Monitoring the condition of agricultural lands in the Chechen Republic using geographic information systems (GIS) is an important tool for assessing and managing agricultural resources in the region. This paper discusses modern GIS methods and technologies used to analyze land conditions, including their use to identify land use changes, assess soil quality, and monitor the impact of climate change. The focus is on collecting and processing data using remote sensing, as well as using analytical tools to create maps and models that help make informed decisions in agriculture. The monitoring results help optimize the use of land resources, increase their productivity, and improve resilience to external factors. As a result, the use of GIS technologies becomes an integral part of effective land management in the Chechen Republic, contributing to the sustainable development of agriculture in the region. The study was conducted with the aim of improving the environmental monitoring of soils in the Rivne urban ecosystem using geo-information technologies, followed by visualization of the results based on indicators of total and accumulated pollution with heavy metals (HM). It was found that for the gross form of HM at 54% of soil sampling points, the soils are classified as "Significantly contaminated", 28% of the soils are "Moderately contaminated", and 18% of the soils belong to the category "No contamination" with HM. According to PLI values of the mobile form of HM, 62% of the soils are of the "No contamination" category. The soils in the "No contamination" category are predominantly of insular localization and are located near water bodies and on the outskirts of the city. The "Moderately contaminated" soils are identified as 26%, "Substantially contaminated" and "Significantly contaminated" - 4% and 8%, respectively. The "Significantly contaminated" category characterizes the soil cover near large enterprises, near main highways and railways. Increased public awareness, stricter measures, and new laws in the field of water resources have made the use of modern computer technology indispensable in the fields of science and technology. Thus, geographic information systems (GISs) are most in demand as they can be used as effective tools for storing, managing, and presenting spatial hydrological data and are essential in water resources management tasks. The application of GIS technology to water resources is steadily expanding. Recently, a lot of software provided by modern GIS has appeared. These software products solve various hydrological tasks, including hydrological modeling of surface water, groundwater, water supply, and sewerage systems, as well as rainwater pollution simulation. This article reviews and analyzes modern GIS software products that are significant in the analysis of hydrological data. The study aims to highlight the differences between various programs and use the results to determine which software is the best, regardless of whether it is paid or open source. In this work, the main goal was to analyse the erosional hazards within the boundaries of the Kalaus River catchment area.The paper analyses the erosive state of the region's lands, for which industry and cadastral maps, a digital elevation model and satellite images were used. Official data of ministries and departments were used. Geographic information systems – QGIS and SAGA GIS – served as the basis for modelling. The article presents the results of GIS modeling of erosional hazards in the territory of the Kalaus River basin. Based on the (DEM) SRTM digital elevation model, the basic morphometric indicators of the relief were calculated: steepness of the slopes and vertical and horizontal dissection of the relief. Based on morphometric indicators, an integral calculation of the energy of relief and erosion hazard was carried out and a series of relevant thematic maps was created. The values of slope steepness obtained within the boundaries of the basin range from 0° to 51° with average values of 2.5°. The horizontal dissection varies in the range from 0 to 0.84 km/km2, and the erosion bases are characterized by a range of values from – 15.0 to 248.6 m, with an average value of 33.0 m. The formation of the erosional potential of the basin’s relief is facilitated by the location of a significant part of the region on the spurs of the Stavropol Upland, which have widely developed slopes. Based on the calculated raster of the integral energy index of the relief, 3 categories of erosional hazard are identified. Most of the basin of the Kalaus River (58.4 %) is characterised by a low erosion hazard, another 39.0 % of the territory presents an average erosion hazard, and the remaining 2.9 % belongs to territories with a strong erosion hazard. The classification of relief surface shapes based on the Iwahashi and Pike method, which was carried out on the basis of a DEM, shows a much greater prevalence of steep slopes with high convexity in the southern part of the Kalaus River basin.The identified features of the level of erosional hazard of the lands of the Kalaus River basin are recommended to be taken into account in preinvestment, pre‐design and urban project planning of the territories of administrative units located within the boundaries of the basin. Despite the fact that the results of GIS analysis cannot completely replace field erosion surveys, their value as a tool for planning rational land use is obvious. The results of the work can be used to carry out a similar assessment in other regions, primarily in the organisation of agricultural production.

Modeling based on a digital relief model of the spatiotemporal change in the amount of total solar radiation and the assessment of the contribution of locations to the distribution of meteorological elements.DEM analysis was conducted in a GIS environment to assess the spatial and temporal distribution of total solar radiation, and statistical analysis of retrospective climatic and actual (2023) meteorological data was conducted.Based on a digital model of the relief of average spatial resolution in a GIS environment, changes in the spatial and temporal magnitude of solar radiation were estimated. A prospective analysis of climatic conditions made it possible to assess the general features of the climate of the Makazhoy basin Field observations made it possible to characterize modern climatic conditions, as well as to calculate gradients.Depending on the locations, it was determined that the amount of total solar radiation in the Makazhoy basin varies by almost 3 times. Within the same altitude intervals, the difference between the slopes of the southern and northern exposures reaches up to 50 %. The smallest differences in the amount of radiation were observed on the days of the summer solstice, and the largest on the days of the winter solstice. The average annual air temperature in the altitude range of 1960–2264 m in 2023 varied from 8.6 to 5.8°, and the amount of precipitation – from 481 to 525 mm, respectively. The intra‐annual course of meteorological parameters (air temperature and leaf surface, precipitation and relative humidity) within the meteorological transect has been revealed. The data obtained make it possible to proceed to the formation of a GIS system for monitoring the climatic conditions of the carbon landfill of the Kadyrov Chechen State University.

