Background: Analysis of binding patterns of biomolecules underpin new paradigms for trait engineering. One way of designing early flowering crops is to manipulate genes controlling flowering time. SOC1, a central integrator of flowering, is downregulated by SVP. In amphidiploid Brassica juncea, flowering is plausibly mediated by combinatorial interactions involving natural variants of SOC1 promoter and SVP protein homologs. Although fluctuating temperatures influence energetics of molecular interactions and phenotypes, mechanistic insights on these remain unknown. Herein, we report diversity in 50 homologs of SVP proteins from 25 Brassicaceae species. Materials and Methods and Results: Sequence and phylogenetic analysis of 9 natural variants of B. juncea SVP revealed differences in MIKC domains and sub-genome of origin. Generation and refinement of 15 SVP protein models (natural and hypothetical) using I-TASSER and ALPHAFOLD, and 3 SOC1 promoter fragments using 3D-DART, revealed structural diversity. Notwithstanding, binding affinity of 48 docked complexes analysed using HADDOCK and PreDBA were similar. Analysis of 27 docked complexes for distribution of shared or unique binding patterns and type of molecular contacts (π-π stacking, hydrophobic interactions, Van-der-Waals forces, H-bonds) using PyMOL, CCP4i, DNAproDB, PremPDI and DIMPLOT revealed extensive variation implicating compensatory mutations in preserving binding affinity. Yeast one-hybrid assays validated binding potential predicted in docked complexes. Conserved amino-acid and nucleotide residues involved in non-covalent interactions were identified. Computational alanine substitution established cruciality of amino-acid hotspots conferring stability to docked complexes. Conclusions: Our study is important as identification of crucial amino-acid hotspots is essential for rational protein design. Flower induction in pitaya (Hylocereus polyrhizus) is regulated by complex gene networks involving multiple signaling pathways that ensure flower bud (FB) formation, but its molecular determinants remain largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to identify key genes and pathways involved in pitaya flower induction by analyzing transcriptomics profiles from differentiating buds. Our results indicate that the flower induction process is driven by a combination of sugar, hormone, transcription factor (TF), and flowering-related genes. We found that during the FB induction period, the levels of sugar, starch, auxin (AUX), cytokinin (CTK) active forms dihydrozeatin riboside (dhZR), zeatin riboside (ZR), N6-isopentenyladenosine (iPA), and brassinosteroid (BR) increase in the late stage (LS), while active gibberellins (GA3, GA4) decrease, signaling a metabolic and hormonal shift essential for flowering. Differential gene expression analysis identified key genes involved in starch and sugar metabolism, AUX, CTK, BR synthesis, and (GA) degradation, with notable differential expression in photoperiod (COL, CDF, TCP), age-related (SPL), and key flowering pathways (FT, FTIP, AGL, SOC1). This study reveals a multidimensional regulatory network for FB formation in pitaya, primarily mediated by the crosstalk between sugar and hormone signaling pathways, providing new insights into the molecular mechanism of FB formation in pitaya. Shoot determinacy is a key trait affecting productivity in tomato, quantitatively governed by genes within the flowering pathway. Achieving an optimal balance of flowering signals is essential for shaping plant architecture and maximizing yield potential. However, the genetic resources and allelic diversity available for fine-tuning this balance remain limited. In this work, we demonstrate the potential for directly manipulating shoot architecture by simultaneously targeting the flowering activating FRUITFULL(FUL)-like genes, FUL2 and MADS-BOX PROTEIN 20 (MBP20), and the flowering-repressing gene SELFPRUNING (SP). Loss of MBP20 in the sp background leads to additional inflorescences, while determinacy is largely maintained. However, additional mutation of FUL2 results in mainly indeterminate plants, which have faster sympodial cycling, leading to more compact growth and increased flower production. Cytokinins (CKs) are a class of phytohormones identified in the early 1960s and are mainly responsible for stimulating cell division. Following the discovery, research to help understand the pluralistic roles of CKs in plant growth and stress biology increased. With their fascinating ability, CKs serve as an important element in regulating the defense–growth trade-off. Herein, we demonstrate how the CK fine-tuning the organogenesis of different parts of horticultural plants is discussed. CK's role in tailoring reproductive biology (flowering, sex differentiation, fruit set, and fruit attributes) has been presented. An extensive explanation of the CK-mediated response of horticultural crops to abiotic (temperature, drought, and salinity) and biotic stresses (fungal, bacterial, and nematodes) is provided. Phoebe chekiangensis is an indigenous, endangered, and valuable timber and garden tree species in China, which is notable for having a short juvenile phase (early flowering), unique among the Phoebe genus. