The Balkan Wars, which affected the Ottoman Empire in many ways and from various points, deeply injured the society, especially in cultural, ideological and regional contexts. Moreover, the process in question can be identified by the clarity of the signs of disintegration. However, it also includes contradictions in terms of motivation, social solidarity and organization, and creates a chain of events that affects the entire state. In this research; answers were sought to the questions about how the wars in question were reflected in the Diyarbakır Province, which is located in a region far from the Balkan geography, what the effect was as a result, and what kind of activities were carried out as a reaction. Particularly, the policies that local authorities tried to produce within the framework of the Balkan wars, the people's perspective on what happened and the migration movements, public order problems and the economic situation as a result of these developments were evaluated. Syrian women constitute a significant part of the refugee population migrating to Türkiye. In the refugee crisis that started in 2011, humanitarian aid was given priority. However, meeting the needs of Syrian women who have been living in Türkiye requires long-term plans aiming at their economic integration. At this point, the difficulties experienced by Syrian women take place in a wide range. At the last point of the refugee crisis, from the 2023 general elections to the changing attitudes of the employers, the dynamics of the society were greatly affected, and the difficulties experienced in the economic integration of Syrian women continued to increase. As Syrian women are a crucial part of the refugee crisis, it is necessary to investigate the problems they face to propose solutions. Researching and identifying these problems is not only significant academically but also useful for policy-makers in identifying the main issues when developing policies for solutions. Thus, this study examines the difficulties experienced in the economic integration of Syrian women living in Türkiye. It has been determined that the problems experienced are collected in certain areas: working conditions, cultural, social, and bureaucratic problems. The difficulties of Syrian women are discussed under these headings. As a result, inadequate regulations lead to abuse by employers and unfavorable working conditions, and this reduces the motivation of Syrian women to seek employment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Jewish immigration journey to America began in 1654 when a Jewish community of 23 people arrived in New Amsterdam (New York) in North America and continued in the following years. This immigration adventure is mainly divided into three periods. The naming of these periods was influenced by the ethnic origins of the Jews who immigrated to America from Europe. These periods are the Sephardic Period, which covers the period between 1654-1820, the German Period, which refers to the period between 1820-1880, and finally, the Eastern European Period, which characterizes the period between 1881-1924. The Sephardic Period, which covers the years between 1654 and 1820, is divided into the Colonial Period (1654-1776) and the Early National Period (1776-1820). The Colonial Period is further classified as the Dutch Period (1654-1664) and the British Period (1664-1776). The difficult situation of the Jews living in Germany and later in Tsarist Russia, the laws enacted against them, their being forced to live under oppression and persecution, and great economic hardship forced Jews to migrate to America, known as the New World. In each wave of immigration, Jews faced great difficulties. Being uneducated and penniless, having to leave their families behind, not speaking English, and even their Jewish identity are the main reasons for their difficulties. Despite all this, American Jews have gained new rights and freedoms in the context of economy, education, politics, and culture. In this environment of freedom, they have achieved unimaginable success in almost every field. Jews who started as peddlers in America became rich enough to open stores and even establish banks. The children of uneducated Jews proved themselves as doctors, lawyers, and teachers. While achieving these successes, they had to overcome great hardships occasionally. As a result of all this, America has become the second homeland of the Jews after Israel, with a Jewish population of nearly seven million. On the other hand, this study, which aims to outline the immigration