Perovskite oxide LaFeO3(LFO) emerges as a potential candidate for formaldehyde (HCHO) detection due to its exceptional electrical conductivity and abundant active metal sites. However, the sensitivity of the LFO sensor needs to be further enhanced. Herein, a series of LaxIn1-xFeO3 (x = 1.0, 0.9, 0.8, and 0.7) nanofibers (LxIn1-xFO NFs) with different ratios of La/In were obtained via the electrospinning method followed by a calcination process. Among all these LxIn1-xFO NFs sensors, the sensor based on the L0.8In0.2FO NFs possessed the maximum response value of 18.8 to 100 ppm HCHO at the operating temperature of 180 °C, which was 4.47 times higher than that based on pristine LFO NFs (4.2). Furthermore, the L0.8In0.2FO NFs sensor also exhibited a rapid response/recovery time (2 s/22 s), exceptional repeatability, and long-term stability. This excellent gas sensing performance of the L0.8In0.2FO NFs can be attributed to the large number of oxygen vacancies induced by the replacement of the A-site La3+ by In3+, the large specific surface area, and the porous structure. This research presents an approach to enhance the HCHO gas sensing capabilities by adjusting the introduced oxygen vacancies through the doping of A-sites in perovskite oxides. In this work, for the first time, we construct a solid composite polymer electrolyte of poly(vinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene) embedded LaFeO 3 (LFO) particles prepared by solution casting and electrospinning methods and study their performances. The 5 wt% LFO filler embedded CPE made by means of solution casting and electrospinning methods exhibited the highest ionic conductivity of 5.9 × 10-4 and 1.49 × 10-3 S cm−1 at room temperature and electrochemical stability window up to 4.6 and 4.45 V, respectively. Further, as-assembled solid-state lithium-ion batteries using electrospun CPE showed an initial discharge capacity of 166 mAh/g at 0.1C-rate and solution-casted CPE showed excellent cycling stability with 98.6 % capacity retention at 0.3C-rate even at 50th cycle. Such excellent performance originated from the introduction of the LFO particles as filler into the polymer matrix to enhance the ionic conductivity, mechanical strength and lithium metal compatibility of the resulting CPEs. CO2 is the most cost-effective and abundant carbon resource, while the reverse water–gas reaction (rWGS) is one of the most effective methods of CO2 utilization. This work presents a comparative study of rWGS activity for perovskite systems based on AFeO3 (where A = Ce, La, Y). These systems were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) with different ratios of fuel (glycine) and oxidizer (φ), different amounts of NH4NO3, and the addition of alumina or silica as supports. Various techniques, including X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, N2-physisorption, H2 temperature-programmed reduction, temperature-programmed desorption of H2 and CO2, Raman spectroscopy, and in situ FTIR, were used to relate the physicochemical properties with the catalytic performance of the obtained composites. Each specific perovskite-containing system (either bulk or supported) has its own optimal φ and NH4NO3 amount to achieve the highest yield and dispersion of the perovskite phase. Among all synthesized systems, bulk SCS-derived La–Fe–O systems showed the highest resistance to reducing environments and the easiest hydrogen desorption, outperforming La–Fe–O produced by solgel combustion (SGC). CO2 conversion into CO at 600 °C for bulk ferrite systems, depending on the A-cation type and preparation method, follows the order La (SGC) < Y < Ce < La (SCS). The differences in properties between La–Fe–O obtained by the SCS and SGC methods can be attributed to different ratios of oxygen and lanthanum vacancy contributions, hydroxyl coverage, morphology, and free iron oxide presence. In situ FTIR data revealed that CO2 hydrogenation occurs through formates generated under reaction conditions on the bulk system based on La–Fe–O, obtained by the SCS method. γ-Al2O3 improves the dispersion of CeFeO3 and LaFeO3 phases, the specific surface area, and the quantity of adsorbed H2 and CO2. This led to a significant increase in CO2 conversion for supported CeFeO3 but not for the La-based system compared to bulk and SiO2-supported perovskite catalysts. However, adding alumina increased the activity per mass for both Ce- and La-based perovskite systems, reducing the amount of rare-earth components in the catalyst and thereby lowering the cost without substantially compromising stability. LaFeO3 has been prepared using the solid-state reaction method with High Energy Milling (HEM). The preparation of LaFeO3 was carried out using stoichiometric calculations. Based on the XRD measurement results, single-phase LaFeO3 with an orthorhombic crystal structure was obtained. From the SEM results, the morphology of LaFeO3 is uniform, and the EDS results show the weight percentage of La, Fe, and O elements are 49.74, 21.08, and 29.18 wt%, respectively. VSM LaFeO3 results show magnetic saturation, remanence, and coercivity are 0.24 emu/g, 0.02 emu/g, and 853.38 Oe, respectively, and the absorption of LaFeO3 is -7.40 dB at a frequency of 6.02 GHz with a LaFeO3 sample thickness of 1.5mm.

