Objective: To understand the experience of young people with orofacial clefts regarding life as an adolescent. Methods: Descriptive, qualitative study, developed in a Brazilian public and tertiary hospital, a reference center in the care of patients with craniofacial anomalies and related syndromes, between February and April 2019. The sample was defined by theoretical saturation. The following inclusion criteria were established: age between ten and 19 years old and having previously operated on orofacial cleft (lip and/or palate). Individuals with fissure associated with syndromes or other malformations were excluded. Data collection was performed through semi-structured interviews, which were audio recorded and transcribed in full. The trigger element was: how has it been for you to experience your adolescence? For the construction of the results, content analysis was used in the thematic modality. Results: Seventeen adolescents participated. From the speeches, three categories were revealed: interacting socially, feeling supported, and experiencing and facing prejudice. Conclusions: The biopsychosocial and conflicting complexity that adolescents with orofacial clefts experience was noticed, as well as the importance of receiving support and establishing modalities of situational coping. Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile and prevalence of live births with orofacial clefts in Brazil between 1999 and 2020. Methods: Descriptive study. The population corresponded to live births with isolated orofacial clefts in Brazil registered in the Live Birth Information System between 1999 and 2020. Descriptive variables were selected according to their availability and grouped into socioeconomic and demographic, maternal and child health care, and biological variables. Data were submitted to a descriptive analysis using the Software for Statistics and Data Science (STATA). Results: During the period, 33,699 children were born with orofacial clefts, and 82.1% (27,677) of them were isolated clefts. Regarding these cases, the majority were cleft lip and palate (9,619 or 34.7%), followed by cleft palate (9,442 or 34.1%), and by cleft lip (8,616 or 31.3%). Conclusions: Live births with orofacial clefts in Brazil were male, white, with birthweight ≥2,500 g and gestational age ≥37 weeks, born by cesarean section, and with Apgar scores ≥7. The cases were more frequent among mothers who were in their first and single pregnancy and had seven or more prenatal appointments. The mothers were 20 and 29 years old, had eight to ten years of study, and were single. The national prevalence of clefts was 4.24/10,000. The South and Southeast regions of Brazil had the highest prevalence, while the lowest prevalence was recorded in the Northeast and North regions. Resumo Objetivo conhecer o itinerário terapêutico de crianças com fissuras de lábio e/ou palato. Método estudo descritivo de natureza qualitativa realizado com famílias de crianças com fissura labiopalatina. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre junho e julho de 2022 por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, e aplicou-se a análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados participaram oito famílias e emergiram três categorias: I) Enfrentando o desconhecido: diagnóstico de fissura labiopalatina na criança – notaram-se sentimentos de choque, medo e incerteza que permeiam durante o diagnóstico precoce ou tardio; II) Um caminho árduo: pausas e recomeços durante o itinerário terapêutico – observou-se que as famílias percorreram caminhos diferentes devido à especificidade da configuração familiar e da própria fissura; III) Tecendo a rede de apoio para o cuidado – mostrou-se ser de extrema necessidade o apoio dos amigos, família, profissionais e instituições de saúde. Conclusões e implicações para prática o itinerário terapêutico de crianças com fissura labiopalatina é árduo e acompanhado de desafios, que se iniciam no diagnóstico e permanecem após o nascimento. Espera-se que os resultados deste estudo suscitem o diálogo entre os profissionais de saúde e se familiarizem com as necessidades dessa população e possam atuar nos diferentes pontos de atenção à saúde.