history of American Jews who play an active role in world politics and economy, is important in contributing to the understanding of American Jews themselves and their power. Background: The microfluidic‐based Glomerulus‐on‐Chips (GoC) are mostly cell based, that is, 3D cell culture techniques are used to culture glomerular cells in order to mimic glomerular ultrafiltration. These chips require high maintenance to keep cell viability intact. There have been some approaches to build non‐cell‐based GoCs but many of these approaches have the drawback of membrane fouling. This article presents a structural design and simulation study of a dialysate free microfluidic channel for replicating the function of the human glomerular filtration barrier. The key advancement of the current work is addressing the fouling issue by combining a pre‐filter to eliminate cellular components and performing filtration on the blood plasma. Methods: The Laminar Flow Mixture Model in COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6 has been utilized to simulate the behavior of blood flow in the microchannels. The geometrical effect of microchannels on the separation of the filtrate was investigated. The velocity at the inlet of the microchannel and pore size of the filtration membrane are varied to see the change in outflow and filtration fraction. Results: The efficiency of the device is calculated in terms of the filtration fraction (FF%) formed. Simulation results show that the filtrate obtained is ~20% of the plasma flow rate in the channel, which resembles the glomerular filtration fraction. Conclusion: Given that it is not dependent on the functionality of grown cells, the proposed device is anticipated to have a longer lifespan due to its non‐cell‐based design. The device's cost can be reduced by avoiding cell cultivation inside of it. Uyum konusu gerek sosyal psikolojinin gerekse sosyolojinin önemli konularından biridir. Göç, yerleşik kültürlerde birçok faktörün etkili olduğu psiko-sosyal uyum olgusunu derinden etkileyen faktörlerdendir. Literatürde az da olsa uyum konusunda işlevsel ölçek bulunmakla birlikte göçmenler üzerinde kullanılabilecek ölçekler yok denecek kadar az sayıdadır. Göçmenlere ulaşmanın güçlüğü, dil yeterliliği ve göçmenlerin tecrübi araştırmalara katılmaya kolay ikna olmaması gibi nedenler; göç deneyimi yaşayan bireylerle yapılacak çalışmalarda kullanılabilecek ölçeklerin az sayıda olmasının başlıca nedenlerindendir. Çalışmada görece uzun bir zaman dilimi farklı bir kültürde yaşayan göçmenlerin yaşadıkları yeni ortamlarına uyum düzeylerini ölçmek amacıyla geliştirilen ölçeğin psikometrik özellikleri sunulmuştur. Ölçek geliştirme sürecinde 40 madde halinde hazırlanan taslak formuyla Türkiye’nin farklı illerinde yaşayan 600 Afgan (Özbek) göçmenle yüz yüze görüşmeler sonucunda veriler elde edilmiştir. Katılımcılar en az beş yıldan beri Türkiye’de yaşayan 15 yaş üstü Afgan (Özbek) göçmenlerden seçilmiştir. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliliğini tespit etmek amacıyla 320 katılımcıyla açımlayıcı faktör analizi gerçekleştirilmiş, bu analiz sonucunda 25 maddeden oluşan beş boyutlu bir yapı elde edilmiştir. Boyutlar sırasıyla “davranış-alt kültürü koruma”, “aidiyet”, “yerel halkla kaynaşma”, “duygusal tatmin” ve “otoriteyle ilişkiler” şeklinde isimlendirilmiştir. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda oluşan yapıyı doğrulamak amacıyla 250 katılımcılı ikinci bir göçmen grubuyla uygulama gerçekleştirilmiş ve elde edilen verilere uygulanan doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonuçları ölçeğin beş faktörlü yapısını büyük ölçüde desteklediği görülmüştür. Ölçeğin güvenirliliğini gösteren Cronbach alpha katsayısı α=.76 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ölçekle ilgili üretilen psikometrik veriler topluca değerlendirildiğinde geliştirilen ölçeğin göç deneyimi yaşayan göçmenlerle yapılacak çalışmalarda kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

