Introduction: In Colombia, the practices of the men who have sex with men (MSM) who use sexualized drugs have been little studied, which makes it difficult to design relevant programs for the prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Objectives: To interpret the contents on vulnerability to HIV/STIs in MSM who use sexualized drugs in Armenia and Pereira, during 2022, for which they inquired about drug use practices, risk perception and strategies for risk and harm reduction against HIV and STIs and drug use. Methods: In this qualitative research, a content analysis was made from twenty-two semi-structured interviews with MSM. Results: The participants have normalized HIV, which makes their self-care practices more flexible, implement risk and harm reduction strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of drug use, and seek a balance between safety and pleasure. Conclusions: The phenomena known as "prevention fatigue" and "resistance habitus" were observed, as well as the need to develop specific prevention strategies in this population group. Background: People living with HIV have an increased risk of cancer compared to the general population. However, with the increase in life expectancy and advances in antiretroviral therapy, the survival of patients with cancer and HIV has changed. Objective: To determine the survival of patients living with HIV and cancer in Cali, Colombia. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the Fundación Valle del Lili, Cali, Colombia. Data from the HIV database was crossed with data from the hospital and population-based cancer registries between 2011-2019. Patients <18 years, limited available clinical information on the diagnosis and treatment of HIV and cancer, and non-oncological tumor diagnosis were excluded. Results: A total of 173 patients were included. The frequencies of AIDS-defining neoplasms were: Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (42.8%), Kaposi sarcoma (27.8%), and cervical cancer (4.6%). Overall survival was 76.4% (95% CI 68.9-82.3) at five years. Poorer survival was found in patients with AIDS-defining infections (56.9% vs. 77.8%, p=0.027) and non-AIDS-defining infections (57.8% vs. 84.2%, p=0.013), while there was better survival in patients who received antiretroviral therapy (65.9% vs. 17.9%, p=0.021) and oncological treatment (66.7% vs. 35.4%, p<0.001). The presence of non-AIDS-defining infections increases the risk of dying (HR = 2.39, 95% CI 1.05-5.46, p=0.038), while oncological treatment decreases it (HR = 0.33, 95% CI 0.14-0.80, p=0.014). Conclusions: In people living with HIV, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Kaposi sarcoma are the most common neoplasms. Factors such as AIDS-associated and non-AIDS-associated infections have been identified as determinants of survival. Cancer treatment seems to improve survival. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El propósito de la presente investigación es proponer un modelo de los factores de la comunicación (contenido, estilo, contexto y tiempo) sobre la consistencia en el uso del condón en hombres. Participaron 1524 hombres a través de un muestreo intencionado a quienes se les invitó a responder una encuesta, posteriormente se formaron tres grupos, con diagnóstico de VIH, que se han realizado una prueba de VIH, pero que su resultado es negativo, y que nunca se han hecho una prueba de detección. Inicialmente, se muestran las diferencias entre los grupos y correlaciones entre variables, como resultados previos a la realización de ecuaciones estructurales. Segundo, se probó el modelo en toda la muestra y por grupo, el primer modelo que consideró a todos los participantes se ajustó adecuadamente, al hacer este mismo análisis, pero por grupo, los resultados fueron similares, aunque en el caso de los hombres con VIH se incorporó el tiempo de diagnóstico de VIH para un mejor ajuste del modelo. Los resultados se discuten en términos de la evidencia empírica del modelo y del diseño de programas de intervención que promuevan el uso del condón en hombres.