Cleft lip and palate (CLPs) are prevalent congenital deformities. Functional, aesthetic, and social rehabilitation should begin after birth and continue until complete skeletal development, with the participation of the dental surgeon. The treatment aims at repairing changes in craniofacial growth, facilitating their feeding in the first days of life and correcting malocclusions. The present study reports the clinical characteristics of FLPs, highlighting the importance of early intervention by the dentist to improve the quality of life of those patients. This is a literature review, in which research were carried out in the Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar databases, using the descriptors "cleft lip", "cleft palate", "surgery", "orthodontics". In the first research, 96 articles were found. The inclusion criteria were applied, articles in English, Portuguese, and articles between 2000 and 2022, which led to 20 articles. CLPs affect tooth development, leading to changes in speech, orofacial structures, and oral functions. It was concluded that the dental surgeon should intervene from birth, seeking a better quality of life even in the lactating phase. Emphasizing that each patient must have their planning thought through, showing the importance of adherence, since it will involve long-term follow-up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To assess the prevalence and factors associated with smoking in adolescents with cleft lip and/or palate. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, developed in a Brazilian public and tertiary hospital between November 2018 and August 2019. Adolescents aged between 12 and 19 years old, previously submitted to cheiloplasty and/or palatoplasty surgeries were included. Data collection was carried out through interviews, guided by questionnaires referring to sociodemographic issues, use and factors associated with smoking. For statistical analysis, Fisher’s Exact Test, Chi-square, Student’s t test and bivariate logistic regression were used, all with a significance level of 5% (p≤0.05). Results: 102 adolescents participated. The prevalence of smoking was 20.6% (n=21). Having cleft lip and palate was associated with smoking (p=0.012). The bivariate analysis showed that not dating (p=0.001; OR=0.19) and owning a home (p=0.032; OR=0.33) were configured as protective factors for the act of being a smoker, while believing that smoking facilitates interaction with young people or with the group of friends (p=0.043; OR=2.95), having friends who use alcoholic beverages (p=0.002; OR=8.40), having friends who use drugs, except cigarettes (p=0.002; OR=5.33), use alcoholic beverages (p<0.001; OR=10.67) and sexual initiation (p<0.001; OR=7.00), were associated with being a smoker. Conclusions: From the knowledge of the profile of adolescents most vulnerable to tobacco use, it is possible to plan and implement educational and preventive actions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To understand the experience of parents regarding prenatal diagnosis of orofacial cleft in their children. Methods: Descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out in a Brazilian public tertiary hospital between January and March 2019. Parents who were accompanying their children during hospitalization for primary surgeries and who had received the diagnosis of malformation during pregnancy were included in this study. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, which were audio-recorded and transcribed in full. To prepare the results, Content Analysis was used in the Thematic modality. Results: The sample had 17 participants: 16 mothers and one father. From the speeches, three categories were unveiled: dealing with the unknown, assimilating the diagnosis, and positive and negative implications of prenatal diagnosis. Conclusions: We learned how complex and conflicting it was for parents to receive the diagnosis of malformation in their children, and that family and professional support was essential to the process of assimilation and coping. The findings point to the need for planning and implementing interventions, protocols and/or public policies aimed at assisting these parents in this period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between burden and sleep quality in caregivers of infants with cleft lip and/or palate. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in a Brazilian tertiary public hospital between March and September 2020. The sample included the main informal, literate caregivers of infants with cleft lip and/or palate, aged 18 years or older. The instruments used were the Burden Interview Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Data were collected during the infants’ hospitalization. Statistical analysis adopted Pearson and Spearman correlations, with a 5% significance level. Results: A total of 31 informal caregivers participated in the study, most of them mothers (n=28; 90%), with a mean age of 30 years (standard deviation – SD=7.5), low socioeconomic status (n=20; 64%), who completed high school (n=19; 61%), were married (58%), had two children (n=15; 48%), and no employment relationship (n=18; 58%). A moderate correlation was found between sleep quality and burden (r=0.39; p=0.032) and between burden and subjective sleep quality (r=0.39; p=0.029), sleep latency (r=0.43; p=0.017), and