Urban interfaces provide a connection between private and public spaces and contain publicness. In this study, urban interfaces on Ulus Bankalar Street, a cultural and historical area in the process of becoming the capital city of Ankara, were identified and the change/transformation of urban interfaces from past to present was examined. In the literature review, the concepts of public space, private space, and urban interface, which is a transition between these two areas, were discussed. In this study, based on on-site observations, the qualities of urban interfaces in terms of physical characteristics of the urban interfaces in the area whose boundaries were determined in Ulus Bankalar Street were revealed and their functionality was questioned. The results showed that urban interfaces have interface qualities in terms of their physical characteristics, however, it is found that they lack publicness when their functional characteristics are examined. The novel genre first appeared in Turkish literature in the nineteenth century, following the Westernization movements. Beginning with the “Tanzimat period (1860-1895)” and the subsequent periods of “National Literature (1911-1923)” and “Republican Literature (1923-1940)”, as identified by literary critics, novel became a medium where social and spatial issues and changes in everyday life were revealed. This study examines briefly the spatial changes that occurred in public and private spheres as a result of modernization endeavors during the late Ottoman and early Republican periods by looking at the literature and architecture of the period, and in reference to the three periods mentioned above. The periods of literary historiography mentioned above, correspond to the period under discussion and draw its chronological framework. It is argued in this context that, the interdisciplinary approach makes it possible to see overlapping and differentiating aspects in narratives and architectural practices regarding the perception and use of public and private spaces and corresponding daily life practices. The themes determined by the examination of novels representing the three periods of Turkish literature history are presented together with quotations from the sampled novels and brief architectural discussions, and the prominent aspects are discussed in both contexts.

The idea that all three dimensions of sustainable development need to be planned holistically with radical approaches to provide effective long-term results forms the backbone of this study. Such an approach to development requires the existence and functioning of a democracy. From a democracy-based perspective, the vitality and maintenance of the public sphere are fundamental principles in the social dimension of sustainable development. The works of the public sphere theorists Arendt, Habermas, Negt, and Kluge were utilized. The existence of hope is necessary for every dimension of sustainable life. Studies on sustainability pedagogy in educational sciences have revealed that pedagogies of hope are effective in assimilating the core values of the concept of sustainability. It can be revealed in the theoretical framework that the phenomenon of 'hope,' which is emphasized to be effective in the context of sustainability pedagogy, is also important and necessary in the maintenance of the public sphere. To identify the relationships between the concepts and frame a theory, literature research in the disciplines of philosophy, political philosophy, and educational sciences was conducted. The correlation between concepts through the phenomenon of hope draws attention to the fact that the public sphere is an effective tool for sustainability pedagogy. Similarly, it can be predicted that the dissemination of pedagogies of hope will be an effective approach to maintaining the vitality of the public sphere. Strategies and plans that consider these impacts will strengthen radical sustainability approaches. Yakup Kadri's novel Ankara is a work that has attracted the attention of the literary public with its subject, thesis, fiction and characters. In this novel, Yakup Kadri deals with the three periods of Ankara, the capital of the newly established state. The first of these is the ordeal times of the National Struggle; the second is the founding days of the Republic; The third is the years 1923-1943, which is also called the early Republican period. Although Ankara is a city utopia, events, facts, places and people are viewed through the eyes of Selma, the protagonist of the novel. It can be said that the author, while describing three different periods of the capital, also tells the three phases of Selma’s life. The life of Selma and the history of the newly established state coincide to a large extent. Indeed, the three men who entered the