Purpose: the review of the current state of legal aspects and features of the reclaimed land (RL) registering. Discussion. Information on the availability, areas and RL use is currently provided to various departments. The number of bodies exceeds a dozen. Different interpretations of the requirements for input data and technical errors during input lead to inconsistencies in the data of various departments. A significant number of changes and innovations in regulatory and legal documentation indicate the imperfection of the RL registration process and constant attempts to improve it. Vast areas of reclamation systems and their division in forms of ownership complicate the registration of the available RL. The confidentiality of information obtained during the RL registration does not allow for a detailed analysis of the effectiveness of the reclamation systems functioning, even within the same department. As a result, it is impossible to create an objective picture of the reclamation system functioning and the reclamation complex as a whole. The solution to the problem of data inconsistency, including when taking into account RL, as well as quick and accurate determination of the RL location and GTS, is seen in the creation of a geographic information system (GIS) within a single digital portal. Certain elements of GIS technologies have already applied today, but the main advantage of the system being developed should be the integration of information from different sources to create a reference source of information. The development of such a system has been ongoing since 2008; currently it is a Unified Federal Information System on Agricultural Lands (UFIS AL). Conclusions. A review of the current state of legal aspects and features of the RL registering allowed coming to the conclusion that filling the UFIS AL with accurate and reliable information will allow using it for creating services to solve various problems, including the development of digital services, for example, facilitating the treaty-making process for the provision of water supply and (or) drainage services.

Topographic maps used as the cartographic basis of thematic maps are created on the basis of data from the certain time period and the existing topographic base for the study area was published in 1975-1990, which does not allow visualizing recent changes of the area condition. One way to solve this problem is to use up-to-date data sources. The problem is successfully solved on the basis of visual and automated use of satellites remote sensing data of medium, high and ultra-high spatial resolution. The purpose of this article is to conduct comparative analysis of the Earth remote sensing data using the example of Sentinel 2, Landsat-8 satellite images, to consider methods for processing satellite images and use of remote sensing data to update vector layers of the cartographic basis of thematic maps. As part of the tasks of actualization of the vector layers for updating the cartographic basis of the study area, in this work was used archival and operational medium-resolution data obtained from Landsat and Sentinel-2 series satellites and Sentinel-2 image services, as well as Airbus WorldDEM4Ortho DEM. The work used the methods of GIS technologies and remote sensing, classification of remote sensing data and comparative analysis, visual and automated interpretation. A set of Python scripts has been generated to filter the collection of Sentinel-2 images and to determine cloudiness and cloud shadow. The use of remote sensing data made it possible to cover spacious and inaccessible areas of mountainous regions, significantly reducing the costs of data and processing. As a result, the updated cartographic basis of the studied area was created. The article reports morphotectonic and petrological characteristics of Permo-Triassic trap basalts covering the major part of Siberian Craton and its surroundings. Lavas, sills, and dykes are distributed in Taimyr, in the crystalline basement and Mesozoic cover of the West Siberian Plate and in Kara sedimentary basin. Investigations include relief analysis, seismotomographic data, magnetic and gravitational anomalies. Four sectors of magma-permeable zones were distinguished along the perimeter of the Anabar Shield in the Siberian craton. The western sector is characterized by an intensive fracturing and stretching where the Tunguska syncline filled by the flood basalt was formed. A striking feature of volcanism is the meridional petrochemical trend corresponding to increasing the silica (decreasing pressure) of basic magmas in volcanic and intrusive rocks of the Siberian Craton from the impact center, located at the North near Norilsk, to South regions – Kuzbass and Angara-Taseev regions. It corresponds to the thinning of the mantle keel, which coincides with the reduction of the volumes of erupted melts. This trend was determined for volcanics referring to the two major time events 252–244 and 238–232 Ma. Research highlights: Permo-Triassic traps of Siberia cover West Siberian Plate and Siberian Crat. Plum impact is located part near the Norilsk region. Diffused spreading developed in Tunguska syncline. Intensive volcanism concentrating along the deep faults. In the Northern part the dike belts and extended sill intrusions prevail. In this article, a study was conducted to analyze the factors leading to the occurrence of one of the natural disasters - fires on the territory of Eastern Kazakhstan. This work examined the consequences of forest fires that occurred before 2022 and analyzed changes in the state of forest cover in recent years using satellite images. The article also describes the methodology and application of geographic information technologies for assessing the potential damage caused by fires based on data from space. This technology provides a quick assessment of possible damage from forest and steppe fires, which can be supplemented with data from the area. Based on space monitoring data, areas affected by fires are identified, and a rapid assessment of such areas is carried out using information from the MODIS system, after which it is recommended to supplement it with more detailed medium-resolution data, such as Landsat images. In addition, the article determined the structure of forest cover, and also identified factors influencing the occurrence of fire conditions in the territory of Eastern Kazakhstan. As a result of the study, a set of proposals was developed to assess the level of damage caused by forest fires and measures to prevent such fires.

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of 735 research papers on geomorphological mapping published in English between 2000 and 2021 using the Web of Science database. The analysis focuses on key metrics such as annual publication rates, journal distribution, common keywords, and frequently cited papers. The results demonstrate sustained investment in geomorphological mapping research over the past two decades, driven by advancements in data analysis, GIS technologies, and cross-institutional and cross-country collaboration. While European universities and research centers lead the field, researchers from Latin America and Asia are also making noteworthy contributions. However, research concentration remains largely in Europe, particularly at low altitudes. The study highlights the vital importance of investment in geomorphological mapping research and the benefits of collaboration to advance understanding and knowledge production. It also emphasizes the need for greater geographic and cultural diversity among researchers to ensure a more comprehensive and inclusive approach to research in this field.

