This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of maternal awareness in the field of lay resuscitation of newborns and infants and is concveived as a theoretical-practical work. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter describes the neonatal and infant period. The next chapters present the recommended practices in neonatal and infant resuscitation according to the current 2021 Guidelines, and define the chain of survival, emergency pre-hospital care, basic and advanced life support. The fifth chapter deals with education in basic life support. The final chapters discuss sudden life-threatening episodes - apparent life-threatening event (ALTE), brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE), sudden unexpected postnatal collapse (SUPC), and last but not least, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), with emphasis on its risk factors and preventive measures. For the practical part of my bachelor's thesis, a quantitative questionnaire survey was used, which took place between 12/2022 and 2/2023 at the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine and General University Hospital in Prague. - Abstract
Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease with a variable clinical presentation and prognosis. The authors present a case report of 11month old boy with LCH. The patient had skin symptoms from his birth that were considered to be a neonatal toxoalergic rash, and then subsequently, to be a seborhoic dermatitis, atopic eczema and perianal intertrigo. He suffered from recurrent respiratory tract infections and since the age of six months, he had secretion from his both ears, treated as an external otitis. Shortly before the correct diagnosis of LCH was assigned, the patient developed anemia, trombocytopenia and neutropenia. The multi-system LCH also affected other risk organs - liver and spleen. The therapy began with vinblastine and prednisolone according to the international protocols for treatment of LCH. The disease did not responed to standard induction therapy, so an experimental treatment with BRAF inhibitor was commenced with a prompt response and regression of symptoms. The article focuses on the description of symptoms of LCH with an aim to raise awareness of the disease, to prevent delayed diagnosis, which can happen due to confusion of symptoms of other more common diseases. This bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of infant and toddler nutrition. These stages of child development correspond to the period from birth to age three, and the establishment of healthy nutrition and eating habits is fundamental, because it may have a lifelong impact. The practical part of this thesis aimed to examine the compliance of parents with guidelines on breast-feeding and the introduction of complementary feeding, to determine toddlers' actual intake of calories and macronutrients, and to assess the frequency of consummation and amounts of sweet foods and drinks. Based on this data, it was tested whether the intake of calories, macronutrients and sugar had an influence on the body mass index (BMI) or weight-for-length ratio. The information was collected using a questionnaire filled by parents of 22 children hospitalized in the Department of Paediatrics and Inherited Metabolic Disorders of the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the General University Hospital in Prague. The results showed that the majority of parents followed the guidelines in the length of exclusive breast-feeding and a period of introduction of complementary feeding. The dietary records revealed that almost all toddlers involved in this study had an excessive intake of proteins and sugars....

The bachelor thesis deals with an issue of infantile colic in a surgery of a general practitioner for children and adolescents. This issue is usually discussed between mothers and nurses, who recommend a regime remedy and combine classical easement of colic with pharmacological means. Preceding the qualitative research, 4 main aims were set, which surveyed work of nurses in a surgery of general practitioners for children and adolescents, areas of education, nurses´ orientation and parents´ knowledge of this issue. Three research questions connected with the aims were set. The first one deals with nurses´ roles in the care about an infant with infantile colic. The second one deals with parents´ education. The third one surveyed knowledge and experience of nurses in the care about an infant with infantile colic. This research was implemented through half-structured interviews in 7 surgeries of general practitioners for children and adolescents in the Region of South Bohemia. The quantitative part of the research was implemented through a questionnaire method. The questionnaires verified the hypothesis that there are differences in parents´ awareness of an issue of infantile colic in relation to an occurrence of this illness at their children. It was discovered that the specifics of nurses´ care about an infant with infantile colic in a surgery of a general practitioner for children and adolescents inhere in mother´s education. Nurses inform about breastfeeding, right bottle feeding, positioning, burping and massages for infants. They usually recommend breastfeeding mothers a change of food in case of infantile colic. Nurses are well aware with this issue and they have enough information. Furthermore, it was revealed that parents of children with infantile colic have more information about the issue than parents whose children do not suffer from infantile colic. This thesis should be used for learning about the issue of infantile colic as well as for an outlook of possible methods for easing the problems related to it.