daytime dysfunction (r=0.49; p<0.001). Conclusions: The study showed that the higher the burden, the lower the sleep quality. The findings indicate the need to plan and implement interventions to minimize the burden experienced by these informal caregivers in order to improve their sleep quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cleft lip and palate are congenital orofacial anomalies that affect the middle third of the face, caused during fusion of the maxillary bones. The treatment is long and requires a wide veriety of professionals working in an integrated manner. This study aims was to conduct an integrative literature review to identify the interdisciplinary treatments associated with Dentistry currently proposed and most used. The descriptors were used: cleft palate (AND) cleft lip (AND) interdisciplinary health team (AND) patients, in Portuguese and English, in the databases: Medline/PubMed; Bireme and SciELO, from 2001 to 2021. Interdisciplinary teams are necessary and effective for the treatment of cleft patients. Over the last 20 years, different constitutions and ways of working have been observed. Depressão pós-parto (DPP) é um transtorno que afeta a saúde da mulher e a qualidade da relação mãe-bebê. Este estudo comparou a DPP de mães de bebês sem e com fissuras labiais, palatinas e labiopalatinas, e identificou as variáveis preditoras da DPP considerando a amostra como um todo. Participaram 120 mães, sendo 60 de bebês com fissuras e 60 de bebês sem condição de risco. Para a coleta foram utilizados: protocolo de entrevista e Escala de Depressão Pós-Parto de Edimburgo (EDPE). Resultados apontaram maior incidência de DPP em mães de bebês sem fissura (30%) do que em mães de bebês com fissura (20%). Porém, não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos. As variáveis que explicaram a ocorrência de DPP foram: menor escolaridade materna, menor número de filhos, ausência de fissura no bebê, maior idade do bebê, e menor condição socioeconômica

Multifactorial cleft lip and palate is relatively common in populations (1 in every 700 livebirths). Individuals born with clefts require lifelong treatment after initial surgical repair and data suggested that their lifespan is shorter, possibly due to cancer or psychiatric conditions. Molecular defects that alter facial development in utero appear to later in life predispose to cancer. Common polymorphisms in e-cadherin and an endoplasmic reticulum transmembrane sensor gene appear to hold the promise to be biomarkers that may help to define individual risks to cancer, in the presence or not of family history of clefts.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar a correlação entre religiosidade, espiritualidade e autoestima em adolescentes com fissura de lábio e palato, uni e bilateral. Método Estudo correlacional e transversal, desenvolvido em um hospital público e terciário brasileiro, entre julho de 2018 e fevereiro de 2019. A amostra constou de 100 adolescentes divididos em dois grupos, G1 (fissura unilateral, 50 participantes) e G2 (fissura bilateral, 50 participantes). Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizados três instrumentos: Questionário Sociodemográfico, a Escala de Religiosidade de Durel e a Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. Utilizaram-se para a análise estatística os Testes Qui-Quadrado, Mann-Whitney, Correlação de Pearson e a análise das forças de correlação linear, com nível de significância de 5% (p ≥ 0,05). Resultados Apenas a religiosidade organizacional foi maior no G1 em comparação com o G2 (p = 0,03). A autoestima geral foi satisfatória em ambos os grupos; contudo, não houve diferença significante entre eles (p = 0,34). Não foram evidenciadas correlações de religiosidade e espiritualidade com a autoestima nos G1 e G2. Conclusão Adolescentes com fissura de lábio e palato, uni ou bilateral, apresentaram elevados níveis de religiosidade, espiritualidade e autoestima. Porém, não se evidenciou correlação entre essas variáveis.

RESUMO Objetivo elaborar um website de cunho educacional sobre fissura labiopalatina para profissionais e estudantes da área da saúde. Métodos trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, exploratório, estruturado a partir da proposta de design instrucional, composta por quatro fases: análise e planejamento (busca nas bases científicas), modelagem (estruturação com o conteúdo, ilustrações e questionário), avaliação (por especialistas que atuam na área) e implementação (disponibilização do website). Resultados na fase de análise e planejamento foram encontrados 408 artigos para estruturar os tópicos do website. Na modelagem, o conteúdo foi dividido em 7 seções, criadas 16 imagens estáticas e um questionário avaliativo. Na fase de avaliação, participaram 10 fonoaudiólogas especialistas que sugeriram a manutenção de 7 seções no website. Todas as avaliações com sugestões de modificações que tiveram índice de concordância abaixo de 90% foram atendidas, tanto no conteúdo, como no questionário. Após, o website foi reformulado, assim como o questionário, para futura avaliação dos usuários. O website está disponibilizado em www.fissuralabiopalatina.unb.br. Conclusão por meio da sistemática do design instrucional, o website sobre fissuras labiopalatina foi constituído para a orientação de estudantes, profissionais da área da saúde e população em geral.