The article examines the transformational changes that took place in the Ternopil inter-district resettlement system as a result of the administrative-territorial reform and its transformation into a district resettlement system based on the newly formed Ternopil district. An analysis of the spatial features of the district formation, which took place by unifying the territories of the former districts of the central part of the Ternopil region, was carried out. Ternopil district included the territories of eight former districts, six of which (Berezhanskyi, Zborivskyi, Kozivskyi, Ternopilskyi Pidvolochyskyi, and Pidgayetskii) were completely included in the newly formed district, and two more districts, Terebovlyanskyi and Zbarazhskyi, with the majority of settlements and former councils. Out of the settlements of the former Terebovlyan district, only four villages did not become part of the newly formed Ternopil district. Communities were analyzed by types, number of settlements, and united councils. It was established that 25 united territorial communities included 492 settlements and 280 former councils. It is also stated that there are 7 urban and village communities and 14 rural communities in Ternopil district by type. The positions of communities in terms of area, number and population density have been established. It was revealed that the largest in terms of area, population, and number of settlements and councils that have merged are communities whose administrative centers have become the centers of former districts. The urban population, in addition to the Ternopil urban community, also prevails in the Berezhansk and Velikobirkiv communities. For the purpose of visual display and analysis of the main transformational changes and spatial features of placement according to the main indicators, appropriate maps were created with the help of GIS. As a result, it was found that the most densely populated communities are located on the outskirts of the city of Ternopil, as well as along a line to the north and south of it. The Berezhansk urban community in the western part of the district stands out separately, with a population density of 111 people per km², which is the third indicator among the district communities. It was also established that the least densely populated communities are located on the periphery of the district, especially in its southwestern part. Zolotnikivska, Saranchukivska and Narayivska communities with a population density of 27 to 31 per km² occupy the last positions not only in the district but also in the region according to this indicator. Pidgayetska urban territorial community is the least densely populated among all urban communities of the region – 35 people per km². [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is devoted to the application of remote sensing in the context of the natural and technical geosystem of the Dniester PSPP. The main emphasis is placed on the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and thermographic data to determine the factors that may cause abnormal thermal load on hydraulic structures. The study is aimed at identifying and analysing temperature gradients that may influence the occurrence of thermal anomalies. The study is aimed at identifying potential causes, mechanisms and factors affecting water manifestations. The subject of the analysis is also the relationship between the temperature gradient on the surface of structures and the presence of water leakage, as well as the impact of temperature on geological, hydrological and engineering systems of the structure. The analysis process is based on the interpretation of thermographic data reflecting the local heating of the surface of the hydraulic structure and the geotechnical characteristics of the soils, taking into account the design features of the hydraulic structure The research provides valuable insights that can be used to optimise the design and construction of earthen dams. Analysis of thermal processes is an important step in understanding and predicting their impact on the geological structure and hydrogeological properties of the environment. Currently, more and more attention is being paid to the development of technologies for the satellite monitoring of land use and the state of agricultural landscapes. The lack of up-to-date information about the boundaries of individual agricultural fields does not allow us to fully assess the state of arable land and take them into account. The available statistical sources have discrepancies and do not have information about the spatial distribution of used and unused agricultural fields. The purpose of this work is to establish the spatial distribution of cultivated and uncultivated arable lands of the Volgograd region according to remote sensing data. This paper presents the results of mapping the actual boundaries of arable lands of the Volgograd region as of 2021. High-resolution Sentinel-2 and Google Earth PRO data in the geographic information program are used to decrypt arable land. As a result, 6.05 million ha of arable land are mapped. The data are compared with official statistics for 2021, and an excess of 12% is noted in comparison with the results of decryption. It is noted that, over the past 20 years, according to statistical data, the areas of arable land and deposits have practically not changed. When comparing the decryption results with the data on arable lands of the Vega service, a difference of 4% was noted, which is quite high accuracy. According to the All-Russian Agricultural Census of 2016, the area of arable land used was exceeded by 8%. According to the SRTM digital terrain model, morphometric parameters of arable land were calculated throughout the region. It is determined that agricultural fields are located mainly on the slopes of the western exposure (37%), which is due to the predominance of the general slope of the relief to the west. Most (78%) of the field areas are on slopes with a steepness of up to 1°, and about 2% occupy areas of more than 3°. Water erosion is noted on steep slopes. The smoothest relief in the Volga region is on the territory of the Caspian lowland. Using remote methods, the assessment of the areas of fallow lands was carried out: about 960 000 ha. According to various sources, from 4800 to 891 000 ha of unused arable land are noted. The resulting geoinformation basis will make it possible to fully account for and assess the condition of cultivated and uncultivated arable lands, as well as develop projects for the rational use of land resources to increase yields and prevent the degradation of agricultural landscapes. The study was performed to assess the total impact of agroecological conditions for agricultural landscapes on sloping lands in the Central Chernozem Region on the formation of arable land productivity resources. The survey was carried out with a system analysis of complex agri-climatic data sets, morphometric relief parameters, and soil agrochemical properties in 2019–2022. The shell GIS-based framework for spatial and coordinate data was built to assess and visualize the natural resource potential of agricultural landscapes at field- and farm-scales. With respect to the Central Chernozem Region, the most favourable hydrothermal conditions for agricultural production were observed across the northeastern slopes. The climate-dependent arable-land potential productivity varied from 4.30–4.93 thousand grains 86 ha on southwest-facing slopes to 6.25–6.27 thousand grains 3321 ha on the northeast-facing slopes, relative to varying inclinations by 43.8% and 49.1% and slope orientation (azimuth) by 62.1% and 66.8% at field- and farm-scales, respectively (86-ha polygon farm and 3321-ha farm land areas, respectively). Spatial distribution of the black soil pHKCl value is characterized by a 0.26-increase per inclination degree and increases from 0.69 to 1.00 with increasing the slope thermal performance by 10%. The humus content tended to decrease by 0.09–0.15% with an increase in inclination by 1° and increase by 0.21–0.39% with an increase in the climate-dependent arable-land productivity by 1 thousand grains/ha. The mesorelief in the typical agricultural landscapes across the Central Chernozem Region is a significant factor for spatial heterogeneity of black-soil fertility properties. The article deals with the relationship between morphometry and hydrobiological regime. The Shurtan reservoir located in the southern part of the Republic of Uzbekistan is chosen as the Object of the study. Studying the problem of reservoir overgrowth and its connection with morphometry, especially in reservoirs with depth up to 2 metres, and the influence of sunlight penetration, requires application of various research methods. The water level mark in the reservoir during the period of field studies was ∇ 420.325 m, the reservoir water volume was 7.5 million m3 and the water surface area was 7.10 km2. On the basis of application of modern technologies of geoinformation system for assessment of hydrological and hydrobiological processes on the reservoir, an electronic map of the Shurtan reservoir basin was made. The results of the study using GIS technologies showed that the coastal zones of the reservoir bowl are covered with algae (reeds), their area is growing every year. If its area in 2007 was-0.386km2, in 2014 it reached an area of 0.677km2. In 2018, work was done to clear the coastal zones of vegetation, but by 2023 everything is covered with plants again. The article examines the possibilities of using GIS technologies in the tourism sphere. The study focused on the conceptual modeling of tourism and the geoinformation support in planning tourist routes. The subject area of tourism as a conceptual model in terms of database modeling and GIS using UML language was characterized and presented. The method of using the GIS to solve the problem of modeling transport accessibility zones to tourist attractions in shaping transport routes has been proposed. The QGIS was used in tandem with a database management system such as PostgreSQL. GRASS GIS environment was used to perform spatial analysis. The object of this research is the transport network in one of the districts of the Ternopil region. We have tested in practice the proposed technological scheme on the example of the Ternopil district with the use of PostgreSQL database management system, QGIS, and GRAS GIS. We have created a tourist isochrone map of this region with some attractive places. The proposed methodology for determining transport accessibility using spatial analysis tools with the creation of isochrone maps and a flexible system of adjustments in the GIS makes it possible to optimize already existing tourism routes and create new ones.