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating the flowering of P. chekiangensis remain unexplored, primarily due to the lack of transcriptomic or genomic data. In the present study, transcriptome sequencing yielded 53 million RNA reads, resulting in 111,250 unigenes after de novo assembly. Of these, 47,525 unigenes (42.72%) were successfully annotated in the non-redundant (Nr) database. Furthermore, 15,605 unigenes were assigned to Clusters of Orthologous Groups (KOGs), and 36,370 unigenes were classified into Gene Ontology (GO) categories. A total of 16,135 unigenes were mapped to the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database, involving 298 pathways. Based on the expression levels, Gibberellin signaling pathway-related genes were the most predominant expression levels. Hormonal analysis showed that gibberellin (GA) levels varied across tissues and flowering stages, as GA20 levels in leaves were low during full bloom, while GA1 and GA5 levels peaked in flowers. Furthermore, several key genes involved in gibberellin biosynthesis, including CPS, GID1, GA20ox, GA3ox, and GA2ox, exhibited stage-specific expression patterns. Certain genes were highly expressed during the initial phases of flowering, while others, like GA3ox and GA2ox, reached peak expression at full bloom. These findings provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying flowering in P. chekiangensis, laying the foundation for future breeding efforts. This transcriptome dataset will serve as an important public resource for molecular research on this species, facilitating the discovery of functional genes related to its growth, development, and flowering regulation. However, irregular flowering, low fruit retention, and low productivity are major issues in mango production, attributed to nutrition and fruiting factors. Additionally, the intricate relationship between nutrient availability (macro- and micronutrients) and the timing and success of flowering is discussed. The critical role of maintaining a balanced carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, implementing strategic nutrient management (particularly nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), and comprehending the source-sink relationship for optimal flower induction. BACKGROUND: High temperature stress (HTS) has become a serious threat to rice grain quality and few studies have examined the effects of HTS across multiple stages on rice grain quality. In the present study, we conducted 2 years of HTS treatments under three temperature regimes (32/22 °C, 40/30 °C and 44/34 °C) and HTS durations of 2 days and 4 days at three critical stages: booting, flowering, and a combination of booting and flowering. We employed the heat degree days (HDD) metric, which accounts for both the level and duration of HTS, to quantify the relationships between grain quality traits and HTS. RESULTS: The results revealed the diverse effects of HTS on rice grain quality at different stages, durations and temperature levels. HTS significantly (P < 0.05) reduced grain quality, with the highest sensitivities (reduction per 1 °C day−1 increase in HDD) observed at the flowering stage, followed by the combined and booting stages treatments under mild HTS treatment (40/30 °C). However, under extreme HTS treatments (44/34 °C) for 4 days, rice grains subjected to combined HTS treatment experienced complete mortality. CONCLUSION: Pre‐exposed to HTS at the booting stage within a certain intensity can alleviate the adverse effects of post‐flowering HTS on grain quality. Background: Flowering is a complex, finely regulated process involving multiple phytohormones and transcription factors. However, flowering regulation in pitaya (Hylocereus polyrhizus) remains largely unexamined. This study addresses this gap by investigating gibberellin-3 (GA3) effects on flower bud (FB) development in pitaya. Our findings reveal that GA3 application induces significant bud dormancy and suppresses FB formation, highlighting GA3's role in modulating flowering in this species. Results: GA3 application during peak flowering period significantly altered hormone levels, reducing auxin (AUX), cytokinin (CTK) active forms dihydrozeatin riboside (dhZR), zeatin riboside (ZR), N6-isopentenyladenosine (iPA), and brassinosteroid (BR), while increasing jasmonic acid (JA), GA3, and gibberellin-4 (GA4) levels, with abscisic acid (ABA) levels remaining unchanged compared to control. Conversely, FB formation was associated with increased levels of AUX, dhZR, ZR, iPA, ABA, and JA, and decreased GA3 and GA4 levels. Transcriptomic analysis revealed batches of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with phytohormone signal transduction, aligning with observed hormone changes. Notably, except four CONSTANS-like (CO) (HU06G02633, HU10G00019, HU04G00234, and HU02G01458), all other CO genes were preferentially active in GA3-treated buds. GA3 treatment inhibited genes linked to the ABC model (AP1, AP2, MADS-box, AGL, SPL) and floral identity genes (LFY, FT), favoring dormancy and clean sweep of