life of Selma are introduced and told through three different time periods. Selma is married to Ahmet Nazif, Hakkı and Neşet Sabit respectively in three parts of the novel. Each male character is fictionalized to include the dominant features of the period. This article, whose field of study is Yakup Kadri's Ankara, focuses on Selma's private life; it centers on her inner world, her relationships with her spouses, her pleasures and worries. As will be seen more clearly in the future, it is possible to observe the effects, traces and of course the results of everything experienced in Turkey, especially in Ankara, and the change seen in almost every aspect of life between 1919-1943 in the private life of Selma. The 'living' witness of the years of the National Struggle, the proclamation of the Republic and the first twenty years of the new state, the personality of the forty-five-year-old woman, her emotional relationships, human relations, desires and doubts allow us to get to know Selma better as an individual and at the same time. Sanat yapıtının toplumla kurduğu ilişki organik bir şekilde ortaya çıkmış ancak tarihsel süreç içerisinde dönem dönem ayrışmalara uğramıştır. Sanatçının bir söylem alanı olarak ortaya koyduğu yapıt ile toplumsal yapıların söylem alanı olan eylem, kamusal alanda bir arada varlık kazanabilmektedir. Bu varoluş biçimi yapıtın ya da eylemin anlamında bazı kırılmalar medyana getirirken ikincil söylem alanlarının da meydana gelmesine olanak tanımaktadır. Sanatçı için üretildiği koşulların bir dışavurumu olarak görülebilecek yapıt, izleyicinin gözünde sürekli dönüşen anlam örgüleri oluşturabilmekte ve söylemi diğer temsillerine göre daha etkili bir şekilde ifade edebilmektedir. Bu durum yapıtı toplumsal eylemlerin nesnesi haline getirerek ardıl anlamlar oluşturulmasına neden olmuştur. Space, beyond mere physical definitions, is a structure constantly shaped by everyday life practices and capable of self-reconstruction. In this study, the potential of everyday life practices to create a a dynamic, dynamic, and flexible space, besides its previously defined and revealed physical boundaries, will be measured through tea gardens. With their cultural and symbolic value in Turkish society from past to present; it is believed that tea gardens have formed an unique a social space special to our culture by providing an integrative and egalitarian social environment where individuals engage in various activities within their daily life flow. In this context, the spatial examination of tea gardens, which have become social spaces where people from all layers of society can come together, and the reevaluation of their place within everyday life have become significant topics. Within this framework, the study will focus on Moda Family Tea Garden, one of the oldest and well-known tea gardens in İstanbul. Within the scope of the study, the analysis has aimed to decipher spatial practices in everyday life through deductions drawn from Lefebvre, through the criteria of "leveller, everyday life, production of space, social relationships, and coexistence." The study mainly approaches the space within the framework of a theoretical discussion, and it is reached a conclusion based on the spatial data evaluates in the specific case Moda Family Tea Garden. Through empirical findings obtained from field study conducted using observation technique, the focus is on experiencing the urban space that supports the formation of everyday life and determining of the pratices of space. Toplumsal yaşamın koşulları, bireylerin gündelik yaşam dinamikleri üzerinde kendisini var etmektedir. Bireyin toplum yaşamının dışında kendi mevcudiyetini gösteren mahremiyet kavramı da içinde bulunduğu koşullara göre değişim göstermektedir. Teknolojik gelişmeler ve egemen kapitalist anlayış ile birlikte bireyin hedef alındığı, bireyciliğin desteklendiği, tüketimin özendirildiği, rekabetin belirleyici olduğu ve metalaşmanın tüm unsurlara uygulanabildiği bir süreçte, mahremiyet de bu yapıda bir dönüşüm yaşamıştır. Dijitalleşme eğilimlerinin günden güne ivme kazandığı dünyada, sosyal medya platformları günlük yaşamın vazgeçilmez unsurları haline gelmiş bir görüntü vermektedir. Bu anlamda sosyal medya, yaşama dair tüm olay ve olguları biçimlendiren, yeniden üreten, ters yüz eden bir gerçeklik olarak kendini var etmektedir. Sosyal medyanın tüketim kültürünü besleyen ve yeniden üreten yapısı bu özelliğini güçlendiren bir görünüm vermektedir. Buradan hareketle mahremiyet kavramının sosyal medya ve tüketim ile olan ilişkisi, araştırılması ve üzerine düşünülmesi gereken bir alan olarak önem arz etmektedir. Bu çerçevede bu çalışma, mahremiyet olgusunun süreç içerisinde geçirdiği dönüşümleri, tüketim kültürünün bir unsuru sayılabilecek sosyal medya bağlamında açıklamaya odaklanmaktadır.