Repairing potholes is a task for municipalities to prevent serious road user injuries and vehicle damage. This study presents a low-cost, high-performance pothole monitoring system to maintain urban roads. The authors developed a methodology based on photogrammetry techniques to predict the pothole's shape and volume. A collection of overlapping 2D images shot by a Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B has been used to create a pothole 3D model. The Raspberry-based configuration has been mounted on an autonomous and remote-controlled robot (developed in the InfraROB European project) to reduce workers' exposure to live traffic in survey activities and automate the process. The outputs of photogrammetry processing software have been validated through laboratory tests set as ground truth; the trial has been conducted on a tile made of asphalt mixture, reproducing a real pothole. Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) technologies allowed visualising potholes on a map with information about their centre, volume, backfill material, and an associated image. Ten on-site tests validated that the system works in an uncontrolled environment and not only in the laboratory. Spatial specificities of migrations in population of Ukraine are discussed on the basis of map models (map diagrams, cartograms, map schemes of quantitative background, isolines). Territorial differences in interstate and interregional migrations in the pre-war time, the period of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine, and the full-scale war are put under analysis. The effects of human activity are all around us in some places, and water resources are getting harder to find. In this situation, evaluating these resources, estimating consequences, and developing plans to lessen impacts and enhance sustainability while utilizing the finest technology available are all important. While geographic information systems (GIS) offer the best tools for managing water resources and other related issues like drought and flood risk, remote sensing offers the essential data for managing these resources. Also, GIS can be integrated with many techniques like artificial intelligence models and hydrological models. This paper aims to present a comprehensive survey of the best practices and uses of GIS technologies in water resources engineering includes, water resources mapping, rainfall-runoff measurements, flood forecasting, irrigation management, water quality and drought monitoring. At present, GIS technologies penetrate various spheres of socio-economic life of humankind. In this paper, based on GIS technologies, the main classes of the land cover of Ukraine were analysed with further in-depth study in terms of regions and rural and urban areas. The results of this study are based on ESA WorldCover data; according to them, 32% of Ukraine’s territory can be attributed to urban areas, while 68% – to rural areas. In general, the analysis showed that Ukraine is characterised by a high degree of land using, so the land that was cultivated in 2020 accounted for 55.5% of its area. 70% of rural areas comprise cultivated areas, 30% – in urban areas. The leaders among the oblasts with the largest share of cultivated lands are Zaporizhzhia (76%), Kirovohrad (76%), Mykolaiv (77). An inherent feature of Ukraine’s land structure is a considerable share of land (15.3%) under meadows, hayfields, and pastures, which are vital in restoration and preservation and as an essential element of regional ecosystems. 66% of the territories of this class are concentrated in rural areas, on urban areas – 34%. Most of them are in Luhansk (26%), Lviv (24%) and Volyn (22%) oblasts. The level of forest cover in Ukraine is 23.3%, with 17.7% being forests and the other 6% – protective forest belts, orchards, and arboretums. Rural areas account for 64% of forested areas. The most forested areas are Zakarpattia (68%), Ivano-Frankivsk (54%) and Zhytomyr (45%), while the least forested are Kherson (4%), Zaporizhzhia (5%) and Mykolaiv (6%). In general, 71% of forested areas are rural and 29% are urban. In Ukraine, the share of surface waters covering the geographical area is 2.4%, of which 71% is in rural territories and 29% – in urban territories. Cherkasy (5%), Zaporizhzhia (6%), and Kherson (8%) oblasts are the top three oblasts in terms of surface water supply with 64%, 63% and 82% in rural areas, respectively (Figure 8). In turn, the oblasts with the smallest share of open water areas are Zhytomyr (0.5%), Luhansk (0.4%) and Zakarpattia (0.3%) oblasts, with 77%, 33%, and 46%, respectively