The cleft lip and palate is a craniofacial malformation that, as its name induces, involves the lip, alveolar ridge, and palate. It may be accompanied by some dental anomalies such as dens in dente, which needs radiographic evaluation to aid in its diagnosis. Objective: To identify in periapical radiographs the dens in dente in individuals with cleft lip and palate, specifically in the region close to the cleft. Methods: Ten periapical radiographs of individuals with cleft lip and palate from the digital image file of the Oral Diagnosis Section at Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies - University of São Paulo (Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil) were evaluated. In a first step, the dens in dente of individuals were identified. In a second step, they were classified according to the Oehlers (1957). After these phases, all the records of the individuals were evaluated regarding the treatment history of these teeth. Conclusion: In the radiographic sample of individuals with cleft lip and palate, the highest frequency of dens in dente was found in tooth 12. According to the Oehlers classification, 70% of the cases were type 2, 30% type 1, and type 3 was not found. Between the sides of the cleft evaluated for the presence of dens in dente, 40% were on the right side, 40% bilaterally, and 20% on the left side. Periapical radiography is essential to complement the clinical diagnosis. Treatment can vary according to the levels of impairment of this dental anomaly and depends on the correct evaluation by the dentist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cleft lip and palate affects 1 in 650 live births in Brazil and is a congenital malformation. The Spina classification is the most used to determine the type of malformation according to the type of involvement, which may be cleft lip, cleft palate or cleft lip and palate. Of multifactorial origin in the formative period, there are several health and psychosocial issues that affect individuals, their families and their interactions in society. This study analyzes the incidence of the above mentioned malformations reported in DATASUS from 2015 to 2017, where it is possible to observe an increase in the number of cases in the state of Paraná, without the same change in the southern region of Brazil. Cleft lip and/or palate are malformations with wide phenotypic heterogeneity, which require highly complex treatments in most cases. In turn, transverse maxillary deficiency is a common finding in individuals with complete cleft lip and palate, especially as a response to the restrictive effects of the primary reconstructive plastic surgeries. With this in mind, this study aims at presenting the technical description of the case of a patient with bilateral complete cleft lip and palate, who underwent surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion, as well as discussing the relevant particularities.

