This paper constructs highly accurate and efficient time integration methods for the solution of transient problems. The motion equations of transient problems can be described by the first-order ordinary differential equations, in which the right-hand side is decomposed into two parts, a linear part and a nonlinear part. In the proposed methods of different orders, the responses of the linear part at the previous step are transferred by the generalized Padé approximations, and the nonlinear part's responses of the previous step are approximated by the Gauss–Legendre quadrature together with the explicit Runge–Kutta method, where the explicit Runge–Kutta method is used to calculate function values at quadrature points. For reducing computations and rounding errors, the 2m algorithm and the method of storing an incremental matrix are employed in the calculation of the generalized Padé approximations. The proposed methods can achieve higher-order accuracy, unconditional stability, flexible dissipation, and zero-order overshoots. For linear transient problems, the accuracy of the proposed methods can reach 10−16 (computer precision), and they enjoy advantages both in accuracy and efficiency compared with some well-known explicit Runge–Kutta methods, linear multi-step methods, and composite methods in solving nonlinear problems. The continuous phase plate (CPP) is the vital diffractive optical element involved in laser beam shaping and smoothing in high-power laser systems. The high gradients, small spatial periods, and complex features make it difficult to achieve high accuracy when manufacturing such systems. A high-accuracy and high-efficiency surface topography manufacturing method for CPP is presented in this paper. The atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) system is presented and the removal characteristics are studied to obtain the optimal processing parameters. An optimized iterative algorithm based on the dwell point matrix and a fast Fourier transform (FFT) is proposed to improve the accuracy and efficiency in the dwell time calculation process. A 120 mm × 120 mm CPP surface topography with a 1326.2 nm peak-to-valley (PV) value is fabricated with four iteration steps after approximately 1.6 h of plasma processing. The residual figure error between the prescribed surface topography and plasma-processed surface topography is 28.08 nm root mean square (RMS). The far-field distribution characteristic of the plasma-fabricated surface is analyzed, for which the energy radius deviation is 11 μm at 90% encircled energy. The experimental results demonstrates the potential of the APPJ approach for the manufacturing of complex surface topographies.

A Lagrangian–Eulerian stabilized collocation method (LESCM) for the fluid–structure interaction problems involving free surface flow is presented in this work, in which the structure is modeled by a rigid body. This method is an evolution of the material point method and particle-in-cell methods which are based on the hybrid Lagrangian–Eulerian description. The problem domain of the fluid and structures is discretized into the Lagrangian particles which carry the information, and the problem domain covering the entire movement space is discretized into the uniformly distributed Eulerian background nodes. The coupling governing equations of the fluid, structures and interfaces are solved by the meshfree stabilized collocation method (SCM) employing the reproducing kernel (RK) approximation on the Eulerian nodes. The solution is very efficient since the Eulerian nodes are set to be the initial positions in each time step and it is no need to reconstruct the shape function. The information mappings between the Lagrangian particles and the Eulerian nodes are also conducted by the RK approximation which can keep the mass and momentum conservation of the solution. The cell-cut algorithm is introduced to couple the fluid and the structures which can solve the fluid pressure and the fluid–structure interactional force simultaneously and avoid the complicated iterations of the traditional interaction algorithms. Several numerical examples including the collapse of water column with a rigid barrier, water entry of a half-buoyant circular cylinder and a rigid box rotating and sinking in water are simulated, which demonstrate the high accuracy, high efficiency and good stability of the proposed method. This method can be extensively applied to the engineering applications of fluid–rigid body interactions. • A new LESCM is presented for the fluid–rigid body interaction with a free surface. • The LESCM can solve the fluid pressure and interactional force simultaneously. • The LESCM can satisfy the mass and momentum conservation during the solution. • The RK function satisfying consistency condition ensures high accuracy of mapping. • The recalculation of shape functions can be avoided which improves the efficiency.