This review summarizes the keynote speeches and some presentations on specific problems delivered by the participants of the interregional scientific and practical round-table discussion “Interregional and Intermunicipal Collaboration under the Conditions of Environmental Challenges in the Volga Region” held on June 29, 2021 at Kazan Federal University. The event was attended by representatives of the local government authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan that are directly working on ensuring the environmental safety, as well as by legal scholars and applied researchers of the Volga Federal District. Based on the exchange of views, the Law Department of Kazan Federal University drafted and presented its interdiscip­linary project “An organizational and legal mechanism of tackling ecological challenges under the conditions of spatial development of the Volga region and the Caspian ecosystems: Convergence and divergence of the legal systems of Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan (EcoINTERVolga–Caspian)”. The article ends with a resolution adopted as a follow-up of the fruitful joint work of all participants.

Fault structures in folded areas are an important element of the geological structure. Their age and history of development affect seismicity, distribution of minerals, and engineering and geological characteristics of the area. The geological structure of the Altai-Sayan folded area was mainly formed during the Paleozoic and transformed during the Cenozoic activation. Geoinformation methods and technologies were used to compare between the Paleozoic and Cenozoic fault networks. It is shown that the degree of reactivation of the Paleozoic faults varies greatly within the territory.Conjugate analysis of the orientation and spatial distribution of faults of different ages in the study area does not confirm that the Cenozoic fault system was formed by reactivation or inherited development of the Paleozoic fault system. These two systems arose at different compression orientations. The left-lateral strike-slip ensemble was formed under sublatitudinal compression in the Paleozoic, and the right-lateral strike-slip ensemble - under submeridional compression in the Cenozoic. A significant coincidence between the directions of the main faults of different ages is due to their dominant strike along the boundaries of the accretionary complexes in the region.

Aesthetic properties are important characteristics of any territory. Currently, there are quite a few methodological developments for evaluating the aesthetic properties of landscapes. Conventionally, they can be divided into traditional assessment methods, where the assessment is based solely on fi surveys, and the other - those based on modern approach, in which fi ld research is supplemented by GIS technologies. In turn, fi surveys are highly labor-intensive and, as a result, are usually carried out for small key areas or individual routes. With the introduction of GIS and remote sensing data (RSD) of high spatial resolution, it became possible without much diffi to assess many indicators of the aesthetic attractiveness of landscapes. This article is devoted to an overview of development of modern methodological approaches to assessing the aesthetic properties of landscapes. The paper opens with historic review of the aesthetic studies of landscapes, then discusses theoretical questions such as the defi of the concept of “aesthetics of the landscape” and the exploration of aesthetic perception and, fi ally, presents a case study of application of GIS technologies for aesthetic evaluation of landscapes.

Problem statement. The increased human pressure on natural geo-complexes is causing the revival of undesirable processes that create an extensive risk for the inhabitants of these regions. Alpine-type orogenic zones, which belong to the northeastern slope of the Greater Caucasus, are distinguished from many geomorphological systems by excessive activity of endo- and exogenous processes. Therefore, at this time, the task of diagnosing and assessing the ecological and geomorphological risk that the population faces in the development of new territories of the region seems to be important. Analysis of recent research and publications. After analyzing a number of techniques used to assess the landslide and mudflow hazards, the conclusion was made that most of them had their flaws. Research method. There are a large number of methods for assessing the risk of environmental management and predicting hazardous exodynamic processes. However, in modern conditions, these techniques are not sufficiently reliable. This, in turn, determines the relevance and the need to develop new or modernised methods of strategies for the prevention, protection, and elimination of the consequences of catastrophes and natural disasters. The purpose of this work is to reveal the geomorphological features and dynamics of the development of the most dangerous and often repeating landslide and mudflow processes based on field geomorphological studies, as well as fund literature, indicate the reasons for their formation and propose measures to combat them. Research results. The article discusses the results of ecological and geomorphological surveys on the northeastern slope of the Greater Caucasus, dedicated to the assessment of landslide and mudflow risk for the period from 1990 to 2020. To assess them in order to obtain morphometric characteristics (including the down gradient of slopes, the length and shape of slopes, areas of mudflow centers), large-scale (M 1:100000) topographic maps were used, as well as interpretation materials for different-scale and multi-temporal ASP. Based on the interpretation of the ASP within the studied region, in order to clarify the general picture of the dissection of the modern relief of the studied region, a map of morphometric tension was compiled, which includes the degree of vertical dissection of the territory, the down gradient of slopes, etc., and also maps of the risk of landslides and mudflows were compiled according to the degree of danger of landslide and mudflow processes, and the area of their distribution was calculated. Landslide and mudflow risk analysis mainly used high-resolution aerospace imagery (ASI) from CNES / Airbus, Maxar Technologies (GeoEye-1), and medium resolution Sentinel-2A and 2B. Thus visual and semi-automatic interpretation (classification with training) was performed in the ArcGIS environment. As a result, taking into account the morphometric tension, as well as the mudflow and landslide hazards, a map of the morphodynamic tension of the northeastern slope of the Greater Caucasus was compiled, which makes it possible to reveal the modern nature of the manifestation of exodynamic processes, to predict and assess the risk coming from them. Conclusion. The results of the research will make it possible to use the obtained data for the development of the Program for the safe and sustainable functioning and development for the purpose of recreational and tourist development of the difficult of access mountain geosystems of Azerbaijan.