Objective: to identify pregnant women’s main doubts at prenatal diagnosis of baby's cleft lip and/or palate. Method: this retrospective, quantitative, descriptive study considered a sample of 15 pregnant women attending nursing appointments in 2016 at a public institution in São Paulo. After the project was approved by the research ethics committee, data were collected using an institutional instrument. Doubts were categorized into feeding, hygiene, surgical protocol, diagnostic hypothesis, postoperative care and suffering/bullying. The results were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis. Results: the mothers’ mean age was 30 (±5.9) years, the fathers’ mean was 31 (±10.4) years. The following features predominated: low mean socioeconomic position – 8 (53%); higher education – 15 (52%); male babies – 11 (73%); left unilateral transforaminal cleft – 7 (47%). Doubts were raised on: food – 15 (100%) and hygiene – 9 (60%). Conclusion: the pregnant women’s main doubts were about food and hygiene. Identifying them made it possible to adjust guidelines to this clientele’s real needs. RESUMO Objetivo: identificar as principais dúvidas de gestantes com diagnóstico pré-natal do bebê de fissura de lábio e/ou palato. Método: estudo descritivo, retrospectivo, quantitativo. A amostra foi composta por 15 de gestantes atendidas na consulta de enfermagem, em 2016, numa instituição pública paulista. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se instrumento institucional após aprovação do projeto por Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. As dúvidas foram categorizadas como alimentação, higiene, protocolo cirúrgico, hipótese diagnóstica, pós-operatório e sofrimento/bullying. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva. Resultados: idade média materna de 30 anos (±5,9), paterna de 31 anos (±10,4). Predomínio das seguintes características: classificação socioeconômica média inferior – 8 (53%); escolaridade dos progenitores, ensino superior completo – 15 (52%); bebês do sexo masculino – 11 (73%); diagnósticos de Fissura Transforame Unilateral Esquerda – 7 (47%). Salientaram-se dúvidas sobre: alimentação – 15 (100%) e higiene – 9 (60%). Conclusão: as principais dúvidas das gestantes foram sobre alimentação e higiene. Identificá-las permitiu direcionar as orientações para as necessidades reais dessa clientela. RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar las principales dudas de mujeres embarazadas con diagnóstico prenatal del bebé de fisura de labio y/o palatina. Método: estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, cuantitativo. La muestra se compuso de 15 mujeres embarazadas atendidas en la consulta de enfermería, en 2016, en una institución pública de São Paulo. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó un instrumento institucional después de la aprobación del proyecto por el Comité de Ética en Investigación. Las dudas se categorizaron como alimentación, higiene, protocolo quirúrgico, hipótesis diagnóstica, postoperatorio y sufrimiento/bullying. Los resultados se sometieron al análisis estadístico descriptivo. Resultados: promedio de edad materna de 30 años (±5,9), paterna de 31 años (±10,4). Predominio de los siguientes aspectos: clasificación socioeconómica media inferior – 8 (53%); escolaridad de los progenitores, enseñanza universitaria completa – 15 (52%); bebés de sexo masculino – 11 (73%); diagnósticos de Fisura Transforamen Unilateral Izquierda – 7 (47%). Se destacaron dudas sobre: alimentación – 15 (100%) e higiene – 9 (60%). Conclusión: las principales dudas de las embarazadas se basaron en alimentación e higiene. Identificarlas permitió consucir las orientaciones hacia las necesidades reales de esa clientela.

Enquadramento: indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina possuem higiene bucal precária e tendência de não manipular a região da fissura, contribuindo a um maior risco de cárie. Objetivo: descrever a prevalência de cárie e sua correlação com fatores sociodemográficos e cuidados de higiene bucal em crianças com fissura de lábio, comparadas a crianças sem fissuras. Metodologia: este estudo prospetivo transversal avaliou 145 crianças de 7 a 66 meses com FL (27,0±17,9 meses). No grupo comparativo foram 130 crianças sem fissura (38,5±17,99 meses). Foi realizada avaliação da cárie pelo índice ceo-d e os familiares responderam um questionário abordando aspetos sociodemográficos, hábitos dietéticos e de higiene bucal. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. Resultados: a prevalência de cárie foi 30% no grupo de estudo e 21,53% no grupo comparativo (x2, p=0,089). O índice ceo-d médio foi de 1,5±3,3 para o grupo de estudo e 0,8±1,9 para o grupo comparativo (teste T, p=0,072). Os aspetos sociodemográficos, higiene bucal e hábitos dietéticos não influenciaram na ocorrência de cárie (p>0,001). Conclusão: houve maior ocorrência de cárie em crianças com fissura nos incisivos superiores, tiveram menos aleitamento materno e introdução mais precoce do açúcar na dieta. Os familiares relataram mais receio na higiene bucal, entretanto foi iniciada mais precocemente.