Nedeni, oluşum süreci ve sonuçları göç eden kişi, aile veya topluluğa göre değişen göç, tek bir olay üzerinden incelenebileceği gibi genel değendirmelerle de ele alınabilir. Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada, bir metropol kentteki hemşehri kümelenmesi nedenleri ve mekansal örüntüleri bakımından ele alınmıştır. Hemşehri kümelenmeleri iç göç süreçleri bağlamında değerlendirilmiş ve ilişkiler ağı (network) teorisi ile bağlantı kurulmuştur. Bursa ilinde ikamet edenlerin Bursalılar dışında en çok Erzurumluların olması Erzurumlular özelinde bu çalışmanın hazırlanmasında etkili olmuştur. Bu kapsamda Bursa ilinin metropoliten ilçeleri olan Osmangazi, Yıldırım, Nilüfer, Kestel, Gürsu ilçelerine bağlı olan 332 mahallesi çalışma sahası olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada Bursa kentindeki Erzurumlu kümelenmesi araştırılmış, nicel veriler ve sahada gerçekleştirilen görüşmeler ile kümelenmenin varlığı belirlenmiştir.Karma araştırma yönteminin açıklayıcı ardışık deseni kapsamında hazırlanan çalışmanın birinci aşamasında mekânsal otokorelasyon tekniklerinden küresel Moran’s I ve Anselin yerel Moran’s I (LISA) teknikleri kullanılarak Bursa kentindeki Erzurum iline kayıtlı nüfusun mekânsal örüntüleri ortaya konulmuştur. İkinci aşamasında ise bu örüntü üzerinde hemşehri varlığı ile sosyo-kültürel ve ekonomik unsurların etkili olup olmadığını tespit etmek amacıyla Erzurumlu nüfus ile görüşmeler yapılmış, elde edilen sonuçlar ise içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir.Yapılan analizler sonucunda Erzurum iline kayıtlı nüfusun mekânsal olarak Bursa kentinin 39 mahallesinde kümelendiği tespit edilmiştir. Kümelenmede en fazla mahalleye sahip ilçenin Yıldırım olduğu belirlenmiştir. İçerik analizi sonucunda ise yaşanılan mahallenin seçiminde, Bursa’ya uyum sağlanmasında ve kültürel değerlerin yaşatılmasında hemşehri varlığının etkili olduğu sonuçlarına varılmıştır. Ayrıca gerek göç etme durumunda tercih edilen mahallelerde gerekse yeni evlenen çiftlerin yerleşim yeri tercihlerinde Erzurumlu nüfus olmasının önemsenmesi hemşehri etkisinin kümelenme üzerinde gelecekte de devam edeceğini göstermiştir.

Ağrı Dağı, doğal, kültürel ve tarihsel yönüyle yerküre üzerinde en çok bilinen dağlardan biridir. Bu görkemli dağın kuzey yamaçlarında derin bir vadide kurulan ve köklü bir tarihsel geçmişe sahip olan Ahura köyü (şimdiki adı Yenidoğan köyü), tarih boyunca farklı yüzyıllarda Ağrı Dağı’nı ziyaret eden seyyahların, bilim insanlarının ve misyonerlerin uğrak yeriydi. Nuh peygamber ve çocuklarının buradan dünyaya yayıldığı inancı nedeniyle zamanla “kutsal mitolojik” bir özellik kazanan köy, 19.yüzyılda Ağrı Dağı’nın kültürel coğrafyasına damgasını vurmuştu. Kuruluş tarihi, 8. yüzyıla kadar uzanan Ahura köyü, 1840’ta depremle ilişkilendirilen yıkıcı bir kütle hareketiyle yerle bir olmasına rağmen kısa bir süre sonra yeniden kurulmuş ve günümüze kadar varlığını devam ettirmiştir. Bu çalışma, etnografik yapısıyla, yerel bir doğal felaket geçmişi olan tarihi Ahura köyünün anlatılmamış hikayesini duyulur kılmayı, bu kadim köyün görünürlüğünü artırmayı, 1840’taki yok oluşu hatırlatan coğrafi risklere ve son yıllarda kronik bir sorun haline gelen göçün nedenlerine-sonuçlarına dikkat çekmeyi amaçlamaktadır. 2022-2024 yılları arasında gerçekleştirilen saha çalışmaları ve mülakatlara dayanan bu çalışma, Ahura köyünün yerel köy sakinlerinin hafıza mekânına dönüştüğünü, yerel dezavantajlara ve coğrafi risklere rağmen belirli bir yaş üstü köy sakinlerinin yaşadıkları yere karşı bir aidiyet bağı kurduklarını ve yakın geçmişte bölgenin sosyo-ekonomik cazibesini yitirmesiyle göçün hızlandığını (özellikle gençler arasında) ortaya koymaktadır.

As the European Union launched its New Pact on Migration and Asylum on 23 September 2020, many anticipated certain changes in foreign policies of EU member states. Within this context, migration diplomacy was not the exception. Regarding this inference, this article will examine the following question: How will the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum impact migration diplomacy? Concerning this question, in this article, I will try to defend the idea that although the New Pact strengthens the interdependency between EU member states, immigration towards EU member states will be complicated, which will raise the importance of migration diplomacy among migration-receiving, migration-sending, or transit states. With respect to this claim, after the introduction part, this research paper will first focus on the concept of migration diplomacy, and the discussion of the term from realist theoretical framework. After this, the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum will be examined, and its comparison with the 2008 EU’s Pact on Migration and Asylum will be made. Before the concluding remark, the impact of the New Pact on migration diplomacy will be discussed. In the conclusion part, an overall evaluation will be made. This research paper will be a qualitative study. In particular, the data about decision taken in the New Pact on Migration and Asylum will be gathered from both primary and secondary resources through document analysis.