FB formation. Conclusion: These findings underscore the potential of GA3 as a powerful modulator of flowering and bud dormancy in pitaya. By elucidating the hormonal and genetic responses to GA3 treatment, this study contributes to our understanding of flowering regulation in pitaya and highlights the significant impact of GA3 on bud developmental pathways. Background and Aims Changing precipitation regimes can influence terrestrial plants and ecosystems. However, plant phenological responses to changing temporal patterns of precipitation and the underlying mechanisms are largely unclear. This study was conducted to explore the effects of seasonal precipitation redistribution on plant reproductive phenology in a temperate steppe. Methods A field experiment was undertaken with control (C), advanced (AP) and delayed (DP) growing-season precipitation peaks and the combination of AP and DP (ADP). Seven dominant plant species were selected and divided into two functional groups (early- vs. middle-flowering species, shallow- vs. deep-rooted species) to monitor reproductive phenology, including budding, flowering and fruiting dates and the reproductive duration for four growing seasons, 2015–2017 and 2022. Key Results The AP, but not DP treatment advanced the phenological (i.e. budding, flowering and fruiting) dates and lengthened the reproductive duration across the four growing seasons and seven monitored species. In addition, the phenological responses showed divergent patterns among different plant functional groups, which could be attributed to shifts in soil moisture and its variability in different months and soil depths. Moreover, species with lengthened reproductive duration increased phenological overlap with other species, which could have a negative impact on their dominance under the AP treatment. Conclusions Our findings reveal that changing precipitation seasonality could have considerable impacts on plant phenology by affecting soil water availability and variability. Incorporating these two factors simultaneously in the phenology models will help us to understand the response of plant phenology under intensified changing precipitation scenarios. In addition, the observations of decreased dominance for the species with lengthened reproductive duration suggest that changing reproductive phenology can have a potential to affect community composition in grasslands under global change. Raspberry is a berry whose fruit is not tolerant to storage; breeding varieties with extended storage time and high comprehensive quality are significant for raspberries in cold regions. 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase (ACS) is a limiting enzyme in the ethylene synthesis process, which plays essential roles in fruit ripening and softening in plants. In this study, the RiACS1 gene in raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) variety 'Polka' was cloned. The RiACS1 gene overexpression vector was constructed and transformed into tomato plants using the Agrobacterium tumefaciens infection method to verify its function in their reproductive development. The RiACS1 gene, with a total length of 1476 bp, encoded a protein with 491 amino acids. The subcellular localization analysis of the RiACS1 protein in the tobacco transient expression system revealed that the RiACS1-GFP fusion protein was mainly located in the nucleus. Compared with the control, the flowering time and fruit color turning time of transgenic strains were advanced, and the fruit hardness was reduced. Overexpression of RiACS1 increased the activity of ACC synthase, ethylene release rate, and respiration rate during the transchromic phase. It changed the substance content, increased the content of vitamin C and anthocyanin in the fruit ripening process, and decreased the content of chlorophyll and titrable acid at the maturity stage. In addition, RiACS1 increased the relative expression levels of ethylene synthesis-related genes such as SlACS4, SlACO3, and SlACO1 in the fruit ripening process, while it decreased the expression levels of SlACS2 at the maturity stage. These results suggested that the RiACS1 gene could promote early flowering and fruit ripening in tomato plants. Cannabis sativa L. one of the oldest cultivated crops, has a complex domestication history due to its diverse uses for fibre, seed, oil, and drugs, and its wide geographic distribution. This review explores how human selection has shaped the biology of hemp and drug-type Cannabis , focusing on acquisition and utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus, and how resulting changes in source–sink relations shape their contrasting phenology. Hemp has been optimized for rapid, slender growth and nutrient efficiency, whereas drug-type cultivars have been selected for compact growth with large phytocannabinoid-producing female inflorescences. Understanding these nutrient use and ontogenetic differences will enhance our general understanding of resource allocation in plants. Nanoparticle-based methods can compensate for yield and quality loss of crops affected by drought. The current study, performed in a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design, addressed