The bachelor thesis deals with the role of the father in the care of a newborn and a suckling, his attitude and contribution to care. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a research section. In accordance with the topic, the theoretical part deals with prenatal preparation by both parents, newborns, sucklings, and the care for newborns and sucklings in the areas of nutrition, emptying, sleep, hygiene and leisure time. In the second section, we deal with parental and paternal roles in the family in more detail. There were two goals set. The first goal was to map the participation of fathers in the care of newborns and sucklings and the second goal was to map out the fathers' attitudes towards care of the newborns and sucklings. On the basis of these goals, two research questions were asked. The first research question deals with the attitude of the fathers towards newborn and suckling care. The second research question is finding out how fathers are involved in the care of newborns and sucklings. The research was carried out in two phases, using a quantitative and qualitative method. Quantitative research was conducted in the form of an internet questionnaire, which included a total of 15 compulsory questions and was attended by a total of 449 respondents. According to the quantitative research, fathers caring for their children are mainly involved in bathing (56%), changing diapers (52%) and playing (73%) with newborns or sucklings. Qualitative research was conducted in the form of semi-structured personal interviews with six fathers aged 25 to 41. The interview contained a total of 17 questions, which were supplemented by additional questions as needed, with three identification questions in the beginning. All participants in the interviews were involved in caring for their children. The hypothesis determined at the assignment was: There are differences in fathers care of newborns and sucklings in relation to the presence of fathers at childbirth. The research showed that the presence of the father at childbirth has no significant effect on his subsequent care of newborns and sucklings. Hence, the hypothesis was rejected.

This bachelor thesis is dedicated to a sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). A theoretical part of the thesis describes the history and the latest findings about SIDS, its causes and risk factors. It also summarizes midwifery education within the prevention of SIDS and cardiopulmonary resuscitation of infants. A research part of the bachelor thesis deals with the awareness of SIDS and resuscitation of newborns and infants among women. Two research goals were set in advance. The first aim of the bachelor thesis was to determine a level of SIDS knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of children up to 1 year of age. The second objective was to determine a level of knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of children up to the age of 1 on basic resuscitation of newborns and infants. At the same time, two hypotheses were established. Hypothesis 1: There are differences in SIDS awareness among primiparas and secundiparas women. Hypothesis 2: There are differences in awareness of newborn and infant resuscitation between primiparas and secondiparas. The research was conducted through a social network, using a survey of 170 pregnant women and mothers of children under the age of 1 year. In order to achieve the set goals and verify the hypotheses, a quantitative method was chosen. Anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted in order to collect data. Results of the research are graphically processed and supplemented with a verbal commentary. Verification of hypotheses was performed using a chi-squared statistical test. By analyzing the data obtained, the hypotheses were confirmed by the statistical chi-squared test. Null hypotheses were tested against alternative hypotheses at 5% significance. The chi-squared value of the test was compared with the signifikance level. For hypothesis 1, the chi-squared test was determined 0.6%, and for hypothesis 2 the result was 1%. The results show that primiparas are more informed about SIDS and problems of newborn/infant resuscitation than secondiparas. Sufficient awareness of SIDS was found within 34% of the primiparas and 30% of the secondiparas. Sufficient awareness of newborn/infant resuscitation was demonstrated by 23% of the primiparas and 12% of the secondiparas. This bachelor thesis may serve as an information material for students of health care field and midwifery, or as a presentation at a specialized seminar.

The main purpose of the research was to explore the role of the community nurse in the care of newborns, infants and their mother and how this kind of care could be included in the current system of preventive care for newborns and infants in the Czech Republic. The research was developed by qualitative and quantitative design. In the first stage of the research, interviews with nurses from the PLDD outpatient department and mothers of infants in the South Bohemian and Pilsen Regions were conducted. Non-standardized questionnaires for nurses and mothers were created from the obtained data. The statistical processing was carried out with MS Excel, where absolute and relative frequencies were calculated and the relationships among the variables at the significance level ? = 0.05 were tested by the use of the chi-squared test and the Pearson correlation coefficient was used. For the needs of the qualitative survey, a research group of six mothers of infants and seven nurses from the PLDD outpatient departments in the South Bohemian and Pilsen Regions was chosen by deliberate selection. For the quantitative survey, a research group of 254 mothers of babies aged 12-24 months was chosen by deliberate selection. The research group of nurses was chosen by deliberate selection and consisted of 196 nurses working in PLDD outpatient departments for more than one year. Multiparas have provably more information at leaving the maternity hospital about breastfeeding techniques, breast milk pumping, nappy changing, hygienic care and bathing, dressing, sleeping, umbilical cord care, and safe handling of the baby. Information about the prevention of sudden infant deaths or the storage of breast milk is at the same level for primiparas as for multiparas. It was found out that there is a statistically significant relationship between the level of awareness and the occurrence of problems in the first year of the child's life. The personal experience of nurses with the visiting service has an influence on whether they attach importance to this service. The current model of preventive care of newborns and babies needs to be critically analysed and appropriately complemented by interventions of the visiting service.