Background: Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum, transmitted mainly by direct contact with the lesion. Primary syphilis usually presents with a chancre at the site of infection, which is highly contagious and resolves without treatment. The aim of this article is to illustrate an unusual location of a syphilitic chancre, in order to consider this diagnosis within the approach to patients with oral ulcers. Clinical case: a 30-year-old man who presented a dermatosis located in the left labial commissure, characterized by a painless ulcer of 1 cm in diameter of 20 days of evolution. The patient has a history of HIV/AIDS. A punch biopsy of the ulcer was performed with which the diagnosis of syphilitic chancre was made. The patient was treated with benzathine penicillin G, presenting resolution of the dermatosis. Conclusions: Primary syphilis is characterized by the development of the syphilitic chancre, which is the first manifestation of syphilis in up to 60% of cases. Extragenital presentation is rare, with only 12-14% of all cases, and of these between 40-70% occur in the mouth, being the lips the most frequent location. Oral manifestations can represent a diagnostic challenge due to its wide spectrum of clinical presentations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introducción. Analizar la relación entre el estigma percibido por VIH y la adherencia al tratamiento antirretroviral (TAR) en personas con VIH en la ciudad de México. Material y métodos. Se utilizó un diseño mixto incluyendo una encuesta transversal y entrevistas a profundidad. En la encuesta se aplicó un cuestionario a 557 personas con VIH de dos instituciones públicas. En el cuestionario se incluyó una escala de estigma asociado al VIH con dos variables: ocultamiento de su seroestado a personas no cercanas y revelación de su seroestado a familiares y amigos. Mediante modelos de regresión logística se evaluó la asociación del estigma percibido con la baja adherencia al TAR, i.e. la omisión de la toma de medicamentos antirretrovirales en el día, la semana y el mes previos. Las entrevistas a profundidad tuvieron la finalidad para explorar las experiencias respecto a las dificultades para adherirse al TAR. Resultados. Las personas que ocultaban su enfermedad tuvieron mayor probabilidad de no adherencia (RM=2.33). Los entrevistados que no habían revelado su seroesta¬do a personas cercanas también tuvieron una mayor probabilidad de no adherencia (RM=2.35). Coincidentemente, en las entrevistas se evidenció que las experiencias de discriminación o las expectativas de ser discriminado hacen que las personas oculten su enfermedad y esto propicia la omisión de toma de medicamentos. Discusión. Es necesario promover acciones orientadas a eliminar el estigma asociado al VIH como una medida fundamental para incrementar la adherencia al TAR.

The COVID-19 pandemic and societal response implemented may interact with the ongoing HIV epidemic in multiple ways. There are approximately 87000 people living with HIV (PLWH) who are at risk of developing COVID-19 in Peru and 67,000 of them are on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and at risk of limitations in their access to ART, compromising their adherence and their health during the pandemic. Finally, the potential effect of the pandemic on the mental health of PLWH is not documented. This opinion aims to: describe the clinical implications of the HIV/SARS-CoV-2 coinfection; discuss the challenges to the continuity of care of PLWH in Peru during the COVID-19 crisis; and comment possible implications that the COVID-19 crisis may pose on the mental health of PLWH.

Background: despite combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) effectiveness for the control of HIV infection, 15-30% of these patients develop Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS), consisting in a clinical worsening at the beginning cART. It is important to know the prevalence and characteristics of people with IRIS to generate prevention strategies. Objective: to describe the prevalence and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with IRIS HIV-related, from a health care facility in Antioquia - Colombia. Methods: in a population of 515 patients that started cART between 2013-2018, we developed a cross-sectional study with a simple random sampling of 188 HIV patients. The presence of IRIS was defined according to French criteria or high suspected IRIS in those who had insufficient clinical information and have developed an opportunistic infection (OI) after cART initiation. Results: the prevalence of IRIS was 12.8% (12.5% by French criteria and 87.5% by high suspected IRIS). IRIS patients were 25% women, median age 41.5 years. 87.5% presented OI. From these, the most common was tuberculosis disease (72.7%). Conclusions: in the era of cART, there are still an important number of IRIS cases, which indicates the need to continue implementing preventive and diagnostic protocols and early treatment initiation. A pesar de las estrategias de prevención en la transmisión materno-infantil del virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH), continúan naciendo niños infectados. El objetivo del presente estudio fue describir el estado de los niños con VIH por transmisión materno-infantil. Entre 2012 y 2018, nacieron 84 niños con VIH en hospitales de Lima y Callao. De los 68 casos incluidos en este estudio, el 82% de las madres no recibió tratamiento antirretroviral y el 25% tuvo una prueba VIH negativa durante el embarazo. En cuanto a los niños, el 59% fue diagnosticado de VIH después del año de edad, el 82% tiene actualmente carga viral menor de 1000 copias y el 87% tiene buen estado de salud. El diagnóstico y tratamiento temprano del niño con VIH le ofrece una mejor calidad de vida. Es necesario desarrollar estudios que identifiquen puntos críticos en la atención de la gestante para eliminar la transmisión vertical del VIH.