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the correlation between measures of quality of life and burden in family caregivers of infants with cleft lip and palate and to analyze possible associations between quality of life and sociodemographic variables. Method: Exploratory, cross-sectional study conducted in hospital specialized in the treatment of craniofacial anomalies, with caregivers who answered the following data collection instruments: sociodemographic characterization form, World Health Organization Quality of Life - BREF questionnaire and the Burden Interview Scale. The statistical analysis was conducted using the Pearson’s Correlation test, the Student’s t-test and the ANOVA test with a level of significance of 0.05. Results: 77 caregivers participated in the study. There was an inverse correlation between quality of life and burden in the Physical Health, Psychological, Social Relationships and Environment domains. There was a positive correlation between quality of life and family income in the Environment domain. Conclusion: The greater the burden on the caregiver, the lower was their perception of quality of life. Caregivers with higher family income and greater level of education presented a better perception quality of life in the Environment domain.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to identify the focus of scientific publications in the field of orofacial motricity in individuals with cleft lip and palate, as well as validated protocols used in speech and language evaluation. Methods: a study conducted using the following databases: Medline, SciELO, Lilacs and Google Scholar, through keywords including: cleft palate + cleft lip + evaluation + speech therapy + stomatognathic system + speech + phonation + chewing + swallowing + breathing + validation studies, in Portuguese and English. Results: a total of 572 articles that addressed the evaluation of the stomatognathic system was selected. The articles were published between 2012 and 2017, and examined for year of publication, subject area, focus, instrument used for evaluation, and type of study. Of these, 90 articles met the inclusion criteria, but only 5 used validated protocols. The greatest number of articles was published in 2014. The studies covered broad age groups, using subjective and objective methods, and instruments were often non-standardized. Conclusion: speech was the prevalent theme, while other orofacial functions were poorly investigated, demonstrating that studies with other approaches were lacking.

Objetivos: analisar a tendência e os fatores associados à presença de fissura labial e/ou fenda palatina em recém-nascidos brasileiros, a fim de verificar possíveis associações da mesma com fatores maternos, assistenciais e do recém-nascido. Métodos: estudo transversal, ecológico, envolvendo todos os nascimentos vivos do Brasil, registrados no Sistema de Informação sobre Nascidos Vivos de 2005 a 2016. Foram avaliadas informações maternas e infantis, utilizando-se análise de tendência e razão de chances, com intervalo de confiança de 95%. As análises foram realizadas através do software SPSS. Resultados: foram analisados 17.800 nascidos vivos com presença de fissura labial e/ou fenda palatina. A taxa de prevalência brasileira foi de 0,51/1000 nascidos vivos, sendo que as Regiões Sul e Sudeste registraram taxas maiores do que a nacional. Houve associação com idade materna superior a 35 anos, sem companheiro, menos de sete consultas de pré-natal, nascimento prematuro e cesariana. Sobre os fatores do recém-nascido, o sexo masculino, Apgar menor que sete no 1º e 5º minutos de vida, baixo peso ao nascer e raça/cor branca apresentaram associação. Conclusões: o Brasil apresenta tendência crescente das taxas de fissura labial e/ou fenda palatina (p= 0,019), reforçando a necessidade de fortalecimento das redes de atenção à saúde, prevendo o amparo adequado aos bebês com fissura labial e/ou fenda palatina e suas famílias. ABSTRACT Objective: to correlate spirituality and religiosity with quality of life of adolescents with and without cleft lip and palate. Methods: cross-sectional and correlational study involving two groups: case group (n = 40) and comparison group (n = 40). The Duke University Religion Index (DUREL) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref were used for data collection. The Mann-Whitney, Chi-Square, Student’s t-test and Pearson’s correlation tests were used in the statistical analyses, with a significance level of 5% (p ≤ 0.05). Results: organizational religiosity and overall quality of life were significantly higher in the case group (p = 0.031 and p = 0.012, respectively). As for quality of life, the Environment Domain was significantly higher in the case group (p < 0.001). In the correlation between religiosity and spirituality, non-organizational religiosity had a strong correlation (r = 0.62) with organizational religiosity (p < 0.001). In the correlation of religiosity and spirituality with quality of life, only a moderate correlation between spirituality and overall quality of life was identified (r = -0.35, p = 0.026). Conclusion: there was no relationship of religiosity and spirituality with quality of life among adolescents with cleft lip and palate for most aspects evaluated.