The aim is to describe the field methods for studying the impact of the Dniester PSPP natural and technical geosystem (NTGS) on dynamic processes in the environment of its operation. A comprehensive research methodology was used to analyse the field methods for studying the impact of the Dniester PSPP natural and technical geosystem on dynamic processes in the environment of its operation. The initial stage included an analysis of the results of previous scientific studies on the impact of hydraulic engineering facilities on the environment. This made it possible to take into account previous findings and identify existing knowledge in this area. Next, we carried out on-site (field) data collection, which included in-situ measurements and observations directly in the area of the research object. For this purpose, specialised data collection devices were used. Particular attention was paid to the statistical analysis of the data obtained, which allowed us to identify the relationships between various factors that affect the dynamic processes of the environment. In the 21st century, geography is becoming an even more important and responsible science due to the growth of global challenges, such as climate change, environmental management, population migration, and others. An integrated approach allows geographers to look at problems from different perspectives and develop comprehensive solutions. Modern technologies, such as geographic information systems (GIS), satellite imagery, remote sensing, etc., provide geographers with new opportunities for collecting, analysing and interpreting data, which helps to solve complex problems more efficiently. An example of the application of an integrated approach in studying the impact of the natural and technical geosystem of the Dniester cascade of HPPs and PSPs on dynamic processes. Scientific novelty. The research in the article allows us to expand the understanding of the specific problem of managing anthropogenic load in a natural and technical system. The analysis of the object being designed as a system containing two most important parts - technical and natural - makes the systems approach not a decoration, but a prerequisite for the work of a natural scientist: geographer, ecologist - an ally, an associate of the designer. Designing, creating an environment that is optimal for human life means designing such systems, structures, and technologies so that they are as closely related to the existing relationships in nature as possible. Abstract—The climatic characteristics and morphometric indicators of the relief of habitats of forest communities described in the system of ecological and floristic classification on the Ufa plateau, as well as on the western macroslope and in the centrally elevated part of the Southern Urals were compared. It has been shown that syntaxonomic differences in forest vegetation in these areas are primarily caused by the differences in air temperature and summer precipitation. Existing climate change forecasts assume an increase in average annual and summer temperatures, as well as an increase in the amount of winter and a decrease in summer precipitation. This suggests that coniferous and mixed coniferous-broad-leaved forests will be enriched with species of the nemoral complex in the future in the Southern Urals, which in turn will lead to an increase in their similarity with modern forests of the Ufa plateau. The paper presents the results of comparative neogeodynamic analysis of the Baltic syneclise and northern Voronezh anteclise based on structural-geomorphological interpretation, digital elevation model (DEM) processing procedure using LESSA program [Zlatopolsky, 2011], seismic analysis, and computer geodynamic modeling. Both regions are seismically active areas of the East European Platform. The automated DEM analysis showed that they are dominated by NW-striking lineaments oriented across the strike of the neoextension axis. Computational neogeodynamic models imply that the areas under consideration develop in shear environment, with the compression axis oriented northwest. Another important result of modeling is numerical correlation between earthquake energy, interpolated over the Baltic syneclise, and the probability of occurrence of ruptures: the Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.58 for the sedimentary cover and 0.42 for the basement. For the northern Voronezh anteclise, a correlation was found between the epicentral density of earthquakes and "Fracture regions" parameter, with reference to which there were distinguished the areas with the probable occurrence of new short-extension ruptures (the Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.41). This parameter is informative for contouring seismically active parts since the areas with probable occurrence of new ruptures, occupying 39 % of the northern Voronezh anteclise, account for 71 % of earthquake epicenters. Structuralgeomorphological interpretation yielded a high degree of correlation between relief and active faults identified as "weak" zones to which the earthquake epicenters are largely confined. Therefore, both regions considered are characterized by high sedimentary-cover seismic activity, develop in shear stress field, with the stress axis oriented northwest, and have similar orientations of linear elements of relief and "weak" zones.The analysis of the earthquake recurrence curves shows considerable differences between seismic regimes of the northern Voronezh anteclise and the Baltic syneclise, and those between the sedimentary-cover and basement seismicity of the latter. These differences may be due the fact that the stressed state of the Voronezh anteclise is affected by active structures of the Urals and Caucasus, and that the upwarping Fennoscandian shield is largely responsible for neodeformations of the Baltic syneclise. Practical significance of the study is concerned with the identification of earthquake source zones.

The perpetual need for developing a sustainable economic environment places the education policies at the foundation of social adaptability. Creating and maintaining curriculum content that meets the demands of a continuously changing society, and the challenges that such a rapid evolution put on the labour market, is one of the top priorities for any education system and institution involved in education at any level. This paper proposes a cognitive computing solution for assessing, in a programmatic manner, large corpora of curriculum content created by teachers from lower secondary education environment for Informatics instruction in Romanian schools. The result of this initiative at the national level is corpora of curricular content that must be evaluated to verify the degree to which the material meets the requirements of the national curriculum. We addressed this crucial yet tedious process by designing and implementing a solution for automating curriculum assessment through cognitive computing. The paper outlines a sustainable framework to evaluate curriculum content in an automated fashion, and for providing critical feedback timely to both content creators, and to policy makers responsible for creating economically viable and future adaptable education strategies. The paper presents a study of toponyms attested by Academician Peter Simon Pallas during his expedition in the Middle Volga region (on the territory of the modern Samara and Ulyanovsk regions) in 1768–1769. The study data is retrieved from his Travels to Different Provinces of the Russian State, published originally in the German language. The book has never been considered as a source on historical toponymy of the Middle Volga Region which explains the authors’ interest to it. The first part of the paper provides various linguo-statistical data on local toponyms found by Pallas: their distribution by types of geographical objects; phonetic, morphological, structural, and other changes that these place names have undergone over 250 years. The second part contains a toponymic map created from Pallas’s records. The map uses GIS technologies and contains information on the geographical distribution of the mentioned Middle Volga toponyms belonging to different cultural strata: most ancient are Iranian, later ones — Finno-Ugric and Turkic, and the latest are Slavic. On the one hand, these materials help restore the linguo-geographic picture of different ethnic groups formerly attested in the Middle Volga region, and on the other hand, they provide a basis for further linguistic research into the regional toponymy.