Abstract This work is an attempt to develop flexible radiation shielding based on a blend of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) and LaFeO3 nanoparticles (NPs). LaFeO3 and LaFeO3/PMMA/PVAc were made using simple chemical techniques. A high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that well-crystallized LaFeO3 NPs with particles 79 nm in size and an orthorhombic shape were obtained. In addition, XRD confirmed the existence of PMMA, PVAc, and LaFeO3 in the nanocomposite films. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) confirmed that the LaFeO3 NPs and the reactive functional groups in the blend interacted with each other. Field emission-scan electron microscope (FE-SEM) analysis showed that PMMA and PVAc form a homogenous blend and that the LaFeO3 NPs were spread out inside and on the blend surface. The samples showed transmittance in the range of 30–74% and a small extinction coefficient (≤ 0.08). The samples exhibited a dual-band gap structure, and the direct (indirect) band gap shrank from 5.1 to 4.7 eV (4.9 to 4.4 eV). The thermal analyses showed that the samples are thermally stable up to 260 °C. The Phy-X/PSD software was used to figure out the theoretical gamma-ray attenuation parameters, such as the mass attenuation coefficient, the mean free path, and the half-value layer, for different PMMA/PVAc + x% LaFeO3 composites. It is demonstrated that the PMMA/PVAc + 10 wt% LaFeO3 sample exhibits much better shielding effectiveness than PMMA/PVAc, and hence it is suitable for protecting against radiation.

The application of perovskite lanthanum ferrite (LaFeO3) as a photocatalyst has shown significant potential in the removal of persistent organic and inorganic contaminants. In the present research, LaFeO3 and various composites consisting of LaFeO3 and TiO2 were prepared. The photocatalytic efficiency of the produced catalysts was assessed by measuring their effectiveness in degrading thiamethoxam, a pesticide belonging to the second generation of neonicotinoids. Experimental investigations were carried out to examine the impact of various factors on the degradation process, including variables like concentration of thiamethoxam, catalyst amount, and pH level. The produced catalysts were characterized by various techniques, including field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS), photoluminescence (PL), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The highest degradation rates were observed when using the synthesized catalyst, 1% LaFeO3/TiO2 (LFTO1), under both UV-C and direct sunlight conditions. This performance outperformed TiO2 and bare LaFeO3. When exposed to ultraviolet (UV-C) radiation at an intensity of 15 W m−2 and under neutral pH conditions, LFTO1 achieved approximately 97% degradation, while under direct sunlight, the LFTO1 photocatalyst exhibited a degradation rate of 79% within a 120-min reaction period. The enhanced activity of LFTO1 could be attributed to its increased surface area, reduced bandgap, and lower electron–hole recombination. The investigation of reaction kinetics showed that the degradation of thiamethoxam followed a pseudo-first-order rate law. Furthermore, LFTO1 can be employed up to 5 times without experiencing any loss in its catalytic activity, thus confirming its long-term utility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of one-step deposition technology for metal oxide-based coatings is significant for the rapid fabrication of gas sensors. Gas sensors based on LaFeO3 were fabricated by solution precursor plasma spraying (SPPS) strategy. Through a comparative analysis of material composition and cross-sectional morphology, we have determined the optimal spray distance (8 cm), ensuring the highest level of thickness uniformity in the coating (17.13 ± 0.34 μm). Furthermore, the influence of the number of passes on coating morphology and gas sensing performance was investigated. The optimal gas sensor possessed a higher response to isoamyl alcohol (236 at 25 ppm) at 250 °C. Meanwhile, excellent selectivity, repeatability, long-term stability (431.6 ± 9.2 at 60 ppm for 20 days), and a low limit of detection (144 ppb) were obtained. The superior low-concentration (< 25 ppm) gas-sensing performance should be ascribed to the loose porous morphology with uniform thickness and the higher surface activity of the optimal coating. Moreover, the practical experiment demonstrated the application potential of the sensors for monitoring wheat mildew. This study synthesizes Ni-doped perovskite-structured LaFeO3 composite materials via a one-step hydrothermal method, characterizes the morphology and structure of the materials, and tests their gas sensing performance. The test results show that compared to pure LaFeO3 material, the gas sensing performance of Ni-doped LaFeO3 material is improved in all aspects. Specifically, LFO-Ni2% exhibits a response as high as 102 towards 100 ppm of triethylamine at 190 °C, along with better selectivity and stability. Furthermore, the gas sensing mechanism is investigated. On one hand, doping with an appropriate proportion of Ni can lead to the formation of more-complete and smaller-sized microsphere structures with pores. This is beneficial for the adsorption of oxygen from the air onto the material surface, as well as for the diffusion of the target gas to the surface of the material, thereby enhancing gas sensitivity performance. On the other hand, the doped Ni enters the interior of the LaFeO3 crystal, replacing some of the cations in LaFeO3, increasing the concentration of charge carriers in the material, and reducing the material's resistance. The sample can adsorb more oxygen, promoting the reaction between adsorbed oxygen and the target gas, and thereby improving the gas sensitivity performance of the sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We