to evaluate the effect of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) at 0, 10, 20, and 30 mg L−1 under three irrigation regimes (full irrigation, partial root drying (PRD), and sustained deficit irrigation (SDI)) on Fragaria × ananassa cv. Camarosa. Results revealed that the PRD stress had more adverse effects on F. ananassa cv. Camarosa than SDI stress. Assessment of the behavior of TiO2 NPs in this study elucidated that mean productivity, yield stability index, and fruit number in plants grown under full irrigation increased when treated with 10 mg L−1 TiO2 NPs. Under the deficit irrigation, including PRD and SDI, all levels of TiO2 NPs mitigated mean productivity and yield stability index by ameliorating the fruit number and water use efficiency (WUE) and decreasing transpiration. Flowering and fruit set times were reduced by TiO2 NPs and deficit irrigation while their periods were enhanced by ones. It seems that when the strawberry was exposed to TiO2 NPs exhibited approximately drought tolerance. These nanoparticles ameliorated photosynthesis and mineral uptake and allocated dry matter to the root. These alterations can contribute to crop production in deficit irrigation strategies. Flowering marks the critical transition from vegetative to reproductive growth in plants. In this work, three vascular plant one-zinc finger (VOZ) genes, namely, MiVOZ1A, MiVOZ1B and MiVOZ2, were identified from mango (Mangifera indica). The expression levels of the three MiVOZs increased after salt and drought treatment, increased during the vegetative period, and then decreased during the floral induction period. MiVOZ1A and MiVOZ1B were expressed mainly in adult stems, leaves and juvenile stems, but MiVOZ2 was mainly had high expression in juvenile buds and adult stems. The expression levels of CONSTANS (AtCO) and FLOWERING LOCUS T (AtFT) increased and that of FLOWERING LOCUS C (AtFLC) decreased in the MiVOZ transgenic Arabidopsis lines, resulting in an earlier flowering phenotype under long-day (LD) and short-day (SD) conditions. However, the overexpression of MiVOZ reduced the tolerance of the transgenic Arabidopsis to salt and drought stress. In addition, the interaction between MiVOZ proteins and CONSTANS-Like 16 (MiCOL16) proteins in mango was confirmed in vivo via yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) assays and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC). This work demonstrated the functions of MiVOZ1A, MiVOZ1B and MiVOZ2 and provided a basis for further research on the regulation of mango flowering and molecular genetic breeding.Key message: Three MiVOZs were isolated from mango, and the overexpression of MiVOZs promoted earlier flowering and reduced tolerance to abiotic stresses in transgenic Arabidopsis. The realization of the expected benefits of stubble cover crops (CCs) depends on sufficient plant growth, which is influenced by the sum of effective temperatures (SET) before the onset of winter and the occurrence of the first early autumn frost (FRST). The objective of this study was to calculate the SET for three dates of CC sowing, August 20 (A), September 6 (B), and September 20 (C), from 1961 to 2020, based on daily data from 268 meteorological stations in the Czech Republic (CR). The dates of FRST, when the daily average and minimum temperatures at 2 m and the minimum temperature at the ground level fell below 0 °C, −3, and −5 °C during CC growth, were recorded. The analysis showed a significant trend in the average SET, which increased by 1.60, 0.87, and 0.97 °C per year for scenarios A, B, and C, respectively. As a result, the area where SET conditions allowed for CC flowering from autumn sowing expanded, as visualized in the agroclimatic maps of the country. The average dates of the FRST shifted by 0.05–0.11 days per year over the sixty years, but this was not significant due to high inter-annual variability. The SET was closely related to the average annual temperature and station elevation (r = ǀ0.95ǀ–ǀ0.99ǀ), while the corresponding trend relationships were weaker (r = ǀ0.40ǀ–ǀ0.43ǀ). Plant species phenology is an important driver of invasions in seasonal climates. The phenology of non‐natives is generally uncoupled from that of native species. Grasses cover a large proportion of the land surface and are important invaders around the world. Interestingly, the phenology of native and non‐native grasses could be modulated by the different metabolic pathways. We aimed to compare the vegetative and reproductive phenology of invasive C₄ grasses with that of coexisting native C₃ and C₄ grasses and to explore the relationship between phenology and climate. We recorded the onset, duration and synchronicity of vegetative and reproductive phenology (flowering and fruiting) during 1 year. Native C₃ grasses had 50% of their above‐ground biomass green earlier and remained in that state for a longer period than non‐native and native C₄ grasses. Flowering and fruiting occurred earlier in non‐native C₄ grasses than in native C₄ grasses. The flowering period was longer in non‐native C₄ than in native C₃ and C₄, with the non‐native Melinis