The article considers the main sources of pollutionin the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania. A study of environmental geophysical factors in the city of Vladikavkaz was carried out at 126 points; indicators of noise pollution, electric fields and the level of gamma radiation were measured. A geoaccumulation index of heavy metals in soils and indices of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks were calculated and corresponding maps were constructed. The obtained data supporting a high level of carcinogenic risk are consistent with a high level of cancer morbidity in the city, which indicates a close relationship between morbidity and the carcinogenic risk index. It has been determined that emissions from road transport are greater by an order of magnitude than stationary sources emissions, while there is a steady trend towards an increase in air pollution as a result of the increasing negative impact of motor vehicle emissions. It has been established that the most hazardous way for heavy metals to enter the human body from the soil is by inhalation. It has been determined that in areas where environmental pollution with heavy metals is higher, cancer morbidity is also higher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, I compare cartographic methods that can be used for analyzing tourist attractive regions and explore the possibilities of using GIS technologies for such analysis. I provide a specific methodology of searching for the most attractive tourist regions using Voronoi diagrams and heatmaps. I demonstrate the methodology by applying it to certain types of tourist resources in Chernihiv region of Ukraine.

The manuscript is devoted to the study of the scientific problem of space-temporal systematization of information on cultural landscapes in geoportals and spatial data infrastructures for the purpose of tourist and recreational development of the region. The paper emphasizes that the processes of integration, refinement and structuring of information on the spatio-temporal organization of cultural landscapes can be optimized with the coordinated development of a regional problem-oriented GIS, a remote sensing data processing and analysis system, and a web-based geoportal. The authors give an example of the visualization of information resources about cultural landscapes through the development of the geoportal "Natural and Cultural Heritage of Mordovia", available at tourismportal.net. The functioning of the project is based on the provision that the process of researching national landscapes should be based on a spatio-temporal systematization and comparative analysis of large volumes of information in order to form an idea of the harmonization of the interaction of nature and society at different hierarchical levels of ethno-geographical space.

The article examines the effective use of space information technologies in regional development. The study aims to assess and predict the influence of cross-industry information innovations of the space industry on economic growth of the Russian regions. We formulated and tested a hypothesis on the possibility of simulating the effects from the implementation of the space technologies of a Geographic Information System (GIS) in economic sectors. The research focuses on geoinformation and navigation GIS technologies provided by the space industry for the regional and sectoral development. We used the geoinformation approach for assessing, monitoring and predicting the socio-economic development of the regions. We showed that currently a new class of regional economic and mathematical models is emerging. They are based on neogeography, which is a novel method of reporting economic information. In the context of digitalization, finding new sources of regional economic growth is a relevant task. Using space infrastructure and its information to solve the regions’ economic problems can become such a source. A number of economic growth models demonstrated that, in the short term, labour productivity can grow due to an increase in the competence level in using space information. In the long term, this growth can be caused by increasing the body of space evidence, improving the quality of its economic processing, and developing technologies for using this information for managing regional economic processes. We have considered the effects from using cross-industrial information innovations of the space industry in the Russian industrial regions. Moreover, we rated the industries in accordance with the intensity of the use of space GIS technologies. Further, we have compared the obtained results with the structure of the industrial regions’ gross regional product. We came to a conclusion that in the context of an active digitization of key industries based on GIS technologies, the economic growth of the industrial regions will be determined by total factor productivity connected with the effects from the introduction of such technologies.

The article deals with the issue of hydromodule zoning of agricultural land. The negative impact of the environmental factors of the Aral Sea requires more work on the efficient use of agricultural land in the region. The focus of the research is on the efficient use of agricultural land based on the optimal placement of Agricultural crops. Optimizing the use of agricultural land by dividing areas into taxonomic units is considered to be one of the effective methods. In this study, the land of P. Seytov’s massive, Chimboy district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, within the Republic of Uzbekistan, was selected as a study area. Hydromodule zoning of the cultivated areas of the research object was done using GIS technologies. In this, data on soil types and mechanical composition of the object, groundwater, and irrigation methods were used. Overlay, raster calculation, and raster classification methods were used using ArcGIS 10.6 software. As a result, a hydromodule map of the research object was created. Based on the created hydromodule map, the scenario of placement of agricultural crops based on 2 different options was developed and water consumption was analyzed.

