Abstract—Acne is a chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous follicles which is characterized by excess oil production caused by the bacterium Propionibacterium acnes. The content of flavonoids in basil leaves and the content of curcumin in turmeric rhizome can be used as an anti-acne treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-acne activity of a single extract of basil leaves and a single extract of turmeric rhizome, to determine the ability of the combination two extracts to inhibit acne-causing bacteria and to formulate combination of basil leaf extract and turmeric rhizome into a serum preparation to determine antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The research method used was experimental by testing the antibacterial activity of Propionibacterium acnes in vitro. Antibacterial activity test results in serum showed a negative control, namely serum base did not have an inhibition zone, positive control clindamycin phosphate showed an inhibition zone of 13.20 mm, with a ratio between extracts of turmeric rhizome and basil leaves 1:4, the diameter of the inhibition zone was obtained at a concentration of 30 % of 5.7 mm, 40% concentration of 7.38 mm and 50% concentration of 8.11 mm. Jerawat merupakan suatu penyakit peradangan kronik dari bagian polisebasea yang ditandai dengan munculnya komedo, papula, pustula, nodul, dan kista. Bidara memiliki kandungan fenolat dan flavonoid yang bermanfaat sebagai anti inflamasi, antioksidan, antimikroba, dan mencegah timbulnya tumor. Kandungan kimia lain Bidara yang berperan pada pengobatan yakni alkaloid, fenol, flavonoid, dan terpenoid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun Bidara (Ziziphus-Spina Christi L.) terhadap sifat fisik krim dan aktivitas antibakteri krim daun Bidara terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium Acnes ATCC 6919 dibuat dalam tipe M/A (Minyak dalam Air) menggunakan vanishing cream dengan 3 macam konsentrasi yaitu 10%, 12,5%, dan 15%. Sifat fisik (organoleptis, daya sebar, daya lekat, dan daya proteksi) dan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Propionibacterium acnes yang diukur menggunakan metode difusi sumuran. Hasil uji sifat fisik dan aktivitas antibakteri dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil uji sifat fisik menunjukkan bahwa krim ekstrak etanol daun Bidara mempunyai aroma daun Bidara, warna kehijauan, bentuk semipadat, dan tekstur homogen. Krim ekstrak etanol daun Bidara konsentrasi 15 % menunjukkan daya sebar dan daya lekat paling besar yakni 6,9 cm dan 6 detik. Kemampuan proteksi krim ekstrak etanol bidara pada keseluruhan konsentrasi ditunjukkan sampai dengan menit ke-5. Selain itu, krim ekstrak etanol daun Bidara memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang paling baik terhadap Propionibacterium acnes pada konsentrasi 15 % yang ditunjukkan dengan terbentuknya diameter zona hambat yang paling besar yakni 7,73 mm.

Sistem pakar secara umum adalah sistem yang mengadopsi kemampuan seorang pakar atau ahli untuk dimasukkan ke dalam komputer sehingga mampu menyelesaikan masalah seperti yang dilakukan oleh pakar. Sistem pakar saat ini banyak digunakan pada beberapa bidang salah satunya bidang kesehatan. Jerawat merupakan penyakit radang yang dapat terjadi pada bagian wajah, leher, dada dan punggung. Pengetahuan mengenai jenis jerawat pada masyarakat masih kurang sehingga dalam pengobatannya dilakukan dengan penangan yang tidak sesuai. Diperlukan pengetahuan pakar yang dapat membantu dalam melakukan diagnosis jenis penyakit jerawat. Web merupakan sebuah sistem yang disajikan dalam bentuk teks, gambar dan suara yang tersimpan dalam sebuah server web. Sistem pakar berbasis web dapat menjadi sebuah alternatif diagnosis awal penyakit jerawat. Pada penelitian ini metode pengembangan sistem pakar berbasis web menggunakan exrime programming. Berdasarkan hasil dari pengujian kuesioner terhadap sistem pakar diagnosis web jerawat berbasis web yang dilakukan sebanyak 61% setuju bahwa sistem pakar ini dapat membantu dalam melakukan diagnosis jerawat. The Application of a Web-Based Expert Acne Diagnosis System (Case Study: Navagreen Citra Raya) The expert system is a system that adopts the ability of an expert or expert to be entered into a computer so that it is able to solve problems as is done by experts. The expert system is currently widely used in several fields one of which is the health sector. Acne is an inflammatory disease that can occur on the face, neck, chest, and back. Knowledge about the types of acne in the community is still lacking so that the treatment is done with inappropriate handling. Expert knowledge is needed that can help in diagnosing the type of acne. The web is a system that is presented in the form of text, images, and sounds stored in a web server. A web-based expert system can be an alternative for early diagnosis of acne. In this research, the method of developing a web-based acne expert system uses extreme programming. Based on the results of the questionnaire testing of the expert system of web-based acne diagnosis conducted as many as 61% agree that this expert system can help in making a diagnosis of acne.