synthesized pure and doped gadolinium, samarium, and chromium LaFeO3 denoted as LFO, LFCO, LGFCO, and LSFCO, respectively, employing a straightforward, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solid-state method. The resulting samples were characterized through powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV–Visible absorption measurements. The PXRD findings affirmed that the phase structures corresponding to LFO, LFCO, LGFCO, and LSFCO manifested at an identical calcination temperature of 1200 °C, adopting orthorhombic systems. The calculated crystallite size for each sample, employing Debye-Scherrer's equation, ranged from 25 to 37 nm, with LGFCO and LSFCO exhibiting an augmented crystallite size. This enhancement can be attributed to the integration of dopants into the LaFeO3 lattice, facilitating crystallite growth. SEM images portrayed microstructure composed of fine particle sizes and pseudo-spherical morphology, and the stoichiometry of La, Fe, and O in LFO was confirmed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Reduction in the band gap was ascribed to the doping effect, with LGFCO exhibiting the lowest band gap value. Notably, this ceramic material demonstrated the highest photocatalytic activity for methylene blue degradation under sunlight radiation, surpassing the performance of the other examined samples. Fe 2 O 3 is usually supported by inert materials to improve the sintering resistance and redox stability in chemical looping hydrogen generation (CLHG). It is reasonable to apply inert together with perovskite as a composite support for Fe-based oxygen carrier in CLHG. In this work, the Fe 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 /LaFeO 3 ternary oxygen carriers were synthesized, and the synergistic effects of ZrO 2 and LaFeO 3 on the reactivity and redox stability and the intrinsic mechanisms were investigated. The results showed that the 3LF (the mass ratio of LaFeO 3 and ZrO 2 was 30:10 with Fe 2 O 3 loading at 60 wt %) demonstrated the best hydrogen generation performance with an average H 2 yield of 8.3 mmol g-1 and H 2 purity of over 99.5%. The LaFeO 3 reacted with ZrO 2 to form pyrochlore La 2 Zr 2 O 7 with high melting point, which could be beneficial to the sintering resistance, though it led to the decline of the LaFeO 3 quantity. All the cycled samples exhibited a core-shell structure in view of Fe element distribution, owing to the outward migration of Fe cations. The ternary Fe-based oxygen carrier 3LF displayed the most desirable performance in hindering the Fe migration, resulting in enhanced sintering resistance. Furthermore, the high oxygen vacancy concentration in the 3LF facilitated the lattice oxygen transport and hence promoted the reactivity and redox stability in CLHG. • Fe 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 /LaFeO 3 ternary oxygen carriers were synthesized for CLHG. • 3LF demonstrated the highest reactivity and satisfactory redox stability. • La 2 Zr 2 O 7 with high melting point was beneficial to the sintering resistance. • 3LF inhibited outward migration of Fe cations and thus enhanced sintering resistance. • High oxygen vacancy concentration in 3LF facilitated the lattice oxygen transport. Commercially available LaFeO3 powder was processed using the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. The results of the dielectric measurement showed high permittivity, but this was strongly frequency-dependent and was also accompanied by a high loss tangent. The chemical purity of the powder and changes induced by the SPS process influenced the stability of the dielectric parameters of the bulk compacts. A microstructure with a homogeneous grain size and a certain porosity was produced. The microhardness of the sintered LaFeO3 was rather high, about 8.3 GPa. All the results are in reasonable agreement with the literature related to the production of LaFeO3 using different techniques. At frequencies as low as 100 Hz, the material behaved like a colossal permittivity ceramic, but this character was lost with the increasing frequency. Nano crystalline samples of LaFeO3 (LFO) and La0.9Sm0.1Fe0.9Ni0.1O3 have been successfully synthesized through the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction patterns confirm the orthorhombic phase of standard LaFeO3. FTIR spectroscopy shows the existence of two active vibrational modes around 410 and 550 cm−1. Specific heat capacity (Cp) displays exothermic and endothermic peaks, related to evaporation of water vapor and phase transitions respectively. The Cp is seen to rise in the doped sample, which ensures its increased thermal stability. Magnetic studies reveal the increase in magnetization and the transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic state in doped sample. Magnetoelectric study confirmed the multiferroic nature of LFO. Aiming to improve the photocatalytic properties of transition metal perovskites to be used as robust photoanodes, [LaFeO3]1−x/[SrTiO3]x nanocomposites (LFO1−x/STOx) are considered. This hybrid structure combines good semiconducting properties and an interesting intrinsic remanent polarization. All the studied samples were fabricated using a solid-state method followed by high-energy ball milling, and they were subsequently deposited by spray coating. The synthesized compounds were demonstrated to possess orthorhombic (Pnma) and cubic (Pm 3 ¯ m) structures for LFO and STO, respectively, with an average grain size of 55–70 nm. The LFO1−x/STOx nanocomposites appeared to exhibit high visible light absorption, corresponding to band gaps of 2.17–3.21 eV. Our findings show that LFO0.5/STO0.5 is the optimized heterostructure; it achieved a high photocurrent density of 11 μA/cm2 at 1.23 V bias vs. RHE and an applied bias photo-to-current efficiency of 4.1 × 10−3% at 0.76 V vs. RHE, as demonstrated by the photoelectrochemical