repens (Poaceae), a highly invasive species worldwide, accounting for most of the difference. Non‐native C₄ tended to exhibit a lower flowering and fruiting synchrony than both native C₃ and C₄ species. Finally, reproductive and vegetative phenology was positively associated with temperature, while precipitation was mostly associated with C₄ species. The uncoupled vegetative phenology observed could be related to differences in metabolism among the studied species, while the uncoupled reproduction between non‐native and native C₄ grasses could be due to an advantage in resource use by non‐native species. Our work provides the first insight into the possible role of the species origin and metabolic pathways in the vegetative and reproductive phenology of invasive non‐native C₄ and native C₃ and C₄ grasses. Flowering time is a crucial rice trait that influences its adaptation to various environments, cropping schedules, and agronomic characteristics. Rice breeders have exploited spontaneous mutations in heading date genes to regulate the flowering time. In the present study, we investigated how breeders in Fukui Prefecture regulated days to heading while developing promising rice varieties. Genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) identified Hd1, Hd16, and Hd18 as the major genes controlling days to heading in the population. However, we suspected that this highly bred population might exhibit genomic stratification, which could lead to spurious or false correlations in the GWAS. Thus, we also conducted correlation and partial correlation analyses, which uncovered another key heading date gene, Hd17, that GWAS failed to detect because of its linkage disequilibrium with the major effect gene Hd16. Examination of haplotype frequencies across different breeding periods revealed that the early‐heading Hd16 (Hd16(E)) and late‐heading Hd17 (Hd17(L)) were increasingly co‐selected in the Hd1 functional population. Varieties carrying this Hd16(E)/Hd17(L) combination exhibited days to heading in the range of 70–80, which corresponds to the peak temperature and sunshine period and is also optimal for grain quality and yield components in the Fukui environment. The present study highlights that it is imperative to remain vigilant for Type I (false positives) and Type II (false negatives) errors when performing GWAS on highly bred populations and to implement appropriate countermeasures by accounting for gene‐by‐gene interactions established through the breeding process. Soil salinity is a serious environmental threat to plant growth and flowering. Flowering in the right place, at the right time, ensures maximal reproductive success for plants. Salinity‐delayed flowering is considered a stress coping/survival strategy and the molecular mechanisms underlying this process require further studies to enhance the crop's salt tolerance ability. A nuclear pore complex (NPC) component, HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENE 1 (HOS1), has been recognized as a negative regulator of plant cold responses and flowering. Here, we challenged the role of HOS1 in regulating flowering in response to salinity stress. Interestingly, we discovered that HOS1 can directly interact with and ubiquitinate transcription factor SPL9 (SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN‐LIKE 9) to promote its protein degradation in response to salinity stress. Moreover, we demonstrated that HOS1 and SPL9 antagonistically regulate plant flowering under both normal and salt stress conditions. HOS1 was further shown to negatively regulate the expression of SPLs and several key flowering genes in response to salinity stress. These results jointly revealed that HOS1 is an important integrator in the process of modulating salinity‐delayed flowering, thus offering new perspectives on a salinity stress coping strategy of plants. Gibberellins are key plant hormones, and their application in citrus plants is frequently reported. This review aims to provide an overview of the application of gibberellic acid (GA3) in citrus cultivation, emphasizing their effects on growth, flowering, fruit quality, and ripening. Citrus fruits often face challenges like irregular fruit set, size inconsistency, and environmental stress, impacting yield and profitability, with exogenous gibberellin application as a potential solution. Applying gibberellins can accelerate citrus seed germination and seedling growth, enhance vegetative growth, inhibit flowering, delay fruit ripening, and improve fruit quality. However, the efficacy of gibberellins varies across species and conditions, highlighting the need for reference studies. Background: Chickpea is a prominent leguminous crop cultivated in the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region. Historically, it is planted during the spring season as a rainfed crop in the area, characterized by its unpredictable and frequently inadequate precipitation. Methods: To examine the impact of various levels of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer on the yield and yield components of the Adel cultivar of chickpea, a factorial experiment was conducted based on a