Acne vulgaris is a chronic, multifactorial disease that includes inflammation and occurs mostly in teenagers. The emergence of content on social media regarding reviews related to antiacne products can lead to errors in choosing anti acne products. This study was aimed to know the selection of anti acne products on social media that were chosen by teenagers in several cities/districts in Indonesia. This study was a cross sectional study with an instrument in the form of an online questionnaire trough google form. The sampling technique was carried out by accidental sampling. The survey was followed by 259 people aged 12-20 years. The result showed that 91.9% of respondents had encountered anti acne content on social media, 33.6% of respondents were quite affected by social media content in the selection of anti acne products. Whilst, 43.6% of respondents wanted to buy anti acne products after viewing social media content, and 60.6% of respondents were willing to buy anti acne products after seeing a good product review. Most teenagers have encountered anti acne product content and have a desire to buy products after seeing the content of anti acne products on social media. Health promotion and education related to anti acne should be raised specially to teenagers so they can choose and use anti acne appropriately. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acne can affect personal appearance and impair quality of life. A cross sectional study, over a period of 12 months was conducted among medical students at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to evaluate the disability, self management and help-seeking behaviour of medical students for acne. A total of 361 students were selected using stratified cluster random sampling. Acne was graded using the Comprehensive Acne Severity Score (CASS) while acne disability was assessed using the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI). Acne self management and helpseeking behaviour was assessed using the acne management questionnaire. Mean CADI score was 3.35 + 2.39, with mostly mild (83.8%, n=206) and moderate (14.6%, n=36) levels of impairment. Female students and those from the non- Malay ethnic group demonstrated higher disability (3.76 + 2.24, p=0.006 and 3.79 + 2.59, p=0.018, respectively). Although the majority of students (87.4%, n=215) knew that acne can be treated, they preferred to discuss their acne problems with friends (54.1%, n=133) rather than consulting a physician (9.3%, n=23). Most of them also practiced non-evidence based measures for their acne. The results of the present study shows that young adults tend to have mild grades of acne severity and disability. However, efforts are needed to enhance their knowledge on evidence based management of acne and modify their help seeking behavior. This would help reduce complications such as permanent scars and improve quality of life, as acne is a treatable dermatological disorder. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural products are often perceived as safe due to the absence of artificial or chemical materials in its content. However, many are unaware that some of these compounds, albeit natural in existence, can cause harm. Cinnamon and lemon are two commonly used home remedies for acne. Both these naturally existing ingredients are capable of producing dermatitis upon contact with the human skin. The aim of this article is to create awareness among physicians that natural remedies are not free from harm hence, should look out for any possible untoward reactions that these products may cause. Physicians need to explore the possible use of homemade remedies to treat common or minor ailments during history taking as this information may not be given voluntarily. Early identification of the offending agent, adequate management and future avoidance could help prevent further episodes of contact dermatitis and its complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