One of the biggest issues facing humanity in the current century is mass migration from the developing to the industrialized world. While some migrations are legal, many others are not, which poses danger and risk, and are frequently fatal. In Sub-Saharan Africa, emigration through Libya tremendously increased after 2011 following the collapse of Qaddafi’s government, which led to civil war and the absence of a powerful government to enforce law and order in the country. Even though thousands of migrants die every year trying to cross the Mediterranean into Europe, many African youths still scramble to emigrate from the continent using both legal and illegal means. This study analyses how economic hardships and political instability act as push factors for emigration from Cameroon, as well as the risks faced during the emigration process. The paper also addresses the challenges faced by Cameroonian immigrants in their host country and the socioeconomic impact of emigration on Cameroon and concludes that push factors are more influential than pull factors in driving irregular immigration from Cameroon.

The global refugee crisis presents significant challenges to economic development, especially in developing countries and regions that host large numbers of refugees. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research conducted on the effects of refugees on economic development over the past three decades. The study utilized the Web of Science (WoS) database to identify and analyze scholarly publications related to the topic of economic impact of refugees. The analysis focused on trends, patterns, and key themes in the literature. The results indicate a growing body of research on the topic, with particular emphasis on the effects of refugees on food aid, market outcomes, labor markets, and macroeconomic performance. The study examines the economic impact of refugees to countries, specifically their effects on labor markets, housing, food prices, and employment sectors. The study employs bibliometric analysis to systematically review and synthesize existing research, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on the subject. The findings enhance comprehension of the economic consequences of refugee movements and can guide policy and practice in the realm of economic development and refugee integration. Documentary cinema is a type of film in which facts are conveyed through the language of film and the director's original approach. The 2022 documentary Love, Deutschmarks and Death tells the story of the immigrants from Turkey to Germany since 1961 and the generations that followed them through their music culture. Migration from Turkey to Germany and its effects have been analyzed in many studies. There are also studies examining how migration is conveyed in fiction films and documentary cinema. However, there is no study that examines how migration is conveyed in documentary cinema with German in particular and music culture. This situation shows the importance of this study. The music culture described reflects realities in an artistic style, just like documentary cinema does. When the music depicting the problems of immigrants is combined with the documentary's depiction of immigrants through this music, a layered and effective narrative emerges. This study examines how the documentary Love, Deutschmarks and Death conveys immigrants and music culture through the elements of documentary cinema. How the music, interviews and archives in the content of the documentary are used, how they are connected or edited with each other, and how the music used reflects social realities are analyzed through content analysis. It has been observed that the documentary Love, Deutschmarks and Death narrates the social effects of migration by blending it with music culture and uses interviews and archives, which are the prominent elements of documentary films, with a subtle editing style. In this study, the effects of migration, which has become a current problem, on education and the problems experienced by students with migration were tried to be determined according to some variables. It is hoped that the determination of teachers' views on the educational problems of school-age children coming to Türkiye with immigration can contribute to future studies in this field. The research was conducted with qualitative method and case study design of qualitative research method was used. A semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. The study group of the research consists of 50 teachers working in five primary schools in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır province and selected according to the criterion sampling technique. Main themes, sub-themes and codes were created by content analysis of the data obtained. It can be said that the most intensely experienced problems of immigrant students in terms of adaptation are inability to speak Turkish and communication, which is a predicted finding. In addition, having problems in socialisation, grouping, anger, aggression and culture conflict can be considered as another expected situation. While teachers were able to communicate with the migrant student after a certain period of time, it was found that they could not communicate with the family or had difficulty