randomized complete block design with four replications at the research farm in Esfarayen Region in Khorasan-Iran (36.92 N, 57.55 E) throughout the 2022 and 2023 growing seasons. The experimental treatments included three levels of nitrogen: 30, 75 and 150 kg ha-1 as urea fertilizer. The irrigation was applied at three levels: full irrigation, one supplementary irrigation at the flowering stage and two supplementary irrigations at the flowering and pod filling stages. The studied traits included grain yield, biological yield, the number of pods per plant and the number of seeds per pod. Result: Our results showed that different levels of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer had a significant effect on the number of seeds per pod, pods per plant and biological and grain yield. The interaction effect of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer was significant for all studied traits. In this study, the interaction between the full irrigation treatment and 75 kg N ha-1 resulted in a significant increase in all traits (except biological yield) compared to other treatments. Furthermore, one irrigation at the flowering stage with 150 kg N ha-1 caused a significant decrease in all of the studied traits. The combination of full irrigation and 150 kg N ha-1 treatment had the highest biological yield (8.9 t ha-1), while its grain yield was 1854 kg ha-1. Therefore, by maintaining moisture levels during the critical period of chickpea growth and utilizing balanced nutritional levels, particularly nitrogen at rates of 30 and 75 kg ha-1, the yield of chickpea can be increased. LED light technology has been used in recent years in plant breeding due to its proven energy efficiency, low cost, and high quality for the enhancement of crops, including some aromatic medicinal plants (AMPs). Nonetheless, although several studies have shown that specific wavelengths can increase the content of bioactive compounds used by pharmaceutical, medical, and perfumery industries, there is limited information on this topic and the possible implications for plant stress in AMPs. The current systematic review focused on the effects of LED light on the physiological response, metabolite synthesis, and flowering induction in three important AMP genera: Lavandula, Salvia, and Thymus, belonging to the Lamiaceae family. A literature search was performed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. This review is reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The bibliographic analysis highlights the significant variation in physiological responses to different light spectra between species, even within the same genera, implying a need to optimize light conditions in each species to achieve the best results. Finally, this review provides essential information for laying the groundwork for future research focused on enhancing AMPs using LED light to overcome various types of stress. Cotton plant is a valuable technical crop grown in various regions of the world. For assessing the five colored cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) genotypes, the yield contributing traits received 60Co γ-ray irradiation at 0 (control), 100, 150, and 200 Gy. By treating colored cotton cultivars with 100 and 200 Gy rays, variations were visible in early maturity properties. An enhancement in bolls per plant were evident when treating the cream-colored cotton genotypes; however, a decrease occurred in the green-colored cotton genotype. Notably, the colored fiber genotypes treated with 200 Gy ray showed an increased number of bolls per plant. Colored fiber genotypes treated with 200 Gy ray caused a slight fiber elongation than with lower doses of 100 and 150 Gy and the control. The result further revealed cotton genotypes treated with 100 and 200 Gy rays positively affected the yield-contributing traits. Understanding the molecular mechanisms governing leaf morphogenesis and phase transition in Cannabis sativa is critical for optimizing its growth, development and yield. In this study, we conducted a comparative transcriptomic analysis to investigate the gene expression patterns associated with leaf development and the transition from vegetative to reproductive phases in cannabis plants. Following germination, cannabis plants display a distinct leaf developmental pattern. While the specific number of leaflets varies among cultivars, here we focused on the White Widow cultivar as a model. It showed an increase in the number of serrated leaflets from one (L1) to nine (L5) in a node-specific manner. Subsequently, the number of leaflets decreased from eight (L6) to three (L9). The transition from vegetative to reproductive phases, marked by the appearance of solitary flowers and a shift from opposite to alternate leaf phyllotaxy, occurred at node 7 and node 12, respectively. Analysis of gene expression revealed 1358 differentially expressed genes, with 1,182 genes showing differential expression across all leaves. Notably, several genes involved in leaf morphogenesis (e.g. YAB, AGO5, and TCP4) were found to be upregulated in compound leaves (L2) compared to simple leaves (L1), implying a role in leaflet