Objetivo: identificar a frequência dos diagnósticos de enfermagem relacionados à nutrição e as intervenções de enfermagem no pós-operatório de cirurgia de enxerto ósseo alveolar durante a internação. Método: estudo descritivo e quantitativo, realizado em um hospital público especializado. A amostra constituiu-se de 150 pacientes, avaliados por meio de anamnese e observação, com foco na aceitação alimentar. Resultados: os diagnósticos de enfermagem relacionados à nutrição foram elaborados segundo a taxonomia da North American Nursing Diagnosis Association-International (NANDA-I) e evidenciou-se predomínio da disposição para nutrição melhorada. As intervenções propostas de acordo com o referencial da Nursing Interventions Classifications (NIC) relacionaram-se ao ensino da dieta prescrita, promoção do autocuidado e monitoração nutricional. Conclusão: o presente estudo contribuiu para o trabalho interdisciplinar entre a nutrição e a enfermagem no processo de cuidar. Method: this descriptive, quantitative study took place at a specialized public hospital in a sample of 150 patients evaluated by anamnesis and observation focusing on food acceptance. Results: the nutrition-related nursing diagnoses were prepared according to the taxonomy of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association-International (NANDA-I), and displayed a predominant willingness to improve nutrition. The interventions proposed according to the frame of reference of Nursing Interventions Classifications (NIC) related to teaching prescribed diet, promoting self-care, and monitoring nutrition. Conclusion: this study contributed to interdisciplinary work between nutrition and nursing in the care process. La muestra consistió en 150 pacientes, evaluados mediante anamnesis y observación, enfocando la aceptación de alimentos. Resultados: los diagnósticos de enfermería relacionados con la nutrición se elaboraron según la taxonomía de la North American Nursing Diagnosis Association-International (NANDA-I) y pusieron en evidencia un predominio de la disposición de mejorar la nutrición. Las intervenciones propuestas de acuerdo con el marco de la Nursing Interventions Classifications (NIC) fueron relacionados con la enseñanza de la dieta prescrita, la promoción del autocuidado y el monitoreo nutricional. ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) represent the most common congenital anomalies of the face. OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between maternal smoking, gender and CL/P. METHODS: This is an epidemiological cross-sectional study. We interviewed 1519 mothers divided into two groups: Cases: mothers of children with CL/P (n = 843) and Controls: mothers of children without CL/P (n = 676). All mothers were classified as smoker or non-smoker subjects during the first trimester of pregnancy. To determine an association among maternal smoking, gender, and CL/P, odds ratios were calculated and the adjustment was made by a logistic regression model. RESULTS: An association between maternal smoking and the presence of cleft was observed. There was also a strong association between male gender and the presence of cleft (OR = 3.51; 95% CI 2.83-4.37). By binary logistic regression analysis, it was demonstrated that both variables were independently associated with clefts. In a multivariate analysis, male gender and maternal smoking had a 2.5- and a 1.5-time greater chance of having a cleft, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our findings are consistent with a positive association between maternal smoking during pregnancy and CL/P in male gender. The results support the importance of smoking prevention and introduction of cessation programs among women with childbearing potential.

Introduction:Cleft lip and palate are craniofacial anomalies highly prevalent in the overall population. In oral clefts involving the alveolar ridge, variations of number, shape, size and position are observed in maxillary lateral incisors. The objective of this manuscript is to elucidate the embryonic origin of maxillary lateral incisors in order to understand the etiology of these variations.Contextualization: The hypothesis that orofacial clefts would split maxillary lateral incisor buds has been previously reported. However, recent studies showed that maxillary lateral incisors have dual embryonic origin, being partially formed by both the medial nasal process and the maxillary process. In other words, the mesial half of the lateral incisor seems to come from the medial nasal process while the distal half of the lateral incisor originates from the maxillary process. In cleft patients, these processes do not fuse, which results in different numerical and positional patterns for lateral incisors relating to the alveolar cleft. In addition to these considerations, this study proposes a nomenclature for maxillary lateral incisors in patients with cleft lip and palate, based on embryology and lateral incisors position in relation to the alveolar cleft.Conclusion:Embryological knowledge on the dual origin of maxillary lateral incisors and the use of a proper nomenclature for their numerical and positional variations renders appropriate communication among professionals and treatment planning easier, in addition to standardizing research analysis.