Objective: To assess the five- and ten-year cardiovascular disease risk in HIV-positive patients on antiretroviral therapy, using the Framingham risk score and the Data collection on adverse effects of anti-HIV drugs (D:A:D) study. Materials and methods: An observational prospective cross-sectional study. HIV-positive patients on antiretroviral treatment from a referral center for HIV patients were included in the study between January 1 and April 30, 2019. A five- and ten-year cardiovascular risk assessment was performed using the Framingham risk score and the D:A:D study. Additionally, both risk models were compared through statistical models. Results: The study population consisted of 159 patients with a mean age of 48.90 years ± 9.90. The mean cardiovascular risk according to the five-year Framingham risk score was 2.70 % ± 2.80, the ten-year Framingham risk score was 6.10 % ± 5.70, the five-year D:A:D study was 3.50 % ± 4.10, the ten-year D:A:D study was 6.90 % ± 7.70, and the ten-year Framingham risk score recalculated for Colombia (multiplied by 0.75) was 4.50 % ± 4.20. Using a logistic regression model, it was determined that the ten-year D:A:D study provided the greatest number of variables significantly related to a high cardiovascular risk. Conclusions: The study showed a significant difference between the risk models. Both the five- and ten-year D:A:D study provided a better cardiovascular disease risk estimation than the five- and ten-year Framingham model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetivo. Realizar la detección y tipificación de virus papiloma humano (VPH) en la cavidad bucal de un grupo de pacientes VIH positivos, atendidos en el Centro de Atención de Pacientes con Enfermedades Infectocontagiosas (CAPEI) de la Facultad de Odontología-Universidad Central de Venezuela. Métodos. Se evaluaron 31 hisopados bucales de pacientes VIH positivos para la infección por VPH, mediante el Sistema de Hibridación Reversa de INNO-LiPA que detecta 28 genotipos de VPH de alto y bajo riesgo oncogénico. Resultados. El 61,0% de las muestras evaluadas presentó infección por VPH. El genotipo 6 fue el más frecuente (73,68%), seguido de los genotipos 18, 11 y 16 con 63,16%, 37,0% y 32,0% respectivamente. El 74,0% de las muestras positivas para VPH presentaron infecciones múltiples, siendo más frecuente la coinfección mixta (35,70%) con los genotipos de VPH-6/18 de bajo y alto riesgo oncogénico, 21,40% con los genotipos 6/11/18 y 6/11, cada una. Seguido de 14,30% de las muestras que presentaron infección con VPH-6/11/16/18 y 7,10% con los genotipos 11/16 de bajo y alto riesgo oncogénico. Conclusiones. La alta frecuencia de infección con VPH de alto riesgo oncogénico y la presencia de múltiples genotipos observada en la cavidad bucal de individuos VIH positivos, que no presentaron lesiones compatibles con esta infección en el examen extra e intrabucal, indica que los métodos moleculares de diagnóstico son importantes en la detección de infecciones subclínicas y latentes, lo que puede permitir un mejor seguimiento y manejo más oportuno de estos pacientes con mayor riesgo de desarrollar neoplasias malignas en la cavidad bucal.

Resumen La presente investigación pretende conocer las prácticas en torno a la sexualidad y el género de las mujeres indígenas, sus conocimientos y percepción de riesgo a la infección por VIH. Para ello, se realizó una investigación descriptiva exploratoria, con método cualitativo, en la cual se aplicó entrevista semiestructurada a mujeres indígenas de comunidades rurales en México. Los resultados muestran que los estereotipos de género marcan diferencias sustanciales entre hombres y mujeres. Los cambios tecnológicos y la migración han originado cambios en el acceso a la información y en las dinámicas familiares. A las mujeres se les da más información sobre salud sexual y reproductiva en el ámbito público, pero esto no se refleja en el ámbito privado, en que les resulta difícil hablar estos temas con sus familiares, principalmente su pareja, lo cual impide que tengan control sobre su salud sexual y reproductiva. Existe un desconocimiento sobre el VIH y otras infecciones de transmisión sexual; la mayoría de las mujeres no se percibe en riesgo de infección, y a nivel comunitario se segrega a las personas con VIH. Es necesario diseñar, en colaboración con ellas, intervenciones con un enfoque intercultural y con perspectiva de género.

Assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS suggests investments in interdisciplinary practice, replacing the fragmentary conception with a comprehensive understanding of health. Thus, the objective was to know the perception of people living with HIV/AIDS on the assistance received by the multidisciplinary team in the perspective of comprehensive care. It is a qualitative, exploratory study, based on the theory of integrality in health. The study included 18 people living with HIV/AIDS accompanied by the specialized assistance service. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, and submitted to content analysis according to Bardin. The categories emerged: "Perception of health care as a way of welcoming the user", "Perception of assistance to health needs as a guarantee of access to procedures and services" and "Health care centered on the figure of a single professional". It was found that the assistance of the multidisciplinary team is barely noticeable by users, who recognize only one professional as responsible for care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: HIV/AIDS is affecting more and more women. Adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) is decisive for those infected to achieve quality of life. Purpose: The aim of the present study is to determine the degree of adherence displayed by a group of women with HIV/AIDS and to identify those factors and circumstances which might influence their adherence to ART. Method: A sequential mixed model research design was applied. The subjects studied consisted of 86 women diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and treated with ART. Findings and discussion: Qualitative data were collected from 18 of these women. 59.3% of participants were non-adherents. The determining factors for non-adherence were level of education, age, income, as well as personal and/or interpersonal factors such as socio-familial support, perceived stigma, self-stigma and factors related to disease and treatment. Introducción. A pesar de los avances clínicos, las infecciones oportunistas son la principal causa de morbimortalidad en pacientes con el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (HIV). Objetivos. Estimar la prevalencia de las infecciones oportunistas en pacientes con HIV afiliados al sistema de salud, y establecer su asociación con factores sociodemográficos y clínicos. Materiales y métodos. Se hizo un estudio observacional con enfoque analítico. Se analizaron 37.325 registros de personas con HIV afiliadas al sistema de salud. Se hizo el análisis bivariado usando las pruebas de ji al cuadrado y de varianza (ANOVA) ajustadas por Bonferroni y una regresión logística múltiple para la población adulta, con el fin de establecer la asociación entre los factores sociodemográficos y clínicos, y la presencia, por lo menos, de una infección oportunista como variable de respuesta. Resultados. El 18 % de las personas había tenido, por lo menos, una infección oportunista. Las más frecuentes en adultos fueron la tuberculosis y la toxoplasmosis cerebral, y en menores de 13 años, las neumonías y las diarreas. La prevalencia fue significativamente mayor en hombres (OR=1,5; IC95% 1,4-1,6), en mayores de 40 años (OR=1,6; IC95% 1,3-2,0), en desplazados (OR=1,7; IC95% 1,5-1,9) y en afiliados al régimen subsidiado y de excepción (OR=2,7; IC95% 2,1-3,4). En cuanto a los factores clínicos, la asociación fue significativa en pacientes diagnosticados más de diez años atrás (OR=1,6; IC95 1,5-1,7) y en aquellos con tratamiento antirretroviral (OR=4,4; IC95% 3,9-5,1) o discontinuidad en el tratamiento (OR=1,7; IC95 1,6-1,8). El análisis multivariado se hizo en adultos en estadio A de la infección, con resultados similares. Conclusiones. A pesar de la naturaleza prevenible de las infecciones oportunistas, su prevalencia fue alta y afectó predominantemente a los grupos más desfavorecidos de la sociedad.

Objetivo: Describir los tipos parasitosis intestinales y el estado inmunológico en pacientes portadores del virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH +). Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, comparativo y retrospectivo, a través de la selección de 81 historias clínicas pertenecientes al Servicio de Infectología del Centro Médico Naval "Cirujano Mayor Santiago Távara", con el permiso de las autoridades del centro. Las historias contaban con el único criterio de inclusión considerado en la investigación que fue diagnóstico de infección por VIH. Los datos que se obtuvieron fueron los resultados de examen coproparasitológico y citometría de flujo para linfocitos T CD4, la presencia o ausencia de sintomatología intestinal, y pertenencia al programa de tratamiento antirretroviral de alta actividad (TARGA) o al tratamiento antirretroviral convencional. Resultados: El 37 % presentaron parasitosis intestinal. Se observó con mayor frecuencia a Entamoeba coli (20 %), que es no patógeno para el ser humano. Entre los patógenos hallados se encuentran Isospora belli (15,6 %), Giardia lamblia (15,6 %), Blastocystis hominis (11,2 %) y Cryptosporidium sp. (11,2 %). El 32,1 % de los casos presentaron diarrea, mientras que el 67,9 % fueron asintomáticos. En el grupo de asintomáticos, el promedio de CD4 es de 280 células/μL, mientras en los que tuvieron diarrea fue de 195 células/μL. Conclusiones: Los enteroparásitos Isospora belli, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Blastocystis hominis son hallados con mayor frecuencia en recuentos de CD4 200 células/uL.

