The most prevalent of DM is 2 type that caused by insensitivity cell receptor to insulin. This 2 type of DM can cause by a lack of chromium (Cr), a vital part of the receptor. Thus, the replacement habit of using white crystal sugar by sugarcane juice as a sweetener is assumed to significantly decrease DM prevalence, due to higher Cr and secondary metabolites content of sugarcane juice than sugar. The aims of this research are to analyze the mineral (Cr, K, and Ca) and phenolic and flavonoid contents of juice and brown sugarcane relative to white sugar. Mineral contents were determined using the ICP method, while the flavonoid was analyzed qualitatively using a phytochemical test and quantitatively as TPC (Total Phenolic Content) and TFC (Total Flavonoid Content). The results had shown that the juice and brown sugarcane have higher chromium contents than white sugar, coconut sugar or palm sugar. The juice and brown sugarcane also contain mineral of K and Ca, which is also important for DM patients. More over the phytochemical test also disclosed that both juice and brown sugarcane had flavonoid and polyphenol, whereas white sugar did not. The Total Phenolic Content (TPC) and Total Flavonoid Content of brown sugarcane were 0,503 %and 0.542 % respectively. Thus juice and brown sugarcane have potency as anti DM sugar.
