This commentary presents the aspects considered most relevant on the novelties introduced by the legislative amendment of the European Union Directive 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. The European Union raises its targets for all Member States to meet by 2030 for a 55% reduction of greenhouse gases to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. To do so, a procedural simplification in the granting of administrative authorizations has been proposed, where the implementation of renewable acceleration zones with permit-granting procedures and the implementation of the overriding public interest stand out, as well as various modifications in the field of transport, buildings and industry.
