QUALITY of life , *CANCER treatment , *CHILDHOOD cancer , *FATIGUE (Physiology) , *ANXIETY - Abstract
Background: Pediatric cancer is a complex disease that requires interdisciplinary interventions. This study aims to describe the quality of life and exhaustion levels in children diagnosed with cancer, using validated instruments that reflect the peculiarities of this disease. Method: An observational analytical study was conducted on children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with cancer. The PedsQL Cancer Module and FACIT-F instruments were used to assess quality of life and fatigue, respectively, with statistical analysis performed to identify correlations and develop an explanatory model. Results: Notable physical and psychological symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, hyporexia, irritability, and sadness were identified. The PedsQL and FACIT-F indicated a diminished quality of life. There was high concordance between the perceptions of children and their parents, except in the anxiety related to procedures, where children reported higher levels. These symptoms reflect the impact of cancer treatment on children's well-being. The concordance in evaluations suggests that parents have a good understanding of these experiences, highlighting the relevance of psychosocial interventions to improve quality of life through an adequate support network. Conclusions: It is crucial that pediatric cancer treatment addresses not only medical aspects but also the comprehensive support for the emotional and psychosocial well-being of the patients and their families. In endodontic procedures, nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments, which conform to the geometry of root canals, are employed to enhance the mechanical properties of files. However, the high cost of these instruments necessitates repeated use, increasing the risk of fatigue fractures during treatment. With various brands and types of endodontic instruments available in the market, characterizing the mechanical properties of files and their behavior under fatigue loads is essential. Currently, no standardized tests exist for assessing fatigue resistance, and each research study adopts its own equipment and methodology. This project aims to develop a test bench for fatigue testing of endodontic instruments without restrictions on material, crosssection, or external design, enabling both static and dynamic tests. The test bench employs a modular design strategy to identify components suited for modularization, utilizing readily available elements and manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing. The device operates on two axes, X and Y, and allows regulation of the instrument's depth of entry into the channel. Furthermore, it features an electronic system for automating dynamic and static tests, an LCD screen for menu navigation, and the ability to record the number of cycles until file fracture. Social media has radically transformed our social interactions, becoming one of the most used communication channels. In this context, social identification with influencers has encouraged greater involvement and dependence on social media. However, there is still a lack of understanding regarding how this contributes to social media fatigue and how it relates to algorithm awareness and information overload. This study aimed to explore these relationships among 336 university students (76,8% women) aged 18 to 23, using a serial mediation approach through structural equation modeling. The results highlight the importance of understanding how social identification with influencers affects social media fatigue, as well as the relevance of algorithm awareness and information overload in this process. These findings enrich our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of social media fatigue and emphasize the need to consider cognitive and perceptual aspects in future research and in the design of practical interventions.

Velocity loss has been recognized as an effective fatigue index in resistance training. However, the physiological consequences of this fatigue should be described. Traditionally, researchers have debated the hormonal response to non-failure resistance training. Cortisol on salivary concentration was one of the hormones under study, which is linked to the inflammatory process from exercise. This study aimed to compare the acute salivary cortisol (Sal-C) response at different percentages of 1RM with fatigue standardized by a 10% velocity loss. An experimental, randomized, and counterbalanced activity was designed. Fifteen men took part in the study (they fasted for 12 hours before carrying out the test), performing 6 sets of bench press throw with different 1RM percentages (30% - 90% 1RM). Salivary Cortisol was collected before and after each test. Velocity loss was measured by a linear encoder. ANOVA and Effect Size were performed. Sal-C showed a significant decrease in all percentages and effect size was greater with low loads (1.61 high) than with high loads (0.95-1 moderate). Peak power was significantly higher between 40-70% of 1RM compared to other percentages (30-80% 1RM). The results of this research support the idea that velocity-based training sustains the dynamic equilibrium of organisms independently of intensity training. Moreover, untrained subjects could perform efficiently up to six sets at all percentages but with fewer repetitions at higher intensities, as this study shows that untrained subjects achieved 10% velocity loss under four repetitions. Keywords: Salivary Cortisol; Velocity-based resistance training; Fatigue; Bench press.

This study paper looks into the structural integrity and failure mechanisms of washing machine top frames, with the goal of improving household appliance durability and reliability. Critical regions prone to fatigue failure were identified using SolidWorks software. Stress analysis and deformation analysis revealed the failure prone areas but upon assessing the costs associated with designing new molds for modified design and performing the breakeven calculation, we decided to go with an approach of using an alternate material which will not cause any change in existing mold. Polycarbonate (PC) with 50% long glass fiber reinforcement, were investigated to improve fatigue resistance. A new top frame of this material was made along with existing material ABS. Testing on a door simulator machine demonstrated a considerable improvement in durability, with the PC-based top frame demonstrating a 1128% increase in cycle endurance over the ABS counterpart. Top frame made up of ABS broke after 297 cycles and PC with 50% long glass fiber top frame broke after 3697 cycles. These findings highlight the significance of systematic design optimization and material selection for assuring long-term performance and safety in washing machine top frames. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study is the result of interdisciplinary research on the relationship between workplace harassment (or mobbing) and fibromyalgia (FM). Mobbing can cause emotional trauma due to the intense suffering that it provokes in the individuals who experience workplace harassment for a prolonged and recurrent manner. FM is a progressive disease that presents mainly in women and is characterized by generalized, debilitating pain, along with fatigue that does not resolve with rest. Because of studies suggesting an association between these two phenomena, we examined these two conditions in the context of our own country (Mexico). The purpose of this study is to answer two questions: 1) Can workplace relationships exacerbate a pre-existing case of FM? 2) Can workplace harassment cause the development of a disease such as FM?