Objetivo: Evaluar el riesgo de enfermedad cardiovascular a cinco y a diez años en pacientes con infección por VIH en terapia antirretroviral, por medio de las escalas Framingham y Data collection on Adverse Effects of Anti-HIV Drugs Study. Materiales y métodos: Estudio observacional de corte transversal y prospectivo. Se incluyeron pacientes con infección por el VIH en tratamiento antirretroviral de un centro de referencia para pacientes con VIH, entre el 1 de enero y el 30 de abril de 2019. Se realizó evaluación del riesgo cardiovascular a cinco y a diez años a través de los modelos de predicción de Framingham y la escala Data collection on Adverse Effects of Anti-HIV Drugs Study (DAD), y una comparación entre ellos a través de modelos estadísticos. Resultados: Se incluyeron 159 pacientes, con un promedio de edad de 48,90 años ± 9,90. La media de valoración del riesgo cardiovascular por escala de Framingham a 5 años fue de 2,70 % ± 2,80; Framingham a 10 años fue 6,10 % ± 5,70; DAD a 5 años, 3,50 % ± 4,10; DAD a 10 años, de 6,90 % ± 7,70; y el riesgo escala de Framingham a 10 años recalculado para Colombia (multiplicado por 0,75) fue de 4,50 ± 4,20. A través de un modelo de regresión logística, se determinó que la puntuación con mayor número de variables significativamente relacionadas con el resultado de riesgo cardiovascular alto es el modelo DAD a 10 años. Conclusiones: El estudio evidenció una diferencia significativa, con mayor riesgo estimado de enfermedad cardiovascular al utilizar el modelo DAD en comparación con el Framingham, tanto para la estimación a cinco años como a diez.

Objective: to evaluate factors associated with inadequate control of viral load in individuals with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the The Center for Assistance to Sexually Transmitted Infections/SIDA/Viral Hepatitis (CAP) of Itajubá, MG, Brazil. The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome remains a health challenge in Brazil. Therapeutic failures, characterized by detectable viral load, must have their causes evaluated. Among the most relevant reasons is the lack of adherence to treatment. Materials and methods: this is an observational, cross-sectional and documentary study of 261 medical records. The variables analyzed were socio-epidemiological characteristics and laboratory tests for viral load and CD4+ T lymphocytes, poor adherence in history or currently, duration of antiretroviral therapy (ART) use, depression and/or anxiety, use of illicit drugs, follow-up time at the CAP. Results: among the patients, 90.42% had an undetectable viral load and 64.37% had a CD4+ T count ≥500 in the last available test. Some characteristics were related to detectable viral load in the last exam: history of poor adherence during treatment (p<0,0001), inconsistent use of ART (p<0,0001) and use of illicit drugs (p=0,0155). Anxiety and/or depression were not statistically significant (p=0,3321). Conclusion: history of poor adherence, inconsistent use of ART and use of illicit drugs were associated with an increased risk of virologic failure. Early identification of groups at risk of poor adherence to treatment can support the development of intervention strategies in an transdisciplinary way to improve adherence and generate better results in the control of HIV infection. Introducción: El Rategravir pertenece a los inhibidores de integrasas, quedando demostrado y aprobado por diversos ensayos clínicos como un potente antirretroviral seguro y eficaz para el tratamiento de pacientes infectados con el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH), con buena tolerancia y baja toxicidad, incluyéndose en el esquema de tercera línea o rescate y se inicia cuando los esquemas de primera y segunda línea han fracasado. Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia y seguridad en condiciones clínicas reales del uso de Raltegravir dentro de los esquemas de la Terapia Antiretroviral de Gran Actividad (TARGA) en pacientes con infección por VIH en un hospital de referencia del seguro social en Perú. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional retrospectivo en pacientes con diagnóstico de infección por VIH que iniciaron tratamiento dentro del esquema TARGA basados en Raltegravir con seguimiento y control a los 6 meses. Se presentaron medidas de resumen de frecuencias y porcentajes para las variables cualitativas, así como medias y desviación estándar para las variables cuantitativas en base a los resultados de las pruebas de normalidad. Los datos fueron procesados y analizados en el software estadístico SPSS versión 22. Resultados: El género masculino fue el más afectado con un 76%(n=119) del total. El rango de edad más frecuente fue el comprendido entre los 45 a 55 años (25,4%; n=40). Las comorbilidades más frecuentes fueron Diabetes mellitus e Hipertensión arterial, con reducción exponencial de la carga viral y elevación de los niveles de linfocitos CD4. The COVID-19 pandemic and societal response implemented may interact with the ongoing HIV epidemic in multiple ways. There are approximately 87000 people living with HIV (PLWH) who are at risk of developing COVID-19 in Peru and 67,000 of them are on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and at risk of limitations in their access to ART, compromising their adherence and their health during the pandemic. Finally, the potential effect of the pandemic on the mental health of PLWH is not documented. This opinion aims to: describe the clinical implications of the HIV/SARS-CoV-2 coinfection; discuss the challenges to the continuity of care of PLWH in Peru during the COVID-19 crisis; and comment possible implications that the COVID-19 crisis may pose on the mental health of PLWH. El objetivo de esta investigación fue estimar la seropositividad de VIH y factores asociados en donantes de un banco de sangre de la ciudad de Medellín - Colombia, 2005 - 2018. Se realizó un estudio transversal en 166 603 donantes del banco de Sangre de la Escuela de Microbiología de la Universidad de Antioquia. Las estimaciones se basaron en proporciones y razones de odds con sus intervalos de confianza del 95 %. La mayoría de donantes fueron del Valle de Aburrá, 50,2 % hombres, 65,4 % altruistas, 59,3 % de primera vez y 81,2 % captados fuera de las instalaciones del Banco. La seropositividad general de VIH fue 0,275 % (IC 95 %=0,25-0,30), en las frecuencias específicas fue del 0,324 % en hombres y 0,224 % en mujeres; 0,299 % en donantes con edad entre 18 - 40 años, 0,212% en los de 41 - 65 años, y del 0,333 % en los de primera vez; 0,213 % en lo no repetitivos y 0,149 % en los donantes repetitivos. Se concluye que la seropositividad de la infección fue similar en comparación con investigaciones previas, con un descenso importante desde el 2013. El riesgo de infección fue estadísticamente mayor en los hombres, los menores de 40 años y donantes de primera vez. Esto es importante para conocer la línea base y evaluar acciones de prevención en la población de estudio, orientar estudios etiológicos y mejorar políticas de hemovigilancia.