in this regard. Rituals are symbolic and physical elements of beliefs and experiences. Individuals' and societies' relationships with nature and struggle for survival within nature have led to the creation of various practices. All these practices, when manifested symbolically within the context of belief systems, are called rituals. Therefore, every change in the relationship between the individual, society, and nature results in a change in rituals. Migration, urbanization, technological advancement, and globalization cause many elements concerning individuals and society to change. Changes that affect societies' social, cultural, economic, and religious lives have led to functional and structural changes in rituals performed within the traditional context. Thus, rituals passed down in traditional societies with their traditional and symbolic structures have undergone semantic and formal changes in rapidly changing modern societies. At the core of these changes lies the necessity for individuals to adapt to contemporary socio-economic conditions. Rituals has a power that shapes community in many ways with their mythic and theological backgrounds. Rituals determine the doctrinal and social structure of Alevi belief system. For the Alevi community, rituals hold the power to transmit cultural and social values, as well as to define the belief system with its mythic and theological background. Traditional Alevi rituals shape the entire lives of their followers. Members of the faith learn and transmit all components of their socio-cultural and economic environment through ritual-centered practices. Despite all political and social events, Alevi communities managed to sustain their ritual-centered traditional belief systems and lifestyles until the 1960s. However, migration after this period rapidly led to the transformation and alteration of ritual-centered life. Alevi communities experienced a culture shock due to their rituals not being accepted by the "other's. This situation compelled them to conceal their beliefs and remain invisible. The process experienced after migration and urbanization has resulted in the weakening of traditional belief systems among Alevi individuals. During this period where non-governmental organizations are increasingly dominant and influential, the social and cultural demands of Alevi communities who come together under the leadership of non-governmental organizations in the city have led to the transformation and reconstruction of traditional Alevi rituals. Therefore, the traditional structure and rituals of the Alevi belief system have undergone a transition from their traditional context to a new world influenced by factors such as migration, urbanization, modern life, and the rejection of dominant authority. This article discusses the change and re-creation of rituals away from the traditional context in urban life following social and economic demands in the context of fieldwork conducted in Türkiye, Germany, and Austria. In the current period when climate change begins to reshape the world and its people, Türkiye is also affected by this change both in terms of climate and society. Due to both political and natural reasons, Türkiye has been exposed to intense immigration in recent years. The country, which was only a transit route in the past, has now become the final destination of migration. Türkiye, which has a naturally growing population structure, has had another sudden growth factor brought about by immigration. Accordingly, Türkiye's natural resources that will sustain life and economic activity have come under increasing pressure. These resources include water resources. The research question of the study is "Can the available freshwater resources of Türkiye withstand the population pressure that grows with intense migration in the future?" The analysis was carried out using the qualitative method based on available quantitative data and using the Falkenmark and Shiklomanov indicators. It is aimed to fill a gap in the literature by addressing the relationship between Türkiye's migration and freshwater resources in the context of the indicators in question. As a result, even if Türkiye's available freshwater resources continue to be under pressure in the future as they are now, the country's natural population growth will not push the country's resources below the water scarcity limit. This study focuses on the migration processes, lives in the new settlements, and expectations for the future of elderly individuals who migrated after the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. The aim of this research is to examine social effects of forced migration from the perspective of elderly individuals and to reveal their life experiences after forced migration. The research was carried out in a field research model. It is case study based. Information was collected about 15 individuals over the age of 65 with a semi-structured interview form. In the study, it was determined that the process of each elderly person experiencing migration differs and that cultural structure, economic situation, psychological characteristics and personality traits of the individual are decisive in this. The fact that the place where elderly individuals migrated was their hometown and was close to the place where