of coastal women. In the long term, it becomes a mangrove-based livelihood system that supports the income of the Bajo coastal population. Mangrove-based livelihood systems require sustainable mangrove raw materials, this is an incentive for women to plant mangroves and preserve them. Thus, this activity empowers women fishermen to have equal access to mangrove conservation, and reduces carbon emissions in order to overcome global warming and climate change and to overcome food shortages in the future.

The article discusses the sources of income, expenses and methods of doing business in the aristocratic Lisle`s family. Based on the correspondence of the Lisle`s spouses with their managers and financial agents, it is revealed that the greatest income for the family came from the lease of land, extraction of tin, timber and the fish trade. The position of governor of Calais, held by Lord Lisle, also brought income. However, the expenses of the family associated with caring for the manors, the need to endorse the status of an aristocratic family, the costs of maintaining and educating the children, as well as endless litigation over land ownership, significantly worsened the financial situation of the family. The author concludes that, despite the various sources of income and the very impressive amounts obtained from them, the Lisle family permanently needed money, for this reason Lady Lisle was forced to look for new ways to replenish the family budget.