Foundation: The main struggle against the human immunodeficiency virus is prevention, fro that it is necessary to take into consideration the most vulnerable groups and the associated risk factors.Objective: to characterize men infected by human immunodeficiency socio-demographically and behaviorally. Method: Men case and control study from Health Area I, Cienfuegos Municipality. The population was described according to socio-demographic and behavioral variables selected and the differences between cases and controls were set according to these variables. The cases were diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus, from 1986 to 2013, information obtained in the Department of Epidemiology of this area; the 56 controls were paired by the same age of cases and were selected two from each one. A survey was applied to both groups. The Squared-Ji was used to identify the association for estimating the risks it was used the Odds ratio; A level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: The main factors identified were the marital link or consensual relation, not using condoms, antecedents of sexually transmitted infections, having sex with other men, transactional sex, and the visit to places of meeting. Conclusion: The identified risk factors, behavioral ones with strongest presence, denote that there is still lack of risk perception. For this reason, it is necessary to provide more information to people that allow them building knowledge to have a healthy sexual life.

The objective of this study was to estimate the seropositivity of HIV and associated factors in donors of a blood bank in the city of Medellín- Colombia, 2005 - 2018. A cross-sectional study in 166 603 donors of the Blood Bank of the School of Microbiology. Estimates were based proportions and odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. The majority of donors were from the Aburrá Valley, 50.2% men, 65.4% altruistic, 59.3% first time and 81.2% received outside the blood bank. The general seropositivity of HIV was 0.275% (95% CI = 0.25-0.30), the specific proportions were 0.324% in men and 0.224% in women; 0.299% in donors with 18-40 years old and 0.212% in the group of 41-6540 years old, and 0.333% in donors of first-time, 0.213% in non-repetitive and 0.149% in repetitive donors. The conclusion was that the seropositivity of the infection was similar in comparison with previous investigations, with a significant decrease since 2013. The risk of infection was statistically higher in men, under 40 years and first-time donors. All this takes is important to know the baseline and evaluate prevention actions in the study population, guide etiological studies, and improve hemovigilance policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetive. To analyze the knowledge, attitudes and preventive practices of the Peruvian female population on HIV-AIDS according to Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2013-2017. Material and methods: The results of the National Demographic Survey on Health (ENDES) continued 2013-2017 were used. The dependent variables were knowledge, attitudes and preventive practices against the disease. Results: The departments with the highest knowledge were for 2013: Tumbes (26.7%) and Ucayali (26.7%), Tacna (23.5%), Junín (19.1%), Lima (19.0%) and Lambayeque (18.7%), and by 2017, higher knowledge was found in: Callao (16.8%), Tacna (16,4%), Tumbes (16.0%) and Lambayeque (16.0%), Lima (15,6%) and Ica (13.1%). The highest percentage of high knowledge (> 80%) of the age group were 30-34 years for 2013 and 2017, and 40-44 years for 2014, 2015, 2016. The type of place of residence was the Urban; and Rural in 2014. The natural region was Metropolitan Lima. The usual place of residence was the Capital. The educational level was the postgraduate level, and Higher-University level for 2017. The socioeconomic stratum was the Very rich. The question with the highest percentage of correctness of knowledge answered most frequently was the number 1°, Do you know where the HIV test is performed? The question with the lowest percentage of correct attitude was the number 5° If a doctor has infection due to HIV, should he be allowed to continue his work in the health facility? The question with the lowest percentage of practice success was number 1° Used Condom use in your last sexual relationship?. Conclusions: The knowledge of the Peruvian female population on HIV-AIDS according to Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2013-2017 is the most common knowledge, the appropriate attitudes are located in the 63% percentile, and the practices Global preventives are incorrect. Introduction: HIV/AIDS is a major global public health issue that requires identifying strategies to improve the functional conditions of people living with this condition. Objective: To characterize the motor function of individuals living with HIV in Bogotá D.C, Colombia. Materials and methods: Transversal descriptive study involving people living with HIV and enrolled in a comprehensive care program. Clinical variables, body composition, grip strength, dynamic balance and aerobic capacity were assessed. Sociodemographic and clinical data were analyzed to obtain means and standard deviations. Results: Thirty patients were included in the study, of which 77% were males with an average age of 54 years, body weight of 68kg, and height of 165cm. All patients had received antiretroviral therapy for >15 years. Sensory deficit, weak grip strength and good aerobic capacity were observed. Conclusions: Knowing the characteristics of motor function, including sensory capacity, balance, muscle strength and body composition, allows designing specific strategies to regulate the functional impairment that people living with HIV/AIDS may develop during the aging process.

Objetivo: Describir los comportamientos sexuales en personas VIH positivas en tres ciudades de Colombia antes y después de conocer el diagnóstico e identificar cambios en estos comportamientos. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo, de corte trasversal, en el que participaron 85 individuos de tres ciudades colombianas, entrevistados durante el año 2011. Se cumplió con los parámetros éticos para investigaciones con personas. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el software SPSS 18.0. Resultados: Se encontraron diferencias significativas al comparar el comportamiento sexual antes y después de conocer el diagnóstico VIH positivo. el 23% de los entrevistados manifestó no haber iniciado actividades sexuales después del diagnóstico, el 62.5% empezó a usar el condón en todas sus relaciones sexuales. Las relaciones sexuales con personas VIH positivo aumentaron a un 35.4%. Las infecciones de transmisión sexual disminuyeron a un 12.3%. El consumo de alcohol previo al inicio de relaciones sexuales disminuyó a un 31.8%. Conclusiones: Se encontraron cambios en los comportamientos de riesgo de las personas después de recibir el diagnóstico; sin embargo, dichas modificaciones no son suficientes por tratarse de la trasmisión de una infección mortal y de elevados costos socioeconómicos.

Introducción: En el contexto de las personas que viven con VIH (PVVIH), la dislipidemia es un tema que se ha venido discutiendo ampliamente, tanto por su origen multifactorial y sus implicaciones cardiovasculares, como por las posibles estrategias de prevención. De este modo, este estudio tiene por objeto evaluar la presencia de la dislipidemia en personas que viven con VIH y su asociación con aspectos sociodemográficos, actitudinales y clínicos. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio analítico, transversal realizado entre 2014 y 2016. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas en las que se utilizaban cuestionarios y se consultaban las historias médicas. Para analizar la asociación, se utilizaron las pruebas Chi-Cuadrado y Exacto de Fisher, y la estadística Kappa para análisis de concordancia, con un nivel de significancia de p