the migration originated positively affected their adaptation to the environment. It has been determined that migrating individuals experience problems in terms of health, transportation, lack of economic income, shopping opportunities, loneliness and fear of earthquakes. The majority of the elderly were found willing to migrate back. It is hoped that this study will be useful in determining targets for supporting elderly individuals after forced migration. Following the Ottoman Empire's loss of Balkan territories, a population exchange between Türkiye and Greece was proposed to aid mistreated Muslim Turks and create a homogeneous nation-state. The Turkish-Greek Population Exchange Agreement of January 30, 1923, mandated the exchange of Muslims in Greece (excluding Western Thrace) and Greek Orthodox Christians in Turkey (excluding Istanbul, Gökçeada and Bozcaada). Settlement areas for immigrants were identified and preparations completed. Due to its location, transportation facilities, climate, fertile lands, and opportunities, the Sakarya region has historically been a key settlement area for immigrants. The aim of our study is to focus on the settlement processes of the immigrants in the Serdivan district of Sakarya and the problems they faced during this process, their adaptation processes, their contributions to the economic, social, political and cultural structure of the region. The study emphasizes the long-standing ability to live together in harmony and brotherhood. It is intended that the evaluations made will also contribute to solving some of the problems encountered in the current process of immigrant integration and peaceful coexistence with the local community. The state of war in Syria forces people to migrate. The outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011 resulted in Syrians migrating to Turkey. According to December 22, 2022, data, there are 3 million 543 thousand 837 Syrians with temporary protection status in Turkey. Approximately 88 thousand of them live in Kilis. The ratio to the local population is about 60 per cent. However, this ratio has been observed to be around 97 per cent in 2017. This study investigated why the Syrian, which has significantly decreased, migrated from Kilis. The aim of the study is to determine whether their expectations are met in the provinces when they leave Kilis. Due to its relevance to the subject, interviews were conducted with Syrians who had migrated from Kilis using qualitative research methods. The data collection instrument used was a semi-structured interview. The purposive sampling technique was used within the scope of the study. The result of the research showed that Syrians had problems making a living due to the lack of job opportunities in Kilis, and they found the solution by going to another place where they could make a living thanks to their social capital. In addition, it was also concluded that although they can make a living where they go, Syrians do not fully feel the belonging they feel in Kilis. Finally, although there are studies about Syrians in Kilis, none has addressed the reasons for the migration of Syrians living in Kilis to other places. Migration, driven by various factors, often leads to individuals encountering numerous challenges. Children, who often migrate involuntarily, are a significant aspect of this process. Turkey receives immigrants from various countries annually, with migration movements from the Russian Federation being particularly noteworthy. This research investigated the issues faced by children who migrated from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey with their families. These issues include discrimination, bullying, violent behaviors, adaptation problems, and ostracism. The research was conducted using qualitative methods, involving in-depth interviews with participating individuals. The findings were examined in three categories: pre-migration, during migration, and post-migration. The findings revealed that migrant children faced problems such as separation from some family members, inability to influence the decision to migrate, housing problems, and longing for elements and individuals in the abandoned region. Within the educational setting of the host country, problems such as inability to communicate with teachers and peers, instances of bullying at school, inability to comprehend lessons, and inability to enroll in school were observed. The findings also showed problems in different areas of life, such as difficulty in communicating with peers, experiencing physical and psychological violence from peers, inability to express oneself in the face of violence, difficulty in learning Turkish, taking on adult roles in the language acquisition process, experiencing exclusion and discrimination, experiencing health problems more frequently, hesitating to apply to health institutions, and unfulfilled expectations related to the migration process. Human capital is accepted as an indicator of individuals' education, experience, knowledge and skills. Having a high level of human capital is one of the factors that facilitates the process of adaptation for immigrants to their new country of residence. On the other hand, the level of human development attracts immigrants to these regions with factors such as better living conditions, human rights and employment opportunities. Therefore, countries with strong human capital and human development elements are attractive for people who want to migrate due to features such as strong labor markets, quality of life, educational opportunities and economic development. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of human capital on migration in European Union (EU) countries through the mediating roles of human development and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. In this context, a model proposal was presented and path analysis was carried out with SEM with the data of EU countries between 2000 and 2020. Analysis findings show that human capital has a significant and positive effect on migration. In accordance with global migration trends, Russian geography became a source of emigration starting from the mid-19th century. On the other hand, following their independence in the early 19th century, Latin American countries became recipients of migration waves from different countries, including multinational Eurasian states such as Ottoman, Russian, and Austria-Hungarian empires. The migration wave from Russian Empire to Latin America started around the 1850s and lasted until the collapse of the empire in 1917. Argentina was the leading destination of emigration for the early migrant Russian citizens who were then officially called the “Ruso” and came from various ethnic and religious backgrounds. Within the context of this paper, which focuses on the migration and adaptation processes of Ruso immigrants in Argentina, the social, economic, cultural, and religious dimensions of their new lives are discussed. The paper concludes that early Ruso immigrants eventually constituted a labor diaspora and, despite being ethnically and religiously the most heterogeneous migrant movement from the Russian geography, Russian language, and culture continued their dominancy in the lives of at least the first immigrant generation. Purpose: Code status orders are standard practice impacting end-of-life care for individuals. This study reviews the impact of a COVID unit on physician behaviors towards goal-concordant end-of-life care at an urban academic tertiary-care hospital. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of code status ordering on adult inpatients comparing the pre-pandemic period to patients who tested positive, negative and were not tested during the pandemic from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2020. Results: We analyzed 59,471 unique patient encounters (n = 35,317 pre-pandemic and n = 24,154 during). 1,631 cases of COVID-19 were seen. The rate of code status orders among all inpatients increased from 22% pre-pandemic to 29% during the pandemic (P <.001). Code status orders increased for both patients who were COVID-negative (32% P <.001) and COVID-positive (65% P <.001). Being in a cohorted COVID unit increased code status ordering by an odds of 4.79 (P <.001). Compared to the pre-pandemic cohort, the COVID-positive cohort is less female (50% to 56% P <.001), more Black (66% to 61% P <.001), more Hispanic (6.5% to 5%) and less white (26% to 30% P <.001). Compared to Black patients, white patients had lower odds (.86) of code status ordering (P <.001). Other race/ethnicity categories were not significant. Conclusions: Code status ordering remains low. Compared to pre-pandemic rates, the frequency of orders placed significantly increased for all patients during the pandemic. The largest increase occurred in patients with COVID-19. Göç, topluluklarda belirgin değişimlere neden olan ve kültürel farklılıklar yaratan bir olgusal süreçtir. Bu süreç doğrultusunda yeni yapılandırmalar, kaynak ve hedef ülkenin sosyal, kültürel, siyasal ve demografik düzleminde açığa çıkan farklılıkları belirginleştirmektedir. Bu kapsamda 2011 yılı itibariyle meydana gelen dünyanın en büyük krizlerinden biri olarak nitelendirilen Suriye’de açığa çıkan iç karışıklıklar, Türkiye’ye ilk olarak 252 kişinin gelmesinin ardından kısa zamanda kitlesel bir göç hareketine dönüşmüştür. Buna bağlı olarak Türkiye’nin göçmen politikasının değişmesi ve Suriyelilerin ülkede bulundukları konumun farklılaşması önemli bir biçimde yerel halkı etkilemektedir. Bu doğrultuda kamuoyunun sosyal etkileşim süreçlerinde kategorik karşılaştırmaların açığa çıkması, etnisite odaklı ön yargıların varlığı, Suriyeli vatandaşlar hakkında kalıp yargıların açığa çıkmasına sebebiyet vermiştir. Bu kapsamda bu çalışma, göç öncesi, göç süreci ve göç sonrasında yaşanan problemlerin farklı grup ve kurumlarda yarattığı etkilerin belirlenmesini ve toplumsal cinsiyet kalıpları dahilinde uyum dengesinin, kimlik ve aidiyet problemlerinin anlaşılmasını hedeflemektedir. Bu doğrultuda Marmara Üniversitesi Uluslararası Öğrenci Topluluğuna mensup olan sekiz Suriyeli kadınla nitel yönteme dayalı mülakat aracılığıyla saha çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda Suriyeli kadınların savaş ve zorlu yaşam koşulları nedeniyle göç etmeye kalkıştıkları, göç sürecinde damgalamaların kaçınılmaz hale geldiği hem kendi ülkelerinde hem de Türkiye’de toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliklerini kültürel bir şekilde deneyimledikleri, buna bağlı olarak aidiyet algılarında değişim yaşandığı dikkat çekmektedir.