measurements. These results underline the role of the two phases intermixing LFO and STO at the appropriate content to yield a high-performing photoanode ascribed to efficient charge separation and transfer. This suggests that LFO0.5/STO0.5 could be a potential candidate for the development of efficient photoanodes for hydrogen generation via photoelectrocatalytic water splitting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the graphene-loaded LaFe1-xCuxO3 nanocomposites (GE/LaFe1-xCuxO3) were prepared by the two-step method. The structure and properties of the samples were represented by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV–Vis DRS, respectively. The results showed that the GE/LaFe1-xCuxO3 photocatalysts were prepared successfully, and the LaFe0.7Cu0.3O3 particles were effectively decorated on the surface of GE. The UV–Vis DRS test showed the graphene and Cu2+ co-doping modified LaFeO3 photocatalyst had a high absorbance in the whole visible light range (380–780 nm) and the bandgap width of the co-doping materials reduced significantly. The photocatalytic test showed the methylene blue (MB) degradation rate of 3% GE/LaFe0.7Cu0.3O3 under sunlight was 100% within 4 h, which was an increase of 75.4% than that of LaFeO3. The kinetic rate constant of 3% GE/LaFe0.7Cu0.3O3 is 1.07 h−1, which is 5.69 times and 1.97 times higher than that of LaFeO3 and LaFe0.7Cu0.3O3. The synergistic effect of Cu2+ and GE on LaFeO3 promotes the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, thereby greatly improving the photocatalytic activity of LaFeO3. The electrocatalytic N 2 reduction reaction (NRR) under ambient conditions is a green and sustainable method for ammonia (NH 3) synthesis, and the development of efficient electrocatalysts for NRR is a top priority. In recent years, LaFeO 3 has been widely used in the field of catalysis because of its high stability, low cost, and green advantages. Through strategies such as heteroatom doping and carbon loading, we can effectively increase the content of oxygen vacancies and improve the electrical conductivity of the material to produce composites with unique electronic structures and excellent catalytic properties. In the present work, we prepared single-atom doped LaFeO 3 /activated porous carbon composites (LFC/AC) for electrocatalytic NRR. The NH 3 yield and Faraday efficiency of LFC/AC were the highest at 23.876 μg h−1 mg−1 and 6.53% in 0.1 M Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte solution, both of which were higher than those of LFC. A series of characterizations and tests have shown that LFC/AC has excellent stability, electrical conductivity, and electrocatalytic properties. The density flooding theory (DFT) simulations were performed to explore the main mechanisms to improve the NRR performance of the materials. • Porous carbon is the LFC/AC with higher specific surface area. • The introduction of Cu atoms brings more oxygen vacancies to promote the NRR reaction. • The loose and porous structure is more conducive to the adsorption of N 2. The development of a rapid, highly sensitive, and dependable acetone sensor holds significant importance for human health and safety. To enhance the acetone sensing performance of LaFeO3 nanoparticles for practical applications, commercial n-type WO3 nanoparticles were incorporated as additives. They were directly mixed with LaFeO3 nanoparticles produced through a sol-gel method, creating a series of WO3-LFO nanocomposites with varying mass ratios. These nanocomposites were characterized using XRD, SEM, BET, and XPS techniques. Compared to pure LFO nanoparticles, the prepared nanocomposites exhibited larger specific surface areas with enhanced surface reactivity. The introduction of p-n heterojunctions through the mixing process improved the regulation of acetone molecules on internal carrier conduction within nanocomposites. As a result, the nanocomposites demonstrated superior acetone sensing performance in terms of optimal operating temperature, vapor response value, selectivity, and response/recovery speed. Notably, the nanocomposites with a 5wt% addition of WO3 showed the lowest optimal operating temperature (132 °C), the fastest response/recovery speed (28/9 s), and the highest selectivity against ethanol, methanol, and EG. On the other hand, the nanocomposites with a 10wt% addition of WO3 displayed the maximum vapor response value (55.1 to 100 ppm) at an optimal operating temperature of 138 °C, along with relatively good repeatability, stability, and selectivity. This study synthesizes Ni-doped perovskite-structured LaFeO3 composite materials via a one-step hydrothermal method, characterizes the morphology and structure of the materials, and tests their gas sensing performance. The test results show that compared to pure LaFeO3 material, the gas sensing performance of Ni-doped LaFeO3 material is improved in all aspects. Specifically, LFO-Ni2% exhibits a response as high as 102 towards 100 ppm of triethylamine at 190 °C, along with better selectivity and stability. Furthermore, the gas sensing mechanism is investigated. On one hand, doping with an appropriate proportion of Ni can lead to the formation of more-complete and smaller-sized microsphere structures with pores. This is beneficial for the adsorption of oxygen from the air onto the material surface, as well as for the diffusion of the target gas to the surface of the material, thereby enhancing gas sensitivity performance. On the other hand, the doped Ni enters the interior of the LaFeO3 crystal, replacing some of the cations in LaFeO3, increasing the concentration of charge carriers in the material, and reducing the material’s resistance. The sample can adsorb more oxygen, promoting the reaction between adsorbed oxygen and the target gas, and thereby improving the gas sensitivity performance of the sample.

