Recently, while there has been some attention to the issues online harassment in higher education, the impacts of online sexual harassment have been lost within the broader focus. There is negligible research looking at these specific experiences within Indian universities. To address this gap, this paper explores three different but interconnected forms of online sexual harassment—image-based sexual abuse, online chat rooms, and trolling in the context of Indian universities. Following the works of Liz Kelly (1987) and Clare McGlynn, Erika Rackley and Ruth Houghton (2017), this paper establishes the importance of understanding online sexual harassment as a continuum of other forms of offline sexual violence having physical, mental, and financial impacts on survivors, deeply affecting their sense of safety. In doing so, this paper attempts to develop a materialist understanding of online sexual harassment in Indian universities in turn demonstrating the confluence of India's patriarchal and casteist society and an authoritarian state who use technology as a powerful disciplining tool to push women and queer people out of digital public spaces. This research attempts to establish that this disciplining and silencing of women and queer people are essential for the spread of both techno-capitalism and Brahmanical Hindutva nationalism. AbstractSeveral non-traditional higher education destination countries have increased their efforts to attract international students. In this research, we examine the perceptions of international students enrolled in Indian universities and explore the aspects to observe for India to become a favoured study-abroad destination. Adopting a sequential mixed-method approach, this research proposes a conceptual model developed using an initial interview-based qualitative study. Subsequently, it tests the model via a quantitative questionnaire-based survey. The rating responses were analysed using SPSS and SmartPLS. Four distinct factors emerged: internationally recognised education at an affordable cost, campus readiness, employment opportunities in India, and the experience of Indian culture. Findings signal the prospect of competing on differentiation to attract international students. This study is a marketing intelligence input for the inbound international student mobility ambitions of the Indian government and other aspiring Asian higher education destinations.

India’s higher education sector faces significant challenges in attracting international students, evidenced by hosting less than 1 % of globally mobile students despite substantial efforts to increase this number. This study explores critical barriers preventing international students from choosing India as their destination, including financial constraints, safety concerns, and cultural integration issues. It also assesses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these decisions and examines the potential of online education as an alternative. Findings reveal that inadequate financial support and safety concerns are primary deterrents, with varying impacts across educational levels and regions. Recommendations include enhancing financial aid, improving safety measures, fostering cultural integration, and leveraging online education. Addressing these issues is crucial for India to align with global education trends and improve its international appeal.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in any society have the major role of providing knowledge, skills and competencies to their students to face the challenges of life and pursue successful careers in their fields. Employment and employability of the passing out students has been the area of concern for the HEIs, industry and government alike. Various reports have raised doubt about the employability of engineering and MBA graduates. Reports and surveys on employability abundance in suggestions that the employability of graduates is in the range of as low as 7 per cent (Business Standard, 2016) to a high of 47 per cent (India Skill Report, 2020). The current study is undertaken to report a statistic and study the growth of doctoral research in India under the domains of “library management” in the last 50 years from 1971 to 2020. Two central repositories of India, i.e. INFLIBNET “Shodhganga” and INFLIBNET “INDCAT” services, were used to curate data for the PhD theses for the studied period. A hypothesis was formulated and statistically proved that research on library management has witnessed significant growth during the period. A total of 304 theses were produced by 89 universities during the period that dealt with the subject of library management, out of which Gauhati University produced the highest (4.23% of the total). Northeastern and Southern India universities have a higher thesis productivity average per institution than the national average during the studied period. A positive correlation was found between the age of the Library and Information Science (LIS) department with thesis productivity. Significantly, several non-LIS departments have produced PhDs in the areas of library management during the studied period. Decade-wise growth study revealed that after the year 2000, Financial Planning, Human resource management, Total Quality Management, and Management of Digital resources are some prominent micro-level areas of the doctoral theses of Indian universities in the last 50 years.

Internationalization of higher education (IHE) has grown in its scope and priority. The history and approach of Indian universities to IHE has been distinct. The recent policy documents such as National Education Policy 2020 and draft document of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2020 emphasize on international cooperation of Indian universities. Though there is policy architecture, the response to IHE may differ across universities. This paper argues that, though a few universities have begun to recognize the importance and execution of international engagement, internationalization is not yet uniformly integrated in the Indian HE. The diversity in responses could be due to diversity in terms of number of types of higher education institutions, diversity among study programs, non-uniformities between number of incoming and outgoing students, distinct realities and attitudes towards internationalization among different university structures. We discuss how universities, as actors, are susceptible to change, and thus it is crucial to consider the structural differences among universities while assessing the effectiveness of policies and extent of institutional international engagement. The study may provide insights to higher education leaders and policymakers, who need to weigh different realities to strengthen the global competitiveness of Indian universities.