Altındağ olayları; 10 Ağustos 2021 tarihinde Ankara ilinde birkaç Türk ve Suriyeli genç arasında çıkan asayiş sorununun ardından bir kitlenin sokaklara çekilmesiyle Altındağ semtinin yoğun olarak Önder, Ulubey, Battalgazi, Hüseyin Gazi, Karapürçek, Solfasol, Baraj ve çevre mahallelerinde mukim Suriyelilere yönelik gerçekleşen şiddet olayları ve kargaşanın adı olmuştur. Altındağ olayları ulusal ve uluslararası medyaya Suriyeli sığınmacılar ile Türk toplumu arasında büyük bir kırılmanın başlangıcı olarak yansıtılmıştır. Buna rağmen bu süreç yaşanan endişenin aksine kısa sürede durularak nihayetlenmiştir. Altındağ olaylarının yatışmasında etkili olan pek çok faktör bulunmaktadır. Söz konusu olayların durum çalışması (örnek olay-case study) olarak mercek altına alındığı nitel bir alan araştırması olan bu makalede, iki toplum arasındaki sosyal temas sürecini etkileyen dinî ve sosyo-kültürel ortaklıkların toplumsal uyumu güçlendiren rolü ele alınmış ve Suriyelilerin inanç ve pratiklerinin çatışma sürecindeki davranışlarına etkisi irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla Ankara ilinde ikamet eden ve Altındağ olaylarını yaşamış olan 11 kişi ile yüz yüze görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Araştırmada Suriyeli sığınmacıların yerel halk ile özellikle dinî ve sosyo-kültürel ortaklıklar temelinde kurduğu sosyal ilişkilerin onların toplumsal uyum sürecini kolaylaştırıcı etkiye sahip olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Ayrıca bu süreçte her ne kadar olaylar üzerine sıkı güvenlik önlemleri alınmış olsa da çatışmanın büyümesinin önündeki en büyük engellerden birinin geçmiş yıllar içerisinde Suriyeliler ile yerel halk arasında gerçekleşen sosyal temas sürecinin olumlu çıktıları olduğu da elde edilen bulgular arasındadır.

Globalization is turning into a phenomenon that shapes and accelerates migration. The displacement of global capital movements, regional wars, and the intersection of the search for a better life with technology has made the phenomenon of migration one of the important agenda items of the global public sphere. Countries have difficulty stopping human movements that push the boundaries. The economic and social consequences of the increasing migration on a global scale are more frequently encountered by local people. The media is an important tool in shaping public opinion, as it is a platform where the topic of migration is discussed from various perspectives. Similarly, local media is an area where the issue of migration, a global problem, is addressed from different angles. In local media, which mostly reports on local events, global events are inevitably covered as well. The issue of migration has become one of the important topics for local media. In this context, the problem of the study is to understand the opinions of local journalists about the issue of migration. This study aims to determine how local journalists approach the phenomenon of migration in the context of globalization. In addition, the study analyzes local journalists' thoughts about globalization, economy, socio-cultural and media. In the study, phenomenology, one of the qualitative research designs, was conducted. In-depth interviews were conducted as a data collection technique in the study. A rapid migration movement from rural to urban areas has been in effect since the 1950s in our country. The urbanization experienced during this process, as a result of industrialization, is not characterized by an orderly urban development but rather exhibits the characteristics of an unhealthy urbanization. The migration from rural to urban areas has brought with it a multitude of problems in cities, including shantytown construction, population growth, unemployment, and an increase in crime and deviance rates. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of migration on deviant behaviors in the city. For this purpose, the film Gurbet Kuşları, which was released in 1964 and addresses the phenomenon of post-1950 migration, was analyzed using the discourse analysis technique within the framework of qualitative research method. In this analysis, the main question to be answered was: How does the phenomenon of migration experienced during the rapid and irregular urbanization process affect deviant behaviors, which are among the most significant social issues? An answer to this question was sought from the perspectives of social ecology, subculture, stigmatization, anomie, and social control theories. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that the adaptation issues arising as a result of migration from rural to urban areas lead to deviant behavior. In the 21st century, the diversification of communication and transportation opportunities has not only facilitated regular migration movements but also led to changes in the volume and dimensions of irregular migration. Migrants not only significantly influence the demographic, sociological, and economic structures of the countries they move to but have also become subjects of security concerns. Member countries of the European Union (EU) are targeted by migration movements due to attractive factors such as high living and working conditions, economic prosperity, and governance styles that respect human rights. Claims that migrants threaten the societal security of the EU by affecting its language, religion, cultural values, traditions, and national identities have become frequent topics of discussion in political and academic circles. In this regard, the main aim of the study is to determine whether migration poses a threat to the societal security of the EU or if such a perception exists in EU society.