Fatigue is a complex, multidimensional syndrome that is prevalent in patients with acquired brain damage and has a negative impact on the neurorehabilitation process. It presents from early stages after the injury, and may persist over time, regardless of whether sequelae have resolved. Fatigue is conditioned by upper neuronal circuits, and is defined as an abnormal perception of overexertion. Its prevalence ranges from 29% to 77% after stroke, from 18% to 75% after traumatic brain injury, and from 47% to 97% after brain tumours. Fatigue is associated with factors including female sex, advanced age, dysfunctional families, history of specific health conditions, functional status (eg, fatigue prior to injury), comorbidities, mood, secondary disability, and the use of certain drugs. Assessment of fatigue is fundamentally based on such scales as the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Advances have recently been made in imaging techniques for its diagnosis, such as in functional MRI. Regarding treatment, no specific pharmacological treatment currently exists; however, positive results have been reported for some conventional neurorehabilitation therapies, such as bright light therapy, neurofeedback, electrical stimulation, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. This review aims to assist neurorehabilitation professionals to recognise modifiable factors associated with fatigue and to describe the treatments available to reduce its negative effect on patients.

Objective: The Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS) is a brief self-report screening scale for fatigue that is used in Spain but has not been validated for the Spanish population. The aim of this study was to adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the CFS (Sp-CFS). Method: The sample consisted of 3,671 participants (3,190 from the general population and 481 patients), aged 18 to 86 years (M = 28.43; DT = 12.71), 67.6% of whom were women. Psychometric properties of the scale were tested in a cross-sectional design using cross-validation (exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis) and estimation of invariance (sex and clinical condition). Results: A four-factor model (low energy, sleep problems, concentration problems and subjective cognitive dysfunction) rather than an original two-factor model (physical and mental fatigue) provided better indices of goodness of fit to the data. The internal consistency and stability of the scale were excellent. Its convergent validity was supported by its significant association with anxiety, depression, stress, and the positive and negative symptoms of the psychosis spectrum. The instrument did not show significant differences between sexes or clinical conditions, and it discriminated between the general population and the patients, with the latter obtaining significantly greater scores. Conclusions: Sp-CFS is a reliable and valid scale for measuring a transdiagnostic construct such as fatigue in Spanish general and clinical populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study attempts to obtain the approximate fatigue vulnerability of a steel arch bridge from the Colombian national road network. It establishes the interaction between the demand and the available capacity through the Weibull probability equation, and an AASHTO remaining-time equation indicated in (FHWA, 2015). However, the available capacity in terms of the S-N curve obtained from available international references was modified to account for the effects of corrosion present in elements and/or joints in the bridge. The load demand was modeled as the controlled action of the fatigue truck reported in AASHTO, which was systematically located on a structural model represented by Shell and Frame type finite elements, which represented the information available in drawings (in the current Colombian bridge management system), and the one obtained from structural survey activities. The structural model was further calibrated by a parametric study on the modulus of elasticity of steel, which included the minimization of the error difference in the vertical deflections of a bridge load test, keeping the magnitude within the expected ranges established in a protocol. Such reports of actual deflections were achieved using distance meters at important points of the bridge. This model allowed for estimating the magnitude of stresses in the structural elements of the bridge, especially in an area of interest for the study where chemical and physical elements of structural deficiency were determined. The results show an inverse relationship between the probability of failure and remaining service life. The effect of corrosion on the remaining capacity and the probability of failure of the structural elements is clear. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the effects of ingesting royal jelly sports gel at doses of 1500 mg, 3000 mg, and 4500 mg after 48 hours of high-intensity weight training on creatine kinase (CK) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels. A total of 16 participants were recruited and randomly assigned to four groups: placebo, 1500 mg, 3000 mg, and 4500 mg of royal jelly sports gel. Blood samples were collected before and after the intervention to measure CK and IL-6 levels. The results revealed a significant reduction in CK and IL-6 levels in the 4500 mg royal jelly group compared to the placebo group. However, no significant changes were observed in the 1500 mg and 3000 mg groups. These findings suggest that the consumption of royal jelly sports gel at a dosage of 4500 mg may positively influence recovery processes after high-intensity weight training by mitigating muscle damage and inflammation. Further research is needed to elucidate the potential benefits and optimal dosages of royal jelly in enhancing exercise recovery. Keywords: Suplementation, Biomarkers, Royal Jelly, Fatique

The present study focuses on the evaluation of the load-bearing capacity of asphalt mixtures by conducting flexure and tensile beam tests. The main objective is to compare the criterion of 50% initial stiffness with that of maximum normalized stiffness and the limits established by the CR-2020 standard in Costa Rica. The methodology is based on sinusoidal strain tests to determine the number of repetitions required for fatigue failure. The analysed samples were tested using the AASHTO T-321 standard with the previouslymentioned failure criteria. The results indicate that there is no clear correlation between both criteria and the limits established by the CR-2020 standard, however, it was determined that the standardized stiffness test yields data with a greater number of load repetitions. Finally, the fatigue test is crucial to evaluate the long-term capacity of asphalt mixtures. Further research is need to determine the feasibility of adopting the standard stiffness criterion to be used in current specifications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
