The MINTspace, opened in 2024, is a new place for experimentation and learning at the central library of Kiel university. Equipment includes 3D printers, microscopes, AR glasses, a soldering unit and other experimental essentials to offer a variety of access paths to technical knowledge for all library users. Tailored to the needs of students of STEM subjects, it is also open to target groups beyond these disciplines. The MINTspace has become one of the core elements of the overall concept at the heart of an ongoing general remodelling of the central library to be completed by 2025. It was conceived, developed and set up in a big space formerly used for group work, in joint collaboration between staff of the Department for Learning and Teaching (physics and chemistry branch), sections of the university library and the technical building management at Kiel university.