The advent of smart new technologies, smart mobile connections and online services has a great impact on all aspects our life and activities. Also this advancement has many impacts on the world around us. Today, libraries and library services have great impact on the world. The aim of the current study is to introduce readers with new technologies applied to Internet of Things (IoT) that can help libraries to improve their services and increase users' satisfaction. This study also tries to present about the possible areas of implementing the concept of IoT in academic libraries and user satisfaction on the IoT based library services and resources. Online survey from selected Educational Institutions was conducted and Data collected from a survey of a sample of 183 library users to analyse the importance and satisfaction of IoT based services and resources. Possible areas for implementing IoT in libraries - improve access to the library and its resources, collection management, recommendation service, location-based service, appliances management, usage statistics, and information literacy. The IoT technology will notify and fulfils the user-related queries through on internet i.e., self-check-in, self-check-out, overdue reminders, online fine payment, misplaced books on shelves, etc. The study observed that the maximum number of respondents used WhatsApp and Facebook respectively. Meantime, the libraries should concentrate more on interaction through videoconferencing like, Google Meet, Zoom etc. and library tutorial. 73% of the respondents are highly using the Swayam and the second highest is e-Pathshala with 48%. The institutes provide remote based library resources and services through cloud-based access on the basis of IoT i.e. Deep knowledge - remote access, Bookshelf - Mobile App and Ezproxy -Server. Most of the higher educational institutes prefer to subscribe the Deep knowledge portal on the basis of users' satisfaction. In IoT based modern library services, it is understood that three parameters such as Academic Performance Support and Infrastructure are having significant association with the satisfaction level of 5% and training is having significant association with the satisfaction level of 1% respectively. IoT based library services and resources can be implemented in the all sections of libraries functions and services i.e. collection management, Library Marketing services, Information literacy programs, effective utilization of online learning portals, accessing of library resources, etc. ICT and Information literacy should be compulsorily included as part of the curriculum in order to equip the students and faculties for face the current digital IoT environment efficiently. Results of a survey among current and former female students of colleges and universities in India show that subtle and explicit sexist practices are perpetuated in campus spaces by both male students and faculty members. Moreover, one in ten respondents reported being sexually assaulted by at least one person from their educational institutions. Further, we present a dynamic three-player game-theoretic model. The results highlight the role of institutions in lowering incidences of sexual harassment, and also incorporate the feminist critic of institutional responses in this context, thereby underlining the crucial role of both institutional action and cultural norms. With the introduction of the National Education Policy 2020, the focus of higher education in India is shifting towards the holistic development of students through multidisciplinary education. It also envisages higher education institutions with motivated, skilled, and focused faculty members who are capable of providing quality teaching-learning process as well as engaged in visible and relevant research. Also, universities are mainly meant to cater to large masses, conduct research that is of societal importance, and reach out to society through extension activities. Looking into these aspects, the quality assessment of the universities is of utmost importance for their complete development. The overall progress of universities will depend upon the formulation and implementation of policies leading to a better teaching-learning environment, infrastructure for teaching and research, mobilization of funds, excellence in research, and extension activities. Uniformity in the evaluation of the quality of the universities requires taking all these factors into consideration. National Assessment and Accreditation Council, which evaluates the quality of higher education institutions in India, grades the universities based broadly on these criteria. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the accreditation of universities based on their grades obtained in various criteria set by NAAC. In this paper, we analyzed systematically the doctoral research works produced by Indian Universities in the discipline of Library and Information Science (LIS). This study aims to find out the developmental pattern, current trends, popular focused areas, most productivity universities, and supervisors, as well as language and gender-wise productivity of LIS theses. Based on two Indian data sources a database was developed on LIS doctoral research and inferences were drawn as per the research questions formulated. It was observed that altogether 957 doctoral theses have been guided by 382 supervisors from 105 universities in India. Lotka's law of scientific productivity was applied for the first of it's kind to the 'guide-ship pattern of doctoral works' and found validated. Five broad areas of research are found to be the most focused themes of Indian LIS research. Language learning strategies (LLS) research began in the mid-1970s with the main idea of individual differences in learning a foreign language focusing primarily on the characteristics of a good language learner. In the literature review, the use of LLS has been reported to have a positive influence on proficiency. The goal of this research is to examine the relationship between the use of strategies in learning Spanish as a foreign language with its language proficiency and to analyse the use of LLS by successful students. The Strategy Inventory for language learning (SILL) questionnaire and two open-ended questions have been used in the present work for analysing the LLS. Further, the researchers used the end-semester grades to quantify proficiency. The study was carried out at two universities imparting Spanish courses at the undergraduate level. The current study is a mixed-method, cross-sectional, non-experimental type within the descriptive correlational framework. Statistical and interpretive