Porous LaFeO3 powders were produced by high-temperature calcination of LaFeO3 precursors obtained by hydrothermal treatment of corresponding nitrates in the presence of citric acid. Four LaFeO3 powders calcinated at different temperatures were mixed with appropriate amounts of kaolinite, carboxymethyl cellulose, glycerol and active carbon for the preparation of monolithic LaFeO3 by extrusion. Porous LaFeO3 powders were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen absorption/desorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Among the four monolithic LaFeO3 catalysts, the catalyst calcinated at 700 °C showed the best catalytic activity for the catalytic oxidation of toluene at 36,000 mL/(g∙h), and the corresponding T10%, T50% and T90% was 76 °C, 253 °C and 420 °C, respectively. The catalytic performance is attributed to the larger specific surface area (23.41 m2/g), higher surface adsorption of oxygen concentration and larger Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio associated with LaFeO3 calcined at 700 °C. Hollow LaFeO3 (LFO) spheres was prepared for the first time by surfactant-assisted hydrothermal method. The sample was characterized in detail, suggesting the successful synthesis of LFO which was consisting of hollow core and porous shell. The large specific surface area, accessible pores, and low band gap energy suggests its high photocatalytic performance towards adsorption and photo-Fenton degradation of Ibuprofen under visible light irradiation. Ibuprofen (IBP), which has been widely used as one of anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment of several diseases was selected as a pharmaceutical model. It was found that the hollow LFO spheres induced a significant improvement in the visible-light-Fenton catalytic performance, as compared with pure LFO. The degradation rate using hollow LFO under optimal conditions (temperature = 25 °C, IBP concentration = 10 mg L−1, catalyst dosage = 1.0 g L−1, initial H2O2 concentration = 0.2 g L−1 and initial solution pH = 5) was 96.2% after 90-min exposure to the visible light. This was 27.6% greater than that of pure LFO. Particularly, the pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant for hollow LFO was 0.0419 min−1, which was approximately 3 times higher than that for pure LFO (0.0159 min−1). The acetone gas sensor is one type of sensor being researched for its application because it detects the presence of diabetes in sufferers. Gas sensors with high sensitivity and low operating temperature have been extensively investigated for this purpose, and this research is focused on the same purpose. Synthetization and characterization of LaFeO3 with co-doping Gd2O3 and CoO thick film ceramics for acetone gas sensor was conducted. LaFeO3 was made using the co-precipitation method with 2.5% CoO for each and 0%, 2.5%, and 5% Gd2O3 variation to the LaFeO3. The LaFeO3 thick film was prepared using the screen-printing technique and calcined at 800°C for two hours. The analysis of crystal structure characterization using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) resulted in LaFeO3 with co-doping Gd2O3 and CoO thick film ceramics having the same cubic crystal phase with smaller lattice parameters and crystallite sizes after doping were added. The results of morphology structure characterization using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed the grain size of the LaFeO3 with co-doping 2.5% CoO and 0%, 2.5%, and 5% Gd2O3 samples to support the analysis of electric property characterization later on. The electric property characterization showed that LaFeO3 with various Gd2O3 concentrations, as part of co-doping with 2.5% CoO, resulted in higher sensitivity compared to the lacking of Gd2O3 one. In order, the maximum sensitivity values of each Gd2O3 concentration are 2.74, 3.06, and 8.76 when exposed to 270 ppm acetone gas at 310°C. Gd2O3, as part of co-doping in LaFeO3 with CoO 2.5%, has successfully increased the sensitivity to the gas sensor yet still can not meet the expectation towards the operating temperature, which is still high compared to other references.

LaFexNi1−xO3 perovskite oxides were prepared by the sol–gel method under various conditions, including different pH values (pH 0 and pH 7) and different calcination temperatures (500–800 °C) as well as different Fe/Ni ratios (1/9, 3/7, 5/5, 7/3, 9/1). The samples were examined by XRD, DRS, BET, and SEM to reveal their crystallinity, light-absorption ability, specific surface area, and surface features, respectively. The photocatalytic Fenton reaction was conducted using various LaFexNi1−xO3 perovskite oxides to decompose the methylene blue molecules. Accordingly, the synthesis condition of pH 0, calcination temperature at 700 °C, and Fe/Ni ratio = 7/3 could form LaFe0.7Ni0.3O3 perovskite oxides as highly efficient photocatalysts. Moreover, various conditions during the photocatalytic degradation were verified, such as pH value, catalyst dosage, and the additional amount of H2O2. LaFe0.7Ni0.3O3 perovskite oxides could operate efficiently under pH 3.5, catalyst dosage of 50 mg/150 mL, and H2O2 concentration of 133 ppm to decompose the MB dye in the 1st order kinetic rate constant of 0.0506 s−1.