The historical variations in distribution of the bobak marmot (Marmota bobak Müll.) across the Russian Plain continue to attract the attention of specialists. The available studies largely report data with respect to locations of encounters with the bobak marmot during a particular time period in the form of narrative descriptions, which seriously hampers the perception and analysis of this material. The only solution to the problem is the use of modern mapping techniques. This work summarizes the available data on the historical distribution of the bobak marmot in a cartographic form with the current GIS technologies. Subsequent analysis of the findings could substantially contribute to clarify details on the distributional patterns of the bobak marmot on the Russian Plain over the historical period, in particular, those in connection with natural features of habitats preferred by the marmot. High level of the commercial real estate market development, which largely contributes to the implementation of one of the basic principles of the market economy – individual isolation and freedom of economic activity of economic agents is one of the essential conditions for the effective functioning of the economy on a national scale. The article substantiates the role of the state as the main subject of regulation of the real estate market and investigates, in particular, the legal support of the state registration of commercial real estate property in the Republic of Belarus. In accordance with the author's concept of «commercial real estate market», the highlighted features of this market introduce the concept of «subject structure of the commercial real estate market», which is formed by means of combining diverse subjects of the commercial real estate market, taking into account the system of relationships between them, summarizing their goals, objectives, economic interests, methods and forms of organization and interaction concerning the movement of commercial real estate assets at different stages of the life cycle. Each element of the five blocks of the subject structure of the commercial real estate market of the Republic of Belarus is identified. The concept of «mechanism of state regulation of the real estate market» is given. The methods of direct administrative and economic regulation of the commercial real estate market are highlighted. The system of state organizations in the field of state registration in the Republic of Belarus is shown. The system of state registration of real estate in Belarus is considered, its goals are specified. The analysis of the current system of state registration allowed to highlight its shortcomings, which was the basis for the development of ways of its enhancement, including the use of GIS-technologies. The necessity to introduce such an innovative tool as the technical and economic uniform passport of the commercial real estate property is substantiated. Одним из неотъемлемых условий эффективного функционирования экономики в национальном масштабе является высокий уровень развития рынка коммерческой недвижимости, что во многом способствует реализации одного из основных принципов рыночной экономики – индивидуальной обособленности и свободы хозяйственной деятельности экономических агентов. В статье обоснована роль государства как основного субъекта регулирования рынка недвижимости и, в частности, изучено состояние правового обеспечения государственной регистрации объектов коммерческой недвижимости в Республике Беларусь. В соответствии с авторским понятием «рынок коммерческой недвижимости», выделенными особенностями этого рынка введено понятие «субъектная структура рынка коммерческой недвижимости», которая сформирована с позиции объединения разнофункциональных субъектов рынка коммерческой недвижимости, учитывая систему взаимоотношений между ними, обобщающая их цели, задачи, экономические интересы, способы и формы организации и взаимодействия по поводу движения объектов коммерческой недвижимости на разных стадиях жизненного цикла. Идентифицирован каждый элемент из пяти блоков субъектной структуры рынка коммерческой недвижимости Республики Беларусь. Дано понятие «механизм государственного регулирования рынка недвижимости». Выделены методы прямого административного и экономического регулирования рынка коммерческой недвижимости. Показана система государственных организаций в области государственной регистрации в Республике Беларусь. Рассмотрена система государственной регистрации объектов недвижимости в Республике Беларусь, конкретизированы ее цели. Проведенный анализ действующей системы государственной регистрации позволил выявить ее недостатки, что выступило основанием разработки направлений совершенствования процесса, в том числе с использованием ГИС-технологий. Обоснована необходимость введения инновационного инструмента – технико-экономического единого паспорта объекта коммерческой недвижимости.

The environmental assessment of the surface water quality of the Western Bug River has been made using the system of classification quality of land surface water of Ukraine in accordance with the approved methodology, which allows comparing water quality of separate areas of water objects of different regions. The calculation of the environmental assessment of water quality has been carried according to three blocks: block of salt composition, block of trophic and saprobic (ecological and sanitary) indicators and block of indicators of content of specific toxic substances. The results are presented in the form of a combined environmental assessment, based on the final conclusions of the three blocks and consists in calculating the integral ecological index. Comprehensive studies of changes in the water quality of the Western Bug River have been conducted within the territory of Ukraine for a long-term period. The water quality of the river on the final values of the integral indicators of the ecological condition corresponded mainly to 4nd category of the 3rd class – the water is “satisfactory” by condition and “little polluted” by degree of purity (except for points of observation that located within the Volyn region, where the water quality corresponded to 3rd category and the 2nd class. It is “good” by condition and “fairly clean” by the degree of purity). Visualization and part of the analysis are performed using GIS technologies in the software of the ArcGIS 10.3.

The aim of the article is to study the current state of applying space technologies to monitor land use efficiency. It is proved that under conditions of globalization of the world economy there takes place digitalization and automation of production processes with the application of space technologies and many other innovative transformations that should be considered when carrying out economic activities, especially in agriculture. It is justified that the further development of agriculture and agricultural land use should be planned in accordance with the innovation development strategy, which envisages: increase in the contribution of science and technology to the advancement of land economics; use of space technologies to monitor land use efficiency; enhancement of competitiveness of products on the world market through the modernization and automation of production facilities; widespread adoption of remote sensing technologies. It is established that one of the areas in attracting innovative developments is modern space technologies. The current state of and trends in applying space technologies to monitor land use efficiency are considered at the enterprise and state levels. The introduction of modern space technologies for monitoring land use (EOS Crop Monitoring, GIS Data) in Ukraine is analyzed. It is proved that the application of satellite monitoring makes it possible to accurately estimate the crop areas, monitor the condition of plants at all phases of growth, predict the yield at early stages, control agricultural operations, etc. The access to satellite data for previous years and analysis of huge amounts of information using the latest technologies allow assessing the value of land. There identified prospective land use sectors where modern space technologies should be applied, namely: filling the State Land Cadastre, taking land inventory, forming land resource databases. Practical recommendations on the application of space technologies for monitoring land use efficiency, crop forecasting and pricing analysis based on the experience of the EU and the USA are proposed.

The article provides an economic and geographical analysis of the demographic processes in China, considering a set of natural and geographic factors, selected to reflect the influence of the state policy of family planning, as well as the policy for the development of separate regions in the period under study. The methodology included the use of geoinformation technologies, classification method and geographical systematization. Based on the identified spatial differences at the level of provinces, radical and previously absent spatial shifts in the demographic processes in China were established for the first time. They consist in the formation of positive and negative dynamics zones, as well as natural increase and natural decline zones. The demographic balance, for the first time calculated for the provinces of China, for 2010 and 2019, made it possible to indicate the dominance of provinces of a progressive type (53.0%) and a zone of provinces of a regressive type (8.8%). The established trend proves not only a differentiation, but also a spatial polarization at the national level and acts as a phenomenon of modern demographic development in China, in the 21st century. The results of the geographical systematization of the demographic space has practical significance as it provides the opportunity to use this methodology at the microgeographic level in other territories and serves as a scientific justification for the development of the directions of China's regional demographic policy.