Türkiye’den 1960’lı yılların sonundan itibaren başlayan ve diğer Avrupa ve Ortadoğu ülkelerine devam eden iş gücü göçü 60 yıllık bir birikimi içermektedir. Göç sürecinin hali hazırda yer alan ve değişen dinamikleri kendisini yeniden üretebilen anlamlarıyla karşımızda durmaktadır. Türkiye’den başlayan süreç her ne kadar ekonomik temelli olsa da sonraki süreçte dinî, siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel dinamikleri de etkilemiştir. Mevcut dinamiklerin en önemlileri arasına Türkiye’nin toplumsal yapısında yer alan bazı grupları ve odak tartışmaları da içerisinde dâhil etmiştir. Alevîlik veya Alevî toplumu da bu tartışmalardan etkilenmiş ve tartışmaları etkileyecek hamlelerde bulunmuştur. Birçok değiştirici ve dönüştürücü etkiyi özellikle dinî ve siyasi zeminde tarihi arka planıyla birlikte içeren süreçler de hali hazırdaki durumu şekillendiren sonuçları bünyesinde barındırmaktadır. Avrupa kamusal alanında Müslüman imgesinin son 20 yılda değişen boyutları hem Türk diasporasının hem de diğer Müslüman toplulukların yaşamında önemli etkileri bulunan bir başlangıcı oluşturmaktadır. Avrupa kamusal alanında Almanya üzerine odaklanan çalışma Almanya’da Alevî toplumunun kamusal alandaki görünümü, diğer göçmen gruplarından farklılaşan yönleri, geçmişten bugüne gerçekleşen olayları ve olguları gündeme getirmeyi ve nitel bir analiz şeması üzerinden betimleyerek ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma 2021 yılı içerisinde Almanya’da bulunan farklı Alevî sivil toplum kuruluşlarından temsilciler ile nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden mülakat tekniği kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Mülakat tekniği ile yapılan görüşmeler araştırmanın sınırlılıkları ve salgın koşulları çerçevesinde telefon veya görüntülü bağlantılar üzerinden yapılmıştır. Görüşmeler ortalama 40 dakika civarında sürmüş ve Alevî toplumuna ait sivil toplum kuruluşlarının yöneticileriyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Alevi toplumunun Almanya kamusal alanında oluşturmuş olduğu sivil toplum yapısının Türk diasporasının diğer kuruluşlarından daha görünür ve ön planda olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte Alevi sivil toplum kuruluşlarının Türkiye’ye dair taleplerinin kamusal alanda oluşan STK’lar üzerinden kendisini gösterdiği ve Almanya özelinde Avrupa’da da kendi inanç ve ritüellerini yaşamaya devam ettikleri görülmüştür.

The fractures in gender preferences and the increase in the number of gender preference categories in world societies have deeply affected the basic approaches of public space designers and digital system designers. By now, single-sex has become the default design or coding setting in most robotic algorithms and smart city designs and systems. When we look at it from the perspective of urban sociology, which is the collective reflection of individual human psychology in urban areas, we see traces of it in both the digital infrastructure, macrostructures, and megastructure designs of smart cities. Especially in the film industry after 2000, the perception of gender either refers to free gender values or idealizes a unisex structure. Such things in the cities of the future offer designers an extremely practical solution in system designs and public space designs. We need to demonstrate that such designs are extremely constructive developments in preventing social and sexual violence. In our study, we will focus on the contribution of artificial algorithms, system designs, and space designs to social consensus in the digital infrastructure of smart cities of the future. The parameters of this contribution will be discussed from the perspective of urban sociology in terms of the sustainability of future cities.

The concept of public sphere is of great importance for democracy in terms of enabling citizens to participate in political discussions and negotiations. The public sphere provides a strong source of legitimacy as long as it is an environment with equal and free participation, where political debates are held independently of the control of the state and power. An important aspect of the transition to democracy in Turkish political life is the transformation in the public sphere. The state which institutionalized as "transcendental" in the single-party period and the existence of a very weak civil society caused the boundaries of the public sphere to narrow considerably. In this period, the public sphere emerged as a socialization instrument unique to the state elite. In the first years of the transition to multi-party life, it can be mentioned that citizens were active in the public sphere and showed great interest in political discussions. Examining the elements and causes of this change is very important in terms of Turkish political life and our democracy history. In this study, it is examined how the public sphere underwent a transformation in the first years of the transition to multi-party life, which is an important turning point in Turkey's democracy experience. This article is based on the results of a comprehensive research on the religiosity experiences of students in the public sphere of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Türkiye. The research examines the multifaceted behavioral practices, categories and tactics of religious students in the context of an academic institution that has historically been shaped by a secular tradition. Through in-depth interviews with religious students at METU, this study examines how these students participate in public life on campus, where they find their place in the public space, and the areas they deliberately avoid. The study seeks to understand how these individuals maintain their religious identity, maintain their religious feelings and sense of belonging, and ultimately overcome the challenges posed by a predominantly secular environment. Phenomenological approach and purposive sampling technique from qualitative research approaches were used in the research. The data were obtained from in-depth interviews with 18 students studying at METU through a semistructured interview form. Based on the data obtained, the behavioral practices and tactics of religious students were categorized in three different areas: center, periphery and semiperiphery. It has been observed that each of these areas has different cultural characteristics, relations among themselves and various forms of being. The findings highlight that the