formation and overall leaf morphology. Furthermore, several genes associated with phase transition and flowering (e.g. SPLs, ELFs, SOC1, and CEN-Like) exhibited specific expression patterns during the transition from vegetative to reproductive phases. Understanding reproductive phenology in tropical and subtropical forests is challenging. Thus, there are scarce large-scale phenological studies for those forests. Digitized herbarium collections can provide valuable information for understanding biological rhythms, e.g. timing of reproduction. Our aim was to verify the geographical variability of flowering and fruiting patterns and the effects of local climate on the reproductive phenology of woody species in the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot. We used herbarium records compiled from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility – GBIF, speciesLink, JABOT, and the "Portal de Datos de Biodiversidad Argentina" as a main source of data to assess differences in reproductive phenology for 10 species with wide geographical distribution in the Atlantic Forest. Contrary to our expectations, we observed a non-seasonal reproductive phenology of all species and relations with temperature in the northern forests and to precipitation in the southern forests. When considered individually, there was no obvious relationship between phenophases and climatic factors. We expected that species occurring in a broad geographic distribution would change their biological rhythms related to local environmental factors, but it is likely that widely distributed species are abundant exactly because they are less dependent on biophysical characteristics of the environment. This is the first study comparing species located in the northern and southern regions of the Atlantic Forest using herbarium data, highlighting its importance to understand large scale ecological rhythms in tropical biomes. In a warm winter due to climate warming, it is necessary to suppress early flowering of autumn-sown wheat plants. Here, we propose the use of cytoplasmic genome effects for this purpose. Alloplasmic lines, or cytoplasmic substitution lines, of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) have cytoplasm from a related wild Aegilops species through recurrent backcrossing and exhibit altered characteristics compared with the euplasmic lines from which they are derived. Thus, alloplasmic lines with Aegilops mutica cytoplasm show delayed flowering compared with lines carrying normal cytoplasm. In the wheat flowering pathway, VERNALIZATION 1 (VRN1) encodes an APETALA1/FRUITFULL-like MADS box transcription factor that plays a central role in the activation of florigen genes, which induce floral meristems in the shoot apex. Here, we compared expression of VRN1 alleles in alloplasmic and euplasmic lines after vernalization. We found that alloplasmic wheat showed a lower level of VRN1 expression after vernalization compared with euplasmic wheat. Thus, nuclear-cytoplasm interactions affect the expression levels of the nuclear VRN1 gene; these interactions might occur through the pathway termed retrograde signaling. In warm winters, autumn-sown wheat cultivars with spring habit can pass through the reproductive growth phase in very early spring, resulting in a decreased tiller/ear number and reduced yield performance. Here, we present data showing that an alloplasmic line of 'Fukusayaka' can avoid the decrease in tiller/ear numbers during warm winters, suggesting that this alloplasmic line may be useful for development of varieties adapted to global warming. Robinia pseudoacacia L., commonly known as black locust, is a nitrogen-fixing species characterized by multiple uses. Among these uses, black locust is of special interest to beekeepers due to its abundant flowering and delicious honey. Given the great importance of honey production in Italy, beekeepers are looking for genotypes that have a delayed flowering time. As a consequence, the aim of the present study was to develop a complete protocol of micropropagation for genotypes, which have been selected in the Veneto region due to their delayed flowering, i.e., about 3 months, in comparison with the normal flowering time (from late April to early June). The subsequent steps of the micropropagation protocol (explant decontamination, shoot induction, proliferation, and rooting) were investigated and optimized. The most effective decontamination treatment of explants (axillary buds from shoots developed in a greenhouse) was obtained using 50 mg/L AgNO3 for 20 min. This method resulted in the highest survival and regeneration rates for the explants (90%), although contamination was slightly higher than when using HgCl2 and NaOCl. The best medium for shoot establishment was MS with 1 mg/L of mT, which achieved 100% regeneration of the explants. In comparison with BA, mT at 1 mg/L was shown to be the best stimulator of shoot proliferation, especially in combination with 0.7 mg/L GA3 (Proliferation Rate, 4.7). An intermediate 2 h treatment with AgNO3, in combination with mT, was shown to be beneficial in improving the shoot proliferation and quality in the subsequent