Reversible solid oxide cells (RSOCs) are prone to material thermal property mismatching problems between electrodes and electrolyte, which greatly reduces their energy efficiency and causes irreversible performance degradation. One solution is to develop symmetrical RSOCs (SRSOCs) employing identical electrode materials to effectively address thermal property mismatching related issues and also simplify the manufacturing process. Herein, La 1-x Sr x FeO 3-δ (x = 0–0.20) perovskites are developed and applied as both fuel and air electrode materials for SRSOCs for the first time. The impact of Sr substitution for La on the crystal structures, conductivities and electrochemical performance of LaFeO 3 oxides is systematically investigated. It is found, after doping with Sr, overall properties of the LaFeO 3 oxides show an obvious improvement, especially for the sample of La 0·9 Sr 0·1 FeO 3-δ (LSF9010). The peak power density of SRSOCs featuring LSF9010 can stand at 0.575 W cm−2 at 800 °C under the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) working model. Under solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) model, the current density stands at 0.84 A cm−2 at 800 °C and 1.5 V. More importantly, the La 0·9 Sr 0·1 FeO 3-δ symmetrical cell can operate steadily for 128 h under SOFC mode and 25 h under SOFC-SOEC cycle mode, respectively, with almost no performance degradation found. The outcomes of the current study show that the developed LSF9010 may be used as an outstanding multifunctional electrode material in SRSOCs. • Sr doping LaFeO 3 perovskites firstly applied as both electrode materials in SRSOCs. • P max and electrolysis current density at 1.5 V of SRSOC with LSF9010 reaches 0.575 W cm−2 and -0.84 A cm−2, respectively. • SRSOC with LSF9010 shows superior long-term stability under both SOFC and reversible operating modes. Alcohols detection is essential for the health of chemical and food production personnel. Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors are widely used, however, sensitive and selectivity of traditional MOS gas sensor is still a bottleneck issue. Recently, ABO3 perovskite-type MOS has attracted much attention due to its abundant and controllable physicochemical properties. In this article, macroporous perovskite-type LaFeO3 (LFO) microspheres were prepared by simple one step hydrothermal process. The gas sensing test results show that the LFO gas sensor is highly sensitive and selective to alcohols, especially methanol. For 100 ppm methanol, the response value can reach 120 at 215 °C. The excellent gas sensing properties are attributed to the macroporous characteristics (>100 nm), which facilitates the diffusion of methanol molecules inside the nanospheres, enhancing the contact between the gas molecules and the material and improving the gas sensing performance. In addition, the adsorption characteristics and electron exchange processes of eight gases on the material surface were investigated based on first principles analysis. The results show that the hydroxyl group is the main contributor to the stable adsorption of alcohols gas on the material surface. Finite size effects in partial pair distribution functions generate artefacts in the scattering structure factor and scattering intensity. It is shown how they can be overcome using a binned version of the Debye scattering equation. Accordingly, reverse Monte Carlo simulations are used for very small nanoparticles of LaFeO3 with diameters below 10 nm to simultaneously analyse X‐ray scattering data and extended X‐ray absorption fine structure spectra at the La K and Fe K edges. Commercially available LaFeO3 powder was processed using the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. The results of the dielectric measurement showed high permittivity, but this was strongly frequency-dependent and was also accompanied by a high loss tangent. The chemical purity of the powder and changes induced by the SPS process influenced the stability of the dielectric parameters of the bulk compacts. A microstructure with a homogeneous grain size and a certain porosity was produced. The microhardness of the sintered LaFeO3 was rather high, about 8.3 GPa. All the results are in reasonable agreement with the literature related to the production of LaFeO3 using different techniques. At frequencies as low as 100 Hz, the material behaved like a colossal permittivity ceramic, but this character was lost with the increasing frequency. On the other hand, it exhibited persistent DC photoconductivity after illumination with a standard bulb.

[Display omitted] For photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, constructing heterojunctions and loading co-catalysts are effective means to realizing sufficient light absorption, effective photogenerated carrier separation and fast charge transport. However, during implementation, the PEC performance of the catalyst is affected by both parasitic light absorption and reflection and the change in energy band structure due to the creation of new interfaces. Herein, in order to minimize the effect of recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs on the catalyst PEC performance due to the nascent interface arising from the co-catalyst compounding, WO 3 and Ni/Co co-doped LaFeO 3 (LFO) are constructed as heterojunctions, in which NiCo-LFO acts both as a part of the heterojunction to enhance photogenerated carrier separation and a co-catalyst to enhance the conductivity and modulate the surface state density at the catalyst-electrolyte interface. The current density of NiCo-LFO/WO 3 reaches 3.92 mA cm−2, which is more than 7 times that of LFO/WO 3. This work provides a reference for the efficient water splitting of B-site doped, especially the co-doped perovskite oxide as multifunctional roles integrated with conventional photoelectrodes. Narrow-band-gap LaFeO 3 (approximately 2.1 eV) has good thermal stability, and applications for light-driven water splitting. Thus, heterojunction catalyst containing LaFeO 3 and Au nanoparticles (NPs) are investigated for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. The use of a citric acid or KOH modifier and calcination yields different LaFeO 3 particle morphologies and phases (La(OH) 3 alone or La(OH) 3 and La 2 O 3 , respectively), which affect