This thesis deals with the implementation of complementary food into infant's nutrition and its effect on baby's later health. In the theoretical part the relationship between nutrition in the early age and later morbidity and mortality is explored. Complementary food is discussed as a one of the aspects, which epigenetically influences future metabolism by so called nutritional programming. Appropriate procedure of introducing normal family diet is described as well as its physiological reasoning. Besides optimal timing, the ideal way of introducing each food is explored. Psychological aspects of implementing complementary food are looked into as well. Next, the situation in the Czech Republic concerning baby food is examined. In the practical part, the thesis deals with the awareness of Czech women about the introduction of complementary food, their awareness of first complementary food, ideal foods for infants and implementing normal family food to baby's nutrition in infant stage. The questionnaire was answered by 164 women. It was found that awareness is inadequate, most women manage to introduce first complementary food, but know little about further nutritional procedure. This phenomenon was more distinct in pregnant women than in mothers. But even among mothers, greater awareness of...

The aim of bachelory called "The intake of proteins at infant" was to chart an intake of proteins at infant's diet. There are two research questions: What is the difference between breast-feeded infants and infant's feeded by formulas and infants feeded by baby foods focused on the intake of proteins? What is the intake of proteins at infants feeded by baby foods according to nutrition's recommendecions. Bachelory thesis is separeted to theoretical part, which is focused to defined basic concepts like proteins and infants. Further it deals with infant's nutrition, provided by breast-feeding or infant's nutrition formula and baby foods. Practical part was done by applying qualitativ research, there is calculation of 3 days of infant's diet. The evaluation of data was done in programm Nutriservis Proffesional and I used labels from the producers of infant's formulas as well. There are 12 infants involved in the research separeted in 3 groups based on infant's age. The groups are defined as: 0-4 months, 4-8 months, 8-12 months. In each groups there are 4 infants. The results are done using the formo of calculated tabs. In all the groups there is reference value of proteins set up to 10 g a day. (Referenční hodnoty pro příjem živin, 2011). The conclusion says that breast-feeded children at the groups 0-4 months and 4-8 months are closer to this reference value than children feeded by infant's nutrition formula. At the group 8-12 months it is very individuall. There are 2 infants close to the reference value, one of them has the income significantely lower and the second one higher for a change. Out of those results it is possible to say, that for optimal income of proteins it is more convinient breastst-feeding than infant's nutrition formulas.

This bachelor's thesis deals with salt intake for infants. This is a current topic as there are lots of discussions about excessive salt intake nowadays. Taste for salt is developed in childhood and it influences its subsequent perception. Long-term excessive salt intake in food can cause a risk of hypertension. According to professor Janda, recommended daily amount of salt for an infant should not be more than 1 g. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to find out the intake of salt for infants. There were two research questions formulated: "What is the intake of salt in food for infants?" and "What is the difference between salt intake for infants being only breast-fed, infants being fed by complementary milk food and those being fed by non-milk complementary food. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical one describes the issue of salt intake, the practical one contains qualitative research. The focus group was comprised of 12 infants who were divided into 3 groups of 4. Infants up to 4 months old were in the first group, infants between 4-8 months old were in the second group and infants between 8-12 months were in the third group. Every fourth infant was chosen from the database of supervisor's patients. Three-days diet records were received from the mothers of the infants. Based on these records the amount of salt was further calculated in the Nutriservis program. The results of the survey are presented in charts and in word evaluation. The research shows that, from the point of view of salt intake, mother's milk is ideal infant food. The recommended amount of salt was not exceeded for neither of the chosen infants. The infants being fed only with mother's milk had the lowest salt intake, whereas the infants being fed with non-milk complementary food had the highest salt intake. This bachelor's thesis can serve as a source of information for students of nutritional therapy as well as for mothers of infants.