METU public sphere resists the political and cultural inclusion of religious actors and practices, insisting on preserving its secular and culturally exclusionary character. As an institution with a secular tradition, METU has developed a secular public space where religious students, who are considered as the "other", are politically and culturally marginalized. The data show that the dominant culture and lifestyles in these public spaces are significantly far from religiosity and sometimes lead to overreaction, marginalization and exclusion, which can be characterized as secular. By presenting a detailed examination of the typologies and tactics adopted by religious individuals settled in these regions, the article further strengthens our understanding of their experience within the secular public sphere of METU. Students who choose to be in the center of METU's public space present a typology that adapts to current practices under the influence of secular actors and practices there. On the other hand, students who prefer to be in the environment try to stay away from METU's secular actors and practices as much as possible and resist adapting through very religious practices. Students who chose to be in the middle of these two areas developed a contextual and hybrid self. These students sometimes show harmony and sometimes resistance, and present a lifestyle that is compatible with both secular actors and practices and religious actors and practices. In this way, actors and practices that vary according to fields interact and are affected by each other from time to time. Therefore, the typology and practices developed may vary depending on the context. However, an emerging fact is that the representation of Islamic lifestyles at the center of these public spaces has turned out to be rather weak compared to secular orientations. It has been concluded that the areas where Islam is practiced freely and without tension are the environmental areas where places such as mosques are located. As a result, it has been revealed that rather different religious typologies and practices have been developed in secular public spaces instead of a uniform religiosity and practices. As in almost every part of the world, the issue of "Public Space" and "Private Space" is constantly discussed in our country. This situation is also frequently discussed in the media. The intensive use of urban outdoor spaces in cities is related to high levels of thermal comfort. Especially in cold climates, the design of public spaces is important for the residents of the cities to spend more time in these areas. The duration of outdoor use increases in areas that receive the winter sun, are sheltered from cold winds and are attractive with their spatial organization. In this direction, the aim of this study is to test the compatibility of 4 different public spaces on the busiest street of Erzurum with cold climate conditions through micro-climate simulations. In this process, the current conditions of the areas were analyzed in terms of solar access, wind control, snow management and vegetation distribution. ENVI-met software was used to produce and evaluate the maps. With the integrated use of simulation results and theoretical knowledge, it was determined that outdoor comfort can be increased by 0.5°C to 1oC in winter. The purpose of this study is to reveal that micro public spheres are developing again in the city and its culture, which has been transformed within the framework of consumption practices in the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The consumption culture, which emerged with the effect of the Industrial Revolution and the social transformations that followed, erodes the foundations of the public sphere and publicity that exist in the city. As a result, the city turns into a large consumption space with shopping malls, chain cafes and restaurants. Starting from this transformation, the process of transforming the city into a consumption space, the public sphere and the connection with the city are explained in the study. Afterwards, in the 100th anniversary of the Republic, the subject of the city and public sphere is discussed within the framework of Türkiye. Then, information is given about the workshop/book cafes, which have recently emerged as places where informative and instructive seminars take place in today's cities, where desired books can be bought and read from their shelves, and where an intellectual sharing takes place in the public sense through various artistic practices. While the research focuses on the Instagram posts of Hane Kafe and Serüven Kitap Kafe, which are selected as samples, the research examines these posts in the context of consumption culture, public sphere and publicity themes with the method of content analysis. As a result of the examination, the sharing of various activities such as the authoring workshop, the literary event and the meeting of the writer and the reader of the Hane Kafe and Serüven Kitap Kafe the reveal that they operate within the framework of the literary public. For this reason, the activities, urban publicity and cultural relations of the city are important in the public space and publicity activities of the Hane Kafe and the Serüven Kitap Kafe. The public value of public spaces within existing market paradigms is being ignored. The existence of the public sphere is a fundamental requirement for preserving a democratic environment in everyday life. The question of which functional spaces can revitalize the values of publicness is essential. This article takes a critical look at the erosion of democracy and publicness. It contributes to urbanism by looking at it from a social science perspective. The review article method associates different interdisciplinary concepts used in various disciplines, It is a theoretical article that tries to go beyond the typical evaluation of spaces to examine the qualities that revitalize publicness using conceptual relations to draw attention to the fact that the functions of different architectural structures can also effectively revitalize publicness. Based on this, it argues that the variety of functions considered in the context of social facilities in the urbanism literature can be grouped according to different definitions. The article questions how social facilities associated with publicness can function as social infrastructure in the context of public space. This perspective