the Au NPs coverage ratio. In addition, the formation of a heterojunction, the surface-plasma resonances (SPRs) effect, and the unique nanospikes on the Au NPs, red-shift happens in the light wavelength and reduce the photonic extinction to less than 2.1 eV. Further, in ethanol and l-butanol under AM 1.5G irradiation, more hydrogen is generated in the former than the latter at all tested temperatures. In addition, the activation energy for the formation of hydrogen is lower in ethanol than in 1-butanol. Finally, an amorphous structure is beneficial for photocatalysis. The total process involves (1) light absorbance, (2) electron-hole pair separation, (3) charge transfer via the SPRs effect, and (4) redox reactions on the catalyst surface in the following diagram. Perovskite LaFeO 3 is considered as a promising new anode material for nickel/metal hydride batteries due to its low cost, environmental friendliness and high temperature resistance. However, the poor conductivity of LaFeO 3 material restricts the discharge ability, which is problematic for its future widespread application. To solve the above issue, in this study, we prepared C/Ni-coated LaFeO 3 composite in view of the excellent electrical conductivity of carbon and nickel metal. Results show that the C/Ni-coated LaFeO 3 composite delivers remarkably increased discharge capacity of ∼345 mAh g−1 at 60 ​°C in contrast to ∼267 mAh g−1 for pure LaFeO 3. Furthermore, the carbon and nickel not only increase the electrical conductivity of the LaFeO 3 but also reduces the agglomeration of the LaFeO 3 , therefore, the C/Ni-coated LaFeO 3 composite serves superior long cycle-life, which maintains 60.9% after 100 cycles (52.9% for the LaFeO 3 sample). In overall, the electrochemical behavior of the C/Ni-coated LaFeO 3 composite confirms its high potential as nickel/metal hydride batteries for energy storage applications. Lanthanum (La) nanocomposites LaFeO3, LaNiO3, and LaCoO3 were synthesized using a sol-gel method, and different La to-metal (Fe, Ni, or Co) ratios were attained using various concentrations of salts. The resulting composites were calcined at 540 °C and characterized by XRD, SEM-EDX, FT-IR spectroscopy, XPS, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and PL spectroscopy. The activity of the lanthanum composites (LaFeO3, LaNiO3, and LaCoO3) was studied using the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) and ortho-toluidine blue (o-TB) under visible light with a wavelength below 420 nm. The change in the concentration of dyes was monitored by using the UV-Vis spectroscopy technique. All composites appeared to have some degree of photocatalytic activity, with composites possessing an orthorhombic crystal structure having higher photocatalytic activity. LaFeO 3 is a type II multiferroic material which exhibits improper ferroelectricity induced by magnetic order (antiferromagnetism). However, the antiferromagnetic order limits its applications. This study demonstrates the induction of ferromagnetism in LaFeO 3 by doping with cobalt, varying the level of cobalt from 0 to 0.5 mol. Moreover, the effects of cobalt on the crystal structure, magnetic and dielectric properties are described. The XRD results show that at doping concentrations lower than 0.3 mol, LaFeO 3 maintains its orthorhombic structure (Pnma), while at higher cobalt concentrations the rhombohedral (R-3c) LaCoO 3 phase emerges. In addition, cobalt doping induces ferromagnetism because cobalt occupies iron positions until the solubility limit is reached (0.3 mol). All samples present high relative permittivity values, which increase with increasing cobalt content and temperature. Furthermore, the presence of cobalt results in a decrease in the dielectric dissipation factor for cobalt contents lower than 0.3 mol, due to the inhibition in the formation of vacancies. However, the presence of LaCoO 3 at high cobalt contents increases the dielectric losses due to the presence of a mixtures of phases. Moreover, the electric polarization curves exhibited weak ferroelectric behavior for ferrites with cobalt contents lower than 0.3 mol, and lossy improper ferroelectric type behavior for samples with higher contents. • High-energy ball milling enables the synthesis of pure cobalt-doped lanthanum ferrite. • Cobalt causes structural distortions that are quantified. • Structural distortion promotes double exchange magnetic interactions. • Cobalt induces ferromagnetism at room temperature in lanthanum ferrite. • Internal defects increase relative permittivity with low dielectric losses. LaFeO 3 /MgFe 2 O 4 heterojunctions were prepared via the sol-gel route to enhance solar-light induced photo-persulfate degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). LaFeO 3 /MgFe 2 O 4 exhibited the better removal efficiency of TCH in comparison to LaFeO 3 and MgFe 2 O 4. The photo-persulfate activity of LaFeO 3 /MgFe 2 O 4 was intensively affected by LaFeO 3 content, pH, and inorganic salts. Under the optimal conditions, 2-LaFeO 3 /MgFe 2 O 4 with a nominal LaFeO 3 content of 10 wt % presented the removal efficiency of 97.01 %, while declined to 85.40 % after ninth-cycle test. The lattice defects formed in LaFeO 3 and MgFe 2 O 4 acted as the active sites for TCH adsorption and photon capture. The oxygen-defected tight interface between LaFeO 3 and MgFe 2 O 4 was favorable for the separation and migration of photo-induce e-/h+ pairs, boosting solar-light response for photo-persulfate activity of LaFeO 3 /MgFe 2 O 4. However, the long-term photo-corrosion inevitably induced to the change in valance states of surface compositions, weakening the photo-persulfate performance in TCH elimination. Humidity sensors are omnipresent. Thus, significant efforts have been undertaken to advance their performance, for example, to have a fast detection time, negligible hysteresis, and excellent stability. Despite numerous active research endeavors, establishing a sensor that excels in all these key performances is still challenging. Here, we address this challenge by designing a capacitive-based humidity sensor employing porous LaFeO 3 perovskite. Integrating Ti into the perovskite using a sol-gel method, i.e. , LaFe 0. 925 Ti 0. 