analysis was used to examine self-reported learning strategies. The results showed no relation between the uses of selfreported learning strategies and language proficiency. However, there was a moderate relationship between the use of LLS and proficiency of 15 higher proficient students from both the universities. The aim of the present study is to contribute to research on knowledge management (KM) in Indian universities by studying about practices of knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, and knowledge leadership which are parts of the paramount framework of KM. A self-administered questionnaire comprising of 15 questions with 5-point Likert scale yielded data for 242 university employees from India. Factor analysis was carried out using the principal component analysis method. The participants of the study responded readily to the questions indicating their knowledge on KM. However, the responses of the respondents revealed that none of the Indian universities have a strategy to implement KM. In the current study, two factors were extracted using the PCA method, which explained a total accumulated variance of 66.948% for knowledge sharing and knowledge creation and leadership. The study revealed that the first principal component, knowledge sharing, and the second principal component, knowledge creation and leadership, were not correlated. To break the barrier and bridge the gap between knowledge sharing and knowledge creation and leadership in universities in the Indian context, the authors have proposed the SHEKARUN model. Previous studies have been conducted to assess the KM strategies in universities and higher education institutions all over the world. Background: In Indian Universities, much attention is not given to the mental and physical fitness of the students during routine teaching-learning sessions except in the courses related to physical education, medicine, and yoga. Even general health-related lessons are mostly not included in the curricula of most of the courses. This fact becomes important in the context of increasing prevalence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases among the younger population. Yogic training happens to be one of the promising and effective methods of training in developing mental and physical fitness. Objective of the Study: The objective of this study was to find out the effect of Pranayama on physical fitness and mental health in University-level healthy students. Method: A total of 108 adult volunteers of University-level healthy students of both gender, aged 17–28 years were included in the study. The selected individuals were divided into two groups, experimental- and control-with (n = 54) individuals in each group. The training period of Anuloma-viloma and Bhastrika Pranayama for experimental group was 12 weeks. Physical fitness parameters and mental health were assessed at the baseline and after completion of 12 weeks of the training intervention. Mental health was tested with a validated Mental Health Inventory Questionnaire. Control groups did not undergo Pranayama training. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in most of the physical fitness parameters after 12 weeks of Pranayama practice; however, the control group did not show significant improvement. The positive effect of Pranayama though was observed on mental health parameters in the experimental group, the difference was not statistically significant when compared with the control group. Conclusion: Anuloma-viloma and Bhastrika Pranayama appear to be effective in improving physical health parameters among healthy University students.

India is the world's third largest country in terms of higher education system, which includes about 889 universities and more than 39871 colleges. In the context of higher education, Electronic Thesis and Dissertations (ETDs) produced at universities/institutions, constitute important scholarly communication and knowledge source for all research and development activities. By the turn of the 21st century, ETDs repositories have become established components of many universities in India. In the electronic environment, ETDs form one of the most popular and useful open access resources for academicians and researchers at the global level. UGC, therefore, has made submission of ETDs of M.Phil./Ph.D. courses mandatory, in accordance with the Minimum Standards & Procedure for Award of PhD/M.Phil Degree, Regulation, 2009. It was done to facilitate open access to ETDs by researchers in Indian Universities and Institutes of Higher learning. Until December 2018, total numbers of ETDs submitted by 381 Indian universities in the repository is 210548. The paper tries to assess all the existing ranking systems which are used to rank higher educational institutions. The aim of the paper is to provide sufficient background to design and develop a new ranking system for a country. An attempt has been taken to find out the reasons of low ranking of Indian universities with respect to the world university ranking through webometric analysis of top ten Indian and Asian universities. A comparative study of top Ten Indian Universities and Asian universities is made with respect to significant web indicators, which are frequently used in ranking purpose. The results found that there is a significant difference of values of webpages, backlinks, rich files, Google Scholar and research publications between these top Ten Asian Universities and Indian universities. Owing to technological advancement, globalization, migration, social and cultural change, counseling needs have increased manifold in almost every segment of Indian mainland - be it school, corporate house, social sector etc. Yet counseling services, courses or training available in India is not at par with the need of the hour. This paper makes an attempt to challenge the idea that globalisation is an inevitable free market process that fundamentally changes the nature of economic competition, with respect to the higher education market in India. Looking at the intake of foreign students in Indian Universities (2000-2008) it presents an analysis of the sector where globalisation is reasonably expected. The thought that is carried in the paper is that this market (higher education) in India is characterised by a process of internationalisation. With available data argument is developed to show how this process is influenced by a range of economic, social and political factors that have distinctly national or Indian characteristics. More specifically, evidences are created on the fact that Indian universities may tend to draw heavily on those foreign sources that most resemble local origin. Accordingly, the paper concludes that radical notions of education market globalisation are fundamentally flawed in case of India since they fail to account for the ways in which education market behaviour is socially embedded in India. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to examine the university teaching staff's perception about functions, benefits and barriers of human resource information system (HRIS). It also aims to explore the relevance of attitudinal/demographic diversity with focused HRIS dimensions. Design/methodology/approach -- A 26-item questionnaire was developed on the basis of similar research studies. Responses were collected through electronic mail from 90 faculty members of seven state universities in India. Descriptive statistics along with t-test and analysis of variance were used to answer the research questions. Findings -- The results of the study reported that HRIS is mostly used for administrative purpose and not taken as strategic requirement. Results also revealed that the perceived functions, benefits and barriers in adoption of HRIS do not vary group-wise. Research limitations/implications -- The findings of the study potentially can help in developing and implementing of HRIS in similar types of organizations. Originality/value -- Past literature on HRIS mainly comes from the developed countries and is confined to for-profit organizations. The paper analyses the rankings of 25 most productive Indian universities in overall social sciences and in its four subfields, based on various quantitative indicators, such as the total number of papers and international collaborative papers, qualitative indicators such as the average number of citations per paper and h-index value, and in terms of new composite indicator (which combines quantitative and qualitative aspects). Many universities changed their ranking positions, when their ranking based on quantitative and qualitative indicator is compared with composite indicator. Finally, analysed that the ranking, based on composite indicators, gives much better results than other indicators as it combines both quantity and quality. The overall ranking of top 25 Indian universities in social sciences give an indicative, if not nearly comprehensive, assessment of how the social science education is performing as generators of new knowledge. The rise of English as the global language has led to a greater demand for English in the job market. The last few years have witnessed the opening up of thousands of lucrative job opportunities for the graduates proficient in English. Taking into account the requirement for skilled workforce, many educational institutions in the country have started courses that will, hopefully, improve the students' communicative competence in English and make them employable. However, the syllabi revision for most of these courses in English is based on mere assumptions rather than actual English language needs of the employment sector. The national committees, like Curriculum Development Committee in English (2001), have never asked employers about the English language skills they expect from Indian graduates. Even the syllabus compilers design the syllabi on the assumed future needs of the students. Though, the job opportunities for the graduates proficient in English are spread across such diverse areas as journalism and mass communication, management, tourism, law, entertainment industry, visual communication, library science, IT, shopping malls, advertising agencies, etc., the focus seems to be on providing workforce only to IT-enabled industries. The Yashpal Committee Report (2009) states that the problems of the students graduating from Indian universities, like the lack of communicative and analytical abilities, can be addressed by developing curricula appropriate to the needs of the students and by improving the syllabi of the courses offered in the conventional degree programmes. In the light of globally changing English language needs of the twenty-first century, this paper attempts to find out the English language skills expected to the employers from their prospective employees. The status and functioning of Indian universities is explored in the Indian context from an NSI perspective. Whilst NSI is the main guiding post, the very social and economic context of Indian situation reflect the theoretical underpinning of this paper. The First part serves as a background to knowledge institutions and university sector in India. Basically, it identifies the main actors and agencies of India's NSI, namely, public research system comprising national laboratories, main science and technology agencies and councils and the university system. Given the focus of the paper on Indian universities in a macro historical perspective, the Second part is devoted to trace the growth and structure of university sector in terms of three phases, namely, 1940s to 1980; 1980 to 1990; and the era of liberalization after 1991. The Third part of the paper is devoted to knowledge production and knowledge diffusion. There are some important findings coming out of the quantitative data. It is argued that Indian production of doctorates is falling behind countries like China. Further, Indian universities are yet to achieve Humboltian goal. The Indian Scenario in information exchange is far outdated. The information transfer takes place in either physical form or in an electronic form via Email. The information about the universities is registered with the University Grants Commission (UGC). The collection of information of the approx. 500 universities by UGC periodically and updating in their database is a very tedious task. Discussion and debate on our universities is marked by sharp and growing disagreement between proponents of two different and opposite points of view. There are those who maintain that the universities should be governed solely by pure merit without any consideration of their social composition; they do not generally pause to consider whether merit itself can be defined unequivocally by one single criterion. On the other side are those who maintain that the universities should become fully inclusive socially and give representation to all castes and communities in proportion to their numbers; they have little sympathy for the university's need to discriminate among students and teachers on the basis of their academic ability and performance. If the universities value their autonomy and want to protect it, they must show more initiative in devising and adopting policies that will change their social composition in the long run and make them more diverse and socially more inclusive.