requires one to look at spaces in urban planning using qualitative definitions, which, in turn, requires one to examine the concept of social infrastructure using definitions from social disciplines due to the fact that a human-centered perspective is necessary in order to identify spaces with the potential to revitalize publicness. This theoretical approach looks at planning from the perspective of communicative rationality. In addition, it is also essential to understand the types of social infrastructure elements to consider as public space tools in terms of the qualities of living publicness that bring the public sphere into existence. This makes the qualities one wants to define as social infrastructure essential. Tools that function as public spaces should offer qualities that revitalize publicness and thus diversify the public sphere. This article analyzes the qualitative relations between the concepts of publicness and social infrastructure to reveal the kind of social infrastructure needed to provide the qualities that revitalize publicness. One can consider social facilities as social infrastructure tools in the context of their role in the development of social reinforcement that strengthens the public sphere. With this perspective, the article proposes that the limits of the concept of public space in instrumental planning can be transcended and that new and contrarian spatial tools can also be considered in this context. In 1908, with the proclamation of the Constitutional Monarchy, many changes and transformations took place in the Ottoman Empire. This transformation paved the way for unprecedented developments that spread to women. The perspective of the Committee of Union and Progress which saw women as a tool of modernization and Westernization, facilitated the existence of women in social life compared to the past. In this context, the importance of the city of Istanbul for the presence of women in the public sphere has been great. From the Second Constitutional Era to the proclamation of the Republic, women established associations and published magazines in Istanbul. In the newly opened schools in Istanbul, new opportunities arose for girls to be able to study and have a profession. In addition, within the borders of Istanbul, women joined the workforce and became officials. The capital of the Empire, Istanbul has almost become the capital of women's visibility in the public sphere. The study aims to explain the place of Istanbul in women's history from the last period of the Ottoman Empire to the first years of the Republic. In this context, the associations founded by women in Istanbul between 1908- 1923, the magazines they published, the educational activities carried out on behalf of women and the participation of women in the workforce will be examined in the light of archive documents. Privatization of urban public spaces leads to two conflicting positions regarding the private or public rights over a place. This article discusses the problems of urban areas with regard to the privatization of public spaces and the consequent reaction of the citizens to claim their right to the city in various forms of social mobilization. This contestation between citizen and business claims over urban places is analyzed through a historical perspective that traces the development of business role in public policy making, the ways in which business influences policy making process, and their outcomes. We, then, identify three barriers that we regard the strongest in overcoming these problems: (1) lack of inclusive mechanisms, (2) misunderstanding of the right to the city, and (3) privatization of public spaces with neoliberal influences. Lastly, we discuss the role of different stakeholders, such as academics, policy makers, and citizens. Public sphere is defined as an area that allows citizens to discuss collectively political, economic, societal issues. The easy possibility of communicating effectively into the public sphere that allows a flow of information, also allows individuals to reorient themselves from passive readers and listeners to potential speakers and participants in a conversation. Today, in addition to physical environments, digital and virtual environments also provide platforms for individuals to discuss political and cultural issues. Rapid developments in information and communication technologies and software-supported platforms have allowed the public sphere to expand into digital and virtual environments as well as physical environments, while also increasing access to the public sphere. While Web 2.0- based digital and social media platforms increase access by decentralizing the public sphere, they are also under the influence of large technology companies and public-sourced restrictions. In the focus of these constraints, the Web3.0 vision, which enables the decentralized management of digital communication platforms, opens up an alternative public sphere with permissionless access and freedom of expression. In this research on metaverse platforms developed on Web3.0 technology that enables decentralized interaction, the potential for democratic participation and free idea sharing provided by these platforms is examined. This article presents a discussion on the constructive destruction triggered on public sphere by blockchain-based open metaverse platforms that bring back spatiality in a virtual form and enable uncensored participation and sharing of ideas. The changes seen with the acceleration of the westernization movement in the 19th century Ottoman field are reflected in various aspects of daily life. Literary texts are the sources where the effects of these changes are seen directly. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who is one of the important representatives of the novel in the Tanzimat era, which is the genre in which social life is reflected in the most detail among literary genres, frequently deals with such changes as a literary material in his novels. Ahmet Mithat creates a synthesis as a result of these comparisons by comparing the socio-cultural structure of the West and Ottoman society in his novels. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who puts his artistic concerns aside and sees the novel as a tool to spread his ideas, adopts such an approach in his novel Vah; He questions the existence of women in the public sphere by addressing the changing perception of public space in the novel.