075 O 3 , results in a 400% increase in specific surface area achieved through pore formation, translating to a 2094% response parameter. Furthermore, due to the rapid equilibrium between adsorption and desorption processes, the sensor achieves ultrafast 4.4 s response time and 1.4 s recovery time, with <1% hysteresis and excellent stability over 28 days, when assessed at 300 K. Our work significantly advances current humidity sensor performance and, in a broader context, emphasizes the efficacy of porous (perovskite) materials for high performance gas detection. Aiming to improve the photocatalytic properties of transition metal perovskites to be used as robust photoanodes, [LaFeO3]1−x/[SrTiO3]x nanocomposites (LFO1−x/STOx) are considered. This hybrid structure combines good semiconducting properties and an interesting intrinsic remanent polarization. All the studied samples were fabricated using a solid-state method followed by high-energy ball milling, and they were subsequently deposited by spray coating. The synthesized compounds were demonstrated to possess orthorhombic (Pnma) and cubic (Pm3¯m) structures for LFO and STO, respectively, with an average grain size of 55–70 nm. The LFO1−x/STOx nanocomposites appeared to exhibit high visible light absorption, corresponding to band gaps of 2.17–3.21 eV. Our findings show that LFO0.5/STO0.5 is the optimized heterostructure; it achieved a high photocurrent density of 11 μA/cm2 at 1.23 V bias vs. RHE and an applied bias photo-to-current efficiency of 4.1 × 10−3% at 0.76 V vs. RHE, as demonstrated by the photoelectrochemical measurements. These results underline the role of the two phases intermixing LFO and STO at the appropriate content to yield a high-performing photoanode ascribed to efficient charge separation and transfer. This suggests that LFO0.5/STO0.5 could be a potential candidate for the development of efficient photoanodes for hydrogen generation via photoelectrocatalytic water splitting.

The development of a rapid, highly sensitive, and dependable acetone sensor holds significant importance for human health and safety. To enhance the acetone sensing performance of LaFeO3 nanoparticles for practical applications, commercial n-type WO3 nanoparticles were incorporated as additives. They were directly mixed with LaFeO3 nanoparticles produced through a sol-gel method, creating a series of WO3-LFO nanocomposites with varying mass ratios. These nanocomposites were characterized using XRD, SEM, BET, and XPS techniques. Compared to pure LFO nanoparticles, the prepared nanocomposites exhibited larger specific surface areas with enhanced surface reactivity. The introduction of p-n heterojunctions through the mixing process improved the regulation of acetone molecules on internal carrier conduction within nanocomposites. As a result, the nanocomposites demonstrated superior acetone sensing performance in terms of optimal operating temperature, vapor response value, selectivity, and response/recovery speed. Notably, the nanocomposites with a 5wt% addition of WO3 showed the lowest optimal operating temperature (132 °C), the fastest response/recovery speed (28/9 s), and the highest selectivity against ethanol, methanol, and EG. On the other hand, the nanocomposites with a 10wt% addition of WO3 displayed the maximum vapor response value (55.1 to 100 ppm) at an optimal operating temperature of 138 °C, along with relatively good repeatability, stability, and selectivity.

Using n-type and p-type semiconductor materials to construct p–n heterostructures has proven effective for improving gas-sensing properties. In this study, we synthesized the nanocomposites of SnO2 derived from a metal–organic framework (MOF) and LaFeO3 by loading atomic silver on its surface. The response value (Ra/Rg) of the nanocomposites to 10 ppm formaldehyde reached 498 at 140 °C, but they showed almost no response to 50 ppm interference volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the response–recovery time was 105 and 27 s, respectively. The crystal structure, heterojunction structure, chemical elements, and sensitive mechanism were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetry (TG), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) elemental mapping. The characterizations revealed that the improvement of gas sensitivity was mainly due to the MOF-driven strategy, p–n heterojunction, and electron sensitization effect of Ag. An advanced materials solution utilizing the concept of "smart catalysts" could be a game changer for today's automotive emission control technology, enabling the efficient use of precious metals via their two-way switching between metallic nanoparticle forms and ionic states in the host perovskite lattice as a result of the cyclical oxidizing/reducing atmospheres. However, direct evidence for such processes remains scarce; therefore, the underlying mechanism has been an unsettled debate. Here, we use advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy to reveal the atomic-scale behaviors for a LaFe 0.95 Pd 0.05 O 3 -supported Ir-Pd-Ru nanocatalyst under fluctuating redox conditions, thereby proving the reversible dissolution/exsolution for Ir and Ru but with a limited occurrence for Pd. Despite such selective dissolution during oxidation, all three elements remain cooperatively alloyed in the subsequent reduction, which is a key factor in preserving the catalytic activity of the ternary nanoalloy while displaying its self-regenerating functionality and control of particle agglomeration.

This experimentation focuses on an inner transition metal oxide-based nanostructure LaFeO3 which was fabricated by a hydrothermal route for photocatalytic degradation of dye under visible light irradiation. The fabricated nanostructure was characterized by various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), which depicts the crystalline nature and size of the synthesize nanostructure which is 45 nm; Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), which determined the overall morphology of the nanocomposite; and energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) analysis, which established the presence of La, O, and Fe in the sample. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was checked for the decolorization of malachite green (MG) dye. It was observed that the nanostructure showed maximum response with more than 80% degradation of MG in 80 min.