OBJETIVO:caracterizar os casos de fissura de lábio e/ou palato atendidos num centro de referência do estado de Pernambuco e os nascidos vivos notificados ao Sistema de Informação sobre Nascidos Vivos com essa malformação, mensurando a subnotificação dos casos de fissura nesse sistema.MÉTODOS:desenvolveu-se um estudo epidemiológico, cuja população foram crianças nascidas em 2009 e atendidas no centro de referencia para deformidades craniofaciais em Pernambuco, e pelos nascidos vivos no mesmo ano, notificados ao Sinasc com a fissura. Realizou-se um linkage determinístico entre ambas as fontes de dados e foram considerados subnotificados os casos que constaram na lista de atendimentos do centro de referência, mas que não foram notificados no Sinasc.RESULTADOS:dos 138 casos com fissura encontrados no Centro de Referência, 37,70% nasceram com fissura transforame e 66,40% do sexo masculino. No Sinasc, foram notificados 78 nascidos vivos com essa malformação, sendo a maioria do sexo masculino e com distribuição homogênea em relação ao tipo da fissura. Dos 138 casos localizados no Centro de Referência, 86 não foram notificados ao Sinasc, perfazendo uma subnotificação de 110,3%.CONCLUSÃO:existe uma alta subnotificação da fissura de lábio e/ou palato no Sinasc. Apesar dos dados fazerem referência ao estado de Pernambuco, acredita-se que reflete uma realidade nacional.

Orofacial cleft (OFC) is a malformation that demands aid for the patient from birth till the end of adolescence. Several stressing situations related to the treatment may occur during this period. Current study identified the main stress factors of OFC, its treatment and its coping by pre-adolescents. Sample population comprised twenty-two pre-adolescents, aged 9-13 years old, who were under treatment, since birth, at a specialized assistance center. Cards with the characterization of the sample and Responses to Stress Questionnaire - Cleft Lip and Palate (RSQ-CLP), that had a cultural-linguistic adaptation, and they were, applied individually. The most frequent coping strategy was Acceptance. Chronic treatment stimulated the bond between pre-adolescents and people that gave care and help in the resolution of issues linked to treatment. Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of individual low socioeconomic status (SES) and deprived geographical area (GA) on the occurrence of isolated cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL±P) in Argentina. Methods. This case-control study included 577 newborns with isolated CL±P and 13 344 healthy controls, born between 1992 and 2001, from a total population of 546 129 births in 39 hospitals in Argentina. Census data on unsatisfied basic needs were used to establish the degree of geographical area deprivation. An SES index for each individual was established, using maternal age, gravidity, low paternal and maternal education, and low-level paternal occupation. Logistic regression was used to assess the effects of low SES and of deprived GA on CL±P. Results. A slightly increased risk of CL±P was observed in mothers with a low SES, while a deprived GA showed no effect. Native ancestry, acute maternal illnesses, and poor prenatal care were significant risk factors for CL±P for the mothers with low SES, after using propensity scores to adjust for the demographic characteristics in cases and controls. Conclusions. Low individual SES slightly increased the risk for CL±P, but a deprived GA did not have that effect. There was no interaction between individual SES and deprived GA. Factors related to low individual SES--including poor prenatal care, low parental education, lack of information, and lifestyle factors--should be primarily targeted as risk factors for CL±P rather than factors related to a deprived place of residence.