subculture in a gelled medium. As for shoot rooting, the shoots that were pre-treated in NH4NO3-free and mT-free MS medium gave the highest ex vitro rooting percentage in a cell tray (80%) and the highest number of roots per shoot (3.6). This optimized protocol opens the door to the massive micropropagation of valuable genotypes of black locust selected for delayed flowering. In recent years, pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) cultivation is undergoing a great expansion in Spain, which is promising for regions where water and winter chilling are not limiting. Many areas of Castilla y León (Spain) provide suitable conditions for pistachio production, but heat requirement could be a limiting factor. The aims of this study were (i) to investigate the status of pistachios in Castilla y León and the relationships between phenology and agroclimatic conditions and (ii) to assess the performance of three pistachio cultivars ('Kerman', 'Lost Hills', and 'Golden Hills') in a plantation within this region. This work describes the phenological and productive behavior of three pistachio varieties in seven orchards over three years. The chilling requirements were exceeded, and heat accumulation was sufficient to complete the cycle in all seasons. Bloom and harvest occurred later in 'Kerman' than in 'Golden Hills' and 'Lost Hills'. In general, 'Kerman' had higher nut yield than the other two cultivars but also had more non-split and blank nuts, aspects that should be considered for future plantations. Despite the interannual variability in yield, a trend to increase the production with water received was observed, but this also affected the quality and modified the splitting percentage. Abstract White lupin (Lupinus albus L.) is an ancient grain legume that is still undergoing improvement of domestication traits, including vernalization-responsiveness, providing frost tolerance and preventing winter flowering in autumn-sowing agriculture, and vernalization-independence, conferring drought escape by rapid flowering in spring-sowing. A recent genome-wide association study highlighted several loci significantly associated with the most contrasting phenotypes, including deletions in the promoter of the FLOWERING LOCUS T homolog, LalbFTc1, and some DArT-seq/silicoDArT loci. The present study aimed to develop and validate a versatile PCR marker array enabling molecular selection of spring- and winter-type white lupin ecotypes. Candidate DArT-seq and silicoDArT loci were transformed into cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) or derived CAPS markers. Developed markers, together with those previously published for LalbFTc1 INDELs and quantitative trait loci from linkage maps, were implemented for screening of white lupin germplasm panel subjected to 2-year phenotyping of phenology traits. Three DArT-seq, two silicoDArT and seven LalbFTc1 INDEL markers were positively validated, constituting a convenient PCR-based marker assay for rapid and accurate reselection of white lupin germplasm towards early flowering and thermoneutrality or late flowering and vernalization-responsiveness, as well as for tracking high genetic and phenotypic diversity within white lupin landraces, revealed in the present study.

[Objective] The study aims to explore the effects of three kinds of growth regulators on the flowering and branch physiological characteristics of Paeonia rockii and to provide theoretical basis for the chemical regulation of flowering traits of P . rockii. [Methods] With ‘Xiangyabai’ from Guantangou P . rockii Cultivation Base in Yuzhong County, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province as the material, three kinds of growth regulators (IAA, GA3, and 6-BA) at concentrations of 100, 300 and 500 mg/L were sprayed on the leaves before flower bud differentiation, with water as the control. The changes of physiological indexes, including flowering at full-bloom stage, antioxidant enzyme activity, and osmotic adjustment substance content of branches, were investigated. [Results] Compared with the control, the three growth regulators increased the number of flowers and the rate of double-petal flowers to varying degrees, and the effect of 500 mg/L 6-BA treatment was the best. The SOD activity, POD activity, and Pro content of the single-petal branches and double-petal branches were the highest. The activities of SOD, POD, and CAT in the branches of P . rockii were positively correlated with the number of flowers and the rate of doublepetal flowers, which played an important role in the flowering process, with SOD was more prominent. The number of flowers, rate of double-petal flowers, and physiological indexes of the branches were the best under the treatment of 500 mg/L 6-BA, 500 mg/L GA3, and 300 mg/L GA3, respectively. [Conclusion] The three growth regulators directly or indirectly increased flowering number and stamen petaling degree of P . rockii through the physiological indexes of the branches, but there were differences in the degree of promotion, among which the number of flowering and the rate of double petaling of the 500 mg/L 6-BA treatment increased the most.
