This article examines university students' competence regarding plagiarism in their final theses, including bachelor's, master's, diploma theses, and dissertations. We used a structured survey to evaluate students' accuracy in answering twelve plagiarism-related statements. Despite extensive efforts, only 131 individuals participated. In addition to the knowledge about plagiarism, the survey also assessed perceptions, experiences, and awareness of the issue. The article begins by briefly defining plagiarism relevant to this study, focusing primarily on textual plagiarism, and outlines the existing legal frameworks in Austria and Germany. The survey results indicate that students possess satisfactory knowledge of plagiarism: over 80 % correctly assessed the truthfulness of at least nine statements, and ten students achieved a maximum score. This high level of knowledge is likely due to 76 % of respondents having previously engaged with plagiarism and 95 % claiming to understand what plagiarism is. However, there is room for improvement in the information university teachers provide. Information science in Germany is undergoing a transformation as several information science institutes have been closed. There are still three locations where information science can be studied. The authors of the article note that information science lacks a professional canon, which poses difficulties for graduates in the job market. The training content is often focused on library activities and lacks in-depth research. The handling of open access is criticized, and the question is raised whether an information science perspective on it would be meaningful. Die Hochschulen waren von Beginn der bundesdeutschen Geschichte an Austragungsort politischer Konflikte. Ihre große Stärke liegt darin, ein Forum für die Versachlichung, wissenschaftliche Vertiefung und Reflexion dieser Konflikte zu bieten. Die Konflikte in den letzten Jahren haben jedoch plastisch gemacht, dass dieses Ideal eines wissenschaftlichen Forums kein Selbstläufer ist, sondern Steuerungsleistungen aller Organe der Hochschulen bedarf und häufig auch Präsidien und Rektorate in die Pflicht nimmt, Auseinandersetzungen zu begleiten, zu gestalten und ultima ratio auch Grenzen zu setzen.

The Open Science and, above all, the Open Access movement have their origins primarily in the STEM subjects. The movement is dominated by their publication cultures and the corresponding infrastructures. With the technical developments of the last three decades, both have been gradually translated from analogue to digital. But what if openness is not translated but rethought? The paper presents the differences, challenges, and special needs of the arts and point out possible solutions. For this purpose, topics such as diversity, infrastructure for multimedia materials or homogeneous data management will be considered. After a brief outline practical reports from the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch (HfS), the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz (HZT) and the Universität der Künste (UdK) will show the situations for artistic institutions and their way to openness. A change of perspective is indispensable for rethinking, which is why the STEM subjects should take the arts into account. Digital education for geotechnical engineering: current status and further developments Digital teaching tools and materials have been used at universities (of applied sciences) for several years and open up new ways for higher education. However, depending on the type and intended quality, the creation of these teaching materials can be very time‐consuming and mean a lot of extra work for teachers. In a collaborative project to produce teaching videos for geotechnical field and laboratory experiments, the authors of this paper have experienced that a collaborative approach across university borders for the production of teaching materials has many advantages. Inspired by this collaboration, the authors of this report conducted a survey among German‐speaking geotechnical engineering chairs at (technical) universities and universities of applied sciences. After three semesters of mostly digital or hybrid teaching due to the Corona pandemic, one aim of this survey was to capture the use of digital teaching materials in the field of geotechnical engineering. Another goal was to initiate a network in which geotechnical engineering professors can exchange information on teaching topics and jointly create and use (